00:00:43Well, Tony, I've seen everybody back there.

00:00:46No telling what's going to happen on Nitro.

00:00:48We've got a big match to start off with in my mind.

00:00:51The best cruiserweight in the world right there.

00:00:54Well, he is the best cruiserweight in the world.

00:00:56He is the cruiserweight champion.

00:00:58Although, fans, you notice that DeMolinko does not have the belt around his waist.

00:01:03It was a week ago on this very same program when six of the NWO,

00:01:08basically you can call him what a hypnomaniac, stole his second title belt.

00:01:14Not too long ago, he stole the U.S. title belt from Eddie Guerrero.

00:01:18Eddie got that back recently, and now Six walking around with the cruiserweight championship belt.

00:01:24Wait a minute, wait a minute.

00:01:26Hold on here.

00:01:27Six, if you're anywhere in the building tonight, pay attention.

00:01:33I now know last Monday night it was you who came to the ring and took my belt.

00:02:30live from the Cal Palace in San Francisco on Sunday, February 23rd.

00:02:35As you know, and as it was agreed to last week,

00:02:39Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan will collide for the World Heavyweight Championship.

00:02:45Tonight on this program, we understand Roddy, Roddy Piper is here.

00:02:50And we will see it here from Roddy, Roddy Piper in this telecast.

00:02:54In addition, the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, is here tonight.

00:02:57We have some tremendous wrestling action, and what a way to start it off, Larry.

00:03:01Well, this is right up my alley.

00:03:02I love to call wrestling analytically, you know, if you want to put it that way.

00:03:09And Dean Malenko here, this is a man after my own heart here.

00:03:12You know, a man of a thousand holes.

00:03:14And what he's got to do is keep Eddie from the movement that Eddie Guerrero has.

00:03:19He can do it, but you've got to use your mind.

00:03:22Also here, fans, tonight, the total package, Lex Luger.

00:03:25The last time we saw him, he was laying on the concrete floor in the back locker room area

00:03:30when we came to you last week live from Memphis, Tennessee,

00:03:33attacked by Hall and Nash, the Outsiders.

00:03:36We are still uncertain on the extent of his condition, whether he has any broken bones

00:03:40or a concussion, maybe, or whatever.

00:03:43But we do understand he will compete tonight.

00:03:45And he and the Giant, of course, have that tag team, world tag team title match at Super Brawl.

00:03:49As far as I'm concerned, that's an unbeatable combination.

00:03:53I don't care what all the rest of the critics say.

00:03:55Listen to a man who knows the Giant and Luger are going to beat Hall and Nash.

00:04:00Full-arm drag and twist now by Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero.

00:04:03Leg sweep, takedown, and a lateral press, cover.

00:04:07Snapmare takeover, Eddie on his feet, ahead of steam.

00:04:10Full Nelson, standing switch.

00:04:13They are so quick, Larry.

00:04:15He's got him, but to get that full Nelson on properly,

00:04:17he should kick his waist out and take him down on the mat.

00:04:20See, Dean, I don't know if Dean can keep up with the movement of Eddie right there.

00:04:26Eddie is in a pretty tough spot here.

00:04:28But he rolls through and arm drags Dean down.

00:04:32Standing to the ropes, up and down, a head center takeover.

00:04:36Dean's showing him a little of his own medicine here.

00:04:39Up goes Eddie, head center takeover again.

00:04:42So much agility and balance.

00:04:44I mean, you're talking about balance in midair right there.

00:04:47Balance supreme, but this is what Malenko has to stop Guerrero from doing.

00:04:51Don't compete with Guerrero on his level.

00:04:54Take him out.

00:04:56Take him on the mat and use those thousand holds.

00:04:59Foot to the side of the head and a power slam.

00:05:01He was waiting for him.

00:05:02One, two, and he really that time, Larry, kind of lured Guerrero in.

00:05:07He was waiting for him.

00:05:08Malenko had him set up, and Eddie ran right into the trap.

