00:00Poke the bear is brought to you by price picks and the game time app
00:06And welcome in to poke the bear episode
00:10264 presented by prize picks and game time tickets. My name is Conor Ryan. And once again, we are joined by
00:1695 the sports hubs
00:18Ty Anderson Ty what's going on? What's up, man? How we doing?
00:23Doing well, we are in the in the thick of it in terms of preseason games and I don't know about you Ty
00:29We're recording this right after the Bruins lost to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden
00:36Was a that was a preseason game wasn't a whole lot going on wasn't a whole lot
00:39I'm really glean from again. You have David Poster on plane. You got McAvoy got the door off got a few guys in there
00:47Not a whole lot to draw from that game that was a lot of the the veterans got there working got there skating in
00:55Yeah, that's about it wasn't a lot to really draw from that one, right no not a lot to draw from that one
01:01That was one of the more preseason games that I've ever preseasoned in my life. I must say and so
01:08Not too too much to kind of take away from that game to be honest with you
01:13You got you got to look at some line combinations some player combos
01:17But beyond that
01:19Just kind of a big old nothing
01:22And it kind of felt that way too, you know after the game
01:25Jim Montgomery was just kind of saying like yeah, we didn't really
01:28Pressure a lot and it was it made life hard for ourselves
01:32it's like yeah, it's kind of how it felt and it was it was kind of hard to watch because I
01:36Think once a game gets away from in the preseason you naturally get into like, all right
01:41Let's just let's just get through this running clock. Please. It was it was it was a running clock kind of game
01:46I in my opinion, yeah run the clock go in go out grab a slice of Sbarro pizza
01:51Hit the road. Yeah, good day. Good day in New York City the picture with Elmo in Times Square
01:56Do we get it get it get attacked by like a goofy where like his face is half-missing looks at his face
02:02Yes, true, New York experiences as they say
02:06But when you look at if we're trying to draw any sort of takeaways or something from it burning bussy
02:16You know, he gives up four goals
02:18Rebound control was a little bit of an issue. Like some of it was was bad luck, right?
02:23Like breakaway goal from offman where it's a door off didn't look all that great there
02:28Five on three goal by Adam Fox earlier on in that game
02:32But still a lot of rebounds a lot of pucks in grade a ice
02:37You know a lot of grade a chances generated by the Rangers in that game
02:41what have you made of bussies preseason so far from what you saw both last Sunday and Thursday and
02:48Is there any cause for concern for what you've seen for him so far out of these two games?
02:54Yeah, you know as a general rule of thumb
02:56I try not to get too high or too low with a goalie in the preseason if we go back
03:03famously in
03:042021 Lena Solmark had a wretched post preseason and then was great in the regular season from about
03:11November
03:1210th or something on he was incredible
03:15So as a general rule of thumb, I try not to get too high or too low with preseason results with that said
03:23This was clearly an opportunity for bussy to establish himself and to make life interesting
03:29independent of what happens with Jeremy Swayman
03:32Because listen if they signed Swayman and bussy was what you saw a year ago in the preseason
03:37And he was making these acrobatic saves and he's looking fantastic. It's like, okay
03:42There's a legit reason to to either wave corpus alo or go with three goalies and let the battle rage on
03:48Into the regular season as we've talked about
03:51but if you're gonna begin the the preseason with
03:54In 864 a couple of goals that I think are stoppable a couple are just sick, right?
04:00Like that Crider deflection is great. He's one of the best in the world at that
04:04The the fourth goal where the guy gets his own rebound bats out of the air like that's that's just ridiculous
04:12But what I would say though, is that like, okay, well you gotta stop that initial shot
04:15you can't let that rebound get right back to him, so
04:18Structurally, there's been some things that I think are a little the rebounds been pretty big. I would say and just kind of that
04:26That that demeanor that your six-foot-five goalie has to have of like, okay
04:31The game is kind of getting away from them, but he's gonna make the saves here, right?
