Evan Marinofsky and Conor Ryan are back with another episode of Bruins Beat! In this edition, the guys discuss Brad Marchand describing what he wants in a right-wing, and whether that could be found in Fabian Lysell. They also discuss his contract talks, and speculate whether it was about Jeremy Swayman as he continues his negotiations.

00:33off your first purchase terms apply I'm Evan Maranofsky that is Connor Ryan
00:38Connor what's up Evan I'm doing well how you doing doing great doing great I had
00:45an epiphany today and I think it's you know with the Red Sox being 70 and 70 at
00:50the time of recording they have plummeted in the past couple days weeks
00:54pretty much all of August the Patriots are starting up soon and boy does that
01:00roster look terrible I got a glimmer of hope at captain's practice this week of
01:05oh a good team now obviously the Celtics exist and they're on their way but
01:10they're not quite back yet they're still enjoying the fruits of their win back in
01:14June but just seeing a winning team a team that should win we'll see what
01:20happens but a team that at least there's hope you know at least there's like a
01:24reason for fans to watch this fall it just brought me a little hope that hey
01:31you know what you and I we're on the good side of it so I'm happy about that
01:35yeah it's better than watching I think I says for I don't think anything more
01:40frustrating more demoralizing than bad football like maybe like bad I think it
01:46says like bad pitching bad bullpen when you got a guy that like walks five guys
01:50in a row like that that will drive you crazy but I think like especially bad
01:54offense for football is the worst there's nothing fun about it it's a
01:59Sunday you should be relaxed you just get stressed out the the delivery guy
02:04gives you the wrong order forgets like the garlic bread and forgets like the
02:07the cheesy bread from Domino's ruins everything the vibes are all are all off
02:12yeah the fact that I think we at least will have the Bruins obviously the
02:17Celtics will be really good as well but as we traverse through especially once
02:20you get to like the worst part of the year right you get past Christmas and
02:24it's like January through March and it's just the the doldrums on the calendar
02:28these will have two good teams to keep tabs on the Red Sox and Patriots I don't
02:34know I mean Red Sox are pretty much there they're done yeah yeah no way it's
02:40funny you mentioned stuff cheesy bread I just want to give a shout out a shout
02:43out to a Puppa Geno's I go to Foxboro a lot because Fox for Sports Center's
02:49they have a lot of hockey that I have to watch and then Puppa Geno's they have
02:52two Puppa Geno's in Foxboro one is right near the rink so I will go there
02:57oftentimes before or after I leave and I got a chicken broccoli Alfredo like a
03:03couple weeks ago from there yeah interesting choice but I wanted
03:07something to cob up that's fine that's fine yeah it's a lot of carbs they gave
03:11me a ton of extra stuff cheesy bread so I was like hell yes what a move but then
03:17driving an hour home that was um yeah that was but you know what it tasted
03:22great so that's really that's all that matters I used to always like one do
03:26they still have the the cowboy to cut out of Teddy Brewski there I went to one
03:30recently and they still had it there's a little janky in there wasn't all that
03:35great so I remember the back in the day though you know it was a good spot for a
03:41birthday party was Papa Geno's I know why you had your own spot you had your
03:45own little like nook you'd have your own corner right there and they let you put
03:49the pizza in the oven which I'm sure in the year of our little 2024 they do not
03:53let little children behind the counter and throw pizza into the stove just
03:58coughing on everything I think that's the case anymore hands but back in the
04:02day it was a blast Evan yeah that's I agree with you that's uh I agree Biden's
04:09America you put all like the cheese and pepperoni on which if you're like six
04:16years old you're doing a shitty job you're trying to make like a smiley face
04:19it looks yeah looking afterwards it's terrible yeah awful awful I'm just
04:26saying that right now if you gave me the opportunity I would nail it but I don't
04:31think a little 31 year old man behind the counter to throw pizza into the
04:34stove I think I haven't asked I haven't asked like maybe they will but I don't
04:39want to cause a ruckus it's one of those things like it's so much pressure in
04:43that like I was watching a tick tock the other day of this guy because now it's
04:47popular on tick tock people making food and watching it and I enjoy it and he
04:51just the stroke that goes into the oven it's like holy crap like I can't I can't
04:58do that like I'd be like hell no no upside down yeah I'd face like oh shit
05:07shit shit like leave it to the experts yeah leave it to them anyways we could
05:13do we could have a weekly pub a genos podcast one can bread Martian made some
05:19interesting comments at captain's practice after day one day two was on
05:24Thursday Elias Lindholm spoke Jonas Corpus Allo spoke Marcus Delic spoke
