00:14unable to get food into Gaza for 11 days.
00:19The government of Nicaragua announced the breaking of diplomatic relations with Israel
00:24following rejection of genocide perpetrated by the Sionist Army against the people of
00:28Palestine.
00:29The government of Venezuela strongly rejected the renewal of the International Independent
00:37Fact-Finding Mission by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resus Studios in Havana,
00:50Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
01:08The United Nations reported on Friday that the World Food Program has been unable to
01:12get food into Gaza for 11 days.
01:15The international organization pointed out that vital aid lines in Palestine have been
01:19cut off in the north of the Strip, preventing access to food and affecting more than one
01:24million people in the region.
01:26The United Nations warned that the distribution of the last food reserves to displaced families
01:30will barely last two weeks.
01:32They also reported that due to the limitation, distribution points and bakeries in northern
01:37Gaza have been forced to close and others are at risk of doing so.
01:46Also in Palestine, more than 20 people were killed after a new Israeli attack on the northern
01:50Gaza Strip.
01:51Dozens of injured and missing were reported as the Sionist regime shelled the town of
01:55Jabalia.
01:56Meanwhile, paramedics and rescue teams recovered the bodies of four members of the Nafham family
02:01from the rubble in the town of Bil-Nahya, west of the Jabalia refugee camp, following
02:06the Israeli airstrike that targeted the town.
02:08The bodies of the victims were transported to Kamal At-Wan Hospital.
02:16The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon denounced new Israeli aggressions against
02:21its facilities.
02:22In a statement, the entity warned about recent explosions against its headquarters in the
02:26Lebanese town of Nakura, which has been hit for the second time in the last 48 hours.
02:32The mission also emphasized that it was a serious incident.
02:35The entity reiterated that any deliberate attack against peacekeepers is a serious violation
02:39of international humanitarian law and of Resolution 1701, adopted by the UNIFIL mandate.
02:47Furthermore, the Israeli Occupation Forces shelled the Iranian Field Hospital of the
02:52Red Crescent on the Syrian-Lebanon border.
02:55In response to this crime, the Iranian government wrongly condemned the new aggressions against
02:59the country's health system.
03:01Since September 2030, Israel has intensified its attacks against Lebanon, killing more
03:05than 2,000 Lebanese, including children and women, and causing the displacement of more
03:10than 200,000 civilians inside the country and over 400,000 towards the Syrian border.
03:28Welcome back.
03:29The government of Venezuela strongly rejected the renewal of the International Independent
03:32Fact-Finding Mission by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
03:35Through a statement, Caracas described the mission as shameful and recalled that it was
03:39created by the government of the failed cartel known as the Lima Group, with exclusively
03:43political objectives at the service of the government of the United States.
03:47Caracas condemned such a renewal of the mission, knowing that it is a clear sign of the misguidance
03:52of the institutions of the United Nations.
03:55Mr. President, in 2019, the United States regime, the greatest violator of human rights
04:17in history, the European Union and the extinct Lima Group, designed this resolution with
04:23the purpose of applying what they called the maximum pressure on Venezuela through
04:28the manipulation of the tools and purposes of this council.
04:32They sought to impose a failed doctrine of regime change, which began by recognizing
04:37an imaginary acting government, sworn in a public square, elected by no one, without
04:49popular support, to which no minutes were requested, but which nevertheless justified
04:55the overthrow of a popular government that the Washington regime did not like.
05:00Mr. President, 94 percent of the co-sponsors of this resolution acknowledge the imaginary
05:06acting government, without minutes and without election.
05:10Is there any doubt about the politicization of this document?
05:14Is there any doubt that its objective is not human rights?
05:25The UN emphasized that voting against the fact-finding missions is a denunciation of
05:31the historical injustice that the peoples of the global south have suffered.
05:36Mr. President, the budget foreseen for the two mandates of this resolution is US$8,995,500.
05:49That is to say, this document of interference supposes a daily expense of US$12,322.
06:01How long will this council allow the waste of money for politicized mandates that have
06:05no tangible or significant achievements in human rights cooperation?
06:10Finally, we do not recognize imposed resolutions.
06:14Voting against this political document is a denunciation of the historical injustice
06:19against the peoples of the global south.
06:22Thank you very much, Mr. President.
06:29Latin America commemorates Indigenous Resistance Day in recognition of the indigenous peoples'
06:33heroism facing the Spanish colonization.
06:36The countries of the region remember the emblematic date according to their culture and idiosyncrasy,
06:41such as in the case of Bolivia, where the day of decolonization exalts the recovery
06:45of its peoples' self-determination.
06:46Meanwhile, Ecuador seeks to make visible the impact of Spanish colonization on the day
06:51of interculturality and plurality.
06:54The date represents for the peoples of the region the rescue and vindication of anti-imperialist
06:58struggles.
07:06And in Venezuela, a heartfelt ceremony was held at the National Pantheon to commemorate
07:11532 years of indigenous resistance.
07:14Vice President for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, led the ceremony
07:18together with representatives of the indigenous peoples.
