The Boston Bruins emerge victorious in their Centennial Game against the Montreal Canadiens, following a brief 90-minute ceremony. Joey Copponi and Rob Tocci discuss the highlights of the night, and give their reactions to the star-studded lineup of Bruins legends in attendance. The Bruins also wore their new centennial (2.0?) jerseys for the first time, and the guys have some thoughts. The Bruins not only defeated the Habs, but did so in Big Bad Bruin fashion, with plenty of extra-curricular activity between the whistles. Joey and Rob giver their thoughts on the team, and if this is finally maybe actually the turning point they've needed. All that, and much more!

00:00:00Welcome back to Bear With Me, the Boston Bruins are now 12th, 11th, and 3rd, and that is good
00:00:22enough for 3rd in the Atlantic, 8th in the Eastern Conference, and 16th in the National
00:00:28Hockey League.
00:00:29Hey everyone, it's Rob Tocci.
00:00:30Rob, how you doing?
00:00:31I'm doing alright.
00:00:32How are you doing?
00:00:33I'm doing alright.
00:00:34The show is brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the CLNS
00:00:36Media Network, and by GameTime, taking you to the best place to buy tickets online to
00:00:38sports concerts or all your favorite events.
00:00:42Check out that event the Boston Bruins put on at the TD Garden.
00:00:46So much pageantry.
00:00:47A lot of pageantry.
00:00:50A lot of pageantry.
00:00:5190 minutes worth of pageantry.
00:00:53If you didn't know, the Centennial game, scheduled for 3 o'clock on Sunday, started at about
00:01:027 p.m., did about four and a half hours.
00:01:06It was actually 90 minutes.
00:01:08That was not an exaggeration.
00:01:09It started at 3, puck drop was at 4.20.
00:01:12Unbelievable.
00:01:13Kind of unbelievable.
00:01:16I texted you, but I think I got lost in a few other texts because I, somebody tweeted,
00:01:20I think it was Scott McLaughlin.
00:01:21It was just like, hey, puck drops 4.15, but they want you in your seats by 2.45.
00:01:27So I text you.
00:01:28I'm like, there's a 90 minute ceremony before the game is Sunday.
00:01:31And then on the day of the game, as the ceremony is starting, like, this is like 3.05, 3.10.
00:01:37You're like, when is puck drop?
00:01:38And I was like, 4.15.
00:01:41And you were like, fucking excuse me?
00:01:43Well, I found out because they're doing the Ares thing.
00:01:46They're doing the Ares tour.
00:01:48And they bring out Brad Martian in a suit.
00:01:51And I'm like, did I miss something?
00:01:53Does the game not start in 10 minutes?
00:01:56Yeah.
00:01:57And then all the other guys are just like in their workout clothes to sitting on the
00:01:59bench.
00:02:00Yeah.
00:02:01That I missed.
00:02:02That I entirely missed for some reason or just overlooked.
00:02:05But yeah, something about Brad coming out, I was like, wait a second, he's playing, right?
00:02:10This is how he announces his retirement.
00:02:12The idea of people being in their seats an hour and a half before puck drop is not only
00:02:17insane, but like it's an interactive thing because they gave the wristbands away that
00:02:22lit up with the ceremony.
00:02:26They didn't show a lot of like full crowd shots, but was it full?
00:02:29There's no way.
00:02:30Right.
00:02:31I won.
00:02:32I doubt it was full, too.
00:02:33I didn't even know about the wristband thing.
00:02:37I don't have a third.
00:02:38I guess I didn't need to number them.
00:02:39But yeah, no, I had no idea.
00:02:42That's still so long.
00:02:43That's too long, especially in those seats when you're already going to be there for
00:02:46like three hours.
00:02:47Like you're going to make me show up an hour and a half early.
00:02:49Like it was cool.
00:02:50It was awesome.
00:02:51I am jealous.
00:02:52Yeah.
00:02:53Who did get to see it there first?
00:02:54And let me get that straight.
00:02:55But still.
00:02:56And it wasn't even like a full 90 minutes.
00:02:57It's like they did the ceremony and then they 45 minute interlude and then they came back.
00:03:01Dude.
00:03:02Yes.
00:03:03I was going to say that, too.
00:03:04If it's an hour and a half ceremony and it's a good ceremony and then the puck drops, that's
00:03:08one thing to be like, it's over.
00:03:11We'll be back in an hour.
00:03:13Crazy.
00:03:14Kind of crazy.
00:03:16And also, I mean, I'm kind of just being a hater here, but I don't care.
00:03:21Like the people care about Boston history.
00:03:22The people care about seeing legends.
00:03:24They do.
00:03:26But a ceremony of that size just to commemorate the fact that it's been a century.
00:03:32You know what I mean?
00:03:33Like the whole the whole reason is just like it's been a century.
00:03:36I was kind of like, yeah, this is sweet, but like there's there's a city with championship
00:03:41aspirations.
00:03:42There's a city that, you know, hangs banners like.
00:03:47I think you may not feel that way if we didn't just have an entire fucking season dedicated
00:03:51dedicated to it being 100 years of Bruins hockey.
00:03:54Like it's kind of old hat at this point.
00:03:56And yes, it is the exact 100th anniversary.
00:03:59And yeah, that is we're celebrating and it's cool.
00:04:02But at the same time, it's like, didn't didn't we do this like for a while?
00:04:07Didn't we?
00:04:08We had special jerseys and everything.
00:04:11It's been over a year now that we've been celebrating the 100 year anniversary.
00:04:16It's almost time to start celebrating the 200th anniversary, which is good.
00:04:19We should get a head start on it.
00:04:22Yeah.
00:04:23Might as well just leave the decorations up.
00:04:25Yeah.
00:04:26Yeah.
00:04:27It's crazy.
00:04:28It's Christmas in January.
00:04:29It's, you know, fuck it.
00:04:30Yeah.
00:04:31But it's like having it's like having your big Christmas in in like in January, in February.
00:04:37It's like, yeah, we yeah, just he's had a whole month.
00:04:41It's like somebody celebrating your birthday for six months and then a month after it,
00:04:47it's your actual birthday and they celebrate it.
00:04:49You're like, I appreciate it.
00:04:51But like, I'm a little worn out from this.
00:04:52Like I kind of got the message from over those six months.
00:04:55I think I'm a lot of history, you know, really is there.
00:04:59Yeah.
00:05:00Yeah.
00:05:01Just like your birthday.
00:05:02Yeah.
00:05:03I mean, it was cool.
00:05:04It was very cool.
00:05:05Again, jealous of everybody that was there.
00:05:06I mean, it looks sweet.
00:05:10It was weird.
00:05:11Weird.
00:05:12No chara.
00:05:13We should talk about that.
00:05:14Weird.
00:05:15No chara.
00:05:16He wasn't there.
00:05:17No chara.
00:05:18I totally missed that.
00:05:19Was it like announced?
00:05:20There was no chara.
00:05:21I mean, there I mean, he wasn't on the ice.
00:05:23He is an easy to notice guy.
00:05:25So that's actually.
00:05:26Yeah, I don't think I would have noticed.
00:05:28Yeah.
00:05:29It was just strange because like I'm under the impression that he's just biking all the
00:05:34time in Cambridge.
00:05:36Yeah, that's fair.
00:05:37He's almost always just running some sort of marathon.
00:05:39Yeah.
00:05:40Holding pigeons or something.
00:05:42Yeah, that's on.
00:05:44Yeah.
00:05:45That was maybe the biggest takeaway.
00:05:46The other day, Jason Allison was a cool poll.
00:05:48They got Jason Allison.
00:05:49You're right.
00:05:50So sure.
00:05:51I didn't show.
00:05:52Well, I completely missed that.
00:05:54I don't think I even would have noticed if he didn't say anything.
00:05:57I very much expected him to come out with Bergie.
00:05:59So, yeah, I mean, it's kind of weird.
00:06:02There was a good photo of Bergeron with or yeah.
00:06:05And it's like the goats.
00:06:07I mean, the Bruins have so many goats at this point, they should just call themselves the
00:06:11barn.
00:06:12But we looked up the top goal scorers of what season was it was 71 72 no 70 71.
00:06:24It was disgusting.
00:06:25It was the 70 71 team.
00:06:26So it's like the or scores the 70 71 team for those who do not know is basically the
00:06:32greatest team to have never won the cup.
00:06:35They scored 70 71 did when they didn't know they didn't always 70 and 72.
00:06:41Correct.
00:06:42Yeah.
