00:04:50Regardless of what you just heard, yes, Hulk Hogan still has the belt.

00:04:54But last night, in front of a capacity crowd in Nashville,

00:04:58at Starrcade 1996, in the biggest event this sport has ever seen,

00:05:03Rowdy Roddy Piper defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

00:05:08Yeah, forget the remarks of Hollywood.

00:05:11The man who didn't drop the ball is Rowdy Roddy Piper.

00:05:14There is a crack the size of the Nile River

00:05:19in the foundation of the New World Order.

00:05:22That's compliments of Rowdy Roddy Piper.

00:05:25You know, Rowdy Roddy Piper, this was an issue.

00:05:27This was a one-time shot.

00:05:29He wanted to go into Starrcade to prove a point in his career, and he did.

00:05:33And you know, Larry, if you think about it, it's too bad.

00:06:00The Giant last night went one-on-one against the Total Package Lex Luger.

00:06:05This is gonna be one of the most memorable matches ever.

00:06:07And yes, Luger got the big man up in the rack.

00:06:10But when he had him up in the rack, many times the Giant found ways to escape.

00:06:17The Giant was held many times.

00:06:18Sting came in unexpectedly, and

00:06:21he whispered something in the ear of the Total Package Lex Luger.

00:06:25He also whispered something in the ear of the Giant.

00:06:28I have no idea what he said last night, Larry, but

00:06:30he left his bat in the middle of the ring.

00:06:33Lex Luger held that on to a win over the Giant last night.

00:06:37One of the most emotional wins we've ever seen in this sport.

00:11:58Last night, Eddie Guerrero became the United States heavyweight champion,

00:12:04regardless of what the NWO will say.

00:12:07The Outsiders retained the World Tag Team Championship.

00:12:11The Ultimo Dragon captured the Cruiserweight Championship.

00:12:15He has nine belts right now.

00:12:17And Akira Hokuto defeated Medusa to win the WCW Ladies Championship,

00:12:23a championship that was dormant for ten years in this sport.

00:12:26And no denying, it was a good night for Sonny Ono and the Japanese wrestlers again.

00:12:31They're extraordinary enemies.

00:12:32Public enemy got Rujo on the table.

00:12:35That's not a smart place to be.

00:12:38Rujo held on there by Johnny Grudge and

00:12:42helpless now at the hands of public enemy.

00:12:45Listen to the fans, if you will.

00:12:47Rocco Rock, up and nobody home.

00:12:51And that hurt the back of Johnny Grudge.

00:12:53I'm not so sure Rujo being on the table would have helped matters anyway.

00:14:11Jushin ThunderLiger makes a Nitro appearance here.

00:14:15And last night, Jushin ThunderLiger, a key matchup against Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:14:19Right on your screen, you see some of the stills.

00:14:21It was a high impact, a high flying match.

00:14:24Both men with a variety of drop kicks.

00:14:26Inside out high risk maneuvers from both men.

00:14:30But it was the power bomb in the end for

00:14:32Jushin ThunderLiger that gave him the big victory last night, Larry.

00:14:35But Jushin ThunderLiger, amazing story of this man.

00:14:38But bottom line, Tony, one of the best cruiserweights in the world.

00:14:43And oh no, I mean Sonny Ohno.

00:14:47Sonny Ohno is coming out along with the man who now has nine title belts.

00:14:54And tonight is just wearing one, and that is the newly found,

00:14:58the newly won WCW Cruiserweight Championship, the Ultima Dragon.

00:15:03Last night, let's take a look at what happened last night.

00:15:06You're talking about a high impact cruiserweight match,

00:15:09one of the greatest cruiserweight matches we've ever seen.

00:15:11We thought Malenko had everything going his way.

00:15:13You see the SIA moonsault attempt, and then Malenko attempted a power bomb.

00:15:20It got reversed on him, and

00:15:22the Ultima Dragon walks away with the championship.

00:15:25Yeah, don't remind me I bet on Malenko.

00:15:28And well, you should have.

00:15:29Malenko was red hot, and don't think for

00:15:31a second that Dean Malenko is not on his way back.

