00:00:00What's up, everyone?
00:00:22This is Noah Dalzell, and I'm here with a Sunday Mealback episode of You Got Boston.
00:00:27And this is the second-to-last Sunday before the Celtics season starts, or at least it
00:00:32starts in my eyes, because we'll see NBA—Celtics Media Day is the 24th, which is just over
00:00:39a week from tomorrow.
00:00:42And yeah, really excited to be able to jump back into things and to be able to jump back
00:00:45into the Celtics season.
00:00:47It feels like this slow period has been going on for months, but really it's just been like
00:00:52two months because we had so much going on after the conclusion of the NBA Finals.
00:00:56From the Celtics, you know, going to the Draft and Vegas Summer League, and then obviously
00:01:02to the Olympics.
00:01:04So for those of you that don't know me, my name is Noah Dalzell, and I am the host of
00:01:08the show, You Got Boston.
00:01:09I also cover the WNBA for SB Nation and cover the Celtics for Celtics Blog and for CLNS
00:01:15Media.
00:01:16And I'm officially on my second year of covering the team.
00:01:18Last year was my first year on the beat, and it was a lot of fun to cover a team that I
00:01:22followed my whole life, winning the championship my first year doing this work.
00:01:27So this is an opportunity to answer questions, so feel free to throw in any questions you
00:01:32might have in the chat.
00:01:33And I have a couple things that I'll share off the top in the meantime.
00:01:38The first thing I wanted to mention was the fact that you probably all have seen there's
00:01:43been a big media tour that Jason Tatum has been on.
00:01:47And Tatum is a new author of a children's book.
00:01:51It's called Baby Dunks A Lot.
00:01:52I have a copy right here that I was lucky to get in the mail.
00:01:56Cute story.
00:01:57It's about a kid who knows how to dunk a baby and basically is inspired by Tatum and Deuce
00:02:04and this idea that Deuce was always around the team.
00:02:06And so this baby is also always around the team, but he's actually on the team.
00:02:10So basically, if you've been online or you've been watching TV or whatever, Tatum has been
00:02:15everywhere.
00:02:16He was on Late Night.
00:02:17He was on Good Morning America, I believe.
00:02:20He's been making the rounds.
00:02:21He did book signings in New York and in Boston.
00:02:25And it's been fun to watch because it's just kind of a cool thing.
00:02:29But I also spoke to his co-author, Sam Appel, and I'm going to have a story on that coming
00:02:33out soon.
00:02:34But for those of you who are curious, the way this came to be is this guy, an author,
00:02:39basically approached Tatum, letting him know that he had this idea for writing a book.
00:02:44He wanted to do a book about basketball, and he figured maybe a baby could be worked into
00:02:47it.
00:02:48And so Tatum and Tatum's team was all excited about it.
00:02:51They met, and they kind of got this idea together.
00:02:55But the thing that he told me that was kind of funny was that Deuce actually was a big
00:02:58part of putting this book together and just kind of influencing pictures and all that
00:03:02and making illustrations.
00:03:03So I'll have a story, kind of the behind the scenes of how that came to be.
00:03:08But in the meantime, yeah, we're a week away from everything kind of getting started.
00:03:13Another thing that happened this week that I just saw, and I obviously wasn't there,
00:03:15but Al Horford received a very high honor in the Dominican Republic, the country that
00:03:21he's from.
00:03:22He's the first ever NBA player to win a championship from the Dominican Republic.
00:03:27So he was awarded a high medal of honor from the president.
00:03:31Joe Mazzullo was there.
00:03:33Assistant coach Tony Dobbins was also there.
00:03:35So that was pretty cool.
00:03:37And then other than that, I mean, we're just starting to see players reentering the practice
00:03:41facility.
00:03:42Lonnie Walker has been posting every single day that he's there.
00:03:45Jalen Brown is officially back in Boston and working out.
00:03:49And a lot of the young guys have been here for a couple of weeks.
00:03:52So it's just a matter of time before the full team is here next week.
00:03:57But yeah, in the meantime, you can kind of see everybody's finishing up their adventure.
00:04:01Sam Houser had his kids.
00:04:02So those are just some of the updates that we're just seeing across the board.
00:04:05But for the most part, yeah, nothing substantially new, but we're still going to do these on
00:04:09the email backs just for any questions that people might have.
00:04:14And I will start with a question about, do you think the Sixers slash Knicks can actually
00:04:20pose a threat to the Celtics?
00:04:21This is a bit of a common discussion point.
00:04:24I think it's just a natural part of the offseason is wondering whether or not particular teams
00:04:30can overthrow the Celtics team and win the championship next year, or at least eliminate
00:04:34the Celtics.
00:04:35And I do think the Sixers and the Knicks are probably two of the teams that are most in
00:04:40the mix right now to be able to actually advance in the East outside of Boston.
00:04:45I would add Milwaukee.
00:04:46I think Milwaukee is being a little underrated just because everything kind of went wrong
00:04:49for them last year.
00:04:50I also do think the Pacers are being underrated.
00:04:52Like Missoula was on locked on Celtics a couple weeks ago or a week ago.
00:04:57And he said the Pacers were the hardest team that they face off against this past playoff.
00:05:01So certainly we saw that as well.
00:05:05And I think that people are kind of forgetting about the Pacers and they're only going to
00:05:08do better.
00:05:09I think it's a young team.
00:05:10That's another one that's in the mix.
00:05:11But specifically to answer your question around the Sixers and Knicks, I think the thing that
00:05:17you have to wonder about is which teams defensively are going to match up with Boston and specifically
00:05:24have guys that can guard one through five and guard, you know, be able to switch.
00:05:29And I do think that New York is better suited for that than Philadelphia at this point.
00:05:34Obviously we haven't seen this New York team come to fruition.
00:05:37I do think Mikael Bridges, like his defense that he's really known for, like there was
00:05:41a little bit of a drop off last year and really since he became a Brooklyn net, but I think
00:05:46that you'll see him be a better defender now that he doesn't, he's not shouldering as much
00:05:50of the offensive load on a Knicks team surrounded by so many other options.
00:05:55So I think the Knicks are their biggest threat.
00:05:58I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks had like a top two seed in the Eastern conference.
00:06:02The Sixers, it just really relies on health in a way that I think is pretty unique.
00:06:07Like you just have a bunch of guys that don't necessarily have the best track record of
00:06:12staying healthy.
00:06:14And you know, Joel Embiid, I think he looked great in the Olympics, but I also just think
00:06:19in general, like he has just dealt with so many neat things and things that just kind
00:06:22of get worse and accumulate and kind of stack up on top of one another.
00:06:27And then you also have the fact that Paul George has had his fair share of things.
00:06:31So the Sixers to me, it's like, you have to have, you have to rely on the health of those
00:06:35two players that have been historically somewhat inconsistent.
00:06:38And then you also have to, you're counting on Tyrese Maxey taking, continuing kind of
00:06:43his prolific play from last season, if not taking another leap.
00:06:47And I really do believe in Tyrese Maxey, so that's why I think that they pose somewhat
00:06:51of a threat.
00:06:52But I guess all that to say is that I think that this team, the Celtics team, like though
00:06:59they are the favorite to repeat next year, like so many things could go wrong, so much
00:07:03could happen.
00:07:04And any one of these teams can also be a huge surprise.
00:07:07Like I don't think people expected the Thunder to go from a play-in team to the number one
00:07:11seed and be like a really good team and be, you know, they had a chance, I think against
00:07:15really anyone last year.
00:07:16But so there might be like a sleeper team too.
00:07:20There's nobody I'm looking at in the East that I'm like, I think I'm going to come out
00:07:22of nowhere.
00:07:23But I just think at this point, like to say anything more confident than the Celtics are
00:07:27my pick out of the East would be somewhat misguided at least.
00:07:32So that is my first answer.
00:07:36Question here from Neil, do you agree with Tatum saying that we will see the Mavericks
00:07:41in the finals next year?
00:07:43So that is a reference to the fact that Tatum was on, was it Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel?
00:07:51I always mix those two up, but I watched the show live and he was asked a couple of questions,
00:07:56including which one of the first question I think he was asked was whether the Knicks
00:07:59were going to be better than they were last year.
