00:00:18What in the world is going on?

00:00:22I thought we saw the last of him on Nitro last Monday night,

00:00:27and on the footage this weekend when Sting dunked him down the hole.

00:00:32Well, we didn't see enough of that, to be honest with you.

00:00:35Tony Schiavone, Mike Penne, and the living legend, Larry D'Avisco.

00:00:41And Hollywood Hulk Hogan is here.

00:00:48What a way to open up this two-hour live edition of Professional Wrestling's number one program.

00:00:56This is a disgrace to the heavyweight championship of the world,

00:01:00and I don't care who says anything different about it.

00:01:03Where was Hogan last week when Sting made his appearance in midring?

00:01:07Hiding where he always is.

00:01:09Well, we were under the impression he had been out making a movie,

00:01:13and as he, I guess he's going to the ring.

00:01:17I'm not so sure what's going on here.

00:01:19But Hogan is back, and I'm sure, gentlemen,

00:01:22it is to answer what has been happening on this program for the past couple of weeks

00:01:28because as you said, Mike, today, Sting has been here.

00:01:32Well, Hulk Hogan and the NWO, they have plenty of answering to do

00:01:37after last week Sting laying out Eric Bischoff with a pair of those Scorpion Death Drops.

00:01:43You know, and Sting popping out through the bottom of the ring.

00:01:47The question is, is Sting here tonight? Is Sting there right now?

00:01:51That's the big question.

00:01:53Hang on to your hats, guys.

00:01:55You never know what's going to happen as we are now up and running

00:01:59with the first of two hours live on TNT.

00:02:03And, you know, if you go back in history, it's rather ironic,

00:02:08or maybe it's not, that Hogan and the NWO would open up on the one-year anniversary

00:02:15of Scott Hall making his dramatic appearance on this program one year ago,

00:02:21beginning the assault on WCW by what would go down as the NWO.

00:02:26And just so you know, Hollywood, I checked.

00:02:31There ain't no little Stinger under the ring this week.

00:02:37Where is he, man?

00:02:39Well, you know, Mr. Bischoff, first things first.

00:02:43Number one, you're the man that is making all of this happen, brother.

00:02:50You're the reason I'm in the Bahamas spending Ted Turner's money

00:02:55making another movie, partying with a Bahama brass,

00:02:59Nasty Nick, Beautiful Brooke, the whole family affair, brother.

00:03:03But when it comes to messing with family,

00:03:08nobody in this world is as close to being family as you are, brother.

00:03:14And when that little, teeny, weeny Stinger,

00:03:18who I can snap in half with my 24-inch pythons,

00:03:23lays his hands on you, he's in deep, deep doo-doo brah.

00:03:29Now, for the few so-called Stingo Nights out there.

00:03:44More than a few.

00:03:48That may worship that little creep.

00:03:51Number one, he's scared of the outsiders.

00:03:56Number two, he can't keep up with my man Six-Pack.

00:04:01And number three, if you're in the building, you yellow-bellied coward.

00:04:07I'm calling you out right now, brother,

00:04:10because Hollywood is ready to romp on your parade.

00:04:20Hollywood, I know you would, but he isn't here.

00:05:10Well, we open up the program with Hogan calling Sting out.

00:05:19And as we know, over the past few weeks on this program,

00:05:24Sting has picked his moment.

00:05:26Sting has picked his shot.

00:05:29And it remains to be seen if Sting is here or not.

00:05:33Well, Tony, you gotta agree with Sting's motives.

00:05:37At least he's smart enough not to come walking us

00:05:40into the middle of the Rat Pack.

00:05:43You've gotta do it the way Sting is doing it.

00:05:45But then again, one man, I don't care how good you are,

00:05:48can fight an army.

00:05:51And the New World Order, unfortunately, is an army of rats.

00:05:55They really are, Larry.

00:05:56And hi, fans.

00:05:57We welcome you to this very first hour on this Memorial Day 1997,

00:06:02along with Mike Tene, and the living legend, Larry Zubisco.

00:06:05Got a great program and a big main event,

00:06:07Harlem Heat against the Horsemen, Jarrett and Mongo,

00:06:10later on in the second hour.

