00:00Celtics Beat is brought to you by Price Picks and the Game Time app.
00:07What's up, everyone?
00:08New edition of Celtics Beat back with you.
00:10And as promised last week, we told you the next one, it would be September.
00:13Here we are.
00:14We're roughly one week in and, you know, not a lot.
00:17Did you just take credit for the calendar?
00:19We did.
00:20I really did.
00:21That's the point.
00:22That's the point in the summer we were at.
00:23Just like I told you, it was going to be September.
00:26While we're here, we made it.
00:27Valenti, Forsberg, Kauffman here with you.
00:30And training camp, it's approaching.
00:32We have, you know, preseason, regular season games.
00:35Still way too far away.
00:37Not a lot has happened concerning the Celtics since our last show.
00:42Other than, I guess, you know, to shout out people in the podcast space,
00:46our buddy John Corrales of Locked On.
00:48I had a nice long interview with Joe Mizzoula,
00:51who continues to be just a complete and total psychopath.
00:56But he's our psychopath, and we love him.
00:58And so we'll talk a little bit about that for people
01:01who haven't had the chance to listen.
01:02I do encourage that you do so.
01:04Not that we're, you know, always going crazy,
01:07go listen to this pod, that pod, that pod.
01:09But you know what?
01:10The Celtics are a community.
01:11Forsberg, he's, once upon a time, he had multiple podcasts, you know,
01:15doing the in-house one over at NBC Sports Boston that you continue to do.
01:19You had the one with Ennis Cantor as well.
01:21You know, it feels like a lifetime ago.
01:23Oh boy, things have been frantic, haven't they?
01:27We've come a long way from the Ennis freedom days.
01:31But yeah, like as you said, we need to lift each other up.
01:35It was good this time of year.
01:37Content is content.
01:38And to get that elite content, good on Corrales.
01:41So I do want to mention too, I keep,
01:44the last couple of shows I've been forgetting to do this.
01:47And Forsberg, you're a perfect person to be here for me to do this.
01:50I considered doing it with Bullpen last week.
01:52I didn't think he would, you know,
01:53share the same enthusiasm that you guys might.
01:56You guys may have seen me out there watching, listening,
01:59posting something on Twitter about this like weeks ago.
02:02Well, now I have one of my own.
02:04We're all familiar with Pete Rogers, the Celtics.
02:07Yes.
02:08So how about this jersey that I got in the mail?
02:13Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on.
02:15Can we guess which one you got?
02:17I've gone through a lot of the iterations.
02:20We did a bracket of all the favorite ones from the season.
02:23Okay.
02:24I like that.
02:26Was it a popular one or is it like a rogue one?
02:29It's a, I don't know how popular it was.
02:32It's a relatively new one though.
02:34It's not like one from a year and a half ago that I'm just bringing up.
02:38It wasn't like the Duncans one or the MBTA one?
02:41No, no, no.
02:42Okay.
02:43See, I must say, like, I was like, when we did the pod with him,
02:47we were, I was super immersed in it.
02:49And I, I just, the, the final run,
02:52I don't remember a lot at the finish line.
02:54Was there a championship version?
02:56Like did he do a.
02:57There's a championship one.
02:59Yeah.
03:00So, so this quite, this quite literally is the banner 18.
03:04Oh my goodness.
03:05Okay.
03:06So it's a band.
03:07So good.
03:08So, and, and on the back is just the number zero.
03:11I don't need to show you that,
03:12but some of the cool things that I like about this Jersey.
03:14So this is one side.
03:16You have all the numbers.
03:17Oh, that's so cool.
03:18On the roster.
03:19Okay.
03:20Which is kind of neat.
03:21And then the other side is, is, is I think particularly unique.
03:26Again, these are the sides of the Jersey.
03:28It's it's Tatum and Brown.
03:30Oh, so cool.
03:31Right.
03:32He is actually like,
03:34if you talk to him about this particular project that he's done,
03:37he does focus on literally every part of the Jersey and the sides and
03:41like why he does certain things.
03:43I shout out to Pete, man.
03:45That guy's the best.
03:46The best.
03:47Yeah.
03:48So, I mean, nobody asked me to show this or anything, but you know,
03:51they sent me one and I was like, oh, this is the coolest thing I've ever
03:54seen.
03:55How do I not show the people?
03:56I don't even know where you can.
03:57I don't know if you can buy it.
03:59Like, I don't, I don't even know how that all works.
04:01So he did have a guy that was I wish I could pull it off top of my
04:05head, Wade and something that they, they were, they were selling them.
04:08Yeah.
04:09The yeah.
04:10Wade and Williamson.
04:11I think that's it.
04:12And you know, we're doing a terrible job.