00:05:12Just couldn't keep those shoulders down for one lousy second.

00:06:09but Malenko can take a side headlock and turn it against you.

00:06:12Well, what Malenko did was he just waited for the right moment when balanced.

00:06:15Now, Eddie had the headlock on, but he had it in a prone position too long.

00:06:20It was upright too long, and Malenko took advantage of it.

00:06:23Reverse that.

00:06:32I'm not so sure.

00:06:33Was that a submission hold?

00:06:34Well, Malenko had some good pressure on the knee,

00:06:36but not enough to keep him in that situation.

00:06:46Legs are the strongest part of your body, and you just can't delay.

00:07:24I think Penzer's got that U.S. belt, and he's trying to take it away from Penzer.

00:07:34Eddie's got him.

00:07:36And Six escapes.

00:07:39And Eddie's going after Six, as Six tried to steal that belt as well.

00:07:46And that's what's happened.

00:07:49Dean Malenko will get the win.

00:07:53You saw he jerked the arm back down.

00:07:56As a result of a count out, the man of 1,000 holds Dean Malenko.

00:08:02Malenko will get the win.

00:08:03Eddie's attention went towards Six.

00:08:06Well, that's kind of a bad break, Tony.

00:08:09I don't even think Malenko's happy with that victory.

00:08:11He wants to get his hands on Six.

00:08:13Six was the man he challenged.

00:08:15Of course, I think you're right.

00:08:16I think the kid is a kleptomaniac.

00:08:18I'll tell you what has to happen.

00:08:19I can tell you this right now.

00:08:21What has to happen, the fact that security needs to come to ringside

00:08:25and take the championship belts and hold on to them until the matches are over.

00:08:31That's the way they're safe.

00:08:32Eddie extending his hand to Malenko, who just kind of slaps it out of the way.

00:08:38But again, another stench of the New World Order.

00:09:09If you'll recall one week ago,

00:09:11Dallas, after his match, could not even leave and go to the locker room areas.

00:09:16Hall and Nash were waiting on him,

00:09:18and that had come moments after they had attacked Lex Luger.

00:09:21He's got a chair, and I'm not sure what it's for,

00:09:24but he also, fans, has a microphone,

00:09:27and I guess he has something he wants to tell us.

00:09:32You know, it's pretty obvious

00:09:36that DDP's got a big old bullseye in the middle of his forehead.

00:09:47And because of that, I got something to say.

00:09:53I've never been accused of being the smartest guy,

00:09:57and this might be one of the stupidest things I've ever done,

00:10:02but I've come out here tonight to make a statement.

00:10:09And the statement is I'm tired of running.

00:10:16If something's going to happen, let's let it happen right now.

00:10:22Oh, my.

00:10:25That's almost like a challenge, I would think, Larry.

00:10:27It's a smart chess move.

00:10:29He's calling out.

00:10:30Who's he calling out?

00:10:31Oh, my goodness.

00:10:40And the fans are standing.

00:10:45The Macho Man and Sting are coming to the ring.

00:10:49Are they coming to beat up Diamond?

00:10:51I don't know, but this is quite a moment.

00:10:57It's amazing.

00:10:58After weeks.

00:10:59Sting's got the back.

00:11:00Yeah, but after weeks of standing in the balcony

00:11:03and not knowing what's going on,

00:11:06they enter the call very quickly.

00:11:09The fans are cheering.

00:11:10Look at the face of DDP.

00:11:11I know.

00:11:12I think Diamond Dallas was talking more about a hall of mass.

00:11:15He didn't expect Sting and Macho Man.

00:11:18They're coming to get him.

00:11:22The Macho Man, obviously, blackballed by Eric Bischoff,

00:11:28not allowed back into world championship wrestling.

00:11:31And that is very unfortunate.

00:11:33And let's just kind of wait and see what's going to happen here.

00:11:52Boy, this is odd.

00:11:57Look at the eyes in Diamond Dallas.

