00:00:00For the love of the horse, for generations to come.
00:00:28Welcome to another edition of the TDN Writer's Room podcast, presented by Keeneland.
00:00:32My name is Bill Finley.
00:00:33I'm a correspondent for the TDN and I also co-host the Down the Stretch radio show every
00:00:38Saturday on Sirius XM Radio.
00:00:40Hope everybody's doing well.
00:00:41I'm Randy Moss with NBC Sports and the Bayer Speed Figure Team.
00:00:46Zoe Kavman here with First Racing and XBTV.
00:00:50There's no sign of Lucy there, Randy.
00:00:52I always get worried when we...
00:00:54Oh, there we go.
00:00:55There you go.
00:00:56There she is.
00:00:57In her customary spot.
00:00:59She's out cold.
00:01:00Out cold.
00:01:01Perfect.
00:01:02All is good with the world.
00:01:03I got Bert here.
00:01:04So, you know, he's in his usual spot there as well.
00:01:06So...
00:01:07All right, guys.
00:01:08So a huge weekend of racing, particularly at Santa Anita.
00:01:11And I know Randy was there.
00:01:12I know Zoe was there.
00:01:13I wish I could have been there because it sounded like a lot of fun.
00:01:16But the California Crown concept, which was based on the Pegasus World Cup concept to
00:01:22bring in entertainers, get a big crowd, make it into a big party.
00:01:25I want to talk more about that a little bit later.
00:01:29But when we go through some of these races, the Cal Crown, John Henry, Cabo Spirit.
00:01:33What a nice ride by Abel Cedillo.
00:01:36You know, I guess it's not just New York.
00:01:38You get to the front in a grass race in 25.13, 50.43, and you got a hell of a good shot.
00:01:45They couldn't catch him.
00:01:47Didn't look like he was 24 to 1.
00:01:49And a perfect ride by Cedillo and he wins a big race.
00:01:52Yeah.
00:01:53I called Jerry Bailey and I called George Papapadromou the day before the race because
00:01:59we were looking at this race on paper and Cabo Spirit was literally the only speed in
00:02:04the race.
00:02:05And he had an inside draw.
00:02:06So you figured he's got to go.
00:02:08But you don't really know that until you talk to the trainer.
00:02:11Sometimes this happens and you talk to the trainer, oh, we don't want to be in front,
00:02:14you know.
00:02:15So we called George and you talk about a guy who was excited about the possibility.
00:02:19He said, the more I look at this race, you know, it looks to me like if all goes well,
00:02:24he'll be able to completely control the pace and hopefully when he's 30 to 1, they'll leave
00:02:29him alone on the front end and we'll have something left.
00:02:32And the next day, the day of the race, I heard from somebody else that, you know, man, George
00:02:37is just so fired up.
00:02:38He's so excited about this race.
00:02:40And it played out exactly like it looked like it would on paper.
00:02:44I mean, you didn't know if that made him a winner, but, you know, you knew that he had
00:02:49a really good chance to run well at a big price.
00:02:52And as it turned out, he was good enough to hang on and go wire to wire.
00:02:56I don't think it's honestly, I don't think it says a whole lot about the West Coast contenders
00:03:04for the Breeders' Cup turf.
00:03:07But on this day for $750,000, what an effort.
00:03:12Georgie had a terrific weekend, five wins in all, like he didn't just stop on Saturday.
00:03:17He carried on into Sunday as well.
00:03:19In fact, he wired the last race on Sunday, triggering a pick six carry over into Friday.
00:03:25So George had a great weekend, that horse, brilliant ride by Abel Cedillo.
00:03:30Let's just not forget that George actually won this race last year with a long shot in
00:03:34Balladeer as well.
00:03:37So the only difference between last year and this year was last year it was $200,000 and
00:03:41this year it was $750,000.
00:03:44So George was a very, very happy man all weekend.
00:03:48I don't think that grin ever came off his face.
00:03:51All right.
00:03:52So let's look at the next race, who's the Eddie D, six and a half forongs down the hill.
00:03:56And this begins the Mike Smith story of the day.
00:03:59He's going to come back and win the big one on Sub-San Andor.
00:04:02So he won two of the races.
00:04:04He's 59 years old now.
00:04:05And when the big money is up for grabs, he rides like he's 29.
00:04:09There's no doubt about it.
00:04:10A beautiful ride aboard First Piece, rail skimming the whole way, didn't lose any ground
00:04:17and got to the finish line first.
00:04:18And I want to see what Randy thinks about this too.
00:04:21I don't necessarily see this as a prep for the Breeders' Cup because the six and a half
00:04:27furlong down the hill races are so different than the five furlong turf races that are
00:04:33part of the Breeders' Cup.
00:04:34So it's a great win for First Piece, but I wouldn't take any of these horses.
00:04:38I don't even know if many of these horses will even try the Breeders' Cup.
00:04:41But if they did, I think people have to realize it's just a totally different game.
00:04:46Oh, I completely agree.
00:04:48In fact, last year, not a single runner who competed in the Eddie D went on to run in
00:04:54the Breeders' Cup turf sprint, and that was at Santa Anita.
00:04:57So you got none of them to come back.
00:04:59I mean, you get a lot of these horses in these downhill races that back up from a mile.
00:05:04They're not really five eighths of a mile type horses.
00:05:07As a matter of fact, talking to Miguel Clement and also Dean Reeves, the trainer and owner
00:05:13of, co-trainer and owner of Big Invasion, who was the beaten favorite and finished fourth,
00:05:18or second favorite, actually.
00:05:19I mean, they said basically the same thing.
00:05:22We're not really looking that hard at the Breeders' Cup turf sprint at Del Mar because
00:05:27five furlongs is not this horse's best distance, especially at Del Mar.
00:05:33So the six and a half down the hill is basically going to be our Breeders' Cup.
00:05:37And I think that's what a lot of guys feel.
00:05:39Zoe, do you agree with that?
00:05:41Oh, yeah, absolutely.
00:05:42I mean, first piece has been a specialist on the downhill turf course.
00:05:47And if Mike Smith wasn't already in the Hall of Fame, put him in again.
00:05:51I mean, what a hell of a ride.
00:05:53That was probably one of the best rides I think I've seen Mike Smith ever get.
00:05:59And in fact, talking to Mark Glatt, he was like, yeah, well, he owes us for a few on
00:06:03that one.
00:06:04That's exactly what he said, because he's ridden this horse probably, he's ridden this
00:06:09horse since he broke his maiden on him as a two-year-old.
00:06:12And he's a tricky horse to ride.
00:06:13And there's been a couple of times where maybe he could have, should have won, but he saved
00:06:18the best for last.
00:06:19And that was terrific.
00:06:20Honestly, I believe they're probably going to wind up going with first piece just because
00:06:25of the fact that already in Southern California, those guys, Rancho Tamascal, Tim Cohen, they
00:06:31live down in Del Mar.
00:06:32It's on their doorstep.
00:06:33I think they're probably going to wind up just giving it a shot and seeing what happens.
00:06:38It's five furlongs.
00:06:39They're going to go fast, see what he can pick up, pick up the pieces.
00:06:44But it's not really his cup of tea, to be perfectly honest.
00:06:47The ride definitely made all the difference.
00:06:49Oh, my God.
00:06:50It's brilliant.
00:06:51The story continues in the California Crown, where he rode, again, a terrific race on Sub
00:06:56Sanador.
00:06:57And what an exciting race this was.
00:06:59Sub Sanador wins by a head over National Treasure, who had a nose on Newgate.
00:07:03The big disappointment was Muth, who finished last.
00:07:07And this horse is, even though he's an Argentinian bred, he is Breeders' Cup eligible.
00:07:12You know, can he win the Breeders' Cup?
00:07:14You know, maybe, maybe not, but he's not the kind of horse that's going to come in and
00:07:17be 30 to 1, something like that.
00:07:20And Richard Mandela is very good at bringing horses up to peak in the right time.
00:07:25And that would be at the peak in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
00:07:28I like this horse's race.
00:07:29And I think he's right in the middle of things.
00:07:32Yeah, he really is.
00:07:35And you want to talk about Mike Smith again.
00:07:37He's actually 58.
00:07:38Officially, he's 59.
00:07:41But he lied on his jocks license when he was a kid.
00:07:44So he's actually 58 or 59.
00:07:48But it doesn't matter.
00:07:50In fact, you'll hear from Dick Mandela a little bit later in First Things First, but one of
00:07:53the quotes he gave me when we were talking about Mike Smith is he said, when the race
00:07:59gets to be a million dollars, Mike Smith loses 10 years for each million within the race.
00:08:05So if he's riding for six million dollars, he's going to be like one year old.
00:08:10So he just said the more zeros, the better he rides.
00:08:15It was a terrific race by him.
00:08:18This is a horse who it's taken them a while to get to know and get them to relax.
00:08:23And that's been the key.
00:08:24And funnily enough, Mike Smith has said that as good as this horse was at Santa Anita,
00:08:29he'd worked him a bunch of times at Del Mar and said he's better at Del Mar.
00:08:35Even though he's never run there, he said he gets over the surface down there like butter.
00:08:40So that's kind of a scary thing.
00:08:42It really is.
00:08:43You know how good Mandela is, is getting these guys right for Breeders Cup.
00:08:48He's going to be a big force.
00:08:49He really is.
00:08:50And how about Mandela in the winner's circle looking over his chair and pointing at her
00:08:54and saying, I got you, babe.
00:08:57That was really very clever.
00:09:01So Sanador proved something, I think, in the way that he won.
00:09:06Right.
00:09:07When he when he ran in some of his earlier races, he was speed.
