00:25Show up to the game with game time. That's what matters most show up to the game
00:29With game time. I'm Evan Marinovsky. That is Connor Ryan Connor. What is up, Evan? I'm doing well. How you doing?
00:36Doing great doing great. It's end of August here. We're winding down
00:42Fall is right around the corner. I saw a tweet the other day that said in in Boston and in Massachusetts
00:47I think it was like Thursday or Friday was the last day that the Sun would set before 8 p.m
00:53Until like May of 2025 and that I like I like fall I like winter
00:58But I hate the Sun going down early. I really don't like it
01:02That's my like the during the winter when you know, you you know, you and I typically do work past 5 p.m
01:09It happens every now and again that will happen and I'll be sitting at my desk and it'll be like 530 and it's just pitch
01:16Blackout and I'm like how long like what time is it? How long have I been working for? Oh, it's 545 p.m
01:22Tough I'm not a fan of it, but that's just me. I think it's most people up. Yes
01:28Anyways a
01:30Little bit of news here a little sort of some new stuff on the Jeremy Swayman front
01:34So Jeremy Swayman actually participated in a triathlon here in Boston, which triathlons not easy
01:40That's a legit. That's a legit workout. That is not just yeah
01:45No, that's not just going to Planet Fitness lifting a few weights right on the treadmill
01:49I know that from personal experience
01:52Triathlons are very legit and he participated in one on I believe was it Sunday or Saturday?
02:01And so he Ty Anderson was there good friend Ty Anderson was there and he was taking he was taking part in the triathlon
02:08Yeah, that's right. Yeah, I was actually interviewing him
02:12He was like triathlons like you do a swimming part of it, right that's how you start off
02:16Right as part of it he was doing that while interviewing him like I'm sure the audio price sounded like shit
02:21Yeah, underwater to like, yeah, it's like it's like yeah, I'm really
02:27Exactly
02:29Ty's going up and beyond
02:32Yes, and the whole interviews I
02:36I'm really you know, I think we're gonna go
02:39That's actually what he said. That is
02:41Completely what he said that was one of the stipulations of the interview is so good
02:46Occasionally have it be muffled a little bit from the other saltwater in Bossa Nova. So
02:52I had triathlon is running
02:56Swimming biking, which it sounds I actually just thought tick-tock. It wasn't it's actually I
03:02Think so. Yeah, I'm not great with any of those
03:05Real especially swimming. I'm not like the best swimmer
03:08I can swim obviously but like in a competition. I feel like I would just you know, but I got I'm done. I'm done
03:13I can't do that. I'll run extra miles. I'll bike extra miles
03:16I can't do this, but I did see and I know we're getting a little off-topic here. But again, it's late August
03:22What do you want us to do?
03:24On on tick-tock recently. There was a guy forget the guy's name
03:27He did like a hundred and ten mile run through like the European mountains and it was it was kind of it was a
03:34Long-ass marathon obviously days long and you know, he's on mile 80 and he's like, yeah, I'm hallucinating, you know
03:40I'm seeing you know cows with like peace signs on them. My holy shit
03:45But again like to get to mentally get yourself geared up for that
03:48I've run like three miles and by like, you know mile two and a you know, two
03:52I'm like and I could just quit
03:55Well, what do I have to lose? Yeah, I could just walk the rest of the way. Why am I continuing to run?
04:01I can't imagine that but triathlons
04:04Obviously very long distance but Ty Anderson was there
04:07Ty was there and asked Jeremy Swainman about the one thing that everyone cares about Jeremy Swainman
04:12Which is why has that contract not been signed yet?
