00:00:50Maybe the answer tonight, as we come to you live on Nitro.

00:01:36I am Gene Oakerlin, along with Tony Schiavone, the living legend, Larry Sabisco,

00:01:42Today, all of us gathered here at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis.
00:01:47And this crowd is absolutely wild.
00:01:49After what you saw moments ago, I want to bring out
00:01:52a man who apparently is here in World Championship Wrestling.
00:01:56Please welcome to the Southland, Kurt Hennig.
00:01:59Hey, Elvis is not in the new world order.
00:02:16Kurt Hennig, it may have been a coincidence
00:02:20when you were in Las Vegas last week, because I know you like action.
00:02:23But I don't think it's a coincidence that you're here in Memphis, Tennessee.
00:02:28What do you think I came to Memphis, Tennessee
00:02:30for, to find out what the Klampots are doing?
00:02:32What kind of question is that, Gene?
00:02:34I want to know whether or not you're here on behalf of somebody,
00:02:38if you're here to be part of World Championship Wrestling.
00:02:41Well, Gene, it's obvious to everybody, and everybody
00:02:44knows that I'm the greatest athlete, the greatest wrestler
00:02:48that the state of Minnesota and the whole world has ever seen.
00:02:51And I am here in World Championship Wrestling,
00:02:54and I have my reasons for being here.
00:02:57OK, well, I think I'm going to delve into that just a little bit further.
00:02:59We've got the Bash at the Beach coming up live on pay-per-view
00:03:03next Sunday from Daytona Beach, Florida.
00:03:06There's a lot of talk right now about you're perhaps collaborating
00:03:10with somebody for that event.
00:03:11Well, I'm not going to let you in on anything, Gene.
00:03:13I will tell you this much.
00:03:15I will be at Bash at the Beach, and I won't be sitting in the crowd.
00:03:20I will be participating in some way, shape, or form.
00:03:23Wait a minute, that could only mean one thing.
00:03:25And I've known you since you were a small child, Kurt Hennig.
00:03:28That could only mean one thing in my estimation,
00:03:31that you're going to team up with Diamond Dallas Page
00:03:33to beat the Macho Man and your old friend, Scott Hall.

