00:25I'm Evan Maranofsky, that's Connor Ryan.
00:28Connor, what is up?
00:29Evan, I'm doing well.
00:31How you doing?
00:32Doing great.
00:33Doing great.
00:34I've been, this morning, I finally, I don't know why it took me forever to see that tweet
00:41about Matthew Kachuk just dummying Semyon Barlamov in front of the net.
00:47And my first thought, first of all, first thought, I don't know how the play, the rest
00:49of the play turned out, looked like Scott Mayfield and some of those Islanders guys
00:52were kind of on top of Kachuk.
00:55But I tweeted this out.
00:56I was like, I think Tim Thomas would have, like, pulled a gun at Kachuk.
01:02That would have been just, would have broke his brain.
01:05He would have went nuts on Matthew Kachuk, and it would have been awesome to watch.
01:10But that was my first thought, was like, someone like Tim Thomas would just lose his mind at
01:14a guy like Matthew Kachuk on that play.
01:16I think Jeremy Swinwood would be, like, pumped because he's like, finally, like, I can get
01:20into a fight.
01:21I'm going to slash the shit out of his knee, right in the back of his leg, like, and do
01:25that and cause a fight like I, so I would probably be excited that it finally happened.
01:29So yeah, again, the Panthers and Matthew Kachuk are very good at what they do of getting under
01:36your skin.
01:37But like, you got to call one of those things like, yeah, they must have dirt on the NHL
01:42because it's great.
01:43None of that get called like I give full credit to the Panthers of how good they are at being
01:48the fly in the ointment, getting teams to lose their minds, those things.
01:52But like, what factors into that as to why teams lose their minds if they get away with
01:58that shit and then you start chasing them instead of the play and then it all goes downhill
02:02and then they strike on it like I can see like the Panthers are very good at what they
02:06do, but you can see why that's that breaks the brains of some of these opposing teams
02:12when things like that aren't getting called.
02:15It's funny how like Brazil like moves like a stick, like a centimeter on that goalie
02:20interference call that was taken back like two weeks ago, but then you have like a Chuck
02:24just like just sort of crosschecking of our lamas like right in the face and nothing happens
02:29off of that.
02:30It's again not trying to be too much of a complainer here about Kachuk and the Panthers,
02:34but you got to call at least one of those things.
02:35You got to step in once in a while.
02:37You can let them, you know, toe the line, all those things.
02:40But at some point, give them two minutes.
02:44So it's not saying you got to kick them out of the game.
02:46Give them two minutes like you can't do that the entire time.
02:48Well, that's the thing.
02:49I mean, even like after the goal, kind of as he goes by of our lamas sort of punches
02:52him in the head, which is like classic Matthew Kachuk.
02:55And I mean, I agree, like we always get on the Bruins for being undisciplined against
02:59the Panthers and sort of losing their minds.
03:02But like the team knocked me out of the playoffs two straight years just doing shit like that,
03:07punching my captain in the face like I'd probably lose my mind a little bit on him.
03:12Like I probably would, you know, sort of be unhinged.
03:15But yeah, they're good at that.
03:17Like they are.
03:18They have perfected sort of just towing that line, and I don't know why they get away with
03:23so much of it.
03:24Obviously, the punch on Marcian from Bennett, I don't think any of us saw that in the moment
03:29that had to be.
03:30I think that came out just through like Twitter, right?
03:33Like because in the moment it was like, oh, I don't really know what that was.
03:35It was only off of like the other angle.
03:37I think you could really see it.
03:38It was like it's like there's a Bruder film at first.
03:41You didn't really know what exactly was happening.
03:42Then it was I think it was right before.
03:45What was it like?
03:46I want to say like it was like it was right hour before like puck drop.
03:50The other angle dropped and I was like, oh, all right, like because I think it's right
03:55after it was after like it was already announced that there was going to be no additional discipline
04:00or something for Bennett.
04:02So there's a whole whole to do there in terms of how that played out.
04:05And they were like, oh, here's this angle, you know, it should it should support our
04:08decision for no supplemental discipline, right?
