00:00£250,000. It's an acorn which we want grown into a great oak tree.
00:09Lord Sugar's on the hunt for a brand new business partner.
00:12If you think this process is tough, it's just got a whole lot tougher. Over the next 12
00:18weeks, you are out of your comfort zone.
00:21Ready to fight for his funding, 18 aspiring entrepreneurs.
00:26Supply and demand, that's what this is about. I'm demanding the answers, you better bloody
00:32well supply them.
00:34On the table, a quarter million pound investment. And a 50-50 partnership with Britain's toughest
00:42backer.
00:43You haven't used any of your skills, any of your knowledge, mistake on that, mistake on
00:48this, straight in the bin.
00:52It's a deal worth battling for.
00:55Do not talk over me, I am talking, OK?
00:5818 candidates.
01:00Yeah!
01:01Gesturians, out of the way.
01:02We're going to be explosive.
01:0412 testing weeks.
01:06I really don't know what to do.
01:07I messed up a bit, didn't I?
01:08Oh my God.
01:09One life-changing opportunity.
01:12You're fired, you're fired. This is a bad call on strategy, you're fired.
01:25Previously on The Apprentice.
01:28You're going to go and open up your own discount store.
01:31The teams went north.
01:33We are Manchester's newest discount store.
01:36As prices went south.
01:38Rock bottom prices, come on in.
01:40At Scottshop.
01:42I want that stuff in there.
01:44Speak to me like that again.
01:45Sparks flew.
01:46I sold the most yesterday.
01:47You did yesterday, but this morning you didn't.
01:49Whatever, whatever.
01:50Oh my gosh.
01:51But sales stalled.
01:54Do you want to come and look at our new discount store?
01:56No.
01:57On the other team.
01:59Does Jummy Dodgers go with washing powder?
02:01For retailer Gary.
02:03You're making the manager very happy.
02:05Profits piled up.
02:078, 9, 10, we'll call it £11.
02:09And in the boardroom, his store won the war.
02:13You made over £1,000 in the course of this exercise.
02:17Very good.
02:18On the losing team.
02:20Yasmin Scott bumped heads in the shop.
02:23I didn't say that.
02:25Scott pointed the finger.
02:27You're not here for serious business.
02:29You haven't seen my business plan.
02:31How dare you sit there and say that.
02:33And Sam was shown the door.
02:35The last time he was in this position, it was that close, Sam.
02:41You're fired.
02:43Thank you, thank you anyway.
02:45He became the 9th casualty of the boardroom.
02:49Now, 9 remain to fight for the chance to become Lord Sugar's business partner.
03:036am.
03:08Good morning.
03:09Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at the Museum of Childhood.
03:12The cars will be outside in 20 minutes.
03:14Thank you.
03:16Guys, wait there for 20 minutes. Museum of Childhood.
03:19We've got that winning fever. It's like football teams, isn't it?
03:22Winning breeds winning, doesn't it?
03:24Selena throws negativity into every single project we turn up on.
03:27And Scott, if you don't agree with something he says, he starts getting into a sulk.
03:45Are you going to be PM again?
03:46No, it's just been horrendous.
03:50Throughout the test, there's a lot of people who have been good at one particular sort of thing.
03:55Joe, for example, is a very strong salesperson.
03:57But I think that there's other things that he hasn't proved yet.
04:01But then you're not a strong seller negotiator.
04:09The Museum of Childhood.
04:12Under one roof, Britain's largest collection of kids' things.
04:27Good morning.
04:28Good morning, Lord Sugar.
04:30Children's parties are a great industry.
04:33Believe it or not, over £2 billion a year is spent by parents putting on parties for children.
04:40And that's what this next task is all about. Party planning.
04:44I've lined up a client for each team.
04:47They're parents looking to hold a birthday party for their child.
04:51And what you need to do is to throw the birthday boy or girl a party to remember.
04:58Those clients have an initial budget of £2,000.
05:02The winning team is the team that makes the most amount of profit.
05:06Think carefully about this.
05:09Spend too little, you're going to put on a rubbish event.
05:12And the client will have the right to demand money back.
05:16Spend too much, you're not going to make much profit.
05:19Now, Selina, this is right up your alley.
05:23You do events, right? So you're going to be the project manager.
05:27Gary, you were the project manager last week.
05:30Yes, Lord Sugar.
05:31But I also understand that you want to start an events company.
05:34So I'm going to suggest that you are the project manager again.
05:39Now, Connexus, you haven't got a great track record for winning.
05:44To give you a little boost, Selina, your choice.
05:49Pick one of the people from that team to come over and help you.
05:53Um, I would like to pick Richard.
05:57Richard, move over to this team.
06:04I'll see you back in the boardroom in a couple of days' time.
06:07Off you go.
06:12I think coming into you guys, I can feel, like, loads more energy.
06:15Breath of fresh air. Richard, you are a breath of fresh air.
06:19I don't have children and I don't like them,
06:21but that's not to say that I'm not brilliant at putting on children's events.
06:24We're going to win. Definitely.
06:26Tomorrow, the teams will put on their parties.
06:29Today, a chance to meet the clients.
06:32What we're going to do is go in there and get information.
06:35That's how I always deal with clients at home.
06:37We go in, we do information gathering.
06:39The main focal point is I actually want to listen to them
06:42and let them tell us what their expectations are.
06:44I've worked in retail for the last six and a half years,
06:46but my business plan is all about creating events and entertainment.
06:49Now, whilst it might not specialise in children's parties,
06:52the principle is still the same.
06:54For Gary, birthday boy Jamal.
06:56Good morning. How are you doing?
06:58I'm Yusuf.
06:59Holding the purse strings, parents Julie and Yusuf.
07:03Thanks ever so much for your time. You're welcome.
07:05Obviously, it would be great just to hear a bit about yourselves
07:07and come up with some proposals for a great day.
07:09OK.
07:10Anything you're really into at the moment?
07:12Active stuff. Yeah, outdoors, activities.
07:14We'll see what we can do with that.
07:16And what song foods are you into?
07:18Burgers. Burgers, don't you? Yeah.
07:20Man of my own heart.
07:21What sort of cake do you want, Jamal?
07:23Chocolate. Chocolate cake, fantastic.
07:25I think Gary and his team have done very well.
07:27Clearly listened to what the client wants.
07:29Very good rapport with the family, which I think is very, very important.
07:32Is there any no-no's that you want us to avoid?
07:35I've got a nut allergy. A nut allergy?
07:37It's a very severe allergy. It's quite key.
07:39We need Julie to feel comfortable during the day.
07:42Yeah, fantastic.
07:44Meeting their clients, 13-year-old Nicole and mum Melissa.
07:48Hello.
07:49Selena's team.
07:50Really, we're here to get some information
07:52so that we can prepare the best party for you.
07:54There's actually a lot of activities that we can do,
07:56maybe karaoke, possibly dance-off.
07:58We could also do a treasure hunt.
08:00That might be a little bit young for you.
08:01How do you feel about face painting or, like, a glam booth?
08:04Do you like dressing up in, like, fancy dress?
08:06Would you be interested in, like, fire breathers or stilt walkers?
08:09I've been a fire breather and circus girls performer for over ten years.
08:15Selena is so keen to get down to business
08:17and ask her questions and get answers
08:20that she actually was a little bit scary.
