- "at 5 (minutes) to (the hour)" is a Greek idiom, equivalent to "at the last minute".
- Apostolos Souglakos was a Greek catch wrestler and actor.
- Zouboulia throws a mountza to Amalia (the most traditional gesture of insult among Greeks), but Amalia doesn't get it. Note that when Greeks hand-signal the number 5 to someone, they take care to face the back of their hand towards the person (and not the palm), lest it be mistaken for a mountza.
- Marinella is a famous old Greek singer. Amalia is not aware that Zouboulia keeps mispronouncing her co-mother-in-law's name, so she believes that she will speak to the actual singer.
- Vefa Alexiadou is a famous cook and author of various cooking books.
- "Maria in silence" is a 1973 film, starring Aliki Vougiouklaki. The film is about a deaf-mute girl who gets sexually assaulted by an influential member of a small island community.
- The song "Meow, kitty" is sung by Aliki Vougiouklaki in the 1959 film "Maiden's cheek", starring also Dimitris Papamichail (Spyros' supposed doppelganger). Vougiouklaki passed away several years prior to filming the series.
