The preseason is underway and there is no shortage of talking points around the Boston Bruins. Joey Copponi and Rob Tocci sit down to discuss Don Sweeney's reaction to the Swayman rumors, and when Swayman will finally get his contract. Rob gives his breakdown of all the young guys that we've seen take the ice, including a hot start for Matt Poitras. Plus, the guys give their take on the Patrik Laine situation that has Leafs and Habs fans up in arms. All that, and much more!

00:00:00Welcome back to Bear with me.
00:00:19The Boston Bruins are 0-0-0 and that is good enough for first in the Atlantic, first in
00:00:24the Eastern Conference, and first in the National Hockey League.
00:00:27My name is Joey Caponni.
00:00:28That's where I taught you.
00:00:30Technically, they're 1-3-0, if you want to know that's the preseason.
00:00:34Okay, never mind.
00:00:35Moving on.
00:00:36I'm not going to.
00:00:37We are brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network
00:00:41and by Game Time Tickets, the best place to buy tickets online, sports concerts, all your
00:00:45favorite events.
00:00:46And we got some news.
00:00:47We got some stuff.
00:00:48We got games to talk about, kind of, that one of us watched.
00:00:51So I'll be telling you all about it.
00:00:53No, backwards, as I'm sure you would have guessed.
00:00:58We've got stuff.
00:00:59We've got beef, preseason beef.
00:01:03A little.
00:01:04Want to call it beef?
00:01:06Yeah.
00:01:07We've got stuff.
00:01:08We've got stuff.
00:01:09Where do you want to start with all this?
00:01:10Oh, and of course, I mean, we'll milk the Swayman thing, too, for a little bit.
00:01:14Do you want to do that at some point, too?
00:01:15I mean, it's funny, like, yes, because we're obligated to.
00:01:20But there's nothing to talk about.
00:01:22It's kind of just the same conversation that everybody's having and has been having.
00:01:26There's no news to discuss.
00:01:28No, it's we're all just, like, sharing how worried we are.
00:01:32Do you want to do that first?
00:01:34Because somebody might have clicked on it.
00:01:35Knowing me, I click baited the title of this to be like a crazy Swayman update.
00:01:40So we'll give you your crazy Swayman update.
00:01:43Nothing.
00:01:44I hate the titles.
00:01:45Nothing.
00:01:46Well, listen, nothing.
00:01:47Nothing's going on.
00:01:48I understand it.
00:01:49I understand it.
00:01:50Is it working?
00:01:51It makes me want to not click on my own video.
00:01:57I'm like, I don't care what they said.
00:01:58Oh, that was me.
00:01:59I don't click away.
00:02:00There we go, Rob.
00:02:01Click away, everybody.
00:02:02Go enjoy your Sunday, your Monday, whenever you're listening to this.
00:02:05Don't listen to us.
00:02:06So no, it's kind of like I said, it's the same old, same old.
00:02:09There's no news.
00:02:10It's like, oh, both sides want a long term deal.
00:02:13Like Bruins offer this Swayman one of this.
00:02:15It's the same thing.
00:02:16And I'll say the same thing.
00:02:18Well, I am a little worried now before I was not as worried.
00:02:22I'm annoyed.
00:02:23I think it's a distraction.
00:02:24I think it's making both parties look pretty bad.
00:02:28I think the preseason has showed that, well, Corpus Allo is much better than advertised.
00:02:34This is a wildly different team with or without Swayman.
00:02:41And I would strongly prefer them to have Swayman.
00:02:47Why is there always goalie drama in this city?
00:02:51Can we go like, yes, yes, there is.
00:02:55I think it's just like sports radio.
00:02:57Just like to caress is terrible.
00:03:00Yeah, we miss Timmy.
00:03:03It's like, does it happen elsewhere?
00:03:05I don't know.
00:03:06I'm Toronto, probably.
00:03:08And I think it's like a major market thing.
00:03:10I don't know.
00:03:11It's basically since Tim Thomas refused to go to the White House every year.
00:03:17They're like, how do we hate the goalie?
00:03:21How do we have a full talking point all season about the goaltender slash
00:03:29goaltenders of the Boston Bruins?
00:03:32And right now, it's Swayman's contract.
00:03:36Last year, it was, does the tandem work in the playoffs?
00:03:40Is that going to work?
00:03:41The year before that, it was like, why did they even get Omar?
00:03:46It doesn't make any sense.
00:03:48It's going to throw off, blah, blah, blah.
00:03:50And then seven years of Rask slander before that.
00:03:56We get good goaltender.
00:03:57I would like if things just went smoothly.
00:03:59I don't think that's too much to ask.
00:04:01I don't think it's too much to ask.
00:04:02Just have a guy in net, pay him his money, let him play the game.
00:04:05But you hit a really good point, dude, that I
00:04:08don't think is getting too much coverage in all these storylines around him.
00:04:13And that's just the national perception, like the PR.
00:04:16This is a bad look.
00:04:19And for a long time, Boston has been the place where guys take hometown deals
00:04:24because they want to win in whatever.
00:04:27But when a guy who gave you the playoff run that he gave you last year
00:04:32is looking more and more likely, like he's not going to have a contract
00:04:35by the start of the season.
00:04:38You got to wonder like what that does to like free agent talks
00:04:41and that kind of thing.
00:04:42I mean, Boston's Boston, but money's also money.
00:04:45And Massachusetts taxes, Massachusetts, you already have these things against you.
00:04:49And it's just the public perception
00:04:52and interleague player perception, not great.
00:04:57No, and it's it's even just from like our perspective as the fans, it's
00:05:02I remain extremely excited and optimistic for this season,
00:05:06but I would be jumping in with both feet a lot more excitedly
00:05:11if I knew that we had Jeremy Swayman under contract for what
00:05:15at this point, whatever amount of years
00:05:18I still think it's going to end up being a long term deal.
00:05:21I imagine it will be an eight year deal.
00:05:24But I don't really care about the details at this point.
00:05:27I just want them in that.
00:05:28But it's again, it's not even just like the national thing.
00:05:31It's like for us, it's like it's just all there is to talk about right now.
00:05:35It comes up in every broadcast.
00:05:36It comes up all the time, every podcast, every there's so many tweets
00:05:39and articles about it.
00:05:41And I'm just tired of it, especially because it's there's
00:05:43we're just rehashing the same old information
00:05:45and kind of like bouncing back the same ideas.
00:05:48And it's also impossible for really any of us
00:05:52to have a completely informed opinion.
00:05:54Like we're all just sharing what we think is happening.
00:05:57We do not know what is actually happening.
00:05:59We do not know who like what the rate limiting factor is.
00:06:02We don't know who the bottleneck is.
00:06:04So I don't even know who to be upset about
00:06:06if there is a party here to be upset at.
00:06:10So I'm just getting annoyed.
00:06:11I'm annoyed that isn't done yet.
00:06:12I'm annoyed that I don't even really know how to feel about all of it exactly
00:06:16because like I don't want to get too strong an opinion on it.
00:06:18And then a month later, it all comes out and I was completely wrong about it.
00:06:23And I'm like, all right, I look silly.
00:06:24But I think the the most
00:06:29realistic, grounded and optimistic
00:06:33take on all of this that I've heard came on this channel,
00:06:37on Bruins Rinkside, on CLNS, go to the YouTube or on
00:06:41the Bruins Beat Pod.
00:06:46Andrew Raycroft joined Evan Marinovsky,
00:06:49and he kind of gave the
00:06:54like the inside scoop of not not of this negotiation,
00:06:56but of like what these negotiations are like.
00:06:59And he was so calm and almost blase about it, where he was like,
00:07:03I'm sure they're talking every day, if not every day, every other day.
00:07:08Even if it's a short conversation, checking in, you know,
00:07:12reiterating things, maybe making little concessions.
00:07:15And the big takeaway that he said over and over again
00:07:18was this gets solved in a five minute conversation.
00:07:22There is a day where one of them says, OK, we'll meet you on this.
00:07:27And and then it's done or you say, hey, not this, but this.
00:07:32What do you think on this?
00:07:33The other guys say, yep, that's in our range.
00:07:35And it's it's a five minute conversation.
00:07:37Then it's done and you move on.
00:07:39And that is really reassuring to me. The
00:07:44the gap that has to be closed in that five minute conversation
00:07:47is what we don't know.
00:07:49And we haven't talked since the Sweeney presser.
00:07:54I was just about to bring that up.
00:07:56Where he was mad, pissed.
00:07:59He was pissed. Ty had it coming.
00:08:01No, he's not. No. Yeah, fuck up.
00:08:03We're big fans of Ty here.
00:08:05It is. It is hilarious, though, how every year
00:08:09shout out to Ty Anderson for having just some thick skin
00:08:11because people are like, you don't know what you're doing with your job.
00:08:14He's like, I just told you what I got report.
00:08:17I don't know. Do what?
00:08:18I told you what I heard.
00:08:19You guys would've been pissed if I didn't say it.
00:08:21Whatever. And also the Sweeney thing.
00:08:24He just asked him the question.
00:08:25He's like, is there something that you want to,
00:08:26you know, refute specifically about it?
00:08:28Because like, yes, he's like, what do you mean?
00:08:30What specifically?
00:08:33Sweeney wasn't mad at Ty.
00:08:34Like he was just mad in general.
00:08:37I think and someone else brought this up that a GM
00:08:41that's as vocal and communicative as Don Sweeney is for the accusation
00:08:48to be that you went three weeks without speaking to your star
00:08:52goaltender that you're in the process of signing is like
00:08:55so undermining to like his identity.
00:08:58Yeah. That he genuinely got pissed off about it.
00:09:02Well, not he didn't refute the numbers
00:09:09that Whitney also reported, which was the four by six point two.
00:09:15But also him not refuting it doesn't necessarily mean that it's true.
00:09:21Like he could just not be talking about numbers.
00:09:22That's like beyond common.
00:09:24So but it did kind of stand out to me and like was at least worth mentioning.
00:09:28Like he never specifically said, yeah, I'll refute the fact
00:09:31that, you know, I didn't go three weeks not talking to Swayman.
00:09:34And that number they threw up there is bullshit, too.
00:09:39I don't know.
00:09:40Is that something?
00:09:42No, I that is something, though.
00:09:43I think there's there might be something there.
00:09:45I was going to say that after our last episode, I kind of was like
00:09:49I was going after biz and I was just like you shouldn't Bruins
00:09:52like no one should be getting their inside knowledge from biz probably.