08:22So you went to, like, hair products and make-up?
08:26Quite strange for me to say someone's scary,
08:28but she's down there in your face asking lots of questions
08:31and I think a more gentle approach
08:33might have elicited the answers more quickly.
08:35Considering it's Nicole's party,
08:37not something too contrived, I suppose.
08:39I also think not too girly as well.
08:42I like sports.
08:43We could have some sporting activities.
08:45Yeah.
08:46So obviously we're going to work within the budget
08:48but then there's other things that may be out of budget
08:50that we can suggest.
08:51The parties have a starting price of £2,000.
08:54Did you want to give anything out at the end of the party?
08:56Any gifts to the guests?
08:58But teams can offer extras to try and up the spend.
09:01Normally it's just your traditional party bags.
09:03Is it worth taking some contact details as well
09:05and then we run through some proposals
09:07and see what we can do to make it memorable?
09:09And we'll look forward to speaking with you soon.
09:11Thank you very much.
09:12OK. Pleasure.
09:13Selena thinks she asked all the right questions.
09:15She didn't miss a trick.
09:17Except one.
09:18Contact details.
09:20They want to upsell products to the clients.
09:22How are they going to get in touch with Melissa?
09:24That's a big mistake.
09:26Clients consulted.
09:28We've got zombie laser tag.
09:30The children could turn up and be like,
09:32Ooh, zombies!
09:33Next, plan the perfect day.
09:35Listening to the client very strongly.
09:37I believe it's going to be outdoors activities.
09:39On hand, a brochure of party packages.
09:42Outdoor adventure.
09:44So that's a mixture of a climbing wall
09:46and a team game across a river.
09:48I actually was a ropes course instructor
09:50and actually it's team bonding as well.
09:52I do have a background in working at children's camps
09:55and if we've got to lead these activities in the morning,
09:57you're going to need a professional to do it
09:59and quite frankly, I am that professional.
10:01So overall, we're thinking of games and activities
10:03because she's sporty and she likes these kind of things.
10:05The mini Olympics, you know, if we get some hula hoops out,
10:07the bean bags, you do your relay.
10:09Myself and Scott would help her.
10:11I see you guys as being really strong
10:13on the games hosting side.
10:14Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
10:16I looked at it as, how can I make the most profit?
10:19I would actually like to try and come in about 500, 600 quid
10:22because if you do that and you upsell,
10:25it's very hard to lose this task.
10:28My job is definitely make sure that I keep the reins
10:31on the creatives, like Selena,
10:33so she doesn't overspend.
10:35It will be integral to winning this task.
10:37Also on the agenda, the food and drink.
10:40I was thinking that afternoon tea.
10:42You know, she is a tomboy, but she's also quite a mature young lady.
10:44I'm your figures man, so I'm just going to tell you the facts.
10:47Barbecue food is cheap.
10:50We won't be spending 500, so I'm leaning towards afternoon tea.
10:56Lunchtime.
10:58The teams divide.
11:00Half head off to find food and entertainment.
11:03Selena, she can't do fire breathing.
11:05First of all, does she have the tools?
11:06Can she just breathe any type of fire?
11:08Like, am I missing something?
11:10She can just put a match in her mouth and start breathing it.
11:12She'll just get a light of...
11:14Really?
11:16The rest will road test potential parties.
11:20Three, two, one, go!
11:22Good, good, come on now.
11:24Planning a mini Olympics.
11:26Brett, Scott, and project manager Selena.
11:30Our age group is 13 to 14-year-old girls.
11:32We want to make sure that all of these games are going to appeal to them.
11:35You've got 90 minutes of activities,
11:37and in that time, I ain't going to make Olympic champion,
11:40but I want you to feel like Olympic champion by the time you finish.
11:43And that will be enough to make anyone's party.
11:46Me and you, let's do it. Let's go!
11:48My concern is this venue.
11:50It's an athletics arena.
11:52It's for sporty people.
11:53Now, Nicole is sporty, all right.
11:55What about her nine friends?
11:57So, just wanting to talk to you about the price.
11:59Cost of entry for ten kids, £195.
12:03We're hoping if possible we could reduce the cost to around £140.
12:07£140? Yeah.
12:09That is asking for 25% off.
12:11How about we meet Middleway 169?
12:14That sounds fantastic.
12:15Shake on it. Indeed.
12:17Thank you very much.
12:19Essex, an outdoor adventure park.
12:22Come on, Gary, you can do it!
12:24Showing his project manager the ropes.
12:26Remember, keep your hands on the tyres.
12:28David. Come on, big man.
12:30This activity really fits the client's brief.
12:32He loves being outside, he loves activity.
12:35So far, so good.
12:37Next, to maximise profits.
12:39I'm qualified as a high ropes and low ropes instructor.
12:41Oh, very nice, yeah.
12:42Negotiate a knockdown price.
12:44So, you guys are happy to take on all of that sort of hosting,
12:49that energy, that drive?
12:51I would really be comfortable in using these facilities.
12:54You think so? OK.
12:55The package price is £260.
12:57Given your experience, the best we could offer is £220.
13:02If I'm being honest, when I came here, I had a mind of 20% off the price,
13:05which would be £208.
13:07Would that be... Could we accept £208 as 20%?
13:10£220. That's the very lowest that we could offer.
13:13Great.
13:14As Gary and David seal the deal.
13:18Shopping for party supplies, Charlene and Joseph.
13:21David, in the morning, he was, like, pinpointing people
13:24that he thinks that need to prove themselves,
13:27and one of those he mentioned was yourself.
13:29What does he think he adds each week?
13:31Cos I don't think he adds a great deal, to be fair.
13:34Time to price up extras.
13:36I want you to do party bags and put on some nice T-shirts,
13:38so we need to get something to put in the party bag.
13:40To try and tempt the clients.
13:42These are quite cool. Ten bracelets, £5.50.
13:45What about those two glow sticks and then a pair of sunglasses?
13:48Hello, Gary. Hi, Joseph.
13:50So the gift bags, right, just to run through quickly what we've got.
13:53A glow stick necklace, a glow stick wristband
13:56and a pair of Hawaiian sunglasses with, like, some palm trees on.
13:59I'm just worried, though. I think they're quite tacky.
14:02They're 11 years old. I think they'll get on board with them.
14:04What will be the price of that bag, mate? £6.50.
14:06Great, let's try and get £15 for a mate.
14:08I'd suggest I'd rather have nothing than that.
14:11You know what items are in there. You give them the option.
14:13Tell them what's in them.
14:14You can tell them what's included and I reckon he will laugh.
14:16I'll give you a call back in the next couple of minutes.
14:18Cheers on.
14:20Central London.
14:21Richard. Nice to meet you, Richard. Hey, Dave.
14:23Hi, I'm Farna.
14:24A top restaurant.
14:26Which is the easiest to make out of this?
14:28I would say the macaroons.
14:30Sent by Selena to suss out afternoon tea.
14:33Oh, no!
14:35Farna and Richard.
14:37Wow, it's a lot harder than I thought.
14:40My thoughts are that this is going to be really complex.
14:44We would end up buying all the little cakes
14:47and maybe buying some scones made.
14:49We could pull off a barbecue...
14:53..cheaper.