05:30coolest part was Corpus Allo had a Springsteen shirt on which Scott
05:34McLaughlin was enthralled by so that was the first Scott McLaughlin's column
05:39being like we don't they don't need Jeremy Soyman he loves Springsteen and
05:45he said his favorite song I heard him say was like born in the USA so good for
05:48him that Springsteen's the classic yet can't hate Springsteen but Brad Marchant
05:53spoke any any I thought he touched on a lot of interesting things we'll get to
05:57sort of his con his contractual comments in a bit but what stuck out to me and we
06:02mentioned this a little bit on poke the bear want to dive into it here was sort
06:08of his comments he made on who he wants to be the second line right wing with
06:12him because he acknowledged that he's gonna be with Charlie Coyle most likely
06:15at least to begin the year and you know someone asked him hey what do you want
06:19on the right side obviously he's not gonna come out and be like I want Morgan
06:23Geeky or I want Fabian Lysel he's not gonna do that but he did give some
06:27insight into what they're looking for and the big things are you know we don't
06:32care if you can dangle through three people we want someone who plays
06:35responsibly we want someone who plays both ends of the ice we're gonna be a
06:38shutdown line so we need someone that embraces that and that's not you know
06:44just on paper that's not quite Fabian Lysel that's more so someone like a
06:48Morgan Geeky or a Trent Frederick now again training camp has yet to even
06:53happen so a lot is going to change a lot can change Fabian Lysel certainly can
06:59change that narrative and I assume we'll you know make every effort to do so but
07:05are things kind of stacked against him in this case not even so much from the
07:08coaching staff but from Brad Marchand yeah I mean it's definitely probably an
07:13uphill climb right because and again like I think that could be also one of
07:17Marchand reinforcing just some of these younger guys when you have a guy like
07:21him you have a guy like Mark Ulof these younger players that you know I think
07:26it's been talked about quite a bit this summer that they should be able to step
07:29in and an opportunity should be there for them it's also I think reinforcing
07:33that even if you know a guy like Lysel with his skill set is really intriguing
07:37and and really a dynamic player you know he can't just go in and be this kind of
07:44empty calorie or one-dimensional player and expect to stick up there now does
07:49that mean like if Lysel you know makes one defensive miscue in the first
07:55preseason game like Marchand is gonna kick the door into Jim Montgomery's
07:58office and be like I want this guy off the off the team no I don't know and if
08:03that is that's not great because the Bruins need to let these guys develop
08:06and when you have a guy that has this upside in Lysel and again it's not to
08:11say he's a lock to be a 25 goal scorer right but like when you have a guy who
08:17has this skill set I think some of what it takes to let these guys develop is to
08:22give them a little bit of leeway you know maybe he's not you know a
08:26prototypical Bruin right like in terms of what you're looking for in terms of
08:31the skill set the physicality the two-way play all that stuff maybe he's
08:35kind of cut from a different cloth but I think if he has a unique skill set in
08:41something that can help this team out you roll with you roll with a guy like
08:44that like this is probably a bad comparison I'm comparing two guys who
08:49you know are legends for the Bruins but like you look at like Rick Middleton for
08:53years like wasn't a prototypical Bruin in terms of the way he played right like
08:57people look it was like he's more of a Montreal kind of you know very skilled
09:02player with Bruins fans not take Rick Middleton David Critchie wasn't
09:06necessarily a prototypical Bruin in terms of his far from it right you know
09:10so and again that's not to say that Lysel is you're gonna trade him for you
09:15know pennies on the dollar he's gonna be a 70-point guy somewhere else but just
09:18because maybe his his strengths don't fit the mold as to what the Bruins are
09:23maybe looking for doesn't mean they should shun them or not give him an
09:25opportunity to grow because you know some of it comes down to again Lysel in
09:30his own game right he's got to go out there and produce and prove guys like
09:33Marcia and wrong right in terms of like hey I maybe not I won't be winning a
09:37selkie the next couple years but yeah watch me dangle through these three
09:40guys and let me set up this tapping goal for you right like that at the end of
09:45the day is what kind of can change that rationale there so I don't view it as
09:49like a shot across the bow from Martian or gatekeeping that spot right if Lysel
09:54offers the highest ceiling there I think you roll with them and let him develop
09:58along the way but I think it's probably just a reminder that you know as
10:03intriguing and exciting as a guy like Lysel should be and he should be
10:06knocking at the door and they should give him an opportunity it's not gonna
10:10just gonna be handed to him I think the Bruins know that I think we all know