00:08:01He said yes.
00:08:02He was also asked who he thinks will win MVP next year.
00:08:06He said, can I say myself?
00:08:09And so he said himself.
00:08:10And then one of the other questions that he was asked was, who do you think will be in
00:08:13the finals next year?
00:08:17And this was just like a natural headline, but he was asked, he said the Celtics and
00:08:21the Mavericks.
00:08:22And I actually don't think he really believes that.
00:08:24I don't think he would have picked the Mavericks, but I don't think, I think it's like kind
00:08:27of like the safe PR answer to have is to say the team that you literally played against
00:08:31last year, because you're not really hyping up any team, you're not really scoring any
00:08:34team.
00:08:35I don't think you want to pick like the Nuggets or the Thunder, just like put that out there.
00:08:40So yeah, so I, I don't agree with him personally.
00:08:43I don't think that it'll be a rematch.
00:08:45I think it's really unusual for two teams to be in the finals and then to both be back
00:08:50in the finals the following year.
00:08:52I don't think that's going to happen.
00:08:54I mean, it's on the table, but I think it will be more likely for the Nuggets or the
00:09:00Thunder to make it out of the West next year.
00:09:03Those are probably my top two teams.
00:09:05Timberwolves would be probably my third, which is weird to say, because the Timberwolves
00:09:10obviously lost to the Mavericks.
00:09:11I just, I don't view the Mavericks as a team that's going to string together multiple finals
00:09:15appearances in a row.
00:09:19So yeah, that's my perspective on it.
00:09:21I'm not, I'm not obviously sure, but I think that he didn't say that because he, I don't
00:09:26think he said that because he believed it.
00:09:27I think he said it because he recognized the fact that it's the right thing to say.
00:09:32You know, you want to say the team that you just faced and that can't be that controversial.
00:09:36You know, if you just picked like a random team, it would have become like a big story.
00:09:39And Tatum Smart, Tatum Smart was not saying, not putting his foot in his mouth and not
00:09:42saying things that could potentially be controversial or things that can end up being, I don't know,
00:09:49a big storyline or whatnot.
00:09:51There was a big story with him, at least a story with him this week.
00:09:54And he did an interview with Bobby Kierbitzky at Sports Illustrated.
00:09:59And in that conversation, he said, Bobby asked him, do you think that you'll make, do you
00:10:04think that you can, will still go after MVP next season?
00:10:08And he basically said, like, why not both?
00:10:10He both winning a championship and winning MVP.
00:10:15And I don't think Tatum will win MVP next year.
00:10:16I don't think he's going to be one of the contenders really, just because I think it's
00:10:19hard to come off of a season that they had where they won the championship, they clearly
00:10:24have so much talent.
00:10:25He wasn't like the final MVP, so he would have to be playing at like a crazy level this
00:10:29year.
00:10:30So, so yeah, so that's my take on the Tatum stuff.
00:10:35I'm really curious.
00:10:36I think I'm the most curious about, I think for early in the year is just seeing how Tatum
00:10:41is going to fare with the shooting struggles, because I feel like that became such a big
00:10:44story during the postseason, shooting 20% from three, and then obviously not, not hitting
00:10:49a jump shot in the Olympics, again, really small sample size, but that became a big thing
00:10:52as well.
00:10:53So I would love to see him come out of the gate and just be shooting well.
00:10:58I think that would be great for his confidence.
00:11:00I think that'd be great for the media, for us not to have this as a storyline to talk
00:11:04about and not to build it up even more.
00:11:06And I just hate watching guys that are good shooters, just go through prolonged stretches
00:11:11and not being able to shoot, because I think that it's just, it's kind of a tough watch.
00:11:14And then also you don't want to start wondering if defenses are going to play him worse or
00:11:18play him differently.
00:11:19Like, you know, you know, I would hate to see him be left open purposefully on as a
00:11:24three point shooter, because he's been shooting 20% all season and last playoffs, and it's
00:11:29getting to the point where teams are trying to pick their poison.
00:11:31So so yeah, that's my perspective on that.
00:11:37Got another question here.
00:11:40Not a selfish question, but do you think that people are letting the Heat fly under the
00:11:43radar?
00:11:44Yeah, definitely.
00:11:45And I'm guilty of it as well, because I just went through a bunch of teams in the East
00:11:48and I didn't even mention them.
00:11:49And I wouldn't be surprised if the Heat are in the conference finals again next season,
00:11:53because history has shown that Jimmy Butler and the Heat, when, you know, when he's available,
00:11:57which he obviously wasn't last year, like they're a conference finals team almost every
00:12:00year.
00:12:01And so I think that he didn't make a big splash at all, really, in free agency via trade.
00:12:08They're really just counting on their young core getting better.
00:12:12And they're counting on guys like Jaime Jaquez, who was a phenomenal rookie, taking kind of
00:12:17an additional leap in their second year.
00:12:19And I think they're mostly counting on health, honestly, like if you watch Pat Riley's postgame
00:12:22presser or postseason presser last year, he talked about, you know, Tyler Hero and
00:12:28guys just not being available and really needing health and availability to be the priority.
00:12:33And it's tough because those kinds of things, it's like, you know, you don't have, you know,
00:12:38you can say that, but if guys are injured or something freaky happens, like you can't
00:12:42control that.
00:12:44So I think the Heat's gonna, it's gonna rely on like a couple guys taking a leap, it's gonna
00:12:48rely on people staying healthy and like Jimmy Butler playing, you know, 70 games and not,
00:12:53you know, less than that.
00:12:54And Tyler Hero being available for most of the year, and, you know, they're gonna need
00:12:57to be operating like at their best, they don't have as much margin of error, as some of the
00:13:01teams that I mentioned, or even the Celtics, like, you know, Celtics can afford, I think
00:13:05for Zynga is missing a big portion of next year.
00:13:08And even so I think they're going to be fine.
00:13:10So yeah, I think with the with the Heat, like, my guess about to guess I think I have them
00:13:17in the fifth or sixth seed next year.
00:13:20I do think they're gonna surprise the people a little bit like I think that people people
00:13:23are just kind of forgotten about them because they were a first round exit.
00:13:26But again, they were first round exit against the team that beat everybody in five games,
00:13:29right.
00:13:30So, like, I was one of the funny things from last year is we had like the Cavs coach, you
00:13:34know, David Bickerstaff was fired after that series.
00:13:35And it wasn't just for that series, but like, ultimately, that team, you know, if they had
00:13:41the same outcome as any other team that played the Celtics, so it wasn't it didn't reflect
00:13:44that poorly on you last year to lose to the Celtics in four or five games, because literally
00:13:48everybody did it.
00:13:49But yeah, I think the Heat if Jerry Butler was available, maybe they would have maybe
00:13:54would have been a longer series.
00:13:56Probably if they have full health, they wouldn't have been the eighth seed and they would have
00:13:59not had to face the Celtics in the first round.
00:14:01So a lot could have gone differently.
00:14:03Missoula likes to talk about how all it takes is a couple plays and, and the outcome can
00:14:08be completely different of a series like he said on lockdown Celtics that he thought the
00:14:12Pacers series should have been a seven game series.
00:14:14And obviously it was a four game sweep, right?
00:14:17So those kinds of things can make a big difference as well.
00:14:23Not a question, but I think this is a good comment from Neil, I feel like the addition
00:14:26of Tom Thompson was by the floor more, I can see the Mavs running it back, but maybe Klay
00:14:30is still rusty.
00:14:31So I do think Klay Thompson is a huge factor, whether the Mavericks are going to be a finals
00:14:36or a championship presenting team again, it was so obvious in the finals that they were
00:14:40lacking a couple of like real scoring threats and a couple of guys that you could, that
00:14:45have been there before that the moment wasn't too big for and the Celtics game plan was
00:14:50they figured out, you know, we're going to let the role player shoot.
00:14:53Like we're, we like our chances with some of these other guys and, and they didn't capitalize.
00:14:59Right.
00:15:00And I think that that could have backfired if one of those guys had gone on a hot shooting
00:15:03stretch.
00:15:04Like I remember when the Celtics played the Thunder during the regular season, like Josh
00:15:07Giddey, all of a sudden it was just like hitting his threes and they lost that game.