14:54Yo, yo, yo! Hi, guys, how's it going?
14:56If we're going to win this...
14:58We can't do the afternoon tea.
15:00OK, so what's your suggestion?
15:03Let's go and spend very little money on a barbecue experience.
15:07Let's keep it simple. Keep it simple.
15:09OK, if we're going to do a barbecue, we can't do it cheap.
15:12We have to do a really nice one with all the nice little nibbly bits
15:15that make, like, a high-end barbecue. Bye-bye.
15:19Hey, Gary, how are you?
15:20How you doing, Youssef?
15:21Negotiating extras for his team.
15:23Really like to provide all the children with little party bags.
15:26Gary.
15:27Going to have glow sticks, wristbands
15:29and we're going to even have little sunglasses in there as well.
15:32We'll do the party bags at £15.
15:43I mean, what we can do is see if we can do you a deal on the party bags,
15:46if that's OK.
15:47I laughed as soon as the client came back
15:49and said they weren't going to pay £15 for the party bags.
15:52What was in them was absolute rubbish.
15:54I could do the party bags for £9 each, yeah?
15:58Yeah. Brilliant.
15:59Now, the client's agreed to pay £9 for them,
16:01but I can guarantee you tomorrow, when he looks in that bag,
16:04he's not going to pay for them.
16:05We'd really like to provide all the children
16:07with some memorable personalised T-shirts.
16:13Brilliant, fantastic. Thanks ever so much for that, Youssef,
16:15and I look forward to a fantastic day tomorrow.
16:18On the other team...
16:19Possible upsell, isn't it, the party bags?
16:21Richard's saying £2-odd, but that's going to be your leg down.
16:25I don't want a cheap party bag.
16:27I think that's something that's quite important.
16:29Selina's also thinking of calling her client.
16:33Are we missing something? We don't have her number.
16:35I'm sure it's not on that piece of paper.
16:37Er...and it's not there.
16:39Are we supposed to get her number or something?
16:43I feel like I'm missing out on something here.
16:45I mean, there you are, contact telephone number.
16:47Yeah, well, I mean, like, am I completely overlooking something?
16:50That's really bad. Hello? Hello!
16:52We're literally having a disaster
16:54because we can't find the client's number.
16:56Do you have any pieces of paper that has the client information on?
16:59Do you have the yellow pages?
17:01The yellow pages?
17:03If we don't have her number, we can't upsell anything.
17:06Oh, no, surely not.
17:127.15.
17:14Party bags, talk to us. Buy them.
17:18We want one pack of those.
17:21With no way of contacting the client...
17:24Party bags is kind of a standard anyway,
17:26so I think we're just going to have to do it.
17:29Selina takes a punt.
17:31I'm thinking around a tenner per bag.
17:34Buying goods today without the certainty
17:37that that's what the client wants is a gamble.
17:39Maybe we can have something like a friendship band each.
17:42Bowery candles. Two dice with the letters on.
17:44They're buying products, speculatively,
17:46in the hope that tomorrow, when they meet the client,
17:49somehow or other they're going to be able to upsell.
17:52I don't know what this is, but I like the fact
17:54that it has flashing lights on it.
17:56£80. Thank you very much. Thank you.
18:04And a balloon. Thank you very much.
18:06Thank you. Bye.
18:08Today's final job.
18:10Do we need pickles?
18:12I was thinking more just mayo, ketchup and mustard.
18:15Order tomorrow's food online.
18:17These are the tiny little compromises that equal winning.
18:21Across the hall...
18:22For the cake, we're going to go with a chocolate finger cake, yeah?
18:25..requested by Charlene and Joseph's client...
18:28Does any chocolate spread not have nuts in it?
18:30..one chocolate cake with no nuts.
18:33Milk chocolate spread.
18:34Hazelnuts.
18:35Yeah, no, can't have that.
18:37Well, I've just found one and it doesn't say it contains nuts.
18:40The only thing it says is may contain nuts.
18:42I think just about everything these days say may contain.
18:45I think we're just going to have to get it.
18:47There you go.
18:48Right, well done, Charlene.
18:49Well done, Joseph. Yep, done it.
18:52Super sub team.
18:53Hi, guys. We've got the gift items for the gift bags
18:55and we're looking at a cost price of about £10 per bag.
18:59Wow.
19:01You're breaking my heart. You're breaking my heart at that level.
19:04I'm really sorry, we have to go.
19:06£10 a party bag? I mean, are you serious?
19:08Like, what are we putting in there? Diamond rings?
19:11Thank you very much.
19:12Plans in place.
19:14It's the Lee Valley Sports Centre, isn't it?
19:16Sports Centre, yeah.
19:17So, basically, if there's any chance you could pass it on to the client,
19:20that would be fantastic. Thank you very much.
19:22Tomorrow, party time.
19:298am.
19:31Everybody gets a pack of pens.
19:33Everybody gets one lip balm each.
19:35I think you guys are going to have to bring up the upsell.
19:37I'm going to mention it to her when I see her.
19:39I'm just going to apologise that we didn't get in touch with her yesterday.
19:42Brett, Scott and I will be doing some interactive games with them.
19:45Getting that party vibe going.
19:46We need to prepare the cake, we need to prepare the food,
19:48we need to do all the decorations.
19:50There was one thing I need to pick up on.
19:52In regards to the cake, the chocolate spreads say they may contain nuts,
19:55so you're going to have to let the mum know this morning.
19:58Good flag.
19:59Make sure that you tell her,
20:00because we don't want to obviously poison her or anything.
20:02Yeah.
20:039am.
20:05The teams divide.
20:07Just point something out to you here.
20:09Glasses and a glow stick.
20:11I don't know if the dad's even going to pay the full night pass for these.
20:14Yeah.
20:15So why don't we, rather than put them in the party bag,
20:17just hand them to him and tie it straight around the neck.
20:20And then I've got no choice but to pay for it.
20:22Yeah.
20:23Because they've all used them.
20:24Like it.
20:26Hello, Super Sub Team.
20:27We have another request.
20:28We'd like you guys to go to a party shop,
20:31get some sticky jewels and write on Nicole's gift bag,
20:34Happy Birthday, Nicole.
20:35We want hers to look extra special.
20:37Honestly, guys, if I was to ask you to do one thing today,
20:41it's to stop spending money.
20:43I'm the one who's responsible for upselling this to the clients,
20:45so I would feel more comfortable doing that if I'm confident in our product.
20:49OK, bye.
20:50Bye.
20:52If I kick off a big fuss now, this will be the last of it,
20:55because then they won't go,
20:57Oh, we should do this and we should do that.
21:01Essex.
21:02Right, guys, let's stand in the nice little arch we're here for.
21:05Starting point for Jamal's party.
21:07It's a welcome.
21:08Some people do call me Gary the giraffe because I'm a bit tall
21:11and a bit like that.
21:13Led by rope-climbing expert David.
21:16I want to have as much fun as we can today as we possibly can,
21:19but I'll also stress that we have no running policy around here as well.
21:25A few rules before we start the game.
21:27You are not allowed to go round the back.
21:30You are not allowed to climb to the top.
21:32Go!
21:35Make sure you don't go all the way to the top, Jamal.
21:37And I also need to point your attention to these gaps in the wood as well.