00:09:11When he ran in the Islan, he said just behind Skippy Longstocking with a pretty sanitary
00:09:17trip and made a big run on the outside.
00:09:20Saturday was the first time he'd really sort of been cooped up inside horses and then,
00:09:25you know, had to be in kind of tight quarters in a three horse battle coming down the lane.
00:09:29How would he respond?
00:09:32That was a question Mike Smith had and Mandela.
00:09:35And did he ever respond?
00:09:36I mean, he outgamed those other two horses.
00:09:38It looked to me like Newgate probably had dead aim on everybody at the top of the stretch.
00:09:44But some Sanador fought back in between horses.
00:09:46Now, National Treasure is not going to go to the Breeders Cup Classic.
00:09:49He's going to go to the dirt mile.
00:09:51So you'll get some Sanador and Newgate out of that race going forward.
00:09:55And I think this puts my grievance over.
00:09:58I think this puts some Sanador right in the mix.
00:10:00I mean, I would put the three year olds fierceness and Sierra Leone on top of the mix right now,
00:10:06even though they're east and they'll have to be coming west.
00:10:11Forever Young runs.
00:10:12We take this on Tuesday.
00:10:14He runs in Japan on Wednesday in a mile and a quarter prep race against a really good
00:10:19Japanese horse called Ramjet.
00:10:21So we'll find out a little bit more about where Forever Young is.
00:10:24The other two Japanese horses had their prep already, Ushputisoro and Dermisotogake.
00:10:29You got the, you got the Jockey Club Gold Cup horses, Highland Falls and Arthur's Ride.
00:10:35And then you got some Sanador and Newgate, right?
00:10:37So those kind of right now are the classic horses in the mix as we go forward to Delmar.
00:10:42And I think some Sanador is right in the middle of those with the solid shot.
00:10:47And City of Troy.
00:10:48Well, yeah, I left out City of Troy.
00:10:50We'll talk about him a lot later.
00:10:53Of the American and Japanese horses, those are the ones.
00:10:56And then you mix in City of Troy, who's going to be one of the favorites.
00:10:59And we touched on this also on the show, Nick Luck did.
00:11:04This is just sort of a glimpse at what we might see in the future from Wathanen Racing
00:11:10of Sheikh Tamim of Qatar, who is really, really beefing up his stable, mainly in the UK, but
00:11:18he's also really beginning to focus on the U.S. as well.
00:11:23He bought some Sanador after his first two starts in the U.S.
00:11:27He also bought Hit Show, who three hours later, after the California Crown, won the
00:11:34Lucas Classic at Churchill.
00:11:37So a big weekend for Wathanen Racing, and it's just, I think, the beginning of what's
00:11:42going to be a big emphasis for them in the U.S.
00:11:46Some Breeders' Cup implications on Saturday at Belmont at Aqueduct Meet.
00:11:51The Woodward, we're going to talk to Dylan Davis on our Guest of the Week segment.
00:11:56He'll fill us in on what happened with Tapit Rice.
00:11:58Very nice win, albeit against four horses.
00:12:01I thought the race, though, of the two main ones on the card, the Joe Hirsch, had a little
00:12:06bit more of a Breeders' Cup angle to it.
00:12:10Farbridge is a very interesting horse.
00:12:12He won the Sword Dancer, but he stole the race.
00:12:15He went 50-4 and won 17-1, you know, getting back to that, getting a good horse to lead
00:12:20in slow fractions and what happens.
00:12:23This time around, he got a, so I didn't like him in this race, I said, you know, he stole
00:12:27the race.
00:12:28This time around, he got a completely different trip.
00:12:32He was shuffled back early, he was shuffled back on the turn, he had to come from off
00:12:37of it and got the job and beat the filly to keep her from winning three years in a row.
00:12:45Again, probably it won't matter in the Breeders' Cup, Warlike Goddess, of course, is the horse
00:12:50that he beat.
00:12:51Probably it won't matter in the Breeders' Cup because the European, Charlie Appleby
00:12:54and Aidan O'Brien are probably going to win this, they usually do, or someone else.
00:12:59But this horse moved way up in my book and Zoe, I think among the American contenders
00:13:05for the Breeders' Cup turf, he's as good as anybody.
00:13:09He was the recipient of a perfect Joel Rosario ride, just got a little bit sleepy on him
00:13:15down the backside.
00:13:17The only one sleepier than him was Warlike Goddess, who was right behind him trailing
00:13:22the field down the backside.
00:13:24And I felt so bad for her because I thought she had it won.
00:13:29She really did.
00:13:31She hit the lead, she hit a mark, she switched leads, she took off.
00:13:35And Joel managed to cut down the inside when there's that big gap when they cross over
00:13:40and just got a beat.
00:13:42I mean, beat a fair and square, but take nothing away from Warlike Goddess, seven years old
00:13:48to still be firing at the top of her game.
00:13:50She's going to be sold at the Fazer Tipton November sale.
00:13:53They just released that, but she lost it a heartbreaker because I didn't really love
00:13:58her going in there.
00:13:59Silver Knot was disappointing, to be perfectly honest, but Farbridge won it fair and square.
00:14:05How many times have we seen Warlike Goddess get run down from behind?
00:14:09Not very often.
00:14:11She's usually the one finishing fastest of all.
00:14:13I know Bill liked Warlike Goddess last week, and I was a pretty strong in objection to
00:14:20that, that Silver Knot was a solidly better horse than Warlike Goddess.
00:14:24And when Silver Knot got the beautiful trip, opened up a couple or three links at one point
00:14:28coming into the stretch, I thought, well, okay, he's gone.
00:14:31But he's just not as sharp right now as he was earlier in the year.
00:14:35That's back-to-back races now for Silver Knot where he didn't really run quite up to snuff.
00:14:40I agree, Farbridge, it looks like the best of the American horses, and certainly better
00:14:45than what we saw in California.
00:14:47But the Euros have won nine out of the last 11 Breeders' Cup turfs.
00:14:52You've got Rebels Romance, who won the turf a couple of years ago, sitting out there for
00:14:57Charlie Appleby.
00:14:58You got Los Angeles sitting out there for Maiden O'Brien's camp.
00:15:02You got Char Yarr, who ran well in the turf last year from Japan, who's sitting out there.
00:15:08And John Gosden has a horse called Emily Upjohn, who is also reportedly being pointed
00:15:13for the Breeders' Cup.
00:15:14So any one of those horses, I think, are probably better than the American horses.
00:15:19That's kind of what we've come to expect when we get to the turf.
00:15:22But hey, Farbridge has really, really upped his game.
00:15:27The TDM Writers' Room is brought to you by Keeneland.
00:15:30Now listen up, guys, Keeneland 2024 Fall Meet starts on Friday with 17 days of exceptional
00:15:37racing from October the 4th through the 26th.
00:15:41The meet is going to feature the highest purses in the track's history, with 22 stakes worth
00:15:47a record $9.85 million.
00:15:51And the richest race ever run at Keeneland will be the $1.25 million Coolmore Turf Mile.
00:15:59This weekend is Fall Stars All-Stars weekend, three days with a total of 11 stakes worth
00:16:05$5.8 million.
00:16:06That's a lot.
00:16:07Eight stakes are part of the Breeders' Cup Win and You're In series.
00:16:11We'll talk about them later, but those do award the winners automatic starting positions
00:16:17and free entry into the Breeders' Cup.
00:16:22Looking for bloodstock that shapes the world?
00:16:24You can find it here.
00:16:27Foundation mares that will shape the breed.
00:16:30Weanlings with prime potential.
00:16:32Your next moment in the winner's circle, it's all waiting for you here at the World's
00:16:37Marketplace.
00:16:38Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, where the future is found.
00:16:44Beginning Tuesday, November 5th.
00:16:52This week's fastest horse of the week is brought to you by a really fast horse.
00:16:56Life is good.
00:16:58One of those fast sires at Windstar Farm at the upcoming Fall Breeding Stock Sales.
00:17:02Life is good will have four first crop weanlings that will be selling at Fasig-Tipton, including
00:17:07a half-sister to Newgate, who we just saw run exceptionally well in the California crown.
00:17:12Life is good also has 13 catalog for the Keeneland November sale, including a colt out of grade
00:17:18one winning mare, Alexandra.
00:17:20Life is good was in to Mischief's fastest son, nine triple digit buyers, a three-time
00:17:26grade one winner in 2022 with wins in the Woodward, Whitney and Pegasus.
00:17:31Now fastest horse of the week ran on Sunday at Santa Anita and threw his hat in the ring
00:17:38for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
00:17:39That would be none other than Straight No Chaser.
00:17:43The most recent win that we saw from from Straight No Chaser before Sunday was, if you
00:17:49recall, a couple of years ago, 2023 on the Preakness Undercard when he won the Maryland
00:17:54Sprint in just a tour de force by more than seven links.
00:17:58He had one race earlier this year at Belmont at Aqueduct, a loss.
00:18:03And then he bounces back in a big way on Sunday to win that race by more than six links with
00:18:09Johnny Velasquez and a buyer speed figure of one oh four, which topped all of this week's
00:18:15races.
00:18:16Straight No Chaser headed for the Sprint as this week's fastest horse of the week.
00:18:26Please welcome in now the guests of the week.
00:18:28Dylan Davis, fresh off his win in the Woodward around Tappet Trice and been one of the hotter
00:18:32jockeys and better stories in New York this year.
00:18:35Welcome Dylan.
00:18:36And I'm looking at your stats.
00:18:37It's ways to go, but you look like you're on track to have your best year ever.
00:18:42Right now, you're the leading rider at tied with Kendrick Karmush at Belmont at Aqueduct
00:18:46Meet.