00:15:10But I think that the Celtics went back to the drawing board and would have run it back
00:15:14and done the same thing if given the opportunity, because ultimately like Josh Giddey is on
00:15:18a great shooter.
00:15:19And so you got to go with the math.
00:15:20And I think Thompson would have changed the game plan and maybe would have opened things
00:15:24up for other people because now you, you have to respect his jump shot, especially as a
00:15:28catch and shoot player.
00:15:29Like I think with the Warriors at points last year, he was doing a little bit too much.
00:15:33He was kind of looking to be the secondary scoring option.
00:15:36There weren't the threats that Kyrie Irving and Luka are on the floor alongside him.
00:15:43And so, yeah, I think Thompson's going to have a good year next year.
00:15:45I think people are going to be a little bit surprised, but I don't know that he defensively,
00:15:50like I worry about a team that has Kyrie Irving, Luka and Klay Thompson all on the floor at
00:15:56one.
00:15:57So what he adds on offense, like just at this point in his career with the injuries that
00:16:00he suffered and everything like that, like I do see a world where Klay Thompson is not
00:16:07necessarily going to be enough to get this team over the hump.
00:16:10But that being said, like certainly he has the ability to do so.
00:16:14If he's at kind of at the highest capacity that we've seen him be in recent years post
00:16:18injuries.
00:16:19And I'm a big Klay Thompson fan.
00:16:20I know that's kind of an unpopular Boston opinion.
00:16:23I just like his game.
00:16:24And I especially liked his game when he was at his prime, when he was able to score 37
00:16:28points in a quarter, but also guard the opposing team's best player.
00:16:30So we're not going to see that, but I think even a reduced version of that is going to
00:16:34be quite impactful for this team.
00:16:40Question here on the mid-season trade deadline.
00:16:42Do you think Brad makes any moves before the trade deadline, just as a way to potentially
00:16:46ensure the front court and backup guard spot, shore up the front court and backup guard
00:16:51spot?
00:16:52So I think the whole idea with the mid-season trade deadline is that it's an opportunity
00:16:57for the Celtics front office to say, like, where are we at through the first few months
00:17:02of the season?
00:17:04Kind of a midpoint mark.
00:17:05I mean, it's obviously a little bit past the midpoint mark, but thinking about the year
00:17:08as a whole, you know, it's an opportunity to say, this is what we've lacked.
00:17:11This is what we need.
00:17:13Are there guys like flyers that we signed or players that really haven't panned out
00:17:17that maybe it would be better off to send to a lottery team to give them additional
00:17:20minutes like what we saw with Delano Benton and Lamar Stevens last season.
00:17:26And I honestly didn't think they were going to make a move last season because I felt
00:17:28like the team had, you know, kind of all the pieces together and they had a really
00:17:33special group together and you never want to bring in somebody that's going to hurt
00:17:37the locker room in any sense.
00:17:38And that's something that we heard quite a bit about last year was they were really worried
00:17:42about bringing in somebody that was going to take away.
00:17:44And so that was a huge priority and when they traded for James Springer and Xavier Tillman,
00:17:48like part of the fit was the locker room fit and the culture.
00:17:51And I'm sure they talked to lots of people that do those two guys really well to make
00:17:55sure that they wouldn't be bringing anybody in that was harmful that could kind of disrupt
00:17:59what they were doing.
00:18:00I think it's going to be a similar situation this year.
00:18:03You know, if poor Zing is back by then, which he should be, and everybody's playing well
00:18:07and maybe some of the post players off the bench reach kind of their ceiling and everybody's
00:18:15playing their part that maybe you just keep the group together.
00:18:17I mean, this is not a group of a bunch of guys like like last year, they signed some
00:18:20players that were completely new to the organization, you know, between the two that they traded
00:18:24away.
00:18:25There was also shaperset, Zuma Heilig.
00:18:26So there was candidates for guys that were really with just the organization for a few
00:18:30months.
00:18:31And now you're thinking to yourself, like, okay, maybe this experiment didn't really
00:18:34work.
00:18:35Or maybe what we thought we could get out.
00:18:36It's a lot of bands that like, didn't really pan out, but send them off somewhere else.
00:18:39There's not going to be those kinds of players on this year's team, because it's literally
00:18:42all returners, except for maybe Lonnie Walker, or another exhibit, a 10 guy signing for the
00:18:4915 spot.
00:18:50So, so yeah, I don't, I would say like, it's less likely that they make a trade this season
00:18:55because of the fact that they were really intentional and like bringing these guys together.
00:19:00But also, I think the whole plan and the whole idea that Brad Stevens has had is like, every
00:19:04single one of these players has earned this team has earned the right to run it back,
00:19:07like you just won the championship and you did so like, historic, you know, historic
00:19:11fashion.
00:19:12So everybody has had the chance to, to do this.
00:19:16But if they start the year off, and they're struggling, and all of a sudden, like, there's
00:19:19a huge issue in the front court, like Sadie Tillman's not playing well, and Kate is not
00:19:22playing well.
00:19:23And Porzingis needs more time.
00:19:24And like, suddenly, you're looking at this team, and you're thinking to yourself, like,
00:19:28okay, we need to get like a more proven front court guy, like a veteran player that's been
00:19:32many before playoff production, all that, then maybe you do ship out some of the other
00:19:36guys that you can afford to ship out.
00:19:38So I do think the first half of the season is going to be like a trial period.
00:19:41But if I had to guess at this point, I think they're not there, maybe you're going to forego
00:19:45the trade deadline.
00:19:47Though we've seen Brad Stevens like straights, and he likes, he's made some big moves over
00:19:50the last few years.
00:19:54Oh, question here on Nimesh Kheda, do you think that he can have a similar role to Robert
00:19:59Williams?
00:20:02Hmm, that is a tough one.
00:20:07I don't think so.
00:20:08I think that Robert Williams had things about him and his instincts that were honestly very
00:20:13unparalleled.
00:20:15I have not seen many post players with his just features and the things that he was able
00:20:18to do and his timing, his hands and explosiveness.
00:20:24There's obviously a parallel there.
00:20:26And there's a reason why this question was asked.
00:20:28And I've certainly like brought this up before and thought about it before.
00:20:30But to say a similar role to Robert Williams, I think that if you can provide a little bit
00:20:37of what Robert Williams provided, defensively, that would be a huge win.
00:20:42Because Robert Williams was a helped defender that Nimesh Kheda just isn't right now, because
00:20:46he's just from a schematic standpoint, I think that he still lacks a little bit of understanding
00:20:51on that front.
00:20:52So I'm going to say no, I don't think that's what we're going to see next year.
00:20:56I don't think we're going to really see it in his career.
00:20:59Again, Robert Williams didn't really pan out because he was never able to stay healthy
00:21:02and be able to do what he did at a broader level.
00:21:05But it's tough.
00:21:06I'll be curious to watch him for a few games and to see if he gets an extended role.
00:21:11And then we can talk about that one further.
00:21:12I think that would be an interesting deep dive.
00:21:13We're going to hear from our friends over at Game Yard, Game Time real quick, and feel
00:21:20free to continue putting in questions in the chat.
00:21:22I love going to events right now, it's football season, love going to football games, concerts,
00:21:27really any events.
00:21:28Living in Boston, you can just put in any event into the Game Time app, and you can
00:21:33get the best prices guaranteed.
00:21:35Game Time has a new feature called Game Time Picks that makes getting tickets to see your
00:21:38favorite teams play live even easier.
00:21:41Game Time Picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great seats so
00:21:45you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
00:21:49So all you have to do is figure out what it is you want to attend.
00:21:53For example, I'm looking right now to get tickets for my family for opening night for
00:21:57the Celtics.
00:21:58So I can search that game in, browse through the seats on Game Time Picks.
00:22:02I can already see there's lots of great deals, there are super deals, different tiers of
00:22:07deals.
00:22:08And basically, as I'm looking, I'm able to actually see what the actual perspective of
00:22:12the court is from that particular seat.
00:22:14I have to make sure I don't want to get them seats that are in the balcony that are too
00:22:17far away.
00:22:18I can see what the court view is going to look like from those seats.
