00:00Voting abroad for the Ecuadorian general elections continues.
00:13In the meantime, the electoral silence is in force in the country.
00:21Brazilian social and political organizations denounce inhumane treatment given to over
00:25a hundred migrants deported from the United States.
00:32Hamas and Israel held the fifth round of prisoner exchange.
00:34The Saudi regime released 183 Palestinian prisoners.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resus studios in Havana,
00:48Cuba.
00:49We begin with the news.
01:05Over 456,000 Ecuadorians living abroad were called to exercise their right to vote in
01:10the general elections while in the national territory, the electoral silence is in force
01:14after the end of a campaign marked by violence, insecurity and institutional crisis.
01:20The process began this Saudi abroad, being Australia the first country where the election
01:24begins and for such purpose, voting tables were installed in the consulates of Canberra
01:29and Sydney.
01:30Likewise, there are polling stations in several cities in Europe, Asia, Africa, the United
01:35States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.
01:37This Sunday, nearly 14 million Ecuadorians are called to the polls to choose the next
01:42president that will govern the country until 2029, as well as 151 members of the National
01:48Assembly and five members of the Indian Parliament.
01:57Let's now welcome once more our special envoy in Ecuador, Jorge Gestoso, for all the details
02:03of what's happening ahead of the election day tomorrow in Ecuador.
02:08Welcome Gestoso again to From the South.
02:10What's new?
02:11What's new from there?
02:12Well, there is a new motive of concern, if you want, that is going through the social
02:27media and one of the candidates, we're talking about Luisa, the candidate from the Revolucion
02:35Ciudadana, Luisa González, that is one of the favorites according to the polls to win
02:43the election or at least to go to a second round, is reflecting that there are at least
02:51rumors that could be trying to put together in place a parallel voting system, sort of
03:01parallel to the CNE, the National Electoral Council, that could involve the militaries
03:10passing information to that parallel council of elections.
03:18That has been described as a major concern by Luisa González in her posting in the social
03:28media and she says that if by any chance they will try to implement something on that
03:34matter that could be totally inconstitutional.
03:39Before that, already there has been concerns about the transparency and the way that the
03:45president candidate, Daniel Novoa, was handling this election because, for example, one of
03:52the candidates has been eliminated from the race, we're talking Mr. Topic, and that has
04:01been involved a series of irregularities on his part that has not been proven and he concerns
04:10he, Mr. Topic, mentions that he is being treated unfairly to get him out of the campaign.
04:20So we are reaching the beginning of election day tomorrow, but we have increased concern
04:29about the possibility of irregularities that has not been confirmed, but it's going on
04:36on the air at this moment.
04:40Election day is going to end at 5 p.m. and the National Electoral Council, the CNE, says
04:50that in about 90 minutes after the closing of the polls, they could get the first tendency
04:57of what is going on, the results.
04:59So that's the latest, Luis, from here, from Quito.
05:05Mr. Gestoso, you were referring about the concern in terms of transparency.
05:09Are there any concerns?
05:10Can you tell us about security on how the polling day will go on as this electoral campaign
05:15has been marked by loss of violence and all the denunciations of the people that have
05:21disappeared and the killing at the hands of military officials?
05:26Can you tell us anything about that?
05:28Well, that's exactly what they are smelling, that could be trouble.
05:40For example, the speculation is that those militaries involved in the security of the
05:48polling places and in the transportation of the polling information could be taking photos,
05:57could be taking pictures of that issue, and then with that information mount a parallel,
06:05again, a parallel system to count the votes.
06:09And that is the question mark until which point security is absolutely confirmed and
06:16is assured by the government, by the state, especially when the president is at the same
06:23time, one, not only the son of the richest person in the country, but also a candidate
06:32that has been investing a lot, a lot of money, personal money, for example, $2 million only
06:39in social media in order to be present in a way that everybody that has been watching
06:48this process says that the field is not level, is level in the favor of the candidate presidents
06:56in the war.
06:59Thank you, Estoso, for this information coming at you from the South.
07:04We'll be in touch for an upcoming news brief to continue having the latest from Quito.
07:10Let's continue with our news.
07:11In Brazil, social and political organizations are denouncing inhumane treatment given to
07:15over a hundred migrants deported from the United States.
07:19Brazilian authorities said 111 deportees from the United States underwent mistreatment during
07:24their detention and subsequent transfer back to Brazil.
07:28The returnees said they were ashamed and that they were denied any food during the flight
07:32to Fortaleza Airport in Ceará State.
07:35To prevent human rights violations in the case of deported Brazilian citizens, the government
07:40has designated a task force to liaison with the U.S. Embassy to ensure the exchange of
07:45information on the deportees and to guarantee peace, security, and a dignified treatment
07:50to them.
07:56We have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Teles
07:59Flinglish, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
08:04Stay with us.
08:10Welcome back.
08:15After the roof collapsed in one of Brazil's most important historic landmarks, Glen One
08:20and in June Five, the Attorney General's office is giving responsible parties three days to
08:24explain what happened.
08:26From Salvador, Bahia, our correspondent Brian Muir with more.
08:30Earlier this week, the building you see behind me, San Francisco de Assis Church, built in
08:37the 1600s and recognized as one of the seven wonders of Portuguese architecture in the
08:42world, suffered a tragic accident when the ceiling collapsed on a group of tourists,
08:49killing one and injuring five.
08:51For three years, IFAN, the National Historic Preservation Institute, had warned the church
08:59of structural damage, demanded that reforms take place.
09:04They were put in process, but apparently the problem with these reforms is that since
09:09it's historic landmark architecture, it takes a while to find a company that's willing and
09:15able to do it without damaging the precious artworks inside.
09:19Well, those artworks were severely damaged last week when a bunch of paintings from the
