00:01:12Welcome to World Championship Wrestling at its best.

00:01:17And along with Bobby the Brain, he and I am Tony Schiavone.

00:01:20Of course, me, Gene Oakley, with us as well.

00:01:23And as you heard both men already, Hulk Hogan and the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.

00:01:28We never thought we would say this, that Ric Flair comes in,

00:01:32the fan support behind him, the horsemen behind him.

00:01:36But Hulk Hogan has the entire New World Order behind him, Brain.

00:01:40Well, what's very interesting to me is wherever you see Ric Flair,

00:01:43you're gonna see horsemen.

00:01:44Right. And wherever you see Hulk Hogan,

00:01:46you're gonna see the NWO.

00:01:48Now, we know there's two of them.

00:01:50We've heard there's three or four, who knows how many.

00:01:52Hogan's limo's out back, there's security around it.

00:01:55The windows are tinted, you can't see in.

00:01:56We don't know if there's three, four, ten people, or maybe no one's in there.

00:02:00But history's gonna be made, something big is gonna happen here tonight.

00:02:03Something big could happen tonight.

00:02:05As a matter of fact, this past Monday, we were live from Casper, Wyoming,

00:02:09on TNT and WCW Monday Nitro.

00:02:11And we saw the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, and the horsemen help Lex and Sting.

00:02:15To take you back to that footage right now, it was very startling footage.

00:02:18It happened as Lex and Sting had earlier made a challenge

00:02:21to the Outsiders, Hall and Nash.

00:02:23And then, take a look at what happens as we head to tonight's Big Clash of

00:02:27the Champions, let's go to the footage.

00:02:29Scott Hall gets backed up into the corner with a splash from all the way

00:02:34across the ring, man, he moved out of the way.

00:02:38And there's no Luger to help him, there's no Luger to help him right now.

00:02:43It doesn't look good, Luger's on the other side of the ring on his knees,

00:02:46he's starting to get up now.

00:02:47Stinger kicked to the floor like a pile of trash, and here's Arne Anderson.

00:02:52Arne Anderson coming out, clearly they saw Nick Patrick evidently throwing his

00:02:57hands up and letting anything happen in the ring.

00:02:59The horsemen come out, and what is going on?

00:03:11They have taken off into the crowd.

00:03:12I can see the tops of their heads going through the sea of people.

00:03:29Think what you're seeing, the horsemen have come to the aid of Luger and Sting.

00:04:05Ladies and gentlemen, the opening contest of The Clash of the Champions is a special

00:04:10rematch for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.

00:04:14Introducing first, the challenger from Tampa, Florida,

00:04:17the man of 1,000 holds, Dean Malenko.

00:04:22Dean Malenko making his way to the ring in the opening bout.

00:04:27We have nine matches for you tonight live here from Denver.

00:04:31Three titles will be decided.

00:04:33The World Heavyweight Championship, a triangle match to the top of the world.

00:04:37Tag team title.

00:04:38And this, the Cruiserweight Championship of the world,

00:04:40Dean Malenko against Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:04:47And we welcome to our broadcast location here Mike Tenet,

00:04:51who has been following closely the careers of the superstars from Mexico.

00:04:56And Mike, welcome to our broadcast location.

00:04:58Tony, what a great way to kick off The Clash with a title bout in this

00:05:02non-stop action cruiserweight division, featuring the man of 1,000 holds,

00:05:06Dean Malenko against Rey Mysterio Jr.,

00:05:09the human highlight film of professional wrestling.

00:05:12And it's so nice to have Mike Tenet with us, the man of 2,000 words.

00:05:16The WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:05:23Rey Mysterio Jr., you're right, Mike, by calling him a human highlight film.

00:05:27But whoever thought that Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:05:31would have the success that he has had in this span?

00:05:36I mean, it didn't take long for him to come in here and become a champion.

00:05:40Tony, in a very short, yet very successful stay in WCW,

00:05:43already has quite a history with Malenko, who attacks him before the bell.

00:05:47Well, Malenko is aware of what you have to do.

00:05:49I mean, Malenko, former cruiserweight champion.

00:05:54Am I right, Mr. Tenet?

00:05:55Absolutely.

00:05:56Thank you very much.

00:05:58I always check with him to see if you're right.

00:06:00You have to do that.

00:06:01Here's the whip in.

00:06:02Look at this.

00:06:03The agility that's Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:06:04And he's just a little bit too quick for Malenko.

00:06:07And that's a smart move, staying in the ring.

00:06:08Well, it was in his World Championship Wrestling debut

00:06:11that Mysterio challenged the then cruiserweight champion Malenko

00:06:14back at the Great American Bash.

00:06:16Despite losing to him, that's a great drop kick by Rey Jr.

00:06:20Now he's going to spring off the ropes into that baseball slide-type move.