04:14Promoting right now, but they were nice enough to send me.
04:16I have the G because I am, I consider myself the primary Gino
04:19historian.
04:20I had a Gino.
04:21And you know, time one is sick.
04:23The Gino time.
04:24One was ill.
04:25I liked that one.
04:26It's so good.
04:27Very far in the bracket.
04:28I did.
04:29With Jack Simone.
04:30We did a, we did a bracket.
04:31And Sam, I think is with him too.
04:33And it was, it was a fun time.
04:35And having Pete along with it.
04:36It fell over.
04:37I got to critique Pete a little bit, which felt a little,
04:40Tough for me to do.
04:41Genius.
04:42Sometimes you gotta be brutally honest.
04:43The Gino time.
04:44One made it very, very far in the bracket.
04:46I think he got to at least the semifinals.
04:48It was one to eliminate.
04:49And I think.
04:50I think it was between that one, like the dunks one.
04:52The MBTA one, which I thought was super.
04:54So good.
04:55I was on the wait list for the Tatum pink lemonade one.
04:58That matched the shoe color one.
05:00I was on the wait list for the Tatum pink lemonade one.
05:02I was on the wait list for the Tatum pink lemonade one.
05:04I was on the wait list for the Tatum pink lemonade one.
05:07That matched the shoe color way.
05:09I just never got an email back that they came into stock.
05:11So maybe Pete can help me with that.
05:13But that thing was.
05:14Again, a guy, the guy's genius.
05:16And how, like when he first started that.
05:18I was almost amazed that he was going to do it after everyone.
05:21I was like, man, you're gonna run out of ideas.
05:22And he.
05:23And he.
05:24I was so impressed.
05:26It was no lack of creativity.
05:28So yeah, the PR company is Wade and Williamson.
05:30You can get them on Twitter.
05:31I think it's, it's Wade and will.
05:33Underscore.
05:35Let me just double check that in case you want to.
05:37I'm a big fan of the underscore.
05:38Will underscore.
05:40If you, if people out there want to, want to check them out and see what,
05:43what offerings they may have.
05:45But yeah, it's very cool, obviously.
05:47So thanks to them for sending it.
05:48Thanks to Pete for designing it.
05:50I'm not that he designed it for me, but thanks.
05:51Thanks for bringing it into the world.
05:53Obviously.
05:54And can we get a Celtics beat theme Jersey that I guess would be.
05:57For me forever.
05:59What would be, what would be the insignia on the, on the Celtic.
06:02Celtic beat.
06:05Jersey.
06:06Can't just have Celtic beat.
06:07All the hosts.
06:08You could have like Jared Weiss.
06:09You could have me gel.
06:10So Larry Russell.
06:12You have all the hosts of it.
06:13Like somewhere.
06:15Manning probably popped in there for a show or two.
06:17Yeah.
06:19Just a Mount Rushmore, but like with eight people or whatever it would be.
06:23Of hosts.
06:24It's.
06:26I mean, we're on, I, we set it going in.
06:28We're on show five 88.
06:30And as we were saying those words, I started thinking.
06:32We haven't been around that long.
06:33Evan and I we've been here for, I don't know,
06:35since around like two 50 or somewhere.
06:37We're over half.
06:38We did this up for.
06:39For 500.
06:40You and I figured out how long we've been on it for.
06:42And you and I are the longest running tandem of this.
06:45We started in like 20.
06:47Eight.
06:48Teen.
06:49I think.
06:50So it's.
06:51It was the Kyrie where he, he had the knee tendonitis.
06:54So it was.
06:55Great choice guys.
06:56Yeah.
06:58I started thinking to myself, like, man, what,
07:00what would we do for episode a thousand,
07:02but then I stopped thinking about it because, you know,
07:04by then somebody else will be hosting the show anyway.
07:06So it doesn't really, we don't have to worry.
07:08What's going to happen.
07:09500 episodes from now, but.
07:12Guys, let's, let's talk a little bit.
07:15I do want to get into some of that Missoula chat with Corrales because,
07:19you know,
07:20people I'm sure for the limited amount that the Celtics are being
07:23talked about nationally or even locally for that matter over at your
07:26shop or elsewhere, Chris, you know,
07:28people have seen the quotes and,
07:29and the sort of the lightning rod quote is, you know,
07:35actually ironically enough deals with something that we spent a lot of
07:39time talking about with bull pet last week.
07:41It was, I think the first thing that I asked Steve was, you know,
07:44how do you think the Celtics are going to respond to truly having targets
07:48on their backs this year, as opposed to, you know, like, you know,
07:53be like, they, they've always, they've been in the hunt.
07:56They've been taken seriously.
