00:26I'm Evan Marinovsky.
00:28That's Connor Ryan.
00:30What's up?
00:31Evan.
00:32I'm doing well.
00:33How are you doing?
00:34There was enthusiasm in that.
00:35I was like, oh.
00:36A little, oh.
00:37Yeah.
00:38We're starting off on beer.
00:39And then we're going to talk about the Bruins and it's going to go all the way down.
00:42Well, you know what?
00:43I want to start on a high note.
00:44I want to start on a high note.
00:45I want to give a big congratulations to the Bruins who are a playoff team right now.
00:52Congrats to them.
00:53Seven, seven, and one or two.
00:56They're a playoff team.
00:57They are firmly in the third spot in the Atlantic.
01:00Played the Maple Leafs in the first round.
01:02Shaping up just how we thought it would.
01:05Just how they drew it up, Evan.
01:07It is incredible to me.
01:09And we discuss this every postseason when the matchups are really good in the first round
01:13and then get worse as time goes on.
01:15And I apologize for the congestion.
01:17I was in a rink legitimately all Saturday and Sunday.
01:20So it's just like, this happens.
01:23But we say this every playoffs.
01:25The formatting stinks.
01:26Like, it would be so much better if it was one versus eight.
01:28It's hilarious to me that as of Monday, the Rangers, who have 19 points, are sitting on the outside.
01:33Whereas a team like the Bruins, who have 16, are sitting on the inside.
01:37But they are a playoff team.
01:40Bruins are technically a playoff team right now.
01:43It doesn't feel like that, really, at all.
01:46So, it's been a...
01:48I think people are...
01:49The mood is dull, especially after Saturday's game.
01:52The big return of Lena Solmark.
01:54They hug at center ice in warm-ups.
01:56I was hoping for a fight.
01:57I was hoping that things would get so heated in the game that the goalies would be forced to go at it.
02:01I thought maybe...
02:02Maybe on the table?
02:03I don't know.
02:04Maybe.
02:05It would have been the most exciting thing we saw in that game, Evan.
02:08Well, yeah.
02:09So, maybe you didn't see the game and you're wondering, hey, why was it not so exciting?
02:13It was a 3-2 overtime loss.
02:15Had to be something.
02:16That's because they entered the third period tied 2-2 and proceeded to put zero shots on that.
02:22Which we have consistently said, you know, oh, this is the new low.
02:26Nope, this is the new low.
02:28This, to me, feels like a new low.
02:30To have no shots in a third period where you're tied.
02:35I saw Andrew Raycroft tweet out that I think it was over an hour between shots Lena Solmark faced.
02:40An hour and seven minutes, I want to say.
02:43Again, and as your colleague Kevin-Paul Dupont posted, it hasn't been since 2006 that that has been the case.
02:50Which is, A, incredible research, and B, I believe that was the Dave Lewis Bruins.
02:55Yeah, it's not good when you get compared to that squad.
02:59So, it's not all that great right now with the Bruins, Evan.
03:04No, it's not.
03:05And you wrote a little bit about the third period.
03:08As Jim Montgomery instructed you to do after the game, there was a very, very quick press conference.
03:14And he said, that's up for you guys to figure out and come up with a reason.
03:19We just weren't good enough.
03:21You guys can write what you guys think is the malaise on the team.
03:23And what's going on?
03:25We're just not playing good enough.
03:26So, this is on us.
03:27I actually take this very seriously.
03:29This is on us.
03:30We've got to break this out, Connor.
03:31He said, you know what?
03:32I can't come up with something right now.
03:35Reporters and writers, you guys watch us.
03:38You talk about us.
03:39You put your opinions out there.
03:40It's time for you guys to come up with a solution.
03:42So, this could be our big break.
03:44Yeah.
03:45Are we going to be hired as the next – are we going to be co-coaches of the Bruins?
03:49I don't know.
03:50I hope not.
03:52It goes so poorly.
03:56Anyways, you also mentioned sort of the third period woes have been lasting throughout the season.
04:05Worst third period goal differential in the NHL, minus 11.
04:08Also holding the second worst third period shot differential at minus 41.
04:13So, what do you make of what happened Saturday?
04:17Yeah.
04:18I mean you say it represents a new low.
04:20I also think you look at it like we're going to talk on this podcast obviously about Montgomery
04:25and the hot seat and all that stuff.
04:28I think it's all warranted.
04:30You're still seeing this team be so stop and start in terms of their play.
04:35They have a few encouraging wins.
04:37They take a step back.
04:39You're in this kind of malaise as Jim Montgomery mentions it.
04:42You can talk about the special teams and the lack of adjustments there.
04:47Some of that is on coaching in terms of you're the one mixing up the lines or not mixing up the lines
04:53and things need to be adjusted there.