00:06:24And a Frankensteiner hudakon run on the floor.

00:06:27Tremendous room.

00:06:28And this is actually, you go back and you count them up.

00:06:31This is the fourth meeting between the two men.

00:06:34And the third happened recently on WCW Pro Wrestling.

00:06:40That's every Saturday morning at 9 o'clock Eastern time,

00:06:43just a couple of weeks ago.

00:06:44And of course, Mysterio holds on to that cruiserweight championship.

00:06:47Certainly has proven to be an active champion,

00:06:49title defenses against international stars like the Dragon, Ultimo

00:06:53Dragon, Psychosis.

00:06:54Of course, Malenko.

00:06:55And counting those two title bouts with Dragon,

00:06:58his fourth championship match in six days.

00:07:01Leapfrog.

00:07:02Just dives over the top that time.

00:07:03Mysterio tried to shoulder block.

00:07:05That's stunned.

00:07:05Malenko.

00:07:06Yo!

00:07:07Springboard, middle rope, one, two, and no.

00:07:09Malenko got out.

00:07:11Great backspin wheel kick by Mysterio.

00:07:13And Malenko goes outside for the safety of the floor.

00:07:16But it may not be safe.

00:07:18Never is with Mysterio around.

00:07:19Yeah, but he's not done yet.

00:07:20He'll come off that top rope.

00:07:22He'll go under the ring.

00:07:22He may come out of the balcony.

00:07:24Sit around and watch this guy.

00:07:26And remember, he can hit that Frankensteiner,

00:07:28that Hurakanrana type move, as they call it in Mexico,

00:07:30from just about anywhere in the ring.

00:07:32Or as you mentioned, Rain, even on the floor if necessary.

00:07:35It's easy for you to say.

00:07:36Malenko doing the right thing.

00:07:37Malenko just charging like a pit bull right after him.

00:07:40And a drop toehold, putting him down to the mat.

00:07:42A little show off that time from Rain Mysterio Jr.

00:07:45Obviously, Mysterio realizes how determined this former champion

00:07:49Malenko is getting the title back.

00:07:50And a lot of times, that is the determining factor in winning.

00:07:54What a tremendous move that was.

00:07:56Wow, using the top rope almost as a clothesline type move.

00:08:00And neck first right across the steel cable.

00:08:02I'll tell you something about Malenko.

00:08:03And notice this.

00:08:04He's always in command of the situation.

00:08:06Right, Shivani?

00:08:06Right, Tanay?

00:08:07He always knows.

00:08:08He's always focused.

00:08:09But here, with this man, Rain Mysterio Jr.,

00:08:11it seems like he's bewildered.

00:08:13Like the man is really confusing him.

00:08:16Here's a pick up.

00:08:17May try to snap suplex him down.

00:08:18No, he holds.

00:08:18You know, it could be a brain buster here coming.

00:08:20And that's it.

00:08:21He jumped up in the air that time with a brain buster.

00:08:23That could be all.

00:08:24Malenko covers one, two.

00:08:25And how did Mysterio get out of that one?

00:08:28Well, we've seen an amazing combination

00:08:29of speed, reflexes, and reactions

00:08:31that Mysterio brings to the ring.

00:08:33I think he thinks on his feet and reacts quicker

00:08:36than any 21-year-old ever in this sport.

00:08:39Up on the middle rope.

00:08:40Using up on top.

00:08:42Slides down the back.

00:08:43Malenko lost his balance.

00:08:44He missed that time.

00:08:47Packages him up.

00:08:48One, two, and no.

00:08:50Do not discount the ground game of Mysterio.

00:08:53Obviously, you think going in, Malenko

00:08:55is going to employ a superior mat technique

00:08:56to try and wear him down.

00:08:58But don't sell Ray Mysterio Jr. Short on the mat.

00:09:01And don't sell Dean Malenko short either.

00:09:03This man, well, is a man of 1,000 holes.

00:09:05And he's being modest about that.

00:09:07And he's got to keep him grounded.

00:09:08Don't sell Malenko short either when it comes to high risk

00:09:10offense on his part.

00:09:11Smart move here, though, on the part of Dean Malenko,

00:09:14as you're right to ground Ray Jr.

00:09:16It has been quite an entourage of top superstars

00:09:20from Mexico coming into world championship wrestling

00:09:22and making their mark.

00:09:23Ray Mysterio Jr., Conan, former US champ.

00:09:26He's still the Mexican heavyweight champion.

00:09:28We'll see him against the Ultimo Dragon

00:09:29later on in this telecast.

00:09:31Plus, Psykos has made an impact.

00:09:33And I'm sure that has just really taken them from Mexico

00:09:36and made them world stars, Mike.

00:09:38Absolutely has.

00:09:39That's the entire thing when they come to WCW.

