Transcript
00:00Welcome along to your national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03More showers to come on Friday.
00:05We've seen some pretty lively downpours again on Thursday.
00:08A Met Office yellow warning remains
00:10in place across parts of Wales, the Midlands,
00:12and southwest England.
00:14The slow-moving heavy downpours will
00:16continue through the evening and, if anything,
00:19spread a little further north.
00:20So the potential for more heavy rain
00:22to come over parts of the Midlands and northeast England
00:25through the early hours.
00:26Elsewhere, the showers do tend to fade.
00:29Many places become dry in temperatures,
00:31mostly holding up with a lot of cloud
00:33around at 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
00:37Onto Friday.
00:38It's another pretty messy day.
00:40We're going to start with cloud and rain over northeast England.
00:43And that'll spread into parts of northeast Scotland
00:45and up across the Northern Isles.
00:46And then elsewhere, well, although it may well,
00:49by and large, be a dry start to Friday,
00:51certainly by mid-morning, heavy showers
00:54are going to be breaking out once more.
00:56Subtle difference on Friday.
00:58It's a bit more of a breeze.
00:59The showers won't be quite as slow-moving.
01:00But again, they could be heavy and thundery,
01:03may cause some disruption, certainly a lot of spray
01:05and surface water on the roads, particularly
01:07over parts of eastern England and northeast Scotland
01:09by the afternoon.
01:10Further west, the showers do tend to fade away.
01:13So things looking a bit drier come the afternoon
01:15for Wales, southwest England, western parts of Scotland,
01:18and at least for a time across Northern Ireland.
01:20But no, another band of rain is approaching here.
01:24Temperature-wise, well, again, we're
01:26around about or even a touch below average
01:29for the time of year, the 1st of July,
01:30only high teens in many places.
01:33A little bit warmer compared to Thursday
01:35across the south and the east.
01:36We might squeak up to 23 Celsius across the southeast
01:39with some decent spells of sunshine.
01:41But there is a bit more of a breeze blowing,
01:43which, as I say, does mean the showers
01:45will tend to move through.
01:46But that rain in the northwest spreading into Northern Ireland
01:49from this weather front will truck across the country
01:52during Saturday.
01:54At the same time, high pressure is trying to build in,
01:57but not really succeeding.
01:59The main theme through Friday night
02:01will be this band of rain coming in, some lively winds,
02:05some gusty winds as that band of rain moves through.
02:07And the rain will be pretty heavy
02:08for a time across Northern Ireland
02:10before spreading across Scotland.
02:11And then this line of rain likely
02:13to work from west to east across England and Wales.
02:16Some uncertainty on the timing.
02:17So if you've got plans for Saturday,
02:18make sure you stay up to date with the forecast.
02:21It doesn't look like it's going to reach East Anglia
02:22in the southeast for most of the day.
02:24So generally here, it's a fine day on Saturday.
02:28And behind it, it will turn a bit brighter
02:30for Wales, southwest England.
02:31But more showers to come over northwest England, Scotland,
02:34and Northern Ireland.
02:35Again, some of them on the heavy side.
02:37So again, temperatures generally a bit disappointing
02:40for the time of year with some sunny spells in the southeast,
02:4222, 23 degrees.
02:44That'll feel fairly pleasant.
02:45But for most of us, we are only at 17 or 18 Celsius.
02:49That weather front does move out of the way
02:51by the time we get to Sunday.
02:53And that high pressure is getting a little bit closer.
02:57But weather front's just toppling around the top of it.
02:59We'll continue to bring more showers on Sunday,
03:02particularly across northern and western areas.
03:04But it does look as if things will
03:06turn a little drier with that high moving in
03:08across the south and southwest as we go into next week.