00:09:57Which is like a gross generalization.
00:09:59Like he is a lot more in the know than I ever will be.
00:10:01But it was and after the show and I listened to it, I was like,
00:10:04I might have been a little too hard there.
00:10:06I might have been a little too harsh there.
00:10:07And then a couple of days later, Sweeney himself is going after biz.
00:10:11I was like, OK, you know what?
00:10:12No, there's something there.
00:10:14Maybe I was right.
00:10:16It should have been harder on him.
00:10:18It is funny that biz did nothing in this.
00:10:20It was witty.
00:10:21It was like everything in the original clip that we're like this came from.
00:10:26I didn't watch the pod, but like in the clip that this rumor came from,
00:10:30biz is like hearing the news for the first time.
00:10:32He's like, wow, really?
00:10:33That's pretty crazy, if that's true.
00:10:35And we're all like, fuck you, biz.
00:10:37You don't know what you're talking about, dumbass.
00:10:39That's what I meant, too.
00:10:40I'm like, he wasn't even one bringing the information.
00:10:44Yeah, he was shocked by it, if anything.
00:10:45He's like, wow, that sounds borderline unbelievable.
00:10:48Pretty weird that he didn't immediately dispute it.
00:10:51I don't like that.
00:10:52Yeah, that just goes to show you.
00:10:54Yeah, but that was kind of what he says, spitting up on yourself podcast.
00:10:59It's like, all right, Don, Don, Don's getting nasty with it.
00:11:02And then I like that he also a minute later was like, by the way,
00:11:05I did that on purpose.
00:11:06Like, yeah, we know, Don, thank you.
00:11:10By the way, I was being sarcastic.
00:11:12That was a joke.
00:11:14Thank you, Don.
00:11:15Don, that was 20 minutes ago.
00:11:17What are you talking about?
00:11:19Oh, goodness. Yeah.
00:11:20But again, for Swayman, I think that's kind of it.
00:11:22I will say the only contract, one of the things
00:11:25that makes comparing the Swayman situation to other goaltenders
00:11:28more difficult is that Swayman has a lot fewer starts than most goalies his age,
00:11:32which comes back to him having split the goaltending
00:11:36in a very unique way with Olmert.
00:11:38Like that's obviously we all know that's like not how the NHL teams
00:11:41handle goaltending.
00:11:42It's not like, well, we just have two guys that are so good
00:11:44that I decide between them, let them both play equally amount.
00:11:48So Swayman has like 130 ish starts.
00:11:51And the only one that like the contract terms like age
00:11:53and I think quality of play is Sorokin is probably the best comparable.
00:11:57But even Sorokin has like 190 starts,
00:12:00but he's 27 years old to Swayman's 26
00:12:03and Sorokin got an eight year contract at eight point two five.
00:12:07I have to imagine
00:12:10eight by eight is still like the general area.
00:12:13This is like being discussed at and will probably land around.
00:12:18Yeah, I don't think like I and I can see that.
00:12:22Yes, Swayman hasn't had a fifty five start season,
00:12:26but I does any part of you worry about Swayman getting that workload?
00:12:31We kind of talked about this in the playoffs last year
00:12:33where it was this same conversation.
00:12:35It's like Swayman never has had consecutive
00:12:37this many consecutive starts, especially in the playoffs.
00:12:40And he handled it so well.
00:12:43Nickname's Bulldog.
00:12:44Like that dude wants that net every single night.
00:12:47So I yes, there is something to prove.
00:12:49But like I have full faith that he will keep up
00:12:53the quality of his play into that like forty six to fifty fifth game.
00:12:59So I it's it's
00:13:03so convenient the way that teams negotiate
00:13:07because they can flip flop on one issue
00:13:11perfectly to align with however best suits them.
00:13:14And I think the biggest one is like what you're talking about, like workload.
00:13:17Right. And so had Swayman,
00:13:21you know, not had all mark for the past three years. Right.
00:13:25And he had made, let's say, sixty five starts all of those years.
00:13:31Right. The argument would be, well, we're going to pay you
00:13:35for what you will do, not for what you have done.
00:13:38So you got to think about wear and tear and, you know, like, you know,
00:13:42what's to come and the injuries that are kind of inevitable.
00:13:45And we're looking to what you can do in the future,
00:13:48not what you have done in the past.
00:13:50But because Swayman's in the situation that he's in,
00:13:52they're on the exact opposite side of the argument where they're going,
00:13:54well, you haven't proved it.
00:13:56You haven't done it in the past yet.
00:13:59So it's not a matter of like, well, he hasn't yet.
00:14:01So how do you evaluate it?
00:14:03Because I think if they were on the other side of it,
00:14:05if it was the exact opposite situation,
00:14:06they would still find a way to argue the other point.
00:14:09Like, yeah, because that's their their perspective.
00:14:13That's like their prerogative as the team who has to pay him is like, OK,
00:14:17well, we're it's not good business practice
00:14:20to just hand out the full amount what they're asking.
00:14:23Like, we kind of have to haggle a little bit, probably.
00:14:27Which is like, yeah, the business side of it.
00:14:29But this is not haggling a little bit, having them, you know,
00:14:32not play at the start of the year, not be at training camp,
00:14:35at least miss some preseason like that's not haggling a little bit.
00:14:37That's, you know, dragging your feet, being dug in, whatever you want to call it.
00:14:41But like this, the other part of it, too, that I think I mean,
00:14:46it's been mentioned, but I don't think enough weight has been given to it is
00:14:53the the idea of him like not ruining the goalie market.
00:14:56I think the players association is up his ass and like they should be
00:15:00because he's a young goaltender who's
00:15:04one of the best goaltenders in the league, I would say.
00:15:07And he has the potential to entirely crash the market.
00:15:10And the players association obviously does not want him to do that.
00:15:15It's just to make a baseball comparison
00:15:18as early as I can in this show, as I do.
00:15:21That's how Mookie Betts was treated
00:15:24in that, like it didn't matter what the Red Sox were going to offer him.
00:15:28They were up his ass like you're testing free agency.
00:15:31You're getting a 300, 400 million dollar contract.
00:15:35We're we're seeing that because we have to do that for the market,
00:15:39for the other guys.
00:15:40It's on you, Jeremy.
00:15:42You're so you can help these other guys think about it a little bit, you know.
00:15:47And like when that weight gets put on you,
00:15:50it's not just you and your agent that make this decision.
00:15:53Like there's more riding on it.
00:15:54So. And I think the arbitration thing still bothers him
00:15:59and he wants to get every dollar that he can, because of course he should.
00:16:03People are giving him shit about that being like, get over it.
00:16:07Yeah, yeah.
00:16:08I know. I know who you're talking about.
00:16:10Yeah. Oh, yeah.
00:16:12Yeah. Like I get it, but it's it's still the reality.
00:16:16Like whether or not you think it should be the case, it's still affecting
00:16:20conversations like it must.
00:16:23I don't know, I still feel like it's a good chance he's there opening night.
00:16:28I think that probably is the real deadline.
00:16:35Not the December 1st.
00:16:36December 1st is the actual deadline.
00:16:38But I don't think either side is really.
00:16:43That's their Alamo.
00:16:44It's like that's their well, we'll we'll fall back to that.
00:16:49I think Swain wants him one.
00:16:50I think he really wants to play.
00:16:52And it's the longer he doesn't play, the less time he has to warm up
00:16:56for the season starts.
00:16:57And then we're going to get if he has like one stinker,
00:17:00if like he lets in six goals in game three, everybody's going to be like, wow.
00:17:03You held out for that.
00:17:05Yeah, which I don't like.
00:17:07That's going to happen regardless of his first 100%.
00:17:09He can sign tomorrow.
00:17:10And if he has, you know, just a four game stinker or a four goal stinker.
00:17:14Yeah, it's going to be that like this is the guy we paid.
00:17:17This is going to be literally the first goal of the season.
00:17:20Oh, really?
00:17:22There's an empty net like, oh, where was he, though?
00:17:27Sitting on the bench, comfy and cozy.
00:17:29Classic.
00:17:31Yeah. So I
00:17:33think I will say Swayman's agent
00:17:37also represented this guy in Toronto last year,
00:17:39might have heard of him, William Nylander.
00:17:43Didn't he have a holdout?
00:17:45Till December 1st.
00:17:47That's tough.
00:17:48Yeah. So worth mentioning
00:17:51before we get into all this fun stuff here that we have planned for you guys.

00:19:25Let's talk about this preseason, Rob.
00:19:27Yeah, let's.
00:19:29So we were supposed to have a show last week,
00:19:31so I do have quite a few notes from the first couple of games
00:19:33that I kind of let bleed into games three and four.
00:19:39So I'll start with game one
00:19:42and I'll just speak pretty generally about impressions from certain players.
00:19:47And spoiler, a lot of them are going to be, yeah, they look fine.
00:19:51There's like a couple of people that I didn't think look good.
00:19:53There's a few people that I think look great.
00:19:55And but for the most part, I like what people are bringing.
00:19:59Riley Duran, we spoke about before.
00:20:01He's been quiet ish, but just watching him play.
00:20:05He's got good speed, got good energy,
00:20:08but he hasn't been like at the heart of like too, too much so far.
00:20:12So one of those guys that's also in a camp where I would like to see him
00:20:15do more and I would like to notice him more.
00:20:19John Farinacci, that's a name that I really wish
00:20:22I've gotten to see more of.
00:20:25He's sneaky, really good for game one.
00:20:28He went 10 for 15 at the dot.
00:20:30And the guy capped in the Harvard team scouting report
00:20:33really emphasizes his passing in his vision,
00:20:37which out of a center, that's really what I want the most.
00:20:41I sure, sure.
00:20:43Tough to tough to get a big glimpse at that
00:20:48in these like short preseason bursts. Yeah, it's tough.
00:20:50So it's it's, you know, it's one of those things
00:20:53where I will probably see more of him in the future.
00:20:54But definitely a name that I'm keeping an eye on going forward.
00:20:59Mark Castilek, I'm going to put him in the camp of damn.
00:21:03I like this guy.
00:21:05Wrecking ball, mean, engaged,
00:21:08probably almost certainly your fourth line center.
00:21:12Big boy, 64226 uses it.
00:21:16I tweeted, he strikes me as a guy who will knock out your teeth
00:21:18and then keep them as a trophy.