04:10You know, easily punched him in the face.
04:14So anyway, that's our little Panthers minute Bruins, though, they they get a big win Saturday
04:20for three overtime win over the Leafs on Friday.
04:24Diver and I did a Bruins beat where we kind of talked through the whole idea of is Jim
04:28Montgomery on the hot seat?
04:29And I think it's it was a valid thing to to talk about.
04:33Neither of us really said yes or no to him being fired.
04:37It was sort of just kind of running through the whole situation, evaluating all angles
04:41because, again, and I stand by this.
04:43Good teams don't impulsively fire a coach.
04:46Great teams don't fire a coach who's been highly successful in the regular season.
04:51Although I will say I'm watching that the comeback on Netflix and by God, Grady Little
04:56seems like a complete idiot.
04:58I want to read some that way.
05:00I watched the first episode, so it made me very sad where it ends on a traumatic moment
05:06in young Connor's life.
05:09Yes.
05:10But I'm like watching.
05:11I'm like, how much money do they give Grady Little to do this?
05:13It's pretty much them to sit him down there and be like, yeah, you really fucked this
05:16up, didn't you?
05:17It's like the opium, like trashing him like I was like, how did I get him for this?
05:21Like when they even got Henry's whole purpose of like just destroying him, they even got
05:26John Henry.
05:27But yeah, they got John Henry not only to do an interview to do an interview for this,
05:32but also to say on the record in that moment, he said, can we fire?
05:35Do we have to wait till the end of the game to fire him?
05:37Like, yeah, it was just it's a great documentary, by the way, for those who want to watch a
05:42good documentary.
05:43I highly recommend it.
05:46But I do.
05:47I do.
05:48I don't think that it's good for organizations to just be like, oh, you had three straight
05:52bad games.
05:53Goodbye, Jim.
05:54But we kind of talk through all that.
05:56Obviously, though, a big win on a Saturday night against your chief rival or one of your
06:01chief rivals in the Leafs definitely cools the seat down.
06:04I think good 60 minute effort, albeit for that kind of last goal that that Matthew scored
06:11there at the end.
06:13What do you think this does for the Bruins in general?
06:15Just getting that win?
06:16Yeah, I mean, I think it was much needed, right?
06:19As you said, it's unfortunate that you have that brutal miscommunication right at the
06:24end of the game, because for most of that game, it felt like a really professional solid
06:29win.
06:30Again, I don't think any it's few and far between for any team to have a 60 minute effort.
06:35I think you saw consistent puck pressure, sustained ozone time for most of that third
06:39period.
06:40Like they were really limiting the high danger chances like it looked like a professional
06:45closeout kind of game, right?
06:47Like a lot to be encouraged by.
06:49You have, again, like your bottom six contributing.
06:53And again, like by no means was it perfect, right?
06:55You're still we can run through a whole list if we wanted to have things you have to get
06:58better.
06:59I think as a whole, like the urgency was finally there, which I think has been lacking a little
07:05bit during this recent rut that they've had.
07:08So yeah, I think as a whole, it's a step in the right direction.
07:11It's all about how you build off of it, right?
07:13Like you've got a Flyers team on Tuesday that's kind of fighting through it as well.
07:17Like you're able to hopefully stack some positive games together here before you go down to
07:22Carolina.
07:23And again, like you just look at the way they played.
07:26I think that was the biggest thing.
07:27Like it was they were moving their feet.
07:30They didn't take a billion penalties like these previous games, right, which is a step
07:35in the right direction.
07:36But yeah, I just think the urgency, the puck pressure, putting, you know, opposing defenses
07:43under duress, forcing turnovers.
07:46Not anything too crazy in terms of how they approach the game, but the results kind of
07:51speak for themselves.
07:52And it's just off of playing simple, motivated hockey.
07:56And I think you finally saw that, which I think at this point, you know, without getting
07:59too far ahead of yourselves, that's all you're looking for right now.
08:02Like this team is not going to be a finished product.