07:21The hoisting of the three-colored flag in the National Pantheon, they honored the martyrs
07:25of the struggle against the Spanish invasion in 1492.
07:29During the day, rallies and debates on a decolonial and intercultural perspective are expected
07:34to take place.
07:42In Colombia, the Bolivar Square in the capital was the scene of two activities that reflect
07:46the reality of a country marked by violence and political persecution.
07:49Our colleague Hernan Tobar with the details.
07:55Survivors of the leftist political party Patriotic Union, victims of paramilitary political violence
08:00in Colombia and all the regions of the state, leaving at least 521 forced disappearances,
08:063,170 extrajudicial executions, 1,526 displacements, 64 cases of torture.
08:15In the face of local impunity, the victims resorted to international justice and in compliance
08:20with the order of the International Court of Human Rights.
08:23The state must recognize its responsibility for the extermination of the Patriotic Union.
08:31They lasted many years killing us, persecuting us for thinking differently.
08:36More than 6,400 victims also from the Patriotic Union and of course many union leaders murdered,
08:42social leaders, also the students, the housewives.
08:54All our leaders were being military targets, and now there is another context, because
08:59it is a coup against the president, in which some organs of justice are involved, especially
09:03some high courts and well, we also have the National Electoral Council.
09:16In this space also converge precisely some social sectors that chose the progressive
09:20political alternative represented by President Gustavo Petro, today pointed out and persecuted
09:26by the strategy of legal warfare that seeks to remove him from the presidency.
09:31A war against thinking and acting differently from the oligarchies that has claimed victims
09:35and that now through legal means seeks to undermine democracy in Colombia.
09:44Our presence here is to tell the National Electoral Council that what they are committing
09:48is a crime and therefore obeys dark political motives in that they are violating the law
09:52and are giving a coup d'etat to President Gustavo Petro, who was elected by all Colombians
10:06in clear and clean elections, which no country in the world dared to put on trial.
10:18The National Electoral Council will have to retract all those things it is saying and
10:22the notification it sent, because they do not have the capacity nor are they authorized
10:30by the constitution to point the finger at the president.
10:37Unfortunately, these actions, which were expected to be attended by President Gustavo Petro,
10:45were not possible due to the health problems of the president.
10:48The acknowledgement of responsibility by the state to the victims of the patriotic
10:51union will be rescheduled for a new date, and the mobilizations in support of him and
10:56his government will continue to take place in the country.

11:19Don't go away!
11:20In the United States, nearly 2 million homes are still without electricity 48 hours after
11:46Hurricane Milton passed through the state of Florida, while 17 people died after the
11:50cyclone hit.
11:51According to information provided by the portal PowerOutages.us, approximately 1.9 million
11:56families and businesses were without electric service in the countries of the central west
12:01coast of the state the most affected.
12:05The state's Governor Ron DeSantis declared that a death toll could rise as rescue efforts
12:09are still underway to finalize the total number of victims.
12:12The onslaught of Hurricane Milton also left floods and hundreds of homes destroyed.
12:16In a statement to the media, President Joe Biden said the material damage was $50 billion.
12:41In Kenya, people are rallying cliffy against a proposal to build the country's first
12:45nuclear power plant near the coastal town.
12:47Protesters affirmed that the nuclear facility would disrupt economic activities such as
12:51fishing and ecotourism, the main sources of income for residents.
12:56They also denounced that they were not informed or consulted at any stage of the process.
13:01Demonstrators warned of possible displacement caused by the construction.
13:06The proposal is part of Kenya's long-term strategy to reduce its reliance on hydroelectric
13:11and fossil fuel energy sources by 2034.
13:19We say that this project has a lot of negative effects.
13:22There will be malformed children born out of this place, fish will die, and our forest
13:26Araboko Sokok, which is known to harbour birds from abroad, will be lost and the nuclear
13:31plant will cause us more harm than the benefits.
13:34Our main source of income here is ecotourism.
13:37We depend on the environment.
13:38We host only East African coastal forests.
13:42We host the Watamu Marine Park.
13:44We host the largest mangrove plantation in Kenya.
13:49We do not want nuclear to come and mess up our ecosystem.
13:52It will kill fish.
13:53I have been a fisherman for 20 years.
13:55I survive by fishing, and if they erect a nuclear plant here the breeding sites for
13:59fish will all be destroyed and won't exist.
14:08In India, traditional folk theatre offers a stage performance in New Delhi on Ramlila,
14:19which tells the religious epic of Ramayana.
14:22This activity is a dramatic reenactment of the life of Lord Rama, who is celebrated during
14:27the Dussehra festival as the vanquisher of the mythological demon Ravana.
14:32In the scenes, the performers wear crowns and ornate costumes, which keep the audience
14:36captivated with narration, melodramatic dialogue, dances, and songs, usually with a live orchestra
14:42using local instruments.
14:44Ramlila is one of the most symbolic tales of the Hindu religion, which tells the story
14:48of the exile of Lord Rama with his wife and brother, as well as the abduction of the woman
14:53by the demon king Ravana and the great battle to rescue her.
14:59We have come to the end of this news brief.