10:13that going into it but having the captain of the team kind of reinforce
10:16that I think just as another way to show that you know it's not gonna be if Lysel
10:20has one assist over five preseason games and he's floating down the other end of
10:26the ice it's not gonna work for you you gotta show that you know to make most
10:30of the opportunity handed to you and take that job because again he's the
10:34most exciting player but the Bruins have a whole lot of contingency plans in
10:37place behind him if it doesn't work out or he doesn't impress enough in the next
10:40couple of months that's the thing and I think with a guy like Lysel and any
10:45young player you have to understand they're gonna be mistakes and you know
10:48sometimes big mistakes I mean you even look at Matt Potra last year you know
10:52and I know we'll talk a lot about him throughout training camp but like he's
10:56someone who plays you know Bruins kind of style and that he's a two-way forward
11:00I mean it's not like you know some brute physical force but two-way forward who
11:04can you know chip in offensively quite a bit there were games when you'd be like
11:08oh I totally didn't even realize he played and now granted he's 19 or he was
11:1219 so it's a little bit different but he's still a young player and I think
11:16with Lysel like you know if he I think in a 20 game sample size there are gonna
11:21be some great offensive plays that you're like holy crap and then they're
11:25gonna be some defensive miscues where you're like how did that how did that
11:28happen how do you do that and I think that comes with developing in the NHL
11:33and any coach needs to allow any young player to make those mistakes and it
11:40just comes down to is it worth it to leave that player out there to make
11:43those mistakes and oftentimes it is because you know with Lysel a guy like
11:46Lysel ceiling you hope that he hits that the question is you know obviously Brad
11:52Martian has no problem playing with a younger player but at the same time in a
11:57contract year when offense matters and you're looking to win and you know you
12:02want competent line mates or at least reliable line mates is he gonna be open
12:09to someone like a Fabian Lysel if there are going to be those defensive issues
12:13are the Bruins gonna be open to that like that's where I kind of wonder and
12:18again if Lysel has a kick-ass training camp there's no question like he has to
12:22be right and I think it's gonna you know settle a lot of questions but I just
12:27think going into it I do wonder the openness of playing with a rookie with
12:32those you know positives and negatives I think that's a valid question to ask
12:37yeah no absolutely I mean it is just something where it's not like the 2017-18
12:42team right where that team was kind of in the tail end of like a legitimate I
12:47guess rebuild retool everyone to put it like there was runway there for that
12:52team that was just trying to build something back up to be like yeah we can
12:56roll it in just Bjork and Jake DeBrusque and all these guys and it was
12:59exciting but you could see where they were at that point in terms of that you
13:03know overhaul of the roster that a lot more digestible to or a lot easier to
13:08map out why they would do that now where this team you know is viewed as you know
13:12a contender or team that's in the very least in the mix you can see why there
13:16probably is maybe more that hesitancy of putting Gallagher Lysel in such a
13:20critical role but again you kind of look at the hand that's dealt to the Bruins
13:24yes they do have Frederick who could be in that spot and probably projects as a
13:28steady two-way player you know Frederick's a guy that has kind of been
13:33underrated the last couple years in terms of his defensive game and doing
13:37some of the little things that help out his line quite a bit but like for Lysel
13:42like the skill is there and it's like even if maybe you have to deal with one
13:45of those games where yeah you're ripping your hair out looking at the tape the
13:49next day or you know he's doing something that leaves a lot to be
13:52desired like some of that also comes with just the growing pains of operating
13:57the NHL and if the if you have a game or two like that and I know like the Bruins
14:02are in this kind of win now formula but if those you know one or two games of
14:07frustration lead to a guy like Lysel becoming a 20 goal 45 50 point guy down
14:12the road or a guy that can flourish into something even greater than that I think
14:18the long term out long term goal there is well worth it for a guy that is still
14:22young he's only 21 he's cost-controlled he's a really cheap asset that has more
14:27room to grow and he's such a unique player in a system and a team that
14:31doesn't have many guys that can kind of do what he can do when he's on his game
14:34so I get I get weighing those two you know mentalities in terms of March and
14:40and the urgency of winning now but sooner or later like again if you want
14:44to keep the same win now formula the Bruins would keep on trading first round
14:47picks it's just not tenable there needs to be some at you know at this stage of
14:52you know patience and letting some of these young guys flourish and again if