07:57They've been a championship contender,
07:58but they weren't truly like the hunted, the champs,
08:01the ones that people were trying to knock off.
08:03And so we had a nice conversation about that.
08:05Go check it out with bull pet. It's still there in the archives,
08:07but the Missoula stuff, you know, he's like, he's like, I,
08:12I want the target on the forehead. I want to see the red dot.
08:15Like this lunatic, absolute lunatic.
08:18But honestly, that's not even my favorite quote from all of this stuff.
08:22My favorite, like truly interest,
08:26like get to know Joe Missoula kind of quote, and it shouldn't surprise anyone,
08:29but if you missed it is he's corrals asking him about like how he spends his
08:34downtime and what do you do to break away and disconnect and not think about
08:38the Celtics and all of that stuff.
08:40And he talks about how he went to the theater recently with his wife and is
08:44sitting there watching the performers and they're fluctuating going so
08:49quickly from singing to talking, singing to talking.
08:52And he just,
08:53it like gets lost in thought thinking about what their breathing exercises
08:57must be like. And how do you train for that? I mean,
09:00this dude is just on another level all the time.
09:03100%. And I mean, this is, he did,
09:06he told us last year about,
09:07or maybe two years ago about the hostage tape he would sleep with trying to,
09:11you know, not breathe through your mouth or, you know,
09:14like all of the benefits of that and more restful sleep. And look,
09:19every athlete tends to fixate on how to get the best performance out of
09:23themselves.
09:24Joe just takes it to a sort of psychotic new level and in the way that he
09:29approaches it. And yet none of it surprises us. Right.
09:33So when we were out in Vegas,
09:35Tatum was talking about how like the day after they win that when he was in
09:40there signing his contract and Joe's talking about plays that he wants to run
09:43for next season.
09:44And like the whole idea of being a champion and Tatum's like, yo man,
09:48can you just enjoy this for a day, like a week?
09:51And then we'll start talking about next season.
09:54I think we all know by now they've turned the page, but I do like, you know,
09:58if you were worried about,
10:00there's been no repeat champion in the past five. Right.
10:04And if you were worried that the Celtics might not,
10:07might fall into some of those pitfalls, the complacency,
10:10the just having that target wherever it is on your back, between your eyes,
10:14anywhere on the body part,
10:17like this is one team that is sort of built to avoid it from, you know,
10:21Missoula, the way he leads this team.
10:24And then the motivation that Jason and Jalen got this summer.
10:27And so like we were talking this week on,
10:30on our network about like wind totals and people were saying, Oh yeah,
10:33it's definitely gonna come down from 64. And I'm like,
10:35are we sure about that? Like, I'm not saying that's a pretty lofty number,
10:39fourth highest in team history,
10:41but like if a team was built to hit the ground running and to be motivated
10:45coming off the title, this sort of feels like it.
10:49Yeah. What I love, I just love, I just love Joe.
10:52And what I love about Joe Missoula is he's never,
10:57he's never going to say anything is too crazy to think about.
11:00He's always entertaining another way of thinking to try and make the team
11:05better or try and do something better. And that's,
11:08that's a really important part of being a head coach or being a leader of any,
11:13any group of people to try and, you know, okay, let's see if this works.
11:18Okay. I didn't work. Let's see if this works.
11:20And when I get back to Missoula in terms of the way he speaks,
11:23it's like everybody talks about having the target on their back.
11:26And he's like, no, I want to see it. I want to have it on,
11:28I want to have it on my forehead. You know? Like that's,
11:30that's the kind of stuff where I,
11:33I sit back and I laugh a little bit that I'm like, man,
11:35I'm just glad he thinks this way because I don't think a lot of people that
11:40coached in the NBA think about it that way.
11:42I think they think about it differently. And I just,
11:44it's nice to have a thinker that's not part of this group think thing,
11:49that he's a little bit weird and aloof and different,
11:51but it certainly helps to have something like that.
11:54And that's the power for his bird that you get when you win a title,
11:57he's gone from really weird to being a genius because he has that ring on his
12:03finger now.
12:04There are also a lot of people that get kind of fat and happy after winning,
12:07right? You know, players, but coaches most especially,
12:09and he's just not built that way.
12:12And that's the one thing I keep going back to is like the sort of the,
12:15I mean, if you rewound this program a year ago,
12:17what were you talking about? You know, like, oh, okay,
12:20Joe got thrown into a tough situation,
12:21but is he going to be able to win over the court of public opinion? And,
12:26oh, are they bringing in Sam Cassell and Charles Lee to both help guide him,
12:30but also potential safety nets and all that. And, and like,
12:33you blink your eyes and now all of a sudden winning helps.