04:34Like you kind of need more that I think if he's gonna make camp interesting and through two games
04:39I we haven't really seen it but
04:41You know again, it's how much weight you want to put in to a preseason performance
04:48It like so that's where I get I get kind of stuck in the middle ground there
04:52But I will say that to make things interesting. He's got to be better
04:55He's got to be better than what he's shown through two games so far. Yeah, absolutely
04:58I think that's the biggest key right and it's as you said, we're at the stage of the preseason where yes
05:02We've got three games down now, but you look at like Cooper Salo who looked really solid in his
05:08reps
05:09but had seven shots on goal like was looked really solid with square two pucks ceiling off the post doing all the things you
05:16The basics you expect from a guy who's able to turn aside a lot of those short opportunities
05:21But seven shots seven shots like listen
05:24It's a lot better if he gave up four off of seven shots
05:27then we'd be freaking out right when you look at just what the state of this goalie core is but
05:32It does I think reinforce whether it's bussy who's
05:36Been off and on so far during the preseason or corporate solo who looks good
05:40But you see more of it obviously going forward. I imagine he's probably gonna get a full game here pretty soon
05:47It does reinforce once again that you look at this team. You look at the roster a lot to like about it
05:52man, you feel a whole lot better if you had
05:54you had number one in net because it does feel like that is the one kind of just looming thing right now where
06:00Defense even with
06:02again, a preseason game few few mistakes few a few boo-boos here and there what you deal with but
06:10Decor look strong a lot of options up front
06:14If you have to open the year on October 8th with corporate solo and bussy and it's not to say that I'm writing those guys
06:20Off I'm not saying that corporate sol is gonna be what he was last year
06:23Bussy what he's shown so far in the preseason is gonna carry over to the regular season
06:27But at the most volatile position in hockey like that is a
06:31Lot of uncertainty going into what should be a really really strong roster and it's kind of helping swimming's leverage at least right now
06:37We could be talking in
06:39You know the middle of October and corporate solos three, you know
06:43Living up one goal and maybe all of a sudden that momentum shifts
06:46But just something the Bruins you don't want to be in right now
06:49You want to be getting ready and locked in with your whole crew and that's not the case
06:52Yeah, exactly. And and I think that you know
06:56They are a
06:5796%
06:59Finished product in terms of like they're opening that roster
07:02But the 4% that's missing is actually worth more than 4% like they built the system around having a great goaltender
07:09As we've talked about before like you bring in the best to a center available on open market
07:15You bring in the best defenseman available on the open market
07:19And that confirms that you're dug in on the team construct and the team identity and how the team is gonna look
07:26You can't go back now. It's it's kind of this is what it is, right? And
07:30You know, I thought it was interesting
07:33Yesterday after the morning skate Jim Montgomery was asked about
07:37Each coffee the kid in Philly and he's talking about how like that's how you get generational players is having
07:44Top picks and he referenced Colorado and he said look at they got McKinnon first overall
07:48They got the best defense from the world fourth overall, you know
07:51It's like that's how you build teams like that. And this is sort of what we've talked about on this podcast
07:56We're like you can't just build that kind of team on the fly
08:00You have to amass the picks and you have to suck for a while and then you have to build that kind of team
08:06they have built a team that as long as that goalie is unsigned it is
08:12incredibly incomplete and
08:14You know corpus alo again
08:17Before I believe on here, but like I don't know I don't don't think and fix him
08:22Not a guy you want to rely on though for as your workhorse, you know what I mean?
08:26So like he could be great as a supporting cast member piece, right?
08:31And it's kind of like a lock right like when you brought a lock into Boston
08:35He kind of flamed out as a starter in New York with the Islanders and then he said well
08:40We're gonna bring him in. He's gonna play 30 games. We're gonna get we're gonna get 25 great games out of him
08:45We might get five clunkers, but we're gonna get 25
08:48really good above replacement level
08:51appearances
08:52But if you had to rely on a lock to make 50
08:55Appearances that number is gonna go down a little bit
08:57You're gonna get more stinkers
08:58Look at the playoffs when they had to rely on him in the bubble
09:01Like you kind of saw like, oh, this is good. And then by then to be like, oh my god
09:05This gotta get this over with get this out of here. So
09:10So, yeah, so like but until Swayman assigned the the pitchers incomplete in an
09:17Average sense in terms of what you're missing from your roster. Yep. Swayman watch
09:22Continues on there's nothing more really to note of it. So we will thankfully pivot tie
09:27We won't keep on talking about Jeremy Swayman. There's nothing really new to talk about there
09:31before we talk about a few other top subjects with the Bruins and
09:36Can't precede and all that stuff

11:35Shout out once again to our good friends over at prize picks
11:38All right, I looking at the rest of what we've seen so far, especially maybe that game on Tuesday
11:45Against the Capitals where they had a couple of NHL errs
11:47You had this game on Thursday against the Rangers where a lot of their line of regulars were in there
11:52Whether it's fat camp
11:55Practices all that stuff who are some guys that have really kind of stood out to you so far from what you've seen
12:00Again, not too too much ice time
12:02But is there any guys that are either separating themselves or making a legitimate push maybe that we didn't really expect?