00:22:21So that way, I'm able to choose that just looking at a seat number, which maybe doesn't
00:22:25mean anything to me.
00:22:26I'm able to see right away that this is a seat that I want to buy for my family members
00:22:30for opening night so that they can see the ring ceremony and the banner raising and all
00:22:34that fun stuff.
00:22:35So Game Time Picks makes curation much easier, it makes it easier to save more on sports,
00:22:39concerts, comedy, theater, et cetera.
00:22:41It's all in pricing, so you can use this feature to see the total upfront price.
00:22:46So there's no fees at the checkout, and the price that it says is the price that it is.
00:22:51You get the panoramic view, you get a lowest price guarantee for Game Time.
00:22:55So if you find a lower price elsewhere, Game Time will credit you 110% of the difference.
00:23:00And there's Game Time ticket coverage, so your purchase is covered with the most flexible
00:23:03customer service policy in the ticketing industry.
00:23:07So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with Game Time, download the Game Time app,
00:23:10create an account, and use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
00:23:14Terms apply.
00:23:15Again, create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off.
00:23:19Download Game Time today.
00:23:20What time is it?
00:23:21Game Time.
00:23:22Okay, so going into these questions, I've got a question here about Patriot Sunday.
00:23:30I don't watch football at all, but I did check what time this game was to make sure I didn't
00:23:34do this live stream at the same time, because I'm assuming there's a lot of people who are
00:23:38very excited to watch the Patriots play.
00:23:40And I'm keeping up, just so I'm not an idiot about it, so I know that they won their first
00:23:44game.
00:23:45I'll check the score for this one.
00:23:47But yeah, I don't really follow other Boston sports much, besides for the Celtics.
00:23:52Okay, question, do you think Jordan Walsh or Jaden Springer will play more?
00:23:58I would say almost for sure we will not see Jordan Walsh this season, just based on the
00:24:03fact that he's still really young, second year in the league.
00:24:06I think he's 19 now, or maybe he just turned 20.
00:24:10And I thought what we saw from him in summer league was a guy that is still very broad,
00:24:14that still has a lot of room for improvement, and still leaves a lot to be desired.
00:24:19He seemed like the game was still coming too fast for him.
00:24:22The shot wasn't quite there.
00:24:23And I think right now he's still more of a prospect than an NBA-ready player.
00:24:28So I do think we'll see him play a lot in Maine, and I'll be in Maine quite a bit this
00:24:31season, covering games, I'll be doing some live streams from Maine as well.
00:24:35So if you're interested in seeing some of the rookies, Baylor Shireman, Anthon Watson,
00:24:40maybe some of the training camp deal, I think J. Scrubb will be up there as well, from last
00:24:44year's two-way, if you guys remember him before he went down.
00:24:46So I think Jordan Walsh will be in that mix.
00:24:48But I don't think we will see him really in Celtics green in Boston at all, maybe a couple
00:24:56games here and there, he'll be sitting with them on the bench.
00:24:59I think we'll see a repeat of last season for the most part.
00:25:02I thought for a second there that maybe he could play like that O'Shea Persepolis.
00:25:06There's obviously some parallels in their game.
00:25:09But now after having seen him in Summer League and just thinking about how this roster is
00:25:12shaping up to be so deep, I'm going to go with a no for Jordan Walsh.
00:25:17James Springer is in a little bit of a different boat.
00:25:20He has a couple more years of experience under his belt.
00:25:22I think offensively, he's more polished.
00:25:24And I also think defensively, he's more polished right now.
00:25:27Saw him play a little bit for the Celtics last year, but also saw him play a singular
00:25:32G League game and a single Summer League game.
00:25:34And he looked really good in both of those.
00:25:36I've talked about this a little bit on here.
00:25:38So forgive me if you've already heard this spiel before, but I do think that James Springer
00:25:42is an NBA-ready player right now.
00:25:44The question is if the Celtics are a team that has a spot for him and for what he's
00:25:49able to contribute.
00:25:50But I would love nothing more than to see James Springer somehow enter this rotation.
00:25:55And I think it'll have to be as a result of Derek White slash Drew Holiday getting
00:26:00full nights off, unless someone suffers injuries, which I don't want to hope for.
00:26:04But I very well could see some of those guys that played through the finals in June,
00:26:09through the Olympics, get some rest days.
00:26:12And then maybe James Springer becomes a bench backup point guard in those moments
00:26:17or just a backup guard in Peyton Purchase running the show.
00:26:19So it's going to take someone to be out of the rotation for a given night for James
00:26:23Springer to play.
00:26:24But I think just how, given the fact that he already wasn't in Maine last year,
00:26:27he's been in the league for, I think this is his fourth year now.
00:26:32It's kind of like this is the year you want to see him play, right?
00:26:35You don't want to keep doing this riding the bench, getting DNPs much longer.
00:26:40And he showed through a limited sample before he was traded to Boston last year.
00:26:44He was playing in Philadelphia.
00:26:45He was guarding opposing team's best players, like Steph Curry and Luca,
00:26:49and he did a really good job on those.
00:26:51So I do think that he's proven that he can handle things at the NBA level.
00:26:55It's just a matter of whether he'll be able to get an opportunity in Boston,
00:26:59and I hope that he does.
00:27:00But I predict that he will at some point.
00:27:02I don't think it will be a consistent 10 minutes a night,
00:27:05but I think there'll be stretches of time where he's able to contribute.
00:27:09On that note, do you think Peyton Pritchard will have the chance
00:27:12to assert himself more as he matures into the NBA?
00:27:15Yeah, absolutely.
00:27:16I mean, Peyton Pritchard is somebody that they, you know,
00:27:19Missoula and the Celtics coaching staff and front office have already shown
00:27:22that they believe in him.
00:27:23They think that he can really help this team,
00:27:26and they think that he can really be a starting guard in the NBA.
00:27:30And I don't think that it's going to be on this Celtics team
00:27:32because they just have the depth and they have two, you know,
00:27:36fringe all-star players and two of the best defenders in the league.
00:27:39And that's always going to be a place where he has a disadvantage
00:27:42just defensively given his size.
00:27:44But there's going to be more and more of those games where he is playing
00:27:4730 minutes or he's playing 25 minutes and he's scoring 15 points.
00:27:51We saw a little bit of that in the second half of the season.
00:27:54Once the Celtics had locked up the first seed in the East
00:27:56and they were turning to give guys rest days.
00:27:59And I think Peyton Pritchard was actually a finalist
00:28:01for Eastern Conference Player of the Week one week.
00:28:03And I remember we were in Atlanta and we asked Derek White about that.
00:28:06Derek White was awarded Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
00:28:09And he said, you know, I thought Peyton Pritchard should have gotten it.
00:28:11So, like, we know that when he's given the opportunity to run the show,
00:28:14he excels and he's going to have a bigger opportunity.
00:28:17I mean, last year he made a big leap.
00:28:18I expect that we'll see a similar leap this season.
00:28:21It would really help if his shot is consistent from the jump.
00:28:23He struggled early on last year.
00:28:25But a lot of things that were uncertain about him,
00:28:27whether he could run the show,
00:28:28whether he could kind of like manage the game, that second unit,
00:28:32like he showed that he could do that.
00:28:34And I also think that he showed defensively
00:28:35he's not as much of a liability as maybe people had thought
00:28:38or maybe he was earlier in his career.
00:28:41So, we'll see.
00:28:46Another question here is on Keita.
00:28:48Could Keita be the lob player the Time Lord was?
00:28:51I think he can, actually.
00:28:52That's the one area where, I mean,
00:28:55Rob had like really good chemistry with some of his guards.
00:28:58And I think that his timing was really, really good.
00:29:00And timing is really everything when it comes to those kinds of things.
00:29:04So, I'm going to say like that's an area where I think Keita could catch up
00:29:08and be like a more Robert Williams lookalike in that sense.
00:29:12More so than the defense,
00:29:13where I think there's a bigger gap at this moment.
00:29:18Okay, question here on the weak Irv beef.
