McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse The Dark Knight Returns Armored Batman Patina Edition
Transcript
00:00The bats had a battle and it got immortalized in bronze. Here's a look at
00:04the McFarlane toys DC multiverse the Dark Knight Returns armored Batman
00:08patina edition.
00:23As a child Bruce Wayne watched as his parents were brutally killed in Gotham
00:27City's crime alley. Traumatized by their deaths he devoted his life to becoming
00:31the world's greatest weapon against crime, the Batman. He's a master detective
00:35and an expert martial artist and his greatest weapon though is his mind.
00:39Batman has a plan for every occasion as well as high-tech weapons gadgets and
00:43vehicles to assist him in his relentless pursuit of justice. Now after 10 years of
00:48retirement Batman returns in an armored suit and ready for an epic battle to
00:52determine the fate of the earth. Batman is featured in an exclusive patina paint
00:57armor incredibly detailed seven inch scale figure based on the DC multiverse.
01:01Bruce and the metal suit that he wears seem to have one thing in common they're
01:05both starting to show their age. Just before of course we get a closer look at
01:08the McFarlane toys DC multiverse Batman the Dark Knight Returns armored Batman
01:11patina edition I'd like to thank if I can the folks over at McFarlane toys
01:15that were kind enough to provide this sample. This gold label collection
01:18version of armored Batman is also a McFarlane toys store exclusive for 2024
01:22and is only having 6,200 pieces released of it worldwide. The figure
01:27though of Batman is gonna stand at seven and a half inches in height or standing
01:30in Supe's way Batman is 19 centimeters tall. As I guess you could probably
01:34already guess it Batman is using the same mold as the two-pack armored Batman
01:38that got packed along with the man of steel. He does have some balancing issues
01:42actually this figure does have it as well with some loosely developing ankles
01:46but you can see that they are using the exact same mold. We did also as well get
01:50another armored Batman although it's a completely different mold same armor
01:54essentially from like the neck down but a completely different head sculpt. Sadly
01:58while not coming clue with gadgets Batman does though have at his disposal
02:01display stand a podium standee to hold the card and some swappable hands. First
02:06the thing that we'll have a look at is the display stand. I gotta say though I'm
02:09a little disappointed with the way that the stand was handled. It's a circular
02:12stand that's not the disappointing part but while assuming initially that this
02:16was molded in gold plastic unfortunately I was disappointed to see
02:19that looks like what they've used is a black display stand as there's the DC
02:23logo still peeking its way through the paint. They brushed on the gold but maybe
02:27a second coat probably would have done it better because you can still see like
02:30some of the black plastic bleeding through. It has a peg though to the corner
02:34I will say certainly use the display stand as this Batman does have a lot of
02:37back heaviness just due to the cape that he has on his body. The figure does also
02:41come include the podium standee. Now with this being a patina edition the whole
02:44idea in mind is supposed to look like oxidized bronze. Now with the display
02:49stand what they've done and they they will also do with that I didn't want to
02:52drop that is that they start this first with gold and then my guess is that they
02:56then maybe paint on the bronze or maybe they paint on the oxidized color or
03:00perhaps it's the other way around maybe they start in fact with a darker color
03:03that's probably what it is they started with maybe a like a dark blue plastic
03:07and then they painted over the bronze over top of it to give it that oxidized
03:10look. Maybe that's what they're also doing here as well but I don't think it
03:15works maybe as well as the standee. The standee though as you probably would
03:18guess it also does house the card. We're going to slide that off carefully. The
03:23card itself does have patina edition featured on the side. It does have
03:26armored Batman featured on the bottom and a decent image though of what the
03:29character is going to look like. The back though will not give you a read up. What
03:32it gives you instead is a certificate of authenticity indicating that this is of
03:36an officially licensed release by McFarlane and his team and out of the 6200
03:41releases this one is indicated as p18. Todd's signature is down below you don't
03:45have to worry about rubbing that off it's just a printed on image but nice
03:48little card. I mean I I like that they actually include certificates of
03:52authenticity on the back if you really do want to read up you can always go
03:55back to the original armored Batman and get it that way. Let's just put this back
03:59on the standee and for these usually I always put them with the standees. I
04:03never put them in my trading card sheets. They go specifically with a standee. I
04:07might as well have them on its display the way you're seeing right now.
04:11Batman does also come include some swappable hands. He has these mauling
04:15hands. Now already on the ends of his forms he has a closed grip, a punching
04:19fist and then he also has a gripping hand or relaxed hand on the other side.