00:06:43They got knocked out by Montreal.
00:06:44They scored 399 goals that season.
00:06:47They have an average game for them was over five goals over a full season.
00:06:54That's disgusting.
00:06:55It's unacceptable is what it's actually outrageous because I was doing the math like my uncle,
00:07:02the same uncle pointed out to me that in an 80 plus game season, the Bruins have never
00:07:07scored under 200 goals before currently on pace to finish just shy of it.
00:07:12I believe it may be different after these two six goal games.
00:07:16But I just went down a rabbit hole of like their biggest seasons and like just interesting
00:07:20to see like the length of the season changing throughout the years and all the different
00:07:23seasons where it was short.
00:07:25But but yeah, no, that 71 team was just this gusting disgusting.
00:07:31The top goal scorers in the 70 71 Boston Bruins Esposito had 76 Johnny music had 51
00:07:40Ken Hodge had 43 Bobby or the defenseman had 37.
00:07:45What a bomb.
00:07:46John McKenzie had 31 Derek Sanderson 29 76 goals.
00:07:51There was 10 guys with 20 plus goals.
00:07:55That's an insane.
00:07:56It's also like just being of the age that we are being born in the 90s.
00:08:00Like you hear about all these legends and whatever, and like, you know, like the era
00:08:04that they played in, you see their highlight reels, whatever.
00:08:07But something about looking up that team made me realize like, oh, right, they all played
00:08:11in the 70s, right?
00:08:12They all played together.
00:08:14Esposito and Busek and or were on the ice at the same time.
00:08:17Yeah, I forget about that, too.
00:08:18You're like, that was a team, not just like a fantasy collection of like the 100 years
00:08:24of Bruins.
00:08:25It's like, no, that was a real team for a while.
00:08:27Yeah.
00:08:28It's kind of so weird.
00:08:29They brought hockey back to New England.
00:08:31There's a lot of talk about that during the ceremony, too.
00:08:34It's like hockey wasn't nearly as central to Boston's identity before Bobby or I want
00:08:44to look.
00:08:45I want to get these numbers right, because this is a cool stat that I've heard.
00:08:53But before, oh, I can't find it, but it's something like in the greater Boston area
00:09:05before Bobby or made his debut, there was like four ice rinks and afterwards there was
00:09:10like 88.
00:09:13That's actually crazy.
00:09:18Something like that.
00:09:19Yeah.
00:09:20I think it was Dale Arnold.
00:09:21the boss.
00:09:22Greater Boston area should be called the Bobby or ring.
00:09:24Why not be an unbelievable ceremony?
00:09:29Very cool to relive the days.
00:09:31Obviously stirred up a lot of conversations.
00:09:34Everybody stirred up a conversation with their dad during this.
00:09:36I was like, oh, I saw music looking good.
00:09:39Nobody said that.
00:09:40But they were saying other things they weren't.
00:09:43They weren't.
00:09:44They weren't saying that.
00:09:45No need for that, Joe.
00:09:46But yeah, I mean, I will say a little disappointed.
00:09:51Nothing came out of the vault.
00:09:52They were locking up the vault.
00:09:53That's something that's definitely coming out of the vault.
00:09:55The whole vault thing was so confusing to me because I also was like something they're
00:09:58like, no, we're locking it because this is the end of the era.
00:10:01It's the beginning of a new era.
00:10:02I'm like, are you about to kill someone?
00:10:03Like what's happening?
00:10:04Like I was so every person on the ice, you will say your farewells to yeah, it's like
00:10:11midsummer.
00:10:12It's like that scene in midsummer with the cliff jumping.
00:10:16You're like, do I need a brace to watch someone die right now?
00:10:21Step into the vault before they lock it.
00:10:24Oh, it was so strange.
00:10:26But again, even just like the phrasing of it, it's like talking about how it's the end
00:10:29of the era.
00:10:30And I was like, OK, I thought they were going to like give the last 20 years or so like
00:10:35a definitive name or they were going to name this era or something.
00:10:39But it was just a weird vault thing.
00:10:41I was like, OK.
00:10:42And then they passed.
00:10:43They literally passed it on to the next generation.
00:10:46And most of them did not make a good enough pass to get to the kids they were passing
00:10:49to.
00:10:50It was a little awkward.
00:10:51I wanted one of them just fucking sauce it out of six year old.
00:10:55But it did.
00:10:56I knew that was going to happen the second they were like, we want you to pass it.
00:10:59I'm like, these men are hardly standing.
00:11:03Do we need to make them play hockey?
00:11:05They did it for long enough.
00:11:06True.
00:11:07But out of nowhere, throwing it out.
00:11:08So I've been playing in this case.
00:11:13Yeah, but there's there's a lot going on.
00:11:16But it did feel like they were leading up to some big announcement or something.
00:11:19It didn't come.
00:11:20But that's kind of it.
00:11:21It did.
00:11:22It did feel like a buildup.
00:11:23And then it ended.
00:11:24I was like, oh, OK.
00:11:25Now, I don't know where we have a new statue next to the garden.
00:11:29When were they going to tell us about zero heads up that we just now have a bear.
00:11:35They were like, pray press conference.
00:11:36Everybody gather around the bear.
00:11:39We made a bear.
00:11:40We made a bear.
00:11:41Oh, that's cool, guys.
00:11:43Don't look at its eyes.
00:11:44Did you tell us about this?
00:11:46Did I miss it?
00:11:47Was I?
00:11:48Am I late?
00:11:49No.
00:11:50It is cool.
00:11:51I look forward to seeing it in person next time I go to a game.
00:11:53But it was it's kind of I don't know what I would have preferred.
00:11:58Not that I don't like it.
00:11:59But it is weird.
00:12:00It's a bear.
00:12:01I don't know.
00:12:02No, I love that.
00:12:03Honestly, it looks so cool.
00:12:04Like, yeah, it's fine.
00:12:05We were the bears.
00:12:06It's cool.
00:12:07It's fine.
00:12:08Cool.
00:12:09Talk about cool.
00:12:10How?
00:12:11And you'll appreciate this from a production standpoint.
00:12:14This fucking drone video on my drone video God took over the Internet for a little bit.
00:12:22I hate that.
00:12:23I can't watch those without thinking about like, how did they make this?
00:12:26Like it's all I'm thinking about the whole time I'm watching it.
00:12:29But like if anything, it just kind of lends even more praise to the video production team
00:12:35because I simply don't know.
00:12:37I simply don't know.
00:12:38It's unbelievable.
00:12:40I don't know how much AI or CGI or whatever is put into some of that, but it's clean.
00:12:48It's awesome.
00:12:50I love it.
00:12:51Ten out of ten.
00:12:52I'm still mentally in the pre AI era where I'm like, they did that all perfectly in one
00:12:57take may not have been the first take, but all of that was a singular take to me.
00:13:04Highlights will definitely O'Reilly in the penalty box.
00:13:07That was great.
00:13:08That was cool.
00:13:09Judd calling like they like zoom up to brick and Judd and it's like him, like, but it's
00:13:14like the actual mic feed Martian out in the ice.
00:13:17It was all.
00:13:18It was also good.
00:13:19I loved Willie O'Reilly like looking at his thing.
00:13:24I think music was in there too.
00:13:25It was those two like looking at their own shrine.
00:13:27Yeah, it was them.
00:13:28Yeah.
00:13:29That was really cool.
00:13:30Obviously, blades making an appearance.
00:13:32We love twice.
00:13:33Two place.
00:13:34Yeah.
00:13:35Wish they had more blades.
00:13:36I saw a comment.
00:13:37That was pretty interesting.
00:13:39I've only been to the Boston Garden.
00:13:40I've never been a TD garden, and this was such a cool way to see it because it really
00:13:46walks you through it, basically.
00:13:48If you're not familiar with the layout and you watch that video, you're like, oh, okay.
00:13:52So that's how we point out you and I.
00:13:53We know well enough.
00:13:54We're like, yeah, you go up the escalator, then you're on the lower seating.
00:13:59I did not know about the Bruins Hall of Fame or whatever that is there.
00:14:04Yeah, that's new.
00:14:05I think that was they started that last year.
00:14:07I don't even know if that's like anybody can go to that or it's like you have to have like
00:14:11a special fancy ticket.
00:14:14You probably have to have a special fancy ticket.
00:14:15I always assume you got to pay more with this team, but you probably do.
00:14:21You know how it goes these days, my right because I woke you didn't never know anymore.
