00:00Previously, on The Apprentice.
00:12You're going to present to my trusted advisors.
00:16Business plans.
00:17I have a lot more icons than ingorns.
00:19I was a little bit spendy happy on that.
00:21You can't be running a business and be spendy happy.
00:24And candidates.
00:26When I've asked you just the simplest question, you don't know.
00:29Got picked apart.
00:31I've wanted to smack you over the face to wake you up.
00:33Where's the passion? Come on.
00:35This is actually worse than childbirth.
00:37In the boardroom.
00:38I'm only interested in a big business.
00:40Grania's makeup school.
00:42Oh, you're not even qualified yet?
00:43No.
00:44Didn't make the grade.
00:46I just can't see this. You're fired.
00:48Jessica's clothing company was out of fashion.
00:51It's a very, very risky idea. You're fired.
00:54And Francis.
00:56All your invoices and bills go into your handbag.
00:58Ran out of chances.
01:00You're fired.
01:01Me too.
01:02Now it's Alana versus Courtney.
01:05You're the one person standing in my way of £250,000.
01:08This investment is mine.
01:10One will become Lord Sugar's business partner.
01:216am.
01:28Good morning.
01:29Lord Sugar will meet you at City Hall.
01:31The cars will be leaving in 20 minutes.
01:33Cheers, thank you.
01:34For the finalists...
01:36We're going to City Hall.
01:38..it's head-to-head.
01:40Quick slash and dash.
01:42I'm slightly apprehensive going into the pitch.
01:44It's something I do get nervous doing.
01:47However, I want Lord Sugar to be my business partner
01:49because I believe he can help take me to that next level.
01:53Throughout the process, I've struggled
01:55because people have put me down.
01:57This is all about me and I know my stuff,
02:00so I think it will be all right.
02:18City Hall.
02:20London's political powerhouse.
02:23And location for Lord Sugar's final showdown.
02:39Good morning.
02:40Good morning, Lord Sugar.
02:42Welcome to City Hall.
02:44As you are aware, a lot of big decisions are made in this hall.
02:48I've got to make a very big decision.
02:50I've got to decide which one of you
02:52is going to win my £250,000 investment.
02:57This is your last opportunity to convince me it should be you.
03:02So for your final task, I want you to launch your businesses.
03:06You need to brand your company
03:08and then in a few days' time, you're going to be coming back in here
03:11and you're going to be pitching to me and 200 industry experts.
03:16Now, I've got a lot to do,
03:18so I've arranged a few people to come and help you.
03:29So, ladies first, why don't you choose one of these ex-candidates?
03:34I'd like Gronja, please.
03:39Er, Jessica, please.
03:42Frances, please.
03:44Karthik.
03:46I'd like Rebecca, please.
03:48Sofiane.
03:54And Oliver, please.
04:00Paul, I was going to choose you anyway, mate.
04:03Dream team!
04:05Now, Alana, you already run a small bakery company.
04:10Well, I will need convincing that your new business
04:13can grow into a giant brand.
04:16And Courtney, you're going to need to convince me
04:19that you can design and sell novelty stuff in very big volume
04:23if you want me to invest £250,000.
04:27So I'll see you in a few days' time.
04:29Good luck and off you go.
04:33Good luck, Alana.
04:37Two days to prove plans can become profitable partnerships.
04:43Congratulations!
04:45I'm so glad you guys are back.
04:47I'm so glad you chose us.
04:50I am aware that I've chosen very big personalities and characters as well,
04:54so I think that could play into my advantage
04:56if I can show Lord Sugar that I can lead.
04:59I'm just wondering how many people saw their friends
05:02and just started picking their friends.
05:04We know that Courtney and Jessica are quite close
05:06and that was his first decision.
05:08Is that a big decision or is that a personal decision?
05:10First, for both finalists, put their plans to the troops.
05:14For those of you who don't know, it's a cake manufacturing business.
05:18Where is it produced, Alana?
05:20It's in West Wales, so it's like a very country kitchen.
05:23Can we taste them? Help yourself, guys.
05:25What would you recommend? Oh, my gosh!
05:27Alana, the quality is out of this world. They're amazing, Alana.
05:30I feel like there's a lot to do, but I've managed to get everyone I wanted.
05:34I've got branding, I've got food, I've got organisation
05:38and I've got grogna.
05:42Briefing his team.
05:44So these are my own products. Yours? Oh, this is so cool.
05:47Novelty gift designer, Courtney.
05:49The ice cream scoop was my first product.
05:52It was the idea that I could melt hearts with ice cream on Valentine's Day.
05:57So Lord Sugar's set me the task to show him
06:00I can sell huge volumes of each product.
06:03Do you want to set up your own online store?
06:06That's definitely an area that we want to push.
06:09Lord Sugar will want to be looking to make money fast and quickly.
06:14Next, a big company.
06:16The brand name needs to be fun, cheeky.
06:19Needs a bold new name.
06:21I can give you some ideas that I've just had.
06:23Bingo Bongo or Ringo Dingo.
06:27I mean, are these items all pocket-sized?
06:30Yeah, just small bags. Pocket pleasures?
06:33Pocket pleasures?
06:35I'm trying to listen to what's being said
06:37and I just don't like anything that's being said.
06:40I'm going to jot up some of the names and then we can try and brainstorm.
06:43I just had the idea of Bonkers Conkers.
06:45No, I don't want to sound like the fun police,
06:48but maybe I need to be a little bit.
06:51Genuinely, I think Courtney really needs to up his game now.
06:55Bingo Bongo, Billy Bingo, whatever.
06:57They're rubbish. They're complete rubbish.
06:59I want him to really grab a hold of it and win. I do.
07:03Do you honestly believe that there's a global brand sitting on that wall?
07:06Because I don't.
07:10Aiming for a distinctive brand name?
07:12Gooey's a really nice word.
07:14It gets across the feeling you're getting when you're eating those cakes.
07:17Alana's team.
07:18Your peanut butter's quite rich, isn't it?
07:20It's ridiculously rich, yeah.
07:21Ridiculously rich. I like the way you said that.
07:24Ridiculously rich?
07:25Ridiculously rich. When you said it, it sounded really cute.
07:28Why would you want your brand to be ridiculously?
07:31What about Oh My Bake?
07:33Oh, I like that.
07:34You know your USPs?
07:36That you are quality and luxury.
07:40Ridiculously rich has that in it.
07:43Next, assign roles.
07:45There's the logo. Obviously, Rebecca's going to be coming along to that.
07:49Absolutely.
07:50As regards to a sub-team, I'd want to put Jessica in charge of that,
07:54and then Paul and Sofiane will be with you.
07:57OK, brilliant.
07:58So get on with that, and then call me once you've got some more information.
08:01Courtney's put Jessica as sub-team leader in charge of Paul and Sofiane.
08:05Well, the last time I saw them work together, it was a disaster.
08:08Neither would listen to the other and ended up in a huge row.
