00:00The Big 3 NBA Podcast is powered by PrizePix and the Game Time app.
00:26Hey everyone, welcome to this episode of The Big 3 NBA Podcast.
00:30As usual, the crew is here, Gary Washburn, A'Tri Blakely, I'm Quanie Lunas, how you two
00:36been?
00:37Look, Gary's team gets some AP votes in football, my crew got some AP votes, and for whatever
00:44reason the Boston College Pigeons are in the top 25, but that ain't gonna last long, Gary.
00:52We know that.
00:53I guess.
00:54All I know is, does Syracuse ever play a game outside that damn dome?
00:58Every time I look, like Syracuse don't play no road games.
01:01They don't play away games.
01:03Look, don't be mad because folks want to come to our crib and catch that L. Don't be mad.
01:09Yeah, yeah.
01:10Georgia Tech, come on from the ATL, we got something for that.
01:13We got y'all.
01:16We rolling.
01:17That's the story he's sticking to.
01:19Exactly.
01:20That's the book that I'm reading right now.
01:22We got our book done, our work done on the road.
01:25That's all right.
01:26We'll see y'all.
01:27We'll see y'all in November.
01:28All right, moving on.
01:29We're talking about books.
01:30Let's talk about Tatum's book.
01:31We mentioned it last week, but it's officially out.
01:36Did you get to read it?
01:37Baby dunks a lot.
01:38It's on Amazon.
01:39It's a picture book.
01:40I'm not going to lie.
01:41When I saw the title and Gary, you kind of know where I'm going with this.
01:46I thought it was so good.
01:47I'm not too young to know that.
01:48It may be a little uncomfortable when that was my first thought, but the book don't go
01:49out makes a lot.
01:50It makes sense.
01:51I'm happy for Tatum that he's doing some things that are clearly different.
01:52I mean, he's, again, this is just another one of those.
01:53I'm more than just a basketball player.
01:54And it may seem like, you know, it's a little bit too much for me, but I don't know.
01:55I don't know.
01:56I don't think we're going to get to read it.
01:57I don't know.
01:58I don't know.
01:59I don't know what it's about.
02:00And I don't know what it's about.
02:01I don't know what it's about.
02:02I don't know.
02:03I'm giving up on it.
02:04I'm giving up on it.
02:17like it's not that big a deal to most folks.
02:19But I mean, this is a book, you know, where he's talking
02:22about some stuff that is very personal
02:24and it means a lot to him.
02:25I mean, we all know how important Deuce is
02:29and just being a basketball father is to Tatum.
02:32And this book kind of, you know, gets into that a little bit,
02:34which I think is just real cool for him to, you know,
02:36kind of open himself up a little bit like that about something
02:40that clearly matters tremendously to him
02:42and just his overall being.
02:46Yeah, I think it's a good thing for him to venture out.
02:49Obviously, the headlines have not been in his favor
02:53since the Olympics in terms of all the controversy.
02:56But for him to pivot, go to China for eight days,
03:00I think Shanghai, and do some promotional stuff
03:03for Jordan, ran there, and then kind of come back
03:06and now promo the book.
03:07And, you know, obviously a couple weeks
03:09for a training camp.
03:10I think it was good for him to get his mind off the Olympics
03:13and to kind of get his mind back on what matters, his family,
03:17and then obviously the Celtics season.
03:19And I think it's just cool for him to bond with his son.
03:24And obviously we know he's got another little one,
03:30you know, that's here.
03:32We don't know a lot about that,
03:33but I think, you know, it's a private situation for him,
03:35but he's become a dad again.
03:38So, you know, and he's embraced that.
03:40And I think, you know, his relationship with Deuce
03:43and kind of keeping Deuce around,
03:45obviously this is, I mean, his career started.
03:48I mean, Deuce was born December of his rookie year, right?
03:51Two months into his NBA career.
03:53So Deuce has been here for the whole ride.
03:55And I think it's awesome for Deuce to be able to start
04:01enjoying and remembering what his dad does.
04:05And he's got plenty of time left.
04:07You know, I think a lot of guys,
04:08and I think I remember Al saying that about his son, Ian.
04:12Now, Horford is like, it's cool to have your son
04:15and your daughter remember what daddy did
04:20and what his career was like,
04:24as opposed to, thank you,
04:27having him born after like later in your career
04:32where you don't remember what daddy did.
04:34Daddy's old, I don't remember, I wasn't around.
04:37Now, I mean, Deuce can almost enjoy his,
04:40almost, you know, remembers.
04:42I'm sure he doesn't remember the early years,
04:43but his whole dad's career.
04:45And I think this is a part of their development
04:47and their growth.
04:48I think Deuce will be seven coming up in December.
04:53So I think it's a great thing.
04:53That's crazy, damn.
04:56I think it's a great thing for Jason to be able to do this
05:00and to embrace fatherhood, you know?
05:04And I think that's the important thing that, you know,
05:07a lot of professional athletes get bad rap.
05:10Sometimes justifiably for not being great fathers
05:12or having a bunch of kids and a bunch of mothers
05:15and all that.
05:16And you hear about, you know, Cam Newton,
05:17since you know what he's doing.