12:08Yeah, I think a guy that's kind of unheralded and in right now
12:12I would have a hard time sending him away would be Cole Koepke
12:15A player who I think just plays a pace
12:19Plays the right way you look at that goal that that he scored in the opener
12:24He provides great support ensures a battle win for the Bruins on the wall then drives right to the net
12:30I mean, that's kind of how the goals are scored now, right?
12:34You know, you got your your highlight reel one-timers
12:37But a lot of the game now is that kind of messiness, you know in front of the net around the net and so
12:43For him to do that, I think was uh, I think it's nice and he had he had a point last night as well
12:48So we have two points in two games
12:51So I kept he's a guy that you know
12:52I think it may be under the radar in terms of his ability to compete for a spot
12:57But a good fourth line kind of weapon that you could have for the Bruins right now
13:02Especially with Mac Joe Max Jones Mac Jones Max Jones being a little uncertain now. Yeah, can you imagine and stuff?
13:09I'm just gonna go play out and play hockey and stuff
13:11No, but um
13:13you know, I think that's like that's a it's a spot right now where I
13:18Look at it and I say yeah, you're a legit contender. So that'd be one for me. Yeah
13:22I think you look at like the entire fourth line grouping
13:25You've got so many intriguing options where you could make a legitimate case for a couple of these guys
13:30Like I think going into the air. I'm like, alright, it's probably gonna be some combination of you know feature
13:36Markaslik who I think has been really good
13:39He was impactful this last game was doing everything to
13:43Get noticed
13:44You got Max Jones. He's banged up right now, but you imagine he's probably one of the
13:50Favorites at least going into camp. But yeah, as you said, you got kept key
13:54You got Riley Tufte who's 6-6 you got Riley Duran who um, you know
13:58It's a guy that I was been talked talked about quite a bit and then even a guy who I don't think it's gonna make
14:03the team on October 8th, but like
14:05Trevor Quintar is the guy who's causing chaos every time he's out there and I think yeah, I mentioned this on another podcast
14:11But one thing I like about Quintar is that like it's going to his second full year Pro Hockey's 23
14:17It seems like he already is well aware of like I know what my identity needs to be. I'm going to do this
14:22I'm going to hop over the boards. I'm gonna hit someone I'm gonna talk a lot of shit
14:26I'm gonna hang around the net front. I'm gonna every single time and what do you know good things happen?
14:31So he's a guy that like, you know, even if there are these players that don't make the team on opening night
14:37You know Quintar maybe a cap key, you know, maybe it's you know, Max Jones is banged up Riley Duran
14:43Like there's a couple of guys who aren't gonna make this team
14:45But when the inevitable kind of injury bug sprouts up as the year goes on
14:50they've got a lot of really intriguing options to really fill out that fourth line because
14:54You got four or five six guys that you told me they were gonna play 60 plus games and be like
15:00I'm really curious to see what they do because I think they've got a lot of guys that kind of fit the mold of what
15:05Checking line units need to be in today's NHL and then there's a lot more potential there not to say that it you know
15:11We're expecting a 15 goal season from Beecher or Max Jones or anything like that
15:15But there's a lot of guys who I think they've brought in that I like how they play
15:18I like what they can bring over the span of a long season
15:21yeah, and you know, I'm happy you brought up Catholic because I think I think that if
15:27You're expecting him to constantly be a guy who is hitting and fighting every game
15:33You're gonna be disappointed because I know people in Ottawa wanted him to be more physical
15:38Pretty much every game like it was it was there but it wasn't consistent enough for them, right?
15:44So he has to bring value beyond that if it's there every night. It's great. I'm not expecting
15:49I'm not expecting it to be though. So what I'm saying is that you got to do something else and through two games right now
15:54He is one
15:5760% of his face-offs. He's nine. He's nine of 15
16:01So that's another reason why they brought him in here. You look back to last year
16:06They only had one righty
16:08Face-off guy who was above 50% It was Charlie Coyle
16:11So that is where Catholic is gonna come in and help provide some needed support
16:17Just another face-off option behind behind Charlie Coyle on the right side
16:21To keep him fresh to keep him from wearing down breaking down as he gets a little bit older here
16:26So that's what I love about him
16:29Another guy who's had great numbers. The dot has been John Farranache. Yeah along the lines of what you're talking about a player who?