12:37But I do think we just like,
12:39we got to see the Joe experience on a, on a, on a,
12:41like a full scale last year. And we realized like, it's crazy,
12:46but it works. And most importantly, he got the buy-in from the players.
12:50And so regardless of like how you are and how you approach this,
12:54if you can get that, and if you can deliver your team to the,
12:57to the, to the highest level, then you're going to be embraced and,
13:02you know, look at the first three game losing streak.
13:04We'll we'll complain about something, but they didn't do it last year.
13:08They didn't have a three game losing streak. Right. So maybe we won't.
13:11And I do, I do enjoy sort of, you know,
13:15I've probably said this on your program before.
13:17Like I enjoy when people are just authentic to themselves.
13:20Like there's just this general, like with life,
13:24we all try to maybe fit a mold and, you know,
13:28depending on what you do for work,
13:29you might step outside your normal comfort zone because you feel like you have
13:32to, to be accepted or to like, whatever. Like I'm, I'm going, I think,
13:36I think it can apply to anybody and what they do.
13:39But Joe is just like, I'm going to be myself.
13:41And I want to believe in what I believe in.
13:43I'm going to do my jujitsu training in the five minutes of spare time that I
13:47have. I want to think about how people breathe.
13:51I'm going to embrace the idea when, when most coaches would be like, Oh,
13:54you know, there's no target on our back. Joe's like, no, we love it.
13:57We have it. We're embracing it. And that's just Joe.
14:00And so I think the team is in a really good spot with a coach who just feels
14:04like he can be himself and, you know, not only can be himself, but,
14:08but get the most out of his players.

15:49You obviously are,
15:50you know,
15:51I'm not going to presume that you're close,
15:52but you know,
15:53I'm in a way that we don't know him,
15:54you know,
15:55through media access and,
15:56and attending so many practices,
15:57games,
15:58pressers,
15:59all of that stuff.
16:00You know,
16:01there,
16:02I,
16:03I listened to him.
16:04I see him.
16:05And there's a part of me that worries a little bit,
16:07you know,
16:08that intensity that he has worries a little bit about burnout.
16:10Right.
16:11You know,
16:12it,
16:13it accelerates when you're just so dialed in all the time in
16:15that way.
16:16And certainly whether or not he's ever talked about it,
16:19I don't remember,
16:20but Brad Stevens,
16:21I think was kind of affected by that in the end.
16:23I think that,
16:24you know,
16:25when he moved from head coach to president of basketball
16:27operations,
16:28I think that he was ready for that change.
16:30He was ready to,
16:31you know,
16:32kind of get off the road in the same way and the travel and
16:34the grind that is coaching.
16:36It's a different grind.
16:37He's still in a grind,
16:38but you know,
16:39A grind that allows for more of a work-life balance is
16:41obviously he has discussed.
16:43So I,
16:44I think to myself sometimes like is,
16:45is,
16:46you know,
16:47Joe's a young guy.
16:48He's only been at it for a couple of years.
16:49So we're nowhere close,
16:50but at the same time as burnout,
16:51a factor.
16:52And then Forestberg,
16:53I think of someone like,
16:54you know,
16:55Dan Hurley,
16:56who is a complete and utter psychopath in many similar ways
17:00to Missoula,
17:01honestly.
17:02And if that dude's not getting burnt out anytime soon,
17:05I'm not sure Joe is either.
17:07Yeah.
17:08You know,
17:09I guess the,
17:10the one comp that came to mind where you were talking was like
17:11Tom Thibodeau,
17:12right?
17:13Like doesn't leave the facility is a little bit psychotic in
17:15the way he manages his rotations and playing guys,
17:17all these crazy minutes,
17:18you know,
17:19like you would think there's a shelf life to it.
17:22And that at some point you have to dial it back.
17:24But there are coaches out there who have been super successful
17:27that just,
17:28again,
17:29lean into that lean.
17:30And that's who they are.
17:31And it works.
17:32And we all just need,
17:33they're not going to change.
17:34So we need to embrace it.
17:35And I just feel like that's the way it is with Joe that,
17:37you know,
17:38at first we were kind of waiting for him to,
17:40to tweak all these things.
17:41And,
17:42you know,
17:43there were little things got rid of the gum.
17:44And,
17:45you know,
17:46we hear about the,
17:47the,
17:48the,
17:49the,
17:50the,
17:51the,
17:52the,
17:53the,
17:54the,
17:55the,
17:56the breathing stuff,
17:57but like,
17:58you know,
17:59ultimately he was going to coach the way he does.