00:29:20I don't know if people saw this,
00:29:21but there was a report from the New York Post over the weekend
00:29:24that what happened between Wick Grusbeck and his father,
00:29:29who is 90 years old and has a 20% ownership stake in the team,
00:29:33is that Wick was paying everybody the max
00:29:36and kind of blowing through the Celtics cash,
00:29:38which everybody knows the Celtics have a very expensive payroll
00:29:41and really expensive payroll taxes as well.
00:29:44And the idea is that this report,
00:29:47when it claims that, again, I take it with a grain of salt
00:29:51because it's the New York Post
00:29:52and I haven't seen anybody in Boston media or the Celtics media cover this.
00:29:56And so, it's hard to tell.
00:29:58The idea was that it wasn't that Wick wanted to sell the team,
00:30:00is that his father kind of is forcing the issue
00:30:03and that there was like a kind of conflict between them.
00:30:06If that's the case, that would actually make more sense
00:30:09because nothing about like Wick's behavior,
00:30:11the way he talks, the way he carries himself,
00:30:13like anything that I've heard from anybody
00:30:15made any of us think that Wick was going to sell this team.
00:30:18So, learning that perhaps he wasn't going to sell this team on his own accord
00:30:22and it was actually his father that made the call
00:30:24and that it's been a point of friction, it makes a lot of sense.
00:30:27And I think that's why the rumor took off
00:30:29because it fits people's ideals a little bit more than what we had anticipated,
00:30:34what we had kind of initially thought
00:30:35was that Wick was just selling the team on his own accord,
00:30:37which didn't really make any sense.
00:30:39It also makes you wonder, like,
00:30:40I wonder if there's a chance that the Celtics will not be sold,
00:30:42but I don't know.
00:30:43I don't think that's really on the cards right now.
00:30:45But my take is that Wick can go down as a Boston hero, honestly,
00:30:49because he's already one of the most beloved owners in sports.
00:30:52Obviously, everybody's super grateful by the fact that he paid everybody,
00:30:55that he extended everybody, that he gave everybody the contracts
00:30:58that they deserved, that they needed to stay in Boston,
00:31:00and that there was maybe going to be a little bit of a stain on his legacy
00:31:03of like, but then he sold the team,
00:31:05and then who knows what's going to happen after he sells the team
00:31:07if the new owner does anything differently,
00:31:09then you can attribute that back to Wick.
00:31:10And maybe had he stayed in ownership,
00:31:12he wouldn't have traded this player or didn't sign somebody or whatnot.
00:31:17Now, this kind of clears his name a little bit
00:31:19just because of the fact that he is,
00:31:23it doesn't sound like he's the one that wanted to sell the team.
00:31:25So we'll see.
00:31:26I don't know for sure that this is true.
00:31:28I'm sure there'll be more reports that come out in the coming weeks
00:31:31on this topic.
00:31:32This is going to be a big storyline moving forward until the team is sold
00:31:35and until we figure out who the new ownership group is.
00:31:38I also saw there was a WEI report a couple weeks back
00:31:41naming the three finalists,
00:31:43and Steve Pagliuca was not on that list and Jeff Bezos was.
00:31:49Again, a lot of swirling stuff out there,
00:31:52but there's a couple of sources that I really rely on.
00:31:54I think Adam Himmelbach of the Globe is usually somebody that is
00:31:57the first to know really these kinds of news,
00:31:59obviously like Woz and Choms if they have this intel,
00:32:01that would be a big thing as well.
00:32:03But I'm not going to necessarily run with the New York Post thing just yet
00:32:06because at the end of the day, it is a tabloid
00:32:08and I don't necessarily know what the sources are,
00:32:10but it's a story that makes sense and I get why it's caught on.
00:32:16Yeah, question here.
00:32:17This is a fun one.
00:32:18Did you have any fun summer league interactions with people in the NBA
00:32:20who aren't players?
00:32:22Quite a few actually.
00:32:23One of the cool things was I talked to a lot of the Celtics assistant coaches
00:32:28that I just haven't had the chance to form a relationship with
00:32:32during the season just because everybody's busy and you're on the road
00:32:36and also the kind of access that I had,
00:32:38it was behind the court so I wasn't on the court for pregame stuff.
00:32:42And so, yeah, that was cool to just be able to establish
00:32:45some more rapport with them.
00:32:46And the thing with summer league,
00:32:47and I explained this a little bit when I was at summer league,
00:32:49but the general idea is that it's an opportunity for people
00:32:53to interface with players and coaches and GMs and scouts and agents
00:33:00in a way that's really unique to the NBA landscape.
00:33:02And obviously, I had a media pass,
00:33:04so I had different access than maybe a fan would have.
00:33:07But even a fan, I saw fans just going up to players
00:33:10and talking to them and coaches,
00:33:11like something you would never see in an NBA arena.
00:33:14So I would say Celtics assistant coaches were the most fun interactions
00:33:18that I had with non-players at the end, at summer league.
00:33:22But also, I just talked to a lot of scouts and agents
00:33:26and people in front offices of other organizations,
00:33:29and everybody's pretty candid.
00:33:31I heard a lot of rumors about things and a lot of stuff
00:33:34that's off the record.
00:33:35But to be honest with you, the last year or the first year doing this,
00:33:38I was always like, how do you build sources?
00:33:40I feel like people are always like, league sources, tell me, or whatnot.
00:33:42And I thought to myself, I wonder if I'll ever be able to have sources.
00:33:46And I feel like now I have not.
00:33:47I'm not going to be the most plugged-in person,
00:33:49but I definitely have a better network of people
00:33:52in different organizations and agents and scouts
00:33:54and people that I am in contact with now.
00:33:57So it was really productive in that sense as well.
00:34:00And it's just cool to hear what people think about the Celtics.
00:34:02One thing that I can share is a lot of opposing teams,
00:34:06GMs, and front office people said, kind of praise the Celtics culture.
00:34:11And they said in the draft,
00:34:12everybody knows the Celtics are going to draft good people
00:34:15who have good backgrounds and are known for being good culture people
00:34:21and things like that.
00:34:22And so it was just cool to hear candid perspectives
00:34:25on this organization from other viewpoints,
00:34:27because obviously I live in Boston and I mostly talk to people
00:34:30that cover Boston and are involved with this organization.
00:34:33So it was just good to hear kind of a neutral ground in that sense.

00:35:44PrizePix, run your game.
00:35:49Okay, so I'm seeing some more comments, questions.
00:35:51I'm going to run through these because I know we've been going
00:35:54for a little bit here, but I have a thought to take here
00:35:57from someone.
00:35:58This is the picture Mike had traded this year.
00:36:00Brad talked about guys deserving a chance, but also that he wants
00:36:02to be sustainable.
00:36:04I think the second April will be a factor with Lonnie Walker
00:36:07and Springer too.
00:36:10Pritchard might get traded, but I actually think that he's
00:36:12on a pretty affordable contract.
00:36:14So I think he, as actually one of the few Celtics players
00:36:17that maybe you do have to keep around, actually,
00:36:19because of the fact that he's not getting paid $20 million a year.
00:36:22So he wouldn't be my guess.
00:36:26I would think that it's more of like another team sees
00:36:28like a really high value for him beyond what he's contributing
00:36:31on the team.
00:36:32Like if there's a team out there that really believes in Pritchard
00:36:34as a starting point guard in the NBA and is willing to give up
00:36:36something substantive for it, that I think would be more likely,
00:36:41but I don't think he'll get traded this year.
00:36:44But it's a hot take, so it's a fair one for you to have.
00:36:48Comment here from Tommy B.
00:36:49I hope Baylor has a role with his team, Ben shooting, playmaking,
00:36:51an underrated rebounder.
00:36:53I think Baylor will have a role with his team, but I don't think
00:36:55it'll be this season.
00:36:57Would love to be proven wrong.
00:36:58Would love to see like a rookie in the Knicks.
00:36:59Would be a fun little storyline, especially since we have
00:37:01like literally all the same players as last year.
00:37:04But Baylor at Summer League looked like he was not necessarily
00:37:10completely ready, but that he obviously had flashes of being
00:37:12an NBA-ready player and a real contributor for the Celtics team.
00:37:15So I think Baylor will get to the point where he is in the rotation
00:37:19of the Celtics or another team.