14:55he doesn't work out I'd rather the Bruins go through the growing pains and
14:59maybe you know put Lysel in the spot that maybe he's not ready for and you
15:03find out in the end of November when he's got two goals and four assists in
15:0822 games and he's not doing much the other end of the ice then you know
15:12that's not gonna sink you that's not gonna sink this season it's not
15:16like it's like holy crap we're done now like he is baby Lysel has ruined the
15:21Bruins that's a great that'd be a great headline for someone who actually ruins
15:26the Bruins but I also think like boys you know I'm spitting bars over here by
15:34the way that creaky line that was with was the beginning of 1718 was that Bjork
15:39and DeBrusque on his left and right if memory serves no Bjork is with Martian
15:43and oh you know he must have an imposter not yeah I I don't know actually
15:48it was against the Predators right yeah that was that game and DeBrusque had his
15:52first maybe it was maybe it was Bjork I'm not cuz I think it was still no no
15:58you know what I think it was it Bjork Martian and Bergeron and then you had
16:04DeBrusque creaky Pasternak something like that I forget but like I think all
16:11those guys the air listen it didn't it enters Bjork top line top six forward
16:17didn't work out so unfortunate a little a little hazy DeBrusque started with
16:21crazy we all know that so yes and stayed there by the way one last thought on my
16:25cell I also think like if he plays to what he's capable of offensively that
16:32helps you win now like that's the biggest and if he hits his stride not
16:37until February or something like that helps you there too so again but it's up
16:41to him it's up to him take that spot just like it's up to you to go check out

18:44you know Martian mentioned Coyle you know playing with Coyle again that puts
18:49him on the second line so we would assume that at least going into camp
18:52that first line will be Zaka Lindholm and Pasternak that was something we
18:57talked about when they signed Lindholm but again I think that's a fairly good
19:02first line I mean you think about Pavel Zaka we you know I think now it's pretty
19:06obvious that he's gonna be moved to the wing I think that's fine works with
19:11Pasternak well and I think that two-way presence down the middle works to me
19:14like I I think that line probably stays together and at least succeeds the only
19:19way I think that line breaks up is if that second line isn't producing and
19:22they try to move Martian up or you know try to jungle the lines but I like the
19:27look on paper of that first line yeah I mean I think you look at David
19:32Pasternak put him with anyone put him with us and probably a pretty good line
19:36Who would play the middle I don't know I think he'd have to play the middle
19:39just let him take the puck and go yeah exactly I'll just stand in the corner do
19:42nothing but no I think having a guy that dynamic that can drive play with just
19:48about anyone is obviously a huge help but as we kind of say and we look at
19:52these different groupings and players and it's all about kind of mapping out
19:56how they can take steps forward like Elias Lindholm yes he had a down season
20:00last year but he's a guy that has the resume has the track record it's not
20:05like he's the guy that you're banking on like maybe this is the year he hit 60
20:08points like now he's done a couple times he's had three 60-point seasons obviously
20:13I think you're asking a lot for him to be the 42 82 42 goal guy that he was a
20:19few years back with Calgary I don't think that being the case but I think a
20:22full year next to David Pasternak full year next to Pavel Zakha who I think
20:28benefits from being on the wing where you can kind of play a more simplified
20:31game hopefully a more shot ready kind of mentality because every time the guy
20:35fires off a shot it's usually like a absolute howitzer like it's flying
20:40flying past guys like he really needs to tap more into that and there's more room
20:45to grow there as well in terms of maybe just you know putting the blinders on a
20:48little bit more for his game and having him play a more simple game but I think
20:53there's a lot to like about what you can have there went home especially even like
20:57you look at where he was last year with Vancouver right like was on the third
21:02line as a center there he wasn't gonna necessarily bump out Pedersen or JT
21:06Miller and also like even like top power play minutes like him being on the
21:11bumpest spot there on the top you know for the Bruins should help them out
21:15quite a bit so I just think you look at all three of those guys you don't have to
21:18worry about Pasternak he's gonna get his points he's gonna drive play but I think
21:22those two guys especially should fit well with him and there's I think more
21:27room to grow there both for Zaka in his role but also I think it's not out of
21:32the question to expect really like a 60-point season from Lindholm in his
21:36first year here I this is the thing with Lindholm like I keep looking at that
21:40line and we've talked about this in predictions episodes but like you look