08:11Let's hope, for Courtney's sake, they don't play those games.
08:1511am.
08:16Good luck.
08:17See you later.
08:18Half the team head off to create a digital sign.
08:22We need to get this really, really eye-catching and different.
08:26I think, you know, between me and you, we can be eye-catching.
08:30Soho.
08:35For Courtney's team, a novel approach.
08:38This ten-second video needs to be really, really fun, so...
08:41You've got costumes, banana costume, burger costume, there's sausage costume.
08:45I think if we get fancy dress, it's going to be a job.
08:47I think it's going to novelty. Yeah, I do.
08:49I think we should have us messing about with a lot of different things.
08:52Give us the footage to edit. Yeah, I agree.
08:55Just random, I don't want it to be constructive, but then it looks wrong.
08:59I don't like the idea of fancy dress.
09:00I understand what you're saying, but we're not going for it.
09:02We've got limited time, let's just get on with it.
09:04Obviously, Paul and Sophie Ann, very big personalities,
09:07they both like to bicker.
09:08I've got vision, I'm visualising this as a video.
09:11You've been asked to do something, you're not even doing that.
09:14My strategy to manage Paul and Sophie Ann,
09:16I'm going to try to rein it in and...
09:20Sophie Ann, look, you're distracting, it's going off course.
09:22I think I'm doing a good job of it.
09:24I'm managing two idiots now. Of course I am.
09:27OK, so cut. I think we've made quite a vibrant, colourful video.
09:35You know the Alana, Me And You note? Yeah.
09:37How do you think she's going to get on with Rebecca?
09:40Sometimes Rebecca's very good at going off track.
09:43I'm thinking something's great when it's not. Yeah.
09:47Back at base.
09:49The way you go, they're ridiculously rich, they're tasty, they're gooey.
09:53When you said it, I went, oh!
09:55Alana's team cook up her cake brand.
09:57You were describing your cake. Yeah.
09:59And those are the kind of words that really engage people.
10:02Ridiculously rich is quite good.
10:04I'm going to go with ridiculously rich.
10:06The problem about the name they've chosen, Ridiculously Rich,
10:09is it has no unique selling point.
10:11What Lord Sugar is looking for is something that really stands out,
10:14is going to make really big sales.
10:16And at the moment, I can't see how Lord Sugar's going to invest in her.
10:19Can we put the cake stand underneath the writing?
10:22I think that looks really nice.
10:26Mid-afternoon.
10:31What time do you have to go home?
10:33Still with no name for his novelty business, Courtney.
10:38You know, I like the idea of lightbulb.
10:41Lightbulb sounds a bit obvious,
10:43maybe brightbulb or brightbulb moments.
10:47Brightbulb moments.
10:49Courtney hasn't been particularly decisive.
10:51He's very focused on the name.
10:53He's not actually thinking about the overall task
10:55and what needs to be done.
10:57Cheeky moments? Instead of saying the word cheeky,
10:59I'd rather use a character that is regarded as cheeky,
11:02like a monkey or a llama.
11:05He needs to prove that he can design great products
11:08and he can sell them in huge volumes.
11:10Or God help him at the presentation.
11:12What's your favourite animal?
11:13Whale.
11:14And what's your favourite colour?
11:15Purple. There we go.
11:17Well, you decide, right?
11:18Yeah. Purple whale.
11:20In a short space of time,
11:22I don't know if you're able to draw, like, a little whale.
11:26It shouldn't be too ambitious.
11:28Something like that?
11:29You know what, I just have to go with it.
11:31It is what it is.
11:32Can you sell it in your bitch?
11:34I'm going to need to sell it.
11:35OK.
11:36Next into the studio...
11:38Hello.
11:39Hiya. How are you?
11:40How are you doing?
11:41Ridiculously rich.
11:43The main products are these.
11:45Alana doesn't make cupcakes, so she's dressed as a cupcake.
11:48Chef Gráinne comes in and doesn't approve.
11:50I'm going to throw this over her.
11:53Do I scream luxury?
11:55Definitely not.
11:56I know it's luxury,
11:57but we're trying to put a little bit of fun element into this.
11:59Mm, no time for cupcakes.
12:01Come try our ridiculously rich cakes.
12:04Mm.
12:066.30pm.
12:08Hiya. Hi there.
12:10To help pitch Purple Whale, Courtney seeks out coaching.
12:15I'd say I'm a confident person.
12:17However, when put in the limelight, I get a bit nervous.
12:22So what we're going to do is just try and get you to let go a little bit.
12:26I've seen Courtney pitch and it's not a pretty sight
12:29because he's incredibly nervous and he has no presence.
12:33He really needs this coaching because he really needs the pitch to go well.
12:37We're going to do one thing now which...
12:41..which might be a bit weird.
12:43Energetically, how does this change you?
12:46I feel more open. I feel that I can see more.
12:49So just explore a little humming sound.
12:52HUMMING
12:55The worst thing for me to have in that pitch is to get nervous and start hesitating.
13:00Just warn you, I'm going to put my hands around your waist. Off you go.
13:03Hopefully, I can come across a lot better to the audience,
13:06the business advisers and Lord Sugar.
13:08Hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Courtney Wood.
13:11I now sell my product range into 17 different countries
13:14through a network of five distributors.
13:16OK, excellent. Go back to that point. Do it again.
13:21Who wouldn't want to stop to see what's going on?
13:23I'm throwing flour in your face, for God's sake.
13:25Finishing off their digital sign...
13:27I like it. ..Granja and Frances.
13:30You've got the logo, so we can have a look.
13:35That is not Alana.
13:37Oh, I don't know who's come up with this.
13:39It's like the Women's Institute or something.
13:41Ridiculously shite.
13:42Well, if they wanted to get ridiculously into it, they've definitely done that.
13:45But this, to me, is Rebecca's influence.
13:47This is not Alana's personality, to me.
13:49She is going to have to change this.
13:51Phone her.
13:54Hi, Alana. Hi, you all right?
13:57So, we've just seen your logo.
13:59What do you think, Alana? What do you think? What do you think?
14:02What do you mean, what do I think? It was my decision.
14:05OK, we just...
14:07I just... I hope it does work.
14:10I just had me doubts about it, to be honest.
14:13What are you feeling that you are going to achieve
14:15by digging something out that we've already created?
14:18What are you hoping to achieve?
14:21Guys, we've got to be behind Alana on this.
14:23This is her bread and butter of a business.
14:25We just wanted to tell you, OK, you've gone with your brand.
14:28Fair enough, OK.
14:30What have you guys been up to?
14:32We have come up with a concept on the interactive board.
14:35There is Frances standing in a cupcake outfit, first of all, right?
14:39Did you say something about cupcakes?
14:41No, we're saying we don't have time for cupcakes.
14:44No, we're saying we don't have time for cupcakes.
14:47No, we're saying we don't have time for cupcakes.
14:49We don't have time for cupcakes.