00:11:59I don't know if he's in shock or what.

00:12:02You know, he's a tough guy, but he has to be very,

00:12:05he has to be scared right now.

00:12:06You're right.

00:12:07They have a ball bat.

00:12:10It is a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

00:12:16I think it was bravery even to come out here and say,

00:12:18let's get it over with.

00:12:21Yeah, hey, come on.

00:12:22Look at that.

00:12:23Sting's disgusting.

00:12:28I don't know what Sting is trying to prove here,

00:12:32but Dallas is not leaving the ring.

00:12:34I can say that for sure.

00:12:36He is standing in the ring.

00:12:38He is very unsure.

00:12:40The fans are standing there cheering.

00:12:47Is this a test?

00:12:50Oh, he's seen Sting do this a few times before.

00:12:54He turns his back on the man with the bat.

00:12:58Macho's doing it too.

00:12:59It's almost as if they're saying, okay, hit me.

00:13:03Here's your chance.

00:13:04You know, it could be they're saying, what side are you on?

00:13:10I guess maybe you're right.

00:13:11That's what, Sting is gone.

00:13:14The Macho Man has the bat back.

00:13:18I have no idea what was the motivation behind that,

00:13:22but the only thing I can say is that Diamond Dallas stood his ground

00:13:25against two of the top superstars ever in our sport.

00:13:29They had a ball bat, an aluminum ball bat, and he did not leave.

00:13:34I don't know if that was an initiation

00:13:36or if he proved anything to him or not.

00:13:39But putting wrestling into perspective of what it is, Tony,

00:13:42that human game of chess, it was a chess move of some kind.

00:13:46Let's see if Diamond makes the right move back.

00:13:58Welcome back to WCW Monday Nitro Live from Jacksonville, Florida.

00:14:04Tony and Larry in hour number one.

00:14:07The way we ended the program last week,

00:14:09Rodney Piper had come out.

00:14:11We're going to show the fans the footage

00:14:13at the end of the program with his young son Colt.

00:14:16Piper had come out to tell WCW no.

00:14:21And really when you think about it, we all wanted to see him take the match.

00:14:24But when he had said no at that time, Larry,

00:14:27of course he later on went to say yes, he'll take the match.

00:14:30But at that moment, I could see why he would say no.

00:14:33Rodney Piper had nothing else to prove to anyone.

00:14:36Well, he had nothing else to prove.

00:14:38The public wants to see the match,

00:14:40but you better remember the responsibility.

00:14:43If Piper should win, and I hope he does,

00:14:46if he should win the heavyweight championship of the world,

00:14:49it's a massive worldwide responsibility.

00:14:53It takes your life. You have commitments.

00:14:56You're flying all around the world defending the title,

00:14:58and that takes him away from his family.

00:15:01So obviously, as Rodney said, he doesn't want to do that.

00:15:05But after the humiliation,

00:15:07the extreme blatant humiliation, I can't blame Rodney.

00:15:12No question about that. Embarrassed in front of his son, Colt.

00:15:15And it's a moment in many ways.

00:15:18It's a moment of mixed emotions for many of us.

00:15:20It was a great moment seeing that Piper loves his family so much

00:15:25and a great moment knowing that he'll take the match.

00:15:27But a very embarrassing moment for him nonetheless

00:15:30at the hands of a man who has the audacity to call himself a world champion,

00:15:35and that is Hollywood Hulk Hogan along with Eric Bischoff.

00:15:38But the match is signed. Piper is here tonight.

00:15:41And we are off and running on Nitro fans.

00:15:45The event, of course, Super Brawl 7 is Sunday, February 23rd,

00:15:49live from the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

00:15:52World title, the two biggest names in our sport,

00:15:55will battle for the top prize ever.

00:15:58See, and now Piper's got to wrestle with that mental frustration.

00:16:02He wants to beat Hogan.

00:16:03If he wins, he also knows the responsibility he's going to face.