08:05No team is on October 26 when that game was played.
08:08There's a lot of moving pieces, a lot of new additions to this team.
08:11So it's going to take a while for them to really be a well-oiled machine.
08:15So when you have these stretches here where the puck's not going in the net, you're not
08:19generating a lot.
08:20It's all about just playing simple, simple hockey.
08:22And I think you saw that.
08:23And that was a step in the right direction for this team on Saturday night.
08:26Yeah.
08:27You're not going to clean up every issue in one game.
08:30I don't care if you win seven, nothing.
08:31There's still issues there.
08:33And I, I agree with you.
08:34I think Saturday was a great step in the right direction.
08:37I, this just shows Toronto, still Toronto.
08:41Like Matthew scores that, that winner or not the winner of the game, tying goal late in
08:45the third.
08:46They're getting behind the Bruins D and then just in overtime, getting forced by a great
08:51play by Marcian on the four check to force Matthews to have to dish that puck off.
08:56And I think he was trying to get it to Marner because he thought Marner was coming back
08:59for it.
09:00And instead went right to the, right to the bench.
09:03Um, and it's just the same problems that plague them.
09:07And I know it's October and there's a long way until April and may, but it is incredible
09:13to watch them just shoot themselves in the foot in the biggest moments.
09:17And they've been doing it now for ever forever.
09:19There's a story in the athletic, I think today or Monday, um, on sort of the, like they,
09:25they sort of compared being a Leafs fan with being a Cubs fan for all those years.
09:28Like it's staggering, but it's sort of true.
09:31Like when, when the Leafs do finally break through, which again, they will at some point
09:35it will happen.
09:36I'm sorry, Bruins fans.
09:37Like it will happen at some point.
09:38Um, they've come very close at least to getting past the Bruins.
09:42Um, it will be very satisfying for their, for their fans.
09:45I mean, that, that is going to be a, an incredible feeling for them.
09:49Um, but God, like that, just the, the turnover turnover to no one and Marner going to the
09:54bench.
09:55It's like, my God, like still the same thing.
09:57I know they've had issues too.
10:00They've had issues for the first month.
10:02It's always like the same thing too, or just like one play that, that, that burns them.
10:05Right.
10:06Cause I even think like the team that they have out there is taking steps in the right
10:10direction.
10:11Like I think still are, this is like a, uh, actually a pretty solid goalie that could
10:15have a pretty good season.
10:17You like what you saw from Joseph wall last year.
10:19And then he seems like he's got these injury issues to watch out for, but like they at
10:23least have goalies in place that like could have more to give there.
10:27I'm not saying these guys are also going to be on the Vesna watch, but you got that and
10:31you get like guys like Chris Tannev, um, you know, some of their D have been, you know,
10:35better than they were in years past.
10:37You've got supporting cast like Matthew Nyes.
10:39I feel like Matthew Nyes is going to be the new player.
10:41Yeah.
10:42I feel like he's going to be the new Hyman too, where he's, or like, just going to go
10:46between here or like Edmonton and just be a 40 goal guy.
10:48Like I think he's a good player, but also like he knows what he needs to do on lines
10:53with some of these star players to be in the right spots to cash in.
10:56So like, they've got a good supporting cast.
10:58They've got the star talent just feels like it's always like the one missed read or something
11:03like that always comes back to bite them.
11:04So, um, yeah, their team had also is kind of in this tough sliding, but maybe they're
11:08also in kind of the same boat as the Bruins where you bring in Ruby.
11:12You're trying to, I think, change your identity and I don't know if they have the personnel
11:16to match what they're trying to do in terms of being maybe a tougher opponent, but I think
11:20they're probably in that same feeling out process as the Bruins where it's, you're,
11:24you're trying to make a little bit of a sea change here and we'll kind of see again where
11:28they are once we get to April as well.
11:30Yeah.
11:31I mean, they have new coaching.
11:32They have a new coaching staff.
11:33The Bruins had a lot of roster turnover in the last two years.
11:35I agree.
11:36That's an apt comparison.
