Temperatures in the 90s could break records from the Mid-Atlantic to New England this week.
Transcript
00:00Temps right now in the northeast are very warm. We're dealing with readings into the mid to upper 80s for some.
00:0689 in Charleston, West Virginia. Other exceptions to that are going to be near the coast of Maine, 67 in Portland.
00:12But when it comes to the first 90 degree day of the year, we have yet to do it this year in New York and Boston.
00:17We will do it by Wednesday. Average first 90 degree day is May 28th in New York and June 1st in Boston.
00:23We have done it in D.C., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh. You surge deep into the mid 90s today.
00:28And overall, more readings farther west. A lot of upper 80s. Look at Chicago, 95 degrees. Very warm there.
00:36So this heat is holding and it's going to be strengthening into the northeast over the next few days with record challenging highs.
00:44You can see these little blips of energy here in yellow and orange.
00:47These are often the impulses that help to spark thunderstorms fueled by the heat.
00:50And that gets generally diverted around. The core of the heat is going to be centered over the eastern Ohio Valley over the next few days.
00:57And again, hot weather will be with us tomorrow.
01:01Hagerstown, Maryland will likely tie a record from 1957 at 95. Scranton, 95 would break the daily record.
01:10And Pittsburgh is going to be really hot. But back in 1994, tomorrow's date took us to 97. We're on track for 95 tomorrow.
01:16Sweltering heat begins to build into the northeast on Wednesday.
01:20And look at Manchester, New Hampshire. Off to the races. 100 degrees, smashing a record by 4 on Wednesday.
01:26We're going to have this right on through the weekend for some, Justin.
