00:00NECA is now offering up two lambs for the slaughter! Here's a look at the brand
00:04new NECA toys in American Werewolf in London, Ultimate Jack Goodman and David
00:08Kessler.
00:30Introducing NECA's latest figures from American Werewolf in London, the classic
00:361981 horror comedy film that follows David Kessler and Jack Goodman, two
00:39college friends from New York City on an increasingly terrifying backpack trip
00:43through England, when they stumble upon a pub called the Slaughtered Lamb. During a
00:47full moon night, the hostile locals have one piece of advice, stay on the road and
00:51keep clear of the Moors. The long-awaited action figure 2-pack features David and
00:55Jack as they faithfully wander through the Moors and being attacked by a
00:58vicious werewolf. Both figures are fully posable and stand in NECA's 7-inch
01:02scale. David includes an interchangeable nightmare expression and Jack includes
01:06swappable coat, arms and multiple expressions to recreate the various
01:09stages of decay seen throughout the film. I don't know, I think there's a bad moon on
01:13the rise. I didn't even bring a blanket! Before we get a closer look though at
01:17the American Werewolf in London, Ultimate Jack Goodman and David Kessler, first I'd
01:21like to thank the folks over at NECA that were kind enough to provide this
01:24sample. A pretty cool-looking set. Looking forward to showing you guys the
01:27details on both. Before we do that though, of course, let's grab the tape
01:30measure and see how tall that each of the figures stand. Starting though first,
01:32David Kessler before things get a little hairy. The figure's gonna stand at 7
01:36inches in height or Kessler is gonna be about 18 centimeters tall. Then to Jack,
01:41who's at least in a better state right now. That's gonna change really quickly
01:44though. He's gonna be a little bit shorter though than David and Jack's
01:47only about 6 and 3 quarters of an inch in height. Can we get that all out?
01:51Translating though to a figure that's 16 and a half centimeters tall. At least as a
01:55human, this is the first time we've gotten a David Kessler. The same though can't be
01:59said for his buddy Jack Goodman. In a more decayed state, NECA did in fact pack
02:02a Tooney Terror release of him along with a Kessler Wolf. Of course, when it
02:06comes to Kessler, many are already familiar of course with the Kessler Wolf
02:09Ultimate figure that we've already gotten from NECA Toys. Easily for me, what
02:12falls within the top five favorite figures that we've ever gotten from the
02:16company. In fact, so much so, I'm kind of even tempted to go back and revisit a
02:19review of this guy. Let me know if you guys would be interested in that. He
02:22certainly though is a lot more wolfy in that state. What's the matter with wolfy?
02:25I can hear him barking. No, wolfy's fine, honey. Wolfy's just fine. Your best friend
02:29is dead. Speaking of slaughtered friends, get a load of all the decayed parts of
02:32Jack Goodman. I'll be assembling on to the figure shortly. First, maybe what
02:36we'll do though is look at David Kessler because there's a whole lot less going
02:39on with him. Of course, there's a whole lot more going on with him as we
02:42progress through the movie. The figure itself does depict David Kessler quite
02:45nicely here. The likeness I think is quite spot-on. The figure of course is
02:49wearing his bomber jacket. He does have complete of course on the back of him
02:52his knapsack. The backpack isn't removable on him and it's not certainly
02:55removable on Jack Goodman's either, although he does things a little bit
02:58differently. The pack I did notice though it was a little bit more hollow so it's
03:02a lot squishier as you can see. The details though can't be lost here at all.