18:01And I don't know,
18:02like,
18:03I feel like if he tried to change,
18:04you know,
18:05to still be coaching this team and,
18:06and enjoying the success that he has,
18:07and still wants to do this,
18:08maybe,
18:09maybe he'll,
18:10he'll,
18:11he'll morph into a,
18:12a,
18:13a more gentler approach,
18:14but right now it works.
18:16And so just keep leaning into it,
18:18keep being who you are.
18:20And as long as you bring it home,
18:22Larry O'Brien trophies,
18:23no one's going to quibble.
18:24Well,
18:25to your point about the authenticity too,
18:26that actually reminds me of another thing that he said to Corrales.
18:29Cause John kind of asked him like,
18:31is do you,
18:32would you prefer to be that guy?
18:33And he's,
18:34he essentially said,
18:35he's like,
18:36yeah,
18:37I mean,
18:38like I,
18:39I would,
18:40I would choose to be that guy 95% of the time,
18:41if I could be,
18:42which basically tells you that when he's doing things like that,
18:44like talking to John,
18:45talking to anyone else in the media,
18:46doing these interviews with,
18:47you know,
18:48JJ,
18:49when he had his pod or,
18:50or even just getting up in front of the media and having his back
18:52and forth with,
18:53with,
18:54you know,
18:55Washburn or whoever,
18:56like it's some of that stuff.
18:57I is not painful is not the right word,
18:59but it's just not how he'd like to be spending his time.
19:02Yep.
19:03And like,
19:04I look,
19:05I don't begrudge anyone.
19:06I get it.
19:07It's a chore.
19:08I remember Brad Stevens telling me that,
19:10who was it?
19:11The,
19:12the former Sixers coach from Maine,
19:14whoever's name I'm now.
19:15Yes.
19:16So he,
19:17one year,
19:18he spent tracking how many total minutes he had to be in front of a
19:21microphone.
19:22And Brad was like,
19:23do not,
19:24do not tell me what it is.
19:25Because when you think about,
19:26you know,
19:27some shoot rounds pregame,
19:30post game off day,
19:31Collins,
19:32like it adds up and it's a lot of talking.
19:34And when you're someone like Joe,
19:36who would probably prefer to be either on the court,
19:39working with people or in the film room,
19:41like that can be aggravating.
19:43And so,
19:44I,
19:45you know,
19:46I try to remind myself even that when we are lucky enough to get a
19:49player's time for a little bit,
19:50you know,
19:51I want to respect their time and,
19:53and,
19:54and understand like,
19:55you know,
19:56they don't want to be there most of the time,
19:58to the guys that embrace it.
19:59It's really like,
20:00I'm really appreciative,
20:01but yeah,
20:03like it,
20:04it adds up and I'm sure it's the last thing people want to be doing in
20:08some instances.
20:09It's probably the last thing we want to be doing sometimes during the
20:11summer,
20:12you know,
20:13just yapping on these things.
20:14And that's part of the reason I paused the podcast.
20:15I was like,
20:16people listening,
20:17like,
20:18you know,
20:19I I'm,
20:20I'm flattered if you are,
20:21but there's not a lot going on.
20:22And,
20:23you know,
20:24sometimes you just trying to get manufactured.
20:25So I can see,
20:26I like that again,
20:27I like that.
20:28I like that.
20:29I like that.
20:30I like that.
20:31I like that.
20:32I like that.
20:33I like that.
20:34I like that.
20:35I like that.
20:36I like that.
20:37I like that.
20:38I like that.
20:39I like that.
20:40I like that.
20:41I like that.
20:42I like that.
20:43I like that.
20:44I like that.
20:45I like that.
20:46I like that.
20:47I like that.
20:48I like that.
20:49I like that.
20:50I like that.
20:51I like that.
20:52I like that.
20:53I like that.
20:54I like that.
20:55I like that.
20:56I like that.
20:57I like that.
20:58I like that.
20:59I like that.
21:00I like that.
21:01I like that.
21:02I like that.
21:03I like that.
21:04I like that.
21:05I like that.
21:06I like that.
21:07I like that.
21:08I like that.
21:09I like that.
21:10I like that.
21:11I like that.
21:12I like that.
21:13I like that.
21:14I like that.
21:15I like that.
21:16I like that.
21:17I like that.
21:18I like that.
21:19I like that.
21:20I like that.
21:21I like that.
21:22I like that.
21:23I like that.
21:24I like that.
21:25I like that.
21:26I like that.
21:27I like that.
21:28I like that.
21:29I like that.
21:30I like that.
21:31I like that.
21:32I like that.
21:33I like that.
21:34I like that.
21:35I like that.
21:36I like that.
21:37I like that.
21:38I like that.
21:39I like that.
21:40I like that.
21:41I like that.
21:42I like that.
21:43I like that.
21:44I like that.
21:45I like that.
