00:00In Venezuela, over 95 countries take part in the first World Congress against fascism
00:15and neo-fascism.
00:16More than 300 delegates debate strategies of struggle against fascist right-wing in
00:21the world.
00:24In Mexico, the Senate approved on Wednesday the judicial reform promoted by President
00:28Resmán and López Obrador after sabotage attempts sponsored by right-wing groups.
00:35And in the United States, the presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris
00:38participate in the first presidential debate ahead of the elections on November 5th.
00:48Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Telestudio Studios in Havana,
00:52Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:54In Venezuela, over 95 countries take part in the first World Congress against fascism
00:59and neo-fascism.
01:00The two-day event began on Tuesday with the presence of more than 300 intellectuals, writers,
01:06communicators and leaders of the anti-fascist world.
01:09Participants debate strategies of struggle and progress against the unstable workings
01:13of the West.
01:14Likewise, the Congress' objective is to take concrete actions against Western interferences.
01:19This Wednesday, a plan of action is to be developed coordinated among all the sectors
01:23and actors focused on neutralizing the effects of the fascist right-wing in the world.
01:33And in Venezuela, human rights activist and defender Michel Mader participated in the
01:38World Congress against neo-fascism and other similar activities held in La Carlota where
01:42representatives from more than 95 countries share common ground on an issue that puts
01:46the whole world at risk.
01:52I knew I had a father, but I never saw him.
01:56And I learned in school, when I was very little, I was 3 years old, 3 and a half years old,
02:01and a little girl told me that my father had died in a crematorium oven.
02:06And I didn't know what a crematorium oven was.
02:09And when I got home, I asked my mother what crematorium oven meant.
02:14And I didn't get an answer.
02:15So I grew up with the idea that I had a father who had died in a crematorium oven.
02:20And I stayed for years with that idea.
02:23I would watch my mother prepare packages to send to someone.
02:27And I assumed she was sending packages to my father.
02:31And packages that, later on, I know never arrived.
02:34I had to learn what fascism was, precisely in order to learn to continue my life.
02:39To grow up in this period of the Second World War with a lot of what was not said, a lot
02:43of silence.
02:49In Colombia, at least 10 people were injured and one of them seriously after a grenade
02:52exploded outside a police station in Bogota.
02:55Local authorities are investigating the incident, which has raised community concerns about
02:59security in the capital.
03:01The explosion occurred at a time of increasing violence in the country, with armed groups
03:05stepping up their attacks.
03:07Police have tightened security in the area and are on high alert.
03:10This attack adds to a series of recent incidents that have affected security forces in Colombia,
03:15granted authorities to redouble efforts to combat crime and restore public confidence.
03:20Investigations continue to determine the perpetrators of this violent act.
03:29In Mexico, the judicial reform was approved in general in the Senate after a long session
03:33in which Morena achieved a qualified majority.
03:36The final vote was 86 votes in favor and 41 against, and included a violent reaction from
03:41the pan-opposition, which tried at various times to stop the discussion.
03:45Its promoters described the reform as historical, claiming it aims to guarantee that every person
03:50has real access to justice through a profound change in the organization and integration
03:54of the various bodies that make up the federal judicial power and the local judicial powers.
04:00Senator Gerardo Fernandez Noronha announced the approval as the long session came to an
04:04end.
04:13According to the vote count, a total of 127 votes were cast, of which 86 were in favor,
04:2041 against and zero abstentions, thus meeting the qualified majority required for the approval
04:25of the decree.
04:30There is a qualified majority, therefore it is approved in general and in everything not
04:35reserved of the draft decree amending, adding, and revoking various provisions of the political
04:40constitution of the 11 Mexican states in matters of reform of the judiciary.
04:45In this context, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum welcomed the approval of the judicial reform
04:52on X.
04:53President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum wrote, I congratulate the senators of our movement
04:57for the approval of the judicial reform with the election of judges, magistrates and ministers.
05:02The administration of justice in our country will be strengthened.
05:05The regime of corruption and prejudice is becoming a thing of the past and a true democracy
05:10and the rule of law are being built.
05:12Demos means people, Kratos power, the power of the people.
05:24In Chile, a young man who was murdered in the march remembering the victims of the Pinochet
05:28dictatorship last Sunday, September 8, in an attack of fascist character, the government
05:33is keeping silent and the media is keeping the identity of the alleged assailant a secret,
05:38raising the suspicions of the victim's family and friends.
05:44The hearing was closed and the identity of the alleged murderer, who was remanded in
05:49custody, was also protected.
05:52Indeed, he identified himself on several occasions as a counter-marcher.
05:57That is to say that he was against the demonstration that was taking place.