00:06:12Larry, you were talking about Sting being very smart.

00:06:15He is.

00:06:16He's gonna pick his spots.

00:06:17And you never know.

00:06:18They say they've looked around, but he still could be here somewhere.

00:06:21Well, you know, you gotta see, again, he saw the beating.

00:06:23Ric Flair suffered.

00:06:26And you wonder, how come there is so much suffering in the world, Tony?

00:06:30There's so much suffering so real men can overcome it.

00:06:34In Hollywood, you're gonna be suffering,

00:06:37because Sting is gonna answer the call.

00:06:39Mark my words.

00:06:40Mike, they seemed very confident,

00:06:41but as we have seen the last couple of weeks,

00:06:43the expression of Eric Bischoff changes when Sting makes an appearance.

00:06:46Well, the New World Order always seems to have their built-in excuses.

00:06:50Tonight, I don't think Sting is gonna telegraph an appearance,

00:06:53but I think we will find out before Nitro is over

00:06:57if Sting and the Hollywood Hogan will finally have that big showdown.

00:07:01Let's go to the ring, the opening bout,

00:07:03as we are back at you with two hours,

00:07:05live from Music City, USA, Nashville, Tennessee.

00:07:10And we are starting out with a Jim Dandy here, guys,

00:07:13because we have a six-man tag featuring stars from Mexico.

00:07:19Starting out with Juventud Carrera, Super Pillow,

00:07:23and the man in the middle making his debut on Nitro,

00:07:26Hector Garza, Mike, today.

00:07:28Well, Tony, this is another chance for us to witness

00:07:30the Mexican stars in their true element,

00:07:32a six-man lucha libre tag, which is a first for Monday Nitro.

00:07:36We've seen them tear down the house on a clash of champions,

00:07:39and also back on the Super Bowl pay-per-view last February,

00:07:42but this is their chance to shine on Nitro.

00:07:45And you mentioned out of the first three wrestlers coming to the ring,

00:07:48we are seeing the Nitro debut of one Hector Garza,

00:07:5227-year-old second-generation wrestler from Monterrey, Mexico.

00:07:56He's been very impressive in Monterrey.

00:07:58He's been very impressive throughout Mexico and Japan.

00:08:01Tonight is his chance to make a name on Nitro.

00:08:04Well, lucha libre rules means no tag is needed

00:08:07in the six-man tag, Mike, today, and...

00:08:11Wait, there's no tag needed here?

00:08:15Well, how does the other guy get in?

00:08:17Mike, can you explain that to Larry here?

00:08:19Well, Mexican rules, the official is more leaning in regards to tags.

00:08:23I think you'll see that once a wrestler goes to the floor,

00:08:26he'll be able to be replaced by his teammate.

00:08:28Opposition this week provided by La Parca, Ciclope,

00:08:32and Damian from Mexico, great star from the FMW

00:08:35and more promotions in Japan.

00:08:40And it's Juventud and La Parca beginning things,

00:08:42and I mean, they are starting already.

00:08:44High impact blows, and Juventud showing his quickness.

00:08:48La Parca sends him in. Look at this, would you?

00:08:50Over the top!

00:08:52Tried to grab the arm and take him down.

00:08:54Instead, catches him with that thrust kick right on target.

00:08:58Yeah, but then he stopped. You got to stay on the guy.

00:09:03Trying to climb the rope. He is up.

00:09:05La Parca, though, seemingly waiting on him.

00:09:07Yep, he was. Caught him in midair that time.

00:09:10He tried a high-risk maneuver that time, guys,

00:09:12but La Parca was into this.

00:09:14What's he doing, strutting all the way over to the other side?

00:09:16His variation of the moonwalk,

00:09:18and he sets up Juventud on the top rope with that slap.

00:09:21Enabling Juventud now to come over.

00:09:24I think that time La Parca thought possibly to try a powerbomb,

00:09:28but the momentum got him all the way over the headscissor takeover.

00:09:32Now La Parca ran off, so that means another guy can come in.

00:09:36Well, this time they actually did make a tag,

00:09:38but in Mexico, that's not required.