04:57But I also think there needs to be something where this roster needs to be taken to task
05:03because you can talk about the chemistry and what's there, what isn't, the adjustments that the coaches can make.
05:11There's no strategy or anything like that that warrants zero shots on goal.
05:15That's effort, losing puck battles, and sleeping at the wheel.
05:19Honestly, you and I could step in and put up a third period game plan and it would never come to no shots.
05:26And I'm not saying that's on Montgomery.
05:28That is just horrible play by the players.
05:32Yeah, exactly.
05:33You can draw up whatever you want.
05:35Hockey is still 20 minutes of controlled chaos in which a vulcanized little disc is flying all around the place.
05:44The onus is on the players out there who have played hockey their whole lives to win puck battles,
05:49retrieve it, and get one shot on goal against the opposing goalie.
05:54Listen, I think you look at what's ailing this team.
05:57There's a lot, and Montgomery and the coaching staff are going to be the first ones to take the fall
06:03if seismic change is going to impact this team.
06:08But players themselves have got to look at themselves in the mirror.
06:11You can say whatever you want about the lack of cohesion or the strategy, all those things.
06:17It falls on the players themselves to make plays happen.
06:19And for 20 minutes, there wasn't shit to talk about with how that game went.
06:25What are you going to do there?
06:26Jim Montgomery said he had no answers, and you don't want to hear that from a coach.
06:30That's not great.
06:34What are you doing for those 20 minutes, man?
06:36Jesus.
06:37That truly is the thing where I think he has got to a point where,
06:42obviously, we don't know every single thing he's done behind the scenes.
06:45We are not in the room with him.
06:46But my guess is he's tried everything.
06:48And he has tried everything.
06:49He's tried mixing up the lines and sitting different guys and things like that.
06:54And if it just isn't working, if the messaging is just not getting through
06:58and you're not putting together strings of good games and at least just solid efforts.
07:04Again, if you went out in the third and peppered Lena Solmark and lost,
07:07it's like, all right, well, you tried.
07:09You were there.
07:10You just couldn't finish.
07:11Whatever.
07:14I think he's kind of tried everything at this point.
07:18We are over a month into the year.
07:22We've been asking this question now for a few weeks of,
07:25is Jim Montgomery on the hot seat?
07:27And it's tough because I agree with you in that it ain't his fault
07:31they didn't get a single shot on that in the third period.
07:33It just isn't.
07:34That's on the roster.
07:36And the easy move here for John Sweeney, if this continues,
07:40because again, we are running out of time,
07:42because we are getting close to Thanksgiving.
07:44That is kind of the good measuring stick for postseason,
07:48which again, they're in the playoffs right now.
07:50So Lord knows the easy move would be to fire Jim Montgomery.
07:56You have two guys on the bench who could step right in.
08:00You'd be okay.
08:01You'd be okay.
08:03I'm not saying coaches are dispensable or anything like that,
08:08but it probably would give you a little spark.
08:12But just because it's the easy move, does it make it the right move?
08:15I think everyone just goes up, fire the coach.
08:17The team will be good.
08:18They'll be on their way.
08:19And if the locker room's tuned him out, then that's one thing.
08:22He says they haven't.
08:23Obviously, he's going to say that.
08:24He's not going to say they don't listen to me.
08:27So we won't really know.
08:29But I just come back to are the problems deeper
08:33than just the head coach at this point?
08:35It feels like they are.
08:37Yeah.
08:38I mean, I think, again,
08:39you can talk about however you want to drop the strategy,
08:42anything like that,
08:43but the onus still falls on the players to get pucks on net.
08:47Again, they just need to simplify their game.
08:49They can't even get to that right now.
08:51They're either overthinking things.
08:53They're overpassing.
08:54They're not making the simple smart plays.
08:57They're not crisp with the puck.
08:58Again, it all comes down to,
09:00let's say for the power play, for example, right?
09:03And you can say the Brooms need to change their strategy,
09:05change their approach.
09:07There's still a shit ton of talent on that power play unit.
09:10Naturally, in terms of just what they do best,
09:14you should be able to,
09:15that personnel, regardless of how you drop the plays, whatever,
09:18should not be 30th in the league.
09:20Should not go through,
09:21should not go through,
09:23let's say for the first power play unit,
09:25a minute and 10, a minute and 20 seconds.
09:28Shouldn't have a stretch there in a five and four
09:30where you have zero pucks on net,
09:31or even high danger chances.
09:33They're not even generating looks.
09:35You're not making the goalie go post to post on the power play.
09:39That's not even happening right now.
09:41Lita Somar could have been eating the chicken fingers
09:43out of the Zamponi.
09:44She was pretty much chilling for those 20 minutes.
09:47Again, we'll dive more into it.
09:51Montgomery and those guys and the coaching staff,
09:54they take onus of where they are right now,
09:57but it ain't just them.