00:09:41It's that breakthrough.

00:09:42Makes them international stars, adding to reputations

00:09:45they've already acquired in Japan and Mexico.

00:11:05And it was apparent to me, and we

00:11:07talked about what happened this past Monday at Nitro,

00:11:09that Nick Patrick, oh my god!

00:11:14Great move by Mysterio, springing

00:11:15into that body scissors.

00:11:16Inverted DDT attempt here.

00:11:19Broken up, and Mysterio goes to a waist lock.

00:11:21Maybe a German suplex.

00:11:24Leaps over, rolls back with the bridge.

00:11:26Got a two count that time out of it.

00:11:28Mysterio, very disappointed.

00:11:30Those were some startling moves.

00:11:31And speaking of startling, it appeared to me, Mike,

00:11:34you were watching as well as everyone nationwide,

00:11:36Nick Patrick looked like to me he pulled Hall out of the way

00:11:40during that tag team match.

00:11:41A lot of questions need to be answered

00:11:42on the part of the New World Order.

00:11:44Specifically, I think tonight, we

00:11:46need to find out just exactly what

00:11:48Nick Patrick's position is.

00:11:49No question.

00:11:50Grapevine's a leg now.

00:11:52You know, I watched Nick Patrick, the referee,

00:11:54and it appeared to me as maybe Hall's arm was pushing it,

00:11:58Patrick, and he pulled his arm out of the way.

00:12:01But the more and more I look at it,

00:12:03it looks like Nick Patrick double-crossed everyone.

00:12:05Hopefully, we will get to the bottom of this.

00:12:08And if that is truly the case, then obviously,

00:12:12the New World Order has a lot of influence around this sport

00:12:15more than just attacking people from behind.

00:12:18They can get at anyone, apparently.

00:12:20And well, we're still not sure.

00:12:32As we are watching the Cruiserweight Championship,

00:12:35Dean Malenko and Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:12:38The ground attack going right now for Malenko.

00:12:40Malenko obviously has the power advantage.

00:12:43And that power, Malenko almost had Mysterio airborne

00:12:47there moments ago.

00:12:48He's just dominated this match-up.

00:12:50Malenko has, throws him into the air,

00:12:52just absolutely threw Rey Jr. away.

00:12:54You have to give Mysterio credit

00:12:55for being a fighting champion.

00:12:57But the competition in this Cruiserweight division

00:12:59is so tough, counting his matches in the States,

00:13:01his tours of Japan.

00:13:02He wrestles in Mexico every week.

00:13:04That old cliche, on any given night,

00:13:06certainly applies here, I think.

00:13:08Well, you know, the altitude here, it's a mile high city.

00:13:10That's why they hit so many balls out of here

00:13:12over Cruz Field, not because they're good baseball players

00:13:14or anything like that.

00:13:15And that's why Rey Mysterio Jr. went so high in the air.

00:13:18It's the altitude.

00:13:19The air is thin.

00:13:20Is that it, huh?

00:13:21The air is thin.

00:13:22No question.

00:13:22Like Oakland's hair.

00:13:23And, well, there's a difference between being thin

00:13:26and none at all.

00:13:43Oh, there's a tremendous move by Mysterio that time.

00:14:13He's using moonsault off the steel guardrail.

00:14:23Every time we see Rey Mysterio Jr. wrestle,

00:14:26we see something new, something different,

00:14:28something revolutionary.

00:14:29And he's up on top again.

00:14:31Mysterio, the double dropkick from the top.

00:14:33Great springboard dropkick on the button and the cover.

00:14:36One, two, and no.

00:14:38I've never seen Dean Malenko more frustrated in my life.

00:14:41He usually is in command.

00:14:42I would say, what, 85, 90% of the match?

00:14:45He is totally frustrated with this Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:14:48Look at that.

00:14:50Again, Rey Mysterio had a two count.

00:14:52One more time.

00:14:53He's gonna use the springboard one more time.

00:18:35The Macho Man, Monday night, only four days ago,

00:18:38had to have stitches in the back of his head

00:18:40because of that chair.

00:18:41Hogan has attacked the Booty Man.

00:18:43He's blatantly attacked the Macho Man.

00:18:45And Hogan's threats are not idle words

00:18:48when he says, if I'll do this to my friends,

00:18:51what will I do to someone like Ric Flair?

00:18:53Because Flair and Hogan have had their go around.

00:20:21As a matter of fact, it wasn't too long ago

00:20:23V.K. Wallstreet had lifted off that two by four

00:20:26and kept it in his possession for quite a while,

00:20:29but now it's firmly back in the grasp

00:20:31of the big guy from Glen Falls, New York.

00:20:34And you heard what he had to say about Hogan.

00:20:36He can't stand him.

00:20:37And he was one of Hogan's better friends.