11:37Um, another one, fourth line, they're both, they're both going to be in the playoff.
11:41They're both going to be in the first round once again, where do we, yes, yes, I, I fully
11:46expect it.
11:47Uh, fourth line though, cashed in again, beautiful assist from Johnny Beecher cast to look out
11:51in front.
11:52So this line continues to produce, they'd been a little slow, uh, or they weren't producing
11:56at the same level that they were before against Nashville, uh, and Dallas, but they keep it
12:01going against Toronto, uh, which is, which is very, very good.
12:06Biggest thing though, for me was Brad Martian.
12:07I want to get to Brad Martian first, a quick word from our friends over at prize picks

13:32Now back to the show.
13:34So Brad Marsh and finally monkey off the back scores.
13:38The OT winner gets robbed on the first chance, by the way, like completely robbed by stole
13:42our play.
13:43Oh God, this is happening again because he's had some legitimate chances.
13:47Like I mean, I know he has not been their best player or even close to their best player
13:51or even close to what sort of his best case scenario is through the first bunch of games.
13:55But there have been chances to score goals.
13:58He's been robbed a fair amount, robbed on that play, stuck with it.
14:02Scores after, you know, a nice four check.
14:05I found it very telling that his goal celebration was just slamming his stick on the ice because
14:10that has to be the best feeling of like, thank God I finally like finally it's done.
14:15I think it's really important that he scored that you get him going.
14:19You give him a little more confidence.
14:20I know after the game, he said, you know, he doesn't really think about that goal is
14:23the drought stuff.
14:24And again, come on, gets on everybody.
14:27And again, you need more from him.
14:29You have needed more from him.
14:32He's in your, you know, he's on your top line.
14:34He's in your top six.
14:35I think Saturday again, right step in the step in the right direction for him.
14:39Yeah, exactly.
14:40And I think as you said, like he he told the company line, right of, you know, it's I don't
14:44really get too worried about these gold droughts.
14:46But I think he also relented later on and said like, good to finally get one because
14:51I think it wasn't just one for him.
14:52It's for the team, right?
14:53Because if they after playing probably their best start to finish game, I would probably
14:58say maybe since the Colorado game, having two points right there and then to potentially
15:04lose that game in overtime would have been not a backbreaker, but just another step back
15:09for demoralizing.
15:10Yeah, a team that is in desperate need of good news.
15:13So I think it was key for him to get on the board there.
15:17And, you know, you just hope it starts building a little bit of momentum there.
15:20You look at like that second line with him and coil, we're still what going into the
15:25ninth game for the Bruins.
15:27And I think those two still have zero goals and one assist at five and five play.
15:32Like got to get them rolling.
15:34Like as we said, it doesn't need to be all of a sudden this team's averaging seven goals
15:38the next two weeks and everyone's firing off, but you just need one more guy in a top six
15:43spot there to get, get on a roll and at least shoulder some of that scoring burden.
15:47You know, like this team needs a two goal game from a Pasternak or they need a, you
15:53know, Brezo to keep up what he's been doing or something like that.
15:56You just need like a few other guys to pull on the rope right now as you're trying to
15:59get your footing and hopefully a Philly team that has a lot of skill.
16:04Mitchcoff has been unreal for them who could have seen that coming, but that is a team
16:08with some defensive deficiencies that you hope that, you know, if a guy like Marchant
16:11can build off of that and get another goal or coil or someone like that, or even got
16:16like Morgan geeky, who Jim Montgomery today was very short.
16:20Scott McLaughlin of EI asked him, where does geeky have to do to get better?
16:24And he says, play better.
16:25I was like, Oh, I saw that.
16:27That was great.
16:28I was like, Oh God.
16:30But this is a time now where, you know, you look at how much a guy like Martian can provide
16:35a lift for this team, especially at five on five play, just scoring in general.
16:40You do hope that Tuesday or Saturday's game rather is kind of that, that jumping off point
16:46for him.