09:59We know if they have to make changes,
10:00what it's going to be.
10:02You can't fire the whole team,
10:03but the players themselves have so much more to give
10:06in terms of not just even,
10:08and we can look at the individual guys,
10:10the guys who have one five-on-five goal,
10:13two or three total five-on-five points.
10:15So many guys need to step it up,
10:17but as a collective group,
10:19to go 20 minutes with a shot on goal
10:22without threatening or pushing the pace or anything like that.
10:26I mean, it wasn't even like it was also the whole third period.
10:29I think the last shot on goal before overtime was Kastelik had one,
10:33and it was, I think, 13-13 in the second period.
10:35So there was a whole stretch there
10:38where the Bruins weren't doing much of anything.
10:40So again, who's going to take the fall?
10:44We know what happens if they have to make those moves,
10:47but the players themselves need to step it up here.
10:51Well, that's the thing.
10:53Again, it's funny because they had those two straight goals
10:56within 15 seconds of each other.
10:57It's like, all right, they're cooking.
10:59You build off that,
11:00and I think that's sort of a microcosm of their season so far
11:03of you'll have those one or two good games,
11:06and then there's just nothing after.
11:08That Zaka goal to me on Saturday
11:10was sort of how you want to score those goals
11:13where it's like you're passing it around,
11:14you get a passing lane open down low,
11:16you'll hide a low for it,
11:18and then Zaka on his backhand with his back to the net,
11:21typically you would expect them to pass that puck.
11:23They'd never shoot it.
11:24He just turns and fires it.
11:25It's like that's what you need.
11:27That's what you want,
11:28and they clearly don't do it enough.
11:31I do want to dive more into this Montgomery stuff
11:34because we're back at this.
11:36We're back at it, Connor.
11:37It's like you were at the Garden.

13:20So we were gonna do this on Jim Montgomery
13:23and we'll still get into that.
13:25But we always hope that breaking news happens
13:27while we record.
13:29And a little piece of news came out that already,
13:32so we're recording this, it's 2.22 p.m.
13:35Burns tweeted this news at 2.16.
13:37It has 10 retweets and 89 quote tweets,
13:42which is very impressive.
13:44All replies.
13:46The graphic is huge.
13:48They say, like, psych RN.
13:50Is that what the...?
13:51Psych right now.
13:52Yes.
13:53The news is Matt Potrak got assigned to Providence,
13:55which, again, had a really strong training camp,
13:58came out, and the reality is
14:00he's four points in 14 games.
14:02He was sort of the odd man I would practice on Monday.
14:06But he is still very young.
14:08There are developmental advantages to going down,
14:13whether it be playing more,
14:15playing in more situations.
14:17I don't think it's any secret
14:19that he's been getting knocked around here a lot.
14:21Feels like every game he's taking a huge hit.
14:24And I don't think they feel the production's
14:26probably where it needs to be.
14:27They haven't spoken on it yet,
14:28so we don't really know.
14:29But what's sort of your initial reaction to this?
14:31Yeah.
14:33I wouldn't say it's necessarily completely surprising.
14:36I could see why I think Providence is probably not happy,
14:39because, one, he probably was the most consistent player
14:42during camp,
14:43and also you look at where this team has struggled,
14:45and there's been a lot of issues.
14:47We can look at the power play.
14:48We can look at third periods.
14:50Just five-on-five scoring has not been there,
14:52and he's been a guy that has shown
14:54that he has that playmaking poise.
14:57That being said,
14:59I think he's a guy that...
15:01It's kind of what our argument was going into camp, right?
15:04Where it also doesn't hurt
15:05where if you're putting him down there
15:07and he's given time to play
15:1018 to 20 minutes a night
15:12on the top line,
15:14top power play unit,
15:16get rolling a little bit here,
15:18feeling confident about his game,
15:20maybe that helps him
15:21and gets him back up here
15:22as a more poised and confident player.
15:24Maybe it's just a couple of weeks,
15:28get his game going.
15:30I think you can see there's still
15:32learning curves in his game, right,
15:34in terms of...
15:35It feels like he gets rocked every single game
15:37of not putting his head up.
15:39But I think beyond that,
15:41things that probably the Bruins look at
15:43is where he has more room to grow.
15:46It's just what all players,
15:48especially at his age,
15:49have to work on,
15:50which is adding a little bit more muscle.
15:52He does get out-muscled
15:53along the boards quite a bit.
15:55Very crafty, poised player.
15:56We all know that,
15:57but you can see where...
15:59And it's the same thing you see with every player.
16:00Same thing with David Posternak,
16:01who's not a power forward, right?
16:04But his first few years
16:05was getting knocked off the puck very regularly.