00:15:34Oh, he will be.

00:15:35I got faith.

00:15:35I think Malenko's great.

00:15:38You know, any day, forget that speech.

00:15:41Right here, Ultima Dragon.

00:15:42He is in weight, knows the reputation of Liger, and he nailed him.

00:15:48The Ultima Dragon last night unified nine titles.

00:15:53And the ropes up, and look at that landing on his feet.

00:15:58Over the top, Liger missing a clothesline.

00:16:00The Ultima Dragon, they both try to clothesline at the same time here.

00:16:04These guys are both explosive, both trying to get the offense going their way.

00:16:08Personally, I'm more defensive myself, but we'll see what happens.

00:16:14Backbreaker that time by Jushin Thunder Liger.

00:16:20See, Liger's got a little bit more experience than right there.

00:16:23It paid off.

00:16:24Caught him, dropped him on the small of the back.

00:16:26Popped him in the ribs, and that caught his wrists.

00:16:31He's got him out.

00:16:32And Mark Curtis, the referee, checking, and the Ultima Dragon says no.

00:16:36One of the attributes that we have seen, not only with the Cruiserweight

00:16:40champion, Malenko, and Mysterio, but also the Ultima Dragon is perseverance, Larry.

00:16:45And I think that's a trait of the entire Cruiserweight division.

00:16:48These Cruiserweights just do not give up.

00:16:51Perseverance can also be synonymous with endurance.

00:16:55And, ah, two count, with endurance.

00:16:57Again, Cruiserweights are smaller men, so they're going to have a lot more

00:17:00endurance than a 300-pound man.

00:17:03Got a two count, and it's-

00:17:04Except for maybe Lex Luger.

00:17:06Speaking of endurance, and we saw he'll be here tonight.

00:17:09Ladies and gentlemen, what Luger accomplished last night, truly,

00:17:13the greatest match in the history of his illustrious career.

00:17:16I'll tell you, Liger, you can see the experience shine through.

00:17:23His moves are smooth.

00:17:24He doesn't waste any movement, wasting time here with Sonny Ono.

00:17:28But again, I think the experience of Liger here might just win it for him.

00:17:32Liger, and we noticed this last night about Liger,

00:17:36how he was a little bit more deliberate than usual.

00:17:39Liger's always been a very quick, as you said, Larry, explosive wrestler.

00:17:43There's a great counter move by the Ultimate Dragon.

00:17:46Sends Liger down with a version of the backbreaker that he saw earlier.

00:17:49And now here he goes.

00:17:51Head for a suicide dive, Vita Rooks.

00:17:55Kamikaze deluxe right there.

00:17:57Again, when you have no regard for your own bodily well-being,

00:18:01you're a dangerous opponent.

00:18:05Right here, Liger got nailed.

00:18:07But again, you mentioned more deliberate.

00:18:09Again, more deliberate, it's just the experience.

00:18:12Sometimes if you rush in too quick, you'll dive off that diving board.

00:18:15You wanna make sure there's water in the pool.

00:18:24Our colleague Mike Tenay brought this up last night about the health condition

00:18:29of Jushin Thunder Liger, about how he's had a brain tumor.

00:18:34That's a remarkable story.

00:18:35Remarkable story, it really is.

00:18:36Back in August, underwent surgery.

00:18:39He is okay now.

00:18:40He is back competing in a big match here against Ultimo Dragon.

00:18:44Tried a big slash that time, the foot up to the face.

00:18:47Again, Liger's so used to the high-risk maneuvers,

00:18:49he was just waiting for the Ultimo Dragon to go for that one.

00:18:53He got him, this could be the payday, he dumped him.

00:18:56Dumped him down, one, two, no, didn't get him.

00:19:03And that was very, very close.

00:19:04These two men to meet in the Tokyo Dome on the 4th of January this weekend.

00:19:09This little prelude to that, that one of course will be for all the gold.

00:19:14And up on top is Liger now.

00:19:17Boy, for a guy that had a brain tumor, Liger does not even think twice.

00:19:22If he hits his head wrong, he could be back in there.