00:14:30I'm scrambling to find something because there's something really important I need to tell
00:14:35you about.
00:14:38What is it, Joe?
00:14:39What do you have to tell me about?
00:14:40I just want to share my personal endorsement of something.
00:14:44Joe, please lay it on me.
00:14:46I just want to give you some anecdotes and some personal experience.
00:14:49Please do.

00:16:06Speaking of game, they played a game right after the ceremony, too.
00:16:11This wasn't just a circus.
00:16:14It was also bread.
00:16:15Nice.
00:16:16Good reference.
00:16:17Thanks.
00:16:18I don't know if the I don't think the the sporting event is bread.
00:16:23I think that's probably still circus, but they played a game and it was a good game.
00:16:28I'm not going to revolt.
00:16:29That's all I know.
00:16:30I'm not up for revolting because I'm too tired from the circus and I'm too full of
00:16:33bread.
00:16:34So I'm pretty.
00:16:35It's a pretty docile.
00:16:36I think it's a coincidence, but moving on, they played the game and the game was good.
00:16:44They won the game.
00:16:45It was entertaining for 45 minutes of it, maybe the first slow start.
00:16:51Slow start.
00:16:52Slow start.
00:16:54It was slow until it really wasn't.
00:16:56Yes.
00:16:57But before we even get into the nitty gritty of the game show.
00:17:01Got some new threads.
00:17:04You do know the fucking Bruins do the fucking Bruins do, right?
00:17:11They all right.
00:17:14Let's talk about.
00:17:15I don't have clothes that are new.
00:17:17Me.
00:17:18I'm wearing right now.
00:17:19I've had since 2008.
00:17:20I'm getting the Bruins, got new sweaters, new kits.
00:17:30When they unveiled the Centennial jerseys, I did not like them when I saw them.
00:17:34I did not like the gold glitter.
00:17:36I didn't really like any of them.
00:17:38The only one I liked was the cream 1924 one.
00:17:46And then I saw them on the ice and I realized I was dead wrong.
00:17:49The black was perfect.
00:17:51The white was awesome.
00:17:53And the cream one was probably the worst of the three.
00:17:57When they unveiled these, I loved them, loved them, loved them, loved them, loved them.
00:18:03But Rob, Joe, they're the penguins, the penguins, the penguins, you know, it's so aggravating
00:18:10about that one is that the penguins did steal the colors from Boston, but they did it away
00:18:15for so long that they kind of are theirs now, like the actual black and yellow are penguins.
00:18:22And now when I look at these jerseys, I'm like, I just see at times I just see the Boston
00:18:27penguins.
00:18:28And I'm mad about it because they were ours.
00:18:31There was a whole hullabaloo about this.
00:18:33We've talked about this multiple times, but they're growing on me.
00:18:37And I'm reminding myself, I'm like, they had it first.
00:18:39Just I'm letting myself take some time to adjust to it because we're just used to seeing
00:18:45I feel like the gold is much more vibrant than previous jerseys.
00:18:49It was a lot more muted in the last few iterations.
00:18:54So I'm going to give a time, but I would you rather they stick with their current jerseys
00:19:02for the remainder of the year, or would you rather them switch over to these ones?
00:19:07Which may be good, but if you had asked me before I saw them on the ice, no question.
00:19:13I would have said switch to the Centennial right now.
00:19:17Now seeing them on the ice, certain things you tweeted it, but I don't like the stripe
00:19:21on the side of the pants.
00:19:23I don't there's too much yellow in the socks.
00:19:27They don't look like the Bruins.
00:19:28I don't know.
00:19:29Maybe.
00:19:30Maybe that's an old time or a new generation take because I didn't see those colors in
00:19:35the 70s, but they look so much like penguins.
00:19:41They really do.
00:19:42I would be very cool with them removing the yellow stripe completely or changing it to
00:19:46white.
00:19:47I think could be cool.
00:19:48I do love the yellow socks because I used to have them and I'm glad they brought them
00:19:52back.
00:19:53I thought I liked the gold from the elbow to the wrist, but now I don't know.
00:19:58I wish that were just all black.
00:20:00I wish it was more black and less gold, I guess is what I'm saying.
00:20:06If the rumor that this will become their new default jerseys true, it does mean that there's
00:20:11an away version of this jersey, which I'm like, oh, what does that look like?
00:20:16What does that look like?
00:20:18I want to see it.
00:20:21But again, I think that would just maybe even more gold.
00:20:24So I don't know.
00:20:27In action, I see what you mean.
00:20:29And I don't even disagree that because I gave a tweet, it was like, they look like the Boston
00:20:33penguins right now.
00:20:34But at the same time, I still like them.
00:20:36And I'm kind of tired of the jerseys they're currently wearing, the ones that they're going
00:20:41back to from pre centennial season.
00:20:45I'm very ready for a new jersey.
00:20:47And if this is it, I'd be very okay with that.
00:20:49Yeah.
00:20:51They wouldn't grow on me.
00:20:52They would grow on me.
00:20:53I think it's more likely we'll see them as the thirds going forward for this season.
00:20:57And then next season, they could probably kick in.
00:20:59Yeah, that's what I think that was kind of what the rumor mill was saying when they were
00:21:05unveiled.
00:21:07So I just hope I just missed the Pooh Bear reverse retros.
00:21:11They were the best fucking kids I've ever seen.
00:21:14The ruins where there was those centennials.
00:21:16Like if that was the kit, if that was the lineup, the centennials minus the gold, maybe.
00:21:23I don't know.
00:21:24I don't know.
00:21:25I get they were special jerseys, but also I didn't even give a shit about the glitter
00:21:29by the end of the season.
00:21:30It was like it was subtle enough.
00:21:32It wasn't like crazy glittery or crazy sparkly.
00:21:36It was just like, oh yeah, that is a little that is glitter, isn't it?
00:21:40Yeah.
00:21:41Yeah.
00:21:42What do you think of a postmark?
00:21:43We're in the Cooper.
00:21:44Yeah.
00:21:45We're the Cooper bucket.
00:21:46Yeah.
00:21:47Yeah.
00:21:48Awesome.
00:21:49And also one of those things where after the fact, you're like, obviously, Pasternak is
00:21:52going to score when he looks like this.
00:21:53But the thing is, you could do that every night because he always looks impeccable.
00:21:57Correct.
00:21:58So, yeah, you could take a picture of him.
00:22:01Oh, excuse me, rolling out of bed and be like, obviously, this guy was going to score.
00:22:05Well, yeah, he's just a handsome guy who does cool stuff.
00:22:10I'm Dave, a handsome guy who does cool stuff.
00:22:13That's my new tag for David Pasternak.
00:22:16Yeah, I did expect him and Brad to have big games, just big spotlight.
00:22:22They're the star in McAvoy, who very much delivered.
00:22:25They're the stars.
00:22:27They're the generational names right now.
00:22:29We're going to look back and be like, yeah, like I saw by Pasternak and McAvoy, I remember
00:22:33their first games like that kind of thing.
00:22:36So you do expect them to step up with all the alumni in the building.
00:22:38That's like pressures, maybe not the right inspiration.
00:22:43Sure, and in the same way that you could say Pasternak is going to score when he looks
00:22:49like that, you can say, well, of course, the Bruins and their superstars are going to do
00:22:52well on the night of pageantry, the centennial year.
00:22:56But like we've definitely like had games like that where you're like, oh, the win and like
00:23:01the Montreal Winter Classic at Gillette, where they got fucking stomped like, oh, oh, people
00:23:07there was this one game in 2019.
00:23:09No, no, no, we're good.
00:23:12When they were at home, I was really sure they were going to win a lot of pageantry
00:23:16for that one.
00:23:17Shut up.
00:23:18Also, it threw me off my train of thought.
00:23:24My brain just shut down.
00:23:25It's like, stop listening, building walls in your brain.
00:23:30Yeah.
00:23:31Okay.
00:23:32We can do.
00:23:33So like you said, like the beginning was like little, little boring, little like feeling
00:23:37each other out, like nothing crazy.
00:23:39And then fucking bam.
00:23:41Three goals in 70 seconds.
00:23:44Oh, we start with that McAvoy shake and bake wraparound.
00:23:51Chuck is moving.
00:23:52Chuck was moving all game long.
00:23:55I thought he was about to hit the bird, Sally, too.
00:23:57Did you notice that I did?
00:23:58I did.
00:23:59When he arms out and I was like, oh, but he didn't.
00:24:03I was like, that would have been random.
00:24:05But pretty.
