10 September - National forecast by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, I'm Greg Dewhurst and welcome to your latest broadcast from the Met Office.
00:06Over the past week, we've had low pressure in charge of the weather. That has moved away
00:10now and we're looking at a subtle picture initially. However, further low pressure will
00:14bring outbreaks of rain towards the end of the weekend into the beginning of next week,
00:19ahead of then high pressure building towards the middle of the week. So taking a look at
00:24the details for the rest of Saturday, we can see a lot of dry weather across the UK, the
00:30cloud will come and go, sunshine across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern and Western
00:34Scotland in particular, elsewhere bright or sunny spells, the risk of some heavy showers
00:39across eastern England, particularly towards East Anglia, perhaps the odd rumble of thunder
00:44is possible. Temperatures generally around average for the time of year, winds lighter
00:48than yesterday across some eastern areas, making it feel a little bit warmer, highs
00:52around 23 or so. Through into the evening and overnight, any showers will fade away,
00:58we'll see clear spells across many parts of the UK, perhaps an isolated light shower is
01:04possible, but for many it will be dry, some shallow mists and fog patches developing,
01:09perhaps some rain moving into the far tip of Cornwall towards the end of the night.
01:13And temperatures a little bit fresher, down to low double digits for many in the countryside,
01:19particularly across the north of the UK, 8 or 9 degrees. So a fresh start to Sunday
01:24morning, plenty of sunny spells, a lot of dry weather around, however, thicker cloud
01:29and outbreaks of rain will move in across western parts, particularly West Wales, the
01:34West Country, Northern Ireland seeing some heavier rain too, and the Western Isles. Elsewhere
01:38generally dry with plenty of sunny spells, just an isolated shower possible across the
01:44far east. Winds starting to come in from the south, generally light but picking up across
01:48the west later, lifting temperatures into the low 20s quite widely across the UK, so
01:54above average for the time of year. Looking into next week, temperatures starting on the
01:59warm side, particularly across England and Wales, but a band of rain will start to push
02:03its way southwards, followed by sunshine and showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:08That rain clears south into Tuesday and then everyone will be in fresher air, with a mixture
02:12of sunny spells, but temperatures down a little and highs around 18 to 23 Celsius.
