00:00And you thought having sand in your boots was bad. Here's a look at McFarlane
00:04Toys DC Multiverse DC Rebirth, Clayface, Batman and Batwoman.
00:30This multi pack includes three iconic characters, the shape-shifting villain
00:35Clayface, the fierce hero Batwoman and the ever-determined Batman, all portrayed
00:39in their distinctive designs from the Rebirth comics. Just before things in
00:43this review start to take shape, let's take the tape measure though and see how
00:46tall the DC Rebirth Batman, Clayface and Batwoman actually stands. A set that I've
00:51sat on for a while, not actually having it in part of my collection, but I wasn't
00:55really sure if I want to even spend the money considering that these are
00:57essentially just recolors of figures we've already gotten before. Sure enough
01:01though, Amazon, as they always seem to have been lately, marked down the price of
01:04this down to $57 and $57 for all three figures, I think that was an absolute
01:08stale. Now let's go ahead and take the tape measure. Now Batman and Clayface are
01:13figures we've both gotten before. Batwoman, not really too sure of. I
01:17thought she was gonna be using a mold of another figure and then when I kind of
01:20compared her with those figures, it sure enough it wasn't the case at all. But at
01:23least for though Batman, we're gonna start with things measuring with him
01:26first. Batman is gonna be at six and three-quarters of an inch in height,
01:29translating though to a figure that's 16 and a half centimeters tall.
01:33Batwoman's about the same, so I'm probably not gonna I'm gonna skip over
01:36the measuring of her, but we're gonna jump though to Clayface, who clearly is
01:40the biggest of the three. He is in fact actually, if we flip it around first
01:43inches, eight and eight three-quarters of an inch in height, or about 21 and a
01:48half centimeters tall. As for comparing, let's start with the big boy first. We're
01:53gonna just move over Batwoman here for a second, actually we're just gonna put her
01:55down here for a second. I'm gonna slide over Clayface, so this is the one that
01:59we got from the three-pack obviously. This is the original Clayface. Now right
02:03away, one thing that's ever apparent is the fact that they're clearly using the
02:06same mold, but the paint is so much brighter here on the three-pack release.
02:10Again, the head sculpts gonna be exactly the same. Don't worry, don't worry, we're
02:13gonna kind of cover off all the bases when it comes down to him individually.
02:16And then as for Batman, now this is a recolor though of the original DC
02:20Rebirth Batman. I'm just gonna put him right over here. We did also essentially
02:24get that same mold again, although it was a different head sculpt. He was part
02:27of the McFarlane toys digital release, and yes, I've already looked at reviews
02:31of those as well. Still though again, like Batwoman seems to be the odd woman out
02:35this time. Again, like while I was looking at the body, I'm sure like the torso, the
02:39arms, and the legs have probably been borrowed over from other bodies before,
02:42but I can't quite pinpoint exactly which figure she's actually copying things
02:45from. Speaking of copying things from, I'm sure we've also copied over some of
02:49these accessories also as well. Batman and Batwoman both come included with
02:53both grapple lines. I would imagine this probably being Batman's, this behind
02:57him it probably being belonging to Batwoman. They're only cast here in black
03:01plastic, so unfortunately though none of the budget went into actually painting
03:04any like the rope or the hook for that matter. These can be attached into inside
03:09of the hands. Funny though enough is that Batwoman's hand is on this side to
03:12grip this, and then Batman's will be on the adjacent side to hold his grapple
03:16line. What's also rather interesting though is that they also come included
03:19with batarangs. Not that that's the interesting part, but I'm sure already
03:22you can see what was the problem with the coloring of this. If you look at
03:26Batman's batarang for example, it starts somewhat normal with gold on this side,
03:30and then for reasons unknown it goes progressively into a darker finish on
03:35this side. It's almost like if something had been sitting inside the tray and