14:51And then we're introducing your ridiculously rich...
14:53Homemade luxury cakes.
14:55So there's no-one in a cupcake outfit?
14:57Fran is in a cupcake outfit, but then she's put out of shot.
15:00We have to go, bye, bye, bye, bye.
15:02She didn't take that well, did she? No.
15:05No, she didn't take that well at all.
15:09She's going to hate this, you know. I have a feeling.
15:1310pm.
15:15That's the logo. Oh, I love the logo.
15:17I think they've done a good job, haven't they?
15:19Just 15 minutes before work must stop.
15:22What was the strap line?
15:24Want a little gift, make a big impression.
15:26Small, like, smaller tights. Yeah, let's go for that one. Yeah.
15:29I look at that and I'm bored.
15:31Right, you're really missing the point, Safiyan.
15:33No, I think you're missing the point.
15:35Trust me, I've got it.
15:37We're going to place this in a popular area.
15:39This is getting really, really childish now.
15:41I think we're over-complicating. I agree with Paul.
15:44Is this campaign going to wow some people
15:47that really know what business is all about?
15:49Oh, God, it just looks really bad.
15:51It is weird, isn't it?
15:53God, I'm mortified.
15:55I actually don't think we've helped him.
15:57I'm just pissed off.
15:59Bottom line, I'm pissed off.
16:089am.
16:10Good morning, guys. How did yesterday go?
16:14Yeah, it went all right, didn't it?
16:16Yeah, it was good.
16:18Stressful? Yeah, it was.
16:20It was kind of like agree and disagree.
16:23You know, we came out with something at the end.
16:26Do you want to show me it? Let's have a look.
16:35And that's the back.
16:38You've just made it clear, clean, simple.
16:41And I'm really pleased that you guys have done that.
16:43Oh, I'm glad you like that.
16:45Right, I really want to see what you've made.
16:48No time for cupcakes.
16:50Come try our ridiculously rich cakes.
16:55Are you goons?
16:57Oh, I like it. Well done.
16:59I'd just like to say, if I came across like,
17:02I wasn't keen yesterday, I'm very sorry, it's really good.
17:06But when you're describing someone dressed in a cupcake suit
17:09with flour being chucked in their face,
17:11your mind wanders a little.
17:15Today, both teams must create TV ads.
17:18Right, so the advert is, it's a lady coming into a cafe,
17:22every day she's buying one of my cakes.
17:24But what we need to put across
17:26is cakes that people come back for time and time again.
17:29The TV advert needs to be fun.
17:31It's all about keeping it cheeky.
17:33Are you guys happy working together on the advert again?
17:37I'd like to swap, if I could. OK.
17:39I'm cool with that.
17:41Sofiane, I know you're good at directing,
17:43so that's what I want you to focus on.
17:45However, Jessica will be in charge,
17:47and she has the final say on it.
17:50It's happening again. He wants Jessica to lead the whole advert.
17:54So I'm going to make it very clear that today is my day.
17:57Let me give you my best ideas, and we need to use them.
18:00And it's for Courtney's best interest.
18:08So I'm excited to have the dream team!
18:11I think we're going to have loads of fun today.
18:13One thing I'm really conscious of,
18:15we've literally got about three hours to shoot this video.
18:18We've got plenty of time, we just need to...
18:20But we don't, like... We need to have the idea very straight.
18:23It's not going to take 20 minutes talking about it.
18:25No, it wouldn't. Let's try that. Boom, done.
18:27Do you know what? If you think we should do it,
18:29and it just rolls off the camera, we need to do it.
18:31Farringdon. Hi, Maureen. Lovely to see you again.
18:34Don't say Maureen. Why? It's totally unnecessary.
18:37Bringing character to Alana's cakes.
18:39Who do you know that is my age and called Maureen?
18:42I know people your age and my age that are called things like Carol.
18:45First-time director, Frances.
18:48It just sounds like we're making a joke of it.
18:50This isn't a joke for Alana.
18:51Oh, my God, are we honestly standing here arguing over a meal?
18:54Be that Maureen.
18:56Smile.
18:58That's Maureen.
19:00Hi, Maureen. How are you? I'm here to collect the cakes.
19:03And cut.
19:04There's something missing compared to yesterday that we had
19:06that you can't even word, do you know what I mean?
19:08Did you see it on...? You saw it on camera, do you know what I mean?
19:11Honestly, truly, I feel like her brief was,
19:13her cakes need to be luxury, they need to be high-end
19:15and bring a story round it.
19:17How do we make that story have more...?
19:19We need to have more energy on camera, really more...
19:22Today, it seems any sort of cheesiness or funness we try to put into it,
19:26it's very dampened by Rebecca.
19:28Just cos it's luxurious doesn't mean it has to be dull.
19:31Right, I want personality. Be Maureen.
19:34I am Maureen. Action.
19:36What are you fancying today? Can I have a quick rocky road, please?
19:39Of course you can. Thank you. Go, my dear. I'm sure I'll see you again soon.
19:42Oh, you will. I'll be back next week. See you later. Bye!
19:45I loved that.
19:49North London.
19:51So you've got a husband and wife, it's their anniversary.
19:54Location for Purple Whale's epic tale.
19:57The husband's forgot the anniversary.
20:00He orders some love-heart ice-cream scoops,
20:02then he presents them to his wife, everything's happy,
20:05that's the basic concept.
20:07So you walk in and you shut the door.
20:10So you just walked home? That's it.
20:12OK, cool, let's get on with it, then, yeah? Do it for you, go on.
20:15It's fine, it's fine, it's fine.
20:17Do you remember what we said about let's not get the perfect...
20:20This is one second. Three, two, one, action!
20:22Sophie, I know, will think he's in charge of this TV advert.
20:25However, I'm going to take charge
20:27and I'm going to make sure that Courtney is going to be proud of the video.
20:30All we want to shut off, Alex, is me passing Karthik the card.
20:34Do you want to say to him, do you know what day it is?
20:36No, I don't want to say it. He wants it to be cheeky, remember?
20:39I'll say it, I'll say it. He said cheeky.
20:41So what you do, you go from smiling... Let's move, let's move, let's move.
20:44..into, like, a shocked face, you go... I think he knows what he's doing. Yeah?
20:47Happy anniversary, honey bun.
20:50OK, right, next scene, Sophie Anne.
20:52Why doesn't he be on his phone ordering from Purple Whale?
20:55Action. Hello, Purple Whale?
20:58Could I order something really quickly, please?
21:00Action.
21:01You melt my heart just like this ice cream is melting.
21:05Happy anniversary.
21:07Lunchtime. Packaging brainstorm.
21:10We're lacking a little bit about your USP behind your phone.
21:14What's going to really make you stand out?
21:17For Alana, a branding rethink.
21:19I'm trying to think of something to make you different.
21:22Gluten-free or... It's not gluten-free.
21:24I know it's not gluten-free.
21:26Maybe having the Welsh flag or something.
