00:00Hmm, I see that Cobblepot is doing something very different with his colors.
00:04Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse DC Classics Platinum Edition
00:09The Penguin.
00:29They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but they also say evil is as evil does.
00:33A master manipulator, The Penguin is usually surrounded by violent hedgemen who do the
00:37bidding without question.
00:38But when it comes down to face-to-face, expect him to unleash a deadly barrage of a variety
00:42of umbrella weapons and other ingenious devices, often taking the form of foul.
00:47And when all else fails, The Penguin will fight as dirty as they come.
00:50Hand-to-hand combat doesn't ruffle his feathers at all.
00:53Since this fiendish felon has been loose, fish felonies have gone up 20%.
00:58Just before we get a closer look though at McFarlane Collectors Edition DC Comics Platinum
01:02Edition, wow, I don't even know how I'm going to get that all in the title.
01:05I'll worry about that later.
01:06The tape measure is going to tell us that this version of Penguin is going to stand
01:09at 6 1⁄4 inches in height, where Oswald Cobblepot is 16 centimeters tall.
01:15Obviously, it's still using the same mold as the original DC Classics Penguin we looked
01:19at about a week or so ago.
01:20The cosmetic changes are more inspired by the what stuff we got from Kenner, based the
01:24color scheme here on the original Super Powers version of Penguin, which I had at one point.
01:29I don't know what's whereabouts right now.
01:31I didn't do this last time.
01:32I'm going to do this right now though.
01:33Here's also what the figure looks like with the Arkham series version of Penguin.
01:35I'm not going to bring in the Batman's Penguin because he looks nothing like Oswald Cobblepot
01:39from the comic pages.
01:40I am, however, though, going to bring in the ones we got also from Mattel.
01:43I did this the last time as well, though this one isn't going to be as much close in colors
01:47as a little bit more close to the original version of Penguin, but hey, however, there
01:51was also this version of Penguin that also got released too.
01:54Both the colors again, the blues, the yellows, and even the purples are exactly the same.
01:58The only thing, unfortunately, the newer release one from McFarlane's team does miss the mark
02:01on is the additional panel stripe that he has down below in his pants.
02:05If you were lucky enough to pick up that original Penguin, the figure then has the exact same
02:10accessories as this one here.
02:12First the figure comes included with a display stand.
02:13The stand is no different really than the stand we got the first time around.
02:17Though now treated to a silver DC logo down below, the normal multiverse stuff doesn't
02:21get that extra frills.
02:22The silver does work quite well and I really kind of wish that they could use silver kind
02:25of moving forward instead of just going with a very dark black because a lot of times you
02:29just can't see it.
02:30Do I have one over here?
02:31I usually have myself a little stack of stands.
02:33Got one right over here.
02:34I'm just going to bring in the original stand so you guys can see.
02:37I mean, you already know by now what these stands look like.
02:40It's so hard to kind of really make out the DC logo.
02:42Some people just prefer that because it's just a very neutral looking display stand
02:46that you can use then for other figure companies.
02:48I suppose maybe it isn't a bad deal at all the fact that only really the frills get offered
02:51up here with the collector's edition or platinum edition McFarlane toys.
02:54Why are we spending so much time talking about stands?
02:57Let's put those to the side.
02:58We're going to spend a little bit more time talking about stands.
03:00This figure comes included still with a podium stand that has the card located in the top.
03:04The DC logo is printed here in the front, all painted again nicely in silver, all hollow
03:08though on the back.
03:09I'm going to put that over to the side.
03:11By the way though, it is the same one that we got with the original Penguin and it also
03:14features the exact same card.
03:16If you're hoping though, the back of it would have a completely different read up.
03:19Are you new here?
03:20No.
03:21Exactly the same read up from one to the other.
03:23So if you've already extensively read this one, probably had to go back and read a couple
03:26of times because the wording sometimes gets you all tongue tied.
03:29It happens to me as well.
03:30Then you've read this one also as well.
03:32It's the exact same card.
03:33So we're going to put that back in.
03:34I do kind of wish that they could have given us a different card, but I mean really considering
03:38the fact that all the budget then went into casting this now in a different plastic color,
03:42I don't mind at all that they then save some of the cost with not producing additional
03:46things that weren't packed with the original Penguin.