03:38they were going over and painting other pieces, and then unfortunately not
03:42realizing that they inadvertently sprayed some of the black paint on top
03:46of this side too. It maybe isn't as obvious though with Batman's. It's
03:49certainly a lot more obvious with I'm guessing the Batwoman's batarang. You can
03:53see though it looks like something Clayface or Two-Face would belong to
03:57because again like half of this is all black. The other half here is gold. See if
04:01I can actually hold it without dropping it. There you go. Doesn't it kind of just look
04:06like somebody was spraying the one side or maybe spraying stuff over off to the
04:10side here and not realizing that some of the spray was ending up over on the
04:13accessories here? Strange. I mean it kind of even looks like it's burnt, but I don't
04:18think it's burnt. It's probably just again like paint problems. Either way
04:21though again like the accessories, if you're looking at Batman alone, he only
04:24has one gripping hand on this side of his body. So right away that tells you
04:28which side is going to be holding the accessories. So of course you can take
04:31the bat line and put that into his hand or you can also take the batarang and
04:37again the batarang, as burnt as it may look, you can go ahead and fit that
04:41into his hand as well. Let's move that off to the side. As for the Batman, we've
04:46already looked at the fact and established that this is essentially
04:49just the rebirth Batman. Like if you look in copy to copy and just color changes,
04:52this would be the closest one to borrow things from. Same body, same head sculpt
04:57clearly. Then the only difference then, if I can actually hold these guys, when we
05:01did get the McFarlane toys digital release, while it was using though the
05:05same body, they gave him a brand new head sculpt. In fact I may have even
05:08mentioned in his review that he was using the same head sculpt. That would be
05:11incorrect information. I provided incorrect information. Sorry for that. But
05:17let's go like to like, apples to apples, bats to bats. Yeah again, like the head
05:21sculpt is the same though. But I will say though, like the coloring that they
05:24gave for Batman's face is a whole lot nicer. The original Batman was fine. I
05:29mean like I still like the coloring for his costume, but he was a little more
05:32paler though in complexion. The new Batman though, while still using the same
05:36mold, I do think like the paint is a handle a lot nicer here, especially
05:39around his lips. If you though prefer the coloring of the darker gray, the
05:44lighter gray may be a little jarring to you. I think the gray works really well.
05:47I don't know if I would say it still is a better use of this mold. I like the
05:51darker gray to be honest, especially the outline of the bat emblem. The yellow
05:54works I think a little bit better with the darker gray. That's just personal
05:57print opinion. Again the utility belts are exactly the same. The gauntlets the
06:01same and also even like the cape. If you look at the back of the cape, I mean
06:05short of maybe that one is a little shinier than the other. I mean I would be
06:08hard-pressed to see if there's anything different between the two molds. The
06:12purple also works really well on the interior of the cape here too. I think
06:16it's just a really nice looking mold. I've never really had any issues at all
06:19really with the Rebirth Batman. I just like the color scheme working a little
06:22bit better here in this figure. Like things seem to pop a lot more on him
06:25even though I do like the darker gray on the original release of him. Again when
06:29you got down below here, you've got the bat logos here for his kneecaps. That's a
06:33fun little touch, especially if he's kneecapping some guy. I imagine that
06:36would probably just go and hit them right in the face. Ouch! That would hurt.
06:39Sculpting on the boots are exactly the same as well and he's going to retain
06:42all the same levels of posability, which is that's going to rotate on a ball
06:46joint. It allows the head to rotate all the way around. Heads going to look up.
06:49Whoops! Heads going to look up. Heads going to look down. And yes you can move it
06:53back and forth as well. The upper torso in fact is going to be on a ball joint.