05:19And, you know, you hear those stories and you see that.
05:24But for him, Jason, to be a dedicated dad
05:29is something that's probably the best thing about him.
05:32You know, the best thing that you could, you know,
05:35the best thing you could do is be a dedicated parent
05:38and be a great parent.
05:40And he's an all-star at that.
05:44Absolutely.
05:44So on the topic of books,
05:47we're gonna play a quick game of pick and roll.
05:49And I'm gonna name a type of book, a genre of book,
05:52and you're gonna explain which Celtic
05:55would be most likely to write that genre and why.
05:59Are y'all ready?
06:01Let's go.
06:04Gary, Gary, this requires some advanced level
06:07brain cells go to work, man.
06:09This ain't about like points, rebounds, and assists.
06:11You gotta, this is, this is in your wheelhouse, Gary.
06:13You should be, you should kill me in this.
06:15Yeah, this'll be great.
06:16We'll see, we'll see.
06:17So the first genre is mystery.
06:22Who?
06:23Gary, I'll go first because Gary,
06:26Gary's trying to process this one.
06:28I would say the player that I would put in that category
06:32is Porzingis.
06:34Chris Stapps is a guy who, you look at the talent,
06:39you look at the skills,
06:40and for up until he came to Boston,
06:41there seemed to be something missing,
06:42something just not quite, somewhat mysterious
06:46about why this guy is not one of the top tier players.
06:49And it seemed like the only thing
06:51that he needed to be unlocked, the greatness in him,
06:53was to just be around better players.
06:55I mean, his numbers were incredibly efficient
06:59in the games that he played,
07:00and his impact was undeniable.
07:02And to his credit, he missed some games in the playoffs,
07:05but he was able to, he was big money
07:07when they needed him in the playoffs.
07:10There's certain matchups that they clearly benefited
07:12from his presence, and he showed up for those.
07:14So I would say if we were talking about
07:17who would be the mystery novel-esque on this team,
07:20I would say it's Chris Stapps Porzingis.
07:22Okay.
07:26So who would write a mystery novel on the Celtics?
07:29If there's, let's try this one more time.
07:31Kwani, I'm going to put the cookies
07:33on the bottom shelf for Gary.
07:35If a player, okay, was the subject of a genre of books,
07:41like mystery, who would be the subject?
07:44Who would make a good-
07:45I interpreted it differently.
07:46See, y'all even got this right.
07:47See, you and Kwani-
07:48Because I was thinking the person that would write the book.
07:51They would be writing a book about themself.
07:53Oh, okay.
07:54That's a lot, but okay, we get it.
07:56Huh?
07:57Okay.
07:58Autobiographical mystery.
07:59Autobiographical mystery book.
08:04That's why we can't have nice.
08:05That's why we can't have nice.
08:07This is why everyone can't go to Syracuse.
08:09I know.
08:09This is why everyone can't go to Syracuse.
08:11That was, you didn't see that one coming.
08:13This is-
08:14Would it be Tatum and why he didn't play in the Olympics?
08:16The mystery?
08:17Yeah, that could be one.
08:17That'd be a good one, Kwani.
08:18I would think it'd be,
08:20I think it would be Jalen Brown
08:22because he's just so much about Jalen that we don't know
08:27in terms of just kind of what makes him tick.
08:30Some of the things that motivates him off the floor,
08:35you know, he keeps his personal.
08:38And, you know, as we talked about,
08:40Jason, a very public guy,
08:42you see him at the events.
08:43A private public figure, for sure.
08:45Yeah, you see him at the events,
08:46you see him, you know, and with Jalen,
08:50you know, we're just seeing kind of like his relationship
08:53with, you know-
08:54Kaiser.
08:55Kaiser Gonderzak,
08:56and we're just starting to kind of see Jalen
08:58open up a little bit,
08:59but there's definitely a,
09:02how I put this,
09:03a mystery to Jalen, you know?
09:05And I think he likes it like that, which is fine.
09:07You know, things that we don't know about him off the floor,
09:12he keeps it to himself where he's going.
09:14You know, he documents stuff on social media
09:17and the things like that.
09:18But I think that there's something to Jalen
09:22that the Celtic fans really still don't know yet
09:25and may wanna know and may never ever know.
09:28Just like, I think, kind of a Kevin Garnett.
09:30Like,
09:32you never really saw Kevin publicly in anything.
09:35Kevin was, you know, you never saw him out and about.
09:38And I think Dan Shaughnessy, a great Globe commenter,
09:42said like,
09:43I've never seen a more mysterious six,
09:45seven foot black man in Boston.
09:47Like, you don't see him around.
09:49You don't, you know, he just,
09:51you see him at the arena and he's going,
09:52playing like a maniac,
09:54and then he goes back to his cave
09:56and then you don't see nothing.
09:58So.
09:59That's Jalen's favorite Celt, former Celtic too.
10:01I think there's a level of mystery to Jalen
10:04that I don't know what it said.
10:06I don't think, it's not for us to find out.
10:09It's for us to, him to let us know,
10:11as long as he shows up on every night
10:14to play his favorite game and to play a game he loves
10:17and to give his all and live up to the contract,
10:19which he's doing.