00:21:21You got into a fight in game one.
00:21:23He had some really good hits, got hits in game three as well.
00:21:26I believe he's been very noticeable, really like what he's bringing.
00:21:29Very excited to see more of him.
00:21:32I go ahead.
00:21:34I was just going to say,
00:21:35what are the odds you put him at like the game one fourth line center?
00:21:39Oh, like 80%, probably. Yeah.
00:21:41Like like almost certainly.
00:21:43Unless something happens like Beecher just lights it up
00:21:46for the rest of the preseason or something.
00:21:48It almost certainly could be and should be him at that fourth line spot.
00:21:51There's room for Beecher.
00:21:53We're so many players this season will be Senator Wings.
00:21:57There's going to be so many guys doing both.
00:22:02Castilek is definitely one of them.
00:22:03Beecher, Patra,
00:22:06Geeky, Frederick, you're going to see a lot of that,
00:22:10which when you take into account Jim Montgomery's fluidity with his lines,
00:22:14like it's going to be like on another level this season.
00:22:18I think I don't even think it's the line.
00:22:20I think positions among the line will change mid game.
00:22:23I don't know. I think it's going to be a lot.
00:22:26Trevor Kuntar, this is a guy.
00:22:29My notes are identical for him and guests like wrecking ball mean engaged.
00:22:34He's a puck hound.
00:22:35He's an asshole.
00:22:37By all accounts, he's just a total prick out on the ice.
00:22:40He love that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:22:43I don't mind having a guy or two in the team that is like
00:22:4810% over the line a lot of the time.
00:22:52I don't mind that.
00:22:53I can't work. I like having that out there.
00:22:55I like especially as a big team.
00:22:57I like, yes, yeah, I'm I want the big bad Bruins this year.
00:23:02It's been pitched to me and I'm all in.
00:23:05I think we're going to see it because we're already seeing quite a lot of it.
00:23:08There are a lot of guys coming in this team.
00:23:10I mean, the preseason tends to be a pretty high energy from the young guys
00:23:13because they're all, you know, championing for championing.
00:23:17That's not a word for a spot.
00:23:19But he's definitely been sticking out to me.
00:23:21He just he's just like looking at like talking shit on the ice.
00:23:25Like he just has this like like fucking try me look in his eyes
00:23:30that I'm really excited and I hope we get to see more of him.
00:23:34Good old Mason Lori.
00:23:37Dude can move the puck, man.
00:23:39Like I know it game one, like there was clearly some rust,
00:23:43but it was game one of the preseason.
00:23:44Like none of them have played a game in months.
00:23:48But even in the most recent game in the game last night against Philadelphia,
00:23:52he was just walking around people.
00:23:55It was like one move where he cut along the boards to get around someone
00:23:58and then he cut on to the inside ice and like just fully took it to the net.
00:24:03And I think he drew a penalty in the process.
00:24:06So he is, along with Pontra,
00:24:09my like most excited, like your ceiling is super high.
00:24:14And I'm curious how close you'll get to it
00:24:17in the next like in this season and the seasons to come.
00:24:21I think we all know that
00:24:23sorry, his his postseason run was so strong
00:24:27that I think people forget that like he is as young as he is
00:24:31and he does have as little experience as he does.
00:24:33And like he is still in like late development stage.
00:24:37Like he is not just like, well, obviously that's, you know, your your,
00:24:41you know, top four pairing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:24:44Like, yes, that is where he should be and could be.
00:24:47But it's not just like this given like
00:24:50we are still watching him finish his development.
00:24:54Yeah. Defenseman mature late,
00:24:56like later than possibly any other position, maybe goaltenders.
00:24:59And he became a defenseman a year and a half ago. Correct.
00:25:03Yeah. Bear in mind, he started his career as a forward,
00:25:06which we've discussed so many times.
00:25:09And it's so obvious the way he plays.
00:25:10You're like, that's just you put a forward on the blue line.
00:25:12We I see what you did there. Yeah.
00:25:15But very excited to see what he can do.
00:25:16He he I'd like to see him quarterback the power play a time or two.
00:25:21I'd like to see what you can do with that
00:25:23because he walks that blue line pretty comfortably.
00:25:27Very good handling for someone as lanky as he is.
00:25:31And good explosiveness, too.
00:25:33He can move when he wants to.
00:25:37Billy Sweezy, first off, excellent hockey name.
00:25:41Excellent name. Oh, Billy Sweezy.
00:25:44Yes, we easy.
00:25:46We played against him last.
00:25:47I believe it was last season when he played in Columbus.
00:25:50They he got into a fight and they cut to his dad
00:25:53and the crowd with a beer in his hand standing and just like
00:25:56very proud dad moment, like Frederick's dad moment.
00:26:00He's not afraid to shoot.
00:26:01So he's a defenseman.
00:26:02He he'd let a few rip.
00:26:04I think the first goal of the preseason came off of a Billy Sweezy shot
00:26:08from the blue line, and he's very physical.
00:26:10He was mixing it up with a few people.
00:26:11He fought Sean Couturier last night after he was trying to get tangled
00:26:16with their 19 year old Russian superstar who did win the game for Flyers last night.
00:26:23So that's another like physical guy likes to get into it.
00:26:27Not afraid to drop the gloves.
00:26:29Like another addition to like we could be the big bad ruins again.
00:26:33That's pretty fun.
00:26:34He has 28.
00:26:35They he and he looked like they did a locker room interview with him.
00:26:38And I'm like, that is not at all what I thought he looked like.
00:26:40And he's just much older than I thought he was.
00:26:43But handsome, native, handsome, not handsome.
00:26:46He's a little handsome.
00:26:47You'll get him handsome.
00:26:48He's a native handsome.
00:26:50He's a native handsome man from Massachusetts.
00:26:55Parker Wotherspoon.
00:26:56We know Parker.
00:26:57I like his game.
00:26:58He's got some grit.
00:27:00Game one, he got run twice by Ottman and he got late.
00:27:03That was one of them was like a late ish hit where he was kind of cruising
00:27:07back with his back to him, going into the neutral zone and he got lit up.
00:27:12And then later on, they were jousting and then they fought
00:27:15and Wotherspoon kicked his ass.
00:27:17And then after the game, Ottman was like, oh, I respect him
00:27:20for coming in and wanting to fight, but it just didn't really sit well with me
00:27:23that he had to do that, considering he played in the NHL basically last year.
00:27:27And I'm just a young kid.
00:27:29I get it.
00:27:29I have to answer the bell sometimes.
00:27:31But that situation there, I just didn't really appreciate that.
00:27:34Just considering his status.
00:27:36Shut the fuck up.
00:27:38NHL superstar Parker Wotherspoon.
00:27:41Yeah. Also, you don't get to run somebody over and over again
00:27:46and then get upset, be like, I'm just a boy.
00:27:50Why are you fighting me?
00:27:51Dude, I'm literally a kid.
00:27:53I'm literally a baby.
00:27:54Like, why are you hitting me in the face?
00:27:57So I was like, dude, OK, sure.
00:28:00I don't like the fact that I had consequences for my actions.
00:28:04That's one thing I will say.
00:28:06I would prefer I didn't have those consequences.
00:28:08This is an Alex Ovechkin beating the shit out of an 18 year old.
00:28:12Like this is Parker Wotherspoon fought you after you hit him late and high twice.
00:28:18Mm hmm.
00:28:19Lots of fighting in the in the preseason.
00:28:21Oh, yeah, there's usually a fight.
00:28:23I feel like there usually is.
00:28:24I feel like it shocks me every time.
00:28:26Oh, I love it because, again, everybody wants to show off to the coach
00:28:29and the fan base, be like, this is what I can bring.
00:28:31This is why you should keep me around.
00:28:34I feel like the Bruins, everybody wants to hit kids.
00:28:37Everybody wants to punch 18 year olds in the face.
00:28:41Yes. And it's not usually allowed.
00:28:44You got to take advantage when those opportunities come, you know?
00:28:47OK, I asked.
00:28:47Opportunity comes knocking.
00:28:49Are you going to answer?
00:28:51Are you going to punch a jail in the mouth?
00:28:53You should if you're Parker Packett.
00:28:56I hardly know her.
00:28:58Nice.
00:28:59So that was that was my spoon.
00:29:02I hardly know her.
00:29:05Go on, I can't.
00:29:08Oh, that was mostly from game one again.
00:29:09Like, we'll just hit like the general beats for game two.
00:29:12So also, I'll say for game one,
00:29:15Lysel and Merkulov were getting a lot of shit.
00:29:17They didn't have a great game.
00:29:19The most I noticed Lysel was like when he handled the puck on the powerplay,
00:29:22the blue line and just overhandled it and like shot it into somebody's skates.
00:29:26And then the play died.
00:29:28So a lot of conversation like, oh, well, you know, the team is like
00:29:31really putting them out is like, hey, we like these guys like Lysel.
00:29:36First round pick like they're like Lysel was supposed to get called up
00:29:39last season, but got injured.
00:29:41We expect them to be making the team.
00:29:43And then they had the game one that they did.
00:29:45And everybody was like, these guys right now.
00:29:49But, you know, game one of the preseason game to completely flip the script.
00:29:53Great game from both of them.
00:29:55Very, very much more involved.
00:29:57Lysel had that beautiful goal, that rip of a shot,
00:30:02which is like that is why that's oh, I get it.
00:30:05There it is.
00:30:06It is a big click moment where you're like, oh, OK.
00:30:09So like all the headlines you see about Lysel are he's kind of an asshole.
00:30:14He was late to this thing.
00:30:15He wasn't listening to his coach.
00:30:16He doesn't pass the puck.
00:30:18He's, you know, at the pizza party has too many slices.
00:30:22And you saw that.
00:30:25I was like, oh, yeah, no, no.
00:30:27I don't know many guys who can do that.
00:30:29That's a that's a shot that's special.
00:30:31That's a really his wrist or just I don't know where the power comes from.
00:30:36It's one of those magical like his hands are so high on a stick,
00:30:40but he just generates power from his brain.
00:30:45I don't know what he's doing, but it's it's nuts.
00:30:49Yeah, he's very fast, too.
00:30:52But like in motion, he it's almost like Kessel a little bit
00:30:57where it's like he's just zipping around and then he lets the puck go.
00:31:00And you're like, why did that go 95 miles an hour?
00:31:05So he I mean, he's a small guy, too.