00:18:47You're winning 28, excuse me, 18 percent on the year.
00:18:50And what I think was the most impressive feat that you did was your 36 wins in Saratoga.
00:18:56You only had 19 the year before.
00:18:58Why is this all coming together for you at this time?
00:19:01Hi, Dad.
00:19:02Thanks for having me on the show.
00:19:03You know, I think it was a lot of hard work and grinding it out throughout the years on
00:19:08the Naira circuit and just building my business up with my agent, Mike Migliore.
00:19:14He was a big believer in me in the beginning and just really improving as a rider and and
00:19:22even as Mike improving as an agent.
00:19:24We worked together and I thought communication was a big factor for us and just trying to
00:19:30build every year to a better year and looking better into the future.
00:19:35And I think everything just came into place at the right time for this past summer meet
00:19:40at Saratoga.
00:19:41And I'm really happy with it and just trying to continue to capitalize on all the opportunities
00:19:46that are given to me.
00:19:48And now, if all goes well between now and then, you'll have a Breeders' Cup Classic
00:19:51Mount in Tappett-Trice, who has always been a notoriously difficult horse to ride, right?
00:19:59When he slow breaks out of the gate, sometimes he'll just drop the bit mysteriously in the
00:20:04middle of a race.
00:20:05He'll make an early move.
00:20:06What was it like to ride Tappett-Trice and how much homework did you have to do on the
00:20:10horse?
00:20:11He was actually very difficult because I was watching him.
00:20:15He's a very long, striding, one-move kind of horse.
00:20:21And I actually thought that I was going to be close into that race, maybe stalking Skippy
00:20:25Longstocking there, talking to Todd and the crew.
00:20:30But he just came out of there slow, hopping and doing his thing.
00:20:36I had to go to plan B. He's just doing this little motion, going into the turn.
00:20:40I'm like, man, you've got to be kidding me.
00:20:41I'm in a tough spot already.
00:20:42I have a lot of ground to make up.
00:20:48With riding with a lot of years under my belt, I've been able to know what I have to do out
00:20:54there and do it just quickly.
00:20:58Just getting him into stride and into the backside, I was hugging that rail, just keeping
00:21:02him focused on what he needs something to look at.
00:21:06Those horses were way in front of him at the time.
00:21:10After that, into the second turn, we had to steady a little bit there because Kendrick
00:21:15was off the rail most of the race, ended up going down to the rail.
00:21:19I was hoping that I was able to get through there without maneuvering him and slowing
00:21:23him down.
00:21:24But we had to jump heels and re-rally.
00:21:28He was in between Irad and Kendrick at the time.
00:21:31Skippy Longstocking already made a real tough lead to run down, I thought.
00:21:38He was in between horses there at the quarter pole.
00:21:40He was timid going in between, got through, still had a lot to do.
00:21:46I thought he was already over that intimidation stuff after he passed those two rivals.
00:21:52I moved him to the outside, and then you could really see he really got into a really big
00:21:56stride and good rhythm at that point.
00:21:59I knew he still had a lot to do, but he was really thriving after that.
00:22:03That's exactly what made the difference when you got him to the outside.
00:22:07I literally just watched the replay because I didn't see it live.
00:22:10I'm like, hold on a minute, there's no way he's winning this race.
00:22:14Skippy's gone.
00:22:15He was gone at the eighth pole.
00:22:17I'm like, how does he win this?
00:22:19It was, I don't know if he just slowed down, but it was quite amazing to watch.
00:22:25Even I was in question.
00:22:26I didn't think I was going to get there, but you never know what could happen up front.
00:22:29The horse could get tired, and you always have to do your best out there.
00:22:33I stayed with him all the way through to the wire, and he was able to get it done.
00:22:37I was really surprised, but actually, he just was getting started.
00:22:43I'm learning as I was going throughout the whole race with him.
00:22:45It was my first time on him, and I think that distance is not a problem for him.
00:22:49Now, is it kind of a quandary going forward to the Breeders' Cup Classic?
00:22:53It's going to be a big field, and if he's still showing some signs that he can get intimidated
00:22:58down inside a horse, you don't want to go too wide.
00:23:00Of course.
00:23:02How do you handle that?
00:23:04Well, that depends on post-position, but I think, again, if he runs the same race he
00:23:09did last time, we're going to be next to last.
00:23:11I'll save as much ground as possible in the first turn, and then I hope that that counteracts
00:23:19with losing ground into the second turn.
00:23:22He's not going to show that speed.
00:23:23He's going to save as much ground as possible, and then once he gets that run going, I'm
00:23:27going to have to put him to the outside for sure.
00:23:29He can handle the ground loss, so I think that he'll be able to run a good effort.
00:23:35Dylan, what's your...
00:23:36It's doubtful you're going to get that kind of track at Del Mar either.
00:23:41It's not going to rain at Del Mar, which is...
00:23:43I don't know if that's going to help him or hinder him.
00:23:46I had one more question.
00:23:48You mentioned your agent, Mike Migliore.
00:23:51What's his nickname?
00:23:52He's got a lot of nicknames.
00:23:57Can you tell us a little bit about Mike and your relationship?
00:24:01Because he's a larger-than-life character.
00:24:03We all know he's Mig's brother, but they're like chalk and cheese.
00:24:07Yeah, so I'm really happy with getting Mike.
00:24:10I was at a point where I was going to leave New York because I wasn't doing well enough
00:24:16throughout the wintertime.
00:24:17I thought that I would have to go somewhere again and then come back again and try in
00:24:21the wintertime.
00:24:23I was working with Rudy Rodriguez in the morning at 5.30 with no agent and trying to see my
00:24:29opportunities or what was available to me.
00:24:33He was there every morning, 5.15, trying to get my book.
00:24:38He had John Bozzono as a jockey coming from parks, so I really didn't pay no mind to him
00:24:44because he had no experience in New York and didn't know many people.
00:24:49Because he wanted me so badly, more than anybody, and he didn't have no relationship
00:24:55so we could start on a fresh start, I saw that he wanted the passion and he had the
00:25:02drive that I was looking for in an agent that was willing to put the hard work and lay it
00:25:08down just as badly as I did.
00:25:12I gave him the opportunity and I put a lot of trust into him.
00:25:17That's what we see today, is all that hard work paying off.
00:25:19I was working seven days a week, five o'clock in the morning, every day, hitting barns and
00:25:26working my butt off.
00:25:28He was right there with me and there's a lot of respect and credit to give to my agent
00:25:33for sure.
00:25:34Dillon, speaking of other mounts that you've had this year, you win a grade one on Carson's
00:25:40run.
00:25:41What do you hear from that camp?
00:25:42Is he going to the Breeders' Cup?
00:25:43Will you have the mount?
00:25:45He's running in this Saturday at Aqueducts, I said, winning your in, so I guess based
00:25:50off that performance, we'll see if he's given a chance to run over there.
00:25:56He's been having a great campaign so far this year and I get along with him very well and
00:26:01he's one of my favorite horses to ride.
00:26:04As part of your resurgence here, Dillon, you've apparently caught the eye of Godolphin and
00:26:10Charlie Appleby because you've now shown up on Silver Knot, third in the Turf Classic.
00:26:16You won the Jockey Club Oaks with Beautiful Love.
00:26:18You were third in the With Anticipation with Cavalo Bay, all for Appleby.
00:26:23How did that connection come about?
00:26:26It actually started when I beat Silver Knot with Carson's run at Saratoga.
00:26:31So Flavium wasn't available and I heard that he said, I want that jockey that beat me in
00:26:36that race.
00:26:37So that's how he got me.
00:26:39And again, just trying to ride my best race as possible, communicating well for the team
00:26:44what they need to know and they must have liked what they saw from my riding abilities
00:26:50and my performance for them.
00:26:52So again, just trying to do my best out there for whoever I ride for and I'm happy to ride
00:26:56for new clients, especially Mr. Appleby.
00:27:01And you're doing absolutely amazing.
00:27:04You mentioned Carson's run.
00:27:07He's in this weekend along with the Queens MG.
00:27:10Can you just talk about the pair of them?
00:27:11And I have one question because it baffled me at the time.
00:27:14Why didn't you go to Kentucky Downs to ride Carson's run?
00:27:18I know you stayed to ride the Queens MG, but if you could do it over, would you switch
00:27:23anything up?
00:27:25I don't think so because what happened was the Clement stable, they were too late to
00:27:34decide.
00:27:35We had multiple races to set up for Carson's run and we had given out many calls at Saratoga,
00:27:44maybe eight different trainers and that's not how we handle our business.
00:27:48To the last minute, we don't want to upset trainers or owners that I'm already scheduled
00:27:56to ride.
00:27:57And the Clement stable was very nice to us, willing to give Carson's run back to us.
00:28:06But it was a tough decision to make because I would have made a lot of people upset.
00:28:11And I had the favor in the spinaway, Queens MG, she's a very nice filly, so it was very
00:28:15hard to take off 11 plus races to go ride Carson for a last minute decision.
00:28:22But I'm very happy that I'm able to get back aboard Carson's run and continue on with his
00:28:28career.
00:28:29Do you think she can bounce back this weekend, the Queens MG?
00:28:32I really like her.
00:28:33I think that the wet track that day was really a big factor in her performance.
00:28:39She broke well, but when I got to the turn at the half, she just really couldn't kick
00:28:44on to another gear.
00:28:45She kind of dropped the bridle and I knew I was in trouble, so I was just trying to
00:28:48do my best to try to hit the board with her.
00:28:51I think that the wet track was really a big suit for her.
00:28:54Well, Dylan, you're not the only Davis that's doing well riding.