10:21I don't, you know, I don't think it's any of our business.
10:23And I think, you know,
10:25I know that a lot of these guys are so public nowadays
10:28and what they do and every step of the way,
10:30they're posting on social media.
10:32And I think Jalen's great at social media,
10:35but I think his personal life is off the floor.
10:38Some of his endeavors,
10:39we really don't know a lot about until he's there.
10:41Like the whole thing in Oakland with Jason Kidd.
10:43Like, he don't really put that out there.
10:45He just does his thing and keeps it moving.
10:48Well, Lil Wayne did say,
10:49look, real G's move in silence like lasagna.
10:51So.
10:53Y'all know that.
10:54Silence like lasagna?
10:56Real G's.
10:57Kwanee, Kwanee, Kwanee.
10:59Now I gotta hit that.
11:00You don't have to repeat that.
11:02It's like one of the best lines
11:04in the last 10, 50 years from a rap song.
11:07Lil Wayne said.
11:08Real G's move in silence like lasagna?
11:09Yes, real G's move in silence like lasagna.
11:12It must be like a BC Syracuse thing
11:15because we totally understand what that means.
11:16How come lasagna is silent?
11:17Let it marinate.
11:18The G in lasagna is silent.
11:21Oh God.
11:22Real G's move in silence.
11:23People, it could be like a Caribbean thing.
11:26Oh God.
11:27Kwanee, no, Kwanee.
11:28It is a know the music of the moment thing.
11:32No, but I'm adding the context of like,
11:35I was raised to like,
11:36don't tell people your plans before you do it.
11:38Don't bail him out.
11:39You just kinda do it.
11:40Don't bail him out.
11:41Let him drink his fruit punch.
11:42I was giving him more context.
11:44Let him drink his fruit punch in peace.
11:46Don't bail him out on that.
11:47Okay, Gary.
11:48Okay, that was very creative.
11:49The G in Gary is not silent.
11:51That was very creative.
11:52Thank you, thank you.
11:53Lil Wayne.
11:54Thanks Lil Wayne for that one.
11:55Shout out Lil Wayne.
11:57Okay, so next genre is action.
12:00I won't hear it in the Superbowl
12:01cause they ain't appearing in the Superbowl.
12:02Oh wow.
12:03I knew it was gonna go there.
12:05So my audible pause was because I was like,
12:07should I bring this up
12:08or will we spiral into a whole other conversation?
12:10We about to, we about to.
12:12Well, I mean, Gary, since you opened the Pandora's box,
12:15we just gonna go through it.
12:16Lil Wayne, not at the Superbowl.
12:18Are you for or against that?
12:21I'm not mad.
12:23I'm not mad.
12:24I love Kendrick.
12:25I'm not mad, but I would like to see Lil Wayne
12:27at the Superbowl.
12:27I would like to have seen him.
12:28Kendrick is a Lil Wayne fan.
12:30So like, I feel as though maybe he'll ask him
12:33to perform with him anyway.
12:34Yeah.
12:35I don't think he would have,
12:36Lil Wayne would have been able to do a whole,
12:37not that he can't, but like a whole set.
12:40Nah.
12:41Lil Wayne in 2025 is not really culturally relevant
12:44versus Kendrick is right now at the top of his game
12:47and everything.
12:48Yeah, he is.
12:49The other thing too that plays a big part in this
12:51is just money.
12:52I mean, there are people who are paying for time
12:55during halftime and out the course of the Superbowl.
12:59It's much more attractive to say,
13:00hey, Kendrick Lamar is gonna be our halftime show
13:02than Lil Wayne.
13:03Because Lil Wayne, they'd be like, oh wait,
13:05is this 2010, 2015, maybe 2020?
13:09That would have been cool.
13:10Which version?
13:11Yeah.
13:12But this, nah.
13:13I mean, this is Kendrick's time.
13:14I mean, Kendrick right now, he is the,
13:17he is him in the game right now.
13:20No matter what the Drake fans wanna say and think,
13:23Kendrick is running things right now.
13:25Absolutely.
13:26So let me ask this.
13:27So who's the hottest, regardless,
13:28who's, besides Taylor Swift,
13:30who is the hottest current artist out here?
13:33Like the hot right now that they're,
13:35who is the-
13:35Female artists?
13:36Yes.
13:37Male or female?
13:38I'm a big Kehlani fan.
13:40I think I would be,
13:41Tyla might be on, I mean, I don't know if she's the biggest,
13:45but the South African girl that sings water.
13:47Like, I feel like I've just seen her everywhere lately.
13:50Like her team is A1 and she's international.
13:53So that gives her a bigger pull.
13:55I like her and Kehlani.
13:56Those are probably my two.
13:58You know?
13:59Okay.
14:00I ain't barely heard of either of those two.
14:01So obviously there ain't nobody-
14:03You haven't heard After Hours.
14:04You had to have heard After Hours.
14:06I don't know who it is though.
14:07And the thing is-
14:08Oh, you just mean like namesake.
14:09I know Bruno Mars.
14:10I know Drake.