04:15And he said quote I do love it in Boston and that's all I can control and I know that I have complete trust in
04:21My agent and I know that it's gonna get done
04:23Eventually, he also went on to say because he spent the summer in Boston
04:27He's not been back in Alaska, which is the second straight summer that he's done that he said quote
04:31I knew that if I wanted to be an elite level goalie
04:33I need to train year-round at an elite level and Boston has that
04:36And that's something I've been attracted to with Boston and being able to tap into the community more and more every year and I feel
04:41More ingrained in this community. He's been working
04:44Over at BU which again has Brian Decord Ken Whittier like yeah, I know. There you go. Congratulations
04:51There's lots of areas stop at goaltending
04:53There's a lot of things in Boston and Metro Boston that are a goalies best friend, but clearly wants to be here
05:01Again I think kind of lines up with you are kind of predictions
05:04Which is sort of right before camp right around camp when people kind of come back to Boston when things kick it back into gear
05:10I I think that's when this is gonna happen. These comments don't change my
05:15Prediction of when this is gonna happen. What about you? Yeah. No, no at all
05:18I mean, I think at this point the amount of panic over this the amount of imagined worst-case scenarios
05:24I find is kind of crazy. And again, I've made the
05:28Ill-advised decision Evan to
05:31Check social media check the comments
05:34Because I wrote something about you know, when he was on the EI
05:38Nesson Jimmy fun radio telethon more or less saying the same things about you know
05:43Having full confidence in the deal getting done and all the comments and I'm sure all the comments on Thai story are like
05:49You know this negotiations going going sideways. The brooms are gonna let him walk. They're gonna end up trading him
05:56No, like everything is mapped out
05:59in this scenario where again
06:02Jeremy Saman's been out and about he's been out in Italy at a couple of weddings
06:07It's the the slow point of the the offseason. Anyway, I think once these guys get back and get around training camp
06:13They're gonna hash something out
06:15And again, like what's the final price going to be?
06:18You know, that's where the the question is, right? Like is it gonna be seven and a half?
06:21It's gonna be eight and a half. I mean the Bruins I think you look at I
06:25Think Bruins cap space had it have the Bruins at nine point three five million
06:30So it's not like they're at like seven and a half and they have to have it at that
06:35Negotiation is like you're like, please please take this
06:39Yeah, I mean, I just think you look at the the variants and what can go wrong and I get it right
06:44This is Boston. This is Bruins fans. It's the natural inclination is to imagine what could go wrong
06:51He's still a restricted free agent you get at this point of the
06:55Of the offseason where you know, you're fretting over
06:59Office sheets and I know like was a Vancouver's or the Oilers are going through some shit right now with offer sheets, but you
07:08How many teams are out there that have the means at this point of the offseason to throw out a nine and a half?
07:13Million dollar contract which again the Bruins have the cap space to accommodate that like I don't know
07:19Which seems throwing 11 million at Jeremy Swayman just to fuck with the Bruins, right? I
07:24Don't either. I just think you hit the point now where
07:28When you look at the timing of things when you look at just the Bruins and the cap space
07:32they still have which I guess when you look at you know back at July 1st why they maybe didn't pursue a
07:39guy like a
07:40You know a do Claire or one of these other top six middle six wingers who maybe was more affordable why they didn't you know?
07:47Jump in on on that sweepstakes there could see why they want to give themselves some leeway
07:51So I think you look at you know
07:53Again, the restrictions that come with the guys who are restricted free agents like Jeremy Swayman
07:58The Bruins and what they have in terms of cap flexibility and the timing of things
08:03It's kind of the same thing as what David Pasternak's contract was
08:06In 2017 when he was an RFA where I don't think that was done until I think maybe a couple of days into camp
08:12I want to say so I'm not fretting over it
08:16I
08:17Just think you look it's again. It's only natural to imagine the worse in some of these situations
08:22But I think a deal is gonna get done now
08:25What is the final price that remains to be seen but in terms of any worst-case scenarios?
08:29I think was so far past that that again. It's what day is it or recording on August 19th? Not a lot going on
08:37Not a lot to talk about but I'm not I'm not fretting over
08:41This thing going threat level midnight and going to shit in short order or anything like that
08:46Yeah, I'm not either and I know like again could this be like Tuka Rask leaving the bubble where the night before we're like
08:52Oh this, you know, who knows what he's you know, his comments were he just yeah
08:58It's the bubble then the next day. It's like Tuka Rask has decided to leave the Bruins. It's like, okay
09:02Well, there's something real here, but that was a different time
09:05Contract negotiations are much more standard than a kovat bubble
09:10So again, I'm not fretting about this either you mentioned though like a lot of things are not happening
09:16Something did just happen as we recorded
09:19Patrick line a officially a Montreal Canadian goes from the jackets to Montreal
09:24the Habs also get a 2026 second round pick which is a
09:29legitimate piece
09:31And going back to Columbus is Jordan Harris. So again defensive prospect they're going for line a in a second
09:38interesting move
09:40By Montreal and I get Columbus kind of wanted to get rid of line a we talked about, you know back in the
09:47Doldrums of the summer like, you know, would line a make sense for the Bruins?