04:22If you like this idea and you want it on this side you would just pop that hand
04:25off and replace it with this one instead or there's also this available
04:29option too. This hand isn't really that much different from the hand that he
04:32already has. I mean like just picking up the figure and show you guys. Very close
04:36maybe. I don't know. They probably may have used the plastic instead of giving
04:40him essentially two almost identical hands. I know obviously this one looks
04:43more like a trigger finger hand but having hands so close like this and not
04:47coming through with accessories I probably would have maybe done away with
04:49one of these hands in favor of maybe a grapple gun. The hands themselves again
04:54very much similar to the podium. Starts kind of with more of a greenish blue and
04:58then they paint the coloring over top of it. You can look on the inside there as
05:02well. Some of it has looked like it's chipped away. I mean obviously I I've
05:06only swapped out the hands a couple of times but it adds to kind of the idea
05:10that this thing's made of metal. The hands themselves are kind of put off to
05:13the side. We'll also move the podium out of the way here. Getting a closer look
05:16though at Batman. The thing I really like about this one is it lends the idea that
05:20this is more of a statue than anything else. Patinas you have to kind of tread
05:23this cautiously because some of the figures from the characters I think work
05:27a little bit better than others. Being that this is Batman as it comes to blows
05:30with obviously Superman I think I can buy more to the idea that this
05:35thing would have been essentially a statue. Maybe a battered Bruce would have
05:38this maybe as a as a monument. Something that would be standing in the back of
05:42the Batcave. I mean essentially though it is still using the original two pack
05:45Batman so you can see like the head sculpts a little bit more comic accurate.
05:49Bodies are exactly going to be the same to one another. I love the forged out
05:54metal that they've done for the body even though this is obviously comprised
05:57of plastic. The Patina edition has that exactly as well. There really isn't
06:01anything that I can see from one to the other that would say that this is
06:04uniquely sculpted specifically for the Patina edition. They are in fact identical
06:08head sculpts and identical bodies as well. Now also bringing back in that
06:12original gray Batman the gray armored Batman was also sold separately. You can
06:17see it has a completely different head sculpt. We've done reviews of all of
06:20these by the way so if you missed your chance to see that the first time go
06:23back watch it again. But with this head sculpt you can see it's a little bit
06:27more modernized for an armored Batman. I always kind of liked more like the
06:31bucket head sculpt for the armored Batman so this is a little bit more up
06:35my alley. Same body though same capes as well. We can flip this around you can see
06:39the capes are sculpted exactly the same and he has the same style of treading on
06:42the bombs of his boots. Now speaking of boots though one of the issues that I
06:46did have with the original armored Batman I suppose is if anything something
06:50that's more developed over time is that his ankles have started to develop a
06:53little bit of a looseness just with so much weight on his body and so
06:56much weight on the back with his cape. I mean it's just something that's
06:59eventually gonna be inevitable. The figure does have a little bit more of a
07:02looseness standing. I did though notice though and it may have something to do
07:05with the fact that they're using this mold again that his ankles are even more
07:09looser. So definitely would recommend though if you're looking to pick this
07:12figure up for yourself and I would really highly recommend it. Make sure you
07:15are attaching the display stand on the bombs of his boots so that when you're
07:19putting him on the shelf poor Bats isn't gonna take a tumble. Now for the figures
07:23articulation I guess we really haven't spent nearly enough time really talking
07:26about the detailing on this figure. Now again I would imagine that they probably
07:29would have started this perhaps with this bluer plastic. It's sort of more of
07:33an aquamarine or kind of a teal colored blue and then they would have brushed
07:36over top of it this gold. It gives us again a really natural looking oxidized
07:40bronze. Head sculpt looks again really quite good. It has to look unfinished
07:45that's the whole idea in mind. I don't really expect looking and picking up a
07:48figure like this that I would want this figure to be completely bronze or
07:51completely gold. Having those little touches of detail like the the paint
07:55bleeding through lends more to the idea that this character would have been an
07:59oxidized metal. Again it looks a little more rushed when it comes to the display
08:02stand but it works exceptionally well when it comes to this character. The cape
08:06as well you can see does have that again that teal color that starts as the basic
08:10plastic and then it would have painted the bronze over top of it. It works
08:13really quite well for this particular Batman. I don't know if I would say you
08:17could just randomly select any Batman from any of the previous
08:20DC multiverse figures, slap on some bronze and call it patina edition. There
08:24has to be specific ideas in mind. There has to be a purpose, a plan in
08:28mind as to why you choose this Batman over others. I think the armored
08:31Batman is the best example of a Batman you could use as a believable statue
08:35displayed in the back of the Batcave. Now for the figures articulation going back
08:40to that head sculpt. The head's going to be like with the original on a ball
08:43joint. It allows the head to rotate all the way around. You can have the head
08:45looking up and down and move back and forth. Some attention to the detail as
08:49well. If you move the head back like this you can actually see that they've
08:52sculpted in the neck. It's something though that gets lost completely when
08:56you have the head moving forward like this or tilted forward but I like that
08:59they actually took the time to sculpt the neck. The upper torso
09:03of the body is gonna be on a ball joint. A little bit more limited obviously
09:07because there's so much more bulk here but the Batman torso does have a ball
09:10joint. You can bring these arms out. Now the thing about the arms is that the
09:14shoulder pads are attached here not up here so it means that when it comes to
09:18bringing out his arms there's only so much that you can actually do with them.