14:11Like there's no artist right now
14:15who is just like, besides Taylor Swift.
14:17Memphis Alliance.
14:19Yeah.
14:20Who is absolutely like the Michael Jackson of the,
14:23like, you know what I'm saying?
14:24Like the Prince.
14:25Oh, well then you're asking for nobody.
14:26There is nobody that would be like,
14:27oh, that's the slam dunk for a Superbowl show.
14:29That's not happening.
14:30Like Usher did it.
14:31They already booked Usher.
14:32That was last year.
14:34Right?
14:35So to me, Kendrick Lamar, that's cool.
14:38Like there just isn't anybody that,
14:41or you want to do a New Orleans thing
14:43where you get juvenile and you want to get-
14:46They don't even always do a local theme.
14:47Little Wayne, Mystical, and all that.
14:50But you want Master P?
14:53Like, you know, you want-
14:54Nah, nah, nah, nah.
14:56You can do that.
14:58You can do that.
14:59And then have him bring Lil' Romeo out.
15:03Who's now Romeo.
15:04He's like 33, 36, you know.
15:07Right.
15:08He used to be Lil' Romeo.
15:10Now he's just not so Lil' Romeo.
15:12That's what his new name is.
15:13We randomly know people's ages
15:14after like not talking about them for years.
15:17Yeah, I just know.
15:18I just know these things.
15:19I just know these things.
15:20I'm good.
15:21I'm very talented.
15:22That's a sector of Gary's brain
15:23that's always like top of the shelf.
15:25Yeah, he's 35.
15:26Like, wow, okay.
15:27There's nobody, he's 35?
15:29Yeah.
15:30Okay.
15:31There's nobody who's like,
15:33oh my God, that person needs to be at the Superbowl.
15:36Like, we just don't have that person right now.
15:38Agreed.
15:39Like Bruno Mars, I would say, right?
15:41Did he perform before?
15:43A few years ago, he did.
15:44Yeah, I mean, he's not even that.
15:45Yeah.
15:46Yeah.
15:47Yeah, he did.
15:48Okay, so we got, he's been booked.
15:49Usher been booked.
15:50Miley Cyrus was talked about.
15:53Who?
15:54Yeah.
15:55Miley Cyrus.
15:57Miley Cyrus.
15:58Don't disrespect my 90s pop star.
16:00I'll take her father for an achy, breaky heart.
16:02Hannah Montana.
16:03Come on, that's a whole-
16:05Achy, breaky heart.
16:08Like, I don't, so, you know, maybe our-
16:10So he know that song,
16:11but he don't know Virgie's, oh, wow.
16:14They did breaky heart.
16:16We gotta send him a list of music to listen to every week.
16:18I just know there just isn't, to me,
16:20and I'm just a general music guy.
16:22I'm more of the old school, like,
16:24God bless, sorry, rest in peace, Frankie Beverly.
16:29Oh, yeah.
16:30I gotta put that out there.
16:32That's a tremendous loss.
16:34I mean, if you, you know, and please,
16:36there was more, thank you, Beverly, than before I let go.
16:39Please listen to more.
16:41If you just only listen to before I let go,
16:43you're not doing him a disservice.
16:45He is, he had many, many, him and his group
16:47had many, many, many hits.
16:49Okay, so more than before I let go.
16:52And if y'all thought that was a Beyonce song,
16:55you should-
16:56Oh, my gosh.
16:57You gotta go review your musical history
16:59if you thought that was an original song by Beyonce,
17:00although Beyonce did a great job with it.
17:02So, there just isn't by the top of the game.
17:06So I'm all with Kendrick Lamar at this point.
17:09That's fine, you know, no diss tracks,
17:12just do good, positive stuff.
17:14I don't wanna hear no pedophiles,
17:15like, let's just move on from that, Kendrick,
17:18be the bigger man.
17:19You know what, Serena Williams,
17:20quit walking on the-
17:21Yeah.
17:22What, what, what, what, I'm, uh, what, what, what, what.
17:25Let's move on from that.
17:26It's good, look.
17:27So that's all I got.
17:28Okay.

18:58All right.
18:59A minor.
19:00With Aaron with us, let's go back
19:01to the originally scheduled program.
19:03The book genre that's up next is action.
19:09Action.
19:10I feel like this would be more fun if it's a movie,
19:11but yeah, that's cool.
19:12Let's do a movie.
19:13Yeah.
19:14It wouldn't be better if it's a movie.
19:15I would say, ooh.
19:18Action?
19:20You know who I would go with this?
19:23I would probably go with Al,
19:25because when Al gets fired up, ooh.
19:28Interesting.
19:30Al.
19:32I like angry Al.
19:34Action Al.
19:35When Al is in that mode where he's just really like, ugh.
19:40Especially when you don't expect that from him.
19:41He's just-
19:42Yes, yes.
19:44I would, yeah.
19:45I would go with action for Al.
19:47I like that.
19:48I like when Al is in that mode.
19:50Makes me think about Master P.
19:52Ugh.
19:53Nah, nah, nah, nah.
19:55Oh my God.
19:56See where Gary started?
19:57What?