06:57The lower abdomen area is also on a ball joint. The arms go forward and back. I
07:02mean you would be normally able to rotate this all the way around but the
07:06pesky cape seems just to get in the way of things. This guy can also go in a T
07:10pose so you can get a 90 degree angle bend on the arms. He has a swivel there at
07:13the bicep. A double hinge on the elbow. Yes! And the hands rotate all the way
07:17around. Batman's legs split the same. Of course he's got the ratcheted joints
07:22inside the thighs. Do we ever need to get that close to Batman's groin? The answer
07:25is yes. Yes we do. Forward and back on the legs there's a swivel of course on the
07:30top of the thigh. Double hinge on the knee. No articulation here for the boots,
07:33sad to say. He does have ankle articulation. He does also have ankle
07:36rockers and would you believe the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
07:40So yes same Batman essentially though just with some cosmetic changes. Many
07:45would still prefer to like go with the darker gray. I do really think the dark
07:48gray is probably the best use of this mold but the lighter gray does things
07:51pretty good as well. Still don't understand though why his accessories
07:55look as dark as they do and only really on one side of his body. One side of it
07:59as well. So there's Batman. I'm just gonna get him to stand here. Moving
08:04things on to Batwoman which again is more of the mystery than anything else.
08:07Which is funny I say that because there was the animated movie Mystery of the
08:10Batwoman. While she is a mystery certainly of what mold they've used, I
08:14think the head sculpt is okay. She is probably the most unique figure of this
08:18set. I don't think we've gotten really in fact any Batwoman figures have we? I
08:22know we've got certainly lots of Batgirls. And speaking of Batgirls, like
08:26looking at this mold I thought first of all I was looking at a Batwoman mold or
08:29Batgirl mold. The cape is one of the things that was kind of the giveaway as
08:34well as a utility belt. Yet I've gone and looked at the Three Jokers Batgirl.
08:37It's not that. I've also looked at the Cassandra Cain Batgirl. No no it's not
08:41that either. No none that I can see. Even the build of figure, the build of
08:45Batmobile Batwoman, Batgirl doesn't seem to borrow any of the accessories. Maybe
08:50it borrows some of the molds. Like maybe I'm sure the legs have been used. The
08:52arms have been used. The utility belt does seem though different. Clearly
08:56though the head is completely different as well. She's a little on the pale side
09:00but I do think like the Batwoman head sculpt is really good. Unfortunately
09:03though with the way that they've sculpted the hair it's a little on the
09:05brighter side but it does mean that there's gonna be more limitations when
09:08it comes to rotating their head back and forth. We'll talk more about that in a
09:11moment. Soft good cape. So we're not using the
09:13fabric capes just yet. That's gonna be coming a little bit later. If I was to
09:17time jump into a time machine I would be telling myself back then when the set
09:21first came out, don't worry, these guys are gonna eventually be
09:24released in fabric capes. But I guess I'm kind of in the present time. It doesn't
09:28really matter does it? I keep getting confused with time jumping. Again like
09:32the colors for the red work really well. I mean they're kind of more of like a
09:34ketchup red. Very bright orangish red. They probably could have just toned that
09:39down just a little bit. It made it a little bit more of a darker red. But I
09:42think the colors overall are pretty good on Batwoman here. The sculpting down
09:46below here again. I just feel like I'm looking at something I've seen before
09:49and I'm drawn in absolute blank. Even like Huntress. I thought oh maybe they're
09:52using some of the elements from Huntress. Maybe again like some of the arms. Maybe
09:56some of the leg elements. But there's a lot of I'm guessing new tooling that's
09:59went into this figure. The articulation though is pretty much gonna be the same
10:03as most Batwomen though. Batgirls and Batwomen alike will have still a head
10:07swivel. Although you're gonna be a little bit more again limited because the way
10:10they've sculpted the hair. It flows to the side which does look pretty but
10:13unfortunately it's gonna limit a lot of what you can really do with the head
10:16sculpts. As for the arms again you still got that T pose. The arms rotate
10:20realistically all the way around. Again you got yourself a swivel in the bicep.
10:24Double hinge on the elbow. And the hands again yeah rotate all the way around. I
10:28know you were following along with me. Somebody's checking off their list. Okay
10:30torso you're gonna go next. Waist right. Waist ball joint. Yeah yeah you're right.
10:34Upper torso ball joint. Lower abdomen ball joint. Legs again split on ratcheted
10:40joints. You can take the legs and move them forward. Yeah move them back. And
10:43you're gonna have a little bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh. Not
10:46much. I don't want to really commit to the idea of saying that this is more of
10:49a ball joint or something that is intended as a swiveling point to the leg.
