00:00:38The beginning of two hours live from the Bayfront Center

00:00:42in St. Petersburg, Florida.

00:00:45As always, a capacity crowd on hand to watch the superstars

00:00:50of World Championship Wrestling.

00:00:53And as you know by now as always, we are on fire.

00:00:57For the first hour, I'm Tony Schiavone, as always,

00:01:00along with the living legend, Larry Zbysko.

00:01:03And as we look through the crowd here, and as we look through the crowd,

00:01:06the past two weeks we had seen Sting.

00:01:08But tonight we have not seen Sting as of yet.

00:01:11What is going on in this man's mind?

00:01:13I don't know, but we've already searched the rafters.

00:01:15We've had teams and security crews go through every nick and crevice.

00:01:19Sting has not been seen in the building.

00:01:22I mean, we know the man's in limbo, Tony.

00:01:25Maybe he just ran out of all intestinal fortitude.

00:01:28I don't know.

00:01:29Speaking of intestinal fortitude, the question is,

00:01:32we don't think Hulk Hogan has it when it concerns Rowdy Roddy Piper.

00:01:36For the past couple of weeks, as you know,

00:01:38Eric Bischoff, World Championship Wrestling,

00:01:40attempting to sign what would be the match of the decade

00:01:43between the two biggest icons in the sport.

00:01:45It's the match we all want to see, including yourself, Larry,

00:01:47Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

00:01:49I'm going to be at ringside if that one is ever signed.

00:01:52But again, all speculation, Tony.

00:01:55We have a tremendous program, including a match in the tournament

00:01:59to decide a WCW Ladies Champion.

00:02:01Some of the superstars from Mexico will be here.

00:02:04And our opening bout tonight is going to be a classic

00:02:07between Jeff Jarrett and a member of the Four Horsemen, Chris Benoit.

00:02:10Do you remember last week?

00:02:12Yeah, what it's going to be is for Jeff Jarrett, a baptism of fire.

00:02:15Steve McMichaels, Chris Benoit.

00:02:18I don't think they're willing to accept him into the fold yet,

00:02:20even though Ric Flair gave him the blessing.

00:02:23Jeff Jarrett has to prove himself.

00:02:25As we showed you last week.

00:02:28Thanks very much, Tony.

00:02:30Jeff Jarrett, it's become quite obvious,

00:02:32the serious injuries to the Nature Boy Ric Flair and Arn Anderson,

00:02:37that as we head into World War III,

00:02:39the Four Horsemen are at far less than 100% strength.

00:02:42Well, you're talking to the lead horse, and the old saying goes,

00:02:45we may be down, but we're not out.

00:02:48Because I've watched those guys' career from afar,

00:02:51and I know one thing.

00:02:52When they get together, the NWO will go down.

00:02:55Let me tell you the way it is, Mike.

00:02:58Any business pertaining to the Horsemen

00:03:01shall be dealt with accordingly by a horseman.

00:03:07Listen, listen.

00:03:09In the age of free agency,

00:03:11I don't understand how somebody can just walk through a door

00:03:14and sit his butt down in a seat and say,

00:03:16this is my house, mister.

00:03:18I got my foot in the door, Jarrett.

00:03:20You listen to me, boy.

00:03:22And another thing, baby.

00:03:24You see that shirt, zipper head?

00:03:25It says Four Horsemen.

00:03:27And Chris and myself will be keeping vigilant, baby,

00:03:31until those two old horsemen, Arn Anderson and Ric Flair,

00:03:35who are tougher than boot leather, oh, yes, they will be back.

00:03:38And then they'll be held to pay from the Horsemen, baby.

00:03:41And as far as I'm concerned, Chris and woman,

00:03:44the Four Horsemen interview is over.

00:03:49Jeff Jarrett, I know one of the things that concerns you

00:03:52is the fact that no one in world championship wrestling

00:03:55has stepped up and taken that leadership role against the NWO.

00:03:58That's exactly right.

00:03:59As I was saying, Mike, you want to talk about leadership.

00:04:03You want to talk about WCW versus NWO.

00:04:06You want to talk about WCW winning the war.