19:58Anyway, I'd go with Peyton Pritchard,
20:00because every time he's on the floor,
20:03there's always some action happening.
20:04The half court shot, rebound, put back.
20:09He's showing his toughness.
20:10He's always in the middle of everything.
20:11So like literally, that's my action guy,
20:15because when he gets in the game, it's exciting.
20:18He's trying to make plays.
20:19He's throwing his body out there.
20:20He's hitting threes.
20:22He's muscling up against much bigger players
20:24to get offensive rebound.
20:26He's, whatever it is, he's on the floor.
20:29There's always plenty of action.
20:30So my action guy who would write a good action book
20:33would be Peyton Pritchard.
20:35Okay.
20:36Okay.
20:37We like it, we like it.
20:38Up next, romance.
20:42Oh, that's easy.
20:44Jason Tatum.
20:44Everybody loves Jason Tatum.
20:46And Ella Mai Buddha.
20:48And Buddha.
20:49Oh, I see, yep.
20:51Exactly.
20:52Oh, see, see.
20:53Ella, you can rack up dancers, I got you.
20:58Look, no, Jason Tatum.
21:00I mean, everyone loves Jason Tatum.
21:02And there's a lot to love about Jason Tatum.
21:03When you look at, one, he's got a championship now.
21:06He's got more money than he's ever gonna be able.
21:09He's got multi, multi, multi, dot, dot, dot
21:11generational wealth.
21:12And you just, statistically speaking,
21:14he's on track to be the greatest Celtic ever.
21:17I mean, he's still gotta rack up some more championships,
21:19but statistically speaking, he's gonna be, you know,
21:22among the greats all the time.
21:23And the crazy part is, he's, what, 26 now?
21:26So he's still got, in theory, another decade of balling out.
21:30And I don't think there's any doubt that
21:33at the pace that he's going,
21:35he's going to break and own damn near every record,
21:38offensively speaking, in Celtics lore.
21:41So there's a lot to love when you got a guy that young
21:44making that kind of impact.
21:46Derek White would be a good one.
21:47The way the city fell in love with him.
21:49They did, they did.
21:50They did.
21:51That moment, and the movie changes, the book changes.
21:53And when he cut it all off and came over, came over.
21:57That's true.
21:58That's a good point.
22:00He fell in love with himself and the city followed.
22:03Oh, look at that.
22:04Look at, oh, oh, oh, crying with the lyric.
22:07Okay.
22:08Well, you know, I'm just, I'm just here for it.
22:11Gary's just like, what did I walk in the middle of?
22:15What's yours?
22:16What's yours, Gary?
22:17I'm gonna say Drew Holiday, because.
22:20Drew Holiday gave up, you know,
22:23when his wife had cancer and a tumor and she was pregnant,
22:27he gave up his, he sat out until she was healthy.
22:30He left the New Orleans Pelicans.
22:34And just his whole, like, that whole thing,
22:36that dedication to love, his dedication to his wife,
22:39his family, getting to know Drew, just such a family man.
22:43And it's just like, and not even romance, but just love.
22:46Like you look and see his parents at the game.
22:48You saw his parents at the finals.
22:50I mean, just the, the kind of the family
22:52that you would draw on paper
22:54that you only see on the Brady Bunch or,
22:57cause I don't know no close family shows, you know,
23:01since the Brady Bunch or.
23:03Cosby's?
23:04Yeah, I don't like to mention the Cosby's,
23:06although that's an example, but yeah,
23:08there's been some things off the floor with the Cosby's.
23:10The Hughleys?
23:11The Hughleys.
23:12Bel Air, the spin off of Fresh Prince?
23:15Not the Bel Air's, no, not the, not the,
23:18not the New Banks family.
23:19You don't like the New Banks?
23:20Living single?
23:21Oh, nevermind.
23:22You got anyway.
23:23So I think Drew Holliday is just the man
23:29that gave up his career for a while for his wife.
23:32And you can see them courtside at the games and their kids
23:36and just a lovely family.
23:39And that's why I learned, you know,
23:41didn't know Drew a lot, very much before he got here,
23:44but just learning about his dedication,
23:48his faith, his family,
23:49just he would be a slam dunk for like a romance
23:52or just a love because that's kind of how you do it.
23:55You know, it's the example.
23:58Like I said, Jason's example of a great father,
24:01you know, Drew example of a great family man.
24:05And it's wonderful to see.
24:08I like these.
24:09All right, look at us.
24:12So the final one is academic textbook.
24:16Who?
24:17The brainy one.
24:18Who?
24:19The brainy one.
24:21That's what I would say.
24:23Just because, I mean, that's Jalen.
24:25I mean-
24:26He would write about the education system.
24:28He totally would.
24:29He absolutely would be that guy.
24:31And that's one of the things I've always liked about Jalen.
24:35The fact is that he beats,
24:37he moves to a beat of a drum that only he hears
24:39and he does not give a damn that you can't hear it
24:42because in his mind,
24:43it's just that you're not in tune
24:45with what for him matters most.
24:49You know, I love the fact that he's committed
24:52to certain endeavors and things off the court
24:54that have sustainable long-term value
24:57that go above and beyond anything he does individually
25:00or personally for his own benefit.