21:46I like that.
21:47I like that.

21:49I like that.
21:50I like that.

22:17I like that.
22:18I like that.
22:19I like that.
22:20I like that.
22:21I like that.
22:22I like that.
22:23I like that.
22:24I like that.
22:25I like that.
22:26I like that.
22:27I like that.
22:28I like that.
22:29I like that.
22:30I like that.
22:31I like that.
22:32I like that.
22:33I like that.
22:34I like that.
22:35I like that.
22:36I like that.
22:37I like that.
22:38I like that.
22:39I like that.
22:40I like that.
22:41I like that.
22:42I like that.
22:43I like that.
22:44I like that.
22:45I like that.
22:46I like that.
22:47I like that.
22:48I like that.
22:49I like that.
22:50I like that.
22:51I like that.
22:52I like that.
22:53I like that.
22:54I like that.
22:55I like that.
22:56I like that.
22:57I like that.
22:58I like that.
22:59I like that.
23:00I like that.
23:01I like that.
23:02I like that.
23:03I like that.

23:13I like that.
23:14I like that.
23:15I like that.
23:16I like that.
23:17I like that.
23:18I like that.
23:19I like that.
23:20I like that.
23:21I like that.
23:22I like that.
23:23I like that.
23:24I like that.
23:25I like that.
23:26I like that.
23:27I like that.
23:28I like that.
23:29I like that.

23:42I like that.
23:43I like that.
23:44I like that.
23:45I like that.
23:46I like that.
23:47I like that.
23:48I like that.
23:49I like that.
23:50I like that.
23:51I like that.
23:52I like that.
23:53I like that.
23:54I like that.
23:55I like that.
23:56I like that.
23:57I like that.
23:58I like that.
23:59I like that.
24:00I like that.
24:01I like that.
24:02I like that.
24:03I like that.
24:04I like that.
24:05I like that.
24:06I like that.
24:07I like that.
24:08I like that.
24:09I like that.
24:10I like that.
24:11I like that.
24:12I like that.
24:13I like that.
24:14I like that.
24:15I like that.
24:16I like that.
24:17I like that.
24:18I like that.
24:19I like that.
24:20I like that.
24:21I like that.
24:22I like that.
24:23I like that.
24:24I like that.
24:25I like that.
24:26I like that.
24:27I like that.
24:28I like that.
24:29I like that.
24:30I like that.
24:31I like that.
24:32I like that.
24:33I like that.
24:34I like that.
24:35I like that.
24:36I like that.
24:37I like that.
24:38I like that.
24:39I like that.
24:40I like that.
24:41I like that.
24:42I like that.
24:43I like that.
24:44I like that.
24:45I like that.
24:46I like that.
24:47I like that.
24:48I like that.
24:49I like that.
24:50I like that.

25:27I like that.
25:28I like that.
25:29I like that.
25:30I like that.
25:31I like that.
25:32I like that.
25:33I like that.
25:34I like that.
25:35I like that.

25:56I like that.
25:57I like that.
25:58I like that.
25:59I like that.
26:00I like that.
26:01I like that.
26:02I like that.
26:03I like that.
26:04I like that.
26:05I like that.
26:06I like that.

31:05I like that.

31:17I like that.
31:18I like that.
31:19I like that.
31:20I like that.
31:21I like that.
31:22I like that.
31:23I like that.
31:24I like that.
31:25I like that.
31:26I like that.
31:27I like that.
31:28I like that.
31:29I like that.
31:30I like that.
31:31I like that.
31:32I like that.
31:33I like that.
31:35I think in that interview Barkley said that they have two top 10 players and I haven't
31:38heard a lot of people putting putting Jalen Brown in their top 10 conversation but, man,
31:44based on the way he played got two shiny trophies that show how far he's come.
31:48You know he's coming back with something new.
31:49Like maybe that free throw percentage goes up, maybe the three point percentage goes
31:53up, whatever it is.
31:54Maybe it's incremental growth in any of those areas, play making defense, whatever the case
31:58may be.
31:59But yeah, there's a real conversation to be had about the most impactful two-way players in the
32:04league. And I think in that conversation, Jason and Jalen are clearly two of the top 10 players
32:10in the league. Yeah, I find that interesting too, because I don't think anybody that discusses the
32:15NBA on a semi or regular basis would consider Jalen Brown to be top 10. I mean, you know,
32:23Twitter opinion is always interesting. Leave it at that. But like Josh Eberle put together a poll
32:29of like 146,000 votes, and Tatum finished 13th amongst people in the NBA. And I was like,
32:36where are we? Like, what are we doing here? Like, how is this possible? The guy just won
32:40an NBA title. He was like the best guy in the championship team, and he's like the 13th best
32:44player in the NBA. Like, what is going on here? It is interesting too, though. Tatum mentions,
32:50they do see this stuff. And, you know, from three guys that have watched both these guys,
32:57you know, come into their own and become NBA champions. Like, these two guys always work
33:03on something in the offseason. Like, there's never been a question. We haven't sat here,
33:07like, wondering if Ben Simmons is going to come back with a jump shot or not. Like, nope,
33:10these guys put the work in. It shows clearly every single year that they're better at something.