00:09:40But this isn't Mexico.

00:09:42Well, we're under Mexican rules in this match.

00:09:44You're right, Larry. This is not Mexico.

00:09:47I can drink the water here.

00:09:50Wow. Sicope with a lariat that time,

00:09:53sending down Super Calo.

00:09:55Now, fans, we had been saying Calo for so long,

00:09:58but we understand the correct pronunciation is Calo.

00:10:02And up on top, Calo.

00:10:05How about that maneuver?

00:10:07He came right back down and hooked his head.

00:10:09Again, but all these guys in there,

00:10:11it's just like he has six evil Knievels, no motorcycle.

00:10:14Guys are a bunch of daredevils, if you ask me.

00:10:18Calo been so impressive in the cruiserweight ranks.

00:10:20Look at this.

00:10:21That flying headscissors takeover.

00:10:23Sending the man down and out of the ring.

00:10:26A suicide dive.

00:10:27Oh, my goodness.

00:10:29He's on the third row.

00:10:31He flipped up and over the steel guardrail.

00:10:34How about that?

00:10:37All the way outside.

00:10:40We have never seen that, Super Calo.

00:10:43And that is a moment a fan at ringside will never forget.

00:10:47Yeah, if he ever wakes up.

00:10:49Now we see Damian and Hector Garza in action.

00:10:54You know, gentlemen, we've seen some incredible high-risk moves

00:10:57for many of the wrestlers from Mexico.

00:10:59But in my opinion, Hector Garza has invented

00:11:02the most spectacular flying move in wrestling today.

00:11:05He calls it the corkscrew plancha.

00:11:07It's a top rope high-risk move that I hope we get to see tonight.

00:11:11Summersault through that time and a great spinning backbreaker.

00:11:14Sending Damian down, a dropkick.

00:11:16And Damian goes on the outside.

00:11:18Here goes Garza to the far side, the baseball slide dropkick.

00:11:22Sending Damian all the way to the safety rail.

00:11:25He's up top, Mike.

00:11:27This time he caught him with the Garza splash.

00:11:31A great moonsault off that second post.

00:11:34Boy, these guys are bordering insane.

00:11:36I'm telling you, that's a maneuver that's going to put yourself in the hospital.

00:11:41He looks like he hurt himself.

00:11:43I think they really already went over the border.

00:11:45There was no tags. They just came right in there.

00:11:47But again, he was out on the floor, Larry.

00:11:49That's why he's able to be replaced with a ring.

00:11:52Remind me not to go to Mexico.

00:11:54La Parca, kind of a running kick that time.

00:11:57A back leg front kick on the face.

00:11:59And there is a clothesline from Sicope.

00:12:03Now, everywhere I go, I'm asked questions about the backgrounds,

00:12:06the identities, the history of Mexican wrestling.

00:12:08And within the next month, I'm going to be making a trip to Mexico

00:12:12and we'll try and bring some insight through some video packages

00:12:14and shed some light on the great tradition of Lucha Libre,

00:12:17professional wrestling in Mexico.

00:12:19All right, Mike, we look forward to having that program in the weeks to come.

00:12:22You know, it obviously has a different historical background to development

00:12:26than this kind of daredevil style.

00:12:29I mean, these guys cannot have a long future physically the way they're going.

00:12:35Their lifespan has to be maybe five years or so.

00:12:39They put their bodies and their careers on the line every night, Larry.

00:12:43Well, they certainly give the fans some exciting moments in the ring

00:12:46each and every time they go out.

00:12:47Garza now tripped by Damian on the low side.

00:12:50The fans.

00:12:52Hector Garza we see out on the floor now being held by Damian in that full Nelson.

00:12:58And now the only two men left in the ring are going out of big power slam.

00:13:02One, two, and that time it looked like La Parca almost let him up.

00:13:06Well, I think Hoobin, too.

00:13:07He just kind of wiggled his way out of there.

00:13:09La Parca threw him too hard, landed on his feet.

00:13:12Oh, boy, missing the splash.

00:13:14Damian hit the wrong man.