16:07And he adds on muscle,
16:10fills out his form,
16:11and he's more attuned and equipped
16:14to handle that physicality at the next level.
16:18Posternak needs to work on that a little bit,
16:20so not surprising there.
16:21But I wouldn't call it a gamble,
16:23but I think you can see both sides of it, right?
16:26The Bruins, I think, see him
16:28as someone that needs to develop a little bit more
16:30and should benefit from more reps down in Providence.
16:33But this is also a team
16:34that it's not like you've got, you know,
16:36Geeky rolling and Frederick rolling
16:38and all these guys.
16:39You can be like,
16:40all right, we're good.
16:41Like, we have the luxury
16:42of putting Potter down in Providence for 20 minutes
16:45where maybe he would best benefit
16:47when already your five-on-five play
16:49isn't all that great.
16:50So you can make either argument
16:52as to what this team needs right now.
16:54But clearly right now,
16:55I think the Bruins think that
16:56Potter needs a little bit more of a reset
16:58and probably more minutes down in Providence.
17:00I'm fine with this for his own development.
17:02Like for his own game at his age,
17:04like that's completely fine.
17:06He's never spent any time down there.
17:08Be great opportunities.
17:09You said play 20 minutes a night,
17:10be the top line center,
17:11like really expand your game,
17:13gain some muscle, all that.
17:16I don't understand it from the team's perspective
17:19because again, like,
17:22he's crafty and he's skilled
17:24and he's so smart
17:26and he's got such good vision
17:28and he protects pucks well.
17:30I mean, he gets knocked off them a lot,
17:32but he can protect them too.
17:33And I just like,
17:36Geeky is not going right now.
17:37So Geeky was on the top line
17:39on Monday at practice.
17:41Trent Frederick has,
17:42I think, seven straight games without a point.
17:46You know,
17:47your secondary guys aren't giving you anything.
17:49And I think that's also why
17:50Potra's production has dipped.
17:52I mean, again, like playing with guys
17:53like Coyle and Frederick and whomever,
17:55like those guys aren't producing either.
17:56So neither is Potra.
17:57It's like Potra's getting even like
17:59secondary assists on anything
18:01because nobody's producing.
18:02So I,
18:03but I don't understand that end of it
18:05where it's like,
18:06you know,
18:07this team could use him.
18:08This team needs him offensively.
18:10And again,
18:11if he comes back in a month or two,
18:12I mean,
18:13I don't know how much bigger he's going to be.
18:14It's mid-season.
18:15He's just yoked.
18:17He's jacked.
18:18He's completely jacked.
18:19Like he's Popeye.
18:21He's just been carbo loading
18:22over at Federal Hill in Providence,
18:24eating pasta every day.
18:26Yes.
18:27Just,
18:28just eating insane amounts of food.
18:31I don't know how that happens now.
18:33I don't.
18:34You want to make the case for all situations.
18:36Go for it.
18:37But again,
18:38like that's what the offseason's for
18:40getting bigger and stronger
18:41and all those things.
18:42So I'm very curious to hear
18:45sort of what the rationale is from the team,
18:47why they did it,
18:48what they think of it.
18:50Because again,
18:51like, you know,
18:52are they,
18:53are they,
18:55what's the,
18:57you know,
18:58what's their next move?
18:59Is Montgomery going all veterans
19:01to maybe potentially save his job?
19:03Like,
19:04I think that's the other part of it too.
19:05Like,
19:06you have Tyler Johnson now.
19:07Do they feel that he's a better fit?
19:08More stable?
19:09Like,
19:10I don't know.
19:11Like,
19:12is Lysel coming up?
19:13I don't think he's coming up.
19:14But,
19:15yeah,
19:16I,
19:17I,
19:18I wonder what the,
19:19the plan is here.
19:20Is it short term,
19:21long term?
19:22I think you can see both sides of it,
19:23right?
19:24And I think,
19:25as you said,
19:26like,
19:27you can easily see both sides,
19:28but I think when you look at the situation,
19:29the Bruins are in,
19:30that's where it's like,
19:32all right,
19:33like,
19:34yeah,
19:35he definitely could use more seasoning Providence,
19:36but they can kind of use him right now
19:38as just a guy that is making plays.
19:40I didn't,
19:41I haven't looked at his numbers recently,
19:43but I know like natural stat trick.
19:45And again,
19:46that's not the be all end all,
19:47but he's got,
19:48I think one of the better course percentages too,
19:50in terms of like the ice is kind of tilted in,
19:52Boston's favor when he's out there.
19:54Like he's,
19:55he's making plays happen.
19:57It's not leading to points necessarily,
19:59but he is like,
20:00you know,
20:01it's not like he's a guy that I think has been a net negative,
20:03but clearly the Bruins think that he has more to give,
20:06or he's better suited for more minutes with Providence right now.