00:04:57offers Kurt Hennig a position, I guess, with the four horsemen, Larry Zabisco.
00:05:02Well, Kurt Hennig made his answer clear.
00:05:04He didn't commit to anything.
00:05:07I mean, we don't know if he's with WCW or not.
00:05:10He said himself he's a free agent.
00:05:11He'll be at Bash at the Beach.
00:05:13The question is, will he be Diamond Dallas Page's mystery partner?
00:05:17Will he be with the New World Order?
00:05:19He's got some connections there, Tony.
00:05:21Frankly, I don't know what to tell you.
00:05:23Well, Mike, today he did say he would be at the Bash at the Beach.
00:05:26This coming Sunday, the 13th of July, when we come to you from Daytona Beach.
00:05:31And as we head into this big event, all around the world,
00:05:35everywhere you look, Mike, today, people are talking about the main event tag team
00:05:41where Dennis Rodman and Hollywood Hulk Hogan will meet the Giant and Lex Luger.
00:05:45There are so many issues this Sunday, Bash at the Beach 97.
00:05:49It's been talked about on wrestling hotlines.
00:05:51It's all over the internet.
00:05:53Dennis Rodman in his pro wrestling debut,
00:05:56teaming with Hollywood Hulk Hogan against Lex Luger and the Giant.
00:05:59And who is the mystery partner of Diamond Dallas Page?
00:06:03Kurt Hennig said that he will be participating in some way on Sunday.
00:06:07He has to be the most valuable free agent in the history of pro wrestling.
00:06:10And it looked like the Nature Boy was on a recruiting mission.
00:06:14It appeared that way as well.
00:06:15Sister Sherry brings out Harlem Heat in the opening bout here in this two-hour
00:06:19edition of WCW Monday Nitro, as we head to Bash at the Beach,
00:06:25as we head to one of the biggest events in the history of our sport.
00:06:29Think about it like this, gentlemen, as Booker T and Stevie Ray make their way
00:06:33to the ring, Dennis Rodman, movie star Dennis Rodman,
00:06:37has this book that came out saying, bad as I want to be.
00:06:42And throughout his year as a professional athlete, throughout his career,
00:06:46there have been people literally standing in line,
00:06:49wanting to smack Dennis Rodman in the mouth.
00:06:51The Giant and Lex Luger are going to get that chance,
00:06:53and more coming up this coming Sunday.
00:06:56For the Giant and Lex Luger, they've had title matches.
00:06:59They've had tag team bouts.
00:07:01They've been involved in World War III.
00:07:03But the chance to get in the ring and to confront physically Dennis Rodman
00:07:07has to be one of the biggest moments in their career.
00:07:10And I think on the same hand, we have Dennis Rodman
00:07:13able to go into a wrestling match with no restrictions,
00:07:16not worrying about any fines that might be levied on him.
00:07:19Larry, I want to get your viewpoint on this.
00:07:21Is it going to be a positive for Dennis Rodman
00:07:24that he has never wrestled before, and that Lex Luger and the Giant
00:07:27would not be able to scout him?
00:07:29Or will his lack of experience in the ring
00:07:31be a problem for the new world order?
00:07:33Answer is obvious.
00:07:34If you never wrestled and get in the ring, you're in big trouble.
00:07:38It's like anything else.
00:07:39If you never typed and sat in front of a typewriter, how would you type?
00:07:42You don't know, which tends me to think Hogan is up to something.
00:07:47He knows Rodman's limitations.
00:07:49Well, I think Rodman brings to the dance, so to speak,
00:07:53if I can use that cliche, is that he is a fighter.
00:07:55He is one of the most bizarre, controversial athletes
00:07:58the sports world has ever seen.
00:08:00And he'll be in the ring in the main event coming up this Sunday
00:08:03as we start off here with great tag team action.
00:08:06And I tell you right now, Harlem Heat and Public Enemy,
00:08:09both teams have something to prove.
00:08:11The Steiners have proved they're the number one contender.
00:08:13But this match, very important, Mike, today.
00:08:16It certainly is.
00:08:16Both of these teams are former world tag team champions.
00:08:20Both know that the Steiner brothers have to face the Great Muda and Masa
00:08:24Chono, that international duo representing the new world
00:08:27order from Japan.
00:08:29This Sunday at Bash at the Beach, this is a big opportunity
00:08:32for both the Harlem Heat and the Public Enemy
00:08:34to move up into, let's say, that number two slot contending
00:08:37teams behind the Steiner brothers.
00:08:39And this is a return match from WCW Saturday night
00:08:42where Vincent of the NWO came out and caused the disqualification,
00:08:46giving Public Enemy a win.
00:08:49Johnny Grunge in the corner to the midsection.
00:08:51Here he goes, hit of steam, to the big man with a swinging neck breaker.