03:06I mean certainly there's a lot going on here. I love that they've also gone in
03:08here and panel lined the back of the pack as well. Of course, the jacket itself
03:12looks very much like it does in the movie. The head sculpt though, again to go
03:15back and look at this again, not only am I thrilled we finally get
03:18ourselves a Goodman and Kessler pack, but the fact that the likenesses are as
03:21good as they are, I'm really really happy with this release. Of course, the
03:25fact that he does have the bomber jacket doesn't seem to limit much in the way of
03:28his posability. I mean when it comes to really posability and moving this guy
03:31around, getting about a 45 degree angle bend is about the best that you can be
03:35able to get with this guy. But to be you know obviously looking at the
03:38way that sculpted of the jacket anyways, I can understand why you can only get
03:42that much going on with his arms. Maybe you could push it beyond those limits. I
03:45hate to risk the potential of that breaking the peg. Of course, down
03:50he's got his regular blue pants. Nice-looking hiking boots have been
03:54sculpted and painted well there as well. Of course, on the bottoms of Kessler's
03:57boots, there's the ever reliable peg holes. In fact, I actually did make
04:01use of the peg holes at the beginning of this review. I did use a display stand
04:05truth be told, though it wasn't part of this set, but it is using universally
04:09sized peg holes in the bottoms. So if you do want to use a display stand, because
04:12I did notice that with both these figures being that they have packs on
04:15their back like this, it does make them a little bit more back heavy. Of course,
04:20the figure does also have a swappable head sculpt. And of course, before we do
04:24that though, I guess maybe what we'll do is we'll look at the articulation here
04:27for David. The head's gonna rotate all the way around. Not that it really does
04:29matter when you change out his head. What I'm doing right now is the same thing
04:33it's gonna be able to do when we get the Nightmare Face on there. He's got a
04:36ball joint here for the head. He's got a ball joint actually here at the base of
04:38his neck. When you do sometimes move this, I noticed the first time I pop the head
04:43off, every time I kind of try to move the head around, especially at the neck
04:46area, every once in a while it does pop the ball joint off. It's a simple fix
04:49though. It's easily just a case of putting on the ball socket on back onto
04:53the peg. But again, like the arms do rotate all the way around. He does have a
04:58swivel, a single single hinge joint only in the elbow, but he still manages to get
05:02a swivel there in his forearm as well. Hands of course rotate all the way
05:05around. One thing though is that neither of these figures actually have swappable
05:09hands. Technically you could say that Jack Goodman does, but the Decade hands
05:13are already part of his Decade sleeves and there's probably very little
05:15likelihood that you probably will want to change the hands out with the hands
05:18that he has right now. The figure does have an upper torso ball joint. Also
05:23allows for a bit of a swivel there as well. The legs split, but because his
05:27jacket sits as far as it down as it does, that's about as far as it splits
05:31as you can actually pull off with the figure. The legs go forward only about
05:34that much. The legs also certainly go back about that much as well. And again,
05:38a little bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh. Single hinge knee,
05:41rotation in the lower leg, and then you got your ankle pivot up and down, and a
05:45nice ankle rocket there as well. Now before we actually jump over to Jack, I
05:49did also certainly want to show you guys what he looks like with the Nightmare
05:51head sculpt. I don't know what it is though. I mean even though he turns into
05:55the Kessler Wolf and it's just a horrifying sight to see, something go
05:58about this face also frightened me when I first saw the movie so many
06:02years ago. The coloring of his face looks pretty good and it does look fairly
06:05accurate to the movie, although his eyes don't glow as brightly as they do in the
06:09film. I think they've still done a nice job for the head. Now again, to change out
06:13the head, I kind of already showed you what ends up happening. When you take the
06:16head, you have to take the neck, and when you take the two together, you just pop
06:20that off. You take then the Nightmare head and you pop it in place.
06:24Technically I suppose he probably shouldn't be wearing this outfit, but
06:27maybe we might get ourselves a hospital. Maybe David down the road. I don't
06:32really know, but at least it shows you guys that there is an alternative
06:35option if you guys want to have this displayed on the shelf a little bit
06:38different than the way he starts out the packaging. So there's David Kessler.
06:42Let's just put him down here for a second. You may want to keep an eye on him
06:45though if he starts to kind of hair up there on his arms. Maybe somebody get a
06:49gun right away. On to though Jack Goodman. Poor Jack. Jack's gonna go through some
06:54tough times real soon. In fact, the figure also does have a pack on
06:59his back too. It seems to be a little bit more of a harder pack though than
07:03David's. You can't remove this one either, but technically you're gonna be
07:07also removing it in a while, in a second, because I'm gonna actually take the
07:10entire jacket off. Before we actually do that, though, I did want to show you guys
07:13what Jack's head sculpt looks like. Fairly, again, accurate to the way they've
07:17done it in the film. I think the paint's really done well here too. I mean, when
07:21you think of things small like this, like pupils, I think NECA has always done a
07:24really good job of recreating realistic faces. Of course, his articulation is
07:29gonna be pretty much the same as David's. Nice-looking jacket overall on
07:33this one. The jacket on both of the figures are also a little bit softer in
07:37plastic. This one's gonna play more of an important role because, of course, you're
07:40gonna also be taking the jacket off in a second. The sleeves match nicely. I think
07:44they've done a nice job of coloring this too, even like the individual creases
07:47here. Did anybody have a jacket like this in the 80s? I mean, my mother had a jacket,
07:52although her jacket was a little bit longer like that. That was the mom jacket.