09:50We both said no, he makes a lot of money a lot of money. There's no salary retained in that deal
09:57I think that's why
09:58Columbus had to cough up a second round pick
10:01So you're saying that the Montreal is not gonna give Jeremy swimming 11 million dollar per year offer sheet or anything like that
10:06I guess not now. I guess wave it is off the table. You can tweet that no more
10:11No, sway of into Montreal anymore. What a damn shame. That is
10:15Sway that had some other comments that I found interesting. We can kind of get into some, you know

12:06So Swain made some other comments to Ty Anderson
12:10Saying that you quote I believe that experience is the key to it all and going through these types of things
12:15Which again he went through this last year with arbitration
12:17Quote I'm getting just as much experience right now as I did last year with different ways of it all and we know it's a business
12:23It's unfortunate at times, but I know I'm gonna be playing hockey at the end of the day
12:26And I really hope it's with the Boston Bruins now that part of it's like ooh
12:31Because you have in one quote you have the business whenever a player mentions it's a business it's like
12:37And then on the other end like oh, I hope like, you know, I'm gonna I know I'm gonna play hockey
12:42I hope it's with the Bruins, which I you know, I believe him. I know he wants to be here
12:46He spends his summers here. Like I have no doubt
12:49That he wants to be here and in the Northeast
12:52and then you know a Ty Anderson asked, you know, if he was focused on a long-term deal and
12:58Swayman said well right now I'm focused on being a triathlete
13:00So, you know again not surprising that he's not going to discuss contract specifics before they're
13:06Before they're out. I do find it interesting though. Like I am trying to gain like what does he want? What is the holdup?
13:14When they go back to the negotiating table, what is it? Is it a long-term deal?
13:18Is it a AV is it you know, we've mentioned before does he want an Austin Matthews like contract?
13:24So I like that's the other thing and I don't think we gain that from these quotes
13:27We do know that he wants to be back in Boston. Nothing's any like doubt about that, but
13:32I'm just curious what the holdup is
13:34Yeah, I mean again, it's tough to read as to what exactly he's looking for in terms of term
13:39You have to imagine for any player they're looking for if it's someone who's mentioned
13:43How much they want to be here you'd imagine it's you know security in a long-term deal after you know navigating through
13:50Arbitration last year having that eight-year contract probably is a weight off your shoulder, right?
13:55But by that same token, this is a guy that in terms of his value you have to weigh one
14:00You know could his value spike in another year or two when he's the number one goalie and maybe what we saw
14:07you know in the playoffs last year, it's just the start of
14:10legitimate top three Vesna contending goalie
14:14so you have that to contend that maybe that's influencing whether it's more of a
14:18It's looking for like a four or five-year deal is looking for an eight-year deal
14:21but even if it is eight years, you know, this is a guy that
14:25Is in kind of an interesting spot when you look at how many premier?
14:29Franchise young goalies are due to get paid next year or two, you know
14:34Some of it, you know, and this is a brewing scene that has benefited quite a bit from guys taking hometown discounts over the years
14:41But I think if you're a player in such a premium position
14:44With so many other guys behind you like Ottinger and just Eric and a few of these other players
14:51It's all about also setting the the market floor, right?
14:54Like I don't think you know
14:55He's looking at you know
14:57Six and a half million when you're looking at what could happen in another year or two, right?
15:01When just Erkin's up or Ottinger all these guys, maybe it's you know
15:05You're looking for at least eight to have that be kind of the new market floor for these guys
15:09So there's a lot of different factors that go into it. As you said, it's tough to kind of read what exactly he's looking for
15:17You know by those quotes, but I just think you look at what?
