00:00Hello there. Welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:04All changing to the weekend as cloud and rain and wind arrives.
00:08Before that though, the air is turning steadily colder.
00:11Let's take a look at the next 24 hours or so.
00:14This area of low pressure brought with it snow and gales.
00:17It's clearing towards the North Sea through Thursday night and into Friday.
00:21We then gain a ridge of high pressure, still some showers towards the far north and west.
00:26But the key feature of weather into Friday will be how cold it is.
00:29A widespread frost with the risk of some ice.
00:32All change though through Saturday as that weather front waits in the wings
00:36and brings with it cloud, rain and wind.
00:39For the time being, that's Thursday into Friday.
00:41You can see that driving wind.
00:43We lose the showers across eastern Scotland,
00:45but still some clipping eastern counters of England through evening and overnight.
00:49A few showers then run in across West Wales as well as Northern Ireland.
00:52And further showers are likely across the western northern periphery of Scotland.
00:57Inland though, it's going to turn really cold, bitterly cold.
01:00In the countryside, temperatures could be as low as minus 4 to minus 10 degrees Celsius
01:05across the highlands of Scotland.
01:07But that does lead into a fine start to the day on Friday.
01:10Watch out for some mists and fog patches.
01:13They will be short-lived, but certainly the risk of ice first thing.
01:16Many areas though getting away with a dry morning, a bright morning with some sunshine.
01:20A lighter breeze for a time.
01:22As the cloud slowly thickens from the west,
01:25still some showers across the north and the west of Scotland,
01:27but many areas getting away with a dry day.
01:30The sunshine turning hazy across eastern Scotland and north-west England later on in the day
01:34as the winds pick up further strength.
01:36So feeling cold under that thickening cloud.
01:39So that's the picture on Friday.
01:41Into the weekend, things look decidedly unsettled.
01:45Rain arrives from the west.
01:46The winds will pick up, so expect gales across the north and the west, particularly through Saturday.
01:51And then some heavier bursts of rain will arrive across England and Wales as we head into Sunday,
01:55with showers across the far north as well as the west.
01:58Temperatures slightly milder than what they have been,
02:00even so it will turn colder yet again across the north-west later on in the weekend.
