17 June - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. A real threat of thunderstorms over the next 24 hours across central and
00:05eastern areas of England, even further north and west. A quieter spell of weather is now
00:09upon us across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but even so, we will see a few showers here.
00:13The air though towards the south east is primed, high heat, high humidity. Here's your warning
00:18zone as we head through into Thursday. Anywhere across England, away from the north west and
00:22eastern parts of Wales, the greatest threats will be torrential rain, thunder, lightning,
00:26hail and also some gusty winds. They're developing through Wednesday across the Channel Isles
00:31and pushing ever northwards. Elsewhere, it's quiet evening on Wednesday across Scotland
00:36and Northern Ireland. The cloud coming and going, a few showers but also some dry and
00:40fine weather to end the day. This weather front here brings with it still the legacy
00:44of cloud but the rain has died out. But notice towards the south east, some bright echoes
00:49developing and moving ever northwards across central southern England, east Anglia, the
00:53Midlands, the south east. There's some uncertainty about the distribution of these thunderstorms.
00:58They could be slightly further north and west but there will be some heavy bursts associated
01:02with it. So after midnight, we could see some lively weather here with some torrential thundery
01:07rain. Remaining muggy here, an uncomfortable night. Elsewhere, a fresher feel to things
01:13and a brighter start to the day on Thursday. Certainly some sunshine around across Scotland,
01:17the far north west of England as well as Northern Ireland. A few showers waiting in the wings
01:21across the western periphery of Scotland. Then we run into this cloud, low misty cloud
01:26of that particularly towards the south and the remnants of those thunderstorms continuing
01:31and rumbling on across eastern counties before they clear towards the North Sea through the
01:36first part of Thursday. So Thursday will become drier. There will be a fair amount of cloud
01:42across England and Wales but even the cloud will break at times allowing some sunshine.
01:48A bit of weather across eastern Scotland, the far south of Scotland. Northern Ireland
01:52seeing one or two showers but some sunshine coming through here. And one or two more moderate
01:56showers across the far north west of Scotland. The sun comes out across west Wales, the west
02:00country, north west England. A pleasant day here, temperatures around average. But towards
02:05the south as well as the east, temperatures still above average. Still going to feel very
02:09warm here and also the humidity will rise yet again and that will trigger the risk of
02:14thunderstorms as we head into Friday. So pretty much a repeat performance. The distribution
02:19will be slightly different. Anywhere from Norfolk down towards Exeter south eastwards
02:23and again the risk will be torrential rain, thunder, lightning, hail and also some gusty
02:28winds. So stay tuned to the forecast and obviously we'll keep you posted here at the Met Office.
02:34I'll leave you now though with a summary for the next few days into the weekend. Things
02:38are relatively settled but still the threat of thunderstorms in the south east.