15:22Makes the most sense. It's probably just a long-term deal and comes down to what the annual payout is. And again, it's kind of
15:27You know, we've mentioned this what the entire summer that we're saying
15:31All right, seven and a half eight and a half get it done somewhere in there
15:34But it can change based on you know, what he's looking at whether he thinks is you know
15:39Is he banking on more improvement and that's why he's asking for more or anything like that. So
15:44Until we it'll be fascinating. I feel like once the news actually dropped so it's from the Bruins
15:49That's usually where it comes from in these contract negotiations. But whenever that final payout is I think we're all gonna be it's gonna be
15:55fascinating to see what
15:57They finally come to because you can make an argument for
16:00Seven and a half seven you make an argument for nine right like just the way these things kind of go
16:06I'm ready for it to be done
16:09And again, I we've you know, you and I have preached all summer that this is not something to worry about
16:14but it's still something we we do have to talk about and we have to hash out and and and
16:19Discuss and I think like that's an element where it's like, alright, let's let's get this over with let's get camp in front of us
16:25Let's talk about training camp storylines, which we will a lot
16:29Obviously in the car in the coming weeks

18:17Guaranteed now back to the show. So last week you caught up with Johnny Beecher
18:23You caught up with Mason Lowry at TD garden at an event
18:27To deliver school supplies to kids. I like that
18:32I like their comments nerve like ah
18:34Every time you go back to school shopping. I was like dang like
18:39Seriously, that's it. Like it summers over
18:42It really was just hottening like as a kid where I feel like it'd be like you have like 4th of July
18:47Which I feel goes like a peak right of summer and it felt like you're right in the middle
18:51You still have a lot more time to go
18:53But then all of a sudden like it's it's July 5th and you already got the the Walmart and the Target
18:59Back to school things already. And I don't want to think about binders right now shit
19:03July 4th is like sort of the top of the roller coaster of summer
19:07It's once you slow up to that and then right down and then that's like summers over after July 4th
19:13So yeah, I mean I'm like going to Walmart and it was like it was always surreal
19:17Like reality was breaking going to Walmart to get all this stuff and it's summer
19:21But like school is on the mind and I'm getting you know
19:24My math packets I've got to do and gonna get you either that you're never gonna use and then cost you ever
19:31$498 or like an elementary school you'd buy like so many supplies your teacher would request and you wouldn't use like half of them and
19:38It was like, all right. Well, yes
19:40All right, I'm doing geometry. I don't need a
19:43Fusion like collider here something I buy some like from like Switzerland to get it imported in for
19:49$900 I know I don't I don't need that. I just need markets. Well, I always liked in high school just be like
19:55Four or five folders and like four or five notebooks and that's all I needed
19:59I know, you know high school was all it was all it was cuz the middle school
20:02Did you ever use the Trapper Keeper? Did you use the Trapper Keeper? I don't know what that is
20:06You missed out
20:07Trapper Keeper was this big like
20:09Binder the zipper up and in it had all your folders for every class and it'd be just like thick
20:15Oh, it was Nick. It gives me stress streams gives me PTSD
20:21But anyways
20:22you caught up with low Ryan Beecher at the event and
20:26Both talked about obviously wanting to make the team full-time
20:28The benefits of being down in Providence and one thing I kept thinking about as I was reading is like, you know
20:33We've talked a lot in this offseason about how you know, even though the Bruins went out and got Zador off
20:38Low-ry this sort of a runway for him to be a you know
20:42Good third pairing defenseman settle into everyday NHL duties like that
20:47Beecher on the other hand, I think it's different because we've talked in past episodes with the fourth line and
20:52There's no guarantees down there. I don't think anyone is guaranteed a spot. There's four or five guys
20:57You know six seven even that are vying for fourth line spots
21:01It's not a guarantee that he makes it to me
21:04I think he Johnny Beecher does have a pretty big task in front of him during this training camp. Yeah, absolutely, right?
21:10I mean you look at probably the two guys with the safest jobs are
21:15Max Jones and Mark Castle look right in terms of guys that have been around a little bit not to say they're seasoned vets
21:20But you kind of know what you're getting from from those players cast like is really good at face offs as well
21:25So he's a guy that probably has the edge if you're playing him down the middle
21:30That being said right like it's you're looking at Beecher. You're looking at Justin Brazzo if like that's just your four guys
21:35We're not even counting hell like if Riley Duran makes a push during camp
21:40Yeah, like Trevor Quintar a whole bunch of guys that are really intriguing. That's like Mark McLaughlin, right?
21:45like there's so many guys know that people were but to have a riot was it two years ago and McLaughlin didn't make the
21:51Yes, it was right. It was I mean he was great that whole preseason. So there's a lot of different options out there
21:58So nothing set in stone for a guy like Beecher
22:01That being said
22:02He is a guy that if he plays to you know
22:05His strengths if he plays the way that you saw it spurts last year and it's kind of we talked about that
22:11You know
22:12it's tough night in night out with the travel the fatigue the injuries that just pile up that you don't feel 100% every day and
22:19Then kind of managing those
22:21Managing that workload. I think is the biggest hurdle he dealt with but when he's on his game
22:25there's very few guys that or
22:28If you're trying to paint that in the prototypical guy you want your checking line in
22:32Today's NHL and guy like Beecher who is one of the better skaters in the league who's 6 3
22:39217 pounds
22:40Great at face us has contributed on the PK. And again, like I don't think he's gonna be a
22:45Scoring threat but like 7 goals 10 points in 50 ish games like not bad for a rookie trying just to find his footing
22:52So he's a guy that if he plays to his strengths and continues to play a really simple game and let's kind of his speed and
22:59size
23:00Dictate how he goes about?