21:41OK? It can be very dangerous if we get our fingers in there.
21:44Are you enjoying it so far?
21:46Yeah?
21:47David and Gary are taking it very seriously,
21:49but so seriously I think they've forgotten this is a party.
21:52Can I get you to slow down, please? Don't move anywhere. Thank you.
21:55These kids, they want to have fun, they want to let loose.
21:58So it's nice and tight but it's comfortable as well.
22:00Gary is a corporate man
22:02and actually it feels more like a corporate away day.
22:05Is it just possible to keep the atmosphere going a little bit more?
22:08On a sports day, we'd sort of like just motivate them.
22:11Right, it's been a bit flat, so what we're going to do now is a bit of a competition.
22:14My team against your team.
22:16Just need to quickly go over a safety thing.
22:18Yeah.
22:21The Lee Valley.
22:24Arriving for Selena's mini Olympics.
22:27Hi, Jessica! How are you?
22:29Nicole and friends.
22:31We've got a fantastic day planned.
22:33You're sporty.
22:37OK, cool.
22:39In charge of fun and games,
22:42Scott and Brett.
22:44We're going to have a really good time.
22:46It's about dodgeball, having fun, just getting crazy, letting your hair down.
22:49I would like to say the same, but I let my hair down once upon a time and it went...
22:54On your marks, get set, go!
22:58This task, apart from the end goal of making profit,
23:01is customer satisfaction.
23:04There are two customers.
23:06The birthday girl seems to be happy.
23:08The other one, perhaps the more important one in this instance, is the mother.
23:11Go!
23:13I say go!
23:15She has to feel she's getting value for money
23:17and at the moment, she's sitting on the fence.
23:20Run, Nicole!
23:23Oh!
23:25Are you all right? Keep running!
23:27Happy birthday, me!
23:32South London.
23:34I think the most important thing for me is to get this cake done.
23:38Preparing for the arrival of the birthday girl, Richard...
23:41Shit!
23:43..and Varna.
23:45Have a little taste, huh? Oh, yeah.
23:47I smashed that kitchen on my own. I'm more than happy to do that.
23:51OK.
23:53Good luck, my friend.
23:55Cake's in. Icing's made.
23:57Icing's in the fridge.
23:59Might put my feet up!
24:01What are we going to do about Selina's request
24:04to get the glitter for the party bags?
24:07Are we going to...? We have no time.
24:10We have no time for that.
24:14For the other team,
24:16preparations are underway for a beach-themed afternoon.
24:21We've got sand, we've got grass.
24:23What more could they ask for?
24:25While Charlene and Joseph put the icing on the cake...
24:28Definitely chocolatey, Joe.
24:31Voila.
24:33..at the road park... David! David!
24:35..David and Gary...
24:37..finally make a splash.
24:40I think they're enjoying it anyway.
24:42There's a couple of things...
24:44In the chocolate cake, there's a chocolate spread
24:46and it says it may contain nuts.
24:49There's the chocolate spread that we put in there.
24:51It's not Nutella, is it? It is, yeah.
24:53Nutella is nut-based chocolate.
24:56Yeah, yeah, definitely.
24:57That type of thing would be big risk for Julie.
25:00Gary, I think this is so serious
25:02that you need to phone your team
25:04and qualify what this spread is made of.
25:06Absolutely.
25:07That's why I wanted to check with a client because...
25:09Well, the client doesn't know until you've qualified
25:11what is in the spread,
25:12whether it's traces of nuts or nut-based spread.
25:16Oh.
25:17Joseph? Yeah.
25:18How you doing, mate? You all right?
25:20Yeah, good, mate, yeah.
25:21We're nearly there with the cake nuts.
25:23There's no, like...
25:24There's only, like, a trace of nuts in there, isn't there?
25:26There's no actual nuts in there?
25:28It just said...
25:29It may contain nuts.
25:31And it's not Nutella that you're using, is it?
25:33It's Cadbury milk chocolate spread.
25:35Er, yeah, OK, that's fine.
25:37Bye, bye.
25:40Pleased to say we have not used any nuts, anything like that.
25:43So what we've done is we've done it purely with chocolate milk spread.
25:46It'd be great to see the packaging, just to set our mind at rest.
25:49Yeah.
25:50Because it's such a big issue for us.
25:53CHEERING
25:551pm.
25:57Party bus!
25:58To transport their guests...
26:00Wow, look at this!
26:01..for both teams...
26:03CHEERING
26:04..a party bus.
26:05Party bus! Party bus!
26:07Yep.
26:09It's killing me!
26:11Yeah!
26:12I must confess...
26:14I still believe!
26:17Hit me, baby, one more time!
26:20Yes!
26:27Right, they have to get the party started.
26:29Has anyone seen these before? Glow bands?
26:33So you get them like that, and you snap them like that together.
26:36You watch, when it turns pitch black later on and dark,
26:39your hands will all, like, glow up and you'll be like...
26:44So maybe we can organise a bit of music
26:46just to get the atmosphere going a bit more.
26:48Yeah, David?
26:49Do we need to get the atmosphere going?
26:51Um, in, out, in, out, shake it all about.
26:54Do you know that song?
26:57Um...
26:59You put your left hand out.
27:01You cup it around, you're going to pull it back
27:04and twist it around and go...
27:06Boom, boom, boom!
27:08Do you like that?
27:12South London...
27:14Party bus! Woo!
27:16..arriving for lunch...
27:18Do you want to pop all your bags and stuff up here?
27:20..Nicole and friends...
27:22It's orange, elderflower and a little bit of spray.
27:25..but for Selena...
27:27Everything from our side is fine. OK.
27:29..a pressing issue.
27:31Party bags, did you guys go and get extra stuff?
27:33So we literally got here, scouted out the venue
27:36and we're now where we are now.
27:38We haven't stopped, so we just haven't, we haven't...
27:41We just haven't stopped. Yeah.
27:43It's quite difficult to personalise gift bags
27:45and make them look really cool when you don't have any materials.
27:48The guys said they didn't have time to get it.
27:50It was very unlikely they were going to go and do it
27:52because Richard didn't want to do it.
27:54..at the beach...
27:55Let's get the party started, shall we, boys?
27:57..time to eat.
27:58Who wants bacon? You want bacon, young man?
28:00Gary, can we just have a word and get that thing sorted out
28:03with the cake?
28:05But first, confirm no nuts on site.
28:08Stuck outside, Mum and Julie.
28:11The whole point of being a party planner
28:13is that you take the stress away.
28:15Gary explained there was a nut spread in the cake,
28:18which actually there wasn't a nut spread.
28:20So you could just explain, Joseph.
28:22In terms of what we've used, yeah?
28:24Basically, on the back there it says
28:26may contain nuts at the bottom.
28:28I think that the message, because it was confused,
28:30has dented the client's confidence.
28:32If that's it, that's fine.
28:34It was just something that played on our minds.
28:36You know, it was one of the key things that we mentioned.
28:39And so far, I think that's put a real damper on the day for them.
28:424.30pm...
28:44One, two, three, four, five.
28:46..for Nicole, an American-themed party.
28:49There we go.
28:51But still, no burgers.
28:54It's only going to get out now.
28:56It's nearly five o'clock.
28:58That's right, we're all right.