21:43at that situation right Pasternak on your right Zaka on your left top power
21:48play minutes playing a lot like first and it's expect like 70 points out of
21:56that I don't know what like and I know it to me with the scene I know you
21:58project I think you predicted like you and I predicted the exact same or like
22:02one off like 71 and some like that or something there I've seen people who are
22:07down on Lindholm obviously and think that this might not work definitely
22:11long-term but like the situation is conducive to him producing like I think
22:17that I think every door is he's gonna have every opportunity to put up a lot
22:21of points and again if he doesn't that's on him but I just you know the
22:26situation itself lends me to believe that he's gonna have a really good year
22:29and I know that looks that makes me sound like I have my black and gold
22:32glasses on but it's true I mean that's a that's a good first line you're with one
22:39of the best right wingers in hockey and on the left side you have a guy who has
22:42a great connection with one of the best right wingers in hockey so like I just
22:47you know argue with best right winger in hockey so like I just I don't see you
22:52know him having a down year Lindholm I'm talking about like I just I don't see it
22:56I know that last year wasn't wasn't great and then the third line thing in
23:00Vancouver always surprised me and then that the idea that they would keep him

24:56it's game time now back to the show so one of the interesting things Marcian
25:01said the other day was sort of about his contract said quote I'm gonna say this
25:05now and kind of leave it at that I won't ever talk about contract stuff in the
25:09media I saw a report the other day I think it was the hockey news I don't
25:12know where he's getting his information it wasn't from our side we're not gonna
25:15talk about it whatever goes on will stay internal between Don Sweeney and our
25:18group I'll leave it at that I think there's enough respect between the two
25:21sides that we can deal with it and I have your boston.com story open right
25:25now Connor so you're welcome for the page view but it's so some have wondered
25:31and hags and I talked about this yesterday on pucks with hags was that a
25:35kind of you know subtle message to Jeremy Swayman of respectfully stop
25:43talking about contractual things in the media and I said to hags I said well you
25:47know I don't know if that's really like Martians leadership style would wouldn't
25:50you know you just kind of talk about this amongst yourselves would you really
25:54do it publicly if you're against you know if you're against talking contract
26:00stuff in the media wouldn't you also be against kind of talking about someone
26:04talking about contractual stuff in the media and hags been interesting point
26:07saying you know that's not you know some things don't talk about one-on-one you
26:12know the awkward if I went up to you in the press box and said so what do you
26:16make why do you make what you make but obviously their stuff's public but I you
26:25know and he made that point and I think it's interesting I like that I like
26:29talking about the theory that maybe Martian was kind of saying you as a
26:33leader hey we don't talk about that stuff publicly but also I think Martian
26:40also seemed kind of peeved by this hockey news story so you have that too
26:44where it's like he mentions that I think he's agitated about that I think he's
26:50mad at that so I mean do I think he probably disagrees with how Swayman is
26:55handling this probable I mean given Martians comments that is not how
26:59Swayman's handled this but do I think Swayman was in his mind as he was saying
27:03it probably not I don't think yeah I as much as everyone I think views
27:10especially in sports the drama things everyone thinks at all every and I love
27:14we love drama we love oh yeah we love a little fire I like it but the fact
27:19everyone thinks everyone is geared up in these press conferences to drop a
27:22succession ass quote or some Aaron Sorkin ass writing it's like no like I
27:28do think it's more of it has to do with him being pissed off about that hockey
27:31news article which I don't know where the fuck that came from right look I
27:35feel like all those in the media were like with a 50 cent we're all like we
27:38don't write this story wait wait wait a goddamn minute so I don't know where the
27:43hell that came from in terms of like poor Joe poor Joe Porellis yes into the
27:49show that's what he gets that's what that's what that's what your company
28:00gets a rough way to start practice just getting punched in the face but no I
28:05think it had more to do with that I'm I don't Joe didn't write the story by the
28:09way yeah but yes Joe did not write the story they had like a Zordon AI person
28:16I can write it or something else like that who the fuck knows but no but I do
28:21think when you look at at Marsha and they get more to do with being peeved
28:24about that of his own contract negotiation I'm sure I guess you said
28:28like it's not really how he does things in terms of me being as open with
28:33contracts and those kind of things as Swainman's done but thinking that it's
