00:00be careful of the red queen this flyer sets fires
00:04here's a look at the brand new mcfarland toys house of the dragons
00:07melees
00:22melee's nicknamed the red queen is the she dragon ridden by princess rainy's
00:26targaryen covered in scarlet scale she has accents
00:29and bright copper it is her unique coloring for which she received her
00:32nickname in her youth she is said to have outpaced
00:34even caraxes and vagar she may be known as one of the fastest
00:38dragons to fly over westeros but we're not going to speed through
00:41this review we want to get down to the details of how good this dragon actually
00:44looks first though i'd like to thank the
00:46folks over at mcfarland toys that did provide this sample of the house of the
00:49dragon melees that we can have a look at in this
00:51review some assembly though is required for the dragon
00:54more importantly is the fact that you have to attach her onto the display base
00:56and i guess more even more important is you have to also give her some wings
01:00the wings i will say is one thing it's a little bit more difficult
01:03and even though i've attached them as best i can there's still some issues
01:07with them we're going to talk about that more in a moment
01:09first though let's grab that trusty tape measure and see how tall this actually
01:12is factoring in those problematic wings
01:15melee's is in fact actually seven and a half inches in height
01:18or roughly about 19 centimeters tall i guess the first thing that we'll have a
01:22look at is that melee's does come in clear with a pretty cool looking card
01:25down below of course you've also got the stamp for house of targaryen
01:29on though the back of it though we've got ourselves a nice little read up
01:32you can pause you you can certainly read it for yourself but i did actually
01:35already beat you to it i read it at the beginning of this review
01:38i actually generally like to keep these cards in my sheep protectors along with
01:41my dc multiverse i mean granted though i don't actually
01:43put them with my dc multiverse cards i have a separate little section though
01:47where i keep all my cards for my dragons and this one's going to go along with
01:49that let's move that all off to the side
01:52getting though a closer look at melee's as i already mentioned there is a
01:55little bit of assembly that's required it goes sort of with the territory when
01:58you start building these dragons first of all you get yourself the
02:00main base the base itself maybe what i'll do is i'll take the
02:04can i actually take the dragon off i'm just going to see if i can just get her
02:07now you know what maybe i might just leave it
02:08i just actually wanted to show you guys what the landscape looked like
02:12it's a little harder now that i've obviously got the feet all pegged in
02:14place the feet actually plug in right here and
02:17right here on the back and really once they're securely in place
02:20very little of a chance you'll have to actually try to remove these i thought
02:23i could do it i'm just going to leave it because i
02:25don't want to certainly break the peg but again like the landscape i'm sure
02:28we've seen before i mean it's colored just a little bit different
02:31the dark char of the gray works really quite well with the backdrop or the
02:34color choice that they chose here for melees
02:36of course here on feature on the front we've got game of thrones house of the
02:39dragon melees so the other assembly like i already
02:42mentioned though is that you have to attach the wings
02:44now the wings normally would have attached in other drags in two places
02:48you've got the main connecting point here on the front and then usually a
02:51little bit further down from the wing there's also
02:53another secondary peg that plugs into the main body
02:56with though the case of melees you actually have to plug it in in three
02:59places and the third place is the hardest place
03:02you have these little tab pieces right here
03:05you got one on also either side and in theory they're supposed to slot in these
03:09pegs right here i can't quite get the angle and every
03:12time i try to pop in one either i can't get this in all the way
03:16or it ends up popping the other side off i've actually done a pretty good enough
03:20job of pegging this all in but you can still see there's a little
03:23bit of a gap in between what i might just end up doing is seeing
03:27if i can heat this up a little bit i'm not going to start dismantling anything
03:30here for the dragon but if i can at least heat it enough
03:33see if i can soften up this area of this so that when the peg goes in place
03:37it should be able to fit in better as you can see with just the amount of
03:41force and pressure i'm doing right now i can't seem to get those last
03:45pegs those little slots even like now see you can see this one's actually
03:48starting to come loose as well it's the only thing that's a little bit
03:51of a problem when it comes to putting everything together for melee is once
03:54though you succeed in doing that it's a nice looking dragon there is as
03:58well one thing i didn't notice about the
04:00tail is the tail is a separate piece but the tail will always drop down like
04:04this initially thinking though that there
04:06was going to be a little bit of posability here you can't seem to rotate
04:09it at all so a lot of times usually what i'll just do is i'll take the tail
04:13just sort of bring it around like this and i'll just drape it down on the rock
04:16face just so that stays out of the way because if not for that
04:19this rubbery tail always tends to just kind of lean off
04:22and just gets in the way i've noticed i mean we spent so much time looking at
04:25the back of the dragon i feel like perhaps maybe we should be looking at
04:28the front of the dragon you all agree okay that's good so let's
04:31spin this around and getting a closer look at melee's face
04:34melee has a very generally small dragon face
04:37i mean one of the things though about the house of the dragon dragons is that
04:40they generally tend to have very small faces very small heads long
04:44necks very long lean bodies and giant wings um one thing i really
04:49though like is the color choice first of all
04:51known really as the red queen more specifically for her color choice the
04:54color palettes the colors that they've used here for
04:57the dragon look very close to the way they are in the show
05:00i feel like maybe in the show maybe she's a little bit darker than this
05:03but i think though the head sculpt is stupendous but i say just stupendous
05:08you can see the way they've sculpted top of the teeth the bottom of the teeth
05:10though are a little bit longer in length you can also see that inside the
05:14mouth not only the inside of the mouth is all purple but the tongue is that as
05:18well the eyes are a little harder to pull off
05:20i'm hoping that the camera i'll only know when the video is
05:23finished how good those cameras how good the camera actually was able to pick up
05:26the eyes but the eyes are very small can you see
05:29them very nicely painted though as small as
