00:43Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Television Studios
00:47in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:49In Lebanon, the health ministry confirmed the killing of at least 60 people during the
01:10last 24 hours amid ongoing Israeli shelling in the south.
01:14The Crisis Response Unit also reported 168 people injured during the Syrian regime's
01:18onslaught.
01:19Although it is detailed that more than 57 airstrikes were recorded against different
01:23areas south of Beirut and the Bekaa Valley, to date, the Lebanese government reports 1.2
01:29million people displaced due to the Tel Aviv regime's aggressions.
01:37On Saturday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Khalibaf expressed his solidarity with
01:42the people of Lebanon.
01:43Following continuous Israeli aggressions against their territory, Iranian lawmakers arrived
01:48in the city of Beirut on a plane that he flew himself amid threats and constant shelling
01:53from Israel.
01:54Bagher Khalibaf visited the houses, buildings and streets destroyed in southern Beirut resulting
02:00from the escalation by Israel.
02:02The Iranian lawmaker also met with Lebanese Interim Prime Minister Najib Moukhari to discuss
02:07issues of mutual interest including rising tensions in the Middle East.
02:13I have come to deliver a message from the leader of the Islamic Revolution and from
02:20the President of the Republic of Iran to the Lebanese people and to the resistance as it's
02:25always been the case.
02:26We stand with the Lebanese people and with the Lebanese government.
02:31The United Nations reported on Friday that the World Food Program has been unable to
02:35get food in Lebanon for more than seven days.
02:39The international organization pointed out that vital aid lines in Palestine have been
02:44cut off in the north of the Strip, preventing access to food and affecting more than one
02:48million people in the region.
02:49The United Nations warned that the distribution of the last food reserved to displaced families
02:54will barely last two weeks.
02:56It also reported that due to the limitation, distribution points and bakeries in northern
03:00Gaza have been forced to close and others are at risk of doing so.
03:05And in Palestine, Israeli bombardments and the humanitarian crisis put more than 200,000
03:14civilians at risk of death in Jabalia.
03:17Palestinian civil defense reported that Israeli occupation forces prohibited the entry of
03:20food, fuel and medical supplies, aggravating the situation for refugees in the area.
03:26It also denounced the new evacuation orders for Palestinian residents in the area as they
03:30consider that there are no safe places left in Gaza and that the occupation is carrying
03:35out attacks against residential areas, medical centers and mosques, which represents a clear
03:40violation of international humanitarian law.
03:43In this regard, the civil defense urged the international community to fulfill its humanitarian
03:47obligations and take immediate measures to stop the Israeli aggression against Palestinian
03:52citizens.
03:53And in Italy, on Saturday, social movements and human rights defenders spoke out against
04:04the Israeli genocide endured by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
04:07Italians took part in a mobilization to defend the Palestinian cause and demand an end to
04:13the war in Gaza.
04:14Demonstrators gathered at squares in Rome carrying Palestinian and Lebanese flags, chanted
04:20the patriotic songs and delivered speeches in remembrance of the Palestinians killed
04:24by Israel.
04:25Demonstrators denounced the many civilian fatalities in this conflict, with most of
04:30them being women and children.

04:50Welcome back.
04:54Latin America commemorates Indigenous Resistance Day in recognition of the indigenous people's
04:59heroism facing the Spanish colonization.
05:01The countries of the region remember the emblematic day according to their culture and idiosyncrasies.
05:07So is the case of Bolivia, where the day of decolonization exalts the recovery of its
05:11people's self-determination.
05:12Meanwhile, Ecuador seeks to make visible the impact of Spanish colonization on the day
05:19of interculturality and plurality.
05:21The day represents for the peoples of the region the rescue and vindication of anti-imperialist
05:26struggles.
05:27And in Venezuela, a heartfelt ceremony was held at the National Pantheon to commemorate
05:38532 years of indigenous resistance.
05:41Vice President for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, led the ceremony
05:45together with representatives of the indigenous peoples.
05:48With the hoisting of the tricolor flag in the National Pantheon, they honored the martyrs
05:52of the struggle against the Spanish invasion in 1492.