29:00Hang on, hang on, hang on. Hang on what?
29:03Hang on, I'm not done. OK, off, off, off.
29:05The thing about Richard is that he likes to be in control.
29:08Get the tomato slice, the lettuce pulled out.
29:11Richard is the boss.
29:13They're not too small, they need to be, like, quite big.
29:15Vahna is his slave.
29:17I'm doing everything you told me.
29:19However, it is chaotic, the kitchen.
29:21We're just going to cover up the salad so that they don't get...
29:23Don't worry about covering it.
29:25It just makes it look really clean. Vahna, honestly.
29:27It's going to look messy.
29:29Come on, let's just get them out.
29:31Guys, is there a burger going? We've got a girl going, that's all.
29:33Ketchup and mustard right out there.
29:35Do you want ketchup or anything on it?
29:37Are you sure? Thank you ever so much for coming.
29:41At the beach...
29:43One, two, three...
29:45..with the birthday meal over...
29:47Right, the person that wants to run the least furthest
29:49Former Navy girl Charlene...
29:51Number one's up the front.
29:53You're going to run yourselves all the way down to the fence and back.
29:55..takes charge of fun and games.
29:57First one's back,
29:59sat on their bums, wins, OK?
30:03Inside...
30:05Hi, Gary. I just think it's best we just put a few more extra items
30:07into the party bag.
30:09David takes charge of merchandise.
30:11Two bags of sweets, two balloons,
30:13a water pistol and a pair of sunglasses in each one.
30:15I would definitely pay £9 now for one of these bags.
30:19Also ordered ten souvenir T-shirts.
30:23I only learnt how to iron the other day.
30:25Price agreed, £175.
30:29Well, that one's not come out very well at all.
30:31Follow the instructions?
30:33Yeah, of course.
30:35Cut that off a bit too wet.
30:37And also the happy birthday's back to front.
30:39Cut the top off so it's no happy birthday.
30:45He's done it again. Even worse this time.
30:47Just a couple of slight defects,
30:49but after they've been washed once or twice,
30:51they're going to fade slightly, and I think it'll work.
30:57At Nicole's party...
30:59Guys, come on in, dinner's ready. Food!
31:01..food finally served.
31:03OK, so, bon appétit.
31:05Right, so...
31:07..Richard tackles the cake...
31:09It's slightly too warm to put the icing on,
31:11so the icing will melt.
31:13..and Selena...
31:15..pitches her party bags.
31:17..has a little hairbrush,
31:19the photo frame,
31:21and we have ale candy from the day.
31:23If I had my choice, I would have said
31:25definitely don't do a goodie bag.
31:27Oh, really? You don't want the goodie bags?
31:29Yeah, yeah. I wish I had the opportunity
31:31last night to say...
31:33Do you want us to give the goodie bags away
31:35and can we talk about a price for them?
31:37It has cost us around £10 for each of the girls.
31:41My instinct is to say no.
31:43OK.
31:45Me and Joseph are going to show you a pass.
31:47It is the chest pass.
31:49At Jamal's beach party...
31:53..Gary tries to claw back some cash.
31:55Obviously ordered ten T-shirts
31:57and I'm going to be totally transparent with you.
31:59A couple of the T-shirts that we did earlier
32:01didn't go to plan.
32:05OK. We're missing the happy birthday?
32:07Yeah. With that in mind,
32:09I wouldn't be expecting the same prices.
32:11No.
32:13To be honest, Gary, it's not the quality
32:15that we were looking for.
32:17I think it's a no.
32:19There's no two ways about it.
32:21The whole T-shirt fiasco was a disaster.
32:23It's cost us £175,
32:25so I just hope it doesn't cost us in the boardroom.
32:27The party bags, happy with those in the end
32:29with all the additional extras?
32:31A little bit disappointing in terms of the items.
32:33I mean, I can't see more than
32:35£5 value in those bags, to be honest.
32:37OK.
32:39So, I did go in at £90 for the bags.
32:41I mean, would you be happy if I reduced it
32:43from £90 to £60?
32:45I'm making a loss on those.
32:47Yeah? Yeah. I appreciate that.
32:49OK. That, that, that.
32:515.30pm.
32:53That's it. Yes!
32:55Half an hour till guests head home.
32:57So, I'm a little bit worried.
32:59Is there any way we can cool this any faster?
33:01All you want to do is shock freeze it.
33:03Just make sure it doesn't lose its shape.
33:05Has the icing been prepped yet or no?
33:07Hey, Rich, where's the icing?
33:09Because Brett has an idea about how to fix it.
33:11I don't want any help.
33:13Honestly, I don't even understand
33:15that I've got everything sorted with the cake.
33:17Please just don't come back to me with any more of the cake.
33:19Don't get mad. I mean...
33:21But you're constantly moaning about a cake.
33:23It's not moaning. There is no problem.
33:25Brett had the idea to put the cake
33:27into the freezer to cool it faster.
33:29No, because then it goes hard. OK.
33:33He got really mad at me
33:35and he got so mad that I nervously was laughing.
33:37It was really awkward.
33:39Throughout the day, Richard has been bossing me around
33:41and I've felt like a waitress.
33:43I mean, he basically cursed me out
33:45for mentioning the cake.
33:47Honestly, it's just every second I hear a cake.
33:49Who wants a party bag?
33:51Me!
33:536pm.
33:55Everybody gets a water pistol.
33:57The party bags were doomed from the outset.
33:59It just proved that Joseph and Charlene
34:01are not smart people at all.
34:03My job was to look after
34:05the outdoor adventure, which I did
34:07exceptionally well, may I add.
34:09OK, don't rush. I'm going to marshmallow the whole thing.
34:11Mate, it needs to go out now.
34:13I feel like we've offered
34:15really good value for money.
34:17OK, and make a wish!
34:19However, if the customer was
34:21unsatisfied, they would ask for a refund
34:23and that would absolutely
34:25wipe out any profit-making
34:27and savings that I've been pushing for.
34:29CHEERING
34:31Party's over.
34:35Tonight, client satisfaction
34:37will be canvassed.
34:39See you later, guys.
34:41Tomorrow, a get-together
34:43in the boardroom.
35:01BELL RINGS
35:07You can go through to the boardroom now.
35:23Good morning. Good morning, Lord Sugar.
35:27Well, a task all to do
35:29is party planning and Selena.
35:31Your birthday girl was Nicole.
35:33Yes, that's right.
35:35And mum was Melissa. Yes.
35:37Mum had already agreed a £2,000 budget
35:39and you interviewed
35:41the girl and the mum.
35:43One of the things that Nicole said
35:45was that she was interested in athletic sports
35:47so we thought a mini Olympics
35:49was something that we could make really fun
35:51by the way we entertained her and her friends.
35:53Brett cheekily dressed up as the fat referee,
35:55which was good.
35:57As an orientation, when the girls turned up,
35:59we'd all hop on one leg, get involved.
36:01You and Scott together? Yeah.
36:03Last task, you were more like Punch and Judy.
36:05On this particular occasion,
36:07your best double act since Jedward.
36:09Well, we did. Yeah, it was really, really fun.
36:11They loved it. I don't know why, but they loved it.
36:13Richard and Varna,
36:15you're in the kitchen, is that right?
