00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:56Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
00:58In Venezuela, from the People's Balcony, President Nicolás Maduro informed that on
01:02Friday, August 2nd, the electoral power will be in charge of the review of the tally sheets
01:07thanks to the electoral appeal filed.
01:09During a meeting with the Popular Force of the local supply and production committees,
01:14the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro denounced the national and international extreme right
01:19wing for financing criminal groups to create chaos and unrest in the country.
01:24In this sense, the Venezuelan head of state informed that so far 1,200 people have been
01:29captured after the acts of violence registered in the country during the last 33 days after
01:35the extreme right wing lost the elections.
01:37On the other hand, the re-elected president expressed that on Friday, the electoral power
01:42would be in charge of proving the facts that by means of the electoral appeal he filed
01:47before the Supreme Court of Justice on Wednesday.
01:54The big mobilization, the huge mobilization that you made, it was impressive.
02:00I would like to congratulate the social forces of CLAP for this power of summoning, of convening.
02:10That huge, so beautiful this march.
02:26Thank you for so much love, for so much courage.
02:31Thank you for so much conscience.
02:33Look, there are more people coming.
02:37He also referred to the acts of vandalism suffered by the country after the elections
02:42and the investigations that are being carried out to ensure that they do not go unpunished.
02:49Also I sent a presidential commission to verify two places, because the criminals that threaten
03:00the people, to those criminals that attack hospitals, metro stations, police booths
03:14that attack houses, that attack the warehouses of CLAP, to those of them we are capturing
03:21them, to all of them.
03:31We have 1,200 arrested and we are going for 1,000 more.
03:43In Venezuela, the re-elected president Nicolás Maduro headed the National Productive Economy
03:47Council with the country's agro-industrial sector to boost domestic production.
03:51During a meeting in the Ezequiel Zamora Hall of the White Palace, the president was received
03:57by more than 170 businessmen from different areas of the country.
04:01The meeting fostered a dialogue between the public and private sectors to promote ideas
04:06that will turn Venezuela into an economic leader.
04:09He highlighted the reduction of inflation and the significant economic growth achieved
04:14by the country despite the adverse effects of the economic blockade imposed by the US.
04:19In this context, the president also commented on the acts of destabilization that the country
04:24has experienced in recent days and the measures taken by the government to ensure that these
04:29acts do not go unpunished.
04:33150 days for this year to be the best economic year of many years in Venezuela, in production,
04:53the improvement of all the indexes of an economy that has to be more autonomous, independent
05:01and robust.
05:05We have to win, all of us, we have to win, everybody.
05:09In the investment, the investors win, the workers win, the citizen wins.
05:18To win in quantity and in supply, in quality, the best quality and the price.
05:28Federal President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro denounced the fake news media campaign against
05:32the country generated by the United States.
05:35Regarding the pressure of the hegemonic communication outlets to disregard the electoral results,
05:40the Venezuelan head of state revealed that there is a fake news laboratory operating
05:44from the US.
05:45In this context, the president stressed that Venezuela won't fall in the hands of imperialism,
05:50fascism or criminals.
05:51Likewise, the leader reaffirmed his commitment to defend Venezuela's sovereignty and protect
05:56its people from the US imperialist advances.
06:06This whole campaign is fully based on fake news.
06:08We have already seen these fake news in the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.
06:13I don't know if you have seen this particular fake news, as there are several, and they
06:17are being spread all over the world, and people see it and believe it, because it is a laboratory
06:22that has a script, a laboratory of the terrorist Machado, the coward González Urrutia.
06:27It is a laboratory of lies, so we're facing the most criminal and dirty conspiracy we've
06:31ever seen in a long time in Venezuela.
06:37On Thursday, the Attorney General of Venezuela Tarek William Saab denounced the acts of vandalism
06:43that the extreme right wing is carrying out in the country to undermine peace and tarnish
06:47the results of the July 28th elections, in which President Maduro was the winner.
06:52Saab also reported on the investigations that are being carried out against the perpetrators
06:56of these acts of vandalism, stating that the Public Prosecutor's Office is currently looking
07:01into each of these criminal groups.
07:07The Attorney General referred to how the acts of vandalism have affected national symbols,
07:12showing conclusive evidence of this.
07:42Regarding these vandalic events, the Attorney General Tarek William Saab assured that the
08:12perpetrators are receiving orders from abroad.
08:15In the case of this press conference and the previous ones, you see them, the faces, and
08:24you speak to them, and you have a conversation with them, and they are literally psychos.
08:31They don't care about their beloved ones, but the intellectual authors ordered them.
08:42Why don't they appear in these actions directly?
08:49They ordered to do it many times from overseas, but obviously they already have this plan
08:59because all of this started on Monday.