10:53It's just the way it works. It's the way it's been assembled. You get a little bit
10:57of a wiggle. Just a little bit of a wiggle. The legs don't have any swivel
11:01cut. I actually thought there would be a little cut right there but you can't
11:03turn anything going on there for the legs. She does still manage to pull off a
11:06double hinge in the knee. No articulation again for the boots. Ankle articulation
11:10yes. And if you're checking off your checklist would you have an ankle rocker?
11:13Yeah you would have an ankle rocker. Bingo! And of course you got yourself the
11:17toe articulation as well. Get a good gander at the bottoms of her feet. Oh all
11:21in all though one thing is also you probably have already noticed so far and
11:24I didn't leave these off at all. None of this set by the way does come
11:27include display stands or trading cards for that matter. Normally when we get a
11:31two-pack how often do we get ourselves a three-pack? But even then you would get
11:36usually like a display stand. Two of them probably for each of the characters or
11:39obviously one of them for each of the characters. And you get a trading
11:42card. None of that none of that get actually included with a set at all. So
11:47let's go ahead and move Batwoman out of the way. We'll move Batman out of the way.
11:49I think it's safe to say we've covered off the territory for that right? Right?
11:53Okay so let's slide over Clayface once again. We'll bring back in the original
11:58Clayface and I will say that this is one thing that really is probably the one
12:01nicest aspects of this set is the fact we get a much colorful looking Clayface.
12:07The bodies are as you probably can already see exactly the same to one
12:11another. The only thing that they really have done is taking sort of a monotone
12:14coloring of the brown that they with the initial release of him and splashed a
12:18lot more color on this guy. The browns basically if you're looking at kind of
12:23the basics of his body and in fact probably the easiest way to look at this
12:26if you look at the back of his body it seems to be the one place where
12:29unfortunately no paint has found its way to. Even if you look at the back of
12:33this guy you can see like he's got a much darker grayish brown. This guy gets
12:36a little bit more of a chocolate brown but unfortunately though what's so left
12:40off on the back of his body he gets a lot more of it though certainly when
12:43you're looking at from the front. The eyes and head sculpt for that matter are
12:47gonna be the exact same so again there's there's the original one. Eyes would have
12:51been what I'm guessing like a beige beige for the eyes beige for teeth. The
12:55thing that I like about the new Clayface though is that they've changed the color
12:58so the teeth aren't the same color as his eyes so his eyes now are nice bright
13:02yellowish orange. The teeth are still kind of gnarly. He's got some summer teeth
13:06some are there some are not but again like I do like the fact that they've
13:10actually painted the teeth a different color than the rest of his eyes. The mouth
13:13does open the exact same way. Oh hello! So you can see how gnarly he looks on the
13:18inside of his mouth. Yeah obviously the original Clayface would have also had
13:20that as well. Bodies are the same. Sculpting is the same but again there's
13:26a lot more opportunity I feel for some of the cooler little finer features of
13:29this figure that really stand out when you add a secondary wash to it.