28:37all this concoct you know concoction of thinking this is all premeditated of I'm
28:42gonna throw a dagger at my franchise goal whose only reason we played into
28:45May last year I don't think I think people are reading a little bit too much
28:49into that to be honest I think in Marcia's were being peeved about
28:52whatever that hockey news report was and kind of shutting it down and Martians
28:56always been good at that in terms of like setting the parameters early on
29:00about stuff that he doesn't doesn't want to talk about being kind of transparent
29:04with that of his approach to it and all that so I do it more of what we've seen
29:08from him and how he's addressed those things for years now as opposed to him
29:12weaving in a dig at Swainman in the middle of his first press conference of
29:16the year yeah I also would like I my guess is that Swainman probably never
29:23addresses this contract situation again until after he's signed yeah he'll talk
29:29about oh happy to be here and my guess is his message will be I'm over this I
29:32want to talk about the season and move into that and I think we probably won't
29:36hear much from him directly on how he's feeling about this I think that's all
29:41out there as he made extremely clear and there's been some reporting over the
29:47last couple days that is new I see Ryan Whitney from spit and chiclets saying
29:52that he's hearing the Bruins offered Swainman four years times 6.2 million
29:56per but then you had sort of a little bit of a conflicting report from Cam
30:01Robinson over at elite prospects saying word around the campfire is that Boston
30:06and Jeremy Swainman are a lot closer to an agreement than recently reported
30:11and I guess and maybe it's not conflicting because you know then it
30:15could be around the same number Whitney did mention though that the Bruins have
30:18not talked with Swainman in I think weeks he said so interesting stuff if it
30:26is four years times 6.25 as what they're offering I mean that's much lower than
30:32we thought like I mean I've had eight times eight the entire time I mean that
30:38would be a bargain I think for the Bruins do I see Swainman accepting that
30:42I would be shocked given that we're at this point I would think that number
30:46would at least the the AAV would have to be much higher yeah no I would be and
30:51again like you're hearing more and more of it maybe not being necessarily like
30:54an eight-year deal which it seems like if that's from the Bruins camp and we
30:58can argue I think he's gonna sign for more than six to five and again like
31:02there's only so much a guy can do as an RFA but it does seem rather low for a
31:07guy that really did have a good postseason but you keep on hearing all
31:10these reports that it's not eight years that it's four or five years and kind of
31:14a longer bridge deal if you want to call four or five years a bridge deal you do
31:19wonder if there is like trepidation or just still intrigue from the Bruins as
31:23to what this guy is in terms is he really a guy that should be getting an
31:28eight by eight contract so I don't know what's your take on where you think it
31:33should be right now I mean I I mean he got lit up in the shootout today
31:36captain's practice so I mean you know I think two million a year might might
31:43kind of make it work no I mean in all seriousness like I think there's you
31:48know is there trepidation on their end there could be in terms of do we really
31:51just want to hand this guy eight years eight million that's you know a lot of
31:55money you're hoping it works but as we've talked about and we talked about
31:59this when the when Swayman's comments first came out where we were like you
32:03know he hasn't played all that much so like you don't have a ton to go off of
32:08the signs are great the signs are awesome but you know it's not like
32:13there's all this proven stuff and I think you know Swayman's looking for
32:17good money that's gonna age well that you know he's not gonna get screwed when
32:22the cap goes over a hundred mil and he's making you know way less than market
32:27value and he's one of the best goalies in the league I think that's his
32:30perspective I think that's also why he's probably if I had to assume this is not
32:34inside information but he's probably okay with four years where it's like you
32:39know give me these four years I'll prove that I'm worth you know let's just say
32:42it's four years times like 7.2 let's say they move it up a million and then when
32:48the four years are up I'll prove it and then I'll prove myself you know ready
32:52for a lot more money and sort of more accurate to the market I I do think
32:56though like Swayman I get being mindful of the market but at this point in his
33:02career with what he's done so far and like Scott McLaughlin I were talking
33:06about this is he the goalie to set the market no he's not yeah like he could be
33:12years from now he could be in a couple years you do a four or five year we do a
33:16four and five year deal then maybe he is when he's got another Vezna or something
33:20on his resume right or a Vezna yeah I mean that's yeah that's the thing and so
33:24like I like again I think his highest he finished like seventh in Vezna voting