21:30To go, I don't know.
21:31All I'm suggesting is just about what is, yeah,
21:34the uniqueness of you and your humble beginnings and where it all began.
21:39You could have on the box, you could have, like, my signature.
21:44It's your seal of approval. Yeah. Yeah. I like that.
21:48The penny has finally dropped
21:50and Alana has recognised that what is unique about her product is her.
21:54It's Alana. But given the pitches tomorrow,
21:56they are beginning to run out of time.
21:58They've got an awful lot of work to do today
22:00in order to put it all together and make it great.
22:02We want to redesign the logo. Ridiculously Rich by Alana.
22:07Get rid of the cake stand and put in a bit of ownership.
22:13God, it is a bit better, isn't it?
22:16South London.
22:18Aiming to pitch a new novelty gift tomorrow, Courtney.
22:22The product that I'm thinking of doing is like a baby sippy cup.
22:26Yeah. A bit like a beaker but it's got two handles
22:29and it looks like a little trophy or a cup so that the kid's a winner.
22:32So it looks like he's lifting it up and going, yeah, yeah,
22:34but then he can go... Oh, I like it.
22:36And also I feel like it has an underlying message
22:38of maybe that I'm wanting to be the winner.
22:40Yeah, I'm a winner, yeah. I'm going to create a winning baby product.
22:45Next stop, a leading design and prototype agency.
22:49Maybe we can have a little base that you can store little snacks in there
22:53and then we can also add it so that you can put football badges on that
22:57and then we can sell them to football teams
23:00and just another commercial side of the product.
23:03This prototype has to convince Alan that he has ideas that will sell.
23:07But this is a flooded market.
23:09He's come up with a sippy cup idea.
23:11Is that original enough? Is that unique enough?
23:14Does it make this business investable enough? I don't know.
23:18OK, that's looking great. I'm really pleased with how that's come out.
23:21What do you think, Paul? Yeah, I like it. I like it.
23:251.30pm.
23:27Erm...
23:28Deadline for cake packaging looming.
23:30Let's go with description, chocolatey biscuit fudge filling
23:33and a chocolatey topping.
23:34A last-minute change of plan.
23:37I'm going to leave it in Oliver's capable hands
23:40Thank you very much. Oliver, is everything all right?
23:43One quick question.
23:44What do you think of the Welsh dragon with hand-made...
23:47No, cos I'm putting some text on the back
23:49that says about it being made in Wales.
23:52OK.
23:55Packaging handed over.
23:57Alana's next stop, the TV advert.
24:00I mean, it's a tough decision I need to make.
24:03I was thinking, because of USP,
24:05I was thinking of having maybe the Welsh dragon on the front
24:09with the dragon then hand-made in Wales to the left,
24:12if that could be encompassed on...
24:15OK, I mean, did she want that?
24:18Well, I think the customer...
24:20I'm just trying, cos not all of the customers will see it.
24:23And if somebody sees hand-made in Wales, it could go...
24:26Yeah, it's quite important.
24:28Well, we could go with that, then, if that's what you think.
24:324pm.
24:33Happy anniversary, Honeybun.
24:36LAUGHTER
24:38Editing their TV ad, Courtney's team.
24:47I thought Courtney's business was an online shop,
24:51not a phone-up mail-order business.
24:54Why isn't he ordering it online?
24:58I think the thought process behind it, a lot of people,
25:02rather than the laptop, really.
25:08Hi. Hi, Courtney, you OK?
25:10Yeah, good, thank you. How's it going, your end?
25:12Yeah, it's going really good.
25:14Pretty much exactly what you wanted.
25:16Well, actually, yeah, it's, like, 95% exactly what you wanted.
25:19What's the other 5% that's different?
25:21I'm just going to put you on to Sophie.
25:23Courtney, so, basically, the initial idea was...
25:26Someone makes a phone call and he's talking to your company.
25:31There was no point where this was ever a mail-order, phone-order product.
25:35It's always been an online product from the concept.
25:38OK, can you just say, order online?
25:40And then do it tapping the phone.
25:42All right, mate. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
25:44Cheers, bye. Bye-bye. Bye.
25:46I know. I know, you can't do nothing now, so, you know,
25:49don't focus on it, but, obviously... Yeah.
25:51..you didn't need that.
25:53I feel a bit for Courtney.
25:54He's given complete trust to the sub-team to produce the advert.
25:58He's relied on them and I think, in some respects, they've let him down.
26:02Show me typing into the phone and show me saying yes.
26:04Yes. So I've done it online.
26:06Perfect, yeah. Movie magic.
26:10Just one hour left...
26:12Hi, Laurie!
26:14..to add Alana's signature approach to Ridiculously Rich.
26:18Hello.
26:20Hi! Oh, my God!
26:22OK, so, brand change, logo's changed, I've put my name in it.
26:27Ridiculously Rich by Alana and it's signed by me.
26:29Well done, Alana. Right decision.
26:31Well done.
26:32We need to do a little bit of filming here now with me
26:35and you need to edit that in. I know it's loads of stress.
26:38Maybe have me at the beginning as a voiceover and then at the end...
26:41OK. ..me speaking straight into the camera.
26:43Right, so let's get this done then. I need to shoot off.
26:45OK, yeah. Go.
26:46We can create cakes for your cafes and your delis.
26:49We concentrate on making our products homemade and luxury
26:52and we use the finest Belgian chocolate in all our products.
26:55Perfect. Yeah? OK. Got to go.
26:57Right, let's start editing. Bye!
26:59Good luck. Bye.
27:01I'm so glad she's changed that logo.
27:03Me and you made it clear to her yesterday that we didn't like it.
27:068pm.
27:08Do you think that would work? This sort of orangey?
27:11Left in sole charge of Alana's packaging...
27:14There's so much choice as well. Erm...
27:16..Oliver.
27:18Right, I feel, Adam, that we should...
27:22Yeah.
27:24Let's see what we've got here.
27:26I am slightly... I'm not going to lie, I am a bit panicked.
27:30You know, this is almost...
27:32..my time to shine,
27:35but I'm also now on the centre stage
27:38and I'm feeling a little bit...
27:42..a little bit concerned.
27:48There we go. 9am.
27:50Wow, guys, here it is.
27:52Today, the finalists present their companies to Lord Sugar.
27:56Oh, my gosh! I love it!
27:59That is incredible. I love it. I love it!
28:02Works well with the orange. It's so good!
28:04I wanted to go for the Providence. Overruled!
28:07And I thought, you know, you're from Wales, it's home, you know.
28:10That's what they love. Pretty, isn't it? Very well done.
28:12I think you've done a really good job. Very lovely. Well done, Oliver.
28:15But first, a chance to test the products.
28:18But first, a chance to test their new brands on the public.
28:22I want you to do the consumer testing
28:24and then feed me back any information
28:26and then, yeah, I can try and put that into my pitch this afternoon
28:30and then hopefully be crowned the winner.