00:28:57You have such an unusual situation where you sometimes compete against your two sisters.
00:29:02I'm wondering what's that like?
00:29:05If you're in the same race with them, are you aware of where they are?
00:29:08If you beat them by a half length, do you kind of get bragging rights along with David's
00:29:12family?
00:29:13What is it like, and I'm sure it's a very friendly rivalry, but what is that rivalry
00:29:18like?
00:29:19Well, it's definitely bragging rights, especially because we have a lot of dinners together
00:29:24as a family, so who beat who or who could do better with a horse that we've ridden before
00:29:29and what's going on and all that stuff.
00:29:32Again, just going out there, just riding my best race, and I just think of them as another
00:29:37competitor, but if I match up with Katie or Jackie in a duel, I'm trying way hard.
00:29:44I would pass out just to beat them on the wire.
00:29:47I would not let them want to beat me at all.
00:29:50What's got to make those family dinners even more interesting is that your father,
00:29:53Robbie, was also a top jockey on the New York circuit back in the day.
00:29:58I'm just curious now.
00:29:59He's become quite a sire of jockey.
00:30:03Did he encourage you guys to become jockeys, and how much of a help has it been to have
00:30:10him in the background and to grow up in that kind of an environment around riding?
00:30:17Yeah, so he never pushed us to be jockeys at all.
00:30:20He just wanted us to be whatever we wanted to do with our lives, but he introduced us
00:30:25to horses and if we'd like to do that with the career that we choose.
00:30:32He was 100% behind us on whatever we decided, but it was in our blood and nature to do our
00:30:40career with the horses and become jockeys.
00:30:43After that was said and done, he's just 100% behind us and wanted us to do the best we
00:30:49could do at the task.
00:30:53So really, a lot of thanks to him and even continuing on, just improving as a rider or
00:30:59what we have to do with the business to get better as a rider or to get better business.
00:31:04You know that he's going to give us honest feedback for sure.
00:31:09Nice.
00:31:11If you could look back...
00:31:12Oh, sorry.
00:31:13I'm sorry.
00:31:14Yeah, Dylan, you'll be at Keeneland on Friday for the Alcibiades.
00:31:18What do you make of quick kick?
00:31:19Looks like she's got a pretty good chance.
00:31:21Yes, I really love her.
00:31:23She is the reason why I'm going to Keeneland.
00:31:27Tom Amos, I got along with her very well.
00:31:29He said after I won on her on the maiden, he said, I'd really like for you to stay with
00:31:33this filly for next start wherever she goes.
00:31:35And I said, I'm glad to be.
00:31:36So that's, again, communicating with my agent, Mike, for ahead of time to be able to manage
00:31:42that correctly and not get anyone on the wrong side of the end there.
00:31:46But going there for her and I'm really excited that she'll be able to handle more distance
00:31:52and she's a great ride.
00:31:53And yeah, again, that's why I'm going to be going over there.
00:31:59Who's the one person that's really helped you along more than anyone apart from your
00:32:04dad?
00:32:04Obviously, like if you could name like one person that's been instrumental in your career,
00:32:09because you weren't an overnight success.
00:32:12You started in 2012.
00:32:13I mean, 2017, you were on it and you were rolling.
00:32:16But I mean, who's really helped you along as far as a rider or just just either or both?
00:32:26My agent.
00:32:26Yeah, he he built me, you know, into a better person, being able to communicate better and
00:32:32yet like life on the track and off the track, being a better, you know, everything financially
00:32:39and building relationships.
00:32:42I used to be very shy and timid.
00:32:45Well, you know, I would not really want to go out and attack Barnes.
00:32:49I'd be really kind of scared, you know, and intimidated about going to see whoever it
00:32:55didn't matter top outfits or what.
00:32:58But he was really behind me and pushing me and saying they're just just like the rest
00:33:03of us.
00:33:03You know, they put the pants on every day like us.
00:33:05So they're just normal people and just get out there and and do it.
00:33:09You know, the worst thing they can do is say no.
00:33:11And he always pushed that and pushed it.
00:33:13And, you know, now I'm able to be more outgoing, which is what you need to be for a rider and
00:33:19build that business up.
00:33:20So, you know, on and off the track, my agent for sure.
00:33:22So what's the after this Belmont at Aqueduct meet?
00:33:26Right.
00:33:26What's the what's the itinerary for you and Mike after that?
00:33:31We have a lot of success at Aqueduct.
00:33:32You know, we always thought that we would have to go to Gulfstream, but we really don't.
00:33:37You know, the money's great here.
00:33:38My family's here.
00:33:39The kids are growing up here.
00:33:41I got two kids and the schools are great.
00:33:43So, you know, just basing New York and shipping out when we need to on the good horses.
00:33:51And it's interesting that Randy brought that up, Dylan, because obviously staying in New
00:33:54York, you're going to do better financially with the good purses and you would win more
00:33:59races at Aqueduct than you would at Gulfstream.
00:34:01But it seems like a New York rider, in order to get to the very top level, does have to
00:34:06go down to Gulfstream and compete against those guys in that brutally hard meet.
00:34:11And then if you succeed there, I think you've proven to people something that maybe they
00:34:15were looking for.
00:34:16You know, he can go in and ride the best horses at Gulfstream against Velasquez, the Ortiz
00:34:20brothers, Luis Saez and just like a lot like Saratoga.
00:34:23Is it something you think might be part of your future?
00:34:27I think eventually down the road, but I think that I proved myself this past summer at Saratoga
00:34:32that I'm able to do that.
00:34:34So I don't think that I have to do that again for the winter time.
00:34:37I just know the owners and trainers know that I'm available to ride for their horses.
00:34:43You might lose a little bit of business for their daily horses, but being able to compete
00:34:50during the summer, I think it was a bigger factor than the Gulfstream meet actually.
00:34:54But just continuing on and building off of that, I think you can't be at two places at
00:35:02once, but I mean, I've had a lot of success at Aqueduct, so I don't really want to leave
00:35:07that too soon.
00:35:08Well, Dylan, congratulations on what is a terrific year, especially at Saratoga with
00:35:13those 36 wins.
00:35:14Good luck in the Breeders' Cup and thanks for giving us some of your time on today's
00:35:18TDN Riders' Room podcast.
00:35:20Cheers, Dylan.
00:35:23The TDN Riders' Room, also brought to you by our friends at the PHBA, also known as
00:35:27the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association.
00:35:30Over the last few weeks, three PA breds have exceeded the million-dollar mark in earnings.
00:35:35They would be Smooth B, Niecy Marie, and Morning Matcha.
00:35:39We're now less than three months out from the next leg of the Pennsylvania Bred, Pennsylvania
00:35:44Sired Stallion Series at Parks.
00:35:46The next one will be December 30th.
00:35:48It'll be the $100,000 weight for its stakes and the $100,000 misbehavior stakes for Philly's.
00:35:55Both of those are going at the distance of seven-eighths of a mile.
00:35:58And remember, at the end of the series, bonuses the total $50,000 will be awarded to the breeders
00:36:04of the horses with the most points in the series.
00:36:07For the schedule of that and more information, you can go online to pabred.com or you can
00:36:13call this number, 610-444-1050.
00:36:21PA bred, I think we've built a brand at this point.
00:36:24It's excitement at every step.
00:36:28Roses for Deborah just set a new track record.
00:36:31On average, for the past decade, Pennsylvania paid over $28 million a year in breeders'
00:36:37awards, restricted races, and owner bonuses.
00:36:40Plus, PA bred shine on the world's biggest stage.
00:36:43Just three states have bred more Breeders' Cup winners.
00:36:46Learn more at pabred.com.
00:36:49In this week's edition of First Things First, I caught up with Richard Mandela and sub-sanador
00:36:54to talk about all things peppermint.
00:37:03Oh, he's peppermint trained, eh?
00:37:06So, big congratulations.
00:37:10Take me through the race and what you were thinking as the race was playing out, because
00:37:15what a terrific ride by Mikey.
00:37:17Yeah, it really was.
00:37:18The thoughts I had as he went down the backside, he'd never been in tight for us in a tight
00:37:24spot like that with a lot of pressure from the outside and kind of surrounded.
00:37:29And I didn't know if he'd like it or not, but Mike said it just made him tougher and
00:37:34he tried harder.
00:37:35So, we're pretty proud of it.
00:37:38Age is just a number for Mike.
00:37:39He won two races yesterday and it seems like he's riding in the form of his life.
00:37:44I find when it gets to a million dollars, he loses 10 years.
00:37:48And each million goes backwards 10 years.
00:37:51Dick, what's going to be the plan for him going forward?
00:37:54Just take it easy and eat peppermints?
00:37:57Yeah, that's all.
00:37:58We're just going to live it up for a while.
00:38:00But we'll consider the British Cup classic.
00:38:06And I think the stable has serious eyes on the Saudi Cup and Dubai Cup and something
00:38:16like that.
00:38:17Woffman Racing, great guys.
00:38:19Great guys, new in the game, putting an awful lot of money.
00:38:22How appreciative are you to have a horse like this for them?
00:38:26I'm very privileged because I haven't met anybody.
00:38:30They just sent me a gift on my doorstep.
00:38:33Happy early birthday.
00:38:34Here he is.
00:38:35He's beautiful.
00:38:36Thank you, Dick.
00:38:42Many thanks to Dick Mandela for spending the time with me.
00:38:45And yes, Mike Smith does get younger and younger with the more zeros on the price of the race.
00:38:51All right.
00:38:52Just a reminder that Santa Anita does continue this Friday.
00:38:55And it's a very important Friday as we do have a pick six carryover over $83,000 going
00:39:01into Friday's card.