09:07Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at TELUS in English

09:38Welcome back.
09:39In Tehran, thousands of people attend a funeral ceremony to honor Hamas Palestinian leader
09:44Ismail Haniyeh, assassinated by the Israeli regime in an attack against his residence
09:49in Tehran.
09:50On Thursday, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei,
09:55led the prayers to bid farewell to the political leader and his bodyguard, Wathim Abu Shaban.
10:01The remains were dropped with a Palestinian flag during the ceremony held in the courtyard
10:06of the Tehran University, which was attended by the President-elect Massoud Basseskian,
10:11senior Iranian military and officials from the resistance movement.
10:15Ismail Haniyeh was in the Iranian capital to participate in the inauguration of the
10:19new president, which took place on Tuesday.
10:26The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan condemned Israel's assassination of the Palestinian
10:30leader Ismail Haniyeh and ordered its condolences to the family of the leader.
10:36Yesterday's assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of the political bureau of Hamas
10:41in Tehran, was an act of dangerous escalation in an already volatile region and undermines
10:47efforts for peace.
10:50We express our condolences to his family and the Palestinian people.
10:54His killers must be held to account.
10:57Furthermore, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry denounced that Israel has unleashed a campaign
11:02of terror and war crimes against the Palestinian population.
11:05Since October 2023, Israel has unleashed a campaign of terror against the Palestinian
11:11people.
11:13Its war on Gaza and the inhumane siege in violation of international human rights and
11:18humanitarian law have resulted in misery, death and destruction.
11:24These acts constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
11:29We call upon the United Nations to uphold international law and to bring an end to the
11:33genocide of the people of Gaza.
11:36In this context, Palestinian citizens claim that Israel's attack represents a violation
11:41of Iranian national security and that the U.S. government is a complicit in these crimes.
11:47This is a violation of Iranian national security and I think events are leading to a regional
11:51war and the U.S. administration will pay the price because Washington gave the green light
11:56and the U.S. government is an accomplice in these crimes and the White House is managing
12:00this war as the U.S. is giving orders to Netanyahu to continue to send a message that there is
12:05no immunity for any leadership in the axis of resistance, nor for any country.
12:10On Wednesday, in the framework of a United Nations Security Council meeting, the Deputy
12:14Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations condemned the genocide
12:19perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip and affirmed that the United Nations fails in its
12:23duty to impose a ceasefire.
12:26Mr. President, it has been nearly 300 days since Israel launched its genocidal war on
12:33the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, a war that has gravely breached all tenets
12:39of international humanitarian and human rights law, a war that has flagrantly violated the
12:46UN Charter, including the cardinal principle regarding the sovereignty and territorial
12:53integrity of states, a war that threatens international peace and security.
12:59Yet Israel is being permitted to wage this war in broad daylight, with no restraints
13:05and no consequences.
13:07It is doing so willfully and wantonly, in spite of this Security Council's resolutions,
13:14in spite of the ICJ provisional measures orders, in spite of the global demands for a ceasefire.
13:22And still the Council is failing its duty to impose a ceasefire and bring a halt to
13:29this depravity.
13:31In this regard, the United Nations Authority referred to the daily suffering of the Palestinian
13:36population due to the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime.
13:41Every day brings more horror, loss and suffering for our people as Israeli occupying forces
13:48massacre Palestinian civilians, assassinate officials, kill humanitarian workers, medical
13:56personnel and journalists, abduct civilians and torture and rape them in Israeli jails,
14:03bomb and destroy Palestinian homes and infrastructure, and attack UN premises, including UNRWA schools
14:12sheltering millions of forcibly displaced civilians who are being deliberately starved
14:19and denied access to medical care and the most basic needs for human subsistence and
14:24dignity by an occupier, mercilessly chasing and hunting them down, repeatedly displacing
14:32them as they desperately search for safety in a place where no one and nowhere is safe.
14:42August 1st marks the 300th day of the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip since October
14:487th, 2023.
14:50Our correspondent in Gaza, Huda Hegazi, gives us more information in the following report.
14:54Let's see.
14:56Today marks exactly 300 days of this genocidal Israeli war here in the Gaza Strip, 300 days
15:04of continuous destruction, of continuous bombings, of continuous deaths, of continuous losses,
15:11300 days in which the people of Gaza have spent as a nightmare that has not ended until
15:15this moment.
15:16I, find myself in this moment in one of the simple examples of the massive destruction
15:21that the Israeli army has caused in all the Gaza Strip.
15:25According to several reports issued by UNICEF it has been assured that the destruction caused
15:29in the Gaza Strip has exceeded more than 50%, both structures and infrastructures.