25:02And again, it's refreshing to see a guy
25:05in that place and space doing those types of things.
25:08And a lot of that, again, has a lot to do
25:10with just the level of intellect
25:12that he brings to the game
25:14and that he brings to life in general.
25:16You know, I remember vividly conversations
25:19with different scouts about him, you know,
25:21the whole, he might be too smart for the NBA narrative,
25:24which to me, I'm just like, since when do we get
25:27to the point where we don't want to have smart people
25:29in the room?
25:30Since when do we get to the point
25:32where we don't want intelligence to be like
25:34one of your strongest character traits?
25:36I don't know.
25:36If I'm paying you two, $300 million,
25:39I would want you to have a high level of intelligence
25:41so that the decision-making that you make on the court
25:45might translate off the court.
25:46So we're not looking at you in 10, five, 15 years as man.
25:50He made $300 million.
25:52Now he got three cents and two pennies
25:54and a nickel to his name.
25:56You don't want to be that guy.
25:58Jalen, I love the fact that intelligence
26:00is one of his greatest strengths.
26:01And certainly he would be the guy
26:03that would write an academic textbook type.
26:06Yeah, I can only agree.
26:09I can definitely agree with that.
26:10Like I'm on board with that.
26:12I think, you know, there's other very smart guys
26:15on the team too.
26:16Sam Houser, Luke Cornett's a very smart guy.
26:20I mean, that guy will just give you
26:23such thoughtful answers too, so.
26:25He bought the vinyl being in the league for a decade.
26:27That's, that's.
26:28Yeah, he also went to Vanderbilt.
26:30Being your third center.
26:31Vanderbilt, great school.
26:34It's all right.
26:36Okay, now anyway.
26:38It's a good school.
26:40Great school, so yeah.
26:42I mean, to me, I would, not to be so predictive,
26:46I'd give it to Luke Cornett.
26:48Okay.
26:49Okay.
26:49I like it.
26:50Summertime is winding down,
26:52but the college football season will be in full swing

27:27comes to my neck of the woods
27:29and takes on the Boston College Eagles.
27:31There's a great selection of seats

28:10Download Game Time today.
28:11What time is it?
28:13Game Time.
28:14All right, moving on.
28:16That was a really fun segment.
28:18Porzingis, he's looking like he's ready to come back.
28:21He's been working out in Latvia.
28:23When he returns, when, you know,
28:26before we know it, Celtics Media Day will be here,
28:28but specifically for Porzingis,
28:32what's the level of expectation for him?
28:34I expect him to pick up where he left off.
28:36I expect him to be a guy that's gonna go out there
28:38and be very impactful in the minutes that he plays.
28:41That doesn't mean he's gonna get you 20 points
28:42in 20 minutes, but make open shots,
28:45get some rebounds, run the floor a little bit,
28:47do all the things that allowed you to be a difference maker
28:50for the Celtics team and bring banner 18 to Boston.
28:54That's what I expect.
28:54I don't expect him to be this,
28:56I don't expect him to be a 25, 12, and six nines.
28:59That's not who he is, that he's never gonna be that guy.
29:02But he can be a guy that is very impactful
29:04in the limited minutes that he's gonna get.
29:06So I expect to see more of the same from him
29:09when he gets back.
29:11Yeah, I think they'll bring him along slowly.
29:13I think he'll be fine eventually,
29:15but I think they're gonna measure his minutes.
29:19You don't wanna get hurt again.
29:20This is a guy with a history of injuries,
29:22a guy who had a history of leg injuries.
29:25So I don't think they're gonna rush him in.
29:28I think they're gonna play the game of,
29:30we want him as healthy and rested as possible
29:32for the playoffs.
29:33You're gonna, you know, the playoff plan
29:35is gonna be implemented with Chris Datspor-Zingas.
29:38So, you know, him going all out in 43 minutes,
29:41not happening during the regular season.
29:44To me, I think they'll measure his minutes
29:47and they'll bring him along slowly.
29:50And then when he gets back into full form,
29:52which I'm sure they'll think maybe
29:55playing for March and April for the Celtics,
29:58I think they hope he'll be that, you know,
30:00that difference maker because remember, like,
30:03they were able to beat the Mavericks in five games
30:06with Porzingis basically being 50%, you know.
30:10Definitely not near 100% in that series
30:14and didn't play most of the,
30:15obviously most of the playoffs, you know,
30:18because of that ankle injury.
30:20So to me, if you get him healthy and ready to go
30:28along with the team that's already been,
30:30played a full season together
30:31with the new addition of Lonnie Walker
30:34and guys coming, you know, guys getting in form,
30:37I think there's no reason why they shouldn't
30:39have a good chance to repeat.
30:45Okay, and finally on the agenda,
30:47former Celtic Robert William III.
30:51He's in Portland right now,
30:52but there has been a lot of interest in him.
30:55Specifically the New York Knicks is one of the teams
30:57that have been reported to be scouting him out.
31:00So what do you guys think about Time Ward
31:02potentially being in the Big Apple
31:04and what impact would that have on the East?
31:07What you think, Gary?