16:47And he kind of builds on it, not, you know, not expecting him to be what he was a few
16:50years ago, but I still think he has the skill and the means to be like a 60 point regular
16:55guy in the NHL.
16:57Right?
16:58Yeah.
16:59And that's, that's the biggest thing I think with him, where it's like, I think fans have
17:02to understand that he's not the same 80 point guy, you know, he's not going to be lighting
17:06it up, but if you can get that, you know, 55, 60 point range, like if you can get that,
17:13that's going to be valuable.
17:14That's going to be valuable playing next to guys like Lindholm or Coyle.
17:17But again, as you're right, Coyle does need to get going.
17:20And Philly is a perfect spot for sort of guys like that to get going.
17:24Breazeau is getting his feet under him.
17:27He has goals in two straight games again, around the net front, like that's, that's
17:32where he makes his money.
17:33That's where he's going to make his money.
17:35And I think he's another candidate for sort of top six minutes.
17:38Like maybe that's your internal fix because I want to talk about Tyler Johnson, but there's
17:44another thing I want to talk about, which is the future of Brad Martian.
17:47It was brought up after Saturday's game, but first quick word from our friends over at
17:52game time.

19:04What time is it?
19:05It's game time.
19:07Now back to the show.
19:09So on Saturday, Elliot Friedman brought up the fact that the Bruins and Brad Marchand
19:13were close on a three-year contract extension.
19:16Obviously Marchand's contract runs out at the end of this year and Marchand was asked
19:20after the game and shot it down to say the least.
19:25Poor Elliot Friedman.
19:26He threw Elliot directly under the bus and drove over him and saying that it's false.
19:32It's not true.
19:33Not going to talk about the contract situation.
19:34And by the way, the reporting was false.
19:36Screw you, Elliot.
19:37Um, so that was also saying that he doesn't like talking through, he doesn't like talking
19:41about contracts with the media, but then once again, reaffirmed that Elliot Friedman was
19:44wrong.
19:45He doesn't like talking about contracts with the media, but by doing so talking about contracts
19:50in the media.
19:51Um, I think it brings up an interesting point, obviously like Elliot is very tapped in, um,
19:57my whole thing.
19:58And like, I know you agree with me on this.
20:00Like I fully expected like Monday morning or at some point this week for that news to
20:03drop of like three year contract extension for Marchand, um, and it'll be like Elliot
20:08to break it to, which will be great.
20:09I thought it was going to be like, he signed a three year and one day contract.
20:13Like just so you can be like Freeman was, no, he's not right, but it was a three year
20:17one.
20:18Like I was totally expecting something like that.
20:20The one day for the retirement the next year, I, that would actually be like the most Brad
20:25Marchand thing to possibly do.
20:27Um, it does bring up an interesting point though, of, you know, obviously Marchand has
20:32struggled a bit through the first bunch of games.
20:36Um, as we've talked about, got his first goal on Saturday night.
20:39Um, and you know, I saw a little bit of this on Twitter of, you know, if it was a three
20:44year extension, would you want him for another three years?
20:47And to me, like, and we've talked about Marchand's regression and, you know, he's going to be
20:5137 in May, had three off season surgeries, had double hip surgery, uh, two years ago.
20:57Like he's not the same guy that, um, you know, they, Bruins had a couple of years ago,
21:03but like if you did three years at a good number, like I'm fine with that.
21:08I mean, he's your captain.
21:10I think we all understand that, that he's not going to be that, you know, best left
21:14wing and hockey guy that if in year three of that contract, which I think he'll be like
21:1839 or 40, um, if he's a fourth line left wing, like you take it, it just comes down to like,
21:25how much does his game break down over those three years?
21:28And what are you paying him?
21:29Cause you're already kind of getting a deal on him.
21:32I doubt that he would be like, I want, I want, I want to be fairly compensated.
21:36I want to make more money than I should this time around.
21:38But I do think you have to consider those things in that whole debate.
21:42Yeah, no, I mean, I think the biggest question is going to be just what the payout is.
21:47Right.
21:47Because I think over three years, as you said, like, even if he regresses, right.