00:08:59Couldn't hold Booker down last night on the pro.
00:09:01Public Enemy, again, had a tough match against High Voltage.
00:09:05This is the third night in a row for these guys.
00:09:07The Harlem Heat is tough.
00:09:09Public Enemy is going to have to really use tag team expertise here
00:09:13to combat the physical conditioning of the Harlem Heat.
00:09:16They also brought out that table, fans, as you've seen.
00:09:19They've used that table so many times here.
00:09:22Pounding away now on the arm of Booker T looking out for Stevie Ray.
00:09:27As Rocco Rock turned his back on his opponent.
00:09:30It's a critical mistake now.
00:09:32Booker T gets the advantage, and here's the exchange.
00:09:34Coming up this coming Sunday, when Hollywood Hulk Hogan and The Worm,
00:09:39or as they call him now in the NWO, Rod the Bod,
00:09:42Dennis Rodman, team up against The Giant and Lex Luger.
00:09:45You know, we saw Mike right at the top of the program.
00:09:47The last time we saw Luger and The Giant at the hands of the NWO,
00:09:51they were face down.
00:09:52I know they're looking at payback from last week.
00:09:54But Luger remembers things that Rodman has done to him even before that.
00:09:59Well, they certainly do.
00:10:00They remember the spray painting by Dennis Rodman.
00:10:03Lex Luger and The Giant have a lot to prove this Sunday.
00:10:06They get that opportunity at Bash at the Beach.
00:10:09Rod the Bod, how can you say that when the guy goes home,
00:10:12he doesn't even have to open the door.
00:10:14He just walks through the keyhole.
00:10:15There's a foot to the face that time by the big guy of Harlem Heat, Stevie Ray.
00:10:21Well, fans, we do understand that in this program a little bit later on,
00:10:25the Steiners will face members of the Horsemen.
00:10:27That is later on in this two-hour live edition of WCW Monday Nitro.
00:10:32And Mark Bagwell, or Buff Bagwell, if you will, and Scott Norton of the NWO
00:10:36will face Eddie and Chavo Guerrero Jr. in a tag team match.
00:10:41That is still to come later on.
00:10:42Here's a cover, one, two, and elbow.
00:10:46Saved by Grunge, and this is the kind of tag team
00:10:48these guys are going to have to utilize so they don't get beat by the Heat.
00:10:51Lucky break there, makes the tag.
00:10:53Johnny Grunge will be the new man back in as Booker T is just getting up.
00:10:57Grunge hit him with a running lariat, though,
00:10:59but only could back him up with the ropes.
00:11:01And Mickey J checking in and warning the double team now,
00:11:04as this is what makes great tag teams.
00:11:07Double teaming, usually when you have evenly matched tag teams, Mike,
00:11:11the team that does the best and most double teaming will prevail.
00:11:14And we've seen that the public enemy in recent weeks
00:11:17have announced that they're taking a more serious approach to pro wrestling.
00:11:20And it looks like they have their game faces on with a double team
00:11:23tactic and a double lariat.
00:11:25How about that double lariat that time?
00:11:27Booker T exploding out of the corner.
00:11:29Hey, hey, hey.
00:11:30Here he comes again.
00:11:31Vincent got involved Saturday night in the end of their match.
00:11:35He caused the disqualification.
00:11:36Sherry's up on the ring apron.
00:11:38Sherry's holding him back.
00:11:39That's the point of Vincent.
00:11:41They were going for the Big Apple, I think, and there she held back Booker T.
00:11:47As she held him back, he leaves Stevie Ray alone.
00:11:51Stevie got him.
00:11:53He knocked them both down.
00:11:54And now Vincent and Booker T really chases him away.
00:12:00And now apparently making his way back to the ring.
00:12:02But they were in the midst of one of their primary moves,
00:12:05their primary weapons, the Big Apple.
00:12:07And Sherry, she pushed Rock O'Rock in.
00:12:10That's one, two, and Sherry's got him.
00:12:15Wow, what an upset to open Nitro.
00:12:17And it's just as Sherry pushed him in the wrong direction.
00:12:21She shoved Booker T out.
00:12:23And I can only wonder if she did it on purpose.
00:12:25We've got an argument here.
00:12:27Yeah, there's finger pointing going on between the Heat and Sherry.
00:12:30I think she saw Vincent coming down and pointed to him.
00:12:33But then she shoved the man off the wrong direction here.
00:12:37Well, I mean, she shoved the man right into her own man.
00:12:41And really, if you think about what happened Saturday night,
00:12:44she was right in trying to stop Vincent before he got to the ring.
00:12:47All right, Gene Oakerlin is in the ring, and he'll be talking to them.
00:12:50But now it's time for a Valvoline replay, Larry.

00:12:55She points over, sees Vincent coming.
00:12:57That basically kind of caused a distraction.

00:16:27As Conan makes his way to the ring one week ago, you'll recall Ray Mysterio
00:16:33Jr. valiantly challenged the big man, Kevin Nash.
00:16:37But then Conan comes in.
00:16:39Had a little nod and a look between Kevin Nash and Conan.
00:16:42And then Conan goes on to attack Ray Mysterio Jr.
00:16:47And thus, Mike, today, break the leg of the youngster.
00:16:51And there you see it.
00:16:53Now, here's a question here I need to ask both of you.
00:16:56The young man, Ray Mysterio Jr., has a broken leg.
00:16:59Conan comes in, and we speculated why he did that and why the nod.
00:17:05I mean, is he becoming a member of the NWO?
00:17:08Or is there a personal issue between Conan and Ray Mysterio Jr.?

00:17:13Today might know more about that.
00:17:14Obviously, a couple of luchadors that may go back may have a history of animosity.