13:32Especially when you add a paint that's a different contrast to the darker brown
13:35that you already had on his body. So things like his faces for example. See
13:39all the cool faces he's got sculpted on shoulders. He's got that on the front of
13:42his body there as well. I mean spot how many faces you can find on Clayface's
13:47body. We don't need to turn that into a game at all but he's got that all
13:50basically on the front of his body this nice lighter brown. It's not everywhere
13:54unfortunately so again like unfortunately it's missed here on the
13:56under like his armpit area that's I wouldn't probably recommend getting that
13:59close to the Clayface's armpit and it certainly is unfortunately overlooked
14:03altogether on the back of his body but where he has at least he's got on his
14:07lower legs he's certainly got a lot more of it there on the front of his
14:09body the original Clayface if I just put this guy down here for a second he was
14:14construction wise very hollow figure hollow in the torso knock knock who's
14:18there and again like certainly when it comes to his construction of his arms
14:21just close that mouth for a second but I came to his arms you really did feel
14:25like like he stayed together well enough but you can definitely feel like when
14:29you're rotating arms around and stuff there's a lot more of an echo when it's
14:32coming from the cavity of his body unfortunately though they haven't
14:35anything at all to the Clayface the new one still has that in fact I actually
14:39noticed though with his arms not that they're looser but I feel like when I'm
14:43moving them around it reminds me ever more apparently that the figure yeah
14:47does have a hollow body knock knock who's there I'm so again like when it
14:51comes to his articulation they are it seems like his arms are a little on the
14:54looser side I mean if I was to say bring his arms out give him what like the
14:58closest thing to a T pose that's that's kind of unsettling he holds it well
15:03enough like it's not the fact that his shoulders are so loose that his arms
15:06immediately drop but I do feel like there's a little bit of looseness
15:09starting to develop on the figure again for the articulation on this guy if
15:13you're familiar with this guy you'll be familiar with the opposability on this
15:16guy as well stop that so again like first head his
15:20head's not only gonna rotate forward and back there is a little bit and I say a
15:24little bit about that much movability with what you can actually get for the
15:28Clayface his head my guess is it's probably a post and then there's a ball
15:32joint on the end of it so that basically just is only going to give
15:36the figures posability in the sense that you can move the head forward and back
15:39or I should say back and forth very little though very little up and down
15:43still again like the arms do rotate all the way around you know that one thing
15:46that's interesting about Clayface though is not the fact that I have a harder
15:50time to rotate his arm I mean that hasn't changed at all but if you ever
15:52had collected and this is this is a stretch if you ever collected the
15:56original 80s and humanoid toys and you had yourself decompose decompose the
16:02plastic and the way that I move the figure and why am I waving my finger
16:05around so much the way that I move the figure around and and the hollowness
16:08hollowness I hear while I'm doing it reminds me of the original 80s decompose
16:14there you go but again like the arms rotate all the way around again you've
16:17got somewhat of a serviceable T pose now with the arms unfortunately though
16:22you're only gonna get a single hinge and if you blinked it you would have missed
16:25it that's as much as you can actually do with his arms so they hinge out about
16:29that far and they hinge in not a fully straight arm nor nearly would be a 90
16:34degree angle bend in the elbow the hands rotate they're also on hinge joints
16:38there's not much really that you can really do with the hands you can rotate
16:41them but I kind of feel like I'm I wanted to start separating a lobster
16:44here the hands again rotate back and forth but there's a lot of things kind
16:48of getting in the way of me actually being able to do that properly the
16:51upper torso is gonna be on what would you call a ball joint very very subtly
16:56a ball joint what's interesting though is the mid abdomen area his tummy tum
17:00tum is softer plastic you can squeeze it in if you want I don't know if that's
17:05gonna cause friction problems down the road that that's gonna start to split
17:08the plastic right here it hasn't certainly happened so far in this
17:12version of clay face let's knock on plastic that it's not gonna happen on
17:15this guy either the waist swivels but only just a little bit the legs split
17:19out on ratchet joints again take the legs yeah I'm moving forward and back a
17:23little bit of a swivel there hinge certainly in the knee but again not much
17:27you can do with it there's a swivel there at the lower leg and there's not
17:30really much again you can do with the feet the feet are basically just tree
17:33trunks sculpted into a continuation for the rest of the lower legs so again like
17:37clay face if you like maybe the mold and you miss the fact that you didn't have
17:41nearly enough color the new clay face does colors a little bit better the