21:52And becomes maybe more of like a third line kind of player.
21:54I think he can still help out your team.
21:56You know, you look at the, the energy he brings, how good he is defensively.
22:00Like he could morph into a really, really good bottom six guy.
22:03If we get to the final year of that contract.
22:05I'm sure Brian Martian doesn't want to hear about that, of thinking that he's going to
22:08be like a more of a Swiss army knife kind of player.
22:11But like, you can see where, if that is the path that just his, his career kind of goes
22:17in how we can still be a really useful player.
22:19Even if maybe he's a 20 goal, 20 assist, two way penalty kill kind of guy.
22:25He he'll help out this team over the, I think the span of that deal, barring injury or anything
22:29like that.
22:31But it's going to come down to just what the money is.
22:33Right.
22:33Like, is he going to take a page out of Bergeron and Charles book, which you think over a three
22:38year deal, he's not going to just lock himself into that.
22:41Right.
22:42Like a million a year.
22:43Yeah.
22:44But is it, are you looking for like a six million, like maybe a slight decrease, but
22:49still like pretty solid for a guy that, you know, has obviously done a lot for this team.
22:53Are you looking at it being prorated of it being like 3 million, which I think is probably
22:59more manageable in terms of just where the cap is going.
23:02And again, this is a guy that has been on a bargain deal for most of his career, like
23:076.25 for what he's given you for the last, you know, seven plus years is very, very impressive.
23:14But I think that's the biggest question mark is just what that money comes out to.
23:17Maybe that's why this could take a while for them to come to terms on a deal, just
23:23in terms of what he's looking for, what the team is looking for.
23:26Again, famous last words after the entire streaming fiasco.
23:30I can't imagine this being something that becomes contentious, but it is fascinating
23:35to see just what that final, what that final payout is going to be, because this is a guy
23:39that wants to be here, wants to keep on playing.
23:41He's made that abundantly clear, especially the Olympics around the corner.
23:45He's motivated to play at a high level, not just for the Bruins, but also because he wants
23:49to make a legitimate run at the Canadian team for the Olympics.
23:54Like he wants to be on that line with Crosby and McKinnon, but he also has to play to level
23:59deserving because Canada doesn't have a lot of goalies, but they've got a whole lot of
24:03really skilled forward.
24:04So yeah, this is a guy that's very motivated, obviously, to get to that stage, to keep up
24:10that level with the Bruins.
24:12I'm not worried about the value per se or the concerns about a three-year deal.
24:18It's just what the money is.
24:19I'm more just curious, I would say, as to what that contract is going to look like,
24:23if it is indeed three years, three years in one day, whatever it ends up being.
24:28My concern with it is not so much him and it's not so much the money, because again,
24:35the money will be reasonable.
24:36He's not going to be asking for seven or 6.25.
24:39I think it's going to come in somewhere around the five range or something like that.
24:43It's more so, as I kind of said, moving back in the lineup as he moves, whether it's
24:49staying in the second line, moving to the third line, potentially around year two or
24:53three, do the Bruins have the guys to replace him in the top six?
24:59To me, that's the big thing because again, you can make an argument now he's more of
25:04a middle six forward than a top line guy, which is fine.
25:08He's still going to produce this year, still going to put in 60 something points.
25:12But next year, the year after, then the year after that, as he gets older, and again, a
25:16lot can change.
25:17They can draft well, they can make a trade to bolster the top six free agency, however
25:23it is.
25:23But just looking at the game board now, you don't have anyone in Providence outside of
25:29Fabian Lysel and he's a right wing to be a top line or projects to be a high end left
25:37winger.
25:39Like a Zaka that I would say Zaka fits more of Martians mold of like a 60 point guy, which
25:44is fine.
25:45Like again, but that's the whole thing is like, what's the, how are you replacing his
25:49production?
25:50Because Jake Dabrowski left in the off season.
25:52So like Dabrowski is gone.
25:55Do you, you know, do you at this deadline, do you trade a first for a left wing with
25:59a ton of term?