31:09Well, you know, it's hard to really have a lot
31:12of expectations for Robert because he's not healthy,
31:16but we all know like Portland drafted a center,
31:20Clengman out of UConn and they also have DeAndre Ayton.
31:23So there isn't a lot of room in Portland
31:26for Robert Williams.
31:27He's also in a very economical deal.
31:29I think he's making 13 million a year.
31:31So the trade and the New York Knicks
31:34still have a lot of draft picks.
31:35So if the trailblazers can get, you know,
31:39let's say a low first round pick for Robert Williams,
31:41I'm sure they would, you know,
31:43and take on someone else's contract.
31:44I'm sure they would be ecstatic with that.
31:48And, you know, the Knicks with losing Isaiah Hardenstein
31:51and depending on Mitchell Robinson,
31:54who is not as injury prone as Robert Williams,
31:57but has also had his history with injuries.
32:01I think that brings them another weapon,
32:04but it's tough to see Robert playing anything
32:09more than 50 games in a season.
32:11Like he has not played a full season in his career.
32:15It's hard to see him being a major contributor
32:19for the Knicks.
32:20Like just, you know, because of his injury history,
32:23I think he's got to prove that he can stay healthy.
32:25He's still obviously 26 years old almost.
32:28I think he's going to be 27.
32:32And he's got to prove that he can stay on the floor.
32:36And I don't know if playing in New York under Tibbs,
32:40who pushes his guys hard is the right move
32:45for him or for the Knicks,
32:47because there's going to be a lot demanded
32:48for him playing in New York.
32:50So not sure if that's the best place for him,
32:52but he needs some place to prove
32:54that he can stay on the floor
32:56and let's see if he's healthy.
32:58Yeah, I mean, for him, bad situation for the Knicks,
33:01great, it would be a great addition.
33:03You're talking about a guy who can be
33:06a tremendous difference maker for a team
33:10that is built to be more versatile defensively.
33:12When you look at the guys they've added,
33:14you look at, you know, with Bridges
33:16and obviously the guys that they got there
33:18that they were able to re-sign.
33:19And he feels a void there.
33:21You know, as you mentioned, with Halstead leaving,
33:25they need someone who can man that middle
33:28and give them some production at both ends of the floor,
33:31but most important, can make an impact.
33:33But I don't think it's going to go down
33:36just because I think that Portland will probably get,
33:39I think a better deal elsewhere
33:41because they're going to want something in return.
33:43And the Knicks, I just don't think are willing to part
33:45with the kind of talent that would allow them
33:48to bring him in and lose some talent
33:51and still feel that they're going to be better overall.
33:53Because the point that Gary made
33:55that I think is really the most important part
33:56about any conversation with Robert Williams is his health.
34:00He has shown consistently that he cannot stay on the floor.
34:03And you're a little bit leery of providing actual,
34:08you know, people power, people talent
34:10to the equation of a trade
34:12when you know you're getting a guy back
34:13who's probably not even going to give you half a season.
34:16And so it becomes a little bit complicated in that regard.
34:20Now, if the Knicks are going to front load
34:22with a bunch of picks,
34:23like if the Knicks said,
34:24we'll give you like three first round picks
34:26and maybe one or two protected for him,
34:28hell yeah, you take that deal if you're Portland.
34:31But I don't think New York is willing to give up
34:33those types of assets because again,
34:35Rob is a wild card on any team he plays for.
34:38He's that one guy that if he can strain together
34:41like in the playoffs, 10, 12, 15 straight games
34:44where he's healthy enough to play,
34:45you could in theory win all of them.
34:46If he's able to play 15, 20, 25 minutes a game.
34:50Cause he's that difference.
34:51He's that big a difference maker
34:52in limited quantity of minutes.
34:55But that doesn't happen.
34:57That hasn't happened up to this point.
34:58I don't know if it'll happen going forward.
35:01I wish it did because I would love to see
35:03what a full season of Robert Williams III look like.
35:06I think that's an all-star caliber type player
35:08to be honest with you, if he could play a full season.
35:11But I just don't see it happening.
35:13But the New York Knicks,
35:14they're gonna be one of the teams
35:15that will certainly be inquiring about him
35:17because of the need and because they've got the assets
35:20to pull something like that off in theory.
35:21But I think he absolutely needs to find a place
35:26that is going to not just allow him to play,
35:29but just embrace the fact
35:30that he ain't gonna play 60, 70 games.
35:33He needs to be on a team that is kind of built
35:35where he's like maybe the second or possibly third center.
35:39Boston ain't gonna happen
35:40just because of where they are
35:41with the whole second apron status.
35:43It's just not gonna happen.
35:45But there are enough teams
35:47that have enough flexibility to bring him in
35:49and get something of value out of him.
35:53It's just a matter of just pulling the string
35:55on what's the best situation.
35:56And I hate it because it's another blow to my boy Chauncey.
36:01That team's not gonna be better
36:04by trading Robert Williams away.
36:05And that's the one thing that they need to improve.
36:08Otherwise, my guy ain't gonna be there much longer.
36:11Is there a team you have in mind
36:12for Robert Williams specifically right now?
36:16I don't, I don't.