20:10And see how it plays out.
20:12If all of a sudden they go and play a blues team,
20:14that's not all that great.
20:15And they still can't score.
20:17And guys like Geeky and Tyler Johnson and Frederick,
20:20and all these players aren't,
20:22you know,
20:23pulling on the rope.
20:24Then it looks bad in hindsight,
20:26but they clearly think that he needs just more reps down in Providence right
20:30now.
20:31And who knows,
20:32as you said,
20:33maybe he comes back in a few weeks,
20:35he puts up,
20:36you know,
20:3712 points in eight games or something like that.
20:39And it's feeling good about his game.
20:41You bring them up and he hits the,
20:43the ground or the ice running,
20:44right?
20:45Like that's probably what they're hoping for.
20:47But for right now,
20:48it's just been so out of sorts.
20:50He comes back.
20:51He's looking like the dad of the Costco guys,
20:54like big AJ,
20:55just like bringing the boom.
20:57The Bruins should like Bruins should like for a year,
21:01move like their HL team down to like New Orleans.
21:04So it's just all just like heavy.
21:06It's like,
21:07it's like the Zion Williamson diet.
21:08Like all the guys,
21:09Bumbo,
21:10Jambalaya,
21:11they just do that just to bulk up,
21:13but they probably wouldn't work.
21:14Cause I wouldn't,
21:15it wouldn't be like bulked up.
21:16They'd just be like,
21:17yeah,
21:18they'd be the opposite of what you need.
21:19Huge human beings.
21:20But yeah,
21:21I,
21:22this is interesting.
21:23We can continue diving into this Montgomery stuff,
21:26but first quick word from our friends over at game time.
21:29There's nothing like watching an NBA or NHL game live the
21:33energy in the building,
21:34the sounds on the ice or the court,
21:36the memories you make with family,
21:38friends,
21:39and other fans.
21:40It's unmatched.
21:41And the coolest part is when strangers sitting around you
21:44become your best friends.
21:46You can make these memories with game time.
21:48Game time has a new feature called game time picks that
21:51makes getting tickets to see your favorite teams play live
21:54even easier.
21:55Game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only
21:58incredible deals on great seats.
22:00So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands
22:03of tickets.
22:04Curation makes it easier to save more on sports concerts,
22:07comedy,
22:08and theater.
22:09When I use game time,
22:10I also love the flash deals,
22:11which helped me get discounted prices on really good seats.
22:14Plus who doesn't love seat views,
22:17which give a panoramic view from your seat in the app before
22:20you buy.
22:21So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time,
22:25download the game time app,
22:26create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off your first
22:30purchase.
22:31Again,
22:32terms apply,
22:33create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off download
22:39game time today.
22:40What time is it?
22:41It's game time.
22:43Now back to the show.
22:44So I think Patra getting sent down speaks to sort of a bigger
22:48problem with the Bruins.
22:49And we mentioned it before the game time read is that the
22:53secondary scores aren't scoring guys just are playing like
22:56crap.
22:57And it's rubbed off on a guy like Patra who the underlying
23:00numbers support has been good,
23:02but also really hasn't produced much of a whole lot.
23:05And it kind of goes to a bigger thing.
23:08Like,
23:09is this a Montgomery thing?
23:10You know,
23:11is his Jim Montgomery lost the room?
23:13Has he,
23:14are these guys not buying in?
23:16But again,
23:17like I go back to,
23:18you know,
23:19we talked about that third period on Saturday.
23:20Like I don't care who the coach is.
23:23That team's getting a shot on net.
23:25Like that's a team that is too,
23:27that's just out to lunch.
23:28And so again,
23:30I,
23:31to me,
23:32this team needs more of a spark.
23:33This team needs a bigger spark than just we're trading,
23:36not trading.
23:37We're firing the head coach.
23:38Jim Montgomery,
23:39get ready to learn a Winnipeg buddy.
23:41But I think they need a bigger spark.
23:43And to me,
23:44it comes down to making a trade.
23:46It's unconventional.
23:47It's not something they typically done.
23:49You don't see it a lot,
23:50but I go back to sort of the idea of trading guy like Trent
23:54Frederick,
23:55or,
23:56you know,
23:57I know geeky.
23:58I don't know what value he has.
23:59I don't know.
24:00I don't know.
24:01I don't know.
24:02I don't know.
24:03I don't know.
24:04I don't know.
24:05I don't know.
24:06Or,
24:07you know,
24:08I know geeky.
24:09I don't know what value he has right now.
24:10Like,
24:11I think Trent Frederick has some value.
24:12You can get something for it.
24:13And I also think it's sort of a little bit of a punishment to the
24:15room of like,
24:16you know,
24:17you guys want to keep playing here.
24:18You guys love Boston so much.
24:19You love this group.