00:24:07Weird.
00:24:08But he's never done that.
00:24:09That's not his Sally.
00:24:11And then what, 50 something seconds later, Pasta scores his first goal in eight games
00:24:18after nearly setting up Zaka with a goal to Primo made a great save on Zaka down low,
00:24:25like right next to the crease.
00:24:28But Judd had a very good call on the Pasta goal to said for David Pasta Rock, that had
00:24:33to feel like a century because it was his first goal in eight games.
00:24:37That's good.
00:24:38That's good.
00:24:39That's good.
00:24:40That's good.
00:24:41That's good.
00:24:42That's Jack ask.
00:24:43It is.
00:24:44I love when Judd starting to get, like, his moments of, like, he's clearly mad about something
00:24:48on the ice.
00:24:49Dude.
00:24:50Yes.
00:24:51There was one late in this game where Brick.
00:24:57It was the slashing call on Pasta.
00:24:59Yes, it was.
00:25:00Yeah.
00:25:01I know.
00:25:02I was like, you know, a similar thing happened to McAvoy a couple of shifts ago.
00:25:05You know, you got to be consistent.
00:25:07You know, I'm pretty sure I saw a stick slashed out of his hand and Judd was right there and
00:25:14he was like, or Zaka getting hit away from the play.
00:25:17How about that?
00:25:18Was there a call on that one?
00:25:19No.
00:25:20I was like, dude, there it is.
00:25:23Let it fly.
00:25:24Let it fly.
00:25:25Through you.
00:25:26Yeah.
00:25:27Something about that.
00:25:28Dude.
00:25:29It's like Jack's just going to haunt that booth for the next century.
00:25:34People are just going to hate them.
00:25:37He's just whispering about the Boston Massacre and Tea Party.
00:25:40Yeah, right.
00:25:41I got really into the Revolutionary War recently.
00:25:44Brick's just kind of, like, looking over and like, oh, God.
00:25:47Judd's growing hair.
00:25:48Yeah.
00:25:49He says, put the full Jack Maine, like, rant immediately.
00:25:55That'd be good.
00:25:58And then that third goal, which is only 15 seconds after the Boston goal, the coil backhand,
00:26:02which they did call for cast like at first.
00:26:05Yeah.
00:26:06But in the replay, Mike, that was very clearly coil with the backhand.
00:26:09A very nice backhand, too.
00:26:11Not to discount anything, but I really was just so solid when he's on.
00:26:16He is.
00:26:17He's just a round player.
00:26:18He's just like, he's a good guy in the corners.
00:26:19He's a smart heads up playmaker, and he's the guy who can finish a play like that.
00:26:24He can also just, like, the best looking goal of the year so far is him showing that
00:26:29he has hands, too.
00:26:30He's just a well-rounded, all around good play.
00:26:32I think that's why he's kind of the next natural one to kind of take over after Bergey, because
00:26:38it was like, OK, well, this is a well-rounded two way end to end player who can slot in
00:26:45anything that we need him to be.
00:26:47Not always on slow start to the year, streaky up and down, streaky, streaky is probably
00:26:52the most accurate way to put it.
00:26:54But when he's on, man, he's on.
00:26:56There's no limit to what facet of the game he can master.
00:26:59No, I completely agree.
00:27:00It's one of my notes here, honestly, is how good coils man hit the lone goal against Pittsburgh.
00:27:04Two goals in the Montreal game, one of which was like this.
00:27:08It was very similar to that other power play goal you're alluding to where you like kind
00:27:12of drew the goaltender out and then play the puck behind him to tuck it in the net.
00:27:18He did almost the exact same thing just at a different angle this game and in full flight.
00:27:23And again, that backhand goal is nice as a good backhand.
00:27:26Yeah.
00:27:27But his physicality has been great.
00:27:29Like he's I got nothing negative to say about coil right now.
00:27:32This is a bit of an oh, that's interesting.
00:27:34He was the only Bruins player who went under 50 percent at the dot in this game when he
00:27:39went eight.
00:27:40He won eight for 17.
00:27:41So he was just under it.
00:27:42Yeah.
00:27:43Still, it's interesting.
00:27:44It's interesting.
00:27:46But yeah, just like getting so used to not so used to, but being accustomed to Boston's
00:27:53offense struggling because that is one of the prevailing stories of the season, especially
00:27:57lately.
00:27:58Sure.
00:27:59In the last.
00:28:00I mean, yes, they had a six three win over the Islanders since we last talked.
00:28:04They've gone two and two in those two losses were a two one loss to Pittsburgh and then
00:28:09getting shut out by the Canucks.
00:28:12So offense still finding its way.
00:28:15But to start the game more or less with three goals in the first period in a matter of a
00:28:21minute and ten seconds is awesome.
00:28:24Like just like bang hugely, just protect it, which is mostly what they did.
00:28:29I mean, they very much did expand on it, but almost didn't.
00:28:33I mean, almost didn't.
00:28:35Almost didn't.
00:28:36Yeah.
00:28:37It was five one and then five to three at one point.
00:28:38And I was like, a lot of the tweets are like, are they going to fucking do it?
00:28:41Are they really going to do it?
00:28:43I was texting you and I was like, Rob, I swear to God, I couldn't even finish my thought.
00:28:47I was like, dude, don't even make me.
00:28:50Didn't make me think about how I'll react.
00:28:53Yeah.
00:28:54And there was some physicality in this game, too, like extracurriculars.
00:28:59Shortly after it was shortly after it was three nothing Arbor Jack, I got in somebody's
00:29:05face on the Bruins, like somebody that like, yeah, he that too.
00:29:08He would go after and they were like, no, like we're up three, nothing.
00:29:12I am giving you nothing.
00:29:14And McLaughlin stepped into Jack's face.
00:29:17I'm like, yeah, I did.
00:29:18Mark, do you know who this is, buddy?
00:29:24Mark is going to pull your neck like Laffy Taffy.
00:29:29So I was like, I mean, damn good on him for for doing that.
00:29:31So, yeah, Johnson out for this game, McLaughlin and I like McLaughlin's play.
00:29:36Very fine.
00:29:37Very fine.
00:29:38Very fine.
00:29:39Like, very all right.
00:29:42He's not giving you a reason to take him out.
00:29:44He's not really giving you a reason to bump him up at all.
00:29:46But like, yeah, I know he's doing his job.
00:29:48Like I do.
00:29:49I like this play.
00:29:50I like Johnson's play.
00:29:51I were reaching a point where I have far more positive things to say the negative things
00:29:55about most of the players on this team, like individually, which is a very good sign.
00:30:01Let's say, oh, OK, and then now you have the fourth goal.
00:30:08So this is the beginning of the second period.
00:30:10Ray Bork is in the booth in one.
00:30:12I forget just how French Canadian Ray Bork is until he starts talking like, yeah, I'm
00:30:16like, oh my God, dude, I'm on that like just heavy and I'm like, oh, like he says literally
00:30:23half a sentence.
00:30:24And I'm like, oh yeah, very, very French Canadian.
00:30:27Yeah, I never went away.
00:30:30But you got a Charlie McAvoy shorthanded breakaway goal with Ray Bork in the booth and they kiss
00:30:37the crest Sally to go up four to nothing against Montreal in the first twenty one minutes.
00:30:44Chef's kiss all around.
00:30:45It hurt.
00:30:46If I were writing a script for this game, that would have been to you.
00:30:51If I wrote that and showed it to you, be like, you got to take out one of these things like
00:30:55it can't be.
00:30:56It can't also be shorthanded.
00:30:57It can't also have work in the booth.
00:30:58You can't also do the Sally like pick two of the three or three realistic about this.
00:31:04Yeah.
00:31:05But we got it, we got a big it was the at a time we needed it to.
00:31:10Oh, yeah.
00:31:11And like we just we needed a real ass kicking game, but the runes are what, like sixteen
00:31:14on one or against Montreal right now, like in their last like that many games.
00:31:20Seventeen is the number sixteen plus one.
00:31:23It's either fifteen on one or sixteen on one.
00:31:25Jeremy Swain is all time record against Montreal is nine oh and one.
00:31:30That's awesome.
00:31:31Never lost to them in regulation, which I'm sure is a big part of that sixteen on one
00:31:36or fifteen on one.
00:31:38But and I'll even say I thought Swain had your game.
00:31:44Could I get nitpicky with a couple of those goals?
00:31:46Sure.
00:31:47But when you score six goals, you are afforded the privilege of not needing to do that.
00:31:51So I will not.