00:16:07He's going to have to say goodbye to his family

00:16:09because when you're the champion, you're rarely home.

00:16:12You're everywhere.

00:16:13Up on top is Conan.

00:16:14Conan and Bobby Eaton, two great veterans here.

00:16:16Conan, the Mexican heavyweight champion.

00:16:18He's got Bobby hooked.

00:16:19And he drops him right down on his head on that move.

00:16:52You know, it was typical NWO MO, if you will,

00:16:56as last week we saw the total package Lex Luger

00:16:59dropped by Hall and Nash.

00:17:03what we all experienced.

00:17:04This was during a match.

00:17:05That which does not kill us leaves us unconscious.

00:17:09And they had two lead pipes.

00:17:11And obviously, Luger was knocked unconscious

00:17:14by Hall and Nash of the NWO MO.

00:17:17And of course, we know the motives behind that.

00:17:19Luger and the Giant had agreed to the world title match,

00:17:22world tag team title at SuperBrawl,

00:17:24against Hall and Nash.

00:17:25But, you know, I find it odd that they would go after Luger

00:17:29and not go after the Giant because they have really

00:17:32a burning issue with the Giant,

00:17:33considering he is formally of the New World Order.

00:17:36Well, I think Luger just walked into the wrong place

00:17:38at the wrong time.

00:17:39Could have been the Giant.

00:17:40But obviously, Tony, the motivation is there.

00:17:43Common denominator between Hall and Nash, fear.

00:17:46They are scared stiff of the combination of Lex Luger

00:17:51and the Giant.

00:17:53Quite an ovation.

00:17:54I mean, they scream and stand when they hear his music.

00:17:57The total package Lex Luger.

00:17:59And look at this.

00:18:01Yeah, but he has a cast on the left hand.

00:18:27but Luger is not 100%.

00:19:37And that responsibility is to not let a wrestler wrestle hurt.

00:19:42So unless you've got a doctor's release,

00:19:45or unless you've got a friend who's a doctor

00:19:47and has got an X-ray machine in his back pocket,

00:19:50I'm afraid, my friend, you are not wrestling tonight,

00:19:52and I don't see any pockets in those tights.

00:21:06Because if I didn't, he'd get in that ring,

00:21:09he'd hurt himself.

00:21:59This is a great show of camaraderie

00:22:02with the giant and Luger

00:22:03for the giant to come out here and take Luger's place.

00:22:06A lot of critics have been speculating

00:22:09that the giant and Luger didn't get along

00:22:12or couldn't get along

00:22:13or wouldn't work well together as a team.

00:22:15But I think that's nonsense.

00:22:17They had the same motivation,

00:22:18hate and disgust for the New World Order.

00:22:21And it's fear that drags Bischoff out here.

00:22:25Unfortunately, he is the corporate executive.

00:22:29You'd never tell it by his suit.

00:22:31But he does have the authority to stop a man

00:22:34with an injured wrist or bone or cast.

00:22:37Of course he does, Larry.

00:22:38But it's very obvious

00:22:39he is trying to protect the athletes in the NWO.

00:22:42He runs both WCW and the NWO.

00:22:46And if he does,

00:22:47one would think that he would want to see

00:22:50the best matches possible on pay-per-view

00:22:53or on Nitro.

00:22:54But he is stacking the deck

00:22:56in the favor of the New World Order.

00:22:58And now he is seemingly on the edge

00:23:01of pulling Luger out of the World Tag Team title match

00:23:05coming up at Super Brawl No. 7.

00:23:07Well, that's not gonna happen.

00:23:08I bet you any money,

00:23:09Luger's on the cell phone right now

00:23:11calling somebody when his kid got dumped.

00:23:15Look at the eyes on the giant.

00:23:22And the giant, boy, they erupt

00:23:25when he puts that hand high in the air.

00:23:28That means only one thing.

00:24:00but giant may not even need Lex Luger

00:24:04to make Hall and Nash history.