36:17Yes. I was in charge of the costings from the start
36:19and what I was very keen on
36:21is making sure that we could
36:23make some savings on the food.
36:25Richard and Varna had a vision of
36:27actually making a rather nice event.
36:29Or was he like a brick of Lego
36:31in a Meccano set? It sounds an irritant.
36:33I have to say, you are right, it is irritating,
36:35but I'm really happy that Richard was irritating
36:37because it is about numbers
36:39and if you do give me creative reign,
36:41I might have started trying to put unicorns and all sorts.
36:43OK. Now, according to Claude,
36:45Varna was, rather than the sous-chef,
36:47she was a bit like a slave.
36:49A sous-slave. A sous-slave, yeah.
36:51I wouldn't use those words, but we...
36:53But he did. I can understand that.
36:55And Varna probably will.
36:57I knew what I needed to get done
36:59and Varna helped out.
37:01Could I hear from the sous-slave?
37:03I think the point is that
37:05Rich wanted to have control of the kitchen
37:07and I didn't really have a place.
37:09What do you do in those situations?
37:11Do you just fold or what?
37:13Once he screamed at me and once he told me to get out of his hair,
37:15I did take a step back.
37:17The cake comments were,
37:19I'm worried about the cake, I'm worried about the cake,
37:21I just wanted you to shut up about the cake.
37:23The party arrived
37:25and nothing, nothing was cooking.
37:27It sounds to me that
37:29his birthday party, they'd be waiting
37:31till they get a telegram from the Queen,
37:33waiting for you to feed them.
37:35Both teams had the option
37:37of encouraging
37:39the parents to spend a little bit more,
37:41which they would tend to do.
37:43They always want their children's party
37:45to be the best party, a memorable occasion.
37:47But then the penny drops
37:49and suddenly you realise
37:51that it's perhaps time to call Mummy
37:53and see whether
37:55she wants to go along with some of the goody ideas
37:57that you'd thought up,
37:59but you didn't have Mummy's phone number.
38:01No. Is that right?
38:03Yeah, it was a complete oversight.
38:05So here you were, having to
38:07take a bit of a flyer yourself
38:09as to the additional stuff
38:11that you were going to ask her to pay for.
38:13Yes, and the gift bags weren't fantastic.
38:15It sounds to me like you could have just done away with the goody bag,
38:17saved yourself a lot of money.
38:19Possibly, yeah, we could have done that.
38:21I was asked on the second day to go get some glitter
38:23to be able to
38:25dress up the actual bags themselves
38:27further.
38:29I was anti this idea
38:31because I was keen to not spend any money,
38:33as you might have already gathered.
38:35We were up against it time-wise.
38:37Time-wise, or you didn't want to spend the money?
38:39It was a case that we didn't have the time for it.
38:41In my schedules, I had to bake a cake,
38:43we had to put all the food down.
38:45If you'd have had the time, would you have done it?
38:47And I said that to Selina.
38:49If you'd have had the time, would you have done it?
38:51Yes.
38:53When I set the task at the museum, you chose Richard.
38:55Yes, that's true.
38:57In the end, you were happy
38:59with your choice of Richard, yeah?
39:01Yeah, very happy.
39:03All right, now then, Gary.
39:05You've got a business already
39:07that puts on events.
39:09That's correct, yes.
39:11I believe you gave yourself a name, Gary the Giraffe,
39:13so you're here to stick your neck out in this boardroom.
39:15Absolutely, yes.
39:17I mean, I'm not going to confess
39:19to being an expert in children's parties,
39:21but my business plan is in events and entertainment,
39:23so organising events, I was delighted to be project manager again.
39:25OK, so you had Jamal.
39:27Yeah.
39:29We asked if they'd rather be indoors or outdoors,
39:31and it was very strong they wanted to be outdoors and active.
39:33So that was your outdoor adventure?
39:35That's right, yes.
39:37I probably had a stroker look as well,
39:39because David, it turns out, has had three years' experience.
39:41So we had to engage all of the children, get them involved.
39:43It was very earnest, but it wasn't much fun, was it?
39:45The parents did ask you to up your energy
39:47and create a bit of atmosphere.
39:49It was supposed to be about fun.
39:51It sounded to me like an Ofsted inspection.
39:53Yeah, I think we flipped it round
39:55and the birthday boy and his brother
39:57basically pushed us into this swamp.
39:59Right, so Joseph and Charlene
40:01went off to the party shop
40:03to buy some stuff.
40:05What did you buy?
40:07Glow sticks and then the funky glasses.
40:09You phoned the client, didn't you?
40:11Because you got his contact details, didn't you, Gary?
40:13That's right.
40:15Oh, you got the number?
40:17Yes, when we met in the morning, I said,
40:19can I take your number so we can check in with you in the afternoon?
40:21And did you say to him,
40:23we're thinking of these additional items, or what?
40:25Spot on, yeah.
40:27So by the end of the call, he gave us pretty much a pre-order.
40:29So he kind of, like, gave you the green sign
40:31that if everything was going to be good,
40:33he'd pay you an extra on top of the £2,000 that he's budgeted, yeah?
40:35We did well to get £175.
40:37I was in charge of transferring the photos onto the T-shirts.
40:39We made a few mistakes.
40:41Also, the client wasn't happy with the party bags.
40:43You didn't offer any solution at all?
40:45No.
40:47I wasn't in the shop, but all I'm saying is
40:49glow sticks and glasses is pathetic.
40:51Joseph and Charlene, you're cooking, aren't you?
40:53We both did the cake each,
40:55and then Joseph was taking control of the barbecue
40:57and the meats and everything on the barbecue.
40:59There was an issue with the cake, though, wasn't there?
41:01Yeah, the mum had said that she had a nut allergy.
41:03Severe nut allergy.
41:05It was, it was. Very severe, yes.
41:07Not only could she not eat it, but she couldn't be touched by it.
41:09This could have turned out one of those murder mystery parties.
41:11Could have. Really, couldn't it?
41:13But all the chocolate ingredients we looked at,
41:15on the back it said, may contain nuts,
41:17so we wanted to make sure that the mum knew
41:19that the cake may contain nuts.
41:21I mean, they asked for a party that had to be memorable.
41:23It would be certainly memorable
41:25if they're taking mum out on a bleeding stretcher.
41:27Yeah. Right?
41:29Well, let's find out how much money we made.
41:31Now, each of your clients paid £2,000 up front for your parties.
41:35And I did make the point in setting the task
41:38that if your party wasn't up to scratch,
41:41the clients could ask for some or all of their money back.
41:45And from what I can understand from both of you,
41:48neither of them were 100% satisfied.
41:51Karen, let me know what happened.
41:55First, I spent £1,140.
41:58Versatile spent £1,149.80,
42:02but their client wasn't happy with a number of aspects
42:05and therefore they're only prepared to pay £1,546 all in.
42:10So that gives Versatile a profit of £396.20.
42:17And your people weren't happy bunnies either, were they?
42:20I'm afraid not.
42:22Connexus spent £1,050.79p.
42:27Their client was prepared to pay £1,665...
42:34..leaving Connexus with a profit of £614.21.
42:40OK. You won it.
42:42£614 compared to £396,
42:46maybe due to Richard's stinginess.