00:31:52And it's also like every every goal that I think might be soft against Sway.
00:31:59It takes two replays for me to go, oh, I guess there's there's more traffic in front than
00:32:04I thought.
00:32:05Yeah.
00:32:06Like that ran like that.
00:32:07Jack, I backhand the first goal.
00:32:08Mm hmm.
00:32:09I think it was like the five hole one, too.
00:32:11I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I should have gotten through that was soft and then you
00:32:16see it again.
00:32:17You're like, oh, he's kind of screened.
00:32:18Oh, Cole Caulfield's goal.
00:32:19Yeah.
00:32:20Also, it's Cole Caulfield.
00:32:22When that happened, I swear to God, when that play was developing and Caulfield like cut
00:32:28into like he like hit the brakes and then kind of a little bit and I saw it was him.
00:32:32I was like, oh, that's a goal.
00:32:33And then it was.
00:32:34It's Cole Caulfield.
00:32:35He's one of the leading goalscores in the league.
00:32:37He's so good.
00:32:38That will go.
00:32:39Yeah.
00:32:40Basically, the only guy on that roster you don't want with the puck in that position
00:32:43on their forehand with enough space to put a lot on it.
00:32:46It's like, yeah, like 60 percent of the time that's going to go in, regardless of who's
00:32:51in that.
00:32:52It's just going to go in.
00:32:53Yeah.
00:32:54Also, I was watching the Sportsnet replay and they only referring to McLaughlin as McLaughlin,
00:33:05which I'm curious, is that like an Irish thing?
00:33:07Is that like the actual pronunciation of it?
00:33:11I would imagine it sounds way more correct.
00:33:15Yeah, I've definitely heard both.
00:33:20So if I have family members who are McLaughlin's, so I grew up saying McLaughlin.
00:33:25So when I saw that, I was like, oh, yeah, McLaughlin.
00:33:28But it's I don't even say my own name correctly.
00:33:30So I'm certainly not the only man.
00:33:33Nobody does truly.
00:33:35So I'm by no means the authority on proper pronunciation.
00:33:38Let's check.
00:33:39Let's check his reference page.
00:33:40See if he's got a.
00:33:41Does Jack Edwards have a video?
00:33:43Lachlan?
00:33:44Yeah.
00:33:45McLaughlin.
00:33:46Oh, OK.
00:33:47All right.
00:33:48Well, I'm wrong.
00:33:49Let's go back to your Sportsnet.
00:33:50My be.
00:33:51Yes, Joe.
00:33:52Nickname Ichabod Crane.
00:33:53Interesting.
00:33:54Oh, I put that in there.
00:33:56Yeah, it was us.
00:33:57It was us.
00:33:58What are they?
00:33:59Oh, McMuffin.
00:34:00McLaughlin.
00:34:01That's what the team calls them.
00:34:06The Big Easy.
00:34:08That's Laura.
00:34:09Convinced.
00:34:10It's Mark McLaughlin.
00:34:11Speaking of Laura, I swear to like halfway through the second period, I out loud went
00:34:16Laura is in this game.
00:34:18I didn't know he was playing.
00:34:19I didn't notice him in the first 30 minutes, which is not always the worst thing when you're
00:34:23a defenseman.
00:34:24But I was like, huh, I if you asked me, be like, Rob, is Lawrence can be like, no, he's
00:34:30not.
00:34:31He's not playing this game.
00:34:32I mean, how much would he get 14 minutes?
00:34:39It's third pairing numbers.
00:34:40Austerly, I think, is look pretty good again, like I'm very fine like that, but that's what
00:34:47I want from a call up defenseman when Hampus is still, quote, weeks away.
00:34:52Thanks, Sacco, for ruining everything.
00:34:55I don't know.
00:34:56I'm saying that it's not remotely small.
00:34:58That's not what's happening at all.
00:34:59It's not.
00:35:00Not fair.
00:35:01No.
00:35:02We're out here, Laura.
00:35:03I with the least minutes of any defenseman, by the way, that that's fine.
00:35:08That's make sense.
00:35:09Actually, actually, almost at 20.
00:35:11That's good.
00:35:12He's solid, dude.
00:35:13Like he's a very good depth guy to have right now.
00:35:16I'm very happy that Australia was in that lineup, but I would prefer to keep him in.
00:35:20Yeah, I would love to just cycle.
00:35:23Keep cycling through who's next to Charlie until you just until you find his guy until
00:35:29it's like so obviously the right pick that you're like, don't we stop now?
00:35:33Yeah.
00:35:34Also, it could be that.
00:35:38I during all of the shit with Jack, I was really expecting the door up to go over and
00:35:43be like me.
00:35:46Go me.
00:35:47Yeah.
00:35:48It doesn't work.
00:35:49What do you mean?
00:35:52People don't go with him.
00:35:54No, they won't.
00:35:55Yeah.
00:35:56Jack is also a guy in the league that like it's not an obvious door has got it.
00:36:03I'd be like, we could get the door of you could very much get the door of not a lot
00:36:09of guys in the league that I have that, you know, hesitation to to feel confident in.
00:36:14But Jack, I could fucking throw, dude.
00:36:18He's like Rempe if he didn't suck ass.
00:36:21Matt Rempe is no good.
00:36:24It's crazy how how much he had the hockey community on his side when he like came up
00:36:32like when he was doing his thing early on, how beloved he was an old time hockey back.
00:36:37Oh, that one was a little high, but yeah, but keep go.
00:36:41Oh my God.
00:36:42They really played again.
00:36:43Didn't really play the puck there.
00:36:44Oh, he didn't have the puck.
00:36:45Oh, wow.
00:36:46He is chin.
00:36:47He's hitting a lot of chins like I was on the bench.
00:36:53Speaking of bench, my time might start off.
00:36:58Yes, my timing might be up, but I feel like Rempe showed up shortly after Jack.
00:37:01I did because like Jack, I was doing the same thing, just beating the wheels off of everybody
00:37:05because like, well, the fuck is this guy?
00:37:07And New York's like, we got one of those.
00:37:09And it's like you have like the it's like that's not the same thing.
00:37:13Oh, you have like the what's the team version of it?
00:37:17Yeah.
00:37:18Or whatever it is.
00:37:19You have the team of Solani version of that.
00:37:22Yeah.
00:37:2370 plus goals in his rookie season.
00:37:26Yeah.
00:37:27Charlie Coyle scored another goal.
00:37:30Yeah, he did.
00:37:32We talked about a little bit.
00:37:33This was after a really another very bad Montreal turnover.
00:37:35And it was at this point in the game and watching the recap that I'm like, Montreal kind of
00:37:39just fuck.
00:37:40It sucks.
00:37:41Like I love that we won this game six to three.
00:37:44And that's good.
00:37:45And it's very good for the team.
00:37:47You did it against the worst team in the division who like for 50 of these 60 minutes basically
00:37:52were like, no, you can have it.
00:37:54No, it's astounding.
00:37:56Honestly, it's quite astounding how horrible they really look.
00:38:04In practice.
00:38:05Yeah, it really it really was like, I don't want to take anything away from the win.
00:38:09Like you needed to win like this and like the team still looked good regardless of who's
00:38:12on the other side of the ice.
00:38:13But it's kind of unavoidable.
00:38:15They are one point away from being the worst team in the National Hockey League.
00:38:20The Blackhawks have 18, the Canadians 19.
00:38:24So we're seeing the Eastern Conference second worst in National.
00:38:28The standings are bonkers right now to me.
00:38:30You got the wild in first place, the wild and jets duking it out and the devils right
00:38:38there with him because the devils beat their shit out of the Rangers tonight five to one.
00:38:42So those are the three teams with 36 points and then you have Washington Capitals right
00:38:45there with 35 of an OV less Washington Capitals and Ovechkin is skating already two weeks
00:38:53after fracturing his fibula already skating.
00:38:57Rush machine only breaks for a couple of weeks.
00:39:00Yeah, it'll be back machine.
00:39:03Don't break until it does.
00:39:04And then it just needs a little bit.
00:39:05Rush machine went down for maintenance.
00:39:07That's it.
00:39:08Yeah, it'll be a couple of minutes.
00:39:12Maybe this is too big of a conversation for right now and we have some more friends that
00:39:15I got to talk to in a second.
00:39:17But Ovi or Crosby, who retires first, they retire together.
00:39:26I think Crosby could probably retire.
00:39:28I don't know what his contract is, actually.
00:39:30I think that's a pretty important thing to know.