03:48Keep wiping away the screen here.
03:51The figure comes included still with the same exact hands as the original Penguin.
03:54One closed fist, one open hand.
03:57So if you didn't really want to have him with the means to hold his parasol right now,
04:00swap it out for either one of these and you'll be doing away with that idea completely.
04:04The closed fist and the gripping hand or the gestured hand, it's just a simple case of
04:08popping off the hands that he already has right now.
04:10Maybe we'll come back to that more in a moment.
04:11The figure also comes included with his umbrella, which though is different, at least not from
04:15a molding standpoint, but at least from the color.
04:18The original parasol would have been all here in gold, which still has the Penguin head
04:21there for the top of the handle.
04:23But this time around, the actual folded portion of the umbrella would have been all in black.
04:27This time around though, we actually get ourselves a folded up umbrella still, but at least it's
04:30colored here in red.
04:32It looks to be as well that when you're looking at the two, the head of the bird, the Penguin,
04:37is a little bit different.
04:38I mean, you know, you can see that this one has a little bit more of a metallic gold finish.
04:41This one has kind of a more of a neutral, more yellow finished gold.
04:45I do wish though that they could have included an extra parasol and I may have even mentioned
04:49that when we looked at the original Penguin.
04:51That up fine is for the original one, but maybe if they had gone all out with this one
04:54and given us the opened umbrella.
04:56One thing I did do though, in preparation to this, I just grabbed to the side here.
05:00These are the umbrellas that came in with the original Mattel releases.
05:03These were exactly the same.
05:04This was for the original black version of the Penguin.
05:07And then this one here was the colored version that came included with the blue Penguin.
05:10Kind of again, more inspired by the Kenner.
05:12Both of these also had, even though these aren't accessories obviously that come included
05:15with these figures, they had these, I'm guessing this would be machine guns and then this would
05:19be the part that rotates and basically shoots out the holes, even though there's really
05:22no holes on the front of this.
05:23I don't think Oswald's really thought this out very well, but this anyways does spin.
05:27You could though take these off.
05:29So if you don't really like the idea that these are already on these, you just clip
05:32these or de-clip them, remove them.
05:34Oh, actually look at this.
05:36I've still got the elastic clipped on this one.
05:37It doesn't matter.
05:38It doesn't matter.
05:39I'm only going to remove it from the one that was more interesting anyways.
05:41This one had the alternate colors of the red and the blue and it was paneled as you can
05:44see with the yellow.
05:46This one I've already taken the liberty of removing.
05:48You could take this off altogether and if you wanted to, even though it isn't really
05:51sized appropriately to this penguin, you could though use this umbrella.
05:56I'll put this into his hand, you guys can see.
05:59It's a little on the small side, admittedly, but if you wanted to, if you wanted to have
06:03this one a little bit more closer to the original Kenner penguin, then you could actually use
06:07this umbrella if you happen to have the original one still released from Mattel.
06:10I'm just going to remove that right now.
06:12We're going to put that off to the side.
06:14I guess we don't really need this podium either.
06:15We'll just move that also off to the side.
06:17Getting a closer look though at now the Kenner version of Penguin, I like the colors.
06:22I know this isn't going to be something that's going to appeal to everybody.
06:25Most people probably that are just the casual collectors of penguin figures or even like
06:28the DC classic figures probably would be more interested, I would imagine, and I'm not going
06:31to assume that.
06:32I'm going to make that assumption for everybody, but I'd probably be a little bit more interested,
06:35I would imagine, in just the black top hat, black jacket, and then the orange vest.
06:40When I did do the review though of that one, I did also mention the fact that for strange
06:43reasons, I don't know, the bottom half of his jacket was all here like a dark blue.
06:47The top was black and that was fine, but reasons, again, unknown, this whole dark,
06:51this section down below here wasn't in black, but they actually went in there and painted
06:54it blue.
06:55I don't have that problem also here with this Penguin, but again, like if you're looking
06:58at the two, the exact, the molds are exactly the same to one another.
07:01You know, in a way though, I kind of wish that they could have changed the face just
07:04a little bit.
07:05If they are going to be retooling this or at least recasting this same mold, why not
07:10do something a little bit different?
07:11Why not knock stuff off in the side here?
