00:00The team at Mill Ridge Farm has anxiously been awaiting their chance to show off the
00:06first crop of yearlings from Breeders' Cup champion Oscar Performance.
00:10We stopped in at Mill Ridge and took a look at a few yearlings heading for the Keeneland
00:14September sale.
00:17Oscar Performance was a brilliant racehorse, arguably Kitten's Joy's most brilliant racehorse.
00:23So Oscar was raised here on the farm for Mr. and Mrs. Ammerman, showed good ability before
00:29joining Brian Lynch and breaking his maiden in Saratoga in kind of breathtaking fashion.
00:34He was a TDN Rising Star on that day.
00:37His win in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf was really something to marvel.
00:41He broke from the 13 hole, broke quickly, beat everyone to the turn, dictated a quick
00:46pace and then accelerated down the stretch to really put a good group of horses away.
00:52Oscar Performance by four, Lancaster Bummer, Good Samaritan, Oscar Performance, bravo!
01:00And he continued to be the best turf horse of his generation.
01:04He went on to win the Secretariat Stakes and the Belmont Derby, stretching out to a mile
01:09and a quarter.
01:10And then as a four year old, he was shortened back by Brian Lynch and set the world record
01:14in a mile and then won the Woodvine mile against another competitive field.
01:17It's Oscar Performance in front.
01:20Oscar Performance wins the poker by a length and a half over Major Luke.
01:25Physically, he's a very imposing horse, especially for a turf horse.
01:29Oftentimes, we don't think of them to be very physical.
01:33To stand into him, he's over 16 one hands and his balance, because he is so well proportioned,
01:39you have to really stand into him to see how big he is.
01:44The yearlings we've had on the farm and the foals we've had on the farm have all had great
01:47balance and really great presence of mind.
01:50They're confident horses.
01:52Physically, they have good balance.
01:54They're nice movers.
01:56We took two very nice fillies up to Saratoga for the select sale.
02:00Of the two that we sold, one brought $180,000 to Bo Bromagin, and she was an outstanding
02:07physical.
02:08And she just had such presence and such an athletic move to her that she really picked
02:12up momentum the longer people had to look at her.
02:17Going to September, there are 33 that are going to be for sale.
02:20I think it's an outstanding group representing a lot of top breeders.
02:26We have hip 892 going to Keeneland September, book two, session four.
02:32And it's an Oscar Performance Colt out of a mare named Sounds of the City, who's a half
02:36brother to Venetian Harbor.
02:39He's a really nice medium size and an unbelievable mover.
02:42You can see the Oscar Performance in him, but you can actually also see the mare too
02:47and the half sister, Venetian Harbor.
02:48They all kind of come together and more than anything, he just looks really racy.
02:54But his walk is just smooth and powerful at the same time.
03:00We have hip 801, an Oscar Performance filly out of Maya Princess.
03:04This filly in particular has always had a tremendous amount of presence about her.
03:09You'll notice how fluid she is as she moves.
03:11She's nice and correct.
03:13She's light on her feet and she's always willing.
03:17I can't say enough the support the shareholders have given the stallion to really give them
03:21every chance to be successful.
03:24I think that the investment that America is making in turf racing attracts buyers to looking
03:30at him.
03:31I think the market is starting to adjust to looking for turf horses and wanting them.
03:37Oscar Performance is a great opportunity to take advantage of the shift into turf racing.