16:36Very unlikely. He makes the roster out of the gate, but you look at him a year ago. I
16:41Think he had 38 points. I want to say in in the HL at 36 around there. Yeah
16:4821st most among HL rookies
16:51Will probably get a greater role this year in Providence
16:55And you sort of look at him like if he makes this roster
16:58Or if he fills in it's gonna be in a fourth line role
17:01And if you could win face-offs and if you can turn the tide the other way play some strong D zone have good details
17:07You know all of that
17:09You're gonna you know carve out some more minutes for yourself
17:12And so that's the guy that I think it's been a standout his time similar to Kuntar as you noted
17:17It's not now
17:18But it's coming and you can kind of see like there's something to build off of here
17:23Versus a which is always better than you know a whole collection of all these guys look all right
17:27I guess you know like so you got something here now a lot of them
17:31I think are what we've talked about in the bottom six kind of mold, but you know
17:36We'll see what happens there
17:37You know guys can guys can develop on the fly and promote their way up our upper roster as we've seen countless times now
17:44Yeah, no absolutely
17:45And I also think one guy that has probably exceeded my expectations in terms of maybe where I was comfortable starting him
17:51I would probably say it's Patra who again like this set the numbers
17:54Maybe aren't there like they were last year, which seemed like every game
17:57He was stacking up more and more you know point total stuff like that, but I was going into this year
18:03I think fully expecting him to open the year in Providence get
18:08Top line minutes top power play minutes all that kind of stuff
18:11And seeing kind of how we can build that confidence back up coming off through shoulder surgery
18:16But I think he's looked really good so far. He's kind of been what he was last year poised with the puck
18:22Smart player, you know, I think you've seen that he's put on weight and is stronger on the puck
18:26Which is an encouraging sign doesn't seem like he's tentative at all of coming off of that surgery and again
18:32We've got a ways to go before the preseason ends, but he just right now looks like an NHL
18:37Now where does he fit in the lineup that remains to be seen but I feel like I'm kind of staring more away from
18:42He looks ready for October 8th as opposed to and again
18:45There's nothing wrong with them taking the the slow and steady approach of Providence
18:49But he feels like a guy that I think he can help this team right now
18:53And it's kind of playing like it even he's not gonna be with Zaka and Pasternak and that line wasn't
18:58Dynamic, but there were a couple of promising shifts and a lot of it was him down low
19:03Winning board battles making sound plays and doing what he can to help his team
19:07So I think he's been better than maybe what I expected going into this year considering his offseason
19:11Oh 100% and and yeah, I'm with you that I
19:16Thought he would begin the year in Providence
19:19right now I I have a hard time seeing that happen and
19:25you know, that's that's good for the Bruins in the sense that it turns the pressure up on a guy like Murkulov or or
19:33Lysell, you know like
19:35but I
19:36Think his strength has been the biggest thing. I've noticed like he's stronger. He's smarter. He knows
19:42Where to cut when to cut?
19:45Plays he can make you know, like another guy too is winning faceoffs right now, which was not a certainty a year ago for him
19:52and so
19:54yeah, I I I think I'm kind of changing my tune on that now where I feel like I would be surprised if
20:01He didn't begin the year in the NHL and we're not even at the halfway point, you know, we're almost there, but we're not quite
20:09but right now like I
20:11Have a hard time sending some of these guys down which I think is exactly what you want
20:15If you're the Bruins, but like you got three or four guys that are making legit pushes right now
20:20Even Tyler Johnson like do I think he's been phenomenal?