42:49Now, I've arranged for you to have a lesson
42:52with the UK's most successful snowboarder,
42:55the Olympic bronze medallist Jenny Jones.
42:58So I'll see you on the next task.
43:15Well, clearly the client was not happy.
43:18I'll see you back here shortly and we'll discuss it in more detail.
43:21It's not today.
43:26I would have been absolutely gussied if we'd lost.
43:29I can't even remember what it's like to lose.
43:31Richard, you're the worst.
43:34Yeah!
43:37Are you ready to go snowboarding? Yes!
43:39Let's do it. Stand up, stand up, stand up. Lovely.
43:42I've won more than anybody else in this process,
43:44so I know how to get there. Nice.
43:46This task, I made sure we looked after the cost and made more profit.
43:50So it's not fluke, it's through actual input on my behalf.
43:54Richard was very irritating and controlling in this task.
44:00I think he really was on a power trip.
44:02Oh, that was scary.
44:06Nice. She's got it.
44:09Yay!
44:13They're going to come under us hard for these T-shirts,
44:16and for that reason alone, David, you're going to be coming in with me.
44:19I don't want to dance around a bush unless I hear anything.
44:22I've highlighted David. Not only was it the last revenue of just under £200,
44:26he left a sour taste in the client's eye at the end of the day.
44:29The point is, with the cake, the only thing in there, nuts,
44:32was hazelnut chocolate spread, which we changed to dairy milk chocolate spread.
44:35But then the family thought that it was hazelnut chocolate spread.
44:38Now, I don't know if that was you that said that.
44:40I definitely feel that Joseph and Charlene are trying to sidestep
44:43the fact that they were in charge of the cake.
44:45That scared the customer, made them a bit worried,
44:47meant they couldn't enjoy the day as much.
44:49You decided to take the glow sticks out of the party bag
44:52and then give them out on the bus.
44:53When we spoke to the guy...
44:55Are you guys going to listen to me or not?
44:57No, because you're not listening.
44:58The point is that when we was there and we was negotiating the prices,
45:01the guy said, it is not value for money.
45:03He was pissed because all the T-shirts were shit.
45:13Would you send the candidates in, please?
45:15Yes, Lord Tudor.
45:17You can go through to the boardroom now.
45:29Right, the first thing you'd found out was that the wife had a nut allergy.
45:35Correct, yeah.
45:36The first rule of a party planning is don't poison the client.
45:39On the ingredients of the cake, it did have hazelnut spread,
45:44which we said we would use normal chocolate spread.
45:46Even though you clarified that to the client,
45:50you left an air of uncertainty in his mind to such an extent
45:55that the wife was frightened to come into the party
45:58and sat herself on some bench somewhere 300 metres away
46:03until he gave her the all-clear.
46:05The client said, and it sounds great what you're telling me,
46:08but I need to see the boxes, because the boxes, he says, may contain nuts.
46:12That's not true, Gary. That's not true.
46:15You told the client that it had hazelnut spread in it
46:18and then you clarified it was actually chocolate spread
46:21and by that stage the client had lost confidence.
46:24I totally agree.
46:26You've upset his day.
46:28He's supposed to be there, him and his wife, supposed to be there relaxing,
46:31letting you professionals, party planners, put this party on for his kid
46:35and so he knocked £100 off for that stupid, stupid mistake.
46:39And then again, the guy knocked £150 off
46:42because he reckoned the party bus had no entertainment on it
46:45and the client said they felt short-changed.
46:48Anyway, moving on to the extra costs.
46:51The key driver was the T-shirts. He was looking to get £175 back from those.
46:55The party bags, he wasn't too happy with that,
46:57so he paid £60 for those in the end.
46:59The customer actually agreed that party bag,
47:02with the necklace, the band and the sunglasses,
47:04and agreed to pay the full price for that bag,
47:07but they didn't actually get that bag as the party bag in the end.
47:10Why not?
47:11Cos I stated that I think the items were not acceptable
47:14and the client would never pay that much money for them.
47:17And then, because we'd given the glowsticks out on the party bus as well,
47:20all that was going to be in a bag was going to be some sunglasses.
47:23So I went rummaging round, noticed we had some water pistols, balloons, sweets,
47:27and I just wanted to put something in a bag for the kids to play with,
47:30to have something to eat.
47:31I can't understand why the necklaces and the glowsticks
47:33got taken out of the party bag.
47:35I definitely feel that the fact that I actually put items in
47:37meant at least we got £60 for them.
47:39Had I put none of that in there,
47:41I personally don't think he would have paid.
47:43He agreed to bag. A glowstick is a glowstick.
47:46There's not an amazing quality glowstick or a poor quality glowstick.
47:49A glowstick is a glowstick.
47:50If he'd have had that bag, what argument would he have had to not pay
47:53because he'd pre-agreed the items?
47:55He's not going to knock £4 off.
47:57He may not have agreed to pay for them
47:59because Gary may have exaggerated them over the phone when he agreed them.
48:03When he saw them, he must have gone,
48:04Blimey, I'm not paying £90 for this bunch of tut here.
48:07He was going to pay £90, he ended up paying £60,
48:09so there's the £30 loss.
48:11The big loss was obviously the T-shirts, which was £175.
48:14A lot of people are going to point the finger at myself
48:16because I'm the person who actually put the print on the T-shirt,
48:18but in terms of the eight that I managed to do,
48:20the pictures did actually come out.
48:22But he wasn't going to buy eight when he had ten kids.
48:25What two was he going to leave out?
48:27£175, that cost.
48:29Well, I've spelt out where all the money went wrong here.
48:32So, Gary, you're going to have to choose two people
48:35to bring back in this boardroom.
48:37I mean, that £175 is huge, so on that basis,
48:41I'd be looking down the David route,
48:43but I need to understand from the sub-team,
48:45where was the oversight with the chocolate cake?
48:47So in regards to the cake, we both looked over the cake.
48:50I can't have committee.
48:51I need someone at this stage to say he was accountable for it
48:54and stand by that decision.
48:55Myself and Joseph, from word gore,
48:57felt that both of us negotiated together,
49:00we chose everything together, we both worked our socks off.
49:03I'm sorry, Gary, but the decision's going to have to be yours.
49:06Don't tell me you did it 50-50. Someone suggested it to me.
49:09It was 50-50, and you then make your decision
49:11as to who you think put the most effort in.
49:15Gary, you're going to make a decision? Yeah.
49:17What is your decision?
49:19OK, I'm going to bring David and Joseph back in.
49:22Is that a final decision?
49:23Unless there's any further feedback about the game.
49:25I'm not here to do your job for you.
49:27Joseph's done great on previous tasks, but I've got to judge it on this task.
49:30Good luck, boys. Where are you going?
49:32Do I not...? Oh, sorry, I didn't...
49:37I don't wish to override your decision,
49:40but I think there's so much going on here
49:43that I'm going to make an unprecedented move here,
49:46and that is this.
49:48I'm going to have a much deeper chat with Karen here,
49:51and I want all four of you to come back in here.
49:54At least one of you will be fired, OK?
50:05Charlene, I didn't like her presumptuous manner,
50:08that she thought she was a way scot-free, to be honest with you.
50:14Both Charlene and Joseph were responsible
50:17for some of the deductions that were made by the client.