00:24:06Well, when you fight Hall and Nash,

00:24:08you fight the entire New World Order

00:24:10from its athletes to its political influence

00:24:13in the front office.

00:24:14That's what's gotta be stopped,

00:24:15the political connection.

00:24:17Power in this sport is measured many ways.

00:24:20In the ring, with the athletes,

00:24:22but also within the political ramifications

00:24:26in the front office.

00:49:29But during the first hour, here are some of the things that you missed.

00:49:32Mike Tanae, Diamond Dallas Page came out here.

00:49:34He basically called Sting out and the Macho Man out.

00:49:37Was that a test for Diamond Dallas Page,

00:49:39or what exactly did you read into all that happened right there, Mike?

00:49:42I'm wondering if that was a wake-up call for DDP,

00:49:45supplied by Sting and the Macho Man, Randy Savage.

00:49:48After watching what happened in the middle of the ring, though,

00:49:50I think we're just about as confused as we were going in.

00:49:52What exactly did that mean?

00:49:54I have no idea, but we're going to answer the call from the fans out here

00:49:56of Weasel Weasel as we turn to Bobby the Brain Heenan,

00:49:59and also want to talk about the Total Package Lex Luger.

00:50:02He came out here with a cast on his hand,

00:50:04and Eric Bischoff said, hey, you're not going to wrestle.

00:50:06You may not wrestle during Super Brawl,

00:50:08you and the Giant against the Outsiders,

00:50:10but we saw a solid team together as Mike Tanae was in the ring,

00:50:14Luger and the Giant in hour number one.

00:50:16Well, they're a very solid team together,

00:50:18but Eric Bischoff lies to you people.

00:50:20He says, I'm concerned for your health.

00:50:22I know a little bit about medicine. I'm concerned for your health.

00:50:24Those are lies. He does not want the Giant.

00:50:27He does not want Luger to get in the ring against the NWO Outsiders.

00:50:30It's plain and simple.

00:50:31No question about that.

00:50:32Eric Bischoff has pulled every dirty trick possible in the book,

00:50:36including, and we're going to talk about this,

00:50:38bringing Randy Anderson out here for the second week in a row.

00:50:42He is embarrassing a man in front of his children,

00:50:45in front of his family.

00:50:47Let's go to the ring as the World TV Title Match is underway

00:50:50tonight on WCW Monday Nitro.

00:50:53I tell you, the World TV Title, here comes Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:50:56battling back from a leg injury.

00:50:58But let me say this, there's so much...

00:51:01Oh, yeah, this is where the big boys play.

00:51:03I'm not kidding, Rey.

00:51:04There is so much a man can take,

00:51:07and Piper proved that a week ago, Mike, today,

00:51:09when he came out here with his young son, Colt,

00:51:12and was basically, literally embarrassed

00:51:15as a man can be in front of his son.

00:51:17And then Piper snapped.

00:51:19Piper went at Hogan.

00:51:20He agreed to the match.

00:51:21He went after the eye of Hulk Hogan.

00:51:24He not only wanted to take Hogan on at Super Brawl,

00:51:28he wanted to put Hogan out last week.

00:51:30Well, I think what we've seen, Tony,

00:51:32is that everyone has a breaking point.

00:51:34And I think that last Monday on Nitro...

00:51:36Well, Roddy, Roddy Piper finally snapped.

00:51:39And what we may see in Piper against Hogan

00:51:43is a report back to the old Roddy Piper,

00:51:46a more vicious Roddy Piper.

00:51:48At least that's what I saw at the conclusion

00:51:50of last Monday's Nitro.

00:51:51Oh, Mike, he's a more dangerous Roddy Piper

00:51:53because he's got all that experience under his belt.

00:51:55Now, you can beat him with a chair.

00:51:57You can hurt his hip. You can do whatever you want.

00:51:59You don't downdress him, embarrass him,

00:52:01and humiliate him in front of his little boy

00:52:03who was standing there with tears in his eyes

00:52:05watching at home.