33:17You know, what do they get better at this year? I don't know. We'll find out. But, like, that's,
33:21it's awesome to have two highly motivated guys leading a team that's trying to repeat for the
33:25first time, like, again, for anybody since the Golden State Warriors. So, it's going to be
33:30excellent there. And, you know, to have Barkley say two top ten, I mean, I think we would both
33:34all agree, like, top 15, like, this is not a discussion. But to your point, Forsberg, like,
33:41there aren't too many guys that can impact a game at the level that Jalen can, especially
33:46defensively on the wing like that. That's just, there's not too many guys walking around. Never
33:50mind that. All the new stuff that he shows, he really put it all together this year. And it's
33:54like, it makes you think, with all these workouts in the pool and his new nickname of Aquaman,
33:59like, what does Jalen have in store for us in 2024, 2025?
34:03Jason Momoa going to be sitting courtside during some of these?
34:08Perfect. Right. Something you need to lean into it.
34:11Get him next to, get him next to everybody down there. It'll be fun.
34:15So, before we do wrap up, one, I keep saying, again, nothing happened. No, what,
34:20another thing, I don't know how much, you know, credence you want to put in it, but there
34:26was a story out of EEI this week, Courtney Cox on the Morning Show said that the bidding
34:34for new ownership for the Celtics is down to three. There are three finalists, according to her
34:39report. That is Wynn, that is Jeff Bezos, and that is Fenway Sports Group. You didn't hear me say
34:50Steve Pagliuca. So, I'm curious in, you know, Evan and I, we're, we're not reporters. We react
34:56to this stuff. You, Chris, are, you know, maybe not as much a reporter as you once were because
35:00you're more of a TV personality at this point, but you still report. You still write. You're
35:04still, you still got those journalism bones in you. What do you think of, of, of this report or,
35:10or this, you know, claim, what have you, and what have you heard in your own reporting?
35:15Yeah. Like, I mean, I think there, what's, what's, what's frustrating or maybe not frustrating,
35:18but what's, what's, what's difficult is like, there just hasn't been a lot of
35:22information put out there where it's, it is a little weird to me that two days after the season
35:27ends, they're like, hey, sell the team, you know, like it's been over two days after the parade,
35:31whatever it was, sell the team. And here we are two and a half months later and really hasn't
35:36been much progress presumably besides like Pagliuca saying he'd like to be part of the process.
35:42So yeah, like, I think we're left to, to read some tea leaves. Like Bezos, his name comes up
35:47all the time for obvious reasons. Like he clearly wants to be involved in an NBA market. And yet
35:52like, it feels more likely that that's going to be Seattle 10 way sports group. I just assume
35:57they're going to be in the Vegas bidding, you know, with the LeBron tie and with the, you know,
36:02everything that, that, that goes on there, but also presumably they will be part of any bidding
36:07that goes on out there. And I can say like, I have not heard that there's finalists that, you know
36:16um, but Hey, I, I put it this way. I will tell you one thing I'm intrigued. I think it's so weird
36:23that you win a championship, you bring back pretty much the entire roster. The only thing that might
36:27change is the majority owner of this team might change hands before like midstream here as we get
36:34into the season. Um, and interested to see how that looks. I've started asking, you know, people
36:38in other markets, what that, what's that like? Like, what's it like when Mark Cuban isn't the
36:43focal point anymore and you've got a new owner and you know, what are the benefits to have in
36:48deep pockets versus deep roots? And I think that's going to be a tug of war that we're all going to
36:52play as, as perspective bidders emerge. Um, I don't envy, I guess I do envy the way the gross
37:00back family, because there's a lot of money that'd be made on, on the Boston Celtic sale.
37:04But, um, you know, like, look, they've been good stewards for putting this program, uh, you know,
37:09getting banner 17, getting banner 18. Uh, they, I'm certain they want to leave it in good hands.