00:39:02The pool expected to exceed $500,000.
00:39:07This weekend is Japan Family Fun Day.
00:39:10Loads of things going on at Santa Anita, including the grade one American pharaoh.
00:39:15We'll have the Tokyo City Cup on Sunday, as well as the Zuma Beach for the two-year-olds
00:39:21on the grass and the Surfer Girl for the two-year-old fillies on the grass.
00:39:25All with Breeders' Cup implications.
00:39:27See you at Santa Anita.
00:39:30So earlier in the show, we were talking about the performances on the track in the California
00:39:35Crown, but that was only a little bit of the story.
00:39:38And it's great to have both Zoe and Randy here because they were both there.
00:39:42The numbers came in.
00:39:43They got 21,000.
00:39:45They bet $17.9 million.
00:39:47Huge increases over the 2023 numbers, where they only, for instance, got 10,133 people
00:39:55in the stands in 2023, which is to be expected.
00:39:58And some of the more dyed-in-the-wool curmudgeonly horse players.
00:40:04I don't need this crap.
00:40:05Who are these people, entertainers?
00:40:07I never heard of them.
00:40:08I had never heard of Shaboosie.
00:40:09I don't know who that is.
00:40:11I do now.
00:40:12But I think that here's a couple of things.
00:40:16Will this create new racing fans?
00:40:19We don't really know, but it can't hurt.
00:40:22And I give first racing credit for trying something different and working hard to bring
00:40:29new people to the track.
00:40:31I think this event has a ways to go before it's equal to the Pegasus World Cup, but I'm
00:40:36sure that as a dry run for the first year, I'm sure they got to be very happy with how
00:40:41it went.
00:40:41So I'll start with you, Zoe, first.
00:40:43What was the atmosphere like?
00:40:46It was fun.
00:40:47It was really fun, and I was all over the place.
00:40:50Now, I mean, it's the first year, right?
00:40:53So things are going to need to be tweaked.
00:40:55Things are going to need to be changed.
00:40:57Shaboosie was great, came on, four songs.
00:41:01I thought the Nick Luck hit with Shaboosie was pretty awesome when he just walked onto
00:41:06the stage and handed him a folded up piece of paper that made him say, writers up.
00:41:12That was genius.
00:41:14The whole thing, I've yet to really see the whole NBC telecast, but I'm sure it looked
00:41:19amazing.
00:41:20And that's what you want to do.
00:41:22What they've done so well down in Florida is to make it an event where people see it
00:41:27and be like, oh, that looks fun.
00:41:28I want to go there.
00:41:30As much as I was running around on Saturday, I still had fun.
00:41:34I would have actually really liked to have seen Shaboosie, but they just happened to
00:41:38play those four songs when I was in the paddock trying to find an interview.
00:41:43So I could hear it in my IFB, but I couldn't actually get to the front of the stage.
00:41:48You know, Beyonce was there, not that anyone saw her, but Beyonce, Cher, Sharon Stone,
00:41:53Jay-Z.
00:41:54I mean, these are A-list crowd that they managed to reel in to come to Santa Anita.
00:42:00So a big, you know, tip of the hat to Belinda for that.
00:42:04The fact they put on some really good races.
00:42:07And, you know, a lot of people said that maybe the California crown, that actual race was
00:42:12the weakest link.
00:42:13It was the best race of all of them.
00:42:15It was a thrilling finish.
00:42:17So that was a really good success.
00:42:19And that whole atmosphere from start to finish was good.
00:42:24The DJ was great.
00:42:25Frank Walker was great.
00:42:26Griffin was great.
00:42:28It was a fun day to be had by all.
00:42:30I don't know how you felt about it, Randy, but it was something that needs to happen.
00:42:36You want it to be an event.
00:42:38Well, I thought it was fantastic.
00:42:40I mean, look, the only way or the best way to create new fans for horse racing is to
00:42:45get them to the track for the first time to begin with.
00:42:48Right.
00:42:48And I would love if there was a stat of those 21,000 people, how many of them were going
00:42:54to the races for the very first time?
00:42:56Because the little impromptu poll that we did running into people around the apron and
00:43:01all that, a lot of them had never been to the races before.
00:43:05Right.
00:43:05And that's the first step.
00:43:07Right.
00:43:07I mean, and they were having a great time.
00:43:11Belinda rolled out the red carpet or the green carpet, as it were, in this particular case.
00:43:15And I thought, I think she deserves a lot of credit.
00:43:18You know, the purse increases were huge.
00:43:21All of them came directly out of the pockets of first racing and not out of the horseman's
00:43:28purse fund.
00:43:30That was a concern that the horseman had when they saw these huge purse increases from 200
00:43:34to 750, you know, for the Eddie D and for the John Henry and from 300 to a million for
00:43:41the California crown.
00:43:421.8 million in purse increases for those three races all came out of Belinda's pocket,
00:43:48essentially, because she wanted to make the event work and not penalize the rank and file
00:43:53horseman.
00:43:53So, I thought it was a great first year of California is a perfect location to attract
00:43:59the celebs.
00:44:00And I think the people had a great time.
00:44:03As far as the Nick Luck thing, that was hysterical.
00:44:06And you got to understand that was not scripted.
00:44:09That was totally impromptu because Shaboosie had agreed and was supposed to give the call
00:44:15for riders up.
00:44:16And when it came time to do riders up, he was in the middle of a song on stage.
00:44:21And apparently, there was another song that was scheduled to come on afterward.
00:44:24And the people were panicking.
00:44:26The Santa Anita people were the horses were ready to go in the paddock and there's Shaboosie
00:44:29going through his thing.
00:44:32Yeah.
00:44:33And so, they got in Nick Luck's ear and said, do something, do something.
00:44:37And so, Nick, the only thing he could do was just to climb up on stage and put himself
00:44:42right in the middle of the act and flagged down Shaboosie and hand him a sheet of paper
00:44:47to read.
00:44:48Only Nick Luck could have pulled that off the way it went.
00:44:52And Shaboosie did a great riders up.
00:44:55You're right.
00:44:55I mean, so that was one of the best ones.
00:44:59And I had something else and I got this second hand.
00:45:02Beyonce was in the far, far hundred to one.
00:45:06She was up there all day just because she wanted to be up there.
00:45:10I think she got there for the last four races.
00:45:11And apparently after the last race was run, she said, can they run a couple more?
00:45:21She apparently had a really good time.
00:45:22It was like, are they going to run a couple more?
00:45:24Can we see two more races?
00:45:26So, I thought that was neat.
00:45:27So, maybe she bet on a winner.
00:45:29Maybe, maybe.
00:45:32So, we've been talking a lot about the Breeders' Cup and let's get back to the Breeders' Cup
00:45:35Classic because, Randy, you ran down a list of horses from all sorts of places that are
00:45:40coming in from the Breeders' Cup.
00:45:42And now it's again time to talk about City of Troy.
00:45:45And he had this prep race, a stage race at Subtle on an artificial surface.
00:45:52You can find it on YouTube and all that.
00:45:55It's very easy to find.
00:45:56And I have no idea who he ran against.
00:45:59He looked very good winning the race against a bunch of stable mates.
00:46:04But I don't know how much it really proved because I don't think that an ability to
00:46:10run on a synthetic surface proves that he can run on dirt.
00:46:14It would be more synthetic, is more easily translated the form to the turf course.
00:46:20And then, you know, Aiden O'Brien, look, he's maybe the best trainer in the world.
00:46:24If he's not there, he's one of the two or three best.
00:46:26But he's a struggle mightily in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
00:46:29He's 0 for 17.
00:46:31Closest he came is with Giants Causeway.
00:46:32He was second to Tisnow beaten by a no.
00:46:35So, I'm not saying that this was a bad thing.
00:46:39But I just don't, in my mind, it didn't really answer a whole lot of questions.
00:46:43Randy?
00:46:44No, it didn't.
00:46:45It really didn't answer much of anything.
00:46:49The four horses that he ran against were all eligible for non-winners of two.
00:46:55And all of them basically would be lower level allowance horses or high-priced
00:47:00claimers in the United States.
00:47:02Congo River, 1 for 7.
00:47:04Democracy, 1 for 11.
00:47:05Master of the Hunt, 1 for 7.
00:47:07Edwardian, 1 for 5.
00:47:09So, he was in against absolutely nothing.
00:47:12And that didn't really prove anything.
00:47:14Of course, if they had put some good horses in there, then they run the risk that possibly
00:47:21that their big public show about City of Troy, I mean, what if he was outrun?
00:47:28That would not look good for the boys at Coolmore.
00:47:31So, they took no chances there.
00:47:34Those four horses, if you watch the race, it was a one-mile race, one-turn mile.
00:47:40And they were absolutely sent out of the gate to try to establish an American-style pace,
00:47:47right?
00:47:48And at least get City of Troy kind of accustomed to that.
00:47:52It was an American starting gate that they brought in with the bell.
00:47:55I don't know how much difference that made.
00:47:56She had a handler standing in the starting gate in close proximity to City of Troy.
00:48:03He did what he was supposed to against those kind of horses.
00:48:05No kickback because it was on Topita instead of dirt.
00:48:09So, you didn't really get anything there.
00:48:12I suppose it's a better, more realistic prep for the Classic than he would have gotten
00:48:18at Ballydole.
00:48:20But I really don't know how much it proved, Zoe.
00:48:25No, it was a workout for him.
00:48:27And it enabled him to take his show on the road and do everything right.
00:48:32And there were a lot of people that showed up.
00:48:35There were three times as many people that showed up for that afternoon or was it evening?