00:37:22I think he'll spend most of this year in Maine alongside
00:37:24Anton Watson, alongside Jordan Walsh, alongside, honestly,
00:37:27JD Davison.
00:37:28So there's a young core there of guys that have been drafted
00:37:30over the last few years that are a little bit stuck.
00:37:32So I feel for those guys.
00:37:34I think Baylor, even though he's a little bit older,
00:37:36I would be surprised.
00:37:37But again, you never know what's going to happen.
00:37:39Like maybe Sam Houser gets hurt, knock on wood.
00:37:41You know, stuff like that can go and all of a sudden you have a guy
00:37:44that can maybe be a Sam Houser light on the bench.
00:37:51Another question about Peyton Pritchard.
00:37:52Can you see Peyton ultimately being the starting guard
00:37:54in the near future?
00:38:03The problem is, is that I think if Pritchard is a starting guard,
00:38:05like there are things about his game that would put him at a disadvantage
00:38:10against bigger guards.
00:38:12Like he has to make like a Jalen Brunson type leap, honestly,
00:38:15like offensively, like, which is obviously a high bar.
00:38:22Yeah, I can see him being a starting, the starting guard on the Celtics.
00:38:25Like I'm thinking like if Drew Holliday retires or leaves,
00:38:28or if they have to offload his contract at some point,
00:38:30because that's a really expensive contract.
00:38:34I'm trying to think, Peyton Pritchard, Jared White backcourt.
00:38:36You lose them and you obviously lose something defensively,
00:38:38but I think it could happen.
00:38:41And I think especially because I don't think he's at his peak yet
00:38:43and at his prime.
00:38:44And some of you who follow me might know I'm a big proponent of Peyton
00:38:48Pritchard being an NBA all-star ceiling player.
00:38:51I don't think that he's going to be an all-star necessarily,
00:38:53but I think that's his ceiling.
00:38:54So, yeah, it's an interesting question.
00:38:58I'm a little stumped with this one, actually.
00:39:00I'm going to think about that one further.
00:39:03Comment here, if he would become the next Aaron Eastman,
00:39:05Max Cruz on a worse team.
00:39:07Oh, like Celtics killer.
00:39:08Yeah, I think absolutely.
00:39:09If you traded him away,
00:39:10he's going for like 25 every time he faces Boston moving forward.
00:39:15Question here, is Przingis going to be traveling to Dubai
00:39:17or is he separated from the team during his recovery?
00:39:19Right now he's in Latvia.
00:39:20I would imagine he'll be back in Boston soon,
00:39:23just to be around the team from the jump.
00:39:25I think he probably will travel to Dubai.
00:39:29I know in the playoffs,
00:39:30he was like adamant about wanting to travel with the team,
00:39:32but I don't know for sure.
00:39:33So when I learn, I'll share that out.
00:39:35Question about Tatum's aura during the rap battle with James.
00:39:40I thought that was funny.
00:39:41I just like that Tatum doesn't take himself too seriously, honestly.
00:39:44Like he could be taking in all the aura stuff and thinking to himself,
00:39:47okay, I'm going to be extra,
00:39:50like I'm going to be extra uptight now and not joke around or not ever put
00:39:53myself in any positions that I can be made fun of.
00:39:56And instead he just doesn't care.
00:39:57So I think he just leans deeper in the direction of like doing the stuff
00:40:00that he wants to do.
00:40:01So I thought that was a funny moment.
00:40:06This is a good question.
00:40:07Do you think the starting five dynamic shifts at all this year,
00:40:09do role shifts at all?
00:40:10Joe talked about innovating,
00:40:11not necessarily doing everything the same way.
00:40:14Yeah, it definitely will.
00:40:16And again, because you kind of answered your question.
00:40:18Like I think that we're expecting, at least I'm expecting,
00:40:20like in my head,
00:40:21subconsciously that everything will be the same as last year and then they'll
00:40:24just kind of run it back.
00:40:26But that's not what's going to happen because this is a different team.
00:40:29This is a different year.
00:40:30It's a different league and you have to reinvent the wheel.
00:40:33You have to start from scratch and relearn the habits and everything in
00:40:36its sense. Right?
00:40:37Like you still obviously sign everybody because you believe that the team
00:40:40could work.
00:40:42One thing I would like to see is a little bit more diversity in crunch time.
00:40:45Like I think during the regular season,
00:40:46you saw all those shots going to Tatum and then in the playoffs,
00:40:49I think they became more unpredictable.
00:40:50So like that's a dynamic that maybe you see more,
00:40:52maybe you see Jill and Brown taking the final shot a little bit sometimes,
00:40:56or Derek White or whatnot.
00:40:57Like that's a dynamic where it becomes a little bit more egalitarian in that
00:41:01sense.
00:41:02I think Al Horford's minutes and miles are going to be even more limited in
00:41:07the, during the regular season next year,
00:41:09just because every year he gets a little bit older and every year he has
00:41:12more miles under him.
00:41:14And so he might be a guy that like UC has a smaller role in the rotation
00:41:19and that they just kind of like limit what,
00:41:21what they need from him during the regular season.
00:41:23And so wouldn't he be surprised if you're seeing the starting five playing
00:41:26with like a different bench big, a lot like what,
00:41:29whether that's Tillman or Kata or Luke,
00:41:32I think all guys that are have their own unique advantages for whatever
00:41:36reasons.
00:41:37Trying to think what else, I mean,
00:41:39I think the thing I've been thinking about is like,
00:41:41are this everybody going to be able to keep this up?
00:41:43Like I think Derek White had a great shooting season,
00:41:45drew all day Al Horford.
00:41:46Like, is everyone going to be able to keep that up?
00:41:48If anything,
00:41:49if anybody has a sense of drop-off from a shooting standpoint,
00:41:51like that's obviously that's obviously like something that might disrupt
00:41:56the dynamic as well.
00:41:58But I'm yeah, I'm sorry.
00:41:59I feel like I've been speculating about this stuff all summer.
00:42:01I'm so excited to actually just see it happen and to just see how things
00:42:04look and how different things look and who made a leap,
00:42:07who may be struggling a little bit and how you can mix and match
00:42:09combinations.
00:42:10Again, like this team is unique that there's not going to be like a whole,
00:42:13a lot of new faces.
00:42:14If you don't, you can't imagine how they're going to come work together.
00:42:16Like it's going to be the same guys,
00:42:18but I think we're going to still be surprised with some of some people
00:42:20making leaps and other people may be struggling a bit.
00:42:26Another real assignment question.
00:42:28I think his role eventually will be that he's a good floor spacer.
00:42:33I think like a Sam Houser style player,
00:42:36but he's a better passer and he's a less good shooter.
00:42:39And right now he's not as good of a defender,
00:42:41but the hope is that he gets the same Houser,
00:42:43but I think he plays that type of role where he's coming off the bench,
00:42:46giving you 15 minutes a night and just being a smart,
00:42:49like connective style player.
00:42:54Yeah. East does feel strong.
00:42:56I'm also super excited for Knicks, Bucks, Sixers.
00:42:59I'm excited for like all those top teams that I've mentioned this,
00:43:02but I'm going to be on the road for a lot of these games.
00:43:05So I will be providing like on the ground coverage from,
00:43:08I think hopefully all those big match-ups too on the road as well.
00:43:13Forzica's injury makes me think Celtics might finish third or fourth in the East.
00:43:17I don't think that the injury will be like,
00:43:20I don't think it'll be like a catastrophe without him,
00:43:22but actually like kind of like where you're at with the idea of the Celtics
00:43:25finishing third or fourth in the East.
00:43:27I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised.
00:43:29I think everybody's expecting this team to be a top seed again,
00:43:33because why not?
00:43:34And they were the top seed by just so much last year,
00:43:36but it's really hard to win a championship and come back and dominate from
00:43:39the jump. And there's a reason why we don't see it very often.
00:43:42So I have them like maybe coming in second or third.
00:43:46I wouldn't be surprised if they were in first,
00:43:48like there's no reason to think that they wouldn't be,
00:43:50but I like where you're at thinking about this and let's start to normalize
00:43:53it so people aren't panicking in a few months when they've lost three games in
00:43:56a row and it's November and they're in the fourth seed.
00:43:58So I get what you're saying.