00:39:32He's got, I think he just got was it one more year, 8.7 mil.
00:39:37I think it was two years.
00:39:38Oh, Ovechkin, probably.
00:39:40Yeah, I think Ovi retires when he breaks it.
00:39:43If he if he can come back in time and still manage to keep on pace and break it this year,
00:39:47I think he retires.
00:39:48But again, how many more does he need?
00:39:50Doesn't he need 30 more, something more?
00:39:52I don't even know about Ovechkin's contract.
00:39:54He is on contract until the end of next season.
00:39:58OK, so he wouldn't.
00:39:59So he would have at least one more.
00:40:00So I think Ovechkin retires before Crosby based off their contracts, because I think
00:40:07Ovechkin will absolutely break it by the end of next season, barring any future injuries
00:40:11or anything.
00:40:12It's just going to remember how impossible we thought that was like four years ago with
00:40:17him breaking it.
00:40:18Yeah.
00:40:19Yeah.
00:40:20We're like, oh, no.
00:40:21He needs five more years of 40 plus goals.
00:40:24He wasn't doing that well for a while.
00:40:26He was struggling like he came off of like a 50 plus goal season and then like it dried
00:40:30up and we're like, oh, he's done.
00:40:32And then he just found the fountain of youth again this year and was just like, no, I scored
00:40:37four goals.
00:40:38It's like it's the first period like, oh, yeah, I'll score.
00:40:42I'll score more.
00:40:43It's fine.
00:40:44I think it was probably around 2021.
00:40:46No, he still had 24 goals a year.
00:40:51Jesus Christ.
00:40:52This guy's good, huh?
00:40:53Can I run down Ovechkin's goal totals by season?
00:40:59Yeah.
00:41:00Hit me.
00:41:0152, 46, 65, 56, 50, 32, 38, 32, 51, 53, 50, 33, 49, 51, 48, 24, 50, 42, 31, and then 15
00:41:16this year.
00:41:17Yeah, that's a guy that's going to break the all-time record.
00:41:19Yeah, he's right there, huh?
00:41:21He has the all-time record for power play goals and the all-time record for shots on
00:41:26goals.
00:41:27People don't talk about that one.
00:41:28Interesting.
00:41:29I'm curious when that started to be recorded, too.
00:41:31That's true.
00:41:32That's true.
00:41:33Cal Clutterbuck is the all-time leader in hits.
00:41:34And I'm like, I have to imagine that if we were recording it, it would probably be somebody
00:41:39else.
00:41:40He's led the National Hockey League in shots 11 different times.
00:41:43Pasternak kind of takes that over now.
00:41:45I think he's still leading the league in shots right now.
00:41:47He's like 105.
00:41:50The Eurovision had 528.
00:41:55It's fucking what?
00:41:59It's over 79.
00:42:00Wait, how many averaging over six per game?
00:42:05It's like six and a half per game.
00:42:07528 divided by 79.
00:42:10Yeah, 6.68.
00:42:11You got to trust me on that.
00:42:14Averaged almost seven shots a game.
00:42:17Fuck off.
00:42:18Shut up.
00:42:19Unbelievable.
00:42:20How about the Bruins, though?
00:42:23If you want to see these Bruins now that they're looking okay, listen, there's nothing like
00:42:30the roar of the crowd.
00:42:33There is nothing like being there in person.

00:43:07I'm not talking to you the entire concert.
00:43:08I don't know what you're talking about.
00:43:10No, I don't plan on talking.
00:43:11I mean, the whole crowd is going to be silently listening.
00:43:14That's how I imagine.
00:43:15My emo bangs are going to be covering my eyes anyway.

00:44:01Game Time.
00:44:02Game Time.
00:44:03Was it Jack guy that punched the linesman in the face?
00:44:09Yes.
00:44:10But Casta also did that.
00:44:13He did it before the camera zoomed in on them, though, and he kind of hit him with his forearm
00:44:18a little bit.
00:44:19He definitely swung at him, at Jack guy, and he definitely mostly caught ref.
00:44:25And then immediately afterwards, Jack guy through and more cleanly caught the ref.
00:44:30I think Judd at that point, it's like, oh, yeah, it's all right for it's like, oh, yeah.
00:44:37For so many people, Nesson was still in commercial for that point, which is so weird that one
00:44:42that would happen to shoot that it didn't happen for everybody because that didn't happen
00:44:44for me.
00:44:45Well, because a lot of people watch on Nesson 360, then some people are streaming on the
00:44:48Nesson app.
00:44:49Then some people are streaming on Nesson dot com and some people are like, you know, watching
00:44:52on cable, watching Nesson.
00:44:54I think it was a cable issue.
00:44:56God, man.
00:44:57They just don't they have no clue what they're doing over there.
00:45:01They really don't.
00:45:02I think it's really technology.
00:45:04I think it's that they just they refuse to have like the right technology and pay people
00:45:08qualified to do the jobs that they're I think John Henry is in charge of it, I think is
00:45:13the issue.
00:45:14They a little hands on he yeah, he's very hands on with Nesson of all of his investments.
00:45:19He's like, this is my real cash cow is the New England Sports Network.
00:45:24He owns Liverpool.
00:45:25I think he forgets he owns the Bruins sometimes.
00:45:28He doesn't own the Bruins.
00:45:29I think he forgets he owns Nesson sometimes.
00:45:31Yes, he does own Nesson.
00:45:33That's what I think.
00:45:34So I was confused thinking of another rich billionaire.
00:45:37I think he owns like 51% of Nesson.
00:45:41That's that's all.
00:45:42I mean, that's enough.
00:45:43That's more than half.
00:45:44Yeah, it's most of it by my calculations.
00:45:47Stick with me.
00:45:48We'll hard hitting mathematical equations and deductions.
00:45:5151% is more than half.
00:45:54We've got all sorts of math on this show.
00:45:56The math is out here.
00:45:57Centennial math.
00:45:58All right.
00:45:59Okay.
00:46:00Math bear.
00:46:01There it is.
00:46:05That's something.
00:46:06Write that down.
00:46:07David has been looking pretty fucking good lately, dude.
00:46:10He's been looking good lately.
00:46:11Like the small sample size.
00:46:13I don't want him to be streaky.
00:46:14I want to be always good, but the goal is big.
00:46:18I still feel very confident that he's going to pop off at some point.
00:46:23What have I been saying?
00:46:25Like ten goals in four games or something outrageous like that.
00:46:28Yeah.
00:46:29You were saying, like, three hat tricks in a week or something crazy.
00:46:32He's going to at some point in the season, he's going to have two hat tricks within two
00:46:35weeks of each other, which generally with him is a safe bet, really, any season.
00:46:42But even just like passing, he's been making great passes, great plays, great defensively.
00:46:46He hasn't been, I don't know, so pasta about it.
00:46:51He's been a bit tighter with his play, but like more disciplined.
00:46:55But at the same time, like still loose and like offensively when you want him to be in
00:47:00great vision lately.
00:47:02And I really think when he turns his tide, like when he comes around to his play, especially
00:47:11if it's the same time Swayman finds his game, this team is about to kind of fucking pop
00:47:15off.
00:47:16I really feel like we're heating up right now.
00:47:19I really think like the booster rockets are about to go off and this team is going to
00:47:24be nasty for like a significant stretch of time.
00:47:27Still we're out there.
00:47:28Like we're not like it's on now, but like there's I don't know.
00:47:33And it may just be like the placebo effect of a coaching change or whatever.
00:47:37But I just feel a lot more optimistic about this team over the last six games than I did
00:47:41in the previous 20.
00:47:44And how much of it is.
00:47:45And to supplement that, I did some math.
00:47:48Oh, math bear, math bear, math bear, new segment and an end of six and 20 small sample sizes.
00:47:59But under Sacco goals per game are up.
00:48:02Goals against per game are down.
00:48:03Shots per game are up.
00:48:05Shots allowed per game are down and hits per game are up.
00:48:10All good trends.
00:48:11Small sample size, you know, like they're averaging 2.7 a game now goals as a Wesley
00:48:18goals, whereas 2.4 before.
00:48:20And now they're letting up less than two goals per game where they were letting up almost
00:48:23three and a half under Montgomery.
00:48:24So the defense is tightening up, which is very important.
00:48:30So I the trend they're in since Sacco took over has been much better.
00:48:34And then if you wanted to go to the eye test and say, fuck the numbers, zone entries so
00:48:38much better.
00:48:39Power play looks so much more dangerous.