00:48:41What time of day did they do that?
00:48:42I don't know.
00:48:42It was afternoon.
00:48:44It was mid-afternoon.
00:48:45Yeah.
00:48:46There were more people that showed up for that than there were for the last five Fridays
00:48:50in a row at Southwell.
00:48:52So, they had a huge crowd.
00:48:55So, the fact he handled the crowd, there were like 15,000 people there and did everything
00:49:00right.
00:49:01It was free entry.
00:49:02Horse racing is not dead at Southwell by any means.
00:49:05The amount of people that showed up for one race with no gambling, they had food and drinks
00:49:11on hand there.
00:49:12It was a really fun afternoon.
00:49:13I would have loved to have gone to that.
00:49:15People that went absolutely had a fantastic time.
00:49:19A friend of mine went.
00:49:20She said it was brilliant.
00:49:22One of the things that Aiden got out of that for City of Troy was something that wasn't
00:49:27planned.
00:49:28Aiden had delay at the airport, the nearby airport, and the horses were already in the
00:49:35paddock and had been in the paddock for quite a while by the time they even got to the racetrack,
00:49:40by the time he got to Southwell.
00:49:41And it was a big crowd around the paddock.
00:49:44So, he said, in hindsight, it turned out to be great because City of Troy got a chance
00:49:49to be exposed to a lot of people, a lot of crowd that he ordinarily wouldn't have been
00:49:53exposed to.
00:49:54And maybe that helps a little bit when he gets to the classics.
00:49:57So, I'm kind of curious what you would think about this, Zoe.
00:50:00My primary concern about City of Troy is this.
00:50:04He's by Justify, which is great.
00:50:07We know what Justify could do on dirt.
00:50:10He's out of a Galileo mare, okay?
00:50:14Galileos are terrible on dirt.
00:50:18Terrible.
00:50:21The four horses by Galileo then have run on dirt in the past in the Breeders' Cup.
00:50:26Their average margin of defeat was 29 lengths.
00:50:30They can't run at all on the dirt.
00:50:33So, does City of Troy favor Justify or does he favor Galileo?
00:50:39Looking at City of Troy, he does not look like Justify looked.
00:50:45Justify was the big hulking chestnut, super muscular.
00:50:50Galileo was normal size, maybe a little smaller than normal, very kind of sleek and refined.
00:50:58And what I'm told is that City of Troy looks much more like Galileo than Justify.
00:51:05Should I be concerned about that?
00:51:06Because I am.
00:51:08I'm not, not at all.
00:51:10My biggest concern with City of Troy is the kickback question.
00:51:15And the one thing that Aidan said when we had him on was like,
00:51:19well, horses don't, no horse handles kickback.
00:51:21You've got to get him out of it.
00:51:23I'm not sure he's fast enough to get out of the kickback in the American,
00:51:27the way we run our races over here.
00:51:29He's going to be draw dependent and he's going to have to try and get clear.
00:51:33As far as his body type, being on the Galileo side, that's fine.
00:51:37But then you look at a lot of Justifies.
00:51:39He's not throwing these big hulking heavy horses.
00:51:43Just FYI.
00:51:45Look at her tall, lanky, skinny, huge, long frame.
00:51:49He's not throwing himself, which is why he's throwing so many good tough horses as well.
00:51:55So I'm not worried about that whatsoever.
00:51:57My concern with him is kickback.
00:52:00He's going to float over the ground at Del Mar.
00:52:03Absolutely going to skip over it.
00:52:04He's going to absolutely love it.
00:52:06It's just a question of what kind of kickback.
00:52:09Is he going to be quick enough to extricate himself out of the kickback?
00:52:14Randy, it's worth mentioning that Galileo himself ran in the 2001 Breeders' Cup
00:52:20and didn't run any good at all.
00:52:22So that's part of Aiden O'Brien's offer in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
00:52:27So you bring up a very interesting point.
00:52:29I guess we're not going to know the answer until they run the race.
00:52:35Can he beat Senor Buscador?
00:52:37Oh, now that was a disappointing effort.
00:52:39Yeah, I'm sorry.
00:52:41I didn't want to rub it in a little bit.
00:52:44You're meanie.
00:52:48Muth and Senor Buscador were both complete no-shows in that race.
00:52:52Bapper believed that the problem with Muth is that he didn't get the kind of trip that
00:52:56he likes right up there next to the leader, right?
00:52:59He had to take back a little bit, and he was behind several horses,
00:53:03and he didn't handle that very well.
00:53:04That's theory.
00:53:06But Senor Buscador, I don't know what happened there,
00:53:08because I thought he got enough pace to at least make a run, and he made zero run.
00:53:15The TDM Racers' Room is brought to you by XBTV.
00:53:18This week's XBTV Work of the Week is Pacific Classic winner Mixto.
00:53:24On September the 29th, the son of good magic put in his third work
00:53:28since the breakout grade one victory in the Pacific Classic.
00:53:32He went five furlongs in 103 and 3.
00:53:34Doesn't seem like it's terribly fast, but a pure maintenance work, and as you can see,
00:53:39here's about 10 or 15 lengths off of the rail in the middle of the racetrack.
00:53:44He is going to train up to the Breeders' Cup Classic.
00:54:09Everything you need to be informed.
00:54:13Be smart.
00:54:14That's smart with XBTV.

00:54:50TDM Riders' Room also brought to you by West Point Thoroughbreds that celebrated
00:54:55stake success on two different venues this past weekend.
00:54:59Saturday, the two-year-old Pascaline won the Laurel Futurity in only his second career start,
00:55:06and then on Sunday, we kind of highlighted this last week, that veteran sprinter Jackson
00:55:11Traveler won again, reached a million dollars in career earnings by winning the David M.
00:55:17Vance Stakes at Remington Park on the undercard of the Oklahoma Derby.
00:55:21Arnaud Delacour trains Pascaline, who was acquired at the Tattersalls Cravens sale of
00:55:26two-year-olds in training.
00:55:28Steve Asmussen trains Jackson Traveler, done a magnificent job with that sprinter,
00:55:32who now has improved to 11 for 33 lifetime.
00:55:37So a lot of action with Breeders' Cup ramifications this weekend coming up,
00:55:41and let's start with Keeneland.
00:55:43And actually, before we get to Saturday's card, there's a big grade one on Friday,
00:55:47on opening day, the Darley Alcibiades.
00:55:50This is a race that is traditionally a pretty productive prep for the Breeders' Cup.
00:55:54Juvenile Philly.
00:55:55The money will probably come in on Immersive, who won the spinaway for Brad Cox.
00:56:01Quick Kick is a horse I mentioned with Dylan Davis, who looked pretty impressive to me
00:56:06last time out for Tom Amos.
00:56:09And then here's another horse, Continuity, who has got really nice figures and is two
00:56:13for two, but won an allowance race at Colonial Downs.
00:56:17Don't know how this Philly is going to be able to stretch out or not.
00:56:21Randy, your thoughts on the Alcibiades?
00:56:24Well, I mean, look, I think the favorites are going to be Immersive and Quiteside,
00:56:28who were one-two last time out on the spinaway.
00:56:30And they were four lengths ahead of the rest of the field.
00:56:33I was also fascinated with Continuity.
00:56:36I went back this morning and watched Continuity's race at Colonial Downs, the allowance win.
00:56:42Her career debut was a very slow race at Ellis Park.
00:56:46I went back and looked at those charts, too.
00:56:47It was a legitimately slow race.
00:56:50So I was really surprised to see Continuity run the way she did at Colonial.
00:56:55She had a three-wide trip.
00:56:56She was sitting just outside of the two leaders, just inhaled them, drew off through the lane.
00:57:01Nice strides.
00:57:03Ben Curtis aboard.
00:57:05I thought Continuity, now she gets the rail, so she'll save some ground.
00:57:10She might have to show a little more speed in here because of the inside post position
00:57:14in a large field.
00:57:15But I agree that I think those are the leading contenders in the field.
00:57:20I concur as well.
00:57:21I like Quiteside.
00:57:23I'm not sure she loved the mud last time out.
00:57:26Not sure what the weather's going to do this weekend at Keeneland either.
00:57:29I think it's going to be good, but I'll take Quiteside to beat all of them.
00:57:34All right.
00:57:34Now we start with the grade ones on Saturday at Keeneland.
00:57:37We start with the First Lady, which is a one-mile turf race for Phillies and Mayors.
00:57:42Chad Brown has won this race six straight times.
00:57:46And he's got, how many does he have in here?
00:57:49Well, he's got a bunch, obviously.
00:57:51Have to take a look at that.
00:57:53But of the Chad Brown horses, I think I kind of like...
00:57:55This is a tough race and a tough race to handicap.
00:57:59I kind of like Whitebeam the best of this group because I think the Diana prior to this
00:58:05was the best older Philly and Mayor turf race run in this year on anybody's schedule.
00:58:12It was a terrific race.
00:58:14More of the Canadian champion was second right behind Whitebeam.
00:58:17Gina Romantica, another one of those.
00:58:19She'll be back in this race as well for Chad Brown.
00:58:22But Zoe, let me ask you this.
00:58:24Do you see this as necessarily a prep for the Breeders' Cup Philly and Mayor turf,
00:58:28or is it a prep for the Breeders' Cup mile?
00:58:31I think you could go either way in this.
00:58:33I mean, there are many...
00:58:36It's going to be a really good race.
00:58:37Listen, you've got A.G. Bullitt in there for Richie Boulters,
00:58:40who just won so impressively at Kentucky Downs.
00:58:43She is going to be the speed of the speed.
00:58:45There is no going to be...
00:58:46They're not going to be going 52 here.