00:04:10Well, in order for that to happen,

00:04:12WCW, like I said two weeks ago, has to unite.

00:04:16That's right.

00:04:17The Four Horsemen in the Dungeon and Dune

00:04:19got to put their things aside and clear things up.

00:04:22Luger and Anderson, put your personal business aside.

00:04:25Nasty boys, all I got to say to you two fat doe boys is

00:04:28actions speak louder than words.

00:04:31And Piper, that's right.

00:04:32You got to wipe that Hollywood makeup off your face

00:04:35and get in the ring and see if you still got it.

00:04:38Because I've got it.

00:04:39Because Ric Flair said I had it.

00:04:41He said I could walk the walk and talk the talk.

00:04:43When I get the gun, I shoot a bullseye every time.

00:04:48Don't wrap me up, pal.

00:04:50When I get the ball, I score a touchdown every time.

00:04:53When I say I'm going to do something, I do it every time.

00:04:57You can't say that about Sting.

00:04:59No, he's walking around in some catwalk.

00:05:07He walked out at fall brawl.

00:05:11That's right, he turned his back on the people that made him,

00:05:14and that's WCW.

00:05:16So you can X his name off the list,

00:05:18but you can't say that about Flair

00:05:20because he may get on his horse again,

00:05:22the big white stallion, ride Space Mountain one more time

00:05:25and lead us to victory.

00:05:26It may be Piper.

00:05:27I may have to do it.

00:05:29But one way or another, Hogan,

00:05:30you and the rest of your NWO flunkies are going down.

00:05:59You heard the comments from Jeff Jarrett.

00:06:02So Jeff Jarrett, as he says,

00:06:04jumps out of the frying pan into the fire

00:06:06because he has the opening bout this week

00:06:09against Chris Benoit.

00:06:11Now, the Four Horsemen, they're an elite group.

00:06:13I know Jeff Jarrett talks big talk, Tony,

00:06:17but getting in there with the Four Horsemen,

00:06:19as Steve McMichael's pointed out,

00:06:21it is the Four Horsemen.

00:06:23So we'll find out, but definitely a baptism of fire

00:06:26ready to heat up right here.

00:06:29His opponent in this one fall contest,

00:06:32he's from Music City, USA,

00:06:35Jeff Jarrett!

00:06:39There has been a lot of talk going on

00:06:41in world championship wrestling,

00:06:43but now a chance to prove it here.

00:06:45Jeff Jarrett, Chris Benoit,

00:06:47they are two great pro wrestlers going at it.

00:06:49They're right here tonight.

00:06:54You know, I think I know what Jarrett's trying to do.

00:06:56I think he's trying to impress his way

00:06:58into the Horsemen organization.

00:07:00Chris Benoit, he feels he'll be accepted.

00:07:03Benoit has one archenemy out there we know of,

00:07:06and he is standing by with these comments.

00:07:08Let's get them in before the match starts.

00:07:11Kevin Sullivan and Jimmy Hart at this time.

00:07:15Woman, one phone call would have stopped this whole mess.

00:07:51when Benoit and the Taskmaster, Kevin Sullivan,

00:07:54lock it up once again.

00:07:57If you'll recall back this summer in the month of June.

00:07:59They tore the house, the bathroom.

00:08:01Yes, they did.

00:08:02They carried more fans out that night than they did wrestlers.

00:08:08and I know, based on what we have heard,

00:08:10this is kind of a match for respect.

00:08:21Of course, no doubt about it,

00:08:22the strut of Ric Flair, the head horseman.

00:08:25I don't know if that's impressing Benoit

00:08:27or just irritating the man.

00:08:31Back to the attack once again.

00:08:32Jarrett, the type of guy, and we found out this,

00:08:34if you'll recall, back at Slim Jim's Halloween Havoc

00:08:37at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas back last month,

00:08:40that he will take the fight right to you,

00:08:41regardless of the size, regardless of your demeanor.

00:08:44Jeff Jarrett has a return match scheduled against the giant

00:08:48as part of our next big pay-per-view spectacular,

00:08:51World War III, coming up on Sunday night,

00:08:53the 24th of November.

00:08:54He's willing to get back in there one more time.