00:31:07He's a little guy.
00:31:08But I mean, when you're that small, you kind of have to be fast
00:31:11and have a shot like that.
00:31:12So I'm really excited to see more of that.
00:31:16How big is Lysel?
00:31:18He's like 176.
00:31:20And I want to say like five, nine.
00:31:22He is five, five, ten, five, ten.
00:31:25So, you know, like that's that's pretty small by NHL standards,
00:31:28especially on this Bruins team.
00:31:32They have them. Yeah, they have them.
00:31:33They have them 511 only prospect 511 176.
00:31:36Yeah. So it does not matter at all.
00:31:38But he's still growing. He's 21 years old.
00:31:40He's a growing boy.
00:31:42He's born in 2003. That's upsetting.
00:31:45Georgie Murkulov.
00:31:46Hi, Georgie, Georgie.
00:31:49Smart player.
00:31:50One more time.
00:31:51Hi, Georgie.
00:31:53Has good vision.
00:31:54He had that like he was skating behind the net
00:31:57and did that like blind backhand pass to Brazzo, who underrated
00:32:02shot there by Brazzo, like one timed it on the backhand top shelf.
00:32:07You're like one of those like, does that what you meant to do?
00:32:08Or did you just want to put that on net?
00:32:10Yeah, I'm going to give him the credit because it's Brazzo.
00:32:13Well, it's how he drew it up.
00:32:14It's how we drew it up. He's got good hands.
00:32:15He's got good hands.
00:32:17I love Brad's.
00:32:19So again, big games from Lysol, Murkulov,
00:32:22and they've been pretty consistent since in game three and four.
00:32:24They look good, too.
00:32:25Not as I think they were more noticeable in game two
00:32:28because after game one, everybody was like,
00:32:31well, let's see.
00:32:33So excited to see if they can keep that up.
00:32:36And then game two was the return of my pride and joy.
00:32:41Matthew Patra, Joe, baby boy.
00:32:44Yep.
00:32:44Joe, let me just say that, you know, over the course of the offseason
00:32:49and like after he stopped playing last year, it did some like reflection.
00:32:54And I was like, you know, I was like really singing his praises
00:32:57and I was like really getting into it.
00:33:00I should just let the kid breathe.
00:33:02I should just, you know, let it happen.
00:33:03However, it's going to happen because like, you know, so it's the NHL.
00:33:06He's young.
00:33:07So many different things could happen and go so many different trajectories.
00:33:09Maybe it's not as big of a deal as I thought.
00:33:12I underdid it.
00:33:15He's so fucking good.
00:33:17He's 20 days, 20.
00:33:19And he plays like he's been in the league for that amount of time.
00:33:22His positioning, his ability to retain the puck along the boards
00:33:27and just like always find an open man like he can make stretch passes.
00:33:31He can make these like little soft, like three foot saucer passes.
00:33:37He's got a great shot.
00:33:38He I could not be bigger on Matthew Padra.
00:33:42He's going to win a Selke one day.
00:33:44He is very comfortable making that prediction.
00:33:49I know they have him at wing a lot of the time right now.
00:33:52He was centering between Babal Zaka and David Pasternak.
00:33:57Well, the three of them are the bottom of the team
00:34:00with a minus three right now.
00:34:01I will say all from the one game they played together, which is weird
00:34:05because I thought they look good, but it's preseason.
00:34:07Don't don't care.
00:34:10It's just unbelievable how comfortable he looks
00:34:13playing at an NHL level at 20 years old.
00:34:15He did it. Nineteen
00:34:18in Montgomery season prediction episode real quick.
00:34:20We'll do a full season prediction episode at some point.
00:34:23But right now, how many NHL games does Matthew Padra play this year?
00:34:31I mean, 70 to 82.
00:34:35He's going to play the full season.
00:34:37Yeah. Health provided.
00:34:38There's no reason he's given them zero reason
00:34:42not to have him in the lineup every single night.
00:34:45He's not starting a Providence.
00:34:46I know that was kind of a thing that before any we saw any amount of play.
00:34:50We're like, you know, maybe
00:34:52if he just is still shaking off some rust from like the rehab
00:34:55or from the surgery, like maybe just let him get some more time
00:34:59and, you know, play in the HL where like he would be like a head
00:35:03above most other players at that level.
00:35:06No, absolutely not.
00:35:08You are doing a disservice to your own team
00:35:10if you do not have Matthew Padra in your lineup opening night.
00:35:13He people like fourth line center, third line center.
00:35:16You could put him on the top line and he's going to be very good.
00:35:21But that's crazy.
00:35:22It's so weird.
00:35:24The chemistry between him and Pasternak is so good.
00:35:29It would be devastating for the rest of the league
00:35:32if the two of them heated up.
00:35:34I mean, they're a perfect yin yang in terms of style.
00:35:37Like, yeah, it's just it's it's perfect.
00:35:40Like they he does need a guy like Patrice Bergeron, Matthew Padra.
00:35:46David Creechy, like he needs a guy like that.
00:35:49I mean, it'll certainly be Lindholm.
00:35:51That's, you know, between pasta and whoever. But
00:35:56that's it's not true.
00:35:57We haven't seen Elias play a single game yet, and I'm already giving away his job
00:36:01to 20 year old Matthew Padra. Yeah.
00:36:03I'm like, no, I think Padra should get, you know, the PP one bumper spot.
00:36:06I think he should center between Zaka and Pasternak.
00:36:09I think that's probably for the best.
00:36:11He's just it's such it's so fun to watch him because
00:36:15and Montgomery was actually saying he was like, yeah, he's been good.
00:36:19Yeah, as much as you're going to get from him.
00:36:22He's saying like he wants him to be like more.
00:36:24How did he put it?
00:36:25He wants him to be like
00:36:28more engaged, I guess.
00:36:31Yeah, he said good.
00:36:32And the reason I don't say great is because I think he's a little hesitant
00:36:35in some areas of his game still, and that's normal.
00:36:37He's been out for eight months, but you can see it coming back more and more.
00:36:41So from my perspective, from what I've been watching from his three games
00:36:44for Montgomery Bill, yeah, he's all right.
00:36:46I'm like, dude, how high do you think his ceiling is going to be?
00:36:49That's unbelievable that you don't even think that he's all right.
00:36:53It's kind of like these two a martian said.
00:36:55They're like, yeah, the kids are playing pretty well.
00:36:57And he was basically like, that's not good enough.
00:36:59Like if you're content with pretty well, like pretty good,
00:37:02then you don't belong on this team.
00:37:04Yeah, I love Brad.
00:37:06I love Captain Marci.
00:37:07Always have, always will.
00:37:09And like I love having that kind of leader of like, well, that's not good enough.
00:37:14If you're going to be on my team, pretty good doesn't cut it.
00:37:17Because, you know, there was at least one player that came off a pretty good game
00:37:20and they're like, you know, I'm feeling comfortable.
00:37:22And then they see Brad Marcian, future Hall of Famer,
00:37:25one of the best left wings on the planet being like, OK,
00:37:29like that's great.
00:37:30Cool. You had an assist in a preseason game,
00:37:33which is like a nice reality check and also like great fuel for the fire.
00:37:39Yeah. So big fan of that.
00:37:40But yeah, I mean, I concern level over Patra's shoulder.
00:37:43None. They get hit at the end of the game on his bad shoulder.
00:37:47Kind of late. He keeps getting hit.
00:37:49Yeah, he's he put on weight.
00:37:51That's like my one concern with him is that he I don't want to say he gets targeted.
00:37:58But if you are playing against a guy that is not that big and not that old
00:38:03and who has a high IQ in great passing and is going to be a thorn in your side,
00:38:08then, yeah, the game plan probably would be to bruise him
00:38:11to the point where he's not as effective. Yeah.
00:38:15But yeah, wrist align and laid into him at the end of regulation.
00:38:18Like it's a it's one of those hits and I'm like, it's clean. It's legal.
00:38:23I don't love it, but like I'm not losing any sleep over it.
00:38:27Like it is what it is.
00:38:28You could do with someone on the Bruins bench that I don't even think Patra
00:38:32had hit the ice yet.
00:38:34And he was because the hit was right in front of the bench
00:38:36and he was leaning over, screaming at wrist align.
00:38:39And which I'm glad that seemingly all of us fans
00:38:42and the rest of the Bruins team is like, don't you fucking touch Matt?
00:38:46Leave him alone.
00:38:48He's just a boy.
00:38:49He's just a kid.
00:38:52And he doesn't need to face consequences for his actions.
00:38:55He's a child.
00:38:55No, just let him be.
00:38:57It's unfair that these NHLers.
00:39:00I just don't like it.
00:39:01The NHLers are going after him.
00:39:05Yeah, they got to be hypocritical.
00:39:07OK, Ottman.
00:39:09But yeah, I mean, I could talk about Patra for the rest of the show,
00:39:12and I probably would if you let me.
00:39:13That's OK. That's OK.
00:39:15Now he's opening night roster.
00:39:17He is as many games as you can get him this season.
00:39:20He you can put him probably anywhere in the lineup.
00:39:22He's going to be doing the center wing thing a good amount.
00:39:25But I really hope he is primarily going to be playing center
00:39:30because he is your future one to see.
00:39:34And I just don't I worry about
00:39:38delaying his development in that position at this level by keeping him at wing.
00:39:42And it's not like he it's not completely transferable.
00:39:46And he's such a smart player.
00:39:48He always knows where to be.
00:39:49But I just like I would like to see that the team is aware
00:39:53and investing in his future as a dedicated center.
00:39:58He went seven for ten of the dot against the Flyers last night.
00:40:01So he's he's he's doing he's doing well.
00:40:07Good. Good.
00:40:08Hey, get a corpus hollow.
00:40:13Yeah. Pleasant surprise.
00:40:16That could be the name of his biography.
00:40:19Yeah. So far.
00:40:21Yeah. Corpus hollow. A pleasant surprise.
00:40:23So he when the trade happened and we got him, we were like, why the fuck
00:40:28did we get corpus hollow for three million?
00:40:32Why would we do this?
00:40:33Ruins are like, well, we're going to need a guy to play up until December 1st
00:40:36because we're going to be offering Swayman 38 bucks in a bag of crackerjacks.
00:40:41And back in July, we're like, what are you talking about?
00:40:43We have three months. Surely it will be done in time.
00:40:47No, no.
00:40:48So his first game was in game two.