00:48:41Still not great.
00:48:42Power play is basically identical, like creepy, identical.
00:48:47It was 11.7% under money and it's 11.8% under Sacco right now.
00:48:53So yeah, you know, the conversions aren't there, but even just again, the eye test,
00:48:58like seeing how they get into the zone and how they set up and like the shots they're
00:49:00taking again, they had 18 shots on the power play under the first game with Sacco.
00:49:06So I do think things are trending very well right now.
00:49:09And then not even just like team wise, but like individually, like posture knocks looking
00:49:12better and coils heating up and Corpus solo continues to be a pleasant surprise.
00:49:17I do think has been playing better.
00:49:18Like I think the goals that are going in or not, like Jeremy, come on, like you got to
00:49:24you got to stop that one.
00:49:26I just I feel I'm bullish on this team, right?
00:49:29You think it did the job of kicking them in the ass?
00:49:32I did.
00:49:33I really do.
00:49:34I think that I think as simple as like, hey, you didn't play well for the first quarter
00:49:38of the season so much so that we had to fire the coach.
00:49:41And I think that really woke them up.
00:49:43And I do think we got to them in the way that you would want it to.
00:49:48I also think maintaining this style of play, this level of play gets Sacco a full time
00:49:57job.
00:50:00I think that's really dependent on who would be available.
00:50:04I do think of the Penguins fire Mike Sullivan, the Bruins bring him in like almost immediately
00:50:08kind of like what St. Louis did with Montgomery.
00:50:13Other than that, and we don't have to get into it now, but I have there's been some
00:50:18nuance in the Quentinville discussion that maybe we can get into in the future.
00:50:21But I do think at this point, like it still is Sacco's like he's in the driver's seat.
00:50:28I don't know if he needs to have like a stellar season to maintain the job or just a pretty
00:50:35good like if they get into the playoffs and like do pretty well, even if they just get
00:50:43into the playoffs, I think that might be enough for him to stay in.
00:50:46But I don't know.
00:50:47I'm really curious to see how it plays out.
00:50:49But for now, I mean, that's months and months away and we still have, what, 56 games left.
00:50:56So time will tell.
00:50:57Time will tell.
00:50:58Time will tell.
00:50:59Time will tell.
00:51:00How about Kepke's empty netter goal?
00:51:05How about did you see the clip I sent you?
00:51:07I did.
00:51:08I did see the clip.
00:51:09Yeah.
00:51:10So Chuck had two.
00:51:11McAvoy had two.
00:51:12Both the Chucks had two, but McAvoy on the ice for the empty netter.
00:51:19Kepke kind of had an opportunity to give him the puck, but not really trailing.
00:51:24He was there, but it would have been through a defense.
00:51:27It would have been in the vicinity of like two Montreal players.
00:51:30It would have been a ugly giveaway had, you know, a pass not worked.
00:51:36We all would have been like, dude, just shoot, just score, like just get the goal.
00:51:39And Brick said as much.
00:51:40He was like, you know, like you want to give him the hat trick, but like in that instance,
00:51:43in this layout of players, just take the shot, just get the guaranteed goal.
00:51:49Yeah.
00:51:50And the Bruins posted a clip from an upcoming behind the B after the game.
00:51:55Harshi gives the game puck to McAvoy, you know, does the whole good game boys, you know,
00:52:01turn it into something good stuff, fellows, and then ends his speech with, oh, and kept
00:52:06nice goal.
00:52:07Good empty netter.
00:52:08That was sweet.
00:52:09Congrats.
00:52:10Like enough.
00:52:11So where I'm like, is he actually mad?
00:52:17It was really good.
00:52:18Hey, it's nice.
00:52:19Cool.
00:52:20It would have been the first defenseman on a Bruins defenseman of the hat tricks since
00:52:22Chara.
00:52:23Yeah.
00:52:24Against Carolina.
00:52:26That's insane.
00:52:27The Chara ever had a hat trick.
00:52:28He did.
00:52:29Right.
00:52:30Here come the shop.
00:52:31Oh, yeah.
00:52:32But he had a really good celly that whipped the head off.
00:52:37I remember that.
00:52:38I don't remember that.
00:52:39Really?
00:52:40Oh, it's a good one.
00:52:41It's a good one.
00:52:42I mean, they're classically Charlie blue line goals for the most part, or at least one of
00:52:45them is.
00:52:46But how many of those right now from the bees?
00:52:49Not really.
00:52:50I mean, they're shooting more Ray Bork actually talked for a little bit of time about what
00:52:57he thinks of McAvoy and the advice he has given him and he would give him now.
00:53:03And the implication or even just what he was saying was that he thinks he defers the shot
00:53:08too much and that he needs to.
00:53:12I think that between the reading between the lines is like, you're a superstar.
00:53:15Shoot the fucking puck.
00:53:17Trust yourself.
00:53:18Yeah.
00:53:19Yeah.
00:53:20Yeah.
00:53:21Yeah.
00:53:22Yeah.
00:53:23Yeah.
00:53:24Yeah.
00:53:25Yeah.
00:53:26Yeah.
00:53:27Yeah.
00:53:28Yeah.
00:53:29Yeah.
00:53:30Yeah.
00:53:31Yeah.
00:53:32Yeah.
00:53:33Yeah.
00:53:34Yeah.
00:53:35Yeah.
00:53:36Yeah.
00:53:37Yeah.
00:53:38Yeah.
00:53:39Yeah.
00:53:40Yeah.
00:53:41Yeah.
00:53:42Yeah.
00:53:43Yeah.
00:53:44Yeah.
00:53:45Yeah.
00:53:46Yeah.
00:53:47Yeah.
00:53:48Yeah.
00:53:49Yeah.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:51Yeah.
00:53:52Yeah.
00:53:53Yeah.
00:53:54Yeah.
00:53:55Yeah.
00:53:56Yeah.
00:53:57Yeah.
00:53:58Yeah.
00:53:59Yeah.
00:54:00Yeah.
00:54:01Yeah.
00:54:02Yeah.
00:54:03Yeah.
00:54:04Yeah.
00:54:05Yeah.
00:54:06Yeah.
00:54:07Yeah.
00:54:08Yeah.
00:54:09Yeah.
00:54:10Yeah.
00:54:11Yeah.
00:54:12Yeah.
00:54:13Yeah.
00:54:14Yeah.
00:54:15Yeah.
00:54:16Yeah.
00:54:17Yeah.
00:54:18Yeah.
00:54:19Yeah.
00:54:20Yeah.
00:54:21Yeah.
00:54:22Yeah.
00:54:23Yeah.
00:54:24Yeah.
00:54:25Yeah.
00:54:26Yeah.
00:54:27Yeah.
00:54:28Yeah.
00:54:29Yeah.
00:54:30Yeah.
00:54:31Yeah.
00:54:32Yeah.
00:54:33Yeah.
00:54:34Yeah.
00:54:35Yeah.
00:54:36Yeah.
00:54:37Yeah.
00:54:38Yeah.
00:54:39Yeah.
00:54:40Yeah.
00:54:41Yeah.
00:54:42Yeah.
00:54:43Yeah.
00:54:44Yeah.
00:54:45Yeah.
00:54:46Yeah.
00:54:47Hey, day two.
00:54:48Yeah.
00:54:49Maybe we are approaching the end of mission 14 W.
00:54:53Oh, yeah, I've been.
00:54:54I've meant to remind you to update that graphic.
00:54:57How are we?
00:54:58Yeah, I haven't.
00:54:59But we are, but we are.
00:55:01This is probably the last episode before they come to the end of that.
00:55:07It's going to be the final three games.
00:55:10Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia.
00:55:15Where are we at on that though?
00:55:20That would be the end of it.
00:55:21So two.
00:55:22I'm just like currently there are two points, four points, six points, eight points, so
00:55:27they have eight so far.
00:55:29So if we hit 14, we need to win the next three games.
00:55:31If you want 14 points out of this stretch, you've got to win all three of these games,
00:55:36but it's against Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia.
00:55:39So I mean, and you need it because after that stretch, Rob Winnipeg, Seattle, Vancouver,
00:55:48Calgary, Edmonton, Buffalo, Washington, Jesus Christ, that is a murderer's row right now.
00:55:55Yeah.
00:55:57So you need these three games bad.
00:55:59I don't think I think you need all six points like, yeah, no, you do it any other way.
00:56:06It doesn't really feel good.
00:56:08OK, well, I was looking at the standings earlier and the Bruins right now are in a playoff
00:56:14spot.