24:20Well,
24:21goodbye.
24:22Like one's gone.
24:23We're putting in someone,
24:24you know,
24:25we're trading Trent Frederick,
24:26um,
24:27as sort of a,
24:28you know,
24:29smack in the ass.
24:30And so I just,
24:31to me,
24:32I think that makes more sense,
24:34um,
24:35harder to do.
24:36Probably a lot of blowback from that,
24:38but,
24:39you know,
24:40just firing the head coach.
24:41And I don't know.
24:44I don't know.
24:45What do you think?
24:46I mean,
24:47I think it was,
24:48maybe you do both.
24:49Maybe you do both.
24:50Right.
24:51I mean,
24:52I think it was Ty Anderson mentioned this a few weeks ago.
24:53I think it was like the,
24:54Oh,
24:55it's the Oh nine,
24:5610 season.
24:57I mean,
24:58it was the Oh eight Oh nine season where they started off pretty
24:59slow and surely just traded Chuck Kobus.
25:01He was just like,
25:02all right,
25:03then send the message across.
25:04Like,
25:05and again,
25:06like it wasn't an integral part of the team.
25:08Right.
25:09But still,
25:10as a guy that's been in for a couple of years,
25:11solid guy.
25:12Um,
25:13and you move them as kind of a shot across the bow.
25:14Chuck Kobus.
25:15What a name.
25:16So,
25:17but that was,
25:18I think one of those really like a trait early on in the year
25:20where it's kind of like,
25:21Hey,
25:22you guys got to get your shit in order.
25:23Right.
25:24And again,
25:25that could be something that it's a geeky or Frederick or
25:27someone like that.
25:28It sends a message,
25:29right?
25:30This is a,
25:31uh,
25:32you know,
25:33a team that has been anchored by,
25:35you know,
25:36veteran leadership and the culture in the room and the
25:38chemistry and the camaraderie and all those things.
25:40Well,
25:41if you're playing like this,
25:42you're not going to have a solid room.
25:44If you're going to have your GM moving players.
25:46I'm not saying also you trade a guy just to say you're
25:48doing it.
25:49Like,
25:50again,
25:51if it's a guy like geeky value,
25:52isn't all that great right now,
25:53but like Frederick,
25:54you could probably get something for them.
25:55Like,
25:56uh,
25:57I know when it was mentioned last week when Kevin weeks,
25:59uh,
26:00drop that kind of rumor on social media about them.
26:02It's like,
26:03could you get a Tanner Janot kind of return for a
26:05guy like that?
26:06When he's kind of a similar skillset,
26:08uh,
26:09got a shit ton of picks for a guy like Janot in
26:11that situation.
26:12So you probably could get something.
26:14I don't think the Bruins want to move a guy like
26:16Frederick,
26:17but if it's like the shakeup you need,
26:20maybe that is a situation.
26:21The Bruins,
26:22uh,
26:23do address.
26:24I still feel like they look at the coach first.
26:26That's usually how it works when these things happen.
26:29But again,
26:30like it's,
26:31you can't fire the whole team,
26:33right?
26:34But if things continue to stagnate,
26:36and as you,
26:37again,
26:38like I,
26:39I look at that game on Saturday and yes,
26:41like it feels like rock bottom for quite a few
26:44guys.
26:45And Montgomery doesn't have the answers and it's not
26:47great,
26:48but I'm more looking at like the players after a
26:50game like that.
26:51Like,
26:52is that it?
26:53Is that,
26:54is that what you're,
26:55you're showcasing here when like,
26:56you're just trying to find traction and you don't
26:58you're,
26:59you put it on cruise control for 20 minutes.
27:01Like that's where I think,
27:03yeah,
27:04the players themselves need to step up in this situation.
27:06Maybe it does require a roster tweak or two.
27:10Like,
27:11I don't,
27:12I,
27:13you hope that moving Potter wasn't the,
27:14the wake up call there.
27:15Cause I still feel like he's the guy that helps
27:16your team.
27:17But,
27:18uh,
27:19you know,
27:20maybe that is the next kind of Avenue done.
27:21Sweeney and his staff have to take in terms of
27:22waking this team up because it's,
27:24again,
27:25it's way too much stop and start.
27:26Like we just,
27:27how many times have they had a,
27:28a good win,
27:29uh,
27:30you know,
27:31a good stretch here or there.
27:32You're like,
27:33all right,
27:34getting back on track,
27:35feeling good away.
27:36They are not perfect,
27:37not a 60 minute effort,
27:38but wins a win trending in the right direction.
27:39And then you have that game against Ottawa.
27:41And it's like,
27:42all right,
27:43back to the drawing board,
27:44I guess like something needs to change.
27:46Well,
27:47that's the thing.
