00:00After a valiant effort in the Breeders' Cup Classic, Life is Good officially retired to
00:06Windstar Farm.
00:08Trainer Todd Pletcher tells us what he'll miss about the four-time Grade 1 winner, and
00:11Elliott Walden talks about the initial stud plans for their new addition.
00:17Life is Good came to the farm Sunday morning.
00:20We picked him up at 7.
00:22He came in and settled right in.
00:24It was a hard race yesterday, so for him to show as much energy and enthusiasm as he did,
00:29it's really exciting.
00:30It was a tough decision to decide which was the right race for Life is Good to run in
00:35on Breeders' Cup Day, because he's so versatile.
00:39We just felt like, with his body of work and his success leading into it, that he deserved
00:43a chance at champion older horse and horse of the year.
00:47He took it to flight line, and we thought he ran a courageous race.
00:50He just couldn't quite stay out the last part, but I think he went out in style.
00:56When people remember Life is Good as a racehorse, they will remember that he participated in
01:02all the big races.
01:04He's won nine out of 12, and four Grade 1s.
01:07I think from a standpoint of what we've had here at Windstar, he would be at the very
01:13top.
01:14To me, the three most exciting races that we had with Life is Good was the Del Mar Breeders'
01:21Cup Dirt Mile, when he basically flew the entire time.
01:25Coming past the 16th pole, it's Life is Good, and this colt is incredible.
01:33Life is Good.
01:34What advice...
01:35Also, to come back after that and go to Gulfstream, run against Nick Sko, who's defending Breeders'
01:41Cup Classic and eventual horse of the year, and certainly the Whitney, to me is always
01:46one of, if not the most prestigious older horse race run in the U.S., and to win that
01:51I think is spectacular.
01:54I think what makes Life is Good so special is that he has that unique ability to go fast
02:00and carry that speed over a distance of ground, and also just from a trainer's perspective,
02:07he was very healthy, very sound, great airway, and just loved his job.
02:12Life is Good is a tremendous physical.
02:16He's about 16.1, extremely well-balanced, so he's a little bigger than into mischief,
02:22and I think Life is Good showed that he wanted to compete at every level, every race, every
02:27work, being by into mischief, and then also having distorted humor on the bottom.
02:32He gets a double dose of that competitiveness.
02:35He was such a huge part of our stable for almost the last two years that literally our
02:42schedule was built around his schedule, and so we're going to miss him a lot, but at the
02:49same time we're really pleased that he's able to retire to a farm like Windstar and
02:55get an opportunity to prove himself as a stallion, and we look forward to seeing his babies.
03:01Life is Good's been really well-received so far.
03:05You know, he's getting mares worthy of his stud fee at $100,000, and we're real excited about it.
03:12He's one of the greats that we've ever had, and being by into mischief and with his physical
03:19presence and athleticism, we're super excited about his next career.