09:251700s were completely destroyed.
09:27Now the city government of Salvador has canceled some pre-carnival activities that were supposed
09:32to take place here on this square this weekend, and the finger-pointing has begun.
09:37The public prosecutor's office has given both the church and the government Historic Preservation
09:43Institute three days to explain how this happened and what can be done in the future to prevent
09:50similar accidents from taking place.
10:02Israeli occupation authorities released the fifth batch of Palestinian prisoners on Saturday
10:13in accordance with the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
10:16The Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Palestinian Authority's Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs
10:21Commission said those released included 18 individuals serving life sentences, 54 others
10:26with long-term sentences, and 111 detainees from Gaza detained after October 7, 2023.
10:33Authorities added that 42 of the prisoners released are from the West Bank, 3 from Jerusalem,
10:37and 27 from Gaza.
10:39As the release occurred, Israeli forces turned the area near Ofr Prison west of Ramallah into
10:45a military zone, blocking families from gathering to welcome their loved ones and firing live
10:49ammunition and tear gas at them.
10:56The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education have requested the international
11:00community to protect schools and universities in the occupied West Bank from continuous
11:04Israeli attacks.
11:06In a statement, the ministry denounced the destruction of schools in Gaza and that 100
11:11educational institutions have been forced to stop classes due to the war in the north
11:15of the occupied territory.
11:17The document also denounces that such aggressions are a flagrant violation of human rights,
11:22especially of the rights of children.
11:24Therefore, they have urged the United Nations Children's Fund, the International Committee
11:28of the Red Cross, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to take
11:32action.
11:39In our news in Lebanon, the statements against the Lebanese resistance made by the Vice President
11:42of the United States' Mission to the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus, who said that Lebanon
11:47had been defeated by Israel, sparked an outburst of anger among the Lebanese people.
11:52Many gathered near the international airport of Beirut to express their discontent with
11:57Ortagus' words after her meeting with the Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
12:02Different parties and political figures in the country rejected her statements defending
12:05the role played by Hezbollah in the political landscape.
12:08Among these figures is the Shiite Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Kabalan, who expressed that the
12:14affairs of Lebanon belong only to the Lebanese and that a government without Hezbollah would
12:18lead the country to a catastrophe of constitutional magnitude.
12:27We came to tell her that, for us, according to the Lebanese constitution, the Israeli
12:32enemy is a common enemy of all Lebanese.
12:35Therefore, this insult, especially when she thinks our enemy from the podium of the Presidency
12:39of the Republic, is an insult to every Lebanese household.
12:47We came to participate in the rally, we're not here to cause to vandalize or block roads.
12:53We just want to make our voices heard because we have sacrificed blood and lost dear ones
12:57in this country, so we cannot accept that a US envoy or anyone undermines our sovereignty
13:02and makes such statements from the Presidential Palace, which must be condemning Israeli attacks
13:07and the ceasefire violations happening in the South.
13:12In South Africa, people are reacting against US President Donald Trump's decision to cut
13:16back financial support over alleged human rights violations in the country.
13:20The US government has indefinitely suspended all humanitarian aid to South Africa, while
13:24pointing fingers at Cape Town authorities for allowing attacks against African communities
13:29who are descendants of European settlers.
13:32People in South Africa are rebuking such allegations by US President Donald Trump and
13:36have encouraged him to visit the country to see for himself the reality and living conditions
13:41of the people.
13:43There's no such thing that I've read or experienced or seen on our social media in South Africa
13:51that really has a connotation around white people being mistreated in this country.
13:58He should have actually come from the Americas to South Africa to come and see what was happening
14:04for himself and not just take the word of an Elon Musk who hasn't lived in this country
14:09for the longest of time, who doesn't even relate to South Africans.
14:13We have to carry on and wait, and I believe we are.
14:17For a developing country, I believe we are carrying our support.
14:20We do need support from external countries, but that support has to be without any consequences
14:27or lines, you know.
14:30We should only take support that is given without any lines attached, whether it's China
14:38or the USA.
14:40The support should be to help people, not to influence the country politically.
14:49We have a second short break coming up, but before, we invite you to visit our YouTube
14:52channel at TeleSol English, there you'll be able to re-watch our interviews, top stories,

15:09Welcome back.
15:10In India, vote counting began after the state legislative elections were held.
15:14After a record turnout of more than 60% in the city of New Delhi, the first results showed
15:18that the party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi won.
15:21According to the results, Modi's BJP party won some 40 seats in the 70-member assembly
15:27displacing the AAP party that has ruled New Delhi since 2015.
15:32Citizens pointed out that the BJP's victory is mainly due to the mismanagement in the
15:36previous government and corruption scandals against it.
15:43The outgoing Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Khetrival, did not do good work and the people
15:48got fed up so the people of Delhi gave victory to BJP after 27 years.
15:55We have been deceived.
15:57Most of the public have decided winning and losing is a norm, there must be weaknesses,
16:02and we will work on improving them.

16:31view of the fires, the high temperatures and the lack of humidity in the country.
16:36During the meeting, authorities agreed to implement a plan to suspend agricultural and
16:39forestry activities for the duration of the contingency.

17:15search for missing and minimized casualties.
17:18The Ministry of Emergency Management said two people had been rescued while two hunters
17:23were relocated.
17:24Premier Li Qian asked for an investigation and inspection of potential geological hazard
17:28risks in nearby areas.
17:30He also called for further residents who may be at risk to be evacuated to prevent another
17:36disaster.