17:45hollowness of his body is still ever very apparent I still don't really love
17:49the head sculpt on these I mean a lot of times again like while he does a
17:52possibility in his mouth most of the time when I displayed this guy I usually
17:56had the mouth closed or as close to closed as I could get this just because
18:00I like the closer the smaller face just a little bit more again for this set I
18:04guess the most unique figure in this release is probably the Batwoman the
18:08Batman again we've already gotten before but I do like the lighter colors of the
18:12gray it works really well for this particular mold and the fact we can't
18:16overlook the fact that this set was selling and still continues to sell at
18:19the time of the hitting the record $57 $57 initially it was probably like into
18:24the mid 60s so it wasn't an overly expensive set either but of course
18:28Amazon lately has been kind of nudging me hey you want to get this set I'm like
18:32I don't know I already got the clay face I already got the Batman do I really
18:36need a bat woman and then like I'm Amazon a little firmer with their
18:39requests no no I think you should really get this far be it for me to argue with
18:44Amazon in the end though I did get this set I mean you know it still means I'm
18:49gonna have myself ultimately another clay face that you know for the first
18:51time I already had a clay face anyways in my collection do I really need
18:54another one the answer apparently to that is yes yes I do the colors for clay
18:58face I like the brighter colors made made available a little bit more to this
19:02mold all in all though a set that cost me set me back around just one under $60
19:07works out to be essentially like $20 a figure clay face I don't know what you
19:11would go what would clay face have originally sold on his own in the end
19:15though it was enough of a nudge that I needed in the right direction to finally
19:18pick up the set a little late on getting the review obviously out for
19:21this because this came out a couple maybe like last year last year but I
19:25still think it was well worth it it only really needed just to have a markdown
19:29price to convince me to add this to my shopping cart now I'm a big fan of clay
19:34face duh I'm sure longtime viewers will already know that I'm a big fan of mud
19:38head here well it's not one of the best clay faces around it certainly isn't
19:42gonna topple the one of the best clay face and one of my favorite figures of
19:45all time the DC superheroes release of him he's big and that's all that really
19:49really need for a clay face with the hopes though that down the road McFarland
19:52will release another version of him he's a little on the more hollow side but
19:56that still is was facing the issues with the original release of clay face when
19:59he was sold separately the thing that's going for him at least is a lot more
20:02packed color that if you like the Batman animated series release for example of
20:06him the colors I think are matching closer to that unfortunately though
20:10while he was going through the assembly line and being painted properly none of
20:13the paint got afforded to the back of his body so he only really looks good
20:17from the front and he doesn't really look as show worthy on the back the
20:20articulated mouth is a nice touch although most of the time I just display
20:23clay face with the mouth closed personally then of course you got
20:26yourself Batman now Batman's good if you missed your chance to get the DC
20:29rebirth release of him and the colors aren't that different really while the
20:33first one we released in more of a darker gray the new Batman gets traded
20:36to a lighter gray one thing though I didn't unfortunately mention in this
20:39review is the way they have attached the cape the cape though should be
20:42continuation really of his cowl but there's a few little spaces between the
20:46cape you may even be able to see right now there's a space between his cape and
20:49his body that looks jarring I might even go in there and just try to touch that
20:53up with a little bit of paint and of course the unique figure to this set is
20:56Batwoman unique at the time at least doing this review it's not to say that
21:00I'm sure down the road Tawna's team will not release Batwoman on her own but if
21:03you are interested in the character and would like to add her to your shelf this
21:07is the only set to do that right now accessory wise the both characters of
21:11Batman and Batwoman come in clear with their grapple lines and really weirdly
21:14painted batarangs it's almost like again it was sitting on the side table when
21:19somebody else was painting something else and while they were painting the
21:22thing that was supposed to be black inadvertently some of that may have
21:27sprayed unfortunately onto the batarangs no harm no foul I mean I'm probably not
21:31gonna be displaying the figures with them anyways in the end though I've got
21:34myself a nice-looking Batman a first time I can now say I've got a Batwoman
21:38on my shelf and I got a clay face that wasn't really bad in the first place but
21:42he's got some just better paint applied to him it seems like just as a whole
21:45this sets got a lot more afforded paint some of the areas too though that I'd
21:49even ask for like the batarangs as it as it goes right now at the time of doing
21:54this video this set is still selling on Amazon with the markdown price of $57 so