00:13:16La Parca spills down to the mat.

00:13:18Now to the far side, Hoobin-tude.

00:13:21Right here, right here, baby.

00:13:23Oh, my goodness.

00:13:26I thought it was a double flying head scissors,

00:13:28and instead he just took Damian right down to the concrete.

00:13:30But I think Hoobin-tude got the worst of it.

00:13:32Damian's slow to get up, but Hoobin-tude

00:13:34looked like he hit the concrete when Damian hit the mat.

00:13:37And now La Parca on the outside.

00:13:40Who's left?

00:13:42That's probably who's going to win, who survives here.

00:13:46Look at this.

00:13:50Somersault in midair, flip plunger to the floor by Hoobin-tude on La Parca.

00:13:56And Supercalo and Damian going at it.

00:15:19in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

00:15:22Fans in Tennessee all over the world rabbit for WCW Monday Nitro.

00:15:27You know, you can call this a very international first hour

00:15:31because we saw a breathtaking six-man Lucha Libre-style tag match open up.

00:15:38Psychosis and Alex Wright, Mexico and Germany.

00:15:42Also, later on, we are going to see from Japan Masahiro Chono.

00:15:46And as I said before the break, Sonny Ono has promised Masahiro Chono

00:15:52a man will come here tonight to destroy him.

00:15:55Who that man is, we don't know.

00:15:57Well, Mike, you always corner me telling me facts.

00:16:00Who is it?

00:16:01Well, he calls it Chono's biggest nightmare.

00:16:04I've got an idea.

00:16:05Some longtime rivals of Masahiro Chono.

00:16:08We'll have to wait and find out later in this broadcast.

00:16:11I could have said that.

00:16:14You know something, don't you?

00:16:16Maybe during the next break.

00:16:20Alex Wright will face Psychosis.

00:16:24Alex Wright has had a, and I guess when I say this, Mike,

00:16:27it may be an understatement,

00:16:29a little bit different demeanor over the past few weeks.

00:16:32He's doing a lot more dancing and now receiving some boots.

00:16:35And he's got the attitude to go with it,

00:16:37but you cannot deny the ability of Alex Wright.

00:16:40Certainly over the past few years,

00:16:42he has had a tremendous win-loss record in this sport.

00:16:44Well, I think when we look at Alex Wright and Psychosis,

00:16:47we see untapped potential in both.

00:16:49You mentioned the change in attitude for Alex Wright.

00:16:52He's gone along with a lack of respect that he seems to have

00:16:55for the American fans also, Tony.

00:16:57I don't know.

00:16:58I just think it's a typical syndrome of the young and the useless.

00:17:01You know, they got the dreams of being successful,

00:17:04the delusions of grandeur of becoming a superstar.

00:17:08And then once they put the tights on and get in the ring,

00:17:11they find out, hey, this is not easy.

00:17:13I might not make the grade.

00:17:15And they get frustrated.

00:17:16They get down on themselves.

00:17:18And I think Alex Wright just fell into the same young and dumb syndrome.

00:17:23The neutral position now.

00:17:25Nick Patrick, as you can see, is the referee.

00:17:28Reinstated by WCW on a probationary period.

00:17:32And Alex Wright showing the world and showing Psychosis

00:17:36why he is one of the top international stars in the sport.

00:17:39Certainly he's taller than Psychosis and outweighs the man as well.

00:17:43Psychosis at 26 years old, already nine years as a pro under his belt,

00:17:47an incredible potential.

00:17:49It's almost as if he's been overshadowed by the Conans and the Rey Mysterios,

00:17:53two men that trained to enter the sport with Psychosis

00:17:56at the same wrestling camp in Tijuana, Mexico.

00:17:59And he comes by his ring name.

00:18:01Honestly, that offense that Psychosis has

00:18:03consists of some of the most psychotic moves around.

00:18:06But Alex Wright in this change in attitude is laying the boots to Psychosis.

00:18:09Yeah, but this might be good for Wright to change his attitude.

00:18:12Look, he's gotten a lot more aggressive.

00:18:14He's not giving the guy a break.