26:00Like that you can lock up for a while.
26:01That's young.
26:02I don't know who that is yet.
26:03But like, that's my thing is like who, who replaces that production in the top six?
26:08Cause again, I think everybody wants to see Martian hoist the cup at least one more time.
26:12I mean, I think that's fitting.
26:14Captain Martian hoisting the cup would be awesome for the league.
26:18Piss everybody off.
26:19Bruins fans would love it.
26:20Like it would just, the whole thing of that would be great.
26:24But I, that's my big thing is who is, who's replacing that production in the top six.
26:31And we don't know that now.
26:32We're not going to know that now, but I'm just curious, like what their plan is to actually
26:37get that in these next couple of years.
26:39So yeah.
26:40And I couldn't, couldn't tell you Evan, do you?
26:42Yeah, I was going to say, I was like, I was going to pass on the ball to me because I,
26:46I'm like the guy in like the fifth row and like the NBA game.
26:49He's not paying attention.
26:50And the ball hits me as I'm eating popcorn in the head.
26:53Like I couldn't tell you as to what the exact plan is.
26:56It's going to either someone's going to have to take off like within the system.
27:01Um, or it's going to have to be again, whether it's, I don't know if it's a trade this year,
27:06but monitoring that or what the free agent market looks like.
27:10But yeah, like in terms of just scoring on the wing, it's, it's something where
27:13the Bruins had plenty of options forever in terms of just between Marchand and
27:17DeBrusk and everyone like that.
27:19Um, where you're like, oh, they've got enough guys.
27:21We'll see where it fits.
27:22But now you've got to rebuild your center depth, obviously.
27:25And you've got Lindholm, you've got Patra, you've got, you know, guys in place and it's
27:29better than where it was.
27:30And you have Lucherno, you know, down at BC.
27:32So you've got options there.
27:35Yeah, of course.
27:35Yes.
27:35Never forget honorary Bruin, James Higgins, but, um, but you know, you at least have,
27:41I think you're in a better spot there, both in the short term and you hope the long term,
27:45but you have guys that, um, could step into those roles at wing.
27:50Maybe that's the next thing this team has to look at, you know, in terms of the draft or
27:53what have you, where, you know, as opposed to, we all knew the Bruins are going to look down
27:58the middle, most likely with their, their first round pick, they regained with the all-mark
28:02trade.
28:03But, um, if they have their first this year and there's a guy that's putting up numbers,
28:08having 40, 50 goals in the WHL or, uh, someone like that, maybe that's what they look at as
28:14a pure kind of scoring winger as kind of their next kind of need, uh, through the draft.
28:19Cause it does feel like that has to be something that has to be addressed.
28:21And just, you know, you're not going to get a, a, uh, a slim dunk, you know, guy, if you're
28:27picking like in the twenties or wherever they end up picking, but you got to give yourself
28:31options.
28:31And I think that's probably the next thing you're looking at for the Bruins is probably
28:34a, uh, it's a little bit more skill on the wing.
28:37I think moving forward.
28:38Yeah.
28:39I'm going to throw the basketball directly at your face.
28:42If you're eating popcorn with this next question.
28:44Yeah, I, I, I, I'm ready for it now, so I won't be able to stop it, but I'll leave it
28:49like hands up.
28:50Yeah, exactly.
28:51The oval Redenbach is not going 20 rows behind me.
28:54Yeah.
28:54The popcorn it's the popcorn is down beneath you.
28:57Um, let's say, let's say the Bruins around the deadline are, are comfortably outside
29:06of the playoff picture, which they shouldn't be, by the way, like that this probably won't
29:09happen.
29:10But in the event that they were, and Martian was not yet locked up on a contract and a
29:15team comes to you offering like a first round pick or something for Martian, would you say
29:21yes?
29:22I mean, does Martian have trade protection?
29:24Cause I feel like he wouldn't.
29:25I would have to learn.
29:26Yeah.
29:28And here's the other thing with that, right?
29:30It's your captain.