00:19:26And a good one, two, and that was close again.

00:19:29And the Ultimo Dragon pulled out just in the nick of time.

00:19:32Sonny Ono, you can see him, he's rubbing his brow, this guy's worried.

00:19:38He had a good night last night, but he doesn't look so happy now.

00:19:41He had a good night last night because he opened up on a hot streak

00:19:44with the Ultimo Dragon winning, with Akira Hokuto winning.

00:19:48But had a little confrontation with Katsuki Sasaki,

00:19:52the husband of Akira Hokuto, who by the way is here tonight, a politician as well.

00:19:57It's an international night from Japan, from Mexico.

00:20:01They're all here tonight on WCW Monday Night Pro.

00:20:06The Ultimo Dragon knocked off that time, but

00:20:08he goes right back to the point of attack one more time.

00:20:10Look at that, spins over.

00:20:11Boy, just spins around in midair, laces his neck, brings him down on top of

00:20:15the head, and that's Liger's weak point.

00:21:13Strap match, very barbaric way to wrestle, to say the least.

00:21:19But the strap match, Tony, of course,

00:21:21involves basically dragging your opponent and tagging all four corners of the ring.

00:21:29Tagging the fourth corner ends the strap match.

00:21:32But you know, it's more than just a strap match here, Larry.

00:21:35There's an issue here, and here's what the issue is.

00:21:38This is gonna be Conan against Big Bubba.

00:21:40This is gonna be a member of the Dungeon of Doom against a former member of

00:21:44the Dungeon of Doom, and now a member of the New World Order, Big Bubba.

00:21:50This should be tremendous.

00:21:51And as you said, for him to drag the big guy, Bubba, around.

00:21:56Yeah, even with the guidance of Jimmy Hart,

00:21:58that's not gonna be an easy thing to do.

01:13:11Where three of the four mini superstars that we're gonna see in action tonight

01:13:15actually made their American debut.

01:13:17Masquerita Sagrada and Octagon Cito are in the ring.

01:13:22And here come their opponents.

01:13:25Gerito Estrada and Piratita Morgan.

01:13:28Of course, Piratita, the little pirate, complete with eyepatch.

01:13:32The minis are patterned after full-sized wrestlers down in Mexico.

01:13:37And originally, when the minis were debuting in Mexico,

01:13:41the full-sized stars were maybe upset with the idea.

01:13:43But it's now they've earned their respect with their talent.

01:13:46It's almost a badge of honor to have a mini superstar named in your honor.

01:13:51Octagon Cito and Gerito Estrada in there.

01:13:54And I tell you, he elevated that man that time.

01:13:58And then he had an arm drag.

01:13:59My goodness, it's just tough keeping up with this action.

01:17:55Well, I would say that both men are really focused on an attempt

01:17:59to regain that WCW cruiserweight championship

01:18:02and bring it rightfully back to the US.

01:18:11And the reversal, as you take a look at D Malenko, the man of a thousand holds.

01:27:12last night from Starrcade as a real great veteran and a heavy hitter.

01:27:40I almost look at it as a turning point victory

01:27:44in the career of the total package Lex Luger.

01:27:54It'll be a night he'll never forget.

01:27:55I call it his greatest match ever.

01:27:57And I've seen some great matches.

01:27:59I followed the career of Lex Luger.

01:28:01I have called probably most of the matches during his tremendous career,

01:28:05but never like we saw last night.

01:28:07And the eyes of the giant is something we'll never forget

01:28:10after he suffered what to him and to the NWO was a shocking loss.

01:28:16Hogan said, Hey, you dropped the ball.

01:28:17But I think Hogan was not talking about what happened during the Giants match

01:28:21as self-centered as Hogan is.

01:28:23He was talking about his match.

01:28:25Oh, of course.

01:28:26He didn't care about anybody but himself.

01:28:27That's right.

01:28:28You dropped the ball, giant, because you didn't save my butt.

01:28:30That's what he's trying to say.

01:28:33the giant or anybody else.

01:28:35And it almost seemed like the giant was disappointed

01:28:38that the New World Order didn't come down and help him out in the Luger.