00:58:48They're going to be rolling right along.
00:58:50And who knows?
00:58:50They might not catch her because she is super, super quick.
00:58:54And then Dermot Weld ships in his Philly.
00:58:58And then she's a really, really good Philly.
00:59:00Been running against a boy.
00:59:01She just took down a grade three.
00:59:04You know, she ran second to Diego Velasquez.
00:59:06I'm not sure we've seen the best of this daughter of Chamondelle for Dermot Weld.
00:59:11Do you like her, Randy?
00:59:13Not really.
00:59:14No, I looked at the time form ratings and watched some of her races.
00:59:20And I'm usually partial toward the Europeans when they come over here for good reason.
00:59:27This one, she's going to have to show me.
00:59:29I don't like her all that much.
00:59:31The horse I like.
00:59:32And you can't like anything a lot, right?
00:59:35A.G. Bullitt looks so good winning her last race at Kentucky Downs.
00:59:39And I had a talk with Richie Boulters at Santa Anita
00:59:43about whether they might even think about running her in the turf sprint,
00:59:49which is a possibility as well.
00:59:50He's kind of toying with that idea.
00:59:52But Gina Romantica, this is the time of year last year
00:59:56when she really turned a corner in October at Keeneland
01:00:00and ran a gigantic race to win this and run down in Italian with a big number.
01:00:05And then she came back to run huge in defeat in the Breeders' Cup mile.
01:00:10And now Gina Romantica looks like she's kind of headed the right direction again.
01:00:14Her last race, I thought, in the Ballston Spa was the best race she's run so far this year.
01:00:20I thought she was the best horse in there.
01:00:21She was beaten to neck by her stablemate,
01:00:23Bout Cachet, with a little bit of a wide trip.
01:00:26So I think she's going in the right direction.
01:00:28It's going to be tough.
01:00:29I mean, there's a lot of really good horses in here.
01:00:31But I'm going to give an edge to Gina Romantica.
01:00:34All right.
01:00:35Saturday's card continues with the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity.
01:00:38And the obvious favorite is number one, Ferocious,
01:00:41who was second as the odds-on favorite in the hopeful,
01:00:43beaten by Chancellor McPatrick.
01:00:45We'll be talking more about him in just a little bit.
01:00:48Ferocious will be hard to beat.
01:00:49I got a little bit of, well, I don't know if it's a wise guy pick,
01:00:51because it's trained by Brendan Walsh.
01:00:53But if you want to look back at the replays of some of these races,
01:00:56I thought East Avenue ran just a tremendous race, breaking his maiden at Ellis Park.
01:01:01And I think he's a contender.
01:01:03Did he beat anybody there?
01:01:04I don't really know.
01:01:05But I think he's going to be good enough to be in the mix here.
01:01:08What do you think, Randy?
01:01:09He's bred to be a good horse.
01:01:11He's out of an unraced mare named Dance Music, who in the dam now,
01:01:15Dance Music is a half-sister to Cody's Wish.
01:01:18It's from the female family of Cody's Wish.
01:01:21Bed down to six to five in that debut quick speed.
01:01:24But he's bred to go longer, obviously, by Medaglia d'Oro out of a Gosepper mare.
01:01:28So yeah, I mean, I thought East Avenue looked really good.
01:01:32But like you say, Ferocious, I think they probably would have rather drawn a post
01:01:38other than the rail because it kind of forces the hand of Luis Saez a little bit from the inside.
01:01:44But this horse has shown a tremendous amount of ability.
01:01:47And he's definitely the horse to beat.
01:01:50He was game last time because he re-engaged in the last 16th of a mile.
01:01:54So here's to that question, the horse to beat in there for Gustavo Delgado.
01:01:59I like what you said about East Avenue.
01:02:01That was a visually very, very impressive race from him, the son of Medaglia d'Oro.
01:02:07And then watch out for Massero for Del Roman's son and not this time.
01:02:11He's screaming out for two turns.
01:02:13He ate an awful lot of dirt in that one turn grade three Iroquois last time out.
01:02:18Two turns is going to knock him right between the eyeballs.
01:02:21Let me give you a long shot in here now as well.
01:02:25Chad Summers has a colt in here named Filoso.
01:02:30In his last start at Saratoga, when they ran him a mile in the Wilson shoot,
01:02:35they hustled him early to get in position.
01:02:37But where the shoot meets the main track there, he got shuffled back a couple of lengths.
01:02:43Dylan Davis was on him that day, had to grab a hold of him.
01:02:46And then he got shuffled back again going into the second turn behind horses.
01:02:50But man, when he got a clear sailing along the inside, he did cut the corner,
01:02:54got a nice rail run.
01:02:56But boy, he showed a nice turn of foot to just open up really quickly.
01:02:59I think he's better than that 76 buyer speed figure indicated.
01:03:03I think he'll love the two turns.
01:03:05And he got a turn and a half last time.
01:03:08So I think Filoso is 15 to 1, 20 to 1.
01:03:11Might be a pretty nice long shot to put in your exotics.
01:03:15He's also named after a Jersey guy, Louis Filoso, who was a great guy
01:03:20and one of the smartest handicappers you're going to meet here in the Mid-Atlantic.
01:03:25And Alan Gold is his very good friend.
01:03:27So his name for Louis Filoso.
01:03:30And I'm sure Louis is going to have a great thrill watching this horse go forward.
01:03:34So good luck to him.
01:03:36All right, we keep moving on.
01:03:37And we have the Coolmore Turf Mile.
01:03:39Three Chad Browns in here.
01:03:41And Carl Spackler, I can't see past him.
01:03:45You know, this race is, I don't think it's any more difficult than the four-star Dave
01:03:50where he won by three and a half lengths.
01:03:52He's just in very good form right now.
01:03:54And he's the coolest named horse in horse racing, too.
01:03:56So what a forewarned sword.
01:03:58But, you know, Chad Brown, maybe he'll, you know, we're seeing this more and more.
01:04:02And it's becoming a phenomenon with Chad Brown.
01:04:06You bet on the other Chad Brown, which would be a couple of different horses in here.
01:04:12But that wouldn't include Carl Spackler.
01:04:14But he's just in great form right now.
01:04:16Loves the mile distance, five or six lifetime over it.
01:04:19And obviously a prep for the Breeders' Cup mile.
01:04:23And I think old Carl Spackler will get it done.
01:04:25So what about the Europeans in here?
01:04:28Uh, I'm not in love with any of the Europeans, to be honest.
01:04:34If I'm just taking a look.
01:04:36I mean, Kikuli for Harry Charlton.
01:04:41Well, we'll see what he can do.
01:04:43The three-year-old by Kingman.
01:04:44He's OK.
01:04:46If I had to pick one to beat Carl Spackler, which is going to be hard to do.
01:04:50Running B is a perfect two for two at Keeneland for Chad.
01:04:54Florent Giroux is very good on the longer shots of other trainers.
01:04:58So that's probably where I'd land.
01:05:01But it's Carl Spackler's race to lose.
01:05:03Yeah, to me, the biggest threat would be more than looks from the Cherie DeVoe barn.
01:05:08They were planning on giving him his first start of the year,
01:05:12a nice, easy spot in the lure stakes at Saratoga.
01:05:15But then it got washed off the turf.
01:05:17So Cherie DeVoe needed a race, had to call an audible,
01:05:20had to put him into the four-star Dave, even though she knew he wasn't 100% fit.
01:05:25He was second to Carl Spackler that day.
01:05:27That'd be three and a half links.
01:05:29He was only beating two links in the Breeders' Cup mile last year.
01:05:32He's run a couple of triple digit buyers.
01:05:34So if he bounces back to his peak form and maybe if Carl Spackler doesn't get the best trip,
01:05:40then I could see more than looks running well.
01:05:42As far as the Europeans go, they're both interesting.
01:05:45I don't know if they're good enough.
01:05:46Kukuli is a half-brother to Frankel.
01:05:48Oh, is he?
01:05:49Out of the mere kind.
01:05:51Yeah, out of the mere kind.
01:05:52So he's been a very important horse for Judd Mott.
01:05:56You know, obviously, he's nothing like his half-brother.
01:06:00But I mean, if the light really comes on over here with Frankie DeTore, who knows?
01:06:04He's got the bloodlines.
01:06:06And the interesting thing to me about Mountain Bear is that
01:06:09the last time we saw Mountain Bear over here, if you remember,
01:06:14he closed like a bat out of hell at 22 to 1 to finish second in the Breeders' Cup juvenile turf
01:06:20and then pulled up lame on the backside and had to be carted off in a horse ambulance with a
01:06:24non-displaced lateral condylar fracture.
01:06:29The next day, they had surgery on him.
01:06:33It was apparently a relatively minor surgery as those types of injuries go.
01:06:39But he was out for seven months until he came back in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
01:06:46And now, lo and behold, here Mountain Bear is back again
01:06:49in the U.S. at another one-mile race, this time at Keeneland.
01:06:53He tends to break very slowly from the gate.
01:06:57And then he comes flying.
01:06:59Even by U.K. standards, he breaks slowly from the gate.
01:07:02So you can imagine how far back he might get here.
01:07:06And that's the biggest concern I have about Mountain Bear.
01:07:08And I have a concern, too, because a lot of the Europeans don't often,
01:07:13they wouldn't often face a turf course like Keeneland's.
01:07:15It's a sand-based turf course.
01:07:17It's a good turf course, but some horses either love it or they hate it.
01:07:21It's not one for all.
01:07:23It will be a completely different turf course than, say,
01:07:26one out at Santa Anita, one at Delmar, one at Churchill.
01:07:29It's a sand-based turf course.