00:08:56Well, Jarrett's got guts, but you know,

00:08:57there is a fine line between stupidity and bravery.

00:09:02There is, huh?

00:09:03Very fine.

00:09:04You were always brave, weren't you?

00:09:06I was always smart.

00:09:07Oh, okay, that's what I thought.

00:09:08I didn't think you would say the other S-word there.

00:09:28and look at the counter moves that time by Jeff Jarrett.

00:09:32Benoit said enough with the moves and the fireman scare.

00:09:36Even on point with Benoit, he just turned the tide.

00:10:18I tell you, we are back on Nitro.

00:10:20It's an old cliche,

00:10:21but the line has really been drawn in the sand here

00:10:23with the horsemen and Jeff Jarrett.

00:10:25Jeff Jarrett never really had been a horseman,

00:10:28but he had been taken under by the Nature Boy.

00:10:31Right hand, and down goes Jarrett,

00:10:33and we've got a heated battle going on here.

00:10:35Well, look at Benoit go.

00:10:37And there goes Jarrett.

00:10:39Jarrett wants to flatter Flair so much,

00:10:41he better turn himself into the dirtiest player in the game

00:10:44to compete with Benoit.

00:10:45Look at him go!

00:10:46Would Jarrett owe this guy money?

00:10:48I'm not so sure if he does or not,

00:10:50but Benoit has unleashed some momentum here

00:10:53and some, as you say, Larry, aggressiveness that he needs.

00:10:56Oh, Jeff Jarrett!

00:10:57Twinging neckbreaker caught him that time.

00:10:59Speaking of the Nature Boy, Ric Flair,

00:11:01an update on the injury to Ric Flair

00:11:03and his rehabilitation coming up later on in this program.

00:11:08We'll talk about the surgery he had

00:11:10and when we can expect the Nature Boy Ric Flair back.

00:11:14Hopefully, very, very soon,

00:11:16just another blatant attack, if you'll recall,

00:11:19right on this program weeks ago,

00:11:21perpetrated by the New World Order.

00:11:25Here comes Jarrett right towards you now,

00:11:28using all the weight.

00:11:29That's a great move, Larry.

00:11:30Let the ring become your friend.

00:11:32If you can use those ring ropes,

00:11:34which are nothing but steel cable and a garden hose,

00:11:37that can hurt your opponent.

00:11:38If you can use them, use them.

00:11:39But Benoit, he won't stay down long.

00:11:41Jarrett's got to get ultra-aggressive

00:11:43against Chris Benoit.

00:11:44Look at him snap back at him.

00:11:46Backhand thrust and it really caught the chest of Jarrett

00:11:49and Jarrett goes down hard from Hilarion.

00:11:52And the fans love the action like this,

00:11:55the action that you only see

00:12:07And I tell you, I didn't think they were that angry

00:12:10at each other at the beginning of this match,

00:12:12but now I'm not so sure.

00:12:13I don't know if it's anger or if Jeff Jarrett's,

00:12:16you know, just wanting to impress the horseman,

00:12:19you know, so much.

00:12:20And he nailed Benoit right there.

00:12:21But against Benoit, you've got to be aggressive.

00:12:24This guy is a machine and Jarrett knows it.

00:12:27Larry, can you imagine the butterflies

00:12:29that are going on right now

00:12:30with all the wrestlers in World Championship Wrestling?

00:12:33I know what you're talking about, World War III.

00:12:36Talking about World War III.

00:12:3760 men will vie for a chance.

00:12:39The winner, the last man standing,

00:12:41three rings and 60 men will get a chance

00:12:44in the first shot at Hulk Hogan's

00:12:46World Heavyweight title.

00:12:47And a guy can win that that may not ordinarily

00:12:51get that title shot.

00:12:52This may be his one chance at glory here.

00:12:54Chance of a lifetime.

00:12:55Chance at that gold ring in life.

00:12:57But again, you got 60 men.

00:12:59You're going to need 59 stretchers.

00:13:01But what a chance for a dream to defeat Hulk Hogan

00:13:05and break the foundation of the New World Order.

00:13:09Certainly that would do it.