00:20:39Yes, he was.

00:20:40And Hogan made him sick.

00:20:42Hogan has disgust the entire world.

00:20:44He has alienated millions of people,

00:20:47of youngsters, of adults,

00:20:49of people who would call themselves Hulkamaniacs.

00:27:46but the man he's facing, the Sonny Uno,

00:27:51Hulk Wild from Sturgis this past Saturday saw this man.

00:27:55It's our first chance for our fans on TBS,

00:27:57and he is a sensation himself.

00:28:00First ever head-to-head matchup

00:28:01between these two great international talents,

00:28:04but both men very familiar with each other

00:28:06by virtue of teaming together on many occasions

00:28:09in tag matches down in Mexico.

00:28:11I think right now we have seen that Konnan's demeanor,

00:28:14both in and out of the ring,

00:28:15seems to have changed since losing the United States title.

00:28:19I know a lot of people were disappointed

00:28:21that he took some shortcuts

00:28:22against young Chavo Ferrero Jr.

00:28:24last Saturday in Sturgis, South Dakota.

00:28:26Tony, I think the loss of the U.S. belt

00:28:29still bothers Konnan.

00:28:30Looks like he's willing to do just about anything

00:28:32to regain that championship.

00:28:37Still the Mexican heavyweight champion,

00:28:38Konnan and the Ultima Dragon.

00:28:40There's Nick Patrick,

00:28:42the referee in his first bout here

00:28:44at the Clash of the Champions.

00:28:49This should be a tremendous matchup.

00:28:51As we said, the superstars,

00:28:53the young men from the AAA promotion,

00:28:55the young men from Mexico,

00:28:58making quite an impact on world championship wrestling,

00:29:00and here's the Ultima Dragon.

00:29:02The saga of the Ultima Dragon

00:29:03and how he's attained success in pro wrestling,

00:29:06very interesting.

00:29:07Attending training camp in the Orient

00:29:08with the New Japan organization,

00:29:10but amazingly enough,

00:29:11they deemed him not good enough to make the grade.

00:29:13He set out on his own for Mexico City.

00:29:15He became such a hot property,

00:29:16the Japanese promotions begged him to return.

00:29:20Why does he hide his kisser?

00:29:23Part of that great legend,

00:29:24when he went down to Mexico,

00:29:26he has wrestled without his mask in the past,

00:29:28but of course, since he went down to Mexico,

00:29:30picked up that part of the culture down in Mexico,

00:29:32that of wearing the masks like Rey Mysterio Jr.,

00:29:34Psychosis, so many of the great AAA stars.

00:29:37The list of world's championships

00:29:38the Dragon has won in various weight classes

00:29:41is just endless.

00:29:42I think among his biggest accomplishments

00:29:44are the incredible moves

00:29:45that he's popularized internationally,

00:29:47most well-known of which, the Acai Moonsault,

00:29:49where he will spring off the ropes

00:29:51into a moonsault on the floor.

00:29:54And you're seeing Konnan wasting no time

00:29:56with high-impact blows.

00:29:57He ties him up here.

00:30:00What is he doing?

00:30:03He's gonna bail him someplace.

00:30:04I think he is.

00:30:05He's wrapped him up.

00:30:06He's gonna ship him out.

00:30:07Almost a variation of a death lock here,

00:30:10and sitting back on the back of Ultimo Dragon,

00:30:13as well, applying pressure to the back.

00:30:32Konnan has always had such an even,

00:30:36pleasant demeanor to be around

00:30:37when he's not in the ring,

00:30:39and he's not even like that anymore outside of the ring.

00:30:42and he talked about Hulk Hogan,

00:30:44and the way Hulk Hogan has turned,

00:30:45and how that has really influenced what he is doing.

00:30:49And there's the brains of the outfit, Mr. Sonny Ono.

00:30:53it's probably the money of the outfit, as well.

00:30:55Man has a lot of money.

00:30:56Yes, he does.

00:30:57You should know that as well as anyone.

00:32:18in using the trunks to pin Ultimo Dragon.

00:36:40First of all, he hit him right across the back.

00:36:44That cut him open right there.

00:36:45That had to stick there.

00:36:49And, you know, as we take another look at what happened,

00:36:52and how it just rocked the head of the Macho Man,

00:36:54we were all kind of stunned.

00:36:57And you even brought the fact

00:36:58that he had hit the Macho Man, he attacked him,

00:37:00but did not touch the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.

00:37:02Why was that?

00:37:03He wanted Ric Flair tonight,

00:37:04and he's gonna get him 100%.

00:37:05Well, it may go down in the record book

00:37:07as Ming defeating Savage, but we all know it.

00:37:10Hogan's the one that cost Savage the match.

00:38:33and then, of course, things like Thunder in Paradise.