28:34Teams dispatched...
28:35Pitching has to be two things.
28:37It has to be educational and it has to be entertaining.
28:39..for the finalists' last-minute pitch preparation.
28:44The only thing that makes me real nervous
28:46is that I'm pitching 250 people and what is at stake?
28:52Talk like you're talking to me. OK. Right.
28:5417 years... Hold on.
28:57OK. Breathe. Start again.
29:00Hello, everyone. I'm Alana and I'm the founder of Ridiculously Rich.
29:03It's so hard, it's so hard, it's so hard. It's not, it's not.
29:06Back to the start.
29:10East London.
29:12Oh!
29:13Time to see if Purple Whale makes a splash.
29:18What sort of company would you say this is?
29:20Photographic company.
29:21If you was to just see this on its own, does that pass the message?
29:24The actual name of it doesn't tell you what you do.
29:27OK. Purple Whale, I don't get it.
29:29OK. I have to read the small print.
29:31I think it should be a little bit more bigger.
29:33What do you think of the colour? It stands out there.
29:35If you look around here, there's not much purple,
29:37so I'd say it's probably a good colour.
29:4012 o'clock.
29:42For the finalists, pitch pending.
29:46The biggest worry for me is that I go on in front of them all
29:50and just go blank.
29:52No, you're not going to go blank.
29:54You're going to nail it. Yeah. You are.
29:57Aren't you? I'm going to nail it.
29:59You'll be fine. You'll be absolutely fine.
30:01And you know what? I'm there next to you.
30:03I may be on the laptop, but at least you have a friend next to you.
30:06You have already won this task for preparing that amazing product
30:09with your history, with your business plan and, you know, the video.
30:13So I think you've already won it. This is just the culmination of it.
30:16Go in with that and the fact that you just have to be better than Alana,
30:19you will get it. You will win it.
30:22West London.
30:26Oh, that's amazing!
30:28Guys, this is excellent. It's so funny.
30:30Alana's team seek feedback for the pitch.
30:33If there were two words to sum up how that looked...
30:36Tasty. Yeah. That's expensive. Oh, right.
30:40Rich, it sounds out. Yeah. Busy, though.
30:43It's a lot on one circle. OK. Mm-hm.
30:46Could you see that on a supermarket shelf?
30:48I can, but I wouldn't really look twice at that.
30:51Right, guys, I think that that was really positive feedback.
30:54There's been some good constructive criticism as well.
30:58City Hall.
31:01Landmark for London.
31:05Today, pitch location for Lord Sugar's finalists.
31:12This is where you're going to win it.
31:16How are you feeling? Are you feeling nervous?
31:18You would be human if you wasn't nervous at the thought of giving a pitch.
31:22Remember, the fight's not one-on-one.
31:25Oh, my God, my heart's racing already.
31:27I am so passionate about the products that I create
31:31that when people ask, what's your USP?
31:34I say, me.
31:40I'm sorry, I'm really, like, getting over panicking.
31:44Here they are. There.
31:46I'm going to be honest, I'm really, like, panicking.
31:49I'm going to be honest, I'm really, like, panicking.
31:52Here they are.
31:53First, a chance to filter through the feedback.
31:57I'm fully prepared.
31:58I just want to try and get some information from you guys,
32:00see if I can add that in.
32:01Yeah.
32:02Did you find out much this morning?
32:03Yeah, we did.
32:04We found out that everyone liked the colour purple.
32:06They said it was different,
32:07there's not really many brands out there using that colour purple.
32:10In terms of reading the logo, purple,
32:12well, they didn't understand what it is,
32:14but then the tagline, little gifts, big impressions,
32:17that kind of gives them a little idea of what industry it's in.
32:20But the only thing they said on that
32:22is the tagline could have been slightly bigger.
32:24With Purple Whale, you wanted to do something
32:26that people didn't really get, so they'd look into it more,
32:28and I felt from today's research, that's what you've done.
32:30Well, thanks for the info.
32:31That's what's hopefully going to win me that investment.
32:33It is. Hopefully it is.
32:34I think what's really important is that we've stressed to her
32:37that the core of the consumers loved it.
32:39Obviously, there were negatives in them,
32:41but I just think it's just now about building her up.
32:45Hi. Hi.
32:46Hi, there.
32:47Hi, you.
32:48How'd it go?
32:49Loved it.
32:50Fantastic.
32:51They loved it.
32:52They loved the packaging.
32:53Really? Yeah.
32:54And it hit the luxury market, so that's covered.
32:56Brilliant.
32:57I know this sounds really bad, but anything bad?
32:59It was just all positive.
33:104pm.
33:15Settling in.
33:17Top names from British industry,
33:20including experts from the worlds of giftware and baking.
33:30I started my parents' little country kitchen in West Wales.
33:35Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
33:37My name is Courtney Wood, and today I'd like to present to you...
33:40Lovely. ..Purple Whale.
33:48Good.
33:50We're in place.
33:54Hoping to treat the experts to a tasty pitch, Alana Spencer.
34:01This literally means everything to me now.
34:06Everything I've done since I was 17
34:08has been leading up to this one huge moment.
34:14Hello, everyone.
34:15Hello, everyone.
34:16I'd like to introduce you to my brand, Ridiculously Rich.
34:20I started when I was 17 years old
34:23in my parents' little country kitchen in Wales.
34:29But this business can be a huge nationwide business.
34:34I've got six core products
34:38that I think you've all had a selection to taste.
34:43So these aren't in no way limiting me,
34:48but these are the ones that I've worked on and absolutely perfected.
34:52They are luxury and they're homemade,
34:54and my secret recipes are...
34:57Well, they're just that, they're secret recipes.
35:01So what makes me different to all of the other people out there?
35:05And I genuinely believe that that is, that's me.
35:08So how do I see the business growing?
35:11It's a three-pronged attack, essentially.
35:13There's the food festival and the event side,
35:15which is the side of my business that I know like the back of my hand.
35:19Then there is the cafes, delis, anywhere that sells a coffee
35:23will also be selling Ridiculously Rich cakes.
35:26Finally, I propose the same products to go into retail
35:31in individual portions,
35:33and this is what you've got in front of you here.
35:35So how do I see the growth of production itself?
35:39I propose to outsource the production of my products.
35:43OK, so I'd like to show you the little lads that I've worked on now.
35:47I'm Alana and I established my company, Ridiculously Rich.
35:51We concentrate on making our products homemade and luxury
35:54and we use the finest Belgian chocolate in all our products.
35:57Ridiculously Rich, cakes so good
35:59they'll keep your customers coming back for more.
36:03Hey, I put some new shoes on
36:05and everybody's smiling,
36:07so I'm riding low.
36:11I'd just like to say this is something that I know
36:14100% I can make a success.
36:16Thank you for listening to me
36:18and I would like to open the floor to questions.
36:21As an owner of a retail outlet,
36:23what's very important to me
36:25is to understand the price that I can buy these things for
36:29and the price that I can sell them for.