00:52:06He didn't want the match.

00:52:07Hogan backed himself into a corner.

00:52:09He's not making smart moves now.

00:52:11Piper is geared for this. Be ready.

00:52:13And that's a great point as we take a look at a man

00:52:15who is yet to be beaten for this TV title,

00:52:17Lord Steven Regal.

00:52:18He's got quite a competitor here to go against him,

00:52:20and Rey Mysterio Jr.

00:52:21Great point is the fact that Hogan came out,

00:52:24and it seemed to me,

00:52:26if you're thinking NWO common sense,

00:52:29and I know that's kind of an oxymoron,

00:52:31but if you're thinking NWO common sense,

00:52:33if you're thinking Hogan,

00:52:34Piper has said no.

00:52:35Good.

00:52:36Let's leave well enough alone.

00:52:38But they came out, and they antagonized Piper

00:52:40into taking the match.

00:52:42What's the motive there?

00:52:43Well, I don't know,

00:52:44but that could be one of Hulk Hogan's

00:52:46biggest mistakes in his illustrious career.

00:52:49We've seen Bischoff flaunting his power once again

00:52:52in any effort to break WCW's momentum.

00:52:55But why would the New World Order

00:52:57almost insist on this matchup

00:52:59involving Piper and Hogan for the world's title?

00:53:01What do they have in store

00:53:02for Rowdy Roddy Piper at Super Bowl?

00:53:04Well, I think it's very simple.

00:53:05If you look at the whole big picture,

00:53:07Piper embarrassed Hogan.

00:53:08He is now known as the icon in professional wrestling.

00:53:11Hogan can't live with that.

00:53:13This man's on fire inside.

00:53:14He's seething.

00:53:15He'll do any dirty possible trick in the world

00:53:17to save face.

00:53:18And if you have to do it in front of Piper's kid,

00:53:20he's gonna do it,

00:53:21but it's gonna backfire on him.

00:53:22Well, it gets all back to ego,

00:53:23and you guys know as well as everyone

00:53:25in this sport, in every walk of life,

00:53:27in professional sports,

00:53:29a guy with a runaway ego.

00:53:30We've seen many of them out here.

00:53:31A lot of times that ego will overshadow everything

00:53:35and completely consume his life,

00:53:36and basically, Brain, that's what we're seeing.

00:53:38All right.

00:53:39Television title matchup.

00:53:40Ray Mysterio Jr., Lord Steven Regal.

00:53:42No question about it.

00:53:43Mysterio has all the tools

00:53:44to take that title away from Lord Steven Regal,

00:53:47but Regal really one of the hottest men

00:53:49we've got in this sport right now.

00:53:51Well, a contrast in styles

00:53:53and obviously size in this title matchup.

00:53:55Regal needs to do one thing plain and simple.

00:53:58Control Mysterio on the mat.

00:54:00Do not play into your opponent's strengths.

00:54:02Do not let Ray Jr. fly.

00:54:04Well, the very interesting thing about the Jr. here is,

00:54:07you know, he's got the Mexican style down naturally.

00:54:09He's got the Japanese style down.

00:54:11He's really become Americanized,

00:54:12but can he adapt to the European style

00:54:14is what I want to see here.

00:54:16Oh!

00:54:17Regal using that weight advantage,

00:54:19and there's no question,

00:54:20Ray Mysterio Jr. one of the smallest competitors,

00:54:23but really many people will say,

00:54:25pound for pound,

00:54:26one of the greatest ever to compete in the ring,

00:54:28and Regal loves to show off.

00:54:30He loves to show off his opponents

00:54:32and show opponents how much he knows,

00:54:34and we're seeing a little example of that right there.

00:54:37Well, small in stature, Tony,

00:54:39but I think the heart the size of the giant.

00:54:42Ah!

00:54:43Regal works on the arm of Ray Mysterio Jr.

00:54:45Now, I said earlier, fans,