00:44:02I will not be in Dubai, unfortunately. I've never been there.
00:44:05And maybe next year or another year with the way the NBA is going with the
00:44:08Celtics and with the NBA in Dubai and all that,
00:44:11like there was going to be other opportunities I'm assuming to go there.
00:44:15So hopefully in the new year.
00:44:18Do you think the Knicks will spoil the Celtics ring night?
00:44:20First of all, nothing should be able to spoil it.
00:44:22I'm a big proponent of like,
00:44:23I get really worried about my friends and family spending money on Celtics
00:44:26tickets because ultimately like you could spend a thousand dollars on
00:44:31tickets. Then you watch the Celtics lose in the finals and it sucks.
00:44:34And everybody's in a bad mood and everybody wants their money back.
00:44:36And that's when I think the fans can start getting kind of nasty as well.
00:44:40But I think that the fact that the Knicks,
00:44:44the fact that they already have ring night and the ceremony makes me feel safe
00:44:47enough to buy them tickets.
00:44:48I'm buying my dad and my brother tickets the opening night,
00:44:50because even if they lose,
00:44:51I still think it's like going to be an awesome experience and it won't take
00:44:54away from the fact that the banner was hung and all that jazz.
00:44:58But to actually answer your question about whether the Knicks will win,
00:45:01I can see you going 50-50.
00:45:02I mean, I think this Knicks team is going to be fired up, ready to go.
00:45:04But I also don't think Celtics are going to roll into their own home and
00:45:08come out sleeping.
00:45:09Like I think that they are going to want to win on ring night as well.
00:45:12So I see you going either way. It's a fun first round matchup,
00:45:15but honestly,
00:45:16I wished it was they had picked a team that there was a little bit more of a
00:45:19rivalry with, like,
00:45:20I felt like the Knicks are to me that they're a very likable team.
00:45:24I like watching them.
00:45:25I don't feel like they have like much friction with the Celtics at this
00:45:27point. They haven't played them in the playoffs.
00:45:30The star players over there,
00:45:31like there hasn't been any individual storylines really.
00:45:33So it's more just like two big markets in the Northeast and I get it,
00:45:36but I wish they had picked like Miami or a team that they just played in
00:45:39the playoffs.
00:45:40Like even the,
00:45:41maybe the Patriots would have been a bad pick.
00:45:43I don't know. I think I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:45:45I felt like Miami, so obviously the,
00:45:46the team they couldn't overcome throughout this playoff run,
00:45:49throughout these last few years, and obviously did it this year.
00:45:51I don't know.
00:45:52I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:45:53I felt like Miami, so obviously the,
00:45:55the team they couldn't overcome throughout this playoff run,
00:45:57and obviously did it this year.
00:45:58I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:45:59I felt like Miami, honestly.
00:46:00I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:01I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:02I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:03I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:04I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:05I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:06I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:07I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:08I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:09I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:10I don't know. I just wish it was Miami, honestly.
00:46:12I'm going to just go through a few more of these,
00:46:13because I'm not really in a rush, honestly.
00:46:15My timeline was, I assume,
00:46:16everybody wants to watch the Patriots game at 1 o'clock.
00:46:18I don't know. I don't know.
00:46:19Leave a comment in the chat if you're a Patriots and a Celtics fan.
00:46:22I'm curious if that's a complete overlap,
00:46:24or if some people are like me and really just only follow basketball.
00:46:27I'm just curious.
00:46:28I'll continue to answer these.
00:46:31Question here from Tom Coolidge.
00:46:34Crazy that the season is already so close.
00:46:36What do you think of the Sun beating the Mercury handily on Friday?
00:46:38Looks like they're prepped for a deep playoff run.
00:46:40And what Tom is referring to is the Connecticut Sun,
00:46:42which is New England's WNBA team,
00:46:44which hopefully if you weren't at all WNBA enthusiasts in previous years,
00:46:48maybe this year you're deciding to check them out,
00:46:50whether that's because of Caitlin Clark or somebody else.
00:46:52I think they've been a lot of fun.
00:46:54The league has been a lot of fun this year.
00:46:55So much talent across the board, so much history being made.
00:46:58And if you're a Boston Celtics fan,
00:47:00and you're a Celtics fan for regional reasons,
00:47:03if you're from around this area,
00:47:04the Connecticut Sun are currently the third best team in the WNBA.
00:47:08I also cover them.
00:47:09I'll be in Connecticut this week multiple times.
00:47:11And in the playoffs,
00:47:12they're actually going to most likely play the Indiana Fever and Caitlin
00:47:15Clark this weekend.
00:47:17Next week is going to be the first round of the playoffs.
00:47:20But I think the Sun have looked really, really good.
00:47:22They still have some outstanding issues.
00:47:26They're a team that kind of reminded me a little bit of the Celtics of old,
00:47:29like where there was just down the stretch,
00:47:31you just worry a little bit about their offense.
00:47:33And then they traded for a high volume score in Marina Mabry.
00:47:36So she might be able to make a difference.
00:47:38So I would like to think the Sun have a chance.
00:47:41I don't feel as confident in them as I, like,
00:47:44I think for those of you that followed my coverage this past year,
00:47:46like I was very sure the Celtics were going to win the championship from the
00:47:49start.
00:47:50At least from like early on, I had a really good feeling about it.
00:47:53And I don't have that feeling about the Sun.
00:47:54I think that there's some outstanding issues this team has that if you just
00:47:58look at like the New York Liberty,
00:47:59they just have a roster with less holes and they just have been more
00:48:03dominant this season.
00:48:04And I worry about the fact that the Sun have really struggled against the
00:48:07aces in the Liberty in the last two years,
00:48:09but I do think that they're going to make it out of the first round with the
00:48:12fever and maybe even the second round. So we'll see, but they're a fun team.
00:48:17Today is starting at three o'clock Eastern time.
00:48:19There's like six WNBA games today. So if you're not,
00:48:21if you haven't been tuned in, this is kind of what I do with March Madness.
00:48:24I don't really follow a lot of college basketball, but I'll start,
00:48:26I'll start paying attention to the regular season,
00:48:28like the last two weeks of the season so that I can enjoy March Madness more.
00:48:32And so if you want to do that with the WNBA and you miss basketball,
00:48:35you can watch today and you can learn a little bit about the players and then
00:48:39you can tune into the playoffs starting next week.
00:48:41And playoffs are just during the regular NBA preseason.
00:48:44By the time the regular season starts with NBA, WNBA is completely over.
00:48:47So it's kind of a nice little way to cycle through one into the other.
00:48:52Question about Jalen Brown's music video. I think it's funny, honestly.
00:48:58I'm not like a rap critic. So I don't want to,
00:49:00I don't want to speak out of turn,
00:49:02but I feel like he probably has room for improvement and just like his delivery.
00:49:05But I think that it's cool that he's doing the side quests.
00:49:08I think that's cool that he's just trying out different things.
00:49:10And it's like,
00:49:11if I was a famous NBA player that made $300 million and I have a huge platform
00:49:16to do whatever I want, like I would try crazy fun stuff too.
00:49:18So he clearly had a message that he wanted to share.
00:49:21I think it's cool that he did it.
00:49:23I don't know that if I see a rap career for him,
00:49:25but he maybe he'll drive a song here and there.
00:49:27Like you really got nothing to lose. And I think that he's already shown,
00:49:29he doesn't really care what people think.
00:49:30He doesn't really care if people want to laugh at him with a dunk contest,
00:49:33all that. Like he's been the laughingstock so many times.
00:49:35He always comes out on top.
00:49:36So I think like this music video was just another example in my eyes of him,
00:49:40not really caring what people think about him and just doing what he wants to
00:49:43do. And it was kind of entertaining,
00:49:44but I don't know that I'm like listening to the song in my free time much.
00:49:51Okay. I'm just going to run through these really quick.
00:49:54I'm going to take maybe two more questions.
00:49:56A lot of interesting comments here.
00:49:58Drew Peterson question about Drew Peterson as a dark host rotation player.
00:50:02Drew Peterson was acquired mid season last year as a two way.
00:50:06And he again is resigned as a two way this year.
00:50:09I don't even know if that spot is like guaranteed.