15:34We must also say that in these 300 days Israel has killed more than 40,000 Gazanese and there
15:58are still another 10,000 under the rubble, so we are considering that the total number
16:02of fatalities in this genocidal war has already exceeded 50,000 and it is assured that 69%
16:08of this total are children and women.
16:10It must also be said that this war has injured approximately 100,000 Gazans, many of them
16:15children and women, who unfortunately need to be transferred abroad, but due to the systematic
16:20Israeli policy of closing the borders, many of these wounded will not be able to go abroad
16:25for treatment and their lives are in grave danger.
16:47Also in these 300 days, more than 80% of the Gazan population has been forcibly evacuated
16:52and have had to leave their homes, moved to live in other parts of the Gaza Strip and
16:56are now living in tents and refugee schools, a situation that cannot be described in words.
17:01The Gazans have had to endure the cold of winter and now the heat of summer, besides
17:05life in the tents has caused the spread of several diseases and epidemics, we are talking
17:10about hepatitis and a new virus that is spreading that causes paralysis in children and that
17:14is due to the lack of hygiene and living in tents, which is a life that even the animals
17:19could not stand.
17:38We are talking about 300 days of continuous suffering.
17:42Unfortunately, the world is still doing nothing.
17:46Also to say that in these 300 days not only Israel has killed innocent civilians but also
17:51journalists and media workers and the number of journalists who have died has already exceeded
17:55165.
17:56Therefore, today we are asking from here in the Gaza Strip to the free countries of the
18:01world and the international community to stop this genocidal Israeli war.
18:05The world must move and must see with its eyes what Israel is doing and stop it, together
18:09with the US administration, which is complicit in these systematic Israeli crimes in this
18:14area of the Gaza Strip.
18:21We have a final short break coming up but before we invite you to join our WhatsApp

18:36Final short break, don't go away.
18:44Welcome back to From the South.
18:46In Guinea, lawyers for former military leader Mosaddadi's Camara said on Thursday he will
18:51appeal this conviction on Wednesday for crime against humanity.
18:55He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges stemming from a 2009 massacre of more
19:00than 150 people during a pro-democracy rally in the capital Conakry.
19:06Demonstrators at the stadium were protesting against Camara's plans to return to run for
19:11president when soldiers opened fire on them.
19:14He had taken power in a coup the previous year.
19:17Camara fled the country after surviving an assassination attempt not longer after the
19:22massacre but returned from exile in September 2022 to face justice, insisting that he was
19:28innocent.
19:29More than 100 survivors and relatives of the victims testified in the trial that started
19:33in November 2022.
19:38Kenya and the Central African Republic have declared new outbreaks of mpox as African
19:43health officials scramble to steam the spread of the disease in regions lacking vaccines.
19:48Nairobi announced a new outbreak on Wednesday after a case was detected in a passenger travelling
19:53from Uganda to Rwanda at a border post in southern Kenya.
19:58The Central African Republic was the first to declare a new outbreak on Monday, saying
20:02it was spreading to its capital, Bangui.
20:05Mpox is a viral infection which can spread between people and occasionally from the environment
20:10to people via things and surfaces that have been touched by an infected person.
20:16In settings where the virus is presented among some wild animals, it can also be transmitted
20:21from infected animals to people who have contact with them.
20:29In Nigeria, thousands of mostly young people poured onto the streets on Thursday as they
20:34protested against the country's worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.
20:39Security forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters in several places.
20:43In Abuja, where a court granted an order late Wednesday to restrict the protest to a stadium,
20:49Nigerian police officers were seen firing tear gas to disperse a crowd of protesters
20:54that gathered a few kilometres from their presidential villa.
20:58Nigeria's public officials, frequently accused of corruption, are among the best paid in
21:02Africa, a stark contrast in a country that, despite being one of the continent's top
21:08oil producers, also has some of the world's poorest and hungriest people.
21:17The government of Algeria issued the recall of its ambassador to France with immediate
21:21effect after the European countries supported Morocco for the sovereignty of Western Sahara.
21:27The Algerian foreign minister Ahmed Attaf stated that Paris provided its honest and
21:31categorical support to the colonial fact imposed on Western Sahara.
21:36The authority referred to the occupation of this territory by the Moroccan Kingdom since
21:411975.
21:42Algeria maintains that the French government disregards international legality since it
21:47is set aside from the United Nations' efforts to complete the decolonisation of Western
21:52Sahara and takes up the cause of the denial of the rights of the Sahara with people to
21:57self-determination.
22:04The French approach does not serve peace in Western Sahara.
22:07It does not serve the search for a peaceful solution in the Western Sahara and does not
22:11go in the direction that could contribute to quickly bring together the necessary conditions
22:15for the desired peace and a solution to this conflict in accordance with what has been
22:19and is dictated by international legitimacy.