20:23No
20:24but I think he's a
20:25Guy that can play left wing center right wing is a veteran like, you know
20:31Like he's made some plays that you're like, oh
20:33I'd like to have that as an option if I can I'd love to have that in the in the in the chamber
20:38you know as a potential bullet, so
20:41They're getting a really good camp. Like the results might not follow like last night's game was boring as shit
20:48Let's not sugarcoat it
20:50but I think
20:53Positionally and player wise you're getting a really entertaining camp in terms of battles and who's gonna go down and who's gonna stay up
21:01You got a couple guys that are saying I'm not going back down and that's that's a great problem to have
21:05I think if you're the Bruins while you try to sort through the the messiness of the Swayman stalemate
21:11yes, no, absolutely and obviously we're gonna focus a little bit more on some of the other younger players who
21:17We expect it
21:18We're going to make a push for the roster and Fabian Lysel and judging mark you up before we kind of dive into that tie

23:19Let's get back to the show. Once again, shout out to our good friends over at game time tickets. All right, Ty
23:25Looking at two guys that we were all were talking about before camp started Fabian Lysel, Georgie Murkulov
23:33prospects who have
23:34Legit middle six maybe top six potential further down the line at least going into the year
23:40Didn't show all that much especially Lysel on Sunday against the Rangers both took steps in the right direction on Tuesday
23:47Lysel gets the PowerPoint goal
23:49Murkulov sets up Justin Brazos goal at the net front
23:55But you look at their performance a step in the right direction, of course
23:59but then who is a bit Brad Marchand to I think throw a little bit of reality check of like
24:04You know pretty good isn't gonna be good enough if you want to beat out
24:09Patra or let alone a geeky or whoever else that Tyler Johnson a veteran who's on a PTO
24:15Who's desperate to keep his career going like you just can't have one solid performance
24:21To validate your spot in the lineup, especially a team like this
24:24Where are you at now in terms of either one of those guys?
24:27Maybe Lysel in terms of their odds of making the team. Is it gone down? Is it?
24:33Status quo like where are you kind of out of terms of evaluating those players? Yeah, I think
24:39personally, like I think I might have Lysel above Murkulov right now and that might sound a little bit crazy because of
24:46The production I think Murkulov has more has two points and Lysel has one
24:51But right shot right wing plays with speed
24:54Can probably sheltered a little bit more
24:57Murkulov like I think that so I loved how he finished the game
25:02Against the Capitals that assist was great. I hated his power play work
25:06I thought he made a couple of plays. He made one play. That was really impressive where he he's getting challenged
25:13By a Washington PK guy who's trying to close in on him
25:16He makes this nice spinning backhand pass to Hamperson home that leads to a shot on goal
25:20Then he's trying what I would call a HL type move
25:23Then he's trying what I would call a HL type moves where he's trying to thread it through two guys at once it gets intercepted
25:26And now you have a short-handed chance going the other way. It's not gonna work at this level, right?
25:30Like your brains got to move as fast as your body does
25:38Now with that said there was also something that Lysel did that I was like, nope that can't happen where you know
25:43He goes end to end and he gets a shot the shot
25:47Doesn't hit the net it goes wide it rims out and now you got numbers going the other way
25:51So both guys have things I got to work on
25:54I think right now I would have Lysel above Merkel off but not by much and
26:00I was admittedly surprised that neither guy played last night, and I know they played the first two games, but
26:06One of those things where it's like I would kind of give these guys
26:09Every game it that you can because you got to know you've got to have some certainty
26:14you know and a great example would be like you put Potter between Zaka and
26:19Pasternak I liked it. I thought they were good. I actually I actually did like that combo quite a bit
26:26But could you put Merc there for a game and just see like just see what that looks like just so, you know
26:33It's a potential option for you moving forward. Like that's something that I was a bit surprised
26:38we didn't see same thing with uh
26:40If the lineup has Morgan and geeky in it
26:43I kind of want to see Lysel there with him too because that could be a role for him
26:46You know playing with geeky on a third line role
26:49perhaps so a little surprise didn't get in because I but I got a I got a feeling we're gonna see them the rest of
26:55The way if not three of the remaining four games, I feel like yeah
26:59I feel like you definitely have to at one point see Lysel with Kiki if you want to have him be kind of a
27:03Guy that cuts his teeth on the third line and kind of builds a rapport that way
27:08also
27:08if you know Martian tries to get into a game if you're able to get a game with like
27:13Martian coil and Lysel just to see what it looks like like
27:16If there's any a person who is going to be very candid very upfront with how you're playing on the ice
