00:00I think the only time you could tell by his face is that it's crime time.
00:03Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse McFarlane Collector's Edition
00:07Claw King.
00:22The Claw King was considered to be a third-tier villain by the authorities
00:26thanks to his lack of superpowers and his weird fixation with clocks. Born the
00:30aptly named William Tockman, the Claw King commenced his criminal career after
00:34doctors incorrectly diagnosed that he'd been struck down by a fatal disease and
00:38only had a short time to live. Determined to make every second of the rest of his
00:41life count, he executed a string of clock themed robberies as the Claw King.
00:45Tockman's overall goal was to steal enough money so his disabled sister would
00:49be well cared for after his death. When it comes to robberies, the Claw King's
00:53really hands-on, both hour and minute. Just before of course we get a closer
00:57look at the McFarlane Collector's Edition Claw King, let's take the tape measure.
01:00Yeah, let's see how tall the figure stands. There's two versions of Claw King
01:03also. The one that you're seeing right now with the garishly stupid looking
01:06outfit, which I like actually more than the other one. There's also as well a
01:09platinum edition that's gonna have a green outfit, green top, blue pants, and a
01:13slightly larger head. The one that also has the larger head seems to also have a
01:17goatee. This one only just has a straight mustache. That could probably be his
01:20mouth. Claw King is though gonna stand at 7 inches in height, where the Master
01:24of Time is about 17 and a half or 18 centimeters tall.
01:28Tockman's been known to tussle with both Green Arrow and Batman, but because I
01:32grew up watching Batman the Animated Series, and really my first introduction
01:36to the criminal, I'm gonna be most likely displaying this guy as the villain of
01:39the Caped Crusader. So here's what he looks like with the Nightfall release of
01:42him, and while maybe we're at it, let's bring in some other Batman villains.
01:45Here's what he looks like with the Infinite Frontier Joker. Here's also what
01:48he looks like with Mr. Zazz. Gonna have to get the chance to bring in Mr. Zazz.
01:51And here's also what he looks like with Oswald Cobblepot, or better known as the
01:55Penguin. Clocking in with five accessories. First, the figure does come
01:58included with a display stand. Some additional frills get awarded here
02:01Claw King, because instead of having the traditional black DC logo, he gets
02:05treated to silver instead. There's the peg that obviously in the far corner that
02:09can plug into either one of Claw King's boots. You can't really plug in both. You
02:12only have to choose one. Let's move that off to the side. Speaking of stands, the figure
02:15also comes included with a podium one that houses the card. Let's just take the
02:19card off right now. A very similar style of costume. You can see there's Claw King,
02:23the source material. Here's Claw King the figure. On the side, you can see it says
02:26McFarlane Collector Edition. Claw King off to the far corner. Very retro looking
02:30outfit. The only thing I will say though about Claw King is I do wish that they
02:34had used a thinner body. He's very overly muscular. He sort of has that same
02:38problem I found that Riddler did. Just too big of a body for too lean of a
02:42character. Anyways, really nice looking image though of Claw King. Also on the
02:46back there as well, his real name is William Talkman. You know, again, I would
02:50like if they have concluded, for example, his first appearance because there's made
02:53no mention of that at all. His first appearance actually is World Finest
02:57number 111 way back in August 1960. But there's nothing there listing that. I
03:02have to tell that to you guys myself. There's of course a paragraph read that
03:05gives at least a very good backstory all about William Talkman and why he becomes
03:09the Claw King. Of course, this will go on to the podium and usually when it comes
03:13to these, I'd like to display them with the actual standees. Not to put them in
03:17the trading card sheets. Let's move this off to the side for right now. The figure
03:21also comes included with two slashing swords. I guess that would be
03:25the equivalent of that. These could also be poking. He comes with obviously the
03:28minute hand, the hour hand slightly shorter. Of course, right now I could tell
03:32you guys that's about what? 3.30? It's actually not even 3.30. It's closer to
03:36about 4 o'clock when I'm filming this review. Both of them are very similar in
03:40style. They look like they have ... I don't know if they've been molded in gold
03:43plastic rather than actually been painted, but they work the exact same way.
03:46You can see there's looplets on the end. These little rings latch around his
03:50hands. I will say though getting him around his hands are a little harder to
03:53do. The plastic for his hands is a very hard variety. So I find the easiest thing
03:58to really do is take the hand or take the weapon kind of put it down on an
04:02angle like this. So you're putting it down more close to his pinky and then
04:05just sort of push it up. A lot of times that usually is the thing that
04:09kind of gets it into his grip. So again he's got himself these ... I
04:13guess they would be really swords. I would really have this guy displayed
04:16with him because I think it's just a nice fun little accessory to include a
04:19character that's known for clocks. The one other thing that he also has too,
04:23talking about upgrades, the Clock King also comes included with a cloth cape.