00:56:15Yeah, but only in the Atlantic Division will their 27 points get you into a playoff spot.
00:56:23If they had one less point, they wouldn't even have a wild card spot right now.
00:56:28They have 27 points and two Eastern Conference wild cards are also 27 points, but they're
00:56:34both in the metro.
00:56:36So they are not only barely hanging on the playoff spot, like again, like if they lost
00:56:40one of their previous wins in overtime or lost it in overtime, sorry, they would not
00:56:47at all be in a playoff spot right now.
00:56:49It's fucking you know, it's December 2nd, like the playoff spot thing is more like,
00:56:53you know, a soft metric of like how the team's doing.
00:56:57It's not that critical.
00:57:00But talking about, yeah, like accumulating points, it's like they also have played.
00:57:03There's only two teams in the league who've played more games in the Bruins right now.
00:57:08Like they they don't have a game in hand advantage.
00:57:10Like not only are they less than points in a lot of teams, but like a lot of these teams
00:57:14have like two, three, four games in hand on Boston.
00:57:18So yeah, you play the three next games against three winnable beat or beatable opponents.
00:57:24You got to fucking do that.
00:57:26I look forward to the higher end opponents coming afterwards.
00:57:32But for now, it's like, yeah, dude, like you got a point farm right now.
00:57:36I don't give a shit what it looks like.
00:57:39Just fucking get the wins.
00:57:41Yeah, we should make another another little chart to keep up with for the next.
00:57:47We name all these little chapters that you call them chapters.
00:57:50I know you like to break it up that way.
00:57:52Yeah, that usually I mean, this is the gauntlet right here.
00:57:55Columbus.
00:57:56I mean, what's Columbus doing these days?
00:57:58Not much.
00:57:59Not much.
00:58:00It's like really one reprieve there in the middle.
00:58:03We have a back to back against them, actually home.
00:58:07There's six in the metro.
00:58:10So there are they're not awful.
00:58:12But when here's something terrible, tomorrow's game against Detroit is an ESPN plus exclusive.
00:58:19My fucking word.
00:58:22Love it.
00:58:23Blackout.
00:58:24So many more games on the game.
00:58:25Time out.
00:58:26Get there.
00:58:27It's going to be cheaper.
00:58:28Go to the game.
00:58:29It's going to be way cheaper to just go see it than to watch at home.
00:58:34And honestly, prices right now are pretty, pretty good.
00:58:37They're pretty, pretty bucks.
00:58:38They're pretty brutal in the Pittsburgh game for the day.
00:58:42But yeah, no, they're like 60 dollars.
00:58:44I know I'm seeing all in pricing two tickets.
00:58:47Sixty one.
00:58:48Not bad.
00:58:49Not bad.
00:58:50I know we're nearing the end of the show.
00:58:55I would say we're speeding towards it or hurtling towards it.
00:58:59Screaming even.
00:59:00But I would be remiss if I didn't give an update on my pride and joy.
00:59:04My baby boy, Matthew Padre.
00:59:07How's he doing?
00:59:08He's doing well.
00:59:09He's doing all right.
00:59:11So he's played eight games so far in Providence.
00:59:14Feels like it should be more, but it's not.
00:59:17Five assists, which is enough.
00:59:19He is six on the team and assists already and has one through five on the team.
00:59:25Have twice as many games, if not more.
00:59:29So he's he's moving on up, and so he's he already has more points in Providence in eight
00:59:34games than he did in Boston in 14 games.
00:59:39And they've recently this last game, they moved him up to the top line centering Merkulov
00:59:43and Letary, where he was previously on the third line in between Max Jones and Fabian
00:59:48Lysel.
00:59:49And a lot of the clubs I see are him making big plays on the power play.
00:59:54Mm hmm.
00:59:56Which you could use.
00:59:57I was trying to find a charming way of being like, you know, we could probably use a helping
01:00:04hand on the power play.
01:00:07The Boston 12% Bruins, I genuinely don't think he's going to get called up anytime soon.
01:00:16I just don't.
01:00:17You don't.
01:00:18I don't think that's their plan for him right now.
01:00:20I think they want him to just mature.
01:00:24I think it was Mark who pointed out that like, Crachy played 90 games in Providence before
01:00:31he even had a foothold in the NHL.
01:00:34Like Patra's still 20 years old.
01:00:36Like he's got plenty of fucking time.
01:00:39He still has weight to gain.
01:00:40Like he's still probably another 10 pounds or so to gain.
01:00:43And then he'll be at that like standard five, 11, six foot, 200 pound player.
01:00:46Like you'll be all right.
01:00:48I just let him condition, let him trust his shot more, let him gain some weight, let him,
01:00:55I don't know, get more used to the physicality of it.
01:00:58Cause he was getting buried in the NHL like every game.
01:01:02I don't know if I'm just protecting my heart when I say that I don't think he's going to
01:01:06get called up soon, but like the revolving door they have with Providence boss right
01:01:09now, like he is not a part of it.
01:01:12It's McLaughlin, Smirkylove, it's Osterling, I mean, he's a defenseman.
01:01:17But I think you will see Merkel ever Lysel up before Patra.
01:01:23I really hope I'm wrong.
01:01:24I fucking miss Matt Potter and I do genuinely believe he can significantly contribute to
01:01:28the Bruins right now, but I do think it's possible.
01:01:32They're thinking more long-term with him and they think that it's best for his development
01:01:39to be playing in the HL at the moment.
01:01:43I don't think you're wrong.
01:01:45It's sad.
01:01:48Yeah, I just, I don't know.
01:01:52I think I firmly, I believed he was an NHL player before the season and like that just
01:01:59hasn't changed.
01:02:00No, he, he's again, like I've been watching as much of the Providence games as I can and
01:02:08he's just a very, very good playmaker.
01:02:11And I just, I don't know, I could go on about this, but I'd just be going in circles.
01:02:17It's like, I think he can contribute at the NHL level, but I also think there may be value
01:02:21to letting him, you know, mature a little bit more in the HL at the moment.
01:02:27That's it.
01:02:28Also, they couldn't fire Neely and Sweeney a few weeks ago because if they did, they
01:02:32would have to awkwardly invite them back for this centennial game and it would have been
01:02:35weird.
01:02:36So now we can fire them because we don't have any more.
01:02:39They owe the end of an era.
01:02:41Good bye.
01:02:42See you.
01:02:43That's the announcement.
01:02:44They put them in the vault time to close this chapter.
01:02:50We'll don cam step forward.
01:02:53They're being escorted by the larger men.
01:02:57That's where char was.
01:02:58He was getting ready to escort them because he was going to take over as president.
01:03:01Part of me thinks char will be president of the Boston Bruins one day.
01:03:05I think it'd be president of these United States.
01:03:10A lot of people like when Monty was getting fired, they're like, oh, people really want
01:03:16Berger on the coach.
01:03:17Like, just because you're a great player doesn't mean you'll be a good coach.
01:03:19I'm like, yes, but this is Bergeron we're talking about.
01:03:21Like, this is like we're like the most like high IQ hockey players I think I've ever seen.
01:03:27So I think, yeah, he might be.
01:03:29I mean, I know Gretzky is probably the highest IQ hockey player of all time and he was not
01:03:33a good coach.
01:03:35That argument I might have just thrown out the window on my own, but I also I want him
01:03:39to relax.
01:03:40Oh, yeah.
01:03:41It's way too fucking soon.
01:03:42Like if it's going to happen, it's going to be in like five to ten years.
01:03:45Like when his kids are like out of the house, however many years that is now.
01:03:49But I think he just wants to be a dad, which like, yeah, you fucking earned it.
01:03:52Like you.
01:03:53Yeah.
01:03:54You destroyed your body for this city.
01:03:57So enjoy your retirement, Patrice.
01:04:00We love you.
01:04:01Thanks for that, Patrice.
01:04:02All right.
01:04:03We'll be back.
01:04:05After this thrilling week of Bruins hockey, I'll probably be back for the weekend, but
01:04:10that probably makes sense to wait for the three of them, right?
01:04:12Because otherwise it's Detroit and Chicago, in which case, like I mean, no, we should
01:04:20do that.
01:04:21Yeah.
01:04:22Yeah.
01:04:23Yeah.
01:04:24Because I don't want to wait till Sunday.
01:04:25Yeah.
01:04:26Yeah.
01:04:27It's a full week.
01:04:28All right.
01:04:29We'll be back.
01:04:30We'll be back and talk to you guys.
