00:00Hello there, good afternoon. It's going to be a warm but very windy weekend for
00:04some of us as Storm Kathleen approaches through tonight. Ahead of that though
00:09this air of low pressure will slowly start to fill. That should ease much of
00:12the rainfall that we've seen through this morning but tonight Storm Kathleen
00:16develops to the west of the UK. So it's going to bring unseasonably windy
00:19weather but also very mild if not warm weather for the weekend. The heat's
00:23building across parts of Europe. They could see highs of 25-26 degrees here
00:28across Western Europe on Saturday and we're going to see the influence of that
00:31heat on Saturday particularly across eastern areas of England. But before then
00:35through the rest of today we've still got cold air in situ across the far
00:39north of Scotland and the rain has fallen as snow across the high ground
00:43across the Highlands and the Grampians. Temperatures will rise here through the
00:46rest of the day so snow will tend to melt over the next few hours and further
00:51south will be a mix of showers but plenty of sunshine and it's going to be
00:54fairly dry particularly considering the wet weather we've had recently. The best
00:58of the sunshine will be across eastern areas that's where the highest
01:01temperatures will be as we're sheltered from that south westerly wind as well so
01:04highs of 18 possibly 19 degrees here. A little bit cooler exposed to that rain
01:09as well as those strong fairly blustery winds across parts of Northern Ireland
01:14and Western Scotland. The next batch of rain will arrive across the southwest
01:17through this evening that pushes northwards through tonight and will turn
01:20quite heavy across Northern Ireland much of Scotland as well overnight.
01:24Elsewhere though further south should turn much drier across many areas of
01:27England and Wales by tomorrow morning. We've got a southerly wind direction the
01:31winds are really starting to pick up by tomorrow morning but it's a very warm
01:35direction as I've shown you with that air mass so it's going to be a very
01:38mild start to the day with temperatures already at 14 or 13 degrees across the
01:42south but closer to 10 degrees in the north as well. So the winds pick up
01:46throughout tonight but they'll be the strongest through Saturday daytime. These
01:50are the gusts fields you can see we'll see gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour
01:54quite widely across Irish Sea coast through the daytime on Saturday and then
01:57those strong winds will remain across northwestern areas of Scotland. As a
02:02result there is a wind warning in four parts of Northern Ireland many western
02:05areas of England Wales and Scotland as well through Saturday so there could be
02:10some travel disruption particularly if you are traveling around on Easter
02:13holidays if you're going out on any ferries or going out and about on any of
02:17the high ground that's where the winds are going to be the strongest and that's
02:20where we've got that wind warning in force through much of the day on
02:23Saturday. The rain will ease throughout the day it's still going to stay very
02:27unsettled for parts of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland in particular but
02:31further south and east you are the more likely you are to stay quite dry it's
02:35going to be a breezy day wherever you are but across eastern areas in any
02:39sheltered sunshine that's where it's going to start to feel very warm indeed
02:42so widely will be in the high teens across many areas of England and across
02:47the southeast parts of Lincolnshire parts of Norwich as well Norfolk Norwich
02:51for example could see highs of 22 degrees on Saturday that would make it
02:55the warmest day of the year so far so it's going to be quite a mixed feel from
02:59east to west through Saturday. The wind warning still in force through Saturday
03:03night so you still need to check before you travel on Saturday evening as well
03:07we'll start to see then some batches of rain arrive from the west as well to
03:11bring a more showery day on Sunday but it's going to stay fairly mild for the
03:15time of year make sure you keep up to date through the weekend with all of