04:27Now the cloth cape is a very similar matching color. It's maybe a
04:31little bit lighter than obviously the neon green paint that they went with, but
04:35it's still a really nice looking material that they've used. It's got a
04:37wire that runs down here and down here and between those two you can actually
04:43get some decent manipulation for the cape. So if you'd like to have the cape
04:45for example kind of blowing in the wind you can do that also as well. What is he
04:48doing? Let's bring his arms down. But I like that you can actually mold these.
04:52The more and more that I'm seeing these on these figure releases, the more I'm
04:56really warming up to the idea that figures moving forward should all go
04:59with fabric rather than plastic. Yes of course you still have like characters
05:02like the old Batmans for example that have still plastic capes, but like
05:06fabric capes seem to really be the way to go. I mean they're really keeping with
05:09the times that higher-end collectibles, action figures, especially superheroes,
05:13are all usually, you know, those higher-end figures are always usually
05:17using fabric capes. I like to see that McFarlane is following suit. Speaking of
05:21following suits, how's that for a segue? Clock King as you can see. Speaking of
05:25times, what time is that right now? It's about like quarter, almost quarter after
05:29five maybe. I mean some of the times obviously do change. The biggest time,
05:33probably the one that you'd be most concerned with, is the one that he's
05:35looking at you with. He's got a big giant clock face, literally a clock King
05:40looking at you. I really like the way they've done this. It looks like he
05:44kind of has these sinister eyebrows and he just looks silly. I love that though.
05:48And of course he's got a little line in the middle I guess that would be
05:50representing his mouth. Now the other version of Clock King has a larger head
05:54and it has a notable goatee. One thing I will say though about this character and
05:59something I did say earlier, I'm just gonna bring him in right now. This is the
06:02John Kent release Superman. I would have liked, considering again like Clock King's
06:07not a super-powered character, the idea that you'd be muscular like this I think
06:11kind of loses a little bit of the charm of the character. I actually would have
06:15gone more I think with the John Kent body. It's just a little leaner. It's a
06:18lot thinner and I think it would have worked really well with a character like
06:21Clock King. I mean again you can see how muscular his thighs are, how broad his
06:25body is, especially his upper torso. Just think of how much nicer I feel that
06:29that would have looked had they used the Jonathan Kent body instead. Something
06:33also too, and while I really like the head, I think it could have been a lot
06:36bigger. I mean the the Platinum Edition, which I know right now I'm probably
06:40eventually gonna get. I mean even though this is my favorite of the two designs,
06:43the other one is so cool and it's also Clock King. I'm such a sucker for Clock
06:47King. I think they probably also could have used the same sized head for this
06:51guy's release as they did with the other one because the other one does seem like
06:54it's a much bigger face. The head, the way they designed it actually kind of
06:58looks like he's scuba diving. Big giant mask, basically like a scuba mask over
07:03top of a regular mask. Of course a nicely printed clock face on the front.
07:08I love his little mean little eyebrows. He's so mad at you right now. Of course
07:13he's got tons and tons of clocks all over his body. They're only really on the
07:17front of his body. Obviously they would have saved some of the cost of not
07:20printing on the back. So what you're seeing, the show side of Clock King is
07:23the side that matters the most. He's got some also watches there on his arms.
07:27Obviously not to drive home the idea already that this guy knows a little
07:30something about time, they have to also include these watches. I think actually
07:34now that I look at it, now I was gonna say maybe the original image also has
07:38that, but it doesn't seem like he's also carrying around any Rolex watches. He's
07:42got a big giant clock there on the front of his belt. I mean there's clocks
07:44everywhere. If this is something that's been printed on the figure, I would feel
07:48like more of a budget went into this guy, especially for the fact he has a
07:50fabric cape. Especially for the fact he has so many images of clocks all over
07:54his body. The colors work quite well too. They're very similar to the classic look
07:57of Clock King. A much brighter blue, very much this neon green color. Although I
08:01think maybe in the card it looks a little bit more of a greenish green.
08:04Maybe not as much of a neon yellow like this. All in all though, it's a really
08:08neat looking figure. Could he have been maybe a little leaner? Yes. Could he have
08:11used maybe a little bit bigger of a head? These are all just little tiny things I
08:14would have changed the character, but the fact that we even are having this
08:18discussion of Clock King is a testament to the fact that McFarlane always goes
08:22for those deep cut characters. We're seeing a lot more of them I think in
08:25recent memories. In recent years we're getting a lot more of these
08:28classic looking characters and I say I welcome more of them. Stupid looking
08:32design characters like this with overly garish looking giant heads like this. We
08:36need more of these. We need more of these. Make it happen. For the articulation on
08:40Clock King, his head's gonna first of all be in a ball joint, so it allows the head
08:43to rotate all the way around. Head moves up. The head moves well about that
08:48high up and it moves about that low down. You can also rock the head slightly back
08:53and forth as well. Upper torso is gonna be on a ball joint, which you also
08:56believe as well the lower abdomen is also on a ball joint. Arms rotate all the
09:00way around. You can bring the arms out easily at 90 degrees. No problems there.
