00:00Hello, and welcome to our national weather forecast.
00:02For some, it's going to be a very wet and windy Wednesday.
00:06We have Met Office yellow warnings in place.
00:09More on those warnings in just a moment.
00:11First of all, let's get through Tuesday evening
00:13because some pretty heavy downpours are still
00:15across parts of northern England, southern Scotland,
00:18quite a wet evening here.
00:19They're heading out into the North Sea.
00:21A few scattered showers will keep
00:22going around western coasts.
00:24But for many, it becomes dry overnight and clear.
00:27And as the winds ease off a touch in the south,
00:29it will be a bit of a chillier night compared
00:32to recent nights, well down into single figures,
00:35certainly in rural areas.
00:36So a slightly fresher start to Wednesday.
00:38But for many, it'll be a bright start with some sunshine.
00:41Do not get used to that quickly.
00:43Clouds build into northern Ireland here.
00:44We have some very heavy rain.
00:46Look at those colours there, the oranges and the reds.
00:49Some intense downpours working their way in this line,
00:52extending across western Scotland
00:54into northwest England, Wales, and southwest England
00:57come the afternoon.
00:58The winds will also be picking up around this line
01:01of very heavy rain.
01:03Notice eastern parts of England generally
01:05stay dry until quite late on.
01:07And in the northwest, it'll turn a bit brighter
01:09come the afternoon.
01:09But there'll still be some heavy showers.
01:12Now, this line of rain, it won't surprise you to learn,
01:14is a weather front, a very active weather front.
01:17And if we just rewind the clock, it's
01:19tied into this deepening area of low pressure
01:22approaching the UK.
01:23And it's as this weather front moves its way across
01:27through the Irish Sea in particular,
01:28the winds will really start to whip up through the morning
01:31and then have strong winds extending
01:33into parts of northern England during the afternoon.
01:35So we have Met Office warning for the winds in place,
01:38gusts of 55, 60, possibly in exposed areas 65 miles an hour.
01:43It could cause some problems, certainly not great
01:45for high-sided vehicles, but also
01:47likely to cause some travel disruption with ferries,
01:50et cetera.
01:51In addition to that, with that heavy rain and the fact
01:54that we've had recent bouts of heavy rain for northern
01:56Ireland and southern Scotland, we also
01:58have yellow rain warning in place,
02:00a potential for flooding from the rain
02:02that comes during Wednesday.
02:05That rain will be working its way across all of England
02:07and Wales eventually.
02:08But ahead of it in the east, with a bit of brightness,
02:11we could see 15 or 16 Celsius.
02:14It won't feel as mild as these temperatures would suggest,
02:16though, certainly not when the rain comes along
02:18and the winds are blowing hard.
02:21Now, the wet and windy weather will
02:22work across the Midlands through the evening
02:24and then into parts of East Anglia and the southeast.
02:27And actually here, it may well just
02:29linger as we go through Thursday night
02:32and then into Thursday itself.
02:34A dull, damp day for East Anglia and the southeast.
02:37Some uncertainty about how far north the rain returns,
02:40but it could be quite a wet day on Thursday
02:43for that southeastern corner after a largely dry day
02:45on Wednesday.
02:46Elsewhere on Thursday, it will be brighter.
02:48There'll be some sunny spells, but there will still
02:51be showers, particularly for Wales and southwest England.
02:54Quite a few afternoon showers.
02:56The northeastern corner of the UK
02:57looks driest and brightest on Thursday
02:59with some decent spells of sunshine
03:01and not too many showers.
03:03It will be turning a little cooler,
03:04temperatures back closer to average,
03:06but still 11 to 13 or 14 Celsius across the south.
03:10It probably won't be as windy for many on Thursday either,
03:13although still some gusty winds, particularly
03:15as the showers develop across the southwest later on.
03:18Plenty going on with the weather over the next few days.
03:21That weather front lingering across the southeast
03:23into Thursday.
03:24Friday does look dry and bright for most areas,
03:27however, before more rain sets in for the weekend.
03:30More details on those warnings on our app and our website.