23:02You know, whatever minutes available to him, you know 9 10 11 minutes
23:06He's a guy that should be in the running for one of those starting roles
23:09and if you're you know remains to be seen how you kind of configure that line, but if you're starting guys on your checking line are
23:16Beecher Jones and Castle look you got three guys that are pretty big can move really well
23:21our physical and how a little more upside in terms of
23:24Giving you some scoring punch. And again, that's not to say that Justin Brezzo is this guy that's cast to the side, right?
23:30He was really solid down the stretch. There's a guy that's really intriguing with good hands for that size
23:35so the Bruins have a good problem on their hands in terms of where that fourth line kind of
23:40Pans out but Beecher's a guy that again, I'm pretty high in terms of what he can provide and I think for him
23:46It's all about
23:47Just sticking to his strengths and letting it play out because he just plays
23:50It's kind of like Frederick, right?
23:51We're trying to do too much
23:52Takes away from a game if you play a simple smart game and you play to your strengths as to you know
23:57What makes you an effective NHL er the minutes and the opportunity should be there for a guy like Johnny Beecher
24:02Yeah, and I think like with a guy like Brazzo
24:05Brazzo to me is more built for the top nine. I think we saw that last year
24:10He's not this big physical presence
24:11He is a big guy and he's great at protecting pucks, but he's not gonna be a guy that's gonna be bruising guys out there
24:17He actually has an offensive upside and to me like I wonder, you know, the more we talk about the top six. It's like is
24:24There a chance I think there is a chance. I don't think there's a you know
24:27I don't think it's a high percentage
24:29But I think there's a chance he finds his way into the top six as camp goes if he has a really good camp and he's
24:34Effective in the preseason. It's like art. Well, maybe that's their answer at second line right wing
24:40So again and that pay again that paves the path forward for Beecher to be on that fourth line more consistently because to me
24:47It feels like the battle on that fourth line
24:49Is going to come down to Beecher and Kastelik in terms of they're both centermen right shot left shot
24:57What do you prefer?
24:58Ideally you'd have both idea in a perfect world
25:01You have Max Jones Beecher and Kastelik and you know, depending what side of the ice the faceoff was on you'd rotate those guys through
25:08but again, if Breazeau is sort of in that mix too and
25:12Suddenly he's a fourth line candidate and again, we mentioned to ran
25:17Kuntar McLaughlin
25:19you know just someone does a younger guy to two young guys like Lysel and Murkuloff make it above and then
25:26That moves the whole depth chart down and so again like you have all these
25:30Scenarios where it's got a low rye on D. I think it's more cut-and-dry
25:33I think we have a pretty damn good idea of who the 7d are gonna be
25:36I know low rye mentioned like I gotta make sure to take advantage of the opportunity. It's like well if you don't
25:42You're not just screwed, but the Bruins are screwed right because there's Parker Wotherspoon, but after that, I don't think there's a lot
25:50So again, I think low rye definitely has less competition Beecher a lot more
25:55So that's gonna be interesting to watch in training camp. I think those two
25:59Cuz again the opportunities there just comes down to them taking it
26:02I think we've hit on everything 10th of August
26:06We've swam in Ty Anderson swimming with Jeremy Swayman and going in and you know underwater with them and getting quotes
26:13You know there I always love like the GoPro videos like
26:17Going underwater. Like I don't know. It always just it's cool
26:19Like I always wanted a GoPro just to like go in the ocean be like, yeah
26:23You can hear the water hitting it, you know, but never did it
26:26I thought when you'd go down there when you put the water down there and you have the GoPro
26:29I thought our method the sound would change to like under the sea from Little Mermaid like those first couple of notes here
26:35I thought that would always happen like it would just automatically translate to the video. It doesn't though
26:41Sounds like shit. Yes. Yeah
26:43I do understand that reference. So you've seen the Little Mermaid, but you haven't seen the Godfather, correct?
26:48Yes, I will a lot of those Disney movies
26:50I saw when I was little and I haven't seen them in years
26:53But like I'm I assume I saw the Little Mermaid when I was a kid because I know like the references and stuff
26:57Oh god father. I was better mermaid and it's underwater. So there's it's very not a little
27:03Godfather's not nautical themed. Maybe while it was
27:09A really long movie it kind of all blends together