36:31It can be a pound per unit.
36:33They retail at £3 a slice,
36:35so it's a nice bit of money to be made.
36:37How will your brownies stand out from the crowd?
36:39The personal touch.
36:41If I can grow this brand so people know the brand as me,
36:44you stand out amongst the competition.
36:46The packaging is obviously very important
36:48because they need to be instantly grabbed by that.
36:51Alana, you take great pride
36:53in saying that you're made in Wales,
36:56so would this manufacturing plant be in Wales
36:59and will Wales still be part of your selling point?
37:03I mean, the Welsh thing, it's so important
37:06and I would propose to keep the production in Wales.
37:11Thank you all so much for your time. Thank you.
37:21You were brilliant.
37:22Buzzing.
37:23Buzzing!
37:24You were amazing.
37:26For Lord Sugar, expert feedback.
37:30I think artisan, handmade, luxury Wales,
37:33I think it's a terrific story,
37:35but if you went to outsourcing,
37:37you lose a sense of the personality behind it all
37:40and the personality also sells stuff.
37:42They tasted really nice.
37:44You know, it's nice with the kind of handmade in Wales,
37:47but is she going to be able to find someone that can do it in Wales?
37:50As long as she can prove that the quality is maintained,
37:52I don't think there is a major issue.
37:54In fact, I think it's probably more of a positive for my side.
37:57With designs on giving the perfect pitch,
38:01Courtney Wood.
38:05Lord Sugar has posed the question,
38:07can I build a scalable business?
38:09I hope that I can eliminate all doubt from his mind.
38:13You don't get many opportunities in life to shine
38:16and I feel that I've got this opportunity
38:18to show Lord Sugar what I'm made of.
38:21Wow.
38:23Wow.
38:32So, hello, ladies and gentlemen.
38:35I'm here today to present to you
38:37a new brand of novelty gifts, Purple Whale.
38:40I chose the name as I wanted to stand out from the crowd
38:43and I wanted to make it sound a little random.
38:45The tagline, little gifts, big impressions,
38:48that relates to the unique and quirky gifts that I've created.
38:52We've also created a television advert.
38:59Happy anniversary.
39:02Happy anniversary, Honeywell.
39:05Honey, I'm just going to get changed, all right?
39:09I'll just order something online.
39:14Hey, honey. Hi.
39:16This ice cream is melting, just like you melt my heart.
39:19Happy anniversary.
39:21Purple Whale, little gifts, big impressions.
39:26I'm pleased to hear that some of you enjoyed that.
39:29The pricing for the products that I create
39:32is usually between the £5 and £15 mark.
39:35Now, I can achieve high volumes of sales
39:38by successfully getting my products in with high street retailers
39:42and I'd be very confident I could sell 10,000 units.
39:45I also need to sell through my own website.
39:48As I'm the manufacturer of my products,
39:50I'll earn very large profit margins.
39:53I believe the keys to the success of me moving forward
39:56is building great products.
39:58I've been busy over the past 24 hours
40:00creating a trophy baby beaker
40:02that was, well, created since yesterday morning.
40:05It's designed so babies can take a sip of success
40:08with each mouthful, really.
40:10There are many options that we're looking to do with this product.
40:13Now, I know there's quite a few football fans in the room here today.
40:17I've put one of the beakers in claret and blue of West Ham for Karen
40:21and then the other one we've got in blue and white
40:24for who I think are the best team, Southend United.
40:29As you can see, that's the product
40:31that I've been able to create in a short amount of time,
40:34but I believe I've got the potential to create an even bigger range.
40:37Is there any questions anyone would like to ask?
40:40How do you plan to stop other people copying your products
40:43and taking away your identity?
40:46There is a concern, but the way to eliminate that
40:49is to actually successfully make that product for a good price.
40:54Being a product designer, but also managing this company,
40:57that's a lot of hats to wear. How are you going to manage that?
41:00I'd always be open to the idea of having someone
41:02running the business side of things for me
41:04because I do know that my core strength
41:06is actually on the creative side.
41:08Courtney, high volume comes through big retailers.
41:13I'm just wondering as to why they would be buying off of you.
41:16Retailers will be buying into the brand.
41:18They'll be buying into a trusted brand
41:20that they know create quality products
41:22and continue to bring out good, innovative ideas.
41:26I believe that's the main key to my success,
41:28is that I build unique and original products.
41:39Woo-hoo!
41:42Well done, dude. Well done.
41:45My concerns are, he's talking about £10 items.
41:49You've got to sell a hell of a load of those to run a business.
41:52The particular product he showed us was great.
41:54It was terrific. It was really well thought through.
41:56He needs a lot more of those because it's a horribly competitive,
41:59very fickle market.
42:00Novelty Gifts already is anchoring yourself
42:02in a throwaway niche market.
42:04His ideas are the currency of what he trades in.
42:06Clearly, his ideas are fantastic.
42:08I think he's a really exciting talent.
42:10You know, he needs a guiding hand.
42:16After pitching to 250 people and the pressures of today,
42:20I'm feeling good, to be honest.
42:22Yeah, it went well.
42:24Thinking going into that ballroom,
42:26I haven't got a very good chance of being Lord Sugar's business partner.
42:29I've shown Lord Sugar, if he goes into business with me,
42:32what I have to offer.
42:33It would make us both potentially ridiculously rich.
42:39Tonight, there's nothing more the candidates can do.
42:42Tomorrow, the final boardroom.
42:52You can go through to the boardroom now.
43:04Well, past candidates, welcome back.
43:07Thank you for assisting the two finalists.
43:10I'm sure that you're happy to see them through to the final.
43:14We'll start off with Courtney's team.
43:17As a matter of interest, it's always intriguing for me
43:20to understand why you chose this particular team.
43:24Yeah, I wanted everyone in my team to have strong personalities in it.
43:27Oh, you got that.
43:28Yeah.
43:29I chose Karthik due to his pitching capabilities.
43:32I felt he could help me.
43:33Also, Paul brings that kind of devil's advocate.
43:36He's critical, but it's constructive criticism.
43:39We don't charge for smiling in here, Paul, you know.
43:43So, the first thing you had to do was come up with a name.
43:46Yeah, we came up with quite a few names.
43:48I just wanted it to be different and sound random
43:50and so it would stand out, cos I make quirky, unusual gifs.
43:53Bingo, bongo, bingo, bingo, bingo, bingo, bingo.
43:57Unusual gifs.
43:58Bingo, bongo, ringo, dingo, bonkers.
44:02Is that yours, Karthik, bonkers?
44:05At one point, we had Pocket Pleasures,
44:07which would have conjured up a whole different type of business.
44:10And you ended up with...
44:12Purple Whale.
44:13Purple Whale.
44:14OK, so we've got our name.
44:16I asked you to produce billboards.
44:18Yeah, I sent the sub-team off to create the digital screen.