27:48And that's why,
27:49like,
27:50you know,
27:51I think people,
27:52I haven't,
27:53I at least have not yet said like they should
27:54fire Montgomery or they shouldn't.
27:55I haven't talked about it.
27:56And I think one of the reasons that I'm having
27:58such a tough time,
27:59you know,
28:00getting to that point of being like,
28:02yep,
28:03they need to fire them is because so much of
28:05this is player driven.
28:06And so much of it is the player's fault.
28:08And I know that when that's the case,
28:10that's the coach that usually goes,
28:12I understand that the logical move here and
28:14what some might assume is the next move is
28:16to just fire Jim Montgomery.
28:17But I don't,
28:18I,
28:19I think the problem does run deeper than that.
28:21I mean,
28:22again,
28:23when you're getting no shots in the third
28:24quarter,
28:25you have no five on five score and your
28:27power play stinks.
28:28You're,
28:29you know,
28:30like,
28:31yeah,
28:32coach could come in and change a few things
28:33stylistically.
28:34And we've talked about those things.
28:35I mean,
28:36shooting the puck more.
28:37Montgomery did move Hampus Lindholm to the
28:38top power play unit on Monday at practice.
28:40Maybe that is a,
28:41you know,
28:42another kind of gasp at trying something like,
28:44but a lot of it's just,
28:46you know,
28:47lack of effort,
28:48not winning board battles,
28:50like not getting to loose pucks.
28:53You know,
28:54stupid penalties,
28:56like offensive zone penalties.
29:00And that's why I think this team needs to
29:02sort of be threatened with like,
29:03Hey,
29:04we're going to kick you off the island.
29:05Like,
29:06I think that it's absolutely a fair thing
29:09to do.
29:10And,
29:11you know,
29:12I think maybe you see both,
29:13maybe you see both.
29:14And then there's also the element of,
29:16and I don't see,
29:17cause I was thinking about this as we were
29:18talking about this being like,
29:20you know,
29:21we're still in the playoffs.
29:23They haven't been this average in a long time.
29:25Maybe we're just overreacting,
29:27but I don't think we are because no shots
29:30in the third period is dreadful up and down
29:33play.
29:34Just as all the things I just mentioned are
29:36not,
29:37you know,
29:38overreacting that stuff stinks like that is
29:40bad hockey.
29:41By the way,
29:42I did look up that Chuck Kobus who trade,
29:44this is from a bleacher report article in
29:46October 19th,
29:472009.
29:48I was,
29:50I was in fifth grade.
29:51I think I was in fifth grade.
29:53So,
29:54uh,
29:55the Bruins and Minnesota wild pulled off a
29:57trade,
29:58Craig Weller,
29:59a second round pick and the rights to
30:01prospect Alexander Falstrom to the Bruins for
30:03Kobus,
30:04who I wonder what that second round pick
30:06ended up being.
30:07Um,
30:08yeah.
30:09Ninth pick the Bruins holding the first.
30:11Yeah.
30:12The second round pick second round draft
30:14pick represents the ninth pick the Bruins
30:16holding the first or second rounds of the
30:182010 and the 2011 draft.
30:20Um,
30:21and then they mentioned,
30:22uh,
30:23with all those,
30:24this writer,
30:25I don't know who it is.
30:26His name is Anthony Emerson.
30:28All those are Ryan.
30:29His name is Connor Ryan.
30:30Oh,
30:31it's Ty Anderson.
30:32Uh,
30:33with all those draft picks in the Bruins
30:35possession,
30:36the Bruins might try and pull off a bigger
30:38move.
30:39One name I've heard is Ilya Kovalchuk.
30:41Kovalchuk is among the best players in the
30:43NHL.
30:44So he was at the thrashers.
30:45Um,
30:46Bruins could send no more than four of
30:48those.
30:49Uh,
30:50oh,
30:51he mentioned Marco Sturm,
30:52which actually ended up happening.
30:53Sturm got traded.
30:54I think the beginning of the next year.
30:55So yeah,
30:56no Kovalchuk.
30:57It didn't end up happening.
30:58Kovalchuk to the Bruins.
30:59Never,
31:00never came to fruition.
31:01Um,
31:02I just,
31:03I'm,
31:04I'm not there yet with,
31:05uh,
31:06with,
31:07uh,
31:08firing Montgomery.
31:09I'm not quite there yet.
31:10I see it.
31:11I understand it.
31:12I would not be shocked if it happens.
31:13I'm like,
31:14every time I check my phone and I see I
31:15have a Bruins tweet notification,
31:16I'm waiting for that to be the thing.
31:17I just don't know if it's the right
31:18move.
31:19Uh,
31:20right.
31:21And you might,
31:22again,
31:23like if they fired him,
31:24uh,
31:25you might see them,
31:26you know,
31:27win for their next five.