50:21Gary, struggling, struggling, struggling to make a decision.
50:25He likes to make decisions after everyone else has decided.
50:28You wouldn't want to go into an events business with him,
50:31having watched that party. I can assure you, it was bad.
50:34David's lack of organisation in doing those T-shirts
50:37cost the team dear.
50:39PHONE RINGS
50:41Yeah, can you send the four of them in, please?
50:52PHONE RINGS
50:58Charlene, you, young lady, jumped up thinking you were scot-free.
51:02Well, I'm sorry, the explanation as to all these refunds
51:06is not very clear in my mind.
51:08Do you accept some of the responsibility
51:10for some of this money that's been knocked off?
51:13I accept responsibility for the cake, 50-50.
51:16With Joseph, that part I will take.
51:18And you don't take any responsibility
51:20for any of the other deductions?
51:22I absolutely work my socks off from the beginning of the task
51:25to the end of the task. I always do with every single task.
51:28When I sell, I sell really well. I put in...
51:31Well, watch my lips.
51:33Do you take any responsibility for the other reductions?
51:38No, Lord Sugar, I don't think the other deductions are related to myself.
51:41Including that of the bags, then?
51:43What we paid on the party bags, we got our money back on.
51:46Gary, a trait of yours is that you deliberate so much.
51:50You won't make a decision, you won't hone in on something,
51:53and you're supposed to know who caused you the failure of this task.
51:57And in the end, I'm ending up doing the work for you.
51:59Well, I'm not going to do the work for you.
52:01I've got six and a half years working for a leading retailer,
52:04and if I couldn't make decisions working for them,
52:06I wouldn't be lasting six and a half years.
52:08Well, maybe I know that major retailer you're talking about,
52:11and with the greatest respect, it is a very massive corporate organisation,
52:16and dare I say that people walk around with a dustbin lid on their arse,
52:20not making decisions.
52:22In defence of that, this is the eighth task,
52:24and I've already been project manager twice,
52:26and this is the first time I've come back in here,
52:28and no-one here is pointing the finger to say it wasn't managed well.
52:31I believe the failure in this task was how it was executed,
52:34and unfortunately the failure of this task was down to how it ended.
52:37Now, David was in a difficult position with the T-shirts,
52:39and not only was it £175, it also meant the customer left the day with a sour taste.
52:45And a sour taste over the nut cake also.
52:47Yep.
52:48Didn't they? Yep.
52:49I think that had a lot to do with you.
52:50Yeah, I mean, I felt very exposed.
52:52I was challenged, has it got hazelnut?
52:54And if I'm being honest, there and then, I didn't have a definite answer.
52:57And Joseph, you don't believe that any of the refunds
53:01that came about here are down to you?
53:04The cake was a joint decision, OK.
53:06A joint decision. So the cake is £100.
53:08So I'll have to take 50 of that, cos that was a joint decision.
53:11That's £100.
53:12So, tell me, who should be out here today?
53:16David.
53:18He messed up on the T-shirts, he didn't do anything on the first day.
53:21I think he's been carried quite far throughout this process.
53:24Do you do realise on day one I negotiated £40 off the price?
53:27I wouldn't say you negotiated, I think the fact that you were there probably helped.
53:30Yeah, it was done together.
53:32I wouldn't like to say David made it.
53:33David, a lot of fingers pointing at you.
53:35Yep. On this particular task itself, OK, with the T-shirts,
53:38there has been a slight error of judgement.
53:40But let's move that aside, there's £175 there, I'm going to have to take that.
53:43But you've got to also realise what else I've done.
53:45For example, trying to make sure that things like the party bags are always working.
53:49Gary, did the parents say that he would pay more for the party bag
53:54because David put in a plastic gun?
53:57That's not the argument.
53:59No, he didn't.
54:00No, he didn't.
54:01But you keep going on about putting in these plastic guns.
54:04They would not have paid no more for those party bags
54:07if you had put a plastic gun in there or a bag of Harry Bowes.
54:10Can you just chill out one second, please?
54:14Because this is not right.
54:16Just let him talk and if you've got some criticism about what he's got to say,
54:20then you can tell me afterward. Carry on.
54:23So when it came to the morning event,
54:25was one of the best bits about the actual day itself?
54:27That's because you paid £240 for an activity
54:32that is done all the time.
54:34Of course it was going to be good.
54:36It didn't have anything to do with you, David.
54:38If they had had someone with more enthusiasm and more oomph,
54:41they would have enjoyed it even more.
54:43I've heard enough here.
54:46Charlene, interrupting in the manner that you're doing
54:50and just shouting loud, very, very loud,
54:52is something that I don't like.
54:55Rattling off doesn't actually mean that any sense is coming out of your mouth.
55:02And Joseph, I do believe that there was some responsibility here
55:07for you on this task.
55:10Gary, I'm a bit concerned.
55:12I made you the project manager on this.
55:14Unusual, because you were the project manager last week,
55:17but I thought, hold on a minute, you are an events organiser.
55:20I know.
55:21What better project manager should one have for this?
55:26And, David, I do believe that today you have a lot to answer to.
55:32£175 wasted on these T-shirts.
55:38I wish you well, David, but I have concluded
55:41that you're not going to be my business partner.
55:44You're fired.
55:45Thank you very much for the opportunity, Lord Shu.
55:47Karen, Claude, thank you.
55:56It's getting close to the running,
55:59and I'm a little bit concerned, particularly about you, Gary,
56:03that you are a big corporate man.
56:07I'm wondering, at the end of the day,
56:10whether your culture is going to be any good working with me.
56:14Now, it's £250,000 a lot of money.
56:17It's an acorn which we want grown into a great oak tree.
56:21That's why I've left that organisation to start on.
56:24I don't want to hear any more.
56:29But, look, I'm going to let you remain in the process.
56:33Thank you, Lord Sugar.
56:35And the same applies to you two. Go back to the house.
56:38Thank you, Lord Sugar.
56:42Sorry, David.
56:55Three people decided to gang up on me. It was simple as that.
56:58Charlene is an irritant.
56:59Joseph, all he can do is sell. He can't do anything else.
57:02And the fact that Gary didn't actually stick up for me
57:04is because he wanted to save his own bacon.
57:06And when you've got three versus one,
57:08it's always going to be a tough one to win.
57:11I'm a little bit concerned, the fact that no-one's come back.
57:14Not a soul ever.
57:15One person normally comes back at least, isn't it?
57:18And they haven't come back. It might be funny, but...
57:21You're doing the Barbie without us, then, guys.
57:24Oh, my God, it's just you guys. Is it only you guys?
57:28Gary's gone.
57:30CHEERING
57:33And Joseph has been a brilliant candidate all the way through,
57:36so I know it was tough to bring back,
57:38but I had to say one of them, so I said Joseph.
57:40Charlene was off, Claude went,
57:42where are you going? Like that, straight in.
57:44No!
57:45But with me, he was close.
57:47He was really, really, really, really close.
57:51Now, eight candidates remain.
57:54Lord Sugar's search for his next business partner continues.
58:02Next time...
58:03You're going to sell the priciest product of them all, property.
58:07..dream homes...
58:08Beautiful.
58:09£1,369,150.
58:12The windows have the sun come in throughout the day and the night.
58:15Oh, my God.