07:54It usually was in pink. It usually was in purple or like a beige. It was always kind
07:58of a bomber jacket that looked something similar to this. Of course, he's got his
08:01jeans down below. They're a little more dirtier and scuffed up than maybe David's,
08:05and he's also got, as well, the same similar style of hiking boots. Of course,
08:09the run-through, the articulation here for a jacket's pretty much gonna be the
08:12exact same. Ball joint head, ball joint neck, yeah, ball joint upper torso. Follow
08:16along with me. Arms gonna rotate all the way around. You got a bow, a hinge. Now, I
08:20noticed, though, with his arms, his arms can actually pull off a T-pose. It's not
08:25to say, though, that David's can't, but maybe I just wasn't forcing it as much. I
08:28wasn't really forcing at all when it came to Jack's, but also, too, Jack's arms
08:33are gonna detach in a second, too, so stay tuned for that. Again, you've got your...
08:36Oh, there's one of the arms popping off there. Back in place. Legs are gonna split
08:41out. Again, you got a bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh. Single-hinged
08:44knee. All the same stuff as David. And again, you got your ankle pivot, ankle
08:48rocker there, as well. So let's now start to get this guy a little bit more decayed.
08:52One of the coolest things, though, about American Werewolf was the fact that, over
08:56the time, Jack dies. I hate to be the bearer of breaking bad news, but, of
09:00course, I'm sure you've already seen the movie. It came out in the early 80s. But as
09:04though Jack dies, he keeps coming back as basically just, like, I don't know, like
09:08just an imaginary friend. I mean, he starts just obviously hallucinating and
09:12seeing Jack everywhere. And as he continues to see Jack, Jack looks a
09:16little worse than he did in the time before. Now, what they've done nicely,
09:19though, is, like, NECA has given them alternate pieces. So, like, you get
09:23yourself a jacket. Well, I shouldn't say a complete jacket. You get the sleeves.
09:28Those sleeves are certainly separate. And, of course, you got yourself the decayed
09:31hands there, as well. So you can already see why you probably wouldn't want to
09:34use these hands with the way that Jack looks, at least right now. So
09:37these sleeves are eventually gonna go into the jacket. Jacket, again, looks got
09:41really got some nice decay going for it. And then you've also got two alternate
09:45head sculpts. So, again, we start pretty clean and still fully alive with Jack.
09:49But then it gets progressively worse. Well, that's probably the worst of the
09:53bunch. You get with this one here starting first. So you can see, yeah,
09:56something's not quite right with Jack's face. There's a lot of decay
10:00and rot happening on the side, as well as on the top. He's got these gash wounds
10:04there all over the place. And his skin is getting a very awkwardly looking gray.
10:07And then he also has this even more decayed state head sculpt. Again, to
10:12change everything out. So what we're gonna do, this is the fun part about this
10:16figure, you're gonna detach the arms completely. Divorce them all together
10:20from the torso. Do the exact same on this side, as well. There we go. And it becomes a
10:25little bit easier once you've done this a couple of times. Although, doing it a
10:28couple of times, I've noticed that when you start to turn Jack's arms in a
10:31regular looking, you know, healthier state like this, every once in a while, though,
10:34the arms just pop off. I mean, they're easy to pop back in place, though. You're
10:38also gonna want to remove the head altogether. And when you remove the head,
10:41you want to make sure that the neck comes along, as well. Detach both of them
10:44together. There we go. And then once you get him looking like this, thank goodness
10:50he doesn't end up looking like this in the movie, take the entire jacket along
10:54with the pack, because the pack is gonna come along with it, as well. Take
10:57everything and just slide it off the torso. And when you get it completely
11:02removed, you basically left behind this. Now, I don't know if maybe they could use
11:07this torso and these lower legs for another figure release. It would be smart
11:11if they did, but I can't quite think at the moment, right now, what other torso,
11:14what other figure or character they could use this torso for. Then you're gonna
11:18take yourself the new jacket, and you're gonna basically just revisit what you
11:22just did, but you're gonna do it in reverse steps. So that's gonna slide in
11:25place. Then you're gonna take yourself these sleeves, and these sleeves. You want
11:29to make sure, of course, whether you're a corpse or not, thumbs will always go in.
11:32That's the rule of thumb. There's the one, and we're gonna do the exact same thing
11:36on the other side, here, as well. Pop that in place. Make sure it's all the way in
11:40there, and then you can choose which head you want to then use. So would you guys
11:46rather go with the more, the most skeletal look of Jack, or you want to go
11:50with slightly a little bit more, a little more decayed? Well, this one's a little
11:54less decayed than, obviously, this one here. Both of them, by the way, I thought
11:57this guy actually did have mouth articulation, sort of the way that
12:00they've sculpted the lower jaw, like this, but it doesn't seem like he can move his
12:03jaw around. I think this may be too much of an extreme, but just to
12:08kind of give you guys an idea of what the two look like, I'm gonna stick with
12:10this head sculpt, because when I think of, like, dead Jack, this tends to be the
12:14head sculpt I generally think of. So we're gonna go ahead and take the neck.