31:28But again,
31:29I wonder what are they after those,
31:30that little burst?
31:31What are they after?
31:32If they're,
31:33if they're great,
31:34then like,
31:35all right,
31:36perfect.
31:37Like that's,
31:38that was the right move.
31:39Good job,
31:40Don Sweeney,
31:41but boom,
31:42but I don't know.
31:43I'm not fully confident that that's,
31:44that that is the,
31:45the answer yet.
31:46We could,
31:47I mean,
31:48I'm,
31:49I was going to get into some Lena Solmark
31:50stuff real quick.
31:51Um,
31:52I guess we'll do it here.
31:53Um,
31:54obviously Omar back in Boston,
31:56uh,
31:57I think you and Ty covered this pretty
31:58good last week on,
32:00um,
32:01poke the bear.
32:02So I don't want to,
32:03you know,
32:04rehash all that.
32:05Um,
32:06but one thought I had was like with
32:07their,
32:08you know,
32:09average start,
32:10is there a case to be made that they
32:11just should never even traded Lena
32:12Solmark of that?
32:13You have the two goalie tandem again.
32:14And my answer to that is no,
32:15you did the right thing.
32:16You traded him.
32:17You did the right thing.
32:18If they had ever kept him,
32:19there would have been a revolt.
32:20And we know what that would have
32:22looked like.
32:23Um,
32:24so I,
32:25I'm not like that.
32:26I'm,
32:27I assume you're in the same camp.
32:28I am on that.
32:29Yeah.
32:30And I mean,
32:31also,
32:32you know,
32:33Don Sweeney mentioned it like both
32:34guys wanted to play 50 plus games
32:35next year.
32:36Like even lane,
32:37Lena Solmark,
32:38and some of the time mentioned that
32:39was kind of lost in the shuffle last
32:40year is during the playoffs when it
32:41was clear that Jeremy's frame was
32:42going to get all the starts the rest
32:43of the way.
32:44All marks.
32:45Like,
32:46yeah,
32:47there's some days that are better
32:48than others in terms of his approach.
32:49Like dude,
32:50as much as listen,
32:51they're,
32:52they're best buds.
32:53They got the hug.
32:54They're both also hyper competitive
32:55professional athletes.
32:56You take a lot of pride in their
32:57respective games.
32:58All marks,
32:59a guy that has a Vesna on his
33:00resume,
33:01right?
33:02Like there's still a guy that,
33:03yes,
33:04before this is still a guy that,
33:05um,
33:06wants the net like,
33:07and it's a great partnership,
33:08but something had to give this year.
33:09And again,
33:10like,
33:11I think the Bronze,
33:12you look at setting up,
33:13you know,
33:14a Swainman to be your franchise goalie,
33:15freeing up the money to,
33:16you know,
33:17sign him to an extension,
33:18freeing up money to,
33:19uh,
33:20address other needs in the off season,
33:21all that played into it.
33:22But the end of the day,
33:23it just wasn't feasible having both
33:24those guys in there.
33:25So I couldn't see any situation in
33:26which you roll,
33:27roll back those two guys.
33:28Even if you have both guys in that
33:29this year,
33:30that's great.
33:31And you're probably not seven,
33:32seven and two,
33:33but are you,
33:34you know,
33:35are,
33:36are you 14?
33:37Are you the,
33:38what are you,
33:39are you the,
33:40are you the,
33:41are you the Winnipeg Jets 14,
33:42one and whatever they are,
33:43right?
33:44Like,
33:45I don't think that's the case because
33:46you're still not scoring goals.
33:47So I think that also plays into it.
33:48Well,
33:49Lena Solmark goal score.
33:50True.
33:51I don't know.
33:52Maybe it gives you something.
33:53Um,
33:54yeah,
33:55it's a weird time.
33:56And again,
33:57like just to roll over Bruins are in
33:58St.
33:59Louis Tuesday night.
34:00Uh,
34:01then they move on to play at Dallas.
34:02That's not an easy game.
34:03Um,
34:04and then they're home again against
34:05St.
34:06Louis on Saturday.
34:07Um,
34:08I don't know.
34:10Um,
34:11again,
34:12I just,
34:13I wonder how those go.
34:14And I wonder if we're sitting here in a
34:15week or even at the end of the week
34:17with a very different landscape,
34:19whether it be,
34:20they won a bunch of games or J
34:22leeches,
34:23the head coach.
34:24Like I,
34:25I,
34:26that's why it is.
34:27It's an interesting time for us
34:28because we've never had this before.
34:30Cassidy was sort of out of the blue.
34:31Yeah.
34:32Um,
34:33they've always been really good while
34:34we've done this.
34:35So it's usually like,
34:36you know,
34:37November 11th,
34:38you know,
34:39it's,
34:40it's,
34:41it's,