37:16And, uh, but also it's a business. So, uh, there's a balance there to be had and I am terribly
37:23intrigued. So like every time I see one of these reports, my, my, my like antenna does go up and
37:28I'm, uh, I'm wondering when we'll hit a little bit of an accelerator on that and how that will play
37:34out. Will it just be like, Oh, this person is, you know, here's the front runner. And like,
37:38this is steam rolling towards a purchase. You know, um, it feels like that's how it's played
37:42out in other markets. Think about Phoenix and you know, how it just all of a sudden it was like,
37:45they've sold and here's the new owner. And so it, it, it could be interesting. It'll be another
37:51storyline that I thought would have more steam this summer, but it looks like it'll just be
37:54another storyline as they sort of launch into this, uh, title defense. Yeah. I'll go back.
38:00So just, I keep going back to Simmons just because normally when he has something like that, it's not,
38:04it's not just smoke here. You know, we have discussed the Bezos part of it. Like he knew
38:09HBO was going to own the suns, I think well before that was formally announced. So like we had the,
38:15the conflicting reports of like Simmons or some guy from some newsletter I've never heard of
38:20before saying that it's a basis out. This, this brings us back to Bayless is in and, you know,
38:26coffin, you and I broke it down. I forget with whom at this point, but like, we're very pro very pro
38:31Bezos crowd just because new arena and put it somewhere and fully invest in this team the way
38:38you'd want someone to invest in this team. And that's brings me to the wind group of, you know,
38:43there was a no, I forget who had it in the Boston globe about the wind group doesn't even own the
38:47land that Encore is on anymore. They sold that. So it would be a little tricky maybe to put a
38:54stadium somewhere that they don't own land for. But I think we're all praying and hoping that
38:58John Henry and Fenway sports group has nothing to do with the Boston Celtics. And I cringe every
39:04time it comes up in discussions. You know, I, I think John Henry is not, is not unaware that
39:13everybody is hoping he doesn't get the team because of the way the Red Sox are right now.
39:17And pretty much anybody that's been a fan of like Liverpool, or I don't know, too many Penguins fans.
39:23And I don't know if they're jaded or not, but I can tell you, there's a whole lot of jaded Red
39:27Sox fans out there. And I am one of the several that are very angry at the direction of this
39:33particular team, but let's just hope it's not going to be him. Cause if it is, I'm going to,
39:39I don't know, I coffin, you might have to find a new coast. I might just have to bail in,
39:42in protest. Wow. We'll, we'll be together. New hosts of Thunder beat here on the CLNS.
39:49Honestly, it might be the best content we ever churn out. Cause I'll just be
39:53like Felger every week. Absolutely. Just roasting this.
39:59I can, I can see that being a possibility, a reminder of how fortunate we have been.
40:03And I've said this, like, you know, look, owning a team there, there's a lot of good
40:06things that go along with it. There's a lot of difficulties that, you know, like
40:10it's a balance, right? You want to be part of the story, but I think this ownership group
40:15in particular has been very good at fading into the background when they need to,
40:19and being hands-off and letting Brad and Danny and all the different coaches through the years
40:25do their thing with the understanding of we're empowering you to lead this thing.
40:30And like with every transition there's, you know, you can say it's going to stay the same,
40:34but there will be things that are different about it. And I think that will be, there could
40:38be some pain points there and just eager to see how that is. And hopefully the next owner
40:43both understands the importance of the Celtics to this region, the way that Wick and Steve do,
40:49and, but also empowers everybody around the team to be who they are and let Joe be crazy and let
40:56Brad be awesome as a GM and let your superstars do the superstar stuff and everything will be fine.
41:03All right. Well, I'm not going to continue to take credit for the calendar because you
41:07already know that the next show is still going to be in September because we do this weekly,
41:10but I can tell you that basketball is, it's approaching. In the meantime, we're all just
41:14going to have to enjoy football, be it pro or college. I don't know how much we can enjoy
41:18the Patriots, but dammit, we're going to try. And who knows, they're probably going to go out
41:22and win week one anyway. Jamar Chase might not play. Tee Higgins is doubtful now. Depending on
41:27when you're listening to this thing, you might be getting ready for the one-and-oh Patriots.
41:31How good would you be feeling about the over then, huh? Chris Forsberg is on Twitter,
41:35at Chris Forsberg with an underscore. Forsberg always appreciate when you hop on with this man
41:40and have been too long. I hope it's been a good summer for you. The grind is not far away,
41:44my friend. Yeah, I know you kept saying like it's not coming fast enough. I'm okay. Like we can take
41:50the next 18 days and hit the slow motion button. Let me grow this hair out a little bit. There's
41:57still golf to be played, Forsberg. There's still plenty of golf to be played. A lot of golf,
42:01a lot of tacos. You get two a days. Get out there in the morning, 18 in the afternoon.
42:06For Forsberg, for Evan Valenti, for Pete Rogers, I am Adam Kaufman. Thanks for being with us. We
42:11will talk to you again next week.