07:13Bringing the original Penguin here we got from Mattel, remember that this one did have,
07:16still had the monocle on the corner of his eye, but it did have a big smile on his face
07:20as well.
07:21Kind of gave him a little bit more of a jovial face.
07:22I wish that they could have done maybe something similar here to this Penguin.
07:25I mean, we already have really this head sculpt anyways, why not maybe just change the face
07:29a little bit and give Penguin either a cigar, which would be one thing that's still unfortunately
07:34lacking with both of the figures, or just a big smile on his face.
07:37I think that would be a nice touch as well.
07:38I am really missing the fact that this guy does not have a cigarette.
07:41I don't know really what the mandate is when it comes to, we all know that guns, guns are
07:46a big no-no.
07:47You can't have guns with any of these figures.
07:48But the idea of a cigar, could we not have included that?
07:51I think this Penguin could have had a little cigar and then the other one didn't have to
07:55have that.
07:56But again, like the colors here again, a lot brighter because now you got yourself a blue
07:59top hat, blue jacket, very bright yellow vest here, and purple pants.
08:04The only thing unfortunately missing, while it still has the matching spats, I mean like
08:07they almost match color to color.
08:10The pants and even like the jacket are almost like mirror copies to one another.
08:13This would be an expert paint person.
08:15If you ever went into a paint place and you usually bring in like a little color sample,
08:18I needed to match this.
08:20And there's always that one expert, they always say, hey, hey, Bill, Bill, come out, come
08:23over here for a second.
08:24This person needs to match the colors.
08:26And Bill's kind of walking out, he's just finishing up a sandwich, he's got like food
08:28all over his shirt, and he's kind of just wipes away his face, he's like, I'm going
08:32to do this.
08:33And he goes in there and just proceeds to match the colors perfectly to whatever color
08:35sample somebody brought in.
08:37I feel like whoever worked behind the scenes at McFarland Toys matched the colors perfectly.
08:41I mean, look at the colors for the purple, for example.
08:43The hats are exactly the same, jacket.
08:46The only thing that they didn't do quite right is that they didn't match the matching silver.
08:50So he's got a little bit more of a pearl silver there for his bow tie, this version of penguin.
08:55They went instead kind of with more just a gray, and that's okay.
08:58But the rest of the colors I think are perfectly matched.
09:00The only thing again that's missing, unfortunately, is this guy doesn't have the pinstripes on
09:03his pants.
09:05But maybe they decided that it was just maybe too much, too complicated, and just striping
09:09pants might be something that could be missed or painted improperly.
09:12For example, you can see again, like the original one with Mattel was fine.
09:15I mean, I kind of wish that they could have still used panel lining.
09:18But the fact that we get a figure from head to toe that matches that color, Bill's been
09:22doing a good job.
09:23Bill needs a raise, even though he's got food all over his place, all over his shirt, all
09:27over the floor.
09:28He's just coming out the back.
09:29I don't even know where he was.
09:30It's just Bill living in the back corner of the building.
09:32He doesn't even really have a home.
09:34Bill sort of just works and then lives in the store.
09:36Anyways, though, for the figure's articulation, I know we didn't really spend a whole lot
09:39of time talking about the face sculpt, though, but once again, a stellar sculpt for Oswald
09:43Cobblepot.
09:44He's got the pointy nose.
09:45He's got the monocle there on the side of his eye.
09:47Of course, the top hat is not removable, so don't try to rip it off, whatever you do.
09:51But for the figure's articulation, it's going to be exactly the same as the original DC
09:54Classics Penguin, in that his head is on a ball joint, so it looks up about that high.
09:59It looks down about that low.
10:01It also rocks back and forth, and in theory, you could rotate all the way around, although
10:04in theory, you'd basically be snapping the poor penguin's neck.
10:08The arms do also rotate all the way around.
10:10You can bring the arms out easily at 90 degrees, although this arm's a little on the looser
10:14side.
10:15It still moves out at 90 degrees.
10:16There's a swivel there at the bicep, a double hinge on the elbow, and the hands rotate all
10:20the way around.
10:21Penguin still possesses an upper torso ball joint, and this, by the way, is just because
10:25you can't see this yourself.
10:26It's not like you can reach your hand through the screen and touch this.
10:29Hey, stay with my figure.
10:30But you can.