05:56During the day, rallies and debates on a decolonial and intercultural perspective are expected
06:02to take place.
06:08Let us be empowered by that spirit, by that untamed strength of our indigenous peoples,
06:14with simplicity and humility, but also with the highest dignity of our peoples.
06:21In this context of indigenous resistance commemoration, the Minister of Interior, Diosdado Cabello,
06:27denounced the genocide carried out by Israel against the peoples of the Middle East.
06:33They are the same ones who vindicate the genocide committed against the peoples of our America.
06:40They are the same ones who vindicate the genocide committed every day by the terrorists
06:47who govern the Zionist state of Israel.
06:50They are the same ones who came to this land to wipe out a people who lived in harmony,
06:56in community, a wise people.
06:59They are the same ones who for centuries have stolen the natural resources of the poor peoples.
07:11The Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela ratified a sentence that proved the re-election
07:15of President Nicolas Maduro.
07:17After the exhaustive analysis of the electoral process of last July 28th, the Supreme Court
07:22of Justice conferred the integrity of the results issued by the National Electoral Council,
07:27which showed that the elected candidate for the presidency was Nicolas Maduro.
07:30Likewise, the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice issued
07:34this October 11th declared inadmissible the request for constitutional review by sectors
07:39of the Venezuelan right-wing.
07:41The authorities point out that all the necessary evidence was examined, including a detailed
07:45and complete analysis on the deregulations contained in the legal system.
07:53The government of Venezuela sent more than 10 tons of humanitarian supplies to help the
07:59people of Lebanon and Syria, victims of constant attacks by Israel.
08:04Venezuela sent more than 11,000 items, including medical and surgical kits, food supplies and
08:09disposable diapers.
08:10A few days ago, the Bolivarian government made a call to the Venezuelan community to
08:14join this humanitarian aid collection.
08:18This October 12th, the Venezuelan foreign minister Ivan Hill assured that the supplies
08:22donated are on their way to Syria and Lebanon, a gesture of solidarity and support.
08:27The diplomat also assured that Venezuela remains firm in its commitment to support the nations
08:31of the Middle East in their struggle for peace and self-determination.
08:34Mexican, Parisian, and Colossian bound sent this October 11th a new request to Spain to
08:47issue a public apology to the native peoples of Mexico for the abuses committed during
08:51the conquest in 1521.
08:56We are going to show a video related to the day of October 12th, which for many years
09:00and still in Spain, they used to call it the day of the race, which has nothing to do with
09:05races because races do not exist in human beings.
09:08We are only one species and there are no races, biologically proven.
09:13Now they call it the day of Hispanic people.
09:15We are going to show a video of all the public apologies that have been made by presidents
09:19or governors from different parts of the world to see if tomorrow Spain is encouraged
09:23to start this process of public apology to the native peoples of Mexico.
09:42In Bolivia, emergency crews are working to reduce forest fires in at least seven municipalities
09:46of the country.
09:47The Forestry Development Department says that 70 active hotspots in the country have
09:52been reduced to 56.
09:54Authorities emphasize that respondents on the ground are cooling and putting out active
09:58fires with the support of free airplanes and international experts.
10:02Meanwhile, the Forest Oversight and Social Control Authority announced that 115 criminal
10:07proceedings are underway against citizens who are allegedly responsible for starting
10:12the fires in the departments of Santa Cruz and Pando.

10:42Welcome back.
10:43In Kenya, people riot in Kilifi against a proposal to build the country's first nuclear
10:47power plant near the coastal town.
10:50Protesters affirmed that the nuclear facility would disrupt economic activities such as
10:55fishing and ecotourism, the main sources of income for residents.
11:00They also denounced that they were not informed or consulted at any stage of the process.
11:06Demonstrators warn of possible displacement caused by the construction.
11:10The proposal is part of Kenya's long-term strategy to reduce its reliance on hydroelectric
11:15and fossil fuel energy sources by 2034.
11:23We say that this project has a lot of negative effects.
11:27There will be malformed children born out of this place, fish will die, and our forest
11:31araboko soko, which is known to harbor birds from abroad, will be lost and the nuclear
11:36plant will cause us more harm than the benefits.