00:13:10There is one man out there

00:13:11who is not thinking about breaking a foundation

00:13:14of the New World Order.

00:13:15It's a man who wanted five minutes of Hulk Hogan's time

00:13:18and that man, Roddy, Roddy Piper, he got it.

00:15:31the biggest name going is Dr. Edge.

00:15:34Wait a minute.

00:16:03Is it ticking?

00:16:04No, it's not ticking.

00:16:07Fans, I'm sorry about this.

00:16:08Water's everywhere.

00:16:09This is WCW.

00:16:10Take a look at this tape.

00:16:12It played in Europe in 92 and was a hit.

00:16:14In 92?

00:16:15Piper wants Hogan.

00:16:17Play it.

00:16:18You'll see what I mean.

00:16:20Ken McDade.

00:16:27The Nature Boy, Ric Flair, undergoing surgery for the shoulder.

00:16:31He is down in Birmingham.

00:16:34I'm all mixed up now.

00:16:37I don't even know what to say.

00:16:38Let's take a look at the boy, Ric Flair, and his rehabilitation.

00:16:45In Birmingham, Alabama, at the HealthSouth Medical Center

00:16:48is Dr. Jim Andrews, world-renowned orthopedic surgeon.

00:16:51several of the clinic walls hang a virtual who's who of pro athletes.

00:16:54Bo Jackson, Charles Bartley, Roger Clemens.

00:16:57The list is a mile long.

00:16:59Dr. Andrews is number one in the repair field.

00:17:02In his hands lie the future of Ric Flair's career.

00:17:06The injury to his left shoulder was inevitable.

00:17:09His injury to his shoulders, accumulation of a lot of falls and he had a complete tear of his rotator cuff.

00:17:16He put his schedule and his wrestling career even in front of his injury

00:17:19once he knew how serious it was.

00:17:22The rotator cuff, of course, is the muscle tendon unit that helps you raise your arm

00:17:29to get your arm overhead.

00:17:30And you see some little sutures that have been placed in this small tear of this rotator cuff in this illustration.

00:17:37There's been a detachment and a hole actually all the way through and through his rotator cuff.

00:17:43We then made an incision, went right to that tear and put stitches in it and made drill holes through his arm bone

00:17:49and repaired that right back to where it came from, to the bone.

00:17:52That rotator cuff takes about four months to heal.

00:17:55So it is a serious shoulder type injury.

00:17:58In Ric's case, he's lifted weights all of his life.

00:18:01So his rotator cuff was twice as thick as the average.

00:18:06With Ric's motivation, he's working daily two or three hours a day in physical therapy for rehabilitation.

00:18:13He'll be able to return to wrestling at an appropriate time and he will heal and be able to come back.

00:18:22Well, I tell you, that's good news.

00:18:23Our thanks to Dr. Andrews, a rotator cuff injury, and Ric Flair on the men now.

00:18:29Four months, he said, to come back.

00:18:31You know, Dr. Andrews worked on Bo Jackson, Roger Clements, Jack Nicklaus, Charles Barkley,

00:18:39all the top names in sports.

00:18:40And of course, the 13-time world heavyweight champion, Nature Boy Ric Flair, down in Birmingham with rehabilitation.

00:18:46And I apologize, once again, we've got water everywhere.

00:18:50Can I say this to fans?

00:18:51Don't try things like that.

00:18:53Yeah, don't come up here.

00:18:54If you want to be on TV, wave.

00:18:59It's not safe to speak up behind me here.

00:19:02I'm not kidding.

00:19:02All right, another first round match in the tournament to determine a WCW women's champion.

00:19:10Malaya Hosaka from Tokyo, Japan.

00:19:13We've seen her before.

00:19:15And now we are going to see this lady we have heard so much about.

00:19:18Her name is Zero, led in by Sunny Ono.

00:19:24And fans in Japan know this lady quite well.

00:19:26As a matter of fact, you notice the belt she has around her waist.

00:19:31That's a lady?

00:19:34Let me get into the story now.

00:19:35She is from the Gaia promotion in Japan and just recently won a tournament in Singapore.

00:19:41And she is the Gaia heavyweight champion, ladies champion over there.