33:28this year yes I had two nice playoff series like and I'm not trying to
33:32diminish it but at the biggest thing is just like is that gonna be the goalie to
33:36set the market is that gonna be the goalie and I you know to get 10 million
33:40no it isn't and it won't be I don't think so I mean you know I like 8 times
33:478 I still like that because I like what he's you know what he's given you I get
33:51the Bruins not wanting to do that but you know four years I don't love it in
33:58the sense that you know you're gonna be doing this again in three years but I
34:03think both sides probably be okay with it because it's not super long term for
34:08the Bruins where if this doesn't work out it's like oh shit we're tied down
34:11for eight years now to this guy and if you're swaying minutes all right well I
34:15can prove myself again with good money and you know set the market in four to
34:20five years yeah exactly like you are operating a little bit of risk however
34:25you want to spin it if it is a four-year deal right for the Bruins like he could
34:29go out his first year and have a 926 a percentage and win the Vesna and lead
34:34you to the conference finals or a cup and you're like well shit or maybe he
34:39regresses a little bit and it's not good news for the Bruins but maybe that adds
34:43reassurance to them as so they want to see how this plays out a little bit more
34:47again I'm with you I would rather sign him long-term and lock him in before the
34:51cap gets really silly like you look at you know it's apples and comparing
34:55apples and bowling balls in terms of like the NBA and everything but that's a
35:00phil leotardo line from the Sopranos I knew him I didn't know that actually and
35:05I'll admit I didn't know it I'm not gonna laugh he did 20 years in the can
35:10also is what phil leotardo did but anyway I digress but no you look at like
35:16the NBA and like they have like guys making you know four years 40 million
35:22and all sudden jumped out and it's like the eighth best guy on your team has
35:25signed a four-year deal for like 91 million dollars crazy not to say that
35:31the the NHL is gonna hit what the NBA did in terms of just that cap exploding
35:35but I'd rather you get in and sign these guys that are your franchise pillars to
35:41long-term deals now as opposed to when things get really crazy in a couple years
35:45so that's my stance but you can see both sides of it if it is like a four or
35:50five year deal I'd be fascinating to see like how much Swainman talks about
35:54whether he wanted long-term whether it's maybe something he's fine banking on
35:58himself will we get the answer who knows but I'd be really curious to see where
36:03kind of the line of thinking is from either the Bruins or Swainman as to how
36:06they hit that point in terms of terms I feel like going into this we're all
36:10talking about the value and the payout not really the term we're all expected
36:14seven eight years but maybe that's not the case my biggest thing is sort of
36:18what you said of like you know the eight years you're I think like giving him
36:24any term that's longer than two years that's over six and a half seven million
36:29dollars is a bet that's you're taking a gamble if you're the Bruins but I also
36:34think it's a it's a somewhat of a smart gamble this is a guy that you developed
36:39your fingerprints are you've created this you've created him he's shown the
36:45sense being up here he's shown you really nothing but good so like again
36:49it's a safe gamble to me I think he's gonna continue to trend up so if you
36:54sign him to a four three three or four year deal he's gonna command a lot more
36:59money down the road whereas it would just be nice if you had him for eight
37:03years at a certain amount that maybe looked a little expensive for the next
37:07two years but got better and then look cheap by the end I get why he wouldn't
37:12want that I get why he would just want to be I want to always make market value
37:15we're pro players get in the bag but from the Bruins perspective I always
37:20thought that's kind of what they would have wanted where it's like you know
37:23what we traded Lena Solmark we're putting all our chips in the middle of
37:26the table for this guy whereas if this is true four years times six point two
37:31five it's sort of like we're gonna put some of our chips in we're gonna keep
37:34some of them now we're not gonna throw everything and we're gonna see what we
37:37got on this next hand and I get from there I mean my I imagine from their
37:42perspective it's like look Jeremy we've we traded Lena Solmark you're the main
37:47guy we're gonna give you a big pay bump you're making more than Lena Solmark
37:50was gonna make for us this year you're making more than five point two five
37:54we're gonna give you six point two five for four years so you have you know some
37:58sort of long-term stability you're still a young guy so I I get that end of it
38:03but again I think the money is gonna end up being more the term it feels like
38:07now I'm gonna be shorter than eight years so I think that's where but I
38:10think the money that's gonna end up being higher you think we hear about
38:15this soon I hope so be nice it'll be Friday at 6 p.m.