12:19We're gonna plug it back in place. There we go. And now, all of a sudden, we've got
12:24ourselves Jack. I think, first of all, that's really clever. NECA probably, in
12:29the past, could have easily released Jack as two separate figures. Cleaner-looking
12:33Jack, obviously, with a decapitated head, but just imagine, if you will, a regular
12:37looking Jack, and maybe down the road, they could have also released a decayed
12:40release of this guy. But, I mean, over the times, NECA seems to just come with
12:44the craftier ways to incorporate swappable parts. The fact that what we
12:48started with, where was the original jacket here? The fact that we started
12:52with a jacket that looked like this, we now have a jacket that looks like this. We
12:55change the sleeves, we change the head, we essentially change, essentially,
12:58everything to the figure, except the lower half of his body, and just like
13:01that, we've got a completely different look for Jack Goodman. Of course, the
13:04articulation is gonna retain all the same. The only thing that's gonna be
13:07missing on the back of the figure, this time around, is the pack. But, again, like
13:10he's still gonna have the ball joint, the ball joint, hinge joints, obviously, in the
13:13shoulders, in the elbows, the hands. Everything is also gonna come packed
13:17along with Jack, even though it's a little less of Jack to go around. All in
13:21all, though, they're great. It's a great-looking set. I mean, for a while,
13:24though, like I said, like the Kessler Wolf, for me, was like top five favorite. There
13:27it is, right there. The Kessler Wolf, for me, was still one of my favorite figures,
13:32probably top five favorite figures of all time from NECA toys, and I had always
13:36really hoped that, eventually, we would get ourselves Jack Goodman and David
13:39Kessler. I think, kind of, initially, I thought, okay, they're probably gonna
13:42release them as separate figures, but it seems, more times than not, when it comes
13:46to two characters that are so tied together like this, think of Loomis, think
13:49of Laurie, a character like that, when it comes to Jack and David Kessler, you know,
13:53they're best friends through what little they have of their life. Jack had
13:56probably died a little earlier. A little benefit. He benefited better, I think, from
13:59dying earlier into the film, but the fact we finally get ourselves a two-pack
14:03release of Jack and David, they're nice-looking figures. They're gonna go
14:06exceptionally nicely on the shelf, along with the Kessler Wolf we've already had
14:09a look at. I knew I forgot something. NECA had also, obviously, released an
14:14American Werewolf in London Ultimate Nightmare Demon figure that we also
14:17looked at here on this channel. I'm still hoping, down the road, to get at least a
14:21couple more of those, because they also had quite stellar-looking head sculpts, a
14:24totaling of four. Now, to go back, obviously, to this one, the hardest thing
14:28also, when it comes to NECA and all the stuff that they do when it comes to
14:31these Ultimate releases, packing as much as they do, it's hard to really
14:35always decide as to which way you want to display the figure. I like, for example,
14:39the look of Jack, but I also like the way he looks in a decayed state. So, leading
14:43me off, so down the road, I'm probably wanting to pick up a second set of these,
14:45so I can have both the figures represented, as at the beginning of this
14:49review, and the way that you're seeing it at the end, as well. The American
14:52Werewolf in London Ultimate Jack Goodman and David Kessler should be available
14:56right now, either in retail stores or online. Let me know if you guys have had
15:00the chance to pick this set up, and if you have, how do you have Jack displayed?
15:04Let me know down below. A big thank you, again, to the folks over at NECA Toys
15:08that did provide the sample, again, of the American Werewolf in London Ultimate
15:11Jack Goodman and David Kessler, while he's still at least a human. Of course,
15:15let me also know down below in the comments section, if you'd like to see me
15:19go back and look at that, and revisit that Kessler Werewolf again. I'm chomping
15:23at the bits, probably not chomping on the bit as much as Werewolf Kessler was, but
15:27I'm certainly wanting to go back and maybe revisit that figure again. If you
15:31guys, in the meantime, though, backtracking a bit, like the video you
15:34just finished watching, why not hit it with a like? You guys want to stick
15:36around for more, so I hope so. You can hit the subscribe, you can turn on the bell,
15:40and, of course, you can always, always come back. As always, thanks for watching. See
15:46you guys next time.