00:19:46How about that?

00:19:48She makes you look really bad, Tony.

00:19:50Does she really?

00:19:51That's a lady.

00:19:54Well, you better start hitting the weights, pal.

00:19:58Fans in Japan also knew her as Chagusa Nagayo.

00:20:02And she was one of the most popular stars in Japan.

00:20:05But kind of like what the transformation that Conan's been going through as of late.

00:20:09A complete transformation.

00:20:11Nagayo, one of the most popular stars in Japan at one time.

00:20:15Now paints her face, calls herself Zero.

00:20:17A little personality transformation.

00:20:20Yeah, I wonder if that's a confidence factor instilled with the genius here of Sunny Ono.

00:20:25I mean, we've seen Conan go through transformation, other wrestlers.

00:20:28But they seem to go through transformations as success mounts.

00:20:33And I think it's the pressure.

00:20:34I think it's maybe a positive attitude adjustment.

00:20:39This is the second match in round one of the tournament.

00:20:42We saw match number one last week.

00:20:44And Zero, we have heard so much about her the first time here appearing.

00:20:50And she came out last week, if you'll recall.

00:20:52And basically did a little confrontation with Medusa who won her first round match.

00:20:58Can you believe it that Nick Patrick gets the call in this all-important

00:21:01match in the ladies division here?

00:21:03Well, he's a senior referee.

00:21:05Well, there you go.

00:21:06Why don't you stand up for him?

00:21:09I'm just pointing out a factoid.

00:21:11Over the top.

00:21:12But he is not capable of refereeing here.

00:21:15That's beside the point.

00:21:17There's Zero gets the cover.

00:21:21And not a very, kind of a lackadaisical cover held onto the hair.

00:21:25But Miss Hosaka, well, she reversed it right here.

00:21:29Yeah, see, look, not enough weight kind of nailed her.

00:21:31I want to say him, but.

00:21:33It's a her.

00:21:34I think.

00:21:36Down goes Hosaka.

00:21:38And a tremendous lariat that time out of left field.

00:21:41Down goes Patrick.

00:21:42Got a two count, I think, that time.

00:21:44She pulled her up.

00:21:46Well, she must be able to feel the body.

00:21:47You can feel your opponent's body go limp.

00:21:50Almost like a knockout punch.

00:21:52And, oh, right there.

00:21:53Got her up.

00:21:54Letting the weight come down.

00:21:55Holding her up by the elbows.

00:21:57Almost like a torture rack variation.

00:21:59Just dunked her.

00:22:00And they're like a power bomb and covers her.

00:22:02One, two, three.

00:22:04This was total domination from the opening round.

00:22:07And Zero, along with Sunny Ono, advances on into round number two to crown a WCW Ladies Champion.

00:22:16She's already a champion in the Gaia promotion in Japan.

00:22:20And she wants to be a world champion here in WCW.

00:22:24But a happy Sunny Ono.

00:22:25Put a couple of figures in front of that Zero.

00:22:28He made some money tonight.

00:22:33Nick Patrick favoring the neck, birding during the whole match.

00:42:04and Scott Norton just was one half of the tournament tag team champions over in the Orient.

00:42:09But Bobby the Brain Eden, Lex Luger, as you know, has been on a roll here in WCW.

01:10:14Well, Miguel Perez, as is the case with so many newcomers here in World Championship

01:10:18Wrestling, is a second-generation wrestler.

01:10:20And many old-time fans might remember his father.

01:10:23Also, Miguel Perez, by name, a tag team partner with Argentina-Raca back in the 1960s.

01:10:28That's right.

01:10:29In the late 50s, Miguel Perez was the man that brought Argentina-Raca to this country.

01:10:34And what a tag team they were.

01:10:35They set all kinds of attendance records, all up and down the East Coast, West Coast,

01:10:39all over the United States and around the world.

01:10:41And his father, the man with the fur shirt on here, Miguel Perez, I guess, is retired now.

01:10:47He is retired, of course, now wearing the colors of Puerto Rico from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

01:10:5332 years old, 10 years a professional.

01:10:55And to Miguel Perez, I've watched him wrestle for the past few years, Japan and Mexico.

