00:00Darley stands three Group 1 winning stallions all by their own sires with first foals in 2021.
00:10Buyers of the upcoming foal sales will have the chance to see the first progeny of Blue Point, Two Darn Hot, and Massar.
00:19We caught up with members of Team Darley to hear more about these sires' first foals.
00:26Massar broke his maiden in May of his two-year-old season.
00:30This is a very early two-year-old, especially for a horse that went on to win a derby.
00:34He went to the Guineas and he finished a very good third.
00:36From the Guineas he went and won his derby and again beat Saxon Warrior, beat Roaring Lion again.
00:41When I look back through that derby later on, it was a very deep race.
00:45I think there were four or maybe five future Group Stakes winners in there, so a really deep renewal of the race.
00:50So for Massar to win it in the way he did was incredibly impressive.
00:53He covered 146 mares that first year and it was a good book, a strong book.
00:57I think we pitched him at a good fee. He was competitively priced at £15,000.
01:01He was £14,000 in his second year and he covered just under 100 mares.
01:06We've been really happy with Massar's foals.
01:08We've got some really nice ones here on the farms at Dalham.
01:11The team, we spend a lot of time going to see them each week and they really improve.
01:16They're slightly different types.
01:18There are some that you'll think will be quite precocious and early, a bit like him.
01:22And there are some that will need a bit of time.
01:24There will be more yearling prospects for commercial breeders.
01:28His brilliance came at four into King's Stand.
01:31He was an amazing winner to King's Stand.
01:33At that stage, we were desperate to stand him.
01:36Charlie Appleby, thankfully, made the right call and brought him back to Ascot.
01:41He did this amazing feat of two Group Ones.
01:45The only horse ever to win three Group One sprints at Ascot.
01:49He was a hell of a racehorse.
01:52Heavily oversubscribed in his first year, which wasn't a surprise.
01:55He covered 180 mares.
01:57Huge level of fertility.
01:59And covered some very, very nice mares.
02:01People really stepped up and sent him a very nice, high-quality mare.
02:06This wasn't a surprise, but probably surprised how quickly they came for him in his second year.
02:12People will describe a Chamarel head.
02:14They do have a little bit of that.
02:16But what they have is the great shoulder and great hip that Chamarel had.
02:19And a lot of movement.
02:21They're on a real improve for us.
02:25I think come November, you're going to see some great representations of Bluepoint.
02:31He's obviously a really top-class two-year-old.
02:34He's a really impressive winner of the Dewhurst.
02:37One of the best Dewhursts, I think, in the last 20 years.
02:40He's beaten Commonwealth Cup winners, Derby winners.
02:44He's just a phenomenal two-year-old who went on to be a top-class three-year-old.
02:49Very good performance in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
02:52To Don Hott's been incredibly well-received for the two seasons we've had him.
02:57He has covered a book of mares from all the top breeders in Europe.
03:02Some really high-class mares.
03:04Right from the get-go, with the first foals, the reports were really positive.
03:08And then, obviously, we've all been out and about.
03:11I can honestly say I've consistently seen some of the nicest foals by any of our stallions ever.
03:17I think they have a lot of debauchery about them in the fact that they can be quite compact.
03:23But they've probably got a little bit more of that Singspiel quality and a bit of To Don Hott's own quality.
03:28When you've got all the top breeders telling you they've got nice foals at home,
03:33a lot of them have come back and they'll be using them again next year.
03:41.