10:31As you can see here, there's a little bit of a softer plastic that they've used for
10:34basically his midriff area.
10:36Probably just an overlay that they put over top of a figure frame.
10:39Legs are on ball hinges, or I guess hinge joints.
10:41You can split the legs about that far.
10:43He does, yes, still have the figure diaper, if you want to call it that.
10:46Legs go forward.
10:47Legs go back.
10:48Swivel at the top of the thigh.
10:49Single hinge on the knee.
10:50Rotation.
10:51Lower leg.
10:52Hinge back and forth to the ankle, and you can also rock him back and forth.
10:54The figure also does have toe articulation, even though I'm sure you're not going to be
10:57putting this guy in acrobatic poses.
11:00That's the penguin from the Batman cartoon.
11:02All in all, though, I really like the look of this penguin.
11:04Why is he over there?
11:05Well, he's over there because we're going to be bringing this guy back in, and again,
11:08what we'll do is we'll bring back in the Mattel releases, even though obviously McFarlane
11:12Toys is doing their own thing.
11:13They didn't do these things back in the day of the DC Universe Classics figures, but again,
11:17that's what the color schemes, as you can see, again, matched perfectly.
11:21The only thing that's disappointing, though, is that the original penguin that I had a
11:23look at, I know we've already discussed that extensively in his review, is that there's
11:26still that kind of blue area around the area of his jacket.
11:29Other than that, though, matching the colors really well on this figure.
11:32Disappointed also the fact that they didn't decide to do something a little bit different
11:34with the parasols, with the umbrellas, that if this one was, for example, all folded up,
11:38they could have taken the time and made the liberty of having this one being opened up.
11:42Maybe down the road, we might get ourselves, I don't know, a penguin accessory pack, probably
11:45very slim to none, but I really like the fact that we did get ourselves two variations of
11:49penguin.
11:50Yes, it is using the same mold.
11:51Yes, I'm sure there could have been an opportunity where they could have gone in there and changed
11:54the faces just slightly, maybe mimicking something a little bit more closer to this, but still
12:00all in all, a nice looking penguin.
12:01Probably not going to be displaying this guy, though, with the rest of my rogues gallery.
12:03I think this particular penguin, swiping away the screen again, I think this version of
12:08penguin, freeing up space again, is probably going to be displayed, I think, with this
12:11version of Riddler, just because, again, they look a little bit more like their original
12:14Kenner counterparts.
12:15Even though Riddler really wasn't released, I think he was released in Brazil, using basically
12:19the Hal Jordan green lantern body, just basically painted all in green.
12:23The place where I normally pick up a lot of my figures online happened to have both the
12:26regular penguin and the platinum edition penguin that we looked at in this review.
12:30Unfortunately, though, by the time I had funds available, I went back to look at that online
12:33site and didn't have that penguin anymore.
12:35Luckily, though, I did find him elsewhere.
12:37But one thing about the platinum edition penguin is that he's going to ask a little bit more
12:40from your wallet, as I think he's about $15 or so more than a regular classics edition.
12:45Some may say he's just a total pass altogether, that if they really were to get an Oswald
12:49Cobblebot for their collection, yes, the DC classics would be the route they would go,
12:53but they would rather instead go with the black version of the penguin, or just again,
12:56the regular looked up penguin versus the one that we get here instead.
13:00I'm a little bit more attached to the way they were from like the Kenner days, even
13:03though this isn't going to be the definitive penguin on the show.
13:06I'm happy to have at least both ones so that the black jacket penguin will be the one that's
13:10going to go with my regular rogues gallery of Batman.
13:12And then this one will be set aside in a special place in a special shelf to be displayed.
13:17What I'm trying to do is building up all my kind of classic looking figures, maybe not
13:21the ones that belong in the regular DC multiverse kind of display, but ones that we set aside
13:26segregated to be displayed along with like already looked at the penguin and the Riddler.
13:31Those two figures I think are going to be the ones that are going to kind of start my
13:34collection of kind of superpowers inspired figures.
13:37But if you guys are interested, both penguins are available right now and let me know down
13:40below in the comment section, would you guys be interested to get both of them?
13:43And if given the choice and you only have the budget available for one, which one would
13:47you choose the black jacket or the blue jacket?
13:49Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:51If in the meantime, you guys did enjoy this video, why not throw it a like.