00:18:16Maybe after a couple of years of the beatings here,

00:18:19he's learned the hard way, nice guys finish last.

00:18:23Two count that time and barely kicking out of it.

00:18:27Alex Wright with the change in attitude,

00:18:30the aggressiveness is here as you can see.

00:18:33That never-ending thrust to become an expert.

00:18:36Of course, you know what an expert is.

00:18:38Yes, I do. What is an expert?

00:18:41Well, an expert is a man who knows the worst mistakes

00:18:44that can possibly be made, and you just avoid them.

00:18:47It's that simple.

00:18:49Do you think dancing after an offensive assault is a mistake?

00:18:53Obviously, the kid's not an expert yet.

00:18:56But he's dominating this match.

00:18:59Certainly a man who's competing in the heavyweight division

00:19:02against one of the top cruiserweights here.

00:19:04He's certainly at a disadvantage.

00:19:06Right now, Alex Wright...

00:19:08He's setting Psychosis up.

00:19:10He's gonna come right down on him.

00:19:13We talked about that untapped potential for Psychosis.

00:19:16This is a chance for him to really shine against Alex Wright,

00:19:19but so far, Alex Wright has dominated this matchup

00:19:22from the opening bell.

00:19:24A lot of confidence in the youngster from Nuremberg.

00:19:26Psychosis has Wright followed him in, and that's what he wanted.

00:19:30He connected, makes a cover, one, two,

00:19:33and easily the right shoulder gets up.

00:19:36Was not a good cover that time by Psychosis at all.

00:19:40Here's a pick up here.

00:19:43The knee, back of the knee,

00:19:46the hamstring across the top rope.

00:19:48Yeah, I think Wright's lucky he's as tall as he is.

00:19:51How about that?

00:19:53Corkscrew in midair, catches him with a leg lariat

00:19:56to the back of the head and cover.

00:19:58And got a one count only.

00:20:00Tell you what, he may have some good offense,

00:20:03but Psychosis very nonchalant covers here, Mike, today.

00:20:06I'm surprised, Tony, he really hasn't put his full weight

00:20:09or grabbed the leg to take advantage

00:20:11of that pinfall attempt.

00:20:14Alex Wright slides out, looks toward the fans.

00:20:17Better not pose or dance on the floor

00:20:19when Psychosis is your opponent.

00:20:21Too much showboating by Alex Wright.

00:20:23I think Wright thinks he's out of the way,

00:20:25but he's not far enough for these guys.

00:20:27He's right near the ring post and...

00:20:29Oh, my goodness.

00:20:31Corkscrew moonsault catches him on the floor.

00:20:33And I'm not so sure.

00:20:35I think Psychosis took the worst of that, guys.

00:20:38It seemed as if his head hit about the same time

00:20:41his feet hit Alex Wright.

00:20:43Yeah, but I think his body haven't been hit

00:20:45the so-called safety rail.

00:20:47Fans want to remind you, in our number two,

00:20:49the big main event, Harlem Heat

00:20:51against the Horsemen, Steve McMichael and Jeff Jarrett.

00:20:58And Psychosis with a guillotine leg drop off the top.

00:21:02Beats him.

00:21:04He beat him.

00:21:07So Alex Wright, who came into this one,

00:21:09obviously the favorite,

00:21:11does a little bit too many dances,

00:21:14too much posing,

00:21:17and loses to Psychosis.

00:21:21Obviously, the guy's frustrated,

00:21:24made a lot of mistakes.

00:21:26See if we can pick some out here.

00:21:28Well, this could be a landmark victory for Psychosis

00:21:31as far as his future and his career

00:21:33in world championship wrestling.

00:21:35Not a very happy Alex Wright,

00:21:37but that's what happens when you open the door.

00:21:42Going to tantrum right now, and as he does,

00:21:44here it is again, Larry.

00:21:46Well, take a look.

00:21:47I don't know what he was thinking,

00:21:48but he was too close to the ring.

00:21:50Lucky Psychosis hit that rail,

00:21:52but still not lucky enough to avoid this.

00:21:55Came all the way down from the top.

00:21:57That knocked the wind out of Alex Wright.