36:17I just think that with him,
36:18it's not even so much about the team,
36:20but just him staying healthy.
36:22Because no matter where he goes,
36:24he's going to play if he's healthy.
36:26It's just a matter of how much can he play
36:28and how healthy is he going to be after he starts playing?
36:31That's the big issue and concern with Robert Williams,
36:34the third.
36:35The third.
36:38Oh, right.
36:39Yeah, I mean.
36:42You agree?
36:43You know, I just, I wish the best for him and I say it.
36:45I think the best situation is a situation
36:47where there's not a lot of pressure on him
36:49and he can play.
36:50So it would be basically playing for a bad team.
36:52I don't think-
36:53Like Charlotte.
36:54Yeah, I don't think the New York Knicks
36:55or, you know, there's gonna be expectations.
36:58I just don't think that's the right place
36:59at this point in his career.
37:02Especially pairing with Mitchell Robinson,
37:04another guy who has injury history.
37:07Yeah.
37:08That makes sense.
37:09Facts.
37:10Yeah.
37:11Well, that's all we had on the agenda for this week.
37:13Hold up, I wanted to pull up,
37:15the book is out.
37:16It's here.
37:19The book is here.
37:22Boston Celtics, an illustrated timeline.
37:26If you look, history of,
37:29kind of just history of the franchise here.
37:32Oh, it looks nice.
37:33Just all the stuff that's going on.
37:36Can we put it on my-
37:36Yeah, Gary, did you take those black and white
37:38pictures yourself?
37:38Yep, I was there.
37:39Oh, that was good, that was good.
37:42From my friend, Don Nelson.
37:45We'll go forward.
37:47Red.
37:49And then obviously we get into more of the current times
37:53with Jason here and,
37:56you know,
37:57my friend, Terry Rosier, all the way.
38:00My boy, T. Rosier.
38:02Terry, Terry.
38:03All the way, if you're like,
38:03well, does it include the championship?
38:05Well, my friend, Chris Stapps.
38:09And then,
38:12there it is.
38:13The James.
38:14The championship, finally.
38:14Wow.
38:16They grew up so fast.
38:16So it includes all the way until the championship.
38:19Today.
38:21All the way from the beginning in 1946,
38:23when they were the member
38:24of the Basketball Association of America.
38:26All the good things.
38:27The first black starting five,
38:28the drafting of the great Chuck Cooper.
38:32The trade, draft night trade for Bill Russell.
38:35Remember, Bill Russell was not drafted by the Celtics.
38:38He was acquired by the Celtics on draft night
38:41from the St. Louis Hawks.
38:42Those little nuggets.
38:44So if you don't,
38:45are not as familiar with the history of the Celtics
38:48and you're a young fan,
38:49it's a great way to learn about the 50s,
38:51the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, and the 90s.
38:55Some of the tough times are in there too.
38:57The passing Lin Bias, the Reggie Lewis,
38:59some of the down years.
39:02And then the rise back up.
39:05All the way until Banner 18.
39:08So it's on Amazon.
39:09It's called Boston Celtics History Time.
39:13It's a hardcover book.
39:14So high, you know.
39:15Coffee table.
39:16Yeah.
39:17Yeah.
39:18Illustrated timeline.
39:19So hopefully you guys will enjoy it.
39:20And hopefully fans will be able to learn more
39:23about one of the great franchises of all time.
39:26And it's got amazing pictures
39:29of people that you probably haven't seen
39:31or don't remember what they look like.
39:33Or, you know, if you don't have, you know, YouTube
39:35or you're not looking at YouTube
39:36or greats like Jojo White, Sam Jones, Casey Jones,
39:40you know, people that you hear their name.
39:44This book tells you more about them
39:45and how they got to the Celtics
39:47and what their impact on the Celtics was
39:49to continue that franchise tradition.
39:51So hopefully you guys go out there and buy it and enjoy it.
39:55It's something I've put a lot into.
39:56And as I said, I would not give Celtic fans
40:00anything short of my best.
40:03And if you're on September 30th,
40:06that's a Monday at 6.30.
40:08Gary will actually be at WBER's City Space.
40:11That's on Com Ave in Boston.
40:13You can go there.
40:14It's right around the corner from me.
40:155.30.
40:16Sharron's actually buying my ticket with a discount.
40:19He didn't know this.
40:20Did you know this?
40:21You're buying my ticket?
40:22Cool.
40:23But we're going to sit there front row
40:24and watch Gary talk about this book.
40:25So y'all better be there too.
40:28That's right.
40:29Can't wait for you to talk about Dave Vang
40:32and Sherman Duggs and all the great Syracuse players
40:34that spent some time in Boston.
40:35Oh my gosh, we always find the world interesting.
40:37That's what I focused on.
40:38That's what I focused on.
40:39There's actually one chapter that just says seeing orange
40:42and it's all the Celtics players.
40:42Yeah, all of them.
40:43Fab Mello, all the greats.
40:46All the Syracuse greats.
40:47Why you had to bring Fab into this?
40:48God bless for Fab.
40:50But yeah, all the greats.
40:53My man.
40:55All right.
40:55That being said.