05:32they may be she's got all these spikes adorning the
05:35crown of her head not to mention all these other spikes
05:38that run up the entire body of her well the whole
05:41back side of her belly body on the bottom though
05:44there is no spikes whatsoever she's a little bit smoother here but i mean
05:48there's no attention that's been left off for details
05:50you can see like all nice little wrinkles that they've added in there
05:53even like tiny little scales they put on the back of her hind legs are all there
05:57as well something else where i really like about
05:59melee's is that they've gone in airbrushed all this lighter beige on
06:02the inside you can see the spine as well for each of the individual i don't know
06:05if those these would be the fingerlings though of the wings i'm sure there's
06:08probably a proper name given to them but you can see the way that they sort
06:12of stand out especially when they start airbrushing the areas around it
06:16it's a really interesting looking dragon a very lean looking dragon again but it
06:19works really quite well but one other thing too is with these
06:22spikes being out sticking out like this when i was starting to put the wings in
06:26i've poked myself i don't know how many times
06:28because again you're trying to get as much leverage going when you're trying
06:31to fit these in place especially like the pegs here in the
06:34front so when i was trying to force them into the main body of her
06:37i kept pricking myself just because these long little spikes that stick out
06:40from her body but it's such a beautiful looking dragon
06:44i think it's posed quite well too i did had i mentioned this when we had a
06:48look at one of the other was i think it was another house of the
06:50dragon dragons that i commented that maybe like having a form like this would
06:54have worked a little bit better maybe if the wings were wide out like this
06:57but you know again like looking at the way they've designed here melees i think
07:00that the shape and specifically the pose that they've
07:03put the dragon works quite well for the character in the show
07:06again the color is really good on this one the only one thing i will say again
07:09about melees though is while she's a beautiful dragon
07:11putting her together may have been a little bit more of a problem for me
07:15not as much for the front of the wings the wings were fine from the front other
07:18than i just obviously i just poked myself
07:20but it was the bigger issue really is on the back still you can see right now
07:24i mean with the what little time we've actually had to talk about her
07:27the little pegs on the back have already detached i mean i don't want to use the
07:31bad term i don't want to use the g word glue glue glue is the g word i don't
07:35want to use glue really is the way to solve this problem but i feel like i
07:39might even just have to do this either that first what i might just end
07:42up doing is heating this up with a hairdryer i'll try the hairdryer trick
07:45first i don't want to go right directly to the solving of the problems with the
07:48glue but if i can't get the the peg or the slot
07:51more so if i can't get that be soft enough where i can get these properly
07:55attached yeah i might just end up having to use a
07:57little bit of glue it's the again the only one problem when i came to
08:00assembling the dragon but when you do eventually assemble melee the red queen
08:04looks fantastic especially on the shelf if you've already been collecting the
08:07other dragons that mcfarlane and his team have been releasing
08:09i'd say short of the assembly of getting everything from melees together
08:13i'm really generally quite happy with how the dragon looks the low profile of
08:17having her closer to the base works really quite well for the way that the
08:20character is in the actual series and again while i'm sure they've used
08:23this base with many releases of mcfarlane toy dragons
08:27having though the darker color like this works really well with the red queen
08:30considering the color that they gave her all these nice little spikes although i
08:34probably could have spent a little bit more time showing you guys all the
08:36details on all the spikes but each one of them very carefully
08:40painted there are a few little areas grant i mean they can't really go very
08:43well go in and paint every single spike a full color
08:46but i think they've done a nice enough job it's so disappointing though just
08:49looking at the back of the body and seeing how easily those wings
08:53detach if you have picked up melees for yourself
08:56let me know if you've had similar issues i mean i didn't solve the problem first
09:00by heating it i mean maybe in hindsight i probably should have maybe heated it
09:03first before trying to attach the wings i've
09:06never had problems generally in the past i mean usually with the wings
09:09if they leave a little space in between the wing and the main body
09:12that goes with the territory of these dragons but though for melees
09:16because she has to attach in three different places the first two attached
09:19easy enough although again i can probably see on the side of the shoulder
09:22i could have pushed it in a little bit more
09:24but it's the back of the wings that little slot piece
09:27i just wonder though instead of using a slot plastic
09:30have they maybe used a peg like a not like a ball joint
09:34but like a peg joint where it would have fit into a hole would it probably more
09:38been more securely attached i mean it's it's hard to really say
09:41because we didn't get a peg in this case we've got ourselves a slot but i find
09:45though the slot just doesn't fit properly it's almost as
09:48if you have to get it in on a different angle than the other pegs
09:51you sort of have to kind of fold the wing down a little bit and slide it in
09:55from the side either way i'm hoping to finally fix
09:58this issue because i don't want to have the dragon
10:00fitting on sitting on the shelf with the part of the wing on the back of
10:03the body hanging out like this i'll fix it and when i eventually do
10:07putting it on the shelf it's going to be a nice looking dragon with all the ones
10:10that we've gotten so far what do you guys though think of melees
10:13let me know down below in the comment section
10:15have you also again had any issues attaching the wings let me know what you
10:18think also as again i'd like to thank the
10:20folks over at mcfarland toys that did provide this sample of the house of the
10:23dragon melees that we had the chance to have a look at this review
10:26by the way though if you guys did want to go back and have a look at the other
10:28dragons that i've looked at from mcfarland and his team
10:31at their at the very end of this video there will be as well a playlist feel
10:34free to give that a watch if you have a little bit of time on your hands or
10:37dragon wings if in the meantime you guys did enjoy this video do it a solid throw
10:40it a like you guys want to stick around for more so
10:43i hope so hit that subscribe turn on that bell and of course come back
10:46as always thanks for watching see you guys next time