44:22Jessica was in charge of Paul and Sofiane.
44:26It's not a sub-team name,
44:27more like a rematch of Rumble In The Jungle on YouTube, wasn't it?
44:30I think all three of us, it was quite interesting.
44:33It was an interesting day.
44:34To be fair, I think we all pulled together
44:36and we managed to get lots of different small video clips
44:38and then we had a puppet in there just to make it a little bit more fun.
44:41Did the actual screen itself show your products?
44:44No, it didn't.
44:45No.
44:46Right.
44:47This reminds me sometimes of when creative people get carried away
44:51making television adverts and we watch them
44:54and my wife turns to me and says,
44:56what was that about? Or what are they selling?
44:59So, go on, we've got this Purple Whale, yeah?
45:02So, with the tagline, what we make is little products for around £10,
45:06so little gifts, big impressions being that if you give someone
45:08a small gift, we want it to have a big impression in their life.
45:11It's a shame you couldn't read that strapline on the billboard very well.
45:14It was quite small, wasn't it?
45:16Erm, yeah.
45:17OK, so we move on to the television advert.
45:20I wanted to make sure that Karthik was in that,
45:22and so, as well as his acting skills, that's what I wanted him to be.
45:25His acting skills.
45:26Might be a new career.
45:28Yeah.
45:29I wouldn't hold your breath, son.
45:32You'd forgotten the anniversary.
45:34To be honest, she probably doesn't want to be reminded of it
45:36and married to you, I have no doubt,
45:38but you were happy with it being a bit...
45:40Yeah, I thought that would help follow the brand and what we're trying to do.
45:43What did we do after that?
45:44On the second day, me and Paul went to a design studio
45:48to create an idea I had for a new product, which was a trophy baby beaker,
45:52so kids can pick it up and look like a winner.
45:54I wanted to show you that we can create a product
45:57that we could sell to a high street retailer.
45:59I mean, that product there is made in 12 hours.
46:02That's just stunning, and I can see that selling straight away.
46:05It would, I agree.
46:06Let's move on to the presentation. How do you think you did?
46:09It seemed like the presentation went really well.
46:11The evening before, I went and met a pitching expert,
46:14and he gave me some advice.
46:16It really helped you, didn't it?
46:17It looked good. Yeah, it looked all right to me.
46:19You didn't see Courtney when he presented the Astro Badger,
46:22when he stood on stage looking like he was about to be sick,
46:25and the difference between that and your pitch at the final,
46:29I thought, was remarkable, so very well done.
46:32So, you're very pleased to help represent him.
46:34Yeah, definitely.
46:35And surprised that he's got to this far?
46:37Not surprised.
46:38Not surprised at all.
46:39Not too much.
46:40Not too much?
46:43Well, a little.
46:44Well, I'm not there. I'm out here as well.
46:45No, we know you're not there.
46:46That's for sure. Blatantly clear.
46:49Now, Alana, why did you choose this group of people?
46:53I got everyone I wanted in my team.
46:55Rebecca is in marketing, and I needed someone that did that on my team.
46:59The two ladies, Frances and Gronja, they're just strong women.
47:02And Oliver is in the food industry, which is exactly what I want to go into.
47:06So, that's a good choice, right?
47:07Absolute wealth of knowledge, yeah.
47:08So, we've got Ridiculously Rich by Alana.
47:12That's your brand name?
47:13Yeah, we went to create the first logo after that.
47:16And, yeah, it wasn't amazing.
47:22But we decided to change it the next day, so everything was OK.
47:27You just brushed over that.
47:29Why did you change it the next day?
47:31Because I realised I wanted to be the driving force of my brand,
47:34so I wanted to actually put my name on it.
47:36And that name is the assurance to the present moment.
47:39Yeah, I like that.
47:40Which includes Alan.
47:41Yeah.
47:42That's my cross-dressing alter ego, I think.
47:45Really? Yeah.
47:48Right, good.
47:49So, let's move on to the television advert.
47:51Can I perhaps just introduce you to...
47:53Maureen.
47:54Maureen.
47:55Maureen.
47:56That was not on my instruction.
47:57That was something they took upon themselves.
47:59Yeah.
48:00The advert concept that we came up with was,
48:02if you take our cakes on board in your cafe, you'll get repeat custom.
48:07So, that's why we had the same person coming back a few times.
48:10OK, so it was deliberate then, was it?
48:12Yes.
48:13Then, halfway through the day when that brand got changed
48:15to put my name in it,
48:16I thought it was really important that I move myself over.
48:18I saw you featuring quite a lot in the advert
48:20to show that it's my company, and I think it was a good idea.
48:23OK, so, while all this was going on,
48:25you trusted young Oliver here to deal with the packaging.
48:29I told Oliver,
48:30don't make any drastic changes besides the colouring.
48:33You informed him, don't talk about wows,
48:35but he couldn't resist it and he put the dragon on there.
48:38That's a strong marketing message for Alana,
48:40and I think we should concentrate on the provenance of her brand.
48:43He did a very good job, didn't he? He did a very good job, yes.
48:46OK, so, presentation-wise, was you nervous?
48:49Yeah, I was incredibly nervous.
48:51It's the longest walk down those steps.
48:54Did you think you did OK? Yeah, I do.
48:56And I think all the questions that got thrown at me,
48:59I managed to answer well.
49:01Credible winner.
49:03Definitely. Absolutely.
49:05You can see the difference in Alana from the whole process,
49:08from week one to now,
49:09and I think a lot of people would probably be shocked
49:11at the fact that she's in it, but she deserves to be here.
49:14When she started off, she was very, very quiet.
49:16If I didn't know better,
49:17I thought someone had taken a super injunction out.
49:20Good. Well, look, thanks a lot.
49:22You've been very, very helpful to me
49:24and obviously been very helpful to the two finalists,
49:27so thanks a lot.
49:29And, well, good luck to you all.
49:36Good luck.
49:50So I'd now like to talk to you a little bit more
49:53about your individual businesses.
49:55Alana, it's day one, you've got my £250,000,
49:59you're working in your little kitchen there.
50:01Yeah. How are you going to scale that up for me?
50:03I would take myself out of the kitchen
50:05and I would be going and visiting not just the independents
50:09but larger retailers and cafes.
50:11So, Mr Cafe owner, why am I not going to say to you,
50:15well, you know, get these brownies from anybody?
50:18Yeah, I would absolutely try and grow the brand,
50:21the brand recognition.
50:22With the retail packs, which are for snacking,
50:25they're the ones that you would grab with your sandwich
50:29and they're just...
50:31So you pack them up singly like that?
50:33Yeah.
50:34And that, in my view, is how you would get your brand across.
50:36If they were drop-dead delicious
50:37and someone came in and bought one,
50:39goes back to the office and said,
50:40you've got to try these, they're great, I understand that.
50:43What I don't understand is when this is wide open
50:45sitting in a cafe somewhere.