00:40:50He got the start.
00:40:51So he played the first 30 or so minutes and he stopped seven out of seven shots.
00:40:55But the first two were high danger.
00:40:57And those are your first two shots on goal
00:41:01to start the season. And he was there.
00:41:04And then he ended up getting the full game last night against Flyers.
00:41:07They did lose three to two in overtime, but he looked very good.
00:41:1037 out of 40.
00:41:1237 saves, 40 shots.
00:41:14Very, very surprised. Happily,
00:41:17I would imagine Bob Essenza is a very big part of this.
00:41:22Also, probably just playing behind a much better team than the Ottawa Senators.
00:41:28That being said, he's not Jeremy Swayman.
00:41:32Oh, sure. He's a bandaid.
00:41:34But he's a very good bandaid.
00:41:36But he's a bandaid.
00:41:37He's another another good biography title.
00:41:39A very good bandaid.
00:41:42A pleasantly good bandaid.
00:41:46So it's nice to know that we have that,
00:41:48especially because Brandon Bussey is kind of having a shakier start.
00:41:51He let in a few not so good goals again preseason,
00:41:54not putting all that much stock in it.
00:41:56But it's yes, Joe. Joe, you have a question.
00:41:59Yeah, I have a question over here.
00:42:01Joey Capone, CLNS Media.
00:42:04I'm going to give a guy like Bussey
00:42:08a little bit of nerve leeway.
00:42:11I think you're an AHL are competing for a spot.
00:42:15I'm going to give him some nerve leeway early in the preseason.
00:42:18I think he got a little nervous in there.
00:42:21I'm going to give that to him.
00:42:23OK, that's all that.
00:42:24OK, we'll do that.
00:42:27But yeah, no, but I'll say Corpus O.
00:42:28I'm excited to see what you can do.
00:42:29He looks very comfortable.
00:42:31His rebound control is a little not great, but it's gotten better
00:42:34as the games went on.
00:42:36He had a really good save.
00:42:38A few really good saves on the penalty kill, a really good save in overtime.
00:42:42The one that went in, it's like, you know, it's three on three.
00:42:4519 year old superstar coming along.
00:42:46That's going to go in sometimes
00:42:48glove, quick glove.
00:42:50Yeah, yeah, quick glove. Yeah, for sure.
00:42:53Yeah, he had he made a really good glove save.
00:42:55Somebody like danced around.
00:42:58I think it was peak summer.
00:43:00It might have been Lindholm.
00:43:00Actually, some Bruins defenseman got walked around
00:43:03and he was there with the glove.
00:43:04It was kind of one of those like it was a position save
00:43:07that he made a little bit of a windmill on it.
00:43:10But save to save, save to save.
00:43:13Game two.
00:43:14Trent Frederick wearing the A.
00:43:16I love that.
00:43:17Interesting.
00:43:18I love it.
00:43:19I love people care about that as much as we do.
00:43:21That's a big bear with me thing.
00:43:23What people who's wearing the A or who's wearing the A?
00:43:26Yeah, no, that's a thing.
00:43:27I think, you know, the fans out there like the diehards,
00:43:30like they really pay attention to who is getting the letters.
00:43:34Yeah, I really like seeing that from him.
00:43:36I love how much faith this team has in Trent Frederick
00:43:40because and I don't know if y'all remember, but there were a few years
00:43:44like a lot of people were not big on Frederick
00:43:46because like he has matured a lot and his game has grown a lot.
00:43:49But before that, he was just like visibly raw talent.
00:43:53You're like, there is something here like we think we can get more out of you.
00:43:57And there was something very endearing about that to me
00:43:59where I've always really been a Frederick guy.
00:44:02I mean, I said I still have a standing order.
00:44:04The first time he scores a hat trick, I will on the spot by Trent Frederick Jersey.
00:44:08I am staying true to that.
00:44:10So it's cool to see him kind of lean into even in a preseason game,
00:44:15getting the A. I think that that's really neat.
00:44:18Mm hmm. I like seeing that.
00:44:20I do, too. He's he's not like you're
00:44:24not like my first or second choice.
00:44:26That's interesting.
00:44:27And it shows some faith in longevity in him being around here.
00:44:31He's just such an obvious like fan favorite that like him,
00:44:37him getting this like does make sense.
00:44:38It's a little bit of an adjustment thing to be like, oh, right.
00:44:40Yeah, Freddie is kind of like of that stature now.
00:44:43I don't think of him being there, but.
00:44:47Kind of off of this, I will say that.
00:44:49OK, so the next captain is Charlie McAvoy.
00:44:52I don't think there's much,
00:44:55much discussion there about that.
00:44:56I think that's everybody knows that.
00:44:59I do love how much of a conversation
00:45:02there is about how good of a captain Brandon Carlo would be.
00:45:07Yeah, he's like an everyday at the very least right now.
00:45:10Yeah. But just it's crazy.
00:45:15Brandon Carlo is 27.
00:45:17Mm hmm. He's been playing for this team since 1955.
00:45:21Mm hmm. So that's how it feels.
00:45:23I think it was right around.
00:45:24I think it was 56, 57.
00:45:26I thought, OK, I was going to say 55, 56.
00:45:28So that's good.
00:45:30Such a good personality.
00:45:32Like every time they show him behind the B or anything like clearly
00:45:35just a very good guy,
00:45:37a big leadership guy in the behind the B episode they showed when Zdorov
00:45:42and Lindholm went up to warrior for the first time and both times
00:45:46it was Carlo in the locker in the weight room, greeting him
00:45:50just dripping with sweat, dripping with ice.
00:45:53So I just want to quickly throw in how much I appreciate Brandon Carlo,
00:45:56how good he is, how important he is to this team.
00:45:59And while I do not think he will wear the C here
00:46:03just because of his teammates. Yeah.
00:46:06He would make a very good cap.
00:46:08He would make a great captain on a bad team right now.
00:46:11If you had a team without a superstar, he would be your guy. Yeah.
00:46:15Yeah, I guess he does.
00:46:19Who was it? Who was it?
00:46:20The Ducks.
00:46:22Radko Gudis, the captain of the Anaheim Ducks.
00:46:27Radko Gudis, dude.
00:46:29Is he the only guy in the team?
00:46:31Was it him or Zgris?
00:46:32Who else you got? Yeah. Gibson.
00:46:34There's like give it to any.
00:46:36John Gibson, I think, is a player who's been playing since 1955.
00:46:40John Gibson. Yeah, he's 88.
00:46:42He's still kicking every offseason.
00:46:44Wait, did he retire?
00:46:45They're like, no, he's 23. What are you talking about?
00:46:47Yeah. How how is this possible?
00:46:48I think John Gibson is actually aging in reverse.
00:46:51He's making blood sacrifices in the offseason.
00:46:53I like that they're doing anything but
00:46:56anyone but Zgris.
00:46:58Like, God damn, dude.
00:46:59Anybody but this kid, this loser.
00:47:02They took the Ducks and saving off the front of his jersey.
00:47:04It's the closest thing they could have to not having a letter is you're
00:47:09you can skate with us, but we don't want you representing.
00:47:11They don't even want the letter D on his chest.
00:47:13They were like, you know, like, no, put the with the Disney back on.
00:47:17We'll get the cease and desist because we don't want a D on his
00:47:20whatever. You get the joke. It was fun.
00:47:22It was a fun. It was fun.
00:47:23It was a fun joke.
00:47:24I like the logo at center is, though.
00:47:26I guess I'm glad I'm glad they brought that back.
00:47:30I like the orange.
00:47:31Sorry, it's fine.
00:47:33I think it's better.
00:47:34I think it's better, but I don't love it.
00:47:37I did not like their jerseys before.
00:47:39They should go back to purple full time.
00:47:41Sure, they should go back to them or the original originals.
00:47:43But someone needs to be purple.
00:47:46I think if the Kings will nobody purple.
00:47:48I don't I don't think so.
00:47:50Nobody's purple.
00:47:51Somebody might be purple.
00:47:52I can't recall, but the purple and gold is so good.
00:47:56So much better than black and white.
00:47:58I don't like it.
00:47:59No, I don't care for it.
00:48:01Ugly, ugly.
00:48:03We got some other stuff from around the league.
00:48:04Speaking of the Anaheim Ducks.
00:48:07So we should probably get to that.
00:48:10What? But first.

00:49:40Oh, yeah, I got more.
00:49:42OK, yeah.
00:49:42Oh, yeah, I got more.
00:49:44I continue to talk Billy Sweezy in game two.
00:49:47A couple of big hits.
00:49:48We've mentioned Brazzo before.
00:49:50I still think Brazzo is like sneaky important for this team.
00:49:54I don't I don't know how many times he needs to come into the team
00:49:58and then score a goal and play really well for people to like catch on that.
00:50:03That's how he plays.
00:50:05And he should be on this roster pretty consistently.
00:50:09Like talk about a guy that I wouldn't mind getting some time
00:50:11on that second right wing spot.
00:50:15It's probably going to be myself, but I he should be in the conversation.
00:50:19He played a lot of guys for a couple of years, too.
00:50:22So him and he and he and Georgie got some chemistry.
00:50:26The amount of guys you can put in this bottom six is ridiculous.
00:50:31Like, yeah, you got 12 guys you can put in the bottom six.
00:50:35The depth is crazy.
00:50:37Yeah, I it feels like it's the deepest.
00:50:40The bottom six has been in a little bit.
00:50:43Worst farm system.
00:50:45I'm so tired of that.
00:50:46Like, clearly, we're not like unless everybody else
00:50:49just has like three McDavid's waiting to like suit up.
00:50:53I don't understand.
00:50:54No, we're the worst.
00:50:55No.
00:50:56Matt Hatcher alone should like at least bump us up five spots.
00:51:00And then Mason will write another five.
00:51:03Tyler Johnson, I want to talk about a little bit.
00:51:05So I'm coming here on a PTO.
00:51:07John Sweeney tells them I want you on this team.
00:51:10I cannot offer you a contract right now, but I want you on this team.
00:51:13I really like Tyler Johnson.
00:51:15He's a water bug.
00:51:17It's a lot of good experience.
00:51:19Back to back cup winner in Tampa.
00:51:21Very slippery.
00:51:22And then you just think about the importance
00:51:24having just like even more veteran presence in the locker room,
00:51:26on the ice for younger guys.
00:51:29If he's cool here, likes it here off the bat.
00:51:32Yes.