01:07:32We'll be doing these three races, by the way, this weekend from the studio,
01:07:36Jerry Bailey and I and others.
01:07:37Nick Luck will be in Keeneland.
01:07:39So we're looking forward to that.
01:07:40These three races that we're just talking about will be on the air, actually, Saturday and Sunday.
01:07:45All right.
01:07:45I look forward to that as well.
01:07:46OK, the Saturday card at Aqueduct, two two-year-old races that have a lot to say
01:07:51about the Breeders' Cup, the first set, prep for the Breeders' Cup, Juvenile Philly.
01:07:55And Randy, you know, a lot of times, you know, even it's interesting to me
01:08:00because you're a buyer speed figure guy.
01:08:02A lot of times you'll look kind of like you'd like to do.
01:08:05You look deeper than the numbers themselves.
01:08:07Well, this horse should have got a better number because he was real wide, whatnot.
01:08:11Yeah.
01:08:11But if you just go strictly on the numbers, then sends a parole for Chad Brown,
01:08:17who could have an absolutely phenomenal day, is not supposed to lose this.
01:08:22A 94 buyer makes this horse at least 20 points.
01:08:26Well, let's see.
01:08:26Someone else went a 75 pond rate, at least 19 points faster than any other horse in this race.
01:08:34All right, well, this looks like a very good horse to me.
01:08:37I mean, I thought that race was visually dazzling.
01:08:41I mean, it says bump start, I think.
01:08:44Well, no, actually, this is taken back.
01:08:45What happened was she broke very well, was in between horses.
01:08:49And I read Ortiz was so confident that he just grabbed ahold of her,
01:08:52took her back, steered her outside to stalk a couple of links off the pace.
01:08:56And then she just just blew him away.
01:08:59I mean, I thought that was a fabulous effort.
01:09:01She's by gunrunner.
01:09:02She's read to run all day.
01:09:03So the distance shouldn't be a problem.
01:09:05She's drawn well.
01:09:07Well, I honestly, I think she's the Breeders' Cup juvenile fillies winner.
01:09:11So I'm really looking forward to seeing her run.
01:09:15She's good.
01:09:16I'm right with you there, Andy.
01:09:17And I'll add in Snow White for Danny Gargan, the maiden.
01:09:21She's a very good filly.
01:09:23She'll get the blinkers on.
01:09:24I wish she didn't have.
01:09:25I wish she wasn't drawn down on the rail.
01:09:28But she'll get Joelle Rosario.
01:09:29And we'll see what kind of trip that she can get.
01:09:31But Senza Patrol was absolutely scintillating.
01:09:35She reminds me, Bill, of Ways and Means when she broke her maiden at Saratoga last year
01:09:41as a two year old.
01:09:42And I mean, things didn't develop as well for Ways and Means because she had all kinds
01:09:46of trouble in her next start.
01:09:47Then she got hurt.
01:09:48But yeah, I can compare the two.
01:09:50And I think in Ways and Means, by the way, ran a huge race this past weekend.
01:09:54She'll be one of the favorites for the Filly Muir Sprint, as will Sharp Azteca, who also
01:09:59runs next weekend in the Chillingworth at Santa Anita.
01:10:02Sweet Azteca.
01:10:03I said Sharp.
01:10:04Sweet Azteca, daughter of Sharp Azteca.
01:10:06Thank you, Zoe.
01:10:07You're welcome.
01:10:08The Champagne Race 8 at Aqueduct.
01:10:11And again, Chad Brown, he is going to have the favorite in both of these races and a
01:10:17good chance to sweep them.
01:10:19Chancellor McPatrick was not the favorite in the hopeful.
01:10:22Ferocious, who we've talked about earlier, was.
01:10:25If you watch this race, this horse had no business winning.
01:10:29Hit the gate, bumped, lost iron.
01:10:33You know, the chart guy really picked up on a lot of problems.
01:10:36And the horse was so far behind.
01:10:38It's like, OK, he's not ever going to overcome all these excuses.
01:10:41Perhaps he'll close well and finish third or something like that.
01:10:45No, he after being seventh at the top of the stretch, he just motored by them all to win
01:10:50by a half length over a very good horse and ferocious.
01:10:54This looks like, again, almost a just, you know, no brainer to me.
01:10:59Would like to see something like to say something a little bit more creative or come up with
01:11:03that dangerous 12 to one shot.
01:11:06But I don't think you have to do that.
01:11:08This is Chancellor McPatrick's race to win.
01:11:11He better try and get out of the gate a little bit quicker because Tip Top Thomas is a good
01:11:15horse.
01:11:16He beat a good horse called Rookie Card.
01:11:18He came back to be second again the other day.
01:11:21And if he gets away from him, he's going to have to run him down late.
01:11:24I would love to see Chancellor Patrick actually get out of the gate and get into the race.
01:11:30Doesn't get out of the gate and he doesn't like kickback.
01:11:32Those are two things that are going against him here.
01:11:35I love him.
01:11:35Don't get me wrong.
01:11:36He's an extremely good horse and he's the horse to beat.
01:11:39But he needs to be just a little bit more professional.
01:11:43Yeah, I mean, I think you can look at the number buyer speed figure of 88.
01:11:47And I think most of the speed figure makers would have Chancellor McPatrick is the fastest
01:11:51horse in here.
01:11:52And you can say, OK, you know, he's bred to go long.
01:11:55He's by McKinsey out of a Bernardini mare.
01:11:57And you can say, OK, he won the hopeful.
01:11:59He's a grade one winner to like Chancellor McPatrick because of any perceived trouble
01:12:05that he had in the hopeful, I think is is the wrong thing to do, because, yeah, he was
01:12:12way back in the hopeful.
01:12:13He got bounced around at the gate.
01:12:15But in his career debut at Saratoga, he had no such issues early and he was still nine
01:12:20links back.
01:12:21So he's got zero speed, at least what it seems like so far in his first two lifetime starts.
01:12:29I'm with Zoe.
01:12:30I think he needs to be a little bit closer to the pace.
01:12:32He's got an outside post.
01:12:34They're going to have to use him a little bit more, I think, to try to get over tip
01:12:37top Thomas and uncaged, I think, would be the two biggest dangers.
01:12:43Uncaged broke his maiden sprinting, obviously, at Saratoga, and he's by Kurland.
01:12:48So he's bred to be better around two turns, certainly than he is at six furlongs.
01:12:55But yeah, I mean, Chancellor McPatrick is a is a deserving favorite.
01:12:58Didn't get the best draw, though.
01:13:01No.
01:13:01All right.
01:13:01So let's turn our attention to California.
01:13:03We do not have any past performances out yet is maybe Zoe will be up on who is going to
01:13:08run in the American fair on Saturday.
01:13:10Is gaming for Baffert going to run, Zoe?
01:13:13And if so, that's the obvious favorite.
01:13:15I think he's going to run.
01:13:17I can't confirm or deny it.
01:13:19But yes, he's been doing everything right.
01:13:22And he's a really good horse.
01:13:24I mean, Bob's just got an arsenal in there.
01:13:27I think he just goes down and was like, you, you, you, you're in.
01:13:32Not today.
01:13:32Not today.
01:13:33You're in.
01:13:34You're in.
01:13:35I'm going to really, really make a bold prediction.
01:13:38Bob Baffert will win this race.
01:13:41I'm gaming on the Del Mar Futurity.
01:13:45The one two finishers they're expected to run the American fair on McKinsey Street was
01:13:50the horse that finished second and ran really well.
01:13:53Gaming is by game winner.
01:13:54So he's bred to go long.
01:13:58Mike Pegram, the owner has casinos now.
01:14:00So gaming is a logical name, even with game winner is the sire.
01:14:04The three amigos, Mike Pegram, Carl Watson, Paul Whiteman are the three owners there.
01:14:09Yeah, he looks like a solid, deservingly solid favorite.
01:14:13And by the way, also this past weekend, Baffert unveiled another horse that we should keep
01:14:19an eye on a horse called Kalia Bay, who on Saturday on the undercard of the California
01:14:25crown races, literally ran a hole in the wind to win his first time start started like by
01:14:29eight and a half links or something like that in super fast time.
01:14:33So add that to your list of Bob and I'm sure we'll see a lot more be unveiled by the Baffert
01:14:39barn between now and the end of the year.
01:14:41There's a few more coming.
01:14:43Many thanks to Katie Petruniak, who keeps doing these and they're better and better
01:14:48each week.
01:14:48So in this week's Breeders' Cup Connections feature, we meet Zardo Estrada.
01:14:54He's the groom for that fast, fairly sweet Azteca.
01:14:58She's pointing to the grade three Chillingworth stakes this weekend at Santa Anita.
01:15:04I think my favorite now is because when you start working with her, it's
01:15:13nice and never comfortable with me.
01:15:16When I walk, sometimes I left the halter outside and put a bandage and it never move.
01:15:25I make it like 25 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes with the horse inside the stall working and
01:15:32massage and play with a little bit.
01:15:35And I'm not working all day, but it's much better for me.
01:15:47Well, that's a wrap on this week's show.
01:15:49I want to thank our special guest, Dylan Davis.
01:15:51I want to thank my partners, Randy Moss and Zoe Cabin, and our editors and producers,
01:15:55Katie Petruniak, Anthony LaRocca and Ali LaRocca.
01:15:58This is it for this week's show.
01:16:00But first, we got to say hi to Lucy.
01:16:03Hi, Lucy.
01:16:05Can you bark?
01:16:05No, you're not going to bark.
01:16:09And we welcome again our mascot, Lucy.
01:16:12Thanks for watching.
01:16:13We'll talk to you next week.