50:47How do I know it's ridiculously rich by Alana?
50:49I would absolutely make sure that they had things to,
50:52you know, the product list,
50:54so that they can have that on their display
50:57to get the brand out there.
50:58It's a cake, isn't it?
50:59Yeah, but you...
51:00A brownie's a brownie, it's a bit of a cake.
51:02The brand that I want to put forward is exciting cakes,
51:04they're different cakes.
51:05I will be at the forefront of my brand
51:07and people will want to buy into my brand
51:09because they like what it's about.
51:11All right, well, Courtney, I heard you tell people yesterday
51:14that your pricing is between the £5 to £10 to £15, yeah?
51:18You and I have got to sell a lot of items
51:20to turn this into a big business.
51:22Yeah, it's about getting that one killer product
51:25to really bring in that money.
51:26I think this new product I've created
51:28has the potential to be a killer product.
51:30Yeah, I think this is very good.
51:32I think you'd have six months at this, right,
51:34before someone else knocks them off.
51:36I've never been short of ideas.
51:38I've got ten ideas ready for next year.
51:40I've got that planned out cos I know that's what my time constraints
51:43and my money constraints can allow me to do.
51:45Yeah, there was talk of you branding this in claret and blue,
51:48for example, for West Ham, or blue and white for Spurs.
51:51It might show a little bit of naivety.
51:53Karen would tell you that if you went to West Ham
51:55and said to them, I want to make that in West Ham colours,
51:58the first thing West Ham would say to you is,
52:00good, how much are you going to pay me?
52:02I don't know, what would you say, Karen?
52:04£20,000 upfront licensing fee?
52:06Yeah. You get some cheap clubs like Spurs
52:08and then you get some more expensive clubs
52:10like West Ham or Manchester United.
52:12Your £250,000 wouldn't go very far.
52:14OK. Well, what you've highlighted there
52:16is actually having the official brand licences.
52:18However, I could actually make that in claret and blue colours
52:21and then sell it as a generic trophy in their colour schemes.
52:24Yeah. OK, so, listen,
52:27this is a very, very important decision for me to make now,
52:30so I'm going to ask you to step outside
52:32and when you come back in, you're going to be telling me
52:35why I should be choosing you as my business partner, OK?
52:39So, off you go. See you soon.
52:41See you soon.
52:53Well, I've got a difficult task there for myself now.
52:57Both very credible candidates, both very similar dilemmas, really.
53:02It's all to do with scaling up, isn't it?
53:05I mean, what's true about Alana is she certainly knows her products.
53:09Where she struggles, Alan, is understanding how to run a business.
53:13You need a completely different skill set
53:15to running something in your mother's kitchen
53:17to going out and being a big distributor,
53:19but that's where you come in, that's where you can really help her.
53:23Courtney, I think he's got a particular skill and that is in design.
53:27He might just hit on one product that just is a killer.
53:30You ever come across a designer that's got any commercial sense?
53:33Few.
53:35He may be one of them.
53:36Well, in my case, I was also a bit of a designer,
53:39but, fortunately, I could design them
53:41and then get them into the marketplace.
53:43Perhaps he's someone else like me.
53:46PHONE RINGS
53:48Yes, Lord Sugar?
53:49OK, can you send the two of them in, please?
54:07Well, I had a talk with Karen and Claude.
54:11It's a difficult decision for me to make
54:13because it's such a valuable price.
54:16So, Courtney, I'd like you to tell me
54:18why you think you should be my business partner.
54:21I've met with the biggest high street department store
54:24and then they actually placed a big order with me last year,
54:26however, I was too small to actually fulfil that order.
54:28Really?
54:29I believe that I'm a business now and it's just ready for that growth stage.
54:32I believe with that £250,000 investment I can make it a big success
54:36and I think Alana, she's a very creative baker,
54:39however, she's not a businesswoman.
54:41To say I'm just a baker is absolutely a load of rubbish.
54:44If you compared the two of our businesses,
54:46I turn over a year less than you do,
54:49however, my profits are much higher
54:51and business, in my opinion,
54:53is all about making as much profit as you can.
54:56So, to say I'm not a businesswoman is an absolute load of rubbish.
55:00Well, I've already sold my products to five distributors across the world.
55:05I've already got my products...
55:07Five distributors across the world,
55:09whereas I sell at events every weekend,
55:11literally just one event a weekend
55:13and I turn over a profit of way more than your company does.
55:17And the margins on my products are far greater
55:21than the margin on Courtney's products.
55:23Yeah, maybe, but every time I make 3,000 products,
55:26I'd break even on the cost of development of that product
55:29so that...
55:30You can recover your tooling costs.
55:32Yeah, and so from that point on,
55:34you've then got a lot higher gross profit margin than Alana.
55:37He claims that my investment's going to aid him
55:40to bring out more products and bigger volume and bigger customers.
55:43It could potentially be bigger volume,
55:45but how many times is someone going to order a bunch of baby bottles?
55:49You might buy one.
55:50His products are very niche,
55:52whereas cakes is something that people buy as a treat, possibly every day.
55:5520 million people in the UK do buy novelty items,
55:58so I believe the market's there.
56:00OK, listen.
56:02This is a very unusual situation I have here at the moment.
56:06You're both one-man bands.
56:09Your both products are very low price.
56:12You've both got to kind of scale up, really.
56:15I have a dilemma here at the moment.
56:18Um...
56:19Alana?
56:21I fully get it that you make some great stuff.
56:25I know the margins are good
56:27and I think this one's got a lot of potential.
56:30But having said that,
56:33Courtney, manufacturing and all that type of stuff that you do
56:37is like nothing to me.
56:39I mean, I've done it all my life,
56:41so I could certainly assist in your business, no question of it.
56:46It's a tough one.
56:51Alana?
56:53The cakes, the advisers that I had yesterday said they were good stuff.
56:58And maybe you can convince people
57:02that they've got to go and buy ridiculously rich by Alana.
57:09But...
57:11people say to me, stick to what you know.
57:14In fact, I'll go as far as to say
57:17that when I didn't stick to what I know,
57:20I lost a lot of money.
57:22And that's the gamble that I've got to take.
57:26But I've got to make a decision.
57:28I've got to go with my gut feeling.
57:31So...
57:37Alana, you're going to be my business partner.
57:42Oh, my God, I will work so hard.
57:44I will 100%.
57:46I'll make it work, I'll make it happen.
57:53It's very well done. I'll catch up with you later.
58:06Well, I've got myself a great winner.
58:08But I think Courtney's a good lad,
58:10and I admire what he's achieved so far.
58:12But I think Alana's business was interesting.
58:15She's grown throughout the process.
58:17And I think that with my backing,
58:19we can turn this into a very big business.
58:33I can't believe it. I can't believe I'm the winner.
58:36It's mad.
58:38This is definitely going to change my life.
58:41If I can pull it off,
58:43it's going to be an incredible business.
58:46The future is looking bright.