00:51:32Likes it here.
00:51:33Yep.
00:51:34After not liking Boston before, which is I like that we have the reputation
00:51:39I like when guys are that honest.
00:51:40I like when guys are like, I always hated you guys.
00:51:42But now I'm here.
00:51:43I'm excited that like they're going to be cheering for me
00:51:45instead of booing against me.
00:51:46Like, I love that.
00:51:48It makes me feel like, oh, we're good at booing.
00:51:50We're good at pissing off opposing teams.
00:51:53Like, I like that.
00:51:54Yeah, he's got an assist so far.
00:51:57You know, only one.
00:51:59No. OK.
00:51:59No Bruins player through four games has two has more than one goal.
00:52:03And only two players have two points.
00:52:06And it's Kepke and Patrick Brown.
00:52:09Oh, no, I'm sorry.
00:52:09Not just Brown.
00:52:10Brown, Murkulov and Harrison all have two points.
00:52:15Murkulov is the only player with two assists, is what I meant to say.
00:52:20So, yeah.
00:52:21No, but Teller Johnson, I think so long as he's cool, hang around on the PTO.
00:52:25I think the contract is going to be decided by Swayman's contract.
00:52:32I had previously said we have a little over nine mil,
00:52:34but I was looking at projected cap space.
00:52:36I think we have like eight and a half.
00:52:37It's like below nine.
00:52:39So we're going to have to get a little creative with it.
00:52:43But I think that's also another really important reason for work
00:52:47at Murkulov or Lysel or some other Providence player to make the team
00:52:51is because then you're paying them like.
00:52:54Eight hundred instead of like five mil.
00:52:57So that could be big.
00:52:58So I'm excited to see him play.
00:53:01Ryan Tufte, Riley Tufte.
00:53:05Not not not a huge fan so far.
00:53:09He's a very lanky guy.
00:53:11Big guy. He's had moments.
00:53:12He's good at using his reach and his size.
00:53:16But I don't think he's handling it well.
00:53:18He had some time in the three and three overtime last night against the Flyers,
00:53:22and he mishandled the puck like all three times that he touched it
00:53:26and like turned it over and
00:53:29maybe that's three and three is just not the space for him.
00:53:32But he's a guy that he was a first round pick
00:53:36and he's been on a couple of teams and hasn't really seen much.
00:53:39I think he's played like six games in the NHL, like at least not much.
00:53:44Eighteen. Thank you.
00:53:45Eighteen games.
00:53:46So I would like to see more him do more.
00:53:50But right now, I don't think this is his season.
00:53:52Yeah. Eighteen games, three points
00:53:56between Dallas and Colorado over the last three years.
00:53:58He is twenty six.
00:54:00Yeah. And it's not even like one of those like, oh, well, we'll wait.
00:54:02It's like you're at the age where like it should be now,
00:54:06if not a few years ago.
00:54:08Yeah. Patrick Brown.
00:54:11It's a name that we know is look good.
00:54:13He had a nice goal.
00:54:14He's got a good release.
00:54:16Very highly touted by his peers in Providence.
00:54:19People say that he's a very good leader among them.
00:54:23I know he got a lot of flack last season from the fans for some reason.
00:54:27Maybe this wasn't playing all that well at the time,
00:54:29but I've liked what he's brought so far.
00:54:31Like, not like the most sparkling player, but not a detriment either.
00:54:37That's all I really got from game two.
00:54:38And then game three was such an off game
00:54:39that the only notes I really have on it were that I thought
00:54:42there was really good chemistry between Zaka, Patra and Pasternak,
00:54:45even though they weren't.
00:54:46They were minus three on the game.
00:54:48Yeah. I mean, who cares about about it?
00:54:50What do you mean the plus minus and the points and the whatever?
00:54:52But like they did, they looked great.
00:54:55And it's just it's just great to say Zaka, Patra, Pasta.
00:54:59Yeah. Not not just aesthetically pleasing to the ear, but just.
00:55:05You hear those three together and you go, oh, nice.
00:55:08Yeah. 1850, 1851, 88.
00:55:11I like it a lot.
00:55:12So I do hope we see some looks at that during the regular season.
00:55:18Patra also played with Frederick and Geeky, which I love
00:55:20because that's just three centers on the same line.
00:55:23Yeah, they had I I was thinking I can't just keep saying
00:55:28Patra has really good chemistry with like X, Y, Z,
00:55:30because at a certain point, it's not just chemistry.
00:55:31It's just that potters are really fucking good player
00:55:35because he was setting up like he was setting up for.
00:55:37Yes, he's crazy.
00:55:39Like he has like the defensive play of Bergeron.
00:55:42Like you can clearly see him making plays that I'm like that Bergeron
00:55:47would have done that exact same thing.
00:55:50And but he has like this like vision in this
00:55:54propensity for passing that I think is very crazy esque.
00:55:58So he's like a beautiful, beautiful man, a beautiful hybrid
00:56:01between the two of them.
00:56:04And I'm kind of past the point of like feeling the need
00:56:06to put the caveat like, you know, I just compare, you know, I know it's Bergeron.
00:56:09It's like enough people are like, he's the next Bergeron.
00:56:13Like there may only ever be one Bergeron, but he's the next closest thing
00:56:17that we're going to get.
00:56:18Mm hmm.
00:56:19So I it was a nice showing from him, too, in that game.
00:56:22And then in the Flyers, really good pace in the Flyers game, I will say
00:56:26really, really, really intense for a preseason game.
00:56:29But I think that's just Bruins Flyers.
00:56:31They tend to be like that.
00:56:32I mentioned Corpus all look very good.
00:56:34Had 37 saves and 40 shots.
00:56:36Pacher went seven for ten at the dot.
00:56:38And Lysol had a good game again to something that stuck out for me
00:56:41in this game from Lysol is that he's very good
00:56:45at entering the offensive zone with speed,
00:56:48which I don't know if you recall, but entering the zone,
00:56:52especially on the power play, is the Bruins kryptonite.
00:56:56So to have a guy that can just sprint into the zone is so good.
00:57:02And out of all very interested to see how that translates to this year,
00:57:06like what they have done to adjust because that was just the most
00:57:11headbanging against a brick wall that like I've ever seen.
00:57:16Yeah, the power play was.
00:57:18Infuriating for a good part of the year,
00:57:21the last years, like especially towards the end.
00:57:24So out of all the ways that Lysol could and will contribute to the team,
00:57:28I'm very much keeping my eye on on Puck moving on the power play,
00:57:32especially his own entries.
00:57:34And he is not afraid to net drive like that guy.
00:57:36He was zooming up the wall and then cut in right along the circle,
00:57:41kind of like what Pasternak likes to do and just put it put it on net.
00:57:44But the goalie gave him nothing Fedotov.
00:57:48So that's again, you know, general strokes from the from the season,
00:57:52I'm absolutely missing some people, but those are been my big
00:57:55people that have stuck out to me.
00:57:57I will say also, Jackson Edward has been very highly touted
00:58:00as a future fan favorite.
00:58:01And in a game that was pretty contentious, the one against the Flyers,
00:58:04he didn't really get involved in any of it for a guy that elite prospects
00:58:08describes as violent.
00:58:11He handled the Puck well, whenever like I noticed him
00:58:13and he was like making passes like he's very comfortable
00:58:16handling the Puck and making passes, especially in his own zone.
00:58:20So I liked his play.
00:58:21I just would have preferred to see some snarl.
00:58:24But, you know, there's plenty of time for that.
00:58:25So three more games.
00:58:28So that's that's those are the big hits for the preseason for me so far.
00:58:33Lots of faces, folks, lots of guys that you're going to see, too.
00:58:39I think that's that's one thing that I think that there's going to be
00:58:42a pretty regular taxi squad
00:58:45that you're going to see changing out in that bottom six.
00:58:48So also, Kempke, I like Kempke's game.
00:58:51I want to throw that in there, too.
00:58:55It's going to be it's going to be a good year.
00:58:57I agree. Did you get to.
00:58:59So the first two games were on Nesson.
00:59:02Yeah. Game three, they used New York's coverage.
00:59:04And game four, it was NHL Network.
00:59:06And I know everybody was having a hell of a time even getting that.
00:59:09Yeah. Did you get to listen?
00:59:10I don't blame the Bruins for that.
00:59:12Don't blame NHL for that.
00:59:14I saw people being like the top reply to the Bruins tweet being like,
00:59:17hey, it's on NHL Network now was like the NHL is awful at marketing.
00:59:22Now, I don't want to get into the fact that that has absolutely
00:59:24nothing to do with marketing,
00:59:27but that's not the NHL's fault.
00:59:29It's Nesson. It's one entity.
00:59:31It's Nesson.
00:59:31It's also a preseason game purchased or is planning on being sold.
00:59:38I think it's planning.
00:59:38And I haven't looked into it since that first article that I saw.
00:59:42But so it's Nesson's fault.
00:59:45But I'm sorry. Go on.
00:59:47Also, it's a preseason game.
00:59:48I remember when we were in college, most of the games were not televised
00:59:52or even being recorded at all.
00:59:56No, you had to follow on the app or just like follow somebody on Twitter
00:59:59who would be on the radio.
01:00:01I remember there was like one game in like, I want to say the 1718.
01:00:05It was the 1718 season.
01:00:07The preseason Krug got into a fight
01:00:09and there was like one shitty quality video
01:00:12because it's like it wasn't really being like televised.
01:00:16So for these to be like consistently
01:00:20watchable at all, I'm very grateful for.
01:00:23Yeah, I'm happy we can watch our game.
01:00:25I'm happy I get to watch the team I support.
01:00:27It's very good for me when I get to do.
01:00:29Yeah, it's cool that they let us do that.
01:00:31But I wanted to ask in the first two games,
01:00:33did you get to hear Judd calling the games at all?
01:00:37I did. It feels very familiar because it is.
01:00:41Yes. Yes. Interesting.
01:00:43It's very different than you made a great point.
01:00:46I'm going to steal your point. Please do.
01:00:49You texted me and I thought, great point, Rob,
01:00:52that it's been a couple of years since we've had fast paced, fluid.
01:00:57Play by play. Yeah.
01:00:59And it does feel very different to have that back.
01:01:02It does.
01:01:03I miss Jack a lot. I truly do.
01:01:06I always will.
01:01:09It's nice having the the the play by play matching the speed of the game.
01:01:15But I don't want to say any more than that because it makes me feel.