09:04Figure does have a swivel in his bicep, a double hinge on his elbow, and yes the
09:08Clock King does have a rotation all the way around on his wrists. For the legs
09:12they do split out. Now even though his trunks are a softer plastic,
09:16again they're pretty in line with the shape of the rest of his body. So it
09:20doesn't feel like he's got overly large trunks, but again like the legs do split
09:23out. You can bring the legs forward, bring them back. There's a swivel at the top
09:27of the thigh. Double hinge on the knee. No articulation for the boot part at least
09:31because it seems to be a continuation of the calf, but he does though definitely
09:34have an ankle rocker and an ankle pivot and he also does have the toe
09:38articulation as well. The only other thing I would also say as well for
09:41Clock King is that you can see the coloring of his pegs aren't quite
09:44jiving for the colors around them. Clearly this has been the molded
09:48plastic. Clearly everything around it has been the painted plastic. So there's a
09:51little bit of disruption for the color scheme here. It's pretty close but you
09:55maybe notice it a little bit more when it comes to his ankles. Other than that
09:59though I mean and maybe proportionally I would have loved if this guy could have
10:01had a larger head. Again we are having this discussion of Clock King and the
10:05figure looks fantastic. Other accessories I don't think needed be applied here to
10:10the character. The fact that he has for example the minute hand, the hour hand. I
10:13mean there's some good options available when it comes to displaying this guy. And
10:16speaking of other options available for displaying this guy, the fact that we are
10:19having a discussion. A wireframe fabric cape on these characters. Some good work
10:24here going for the folks at McFarland Toys. And you know again like going
10:27back to the card, the fact that we have a classic looking Clock King. Still
10:31untempted, twist my rubber arm to go back and get that platinum edition release.
10:34And obviously when I do we'll be doing this guy a service of bringing him back
10:38in frame. So obviously we'll be doing comparisons there. The classic look for
10:42me, the look that you're seeing right now as garish as it may be, is my favorite
10:45look for the Clock King of the two releases that we got from McFarland
10:48Toys. But leave it with me. Give me a little bit of time and of course we will
10:52be looking at that one in an upcoming review. So now that we got a Clock King
10:55figure, what are the chances that we're gonna get a Mr. Camera? Mr. Camera also
10:59was a villain for Batman. He wore a tuxedo, a red cape and I kid you not he
11:03had a camera for a head. A camera for a head. And as stupid as an idea as that
11:08may sound, from a tooling standpoint, it wouldn't take much at all for McFarland
11:12not just to dust off the Red Hood classic body, because it also had a
11:15tuxedo. It also had a cape. They'd only have to re-sculpt a brand new camera
11:19head. I might be the only one right now that's asking for a Mr. Camera figure.
11:24Back though to Clock King, as ridiculous as a costume as it may be for Mr. Camera,
11:29so similarly stupid it is for Clock King to literally be a bright blue character
11:34wearing bright green trunks and having Cameron clock faces all over his body.
11:39And yet for me it works because that's a classic look for a character you can
11:43never pull off in a modern film. You imagine a guy walking around on the city
11:47streets of Gotham City or in a Green Lantern Universe film for example
11:50looking like this. It would be preposterous and yet it works so well
11:54with a figure like this. Truth be told though, I think the figure body is still
11:58too big. I think it's very much like the same argument as Riddler. I mean
12:02obviously Riddler was based on sort of the DC classics design of Riddler where
12:06it was overly muscular. But like Riddler by nature should be a much leaner
12:10looking character. I think a John Kent body could have worked really well with
12:14a Clock King figure like this. Still keeping the same cloth cape in place and
12:18maybe making the face for his head just a little bit bigger. Just a little bit
12:22bigger. I know for a while I was kind of stuck with the idea that figures should
12:26really have plastic capes. Chalk a lot of that up just to my memories really of
12:30collecting the DC classics line of figures where all those characters back
12:34then had plastic capes. Now though that I've experienced how good fabric capes
12:38are, this is a trend I really want to see them moving forward with. If it's only
12:42just again something that's gonna be relegated to the McFarlane Collectors
12:45Edition and we can get classic characters like this, more fabric capes
12:48are gonna be welcomed by me. What do you guys don't think of Clock King? Too
12:52stupid of an idea for a character or is it something like this that you'd love
12:55to see them do more characters like this? Those deep-cut characters that
12:58would have only really worked really well in like the Silver Age of comics.
13:02Mr. Camera. We need to get a Mr. Camera figure. What do you guys don't think of
13:06Clock King? Let me know down below in the comment section. Have you guys picked up
13:08this one or the other Clock King that McFarlane and his team have
13:12released? If you guys also did enjoy this video, do it a solid. Throw it a like. You guys
13:15want to stick around for more? So I hope so. Hit that subscribe, turn on that Bell
13:19and of course the most important thing is that you're coming back. As always
13:22thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