27:22I'd love to see Lysel with a guy like Martian who is
27:26Preaches accountability has pretty much like thrown cold water multiple times in terms of like that's not gonna just be like a young guy
27:32Just because he's talented because he's skilled like he mentioned that
27:36Before camp even started about like, you know
27:38He can't dangle through three guys and be in a top six role and then on Wednesday again kind of not poor cold water
27:45But reaffirmed that like, you know
27:47Just one game isn't enough or even look at potter last year
27:50Like he had a really strong start and then he kept on stacking those games kept on stacking good practices
27:57Like that's what you have to do
27:58To try to beat out a few of these guys that like you've told me that they settle on like geeky
28:03And like a top six role. Is that the flashiest option? No, but like
28:08He can hold his own there with those guys like Frederick. We've mentioned before
28:12I think they want to keep him down the middle
28:14But like if you're trying to make them to like a shut down heavier line, and it's Martian coil Frederick
28:20They can kind of do that damage as well and be pretty effective in that role
28:23Like they have options the Bruins do in terms of yes
28:27It's exciting and fun to think about like a guy like my cell who's 21 on a dirt-cheap
28:33Contract being a productive top six guy and letting the rest of the pieces fall into place
28:37That's great
28:38Bruins would love if that happened
28:40But it's not a given and they have other options they just they don't have to like, you know
28:44Put a a square peg in a round hole if I sell it's either not ready or not showing enough
28:49to step into that spot, but I would like to see a guy like Lysell especially with
28:55Legit and you know NHLers and that's not to say that like because I know people were complaining that Sunday game where he was with
29:02Was he with Kepke and Farinacci and people like well, you got to put him with better players
29:05I wouldn't use it as an excuse like I want to see Lysell with a coil in Martian
29:10But also it falls on the player to elevate as well because I thought was the worst player on that grouping and that Sunday game
29:16like yeah, Farinacci was great at the dot and
29:19Kolkata he scored a goal like they stepped up for what they are and they're not
29:23Probably knocking on the door at the same rate that a guy like Lysell is so I think you know
29:28it falls on the player himself, obviously, but I do want to see what a guy like Lysell can do with these guys because
29:35I'm not saying this is like a
29:38Excuse or like a worst-case scenario, but it also feels like if if this isn't the time where you're gonna get an extended run
29:43I feel like you run the risk of if it's like, you know
29:46You give him one or two more games and you send under Providence
29:50Are you gonna go back to that? Well again in November, right?
29:54Like right that that is I think one of the risks you have and again falls on the player to fight through that
29:59But I'd rather you find out now what exactly you have. I'd rather you him play
30:03Three or all four of these next preseason games and see what you have before you make that decision
30:08Yeah, and the other part of it too is like why I may have Lysell over Merkel off right now was just the position
30:15Right wing. I mean behind Pasternak. What do they have right now?
30:19It's kind of a whole lot of unknown like yeah, you like Justin Brazzo, you know, Morgan geeky can play there
30:25but if you want to put
30:27Trent Frederick in the middle or if you want to put Matt Potter in the middle
30:32okay, well that's one less right wing option you have right and so I
30:36Think this team has a tremendous
30:39wealth of left shot wings
30:41right and that might work get work against a guy like Merkel of right now like right when when your bottom six has Johnny Beecher and
30:48Max Jones and you have Cole Kepke making things interesting you have
30:54Trevor Kuntar as well who I believe is a lefty. Sorry. Sorry if I'm not I'm not 100% on that
30:59But you have those guys down there it's like, okay, well that there's more bodies now competing for
31:04Opportunity whereas like right shot right wing that's been a need for God knows how long with this team now
31:10It feels like so
31:11You look at last year like they had they had JBR and Jake's brusque and intent and high and all playing right wing
31:16Those are all left shots doing that
31:18So there's such a positional need for this right that that's why I would put him above a guy like Merkel off right now
31:25Despite the results and despite Merkel off
31:27Looking like a better player in practice. It's just like what does the team need more than anything else?
31:33And and I think that's kind of why it's such an interesting scale and it's such an interesting
31:38Battle to watch here as camp continues to unfold. It's why Tyler Johnson was brought in
31:42I mean, he's a he's a right shooting guy who can play the wing and had 17 goals a year ago mainly in the power play
31:48Yeah, but he's a right shot right wing. They don't have a lot of those guys
31:53Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean for right now, where do you stand on?
31:56Do you think what do you what do you give the odds right now as again?