01:01:17Yeah. Yeah.
01:01:19But I do like Judd. I think he's doing a good job.
01:01:20I like his chemistry with Brick.
01:01:21I think he's a funny guy.
01:01:22I think he's a knowledgeable guy.
01:01:24He's got a good voice for it.
01:01:25And again, it doesn't even feel like I have to adjust to it all that much
01:01:29because if you've listened to like any amount of games on 98.5,
01:01:33then you know Judd's voice.
01:01:35Like it just feels it doesn't even like stick out to me.
01:01:38Like I barely sometimes have to catch myself.
01:01:40I'm like, oh, it's right. It's somebody new.
01:01:44But but I have been liking his play.
01:01:47Yeah. Do you notice when I what?
01:01:50Notice what? What?
01:01:51I was going to change topic.
01:01:52So if you want to wrap that up,
01:01:54I was just going to say that you were right about like his chemistry with Brick.
01:01:57And I think that they're going to get even more loose.
01:01:58And like, I think they might be more similar than Jack and Brick were.
01:02:02Jack and Brick were a good yin and yang.
01:02:04Yeah, this might be like a, you know, they play off each other.
01:02:08Gets a kind of, you know, have some more more congruent fun
01:02:14rather than Jack and Brick, who were like almost mirror reflections of each other
01:02:18where like Jack would be screaming about like, and they're not calling a penalty.
01:02:24And then Brick's like, yeah, I don't know, Jack.
01:02:26Yeah, Jack. It's not a penalty.
01:02:28Yeah. Jack, you're facing the wall.
01:02:30Jack, that's not the ice. That's a different game.
01:02:32But like now I do like the idea that like they can kind of play off each other
01:02:38and whatever, it's just a different dynamic.
01:02:39But I do like it. Yeah, so do I.
01:02:42I was going to say, you know, it's what number Brandon Bussey is wearing.
01:02:47No, number 30.
01:02:50Oh, well, well, interesting.
01:02:56Is there a controversy?
01:02:58Is there another goalie controversy in Boston?
01:03:01I mean, I'm not like the guy who's like, it doesn't matter.
01:03:03Like, it's just like funny.
01:03:04It's like, how dare you stand where he stood?
01:03:07Mm hmm.
01:03:08Mm hmm. R.I.P.
01:03:09Dayman. There's no way he's the first one, right?
01:03:12No, I don't think like sends Thomas. Yeah.
01:03:17I don't know. Probably not.
01:03:18I feel like there's only so many numbers goalies typically where
01:03:21Corpus is wearing what I think 70.
01:03:26Could be.
01:03:28Hold on. Let me let me.
01:03:2970 is wearing 70.
01:03:31So I think of Chad.
01:03:33Was it Chad Johnson played war number 70 for a while?
01:03:37Chad Johnson wore 30.
01:03:39Did he really?
01:03:40As did Keith Kincaid.
01:03:43OK, so that's how it is.
01:03:44A popular number. All right.
01:03:45It's popular that that is.
01:03:46Those are the only two since Tim Thomas.
01:03:48That's more than I would have guessed, to be honest.
01:03:50In 97, 98, Jim Carrey wore number 30 for the Boston Brewers.
01:03:55What a renaissance man.
01:03:57Yeah, you remember what Jim Carrey's nickname was in 97, 98?
01:04:02No, what was it?
01:04:04The net detective.
01:04:06God damn it.
01:04:09I'm not going to get.
01:04:09I know you're not. That's why I'm mad.
01:04:12Come on. That's a great name.
01:04:14You could have said the mask and it would have been OK.
01:04:17That works, too.
01:04:20Actually, I'm on his hockey reference right now.
01:04:23The net detective, the mask.
01:04:25There we go.
01:04:26There we go. There we go.
01:04:27Those are just great.
01:04:28Those are great nicknames.
01:04:30Did you see Marcian talking about Zdorov?
01:04:34I don't think so.
01:04:36They just asked him about him.
01:04:37They're like, what do you think about him?
01:04:38And he was like, I hate him.
01:04:39And then he's like, no, I'm good.
01:04:41He said he's amazing.
01:04:42He's just an absolute animal.
01:04:44So he's a predator out there.
01:04:46And then he said, I hated playing against him,
01:04:48which is always one of my favorite things to hear
01:04:50when the Bruins get somebody.
01:04:52It's kind of like Hathaway or
01:04:55just like anyone like Bertuzzi, probably a little bit, too.
01:04:58And just like it was a huge pain in the ass play against you.
01:05:01It's like if Marcian went anywhere else, everybody in that team would be like,
01:05:04thank God that you're on our side now.
01:05:06We don't have to deal with you anymore.
01:05:07Yeah.
01:05:09Also, people started calling Zdorov zaddy.
01:05:14And it's catching on because the official account is using it.
01:05:18Are they really?
01:05:19Yeah, they tweeted something today and they referred him as zaddy.
01:05:23Which and it's so funny that you can be six foot six,
01:05:27almost 260 pounds, and your name is Zdorov and be like, yeah,
01:05:32my nickname was Big Z.
01:05:33And then you come to Boston.
01:05:34You're like, we've seen bigger.
01:05:36Like it's like, no.
01:05:37OK, big.
01:05:38You're not even the biggest Z we've seen.
01:05:42He could still kick your ass
01:05:44if you ever stop running 200 miles a day.
01:05:48It's just funny because like any other team, any other sport in the world
01:05:51is like, yeah, of course, you're big Z.
01:05:53But in Boston, even he was like, never call me that again.
01:05:55Like, yeah, that's not not big Z.
01:05:58I don't have a very big Z fragmented memories of like the last season
01:06:02or two seeing graphics, referring to him as Big Z and being like,
01:06:06what do you what? How dare you?
01:06:08Yeah. When you get mad about the past.
01:06:10Yes. Like when anybody else is referred to as like burgee.
01:06:13I'm like, no, no, that one's already spoken for.
01:06:19I don't know.
01:06:20I already brought up Martian saying that the kids are pretty playing pretty well.
01:06:24Yeah, this is it's encouraging, but pretty well needs to be better.
01:06:28Pretty good is not going to cut it.
01:06:29If you're happy with that, then you've got a long ways to go,
01:06:32which I like.
01:06:34Martian should be playing Tuesday.
01:06:36I so Tuesday when they play the Flyers at home, I'm considering going
01:06:41that should I think you're going to see pretty much a full lineup
01:06:45because they were on the roads and now they're back home.
01:06:47Three more to go.
01:06:48I think this is when you pretty much start skating the guys,
01:06:51at least more of them.
01:06:52I think you'll see Lynn home.
01:06:54I think you'll see Marsh and Max Jones is a name.
01:06:58I don't think I brought up yet.
01:06:59He's still day to day
01:07:02skated before practice today.
01:07:04Another guy like cast like that, I'm really excited to see what he can bring,
01:07:07like plays like his hair is on fire is how he puts it.
01:07:10Big body uses it fast, engaged.
01:07:14That's a guy that I would relate to see what kind of damage he can do.
01:07:18But yeah, and then to Marshawn skating again, Elias was practicing today,
01:07:23but with the no contact jersey on.
01:07:25But that's still good progress.
01:07:26Of course, that you come to Boston on a big contract is the one
01:07:30scene you were injured immediately.
01:07:31Very grateful.
01:07:32Nothing, nothing serious, seemingly.
01:07:36But yeah, I think I'm sure I'll have a few other random things to bring up,
01:07:40but I think that's a lot of my preseason stuff.
01:07:43Yeah, I mean, I think going any deeper than that would just be looking for
01:07:48looking for something to bring up.
01:07:49Yeah, I think that's a very comprehensive
01:07:54summation for now of what we've seen for so far this preseason,
01:07:59at least in Boston, the Habs and the Leafs.
01:08:04Dude, I've been itching.
01:08:05I've been itching to talk about it.
01:08:07I've been itching to talk about it.
01:08:08I've been itching to talk about it.
01:08:09I've been itching to talk about it.
01:08:11Dude, all right.
01:08:12I've been itching.
01:08:12I've been itching.
01:08:13I've been itching.
01:08:14Let's talk about it.
01:08:14They tried to.
01:08:15They're trying to kill each other and they're doing a good job.
01:08:19Let them fight.
01:08:24Patrick Laine.
01:08:26Habs legend Patrick Laine might be out for a little bit.
01:08:32Yeah, I don't even want to make fun of it.
01:08:35No, I'm not making fun of it.
01:08:36No, I know.
01:08:37I just it sucks for him.
01:08:39That sucks.
01:08:40Like all this.
01:08:41Stop saying it like that.
01:08:42Stop saying it like that.
01:08:44Sucks.
01:08:46Oh, man, that's.
01:08:49Is it really coming off sarcastic?
01:08:51No, I mean it.
01:08:52I genuinely mean it.
01:08:53Dude, don't make fun of it.
01:08:54That sucks.
01:08:55Damn.
01:08:57Yo, that's crazy.
01:08:59No, it really does.
01:09:00Like that's well, first of all, like the pain alone from experiencing your
01:09:04knee just like twisting in ways previously unknown like that screenshot of it just fully
01:09:13bent out of place.
01:09:14I'm like, that's like that shit that goes.
01:09:16It goes right down your spine, but I don't like that.
01:09:20Mark McLaughlin placed on waivers right now.
01:09:26Nobody better grab him.
01:09:27I like Mark.
01:09:28That's a guy.
01:09:29I didn't bring him up.
01:09:30He was okay.
01:09:32Yeah, I mean, he's fine.
01:09:33He could, you know, ride that horse into the sunset back to Sleepy Hollow.
01:09:37Yeah, I think he looks like a cabot crane.
01:09:40That's the joke there.
01:09:41He looks a lot like a cabot crane.
01:09:42That's how we refer to him in our text.
01:09:44Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:09:45A cabot on way back.
01:09:49Yes, Patrick.
01:09:49Line is seemingly to be out for a bit.
01:09:51I don't think there's any news about like the imaging or whatever, but clearly could be season
01:09:59ending would be brutal for Montreal.
01:10:01I told you.
01:10:04My bold prediction this year is I think the Montreal rivalry gets reignited this year.
01:10:10And you said line is a part of that big part of that.
01:10:14Yeah, because a big part of the rivalry is the haves need to be good.
01:10:19Yeah, like I don't want to.
01:10:20It's not a rivalry if you just kick the other team's ass all the time.