00:50:11Like I could see maybe him going elsewhere. I he's another guy.
00:50:15I'm rooting for him. He's really nice.
00:50:17I've interviewed him a bunch of times,
00:50:18but I don't know that he showed at summer league that he's NBA ready.
00:50:21And you don't want to read too much into summer league.
00:50:23Certainly summer league has shown over time that you can have a player or two
00:50:28or three that struggle and they struggle throughout the tournament.
00:50:32And then they eventually have a great NBA career.
00:50:34Like Sam Hauser didn't look great at summer league. Right.
00:50:36And so he's just the guy that I think his ball handling leads a little bit
00:50:39to be desired. He's not like a knockdown shooter.
00:50:44So there's just like,
00:50:45there's nothing that he's like excellent at and that's the problem.
00:50:48He told me when I,
00:50:49he first joined the team in Maine that he's looking to Derek White is like his
00:50:54on-court inspiration, just being like kind of an all,
00:50:56everything you can be kind of player and all around player.
00:51:01I don't know why I said everything could be an all around player.
00:51:03And so I think that Sam Hauser is a comparison for him just because he's
00:51:08managed to be a connective piece, obviously the shooting,
00:51:11but drew to me is just like,
00:51:12he's not a good enough shooter to warrant something like that.
00:51:16He's not a good enough shooter to warrant some of his other weaknesses.
00:51:20So he's going to have to either become a better shooter or work on those
00:51:22weaknesses. And I don't know that this year,
00:51:24I see him entering the rotation of probably the most stacked team in the
00:51:27league. So probably not on Drew Peterson, but I'll keep covering him.
00:51:30I'll be up in Maine.
00:51:31I'll be one of the guys that I'm curious about.
00:51:32And I think it's super cool that the two,
00:51:34two ways from last year,
00:51:35JD Davidson and Drew Peterson are both coming back this season.
00:51:39And they're both staying with his organization.
00:51:41It just shows a level of continuity and buy-in for this squad,
00:51:45which is just a lot of fun.
00:51:49What do you think of the West for the upcoming season?
00:51:51I think the West is going to be loaded.
00:51:52I had to pick like my top three seeds. I think it's going to be.
00:51:58Thunder wolves nuggets. That was the three seats.
00:52:02That was probably the top three seats from last year, right?
00:52:04It's not a very bold prediction, but those are going to be my, my topics.
00:52:07I think all three of those teams are going to take a,
00:52:10a jump and improvement from last year.
00:52:12And I actually think that people are sleeping on the nuggets and that
00:52:15nuggets are going to surprise some people because they're obviously
00:52:17they're down to role players, but I think Jamal Murray is one of those guys.
00:52:20It's getting really recently biased where people are just thinking about
00:52:23his struggles with team Canada and a little bit on the playoffs and some
00:52:26injury stuff. He just signed a supermax extension. I'm,
00:52:30I think Jamal Murray is just, I mean, we all know he's a huge playoff riser.
00:52:33And I think that he's, he's due for a good season and he's,
00:52:35I think he's going to surprise some people. So nuggets, I think is a,
00:52:38I hate it's weird to say dark horse candidates,
00:52:40but because they just won the championship two years ago,
00:52:42but I almost feel like they've kind of,
00:52:43they're already falling out of public public consciousness a little bit.
00:52:46But thunder are going to be really good. Honestly, like a little scary.
00:52:50Good. Just the fact that they,
00:52:52they're like the only team that only for sure got better in over the off
00:52:56season to me, like of the contenders, because.
00:52:58They lost Josh Giddey, who I think actually hurt them oftentimes.
00:53:01And he was just a guy that they couldn't really figure out how to use him.
00:53:04And then adding two great defenders in Alex Caruso,
00:53:09Alex Crusoe Mood or together, like that's just a nightmare.
00:53:11And then Isaiah Harden's being, obviously he is somebody that is.
00:53:17One of the best offensive rebounders in the league, just a smart player.
00:53:20I think the Knicks are going to really miss him.
00:53:21And I've actually like kept,
00:53:22I keep forgetting when I talked to the Knicks and he's not going to be
00:53:24there anymore. I obviously know he's not going to be there, but he's,
00:53:26he's an impact player. So thunder, I think are gonna,
00:53:29I actually think they might come out of the West next year. So we'll see,
00:53:32but I'm very high on them.
00:53:38Yeah. Maybe I'd hate for the heat.
00:53:44Yeah. This is a funny comment.
00:53:45Joe will not allow for complacency opening night.
00:53:47I was just talking a few minutes ago about whether the Celtics will lose
00:53:51opening night to the Knicks.
00:53:52I think that there's going to be a very,
00:53:54very intentional focused mindset heading into the season about Joe Mazula
00:53:59making sure everybody knows that we are not losing on break night.
00:54:01Like that is not going to happen.
00:54:02We're not going to do one of those championship teams that gets their
00:54:05break night spoiled.
00:54:11Okay. This is a fun question.
00:54:12Who is the kindest Celtics player to fans behind the scenes?
00:54:21I'm going to start by saying, I don't see all the fan interactions,
00:54:24obviously, but what I, a really good, you know,
00:54:28capture of fan interactions is pre-game when fans are lining up for
00:54:32autographs. The player that signs the most autographs is
00:54:38probably Jason Tatum. He doesn't do it like with a ton of warmth.
00:54:42Like he's not really chatting with the players,
00:54:44but he's like very locked in. And but he, he does it. He really does it.
00:54:48He'll sign like, he'll do it for like multiple minutes in a row.
00:54:51And it's unusual for star players.
00:54:53I've been in away arenas this year where like the security guards were like,
00:54:56Oh my gosh, like he is signing so many autographs. Like this is crazy.
00:55:01I've never seen our star players do it like this or like when other star
00:55:04players come in, they don't, they don't usually do that.
00:55:06So that's like one thing that stood out as far as like fan interactions,
00:55:09it's probably Christoph Sporzingis. He's just like waving, smiling,
00:55:13very interactive, very charismatic,
00:55:16very comfortable with the fans obviously. And then Derek White,
00:55:20I'd be remiss to not mention Derek White.
00:55:22He'll see like a random fan with like a Derek White sign and like the fifth
00:55:25row and like make sure to sign something. So sometimes I'll meet,
00:55:28I'll meet a fan pre-game that has like a Derek White t-shirt or has like
00:55:33some Derek White memorabilia or something.
00:55:35And we'll be like, what's the chances that we're going to meet him?
00:55:37And I'm like, actually, I think if he sees your stuff,
00:55:39he will for sure sign it.
00:55:40And there have been a number of times last year where I was right.
00:55:43And I would then see Derek White signing the thing and I'd already posted
00:55:46the initial fan. So it was kind of like a full story thing.
00:55:48So those three guys probably are at the top of the list.
00:55:51I think that Sam has, there's a question here,
00:55:53but whether he'll break the three point record this season.
00:55:56I was in DC for that game where he had,
00:55:59I forgot how many threes he had,
00:56:01but he was on well on his way to breaking the three point record for most
00:56:04reason, a single game in a season. And then he's sprained his ankle.
00:56:07And I was so frustrating because it was such a useless game and had been
00:56:10nothing. And there was like no interesting storylines that came out of it.
00:56:12Except for the fact that obviously Sam has,
00:56:16or was, you know, what was the best thing history and then he didn't.
00:56:18So he'll probably do it.
00:56:19I think he's the kind of shooter where he has opportunity to,
00:56:21he has a good chance, but again,
00:56:22there's a lot of shooters that have tried to do it.
00:56:24They have come close that haven't been able to pick to come out of the
00:56:27West. I think I mentioned, but I think it's going to be the thunder.
00:56:29Second place would be the nuggets.
00:56:31Okay.
00:56:33Oh, he just wrapped on the late night show.
00:56:35That was pretty bad.
00:56:36I think we have to go with Jalen Brown there out of respect for the song.
00:56:38Okay. I'm going to answer this last question.
00:56:40I've had to go through most of these.
00:56:41So I wasn't able to answer all of them.
00:56:43So I'm going to answer this last question.
00:56:44I'm going to answer this last question.
00:56:45I'm going to answer this last question.