32:00We are not even maybe at the halfway point
32:02You got four preseason games to go where your odds of lifestyle making the making the roster at this point, you know
32:07I like I I try to put you on the spot. No, no, no, but but after all of this I still feel like
32:1440% like I'm not like oh, it's a slam-dunk. It's I just don't know because
32:18You know if the performance that he had on Tuesday
32:22Where he scores a goal or he draws a penalty and scores a goal and by the end of the game
32:26He's under their skin the capital skin that is, you know, like by by playing with speed and playing with pace
32:31I love his odds, but if he reverts back to what he was on Sunday
32:35Which has kind of been the mo like you can't you don't get consistent
32:39Performances out of him then that bumps down so he needs another game
32:43I think he needs a game or he has you know
32:46Two goals or he has a goal in the cyst like he needs a multi-point night to bump that figure over 50%
32:52Because they could say to him
32:53Okay, well you're still not in a finished product because that's what they that's what they stress
32:57that's what they emphasize whether we like it or not, that's what they that's what they stress and
33:02They can say you're too up and down like you got it gotta find that level man
33:06Like you got to be consistent. So until that's proven. Otherwise like that keeps him below 50% in my opinion. How about you?
33:13Yeah, I'm going at 35 right now and I think it all I think that can swing
33:18Quite a bit based on how he does in this next game because again as you said there is an mo
33:23There is a reputation in terms of the off and on production
33:27He's 21 like he still has room for growth
33:30But I think what that growth has to be at this camp with what's at stake and the minutes available
33:36His growth needs to be stepping in and building off of that performance. We haven't really seen that yet from him
33:42It's something that is tough to do like that's why it was so
33:46Shocking when Patra who everyone thought was gonna be playing the OHL had a good game when you know
33:52Let off all of our headlines probably that first game where he scored the goal. We go. Oh sure. It looks pretty good
33:57Oh, he's scoring two more the next game. Oh, wow. He look holy you need that progression for my guy that
34:03you saw last year in Patra and I still has all the talents do it like again, you even saw like
34:10After he scored that power play goal like the car. Yeah, I feel like he's a guy that's very
34:15Reliant on the confidence part of his game. You saw how much I think freed up he was after it
34:19So, you know
34:20It's one thing to score a goal and then feel good about your game and have rolling the rest of the way and be active
34:25Bring the puck down low
34:27Beat guys to lose pucks like doing the things that yes
34:30He's not a heat-seeking missile on the floor check at his frame
34:33But can use that speed beyond just trying to dangle through guys. You saw that
34:38as Tuesday's game went along but
34:41How do you carry that momentum not just from the rest of the game
34:44How do you carry it a few days down the road like that?
34:47That is what you have to do to be an impact player at least somewhat consistent
34:52consistently at the NHL ranks
34:54So I have 35 right now
34:56But if he scores another goal in the next game and he keeps on stacking these performances
35:00That can change in a hurry because the Bruins have options
35:02but again, I think the best-case scenario is a guy like myself taking that spot because there's a lot to like about
35:09The ceiling of that player if he proves over these next, you know
35:13week to ten days that he has the metal and the ceiling to be a guy that
35:18Maybe not this year, but down the road can give you 2025 goals
35:21Give you that speed that teams covet now, especially up front
35:24Like this isn't a guy that I think if you're the Bruins as you said earlier on you do your due diligence and give him
35:30304 these preseason games because now's the time to find out what you have in the guy
35:33You know what you have probably in
35:36Morgan Geeky, even if you maybe carve out in the expectation for a little bit more of a scoring output
35:41You kind of know what you have in Tyler Johnson
35:43you don't know what you have in Fabian Lysel and that could be a good thing or
35:46Bad thing depending on what kind of plays out, but let's find out right? I think that's the most important thing
35:52yeah, and the other part of it too is like, you know, I
35:56You know harken back to May when?
36:00Don Sweeney is talking about we got to get faster
36:03Okay, well he's probably you know, then you let to brusque walk and you trade Jacob Loco
36:08You lose a lot of speed and now you bring in Lysel. Like that's a fast guy
36:11And so I think you have to utilize that correctly
36:15And you saw that he you know, he draws a penalty. It's a trip
36:18It was kind of a I think it was kind of a crap penalty, you know
36:22It's a call in that moment, but he draws a penalty
36:25This team's gonna need to draw penalties a year ago after losing Loco. So if he can address some of that speed
36:31Drawing penalties and add the scoring. It's like you gotta have this guy on here, you know
36:37Yeah, no, absolutely. So we'll see how Lysel and a few other younger guys can kind of build their game moving forward
36:43Again for more preseason games to go
36:45We're not quite at the finish line yet for the start of the regular season