01:10:59He's really trimmed down recently, added speed, and also stronger cardiovascular.

01:11:04Juventud Guerrero coming off the top.

01:11:07Oh, man, did you see?

01:11:10You got a great look at that double drop kick off the top ropes.

01:11:13Juventud Guerrero, a tremendous aerial attack.

01:11:16And one thing about WCW as an organization, it has gotten so big and it has gotten so strong.

01:11:22But it's done so because of the phenomenal wrestlers that have come into WCW from all

01:11:27over the world, not just here in the United States, but from Japan, from Europe, from Canada,

01:11:33from Mexico, from South America, literally all over the world.

01:11:37We bring you the greatest athletes in this sport each and every week.

01:11:41And to see this kind of action, it's a great opportunity for everyone.

01:11:46Let's face it, this is where the big boys play and so many of the international stars

01:11:50looking to make a name for themselves right here in World Championship Wrestling.

01:11:53What I think excites everyone is all their styles are different.

01:11:56Everyone has to know their opponent's styles and everybody's styles change.

01:12:00During the match, it's very hard to keep up with all the action here that's going on WCW.

01:12:06Perez, so far unable to really handle the aerial attack of Juventud Guerrero.

01:12:11Watch this.

01:12:11Guerrero in a precarious position up on the top.

01:12:14And that is so dangerous.

01:12:16It is so incredibly dangerous for both combatants.

01:12:21The man initiating the attack runs the risk of bouncing his skull off that guardrail.

01:12:25The man getting hit can get crushed.

01:12:29And you talk about an opportunity to break a knee or break a leg or-

01:12:33What is he going to do now?

01:12:35He's got him up on the steel guardrail.

01:12:44And that is what I mean.

01:12:45I mean, you go to the well with those high-risk maneuvers one too many times.

01:16:12In tag team competition here in World Championship Wrestling,

01:16:15Ming and the Barbarian, the Faces of Fear, have been on quite a winning streak.

01:16:19Indeed, they have.

01:16:21The American males, on the other hand, are not as tight of a unit

01:16:26as we would have liked to have seen them.

01:16:28I don't know if it's because Scotty Riggs was off for a while with an injury.

01:16:32We don't know if it's ring rust, lack of communication, whatever it is.

01:16:37That communication, that continuity is the key to success in tag team wrestling.

01:16:43Ever since Scotty Riggs came back from the injury,

01:16:45it just seems like the American males are not on the same page.

01:17:42His management, quite frankly, has been more than just a little difficult to deal with.

01:18:19Maybe that's one of the things that bothers Hogan so much,

01:18:21is really Piper is a bigger icon in terms of entertainment

01:18:25than some people think that Hogan is.

01:18:28Certainly not Hogan.

01:18:29Well, the most interesting aspect of that video is that Piper apparently

01:18:32has a message for a Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

01:18:35And this is just exactly what we've been waiting to hear, what Piper has to say.

01:18:39Well, I don't know.

01:18:40Again, I don't know if that's the case or not.

01:18:42But we'll see it.

01:18:43You see for yourselves.

01:18:44We'll find out what the message is, if there is indeed a message.

01:18:47I mean, Eric, look at the situation.

01:18:49A lot of wrestlers have done parts in movies, parts on TV shows,

01:18:52been guests on this show.

01:18:53But nobody's made it big in the, let's say, Hollywood industry,

01:18:56except Hogan and Roddy Roddy Piper.

01:18:59Piper may even be a half a step ahead of Hogan.

01:19:01These two huge icons in our sports and in the entertainment business,

01:19:05they've got to meet.

01:19:06They've got to settle this.

01:19:08Well, it would without a doubt be the match of the decade,

01:19:11probably on par with the Holderfield Tyson fight this past Saturday night,

01:19:16and certainly one that fans all over the world would want to see.

01:19:19Whether or not we can get that match signed is another question.

01:19:22We will endeavor to do so.

01:19:24I will be on a plane tomorrow morning at 930 on my way to Los Angeles

01:19:29for a meeting with Piper.

01:19:30But in the meantime, maybe this video we'll see yet tonight will tell the story.