11:39Our main source of income here is ecotourism.
11:42We depend on the environment.
11:43We host the only East African coastal forests.
11:47We host the Watamu Marine Park.
11:49We host the largest mangrove plantation in Kenya.
11:54We do not want nuclear to come and mess up our ecosystem.
11:57It will kill fish.
11:58I have been a fisherman for 20 years.
12:00I survive by fishing, and if they erect a nuclear plant here the breeding sites for
12:04fish will all be destroyed and won't exist.
12:10Russia's defense ministry said that Ukraine has suffered over 22,000 casualties in the
12:15Kursk district.
12:16Russian military authorities said that Northern Group units repelled four attacks by Ukraine
12:21aimed at residential areas in that region.
12:24Reportedly, Ukrainian militias lost over 400 troops and 18 armed vehicles over the last
12:3024 hours.
12:32Also following combat in the border area, Ukraine has lost 150 tanks and 907 combat
12:38vehicles.
12:44And Chinese Prime Minister Lin Qian is in Vietnam for an official visit aimed at strengthening
12:49and broadening cooperation between the two countries.
12:52China's Prime Minister arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, for a three-day official visit.
12:58The Chinese Premier is scheduled to meet with Vietnamese President Donald Trump and
13:02with other senior Vietnamese officials.
13:04They are expected to sign collaboration agreements to implement a railway project to further boost
13:10bilateral trade.
13:11This official visit is part of efforts aimed at strengthening bilateral and diplomatic
13:16ties vis-à-vis the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between
13:22the two countries.
13:37An India traditional folk theatre offers a stage performance in New Delhi on Ramlila,
13:43which tells the religious epic Ramayana.
13:46This activity is a dramatic re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama, who is celebrated during
13:51the Dussehra festival as the vanquisher of the mythological demon Ravana.
13:56In the scenes, the performers wear crowns and ordinary costumes, who keep the audience
14:01captivated with narration, melodramatic dialogue, dances and songs, usually with a live orchestra
14:09using local instruments.
14:10Ramlila is one of the most symbolic tales of the Hindu religion, which tells the story
14:16of the exile of Lord Rama with his wife and brother, as well as the abduction of the woman
14:21by the demon king Ravana and the great battle to rescue her.
14:30And in Mexico, the Socalor International Book Fair began.
14:34Correspondent Daniel Rosas has more details.
14:39When April traveled from the port of Veracruz to Mexico City to spend a few days of rest
14:43with her family, she never imagined that she would find an international book fair that
14:47would impress her in such a way.
14:51I have never seen such a magnitude of books, I am a fan of reading and all that and I am
14:55really excited to see so many people, so many books and so many publishers.
15:05These halls, located in the heart of Mexico, are filled with offers of all kinds of books,
15:10but there is also art, games and, of course, music.
15:25Families, couples, individuals, all recognize the value of the fair that brings together
15:30both large and small publishers in Mexico's main public square.
15:36Every time the book fair is on I come because I like to read a lot, so I always come to
15:43see what new books we can take with us.
15:48And we even start to introduce her to reading.
15:54There are big publishing houses, also many bookshops and also, as is my case, independent
16:00publishers and independent writers.
16:06Since the left has governed the Mexican capital, the fair has developed and is now in its 24
16:11edition.
16:12It has even been a witness and support in the face of disasters, as in 2017 when an
16:17earthquake paralyzed central Mexico.
16:20Ten days later we inaugurated the Zócalo Fair.
16:24It was dedicated to the rescuers and volunteers and there was a memorial space as well, so
16:29that people could have that closeness and that affection and that empathy.
16:36But the international book fair in the Zócalo is also a space where governmental and social
16:40organizations promote reading and specialized topics.
16:45Our objective is to distribute our material.
16:48We bring everything at 50%.
16:50It's just to recover the cost of the book.
16:56The focus is feminisms, social justice, indigenous struggles, LGBT struggles.
17:06And we always try to prioritize women's voices, peripheral voices, authors or people who have
17:11always been ignored.
17:16The international book fair in the Zócalo is considered the second most important in
17:20Mexico, only after the Guadalajara Fair due to the number of people it attracts.