29:31He's the, he's that bridge to the culture that Chara and Bergeron built so well.
29:36And I, I, that's a guy who's hires a Bruin.
29:41Like this organization would not trade Brad Martian.
29:43That's the other part of it.
29:45Yeah.
29:45It would be jarring if this team was outside of the playoff picture, but I also think when
29:49you look at how many guys they have signed that are here in their primes or around that,
29:54between McAvoy and Swayman and Elias Lindholm and all these players, like even if it's the
30:00fan this year, I could fully see the Bruins being like, oh, this is a really bad blip,
30:04but we're not selling the, we're not blowing it up like the Rangers a few years ago.
30:08Like we'll make some tweaks, obviously, whether that's coaching or tweaks to the roster, but
30:13I don't think they'd, you know, do a full fire sale or something like that.
30:17You know, I assume this team is too invested in what this current group is that, um, if
30:23things do go awry, I don't see them all of a sudden jettisoning kind of the plan they've
30:27kind of put in place in this kind of post Bergeron era.
30:30Yeah.
30:31According to spot track modified, no trade clause from 22 to 24.
30:35So, um, that's what that is.
30:37And that's what that is.
30:38Yeah.
30:38I agree with you.
30:39And I, again, now I will play devil's advocate.
30:42If you were to deal him, I don't think that would be a full rebuild.
30:45I think that's one move you're bolstering, whether it be a prospect in a first or whatever
30:49it is like sort of retooling on the fly.
30:52But again, it would be unlike them to actually do that.
30:55Right?
30:55He's the captain.
30:57And that guy should retire a Bruin.
30:59Like, I think we all can agree on that.
31:01So I like to bring up those hypothetical situations.
31:03Keep keep everybody on their toes.
31:05Like to think of the box.
31:07Keep everybody going.
31:08Um, some help, some potential help for the wing.
31:11Tyler Johnson still remains unsigned.
31:14I feel like for the last week, ever since Riley Tufte got waived, we've sort of been
31:18like, all right, when's that Johnson news coming out?
31:23You know, again, I don't think he's the solution to their problems, but I don't think it would
31:27hurt to give him a look to try him.
31:29Like kind of be last year's Danton Heinen.
31:32Again, it comes down to what he's going to command.
31:34I mean, Heinen, I think made better in minimum last year, but like, yeah, I think, you know,
31:39given Johnson a shot would not be a bad thing.
31:41Yeah, and I agree.
31:43Like, again, if you're expecting him to be the savior, I don't know what to tell you.
31:46But again, it goes back to what we said about like the depth of this team.
31:50It gives you options.
31:51And like with, especially guy like Morgan Geeky, really struggling right now, bring
31:55in a guy like Tyler Johnson to both kind of put a fire under him and give him time to
32:00sit as well.
32:01I think can only help your team.
32:02Like, again, he scored 17 goals with an admittedly really bad Chicago team last year.
32:07But, um, you know, the playmaking, the veteran savvy is still there.
32:12We saw it during, um, preseason play.
32:14So if, and when he signs a contract, would you imagine that's going to be all but inevitable?
32:19I think when Heinen signed, it was October 30th, and it was like an hour before, um,
32:25it was like an hour before like a game.
32:27So maybe that's the same thing.
32:28And we'll sign five players and he's in the lineup.
32:31But, uh, again, gives you more, I think, playmaking skill.
32:35Like, even if he's not what he was with Tampa, um, having a more of a guy that is a proven
32:41playmaker can hang around the net can only help this team again.
32:45It gives you more.
32:45It's not calling up a, a tufty or a guy that's probably better suited for like a fourth line
32:51or a very kind of like North South third line kind of role.
32:54Like Johnson can at least give you something there.
32:56I think in one of those roles and so you can get out of them.
32:59Top six fill in bottom six regular.
33:02I think you can get along with that for sure.
33:04Uh, Connor, what can the people look forward to from you over Boston.com and the Boston
33:08globe?
33:09Yeah, we'll have you covered every step of the way this brewing season, whether it's