09:21Sure enough they rotate all the way around. You're not gonna have any
09:24issues there. He has no bicep swivel from the looks of it but he does
09:28have a swivel in his arm. Of course there is also a hinge in his elbow as
09:32well. Hands rotate also all the way around a little on the loose side but
09:36not as loose as the ankles. There's no hinge that I can see as well. It looks
09:40like it's just a straight swivel. The legs do split out about that far. You can
09:46take the legs and obviously move them forward and move them back. There is a
09:49swivel at the top of the thigh. The figure does have looseness unfortunately
09:53in the knees but he still has double hinges in his knees. No articulation
09:57here down below for his boots but he does have an ankle pivot up and down. An
10:00ankle rocker and this version of Armored Batman does still have like the
10:04original an articulated toe. In the end of it though I mean obviously with this
10:08being a gold label collection and being a patina edition they're not gonna go
10:12back to the basics back to the drawing board and sculpt the figure from
10:15scratch. No they're obviously gonna be using one from one they've done before
10:19and I think that this is a prime candidate for one that would be a
10:22patina edition. I mean not that Batman is... I mean he could be vain in the sense
10:26that Batman always seems to keep like a trophy of his armors similar to Iron Man.
10:30I think if anything would be a prime candidate for a haul of armors would be
10:34the one that Batman does use as really one of the few times Batman has worn an
10:38armor but I think that this is a good candidate for an ideal release as a
10:42patina edition. I don't feel like the colors... I mean again we're only really
10:46getting two colors really treated to this character. The original release did
10:49have the lighter blues it had kind of like that darker metallic blue and some
10:53again some beige colors in his utility belt. This Batman only really relies on
10:57that teal color within the brushing of the bronze over top of it. Didn't really
11:00need necessarily accessories I suppose it doesn't I mean at the end of it you
11:03still get yourself a podium standee whether you displayed it want to
11:06display with the characters or not. You get also as well a display stand which
11:10again I wish that this was only just molded in the gold plastic and not just
11:13painted over top of an existing one. And then he also comes in with a display
11:17stand with extra hands. I don't think he necessarily needs to have extra hands I
11:21mean yes he probably could have maybe used a batarang a grapple gun but at the
11:26end of it though I mean he only comes with some swappable hands which I guess
11:28is more than enough. For me at least depending on how you like to display
11:32these things on your shelf I would really like to treat though the patina
11:35edition of the armored Batman from the Dark Knight Returns more as a monument
11:38than an actual figure. Now if you've never had any experience ordering
11:41directly from McFarland site but you've had lots of experience ordering directly
11:44from GameStop the good news though is the patina edition of armored Batman is
11:48right now showing as a pre-order on GameStop site with a release date of
11:52October 11th 2024. The time that I'm shooting this review that's only a few
11:56days from now so when this review eventually goes live so will be the
12:00listing as well on GameStop. The figure is going to be going there for $39.99 I
12:05really like patina edition figures myself and like I said in this review a
12:09worthy candidate of a patina edition would of course be the memory that Bruce
12:12has when he beats Superman. The figure does have because of he's using the same
12:17mold as what two times before. He's got a little bit of a looseness though in his
12:20knees and he's developing some looseness in his ankles. You're asking a lot really
12:24of this frame of Batman because there's so much weight on him especially with
12:27the heavier cape on the back of his body. Providing of course you are using a
12:31displaced end I'm using right now you shouldn't have any problems with Bruce
12:34taking a tumble. When it comes to his accessory count it's quite small. The
12:38figure only really comes in clue with the displaced end that could really have
12:42afforded a little bit more extra paint. The podium standee that of course houses
12:45the card and some swappable hands. I can't see myself ever really needing the
12:49feeling the need to change the hands. I think a punching fist is fine if he's
12:52battling the man of steel and a couple of gripping hands I mean I can't see
12:55myself ever really changing those but a nice-looking Batman one that I'm
12:59definitely looking forward to putting on the display may not though be displayed
13:02with the other two battle armor Batman. This one might even just be displayed
13:06with just a regular Batman as again depicted like this is being displayed
13:09inside the Batcave. What do you guys think of this figure? Let me know down
13:12below in the comment section. Is this one you guys could see yourselves picking up?
13:15Again as mentioned it's limited to only 6,200 pieces worldwide. You can either go
13:21again the route of going to McFarland site or again you can also order this
13:24from GameStop. A big thank you once again to the folks over at McFarland toys that
13:28did provide this sample. This was the DC multiverse armored Batman from the
13:32Batman Dark Knight Returns and this was the patina edition. If you guys did
13:36enjoy this video do it a solid throw it a like. You guys want to stick around for
13:38more so I hope so hit the subscribe turn on that bell and of course come back. Of
13:44course we are gonna be looking at some more McFarland toys stuff but in the
13:46meantime if you need your fix popping up at the very end of this video will be
13:50playlists both for Batman and DC multiverse and of course as always guys
13:54thanks for watching see you guys next time!