00:17:33Tony, it was one of the most sickening situations I've ever seen.

00:17:44When we saw Conan come out after that brutal beating at the hands of Kevin Nash,
00:17:48I thought it was merely to help out Ray Mysterio Jr.

00:17:54Raven, who made an appearance last week when we were in Las Vegas,
00:17:59live on Nitro in The Stance, sitting once again in ringside here,
00:18:03watching the action.
00:18:04Mike, you talked to him.

00:18:07He certainly didn't know answers to the questions.
00:18:09But I see a pattern developing with Raven here again for a second week.
00:18:14I'm going to try and get some answers from him again this week, if possible.

00:22:35Yeah, but what he has done is in a sport where you can't do that.
00:22:38Giving someone an elbow when they're not ready,
00:22:40sucker punching someone when they're not ready,
00:22:42kicking a photographer when they're down
00:22:44and they're not ready is completely different

00:34:11We were going to try to pick Lex apart.
00:34:16I didn't think at that point I had a serious chance of staying in the ring against all
00:34:19those guys.
00:34:20In that circle of egomaniacs, there's no way that they're going to let any one person have
00:34:27it.
00:34:28At that point, it's just survival.
00:34:29I've always had a lot of respect for Lex Luger.
00:34:32You know, this guy's like a coiled rattlesnake.
00:34:34In Hollywood, Hulk Hogan didn't give me the title shot.
00:34:37That was the straw that broke the camel's back, as far as I was concerned.
00:34:40I tried to take something positive out of that and use it as a boost.
00:34:44Yeah, I can open a door, but the Giant's got to make these decisions for himself, and he
00:34:48made the right decision.
00:34:49Lex made it possible for me to really be a part of WCW.
00:34:53If no one ever forgave me, where would I be?
00:34:56It wasn't all just, oh, boy, I'm going to help the Giant out.
00:34:59It helped me, too.
00:35:00You know, I was facing Chokeslam and Big Heat, and Lex was excited.
00:35:05He was happy for me.
00:35:06At first, I was like, what are you doing?
00:35:08I really felt that Lex deserved it.
00:35:10There's Harlem Heat, served up on a silver platter by the Giant.
00:35:13And he could beat Harlem with Hogan.
00:35:14It was one of the most unselfish moments I've ever seen for a wrestler, and I think it was
00:35:18a defining moment for the Giant.
00:35:19It was probably one of the highlights of my career, and probably one of the best things
00:35:22I've ever done as a person.
00:35:24The Giant took a big step at manhood and iconism, baby!
00:35:30I don't think anybody knows what goes on inside Dennis Rodman's head.
00:35:32He's crossed the line.
00:35:34They feel that there's no responsibility for their actions.
00:35:38It felt good to have my hands around his throat.
00:35:40The Giant can't take anybody up.
00:35:42And I paused at that moment, maybe paused too long.
00:35:45I took Robin for granted, kind of a loud smack and a real warm feeling go up the back of
00:35:50my neck, and that's about all I remember.
00:35:52When that happens to you, it's humiliating.
00:35:54He stepped across the line, as we say so many times, and actually stepped in the ring and
00:35:59took part.
00:36:00And there was arrest, surrender of unconscious, and he's going to add humiliation and embarrassment
00:36:05by spray painting me.
00:36:06I take real exception to that.
00:36:08You basically just got embarrassed in front of 18,000 people sold out in Chicago.
00:36:14Him and Hollywood Hogan make a great couple.
00:36:16He's going to really look towards Hogan for leadership.
00:36:19The Giant has his big hand around Robin's throat, and Hulk Hogan feels that he's going
00:36:25to go up in the rack.
00:36:27He's going to bail.
00:36:28They've got a lot of money and a lot of attorneys to hide behind.
00:36:31They say NWO for life, but to me, that's for the moment.
00:36:36I feel that Dennis Robin is going to learn that at Bashas' Beach, about Hogan.

00:36:44You know, guys, a key point during that up-close interview with both of those wonderful athletes,

00:37:03make an impact.
00:37:04You know, I've been covering this sport now for 12 years, and I'm really kind of upset
00:37:10that he thinks he can walk in on a main event and become, quote, unquote, an impact player.