01:10:23Yeah.
01:10:25So I really for I don't like saying that I want Montreal to be good.
01:10:31It feels counterintuitive for me.
01:10:33I'd like them to not be dog shit.
01:10:35Yeah.
01:10:36Can you guys just be a little good so we can like have fun?
01:10:40Like it's you guys are embarrassing us.
01:10:42Can you guys fight back a little bit?
01:10:45That's all I'm asking.
01:10:46But following Patrick, if you guys have been living under a rock following Patrick Laine
01:10:51getting I mean, Kim Neely.
01:10:59Who was it?
01:10:59Was it Shay?
01:11:01It's like Paré.
01:11:03It's I've been trying to Cedric Paré is French.
01:11:08So I'm sure it's like got.
01:11:13It's not a good play.
01:11:14It's assaulted.
01:11:15He got assaulted.
01:11:16Oh, yeah.
01:11:18Oh, yeah.
01:11:19He didn't want to drop the wasn't it?
01:11:20Was it Shay?
01:11:22Who who fought him?
01:11:24Yeah, it was Jack.
01:11:25I Arbor Jack.
01:11:26I okay.
01:11:27Okay, Wi-Fi.
01:11:28Who?
01:11:29All right.
01:11:30So if you're listening, you know, we're talking about one of the Montreal or one of the Toronto
01:11:35Leafs players had a knee on the collision with Patrick Laine.
01:11:38Laine's knee just went sideways.
01:11:41It disappeared.
01:11:42We don't know where it went and he's out.
01:11:45And then shortly afterwards, Arbor Jack.
01:11:47I who already has quite a reputation for being a tough customer went after the guy who did it.
01:11:55Didn't take his gloves off.
01:11:57The other guy didn't get his gloves off.
01:11:58And Laine was not Laine.
01:12:00Jack.
01:12:01I was just laying down the boom on him, like standing over and not take no for an answer.
01:12:07No, it was not like a hey, we're going to go fight.
01:12:09It's like I'm skating up to you and I'm going to start punching you and whatever you want
01:12:14to do is up to you.
01:12:15But this is going to happen.
01:12:17Here's the thing.
01:12:18People are saying some crazy shit about this.
01:12:21If you watch that full clip, he tugs his jersey.
01:12:24He pushes him.
01:12:25He tugs his jersey.
01:12:26He pushes him.
01:12:27Then he tugs his jersey.
01:12:28Then he starts throwing punches.
01:12:30Yeah, which I don't care how old school I sound.
01:12:34You got to go.
01:12:36You've got to go.
01:12:37100% and Jack, I made it really clear you are going.
01:12:41You don't have a choice.
01:12:43Put your fucking hands up.
01:12:44Drop your gloves.
01:12:45Put your fucking hands up because my fists are coming at you.
01:12:48And he gave him warnings.
01:12:49He's like, I'm going to hit you now.
01:12:52And he didn't.
01:12:53He just thought it would go away.
01:12:55No, you just took out Patrick lining on a team that really needed Patrick lining.
01:13:01So you're going to get your ass kicked.
01:13:04Like, get ready for it.
01:13:05I have zero sympathy, zero sympathy.
01:13:08Put your fucking hands up.
01:13:09You're going to get into a fight now.
01:13:11And like people, the accusations, I mean, the words that people are throwing on the
01:13:15comparisons outlandish what people are referring to when looking at this.
01:13:22It's like this is the self policing that everybody talks about that makes hockey great.
01:13:29And this is what let the guys go.
01:13:31This is it is just someone being a fucking idiot, being reckless, hurting a guy, and
01:13:36then not wanting to own up to the consequences, face the repercussions, whatever, thinking
01:13:40that that hockey died with your dad's NHL.
01:13:43It didn't.
01:13:44It's still here.
01:13:44And this guy's like, Jack, I were going to beat your face in whether or not you drop
01:13:48your gloves or not.
01:13:50I love it.
01:13:50Sorry.
01:13:51I love it.
01:13:51No, I completely agree.
01:13:53For better or worse.
01:13:54If like Marshan is lining in that situation, I want somebody doing what Jack I did.
01:14:01Yeah, like this isn't like the time for the moral high ground or like, what do we think
01:14:05is the best course?
01:14:06I'm like, he took out your star kick his ass like this is the NHL.
01:14:11Like, yeah, I felt like the comparisons you're referring to, by the way, just so our listeners
01:14:17know, people are comparing it to Todd Bertuzzi.
01:14:24Take a beat.
01:14:25You're talking about the guy who paralyzed that kid?
01:14:29Yeah, I got it from behind.
01:14:30Drove his head into the ice.
01:14:31Correct.
01:14:32Yeah.
01:14:32Okay.
01:14:33We're saying that it's basically the same thing.
01:14:35Yeah, a lot of it ain't.
01:14:37They're like how the NHL needs to suspend Jack I for this.
01:14:41And it's like, yeah, probably the gloves on.
01:14:44Yeah.
01:14:44You know what?
01:14:44Whatever the consequences.
01:14:46Yeah, there's consequences.
01:14:47But and it's obviously it's Toronto fans are the ones saying this, but like, that's what
01:14:53I want to see.
01:14:54Like, that's what I think is the appropriate response.
01:14:59Give them a three gamer for that.
01:15:00Yeah, sure.
01:15:01Which in turn is also an appropriate response.
01:15:04Like, that is the way those dominoes are falling.
01:15:06Make sense to me.
01:15:08Can I say, I know you just said, like, if that happened to March and I would want somebody
01:15:11to do it.
01:15:12May I also say if Perry, I hope I'm not saying that right.
01:15:18If he was on the Boston Bruins and he did that shit and that happened to him, I'd be
01:15:23like, hey, idiot, put your hands up.
01:15:25You're about to get your ass kicked.
01:15:27Yeah.
01:15:27Hey, moron, don't get drilled into the ice like that.
01:15:31Like, you really think it's going to, like, that's going to stop it from happening is
01:15:35if you're like, I don't consent to this fight.
01:15:36It's like, it's not one of those fights, buddy.
01:15:39Like, guess what?
01:15:39It's happening, bro.
01:15:40It's happening.
01:15:42I think he just looks stupid.
01:15:43I think he got more hurt because he didn't participate.
01:15:47So I just don't have any sympathy there.
01:15:51And like, that is the correct response to fight.
01:15:54It is the incorrect response to not partake in it.
01:15:58And because of that, it is the correct response to probably suspend him a couple of games.
01:16:02But I think that's just how the game goes.
01:16:04And that's how you police that shit.
01:16:06And like, I know he didn't probably do it on purpose.
01:16:08I know.
01:16:09But you got the Piper calls, dude.
01:16:12Yeah.
01:16:12You heard a star player.
01:16:14It's what happened in the fucking preseason.
01:16:16I don't know.
01:16:17I love them just like ripping each other apart, though.
01:16:20Watching them fight online is giving me life.
01:16:23Oh, it's so good.
01:16:24Also, Jack, I in the penalty box.
01:16:26Did you see that clip, too?
01:16:27Right afterwards?
01:16:28Fucking loser.
01:16:29He's the word I saw was incensed, which is the perfect word.
01:16:34Like he was fucking mad.
01:16:36Like you wanted to fight him again.
01:16:38Which again, that emotion.
01:16:40Like, we've seen it with the Bruins.
01:16:42We've seen someone go down and they're not really be a big response to it.
01:16:48And we're like, stick up for him.
01:16:51Do something.
01:16:52So just as a hockey fan to see a guy like Jack, I defending his teammate like that with
01:16:58so much vitriol.
01:16:59Big fan of that.
01:17:00I really like that.
01:17:01I like that a lot.
01:17:01I like Jack.
01:17:02Like, it seems like between Jack and Rempe, like where there's a bit a little bit of a
01:17:09resurgence of, like, that kind of player.
01:17:11I'm not going to say Goon, because Goon is like that is a dead position at this point.
01:17:16But I'd like that there's still room in the NHL for an enforcer.
01:17:21I like that that is still there, and I still think it has value.
01:17:25As do I.
01:17:27As do I.
01:17:28I think I got other random stuff, but apparently not.
01:17:32Oh, while we're on the subject of Montreal, I want to rehash a fact that I told you and
01:17:38I've been reading around, and I just I can't wrap my head around it.
01:17:42In 15 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Carey Price had a teammate break the 80 point
01:17:52mark one time.
01:17:56Who was it?
01:17:58Isn't Lexi Kovalev?
01:17:59That sounds right.
01:18:00Yeah, yeah, I think it was Kovalev.
01:18:02Yeah, it was like, yeah.
01:18:05So, yeah, he didn't win a cup like, yeah, no, that's that's bananas to me.
01:18:14It's crazy that you can go 15 years and not have players doing better than that.
01:18:18Like, I mean, that's that's crazy.
01:18:20Doing better than that.
01:18:21Like, I mean, that's I'm sitting up the top of the mountain as a Bruins fan with like
01:18:25perennial 50 and 60 goal scores on our team almost every year.
01:18:28But that's just sad.
01:18:32It's very sad.
01:18:33Very sad.
01:18:3480 point mark is crazy.
01:18:36Like, I wouldn't believe that if it was like 100 points, whatever, like, you know, yeah,
01:18:4080 is bananas.
01:18:41Also, another said that, like, you know, it's true.
01:18:44But when you see it in front of you're like, God damn, Montgomery is winning record with
01:18:48Boston in two seasons.
01:18:50He's a 744 point percentage 112 32 and 20.
01:18:57Do we think the Bruins are going to have a restart like another?
01:19:00Like, are we going to lose every game in overtime this season?
01:19:04I hope that did.
01:19:06That did happen for a while.
01:19:08I don't know.
01:19:08I don't know.
01:19:09Um, we should also next show talk a little bit about Monty and the situation he's in
01:19:14with what's going on there.
01:19:16Lame duck contract.
01:19:17So something to think about something to look forward to.
01:19:20We look forward to talking to you guys again, but they're starting construction right outside
01:19:25my house.
01:19:26So there's actually a pretty good time to get out of here.
01:19:29You can follow the show at bear with me underscore pod.
01:19:33You can follow me at Joy Capone.
01:19:34You can follow him at Rob Tachi.
01:19:36Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
01:19:37Thanks for being you.
01:19:41Thanks for, you know, bearing with me.
01:19:47Nat Potro will win a Selkie.