06:03And it was none other than the traditional pilgrimage for human rights that remembers
06:07the victims of the Pinochet dictatorship 51 years after the coup d'etat against Salvador
06:12Allende.
06:13A demonstration that was intensely repressed by carabineros from the moment it started.
06:22We are not afraid of them.
06:24We have the right to honor our own.
06:33At the end of the march, the younger protesters responded to the attacks by the police.
06:37And it was there that, without any discussion, a man in civilian clothes took out a knife
06:42and stabbed three demonstrators.
06:44The images only became known during Sunday night, through official channels and with
06:49the government's version, which tries to show the attack as a fight between private individuals.
06:56There is a person arrested in the context of this criminal act, but the relationship
07:00with the pilgrimage has not been completely determined, therefore I would be prudent in
07:05this respect.
07:06The investigation will be able to determine if it is related or not.
07:14Why does the government seek to disguise this attack that was openly against the demonstrators?
07:19For the family and friends there is no doubt.
07:21The other two stabbed youths, still hospitalized, reported that the aggressor was near a carabineros
07:27picket line, identified himself as anti-marchers and insulted them with fascist shouts before
07:33attacking them.
07:40This is one of the few citizen videos of the alleged murderer, minutes after stabbing the
07:45youths.
07:48He was rebuked by other demonstrators who assisted the wounded, while the subject was
07:52immediately arrested.
07:59Despite carrying a weapon, in the exclusive images of National Television of Chile, some
08:05other details can be seen.
08:09A treatment reminiscent of the murderers who fatally shot community member Francisca Sandoval,
08:14also at a march in 2022 at the beginning of Gabriel Boric's government.
08:19Fascist attacks in the hands of civilians are repeated.
08:24The magistrate understands that the defendant acted with total disregard for the life of
08:28my client and the interests of his family.
08:35A contempt that seems to extend to government authorities who have remained silent about
08:39this murder that ended the life of 26-year-old Alonso Verdejo in the midst of a march that
08:45repudiates the worst of fascism incarnated in Augusto Pinochet.
08:49Let's now take a short break but remember you can join us on Tiktok at Telesur English
08:58where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
09:02We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:15Welcome back.
09:28In the United States, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump engaged in a tense confrontation during
09:32the only presidential debate US citizens would likely see before going to the polls in November.
09:37The presidential candidates crossed strong accusations on sensitive issues such as economy,
09:41migration, abortion, healthcare, and foreign policy, while also dodging direct questions
09:46from moderators on future policy plans.
09:49Trump assured that under his presidency there would never have been a war with Ukraine.
09:54In turn, Harris accused him of supporting Russian President Putin.
09:58During the face-off, Latin American and Caribbean were scarcely and negatively alluded to as
10:02Trump attacked Haitian and Hispanic immigrants which, together with his questioning of Harris'
10:06ethnic background, prompted the current vice-president to warn about the divisive approach.
10:11I mean, honestly, I think it's a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president
10:21who has consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the
10:27American people.
10:28You know, I do believe that the vast majority of us know that we have so much more in common
10:33than what separates us.
10:34And I don't want this kind of approach that is just constantly trying to divide us, and
10:39especially by race.
10:41I intend to be a president for all Americans and focus on what we can do over the next
10:4710 and 20 years to build back up our country by investing right now in you, the American
10:54people.
10:55In turn, former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the Biden-Harris administration
10:59for its alleged lack of action during the current term.
11:03So she just started by saying she's going to do this, she's going to do that, she's
11:06going to do all these wonderful things.
11:09Why hasn't she done it?
11:11She's been there for three and a half years, they've had three and a half years to fix
11:15the border, they've had three and a half years to create jobs, and all the things we talked
11:21about.
11:22Why hasn't she done it?
11:26Also during the debate, when questioned about their stand on the ongoing Israeli genocide
11:29of the Palestinian people, both candidates ratified Israel's right to defend itself,
11:34with Vice President Harris highlighting the two-state solution option and backing the
11:37current administration's support for the Zionist regime.
11:41And so absolutely, I said then, I say now, Israel has a right to defend itself.
11:46We would.
11:48And how it does so matters.
11:50Because it is also true, far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed, children, mothers.
11:58What we know is that this war must end.
12:03It must end immediately, and the way it will end is we need a ceasefire deal and we need
12:08the hostages out.
12:10And so we will continue to work around the clock on that, work around the clock also
12:16understanding that we must chart a course for a two-state solution.
12:21And in that solution, there must be security for the Israeli people and Israel, and an
12:27equal measure for the Palestinians.
12:29But the one thing I will assure you always, I will always give Israel the ability to defend
12:35itself, in particular as it relates to Iran and any threat that Iran and its proxies pose
12:42to Israel.
12:43But we must have a two-state solution where we can rebuild Gaza, where the Palestinians
12:49have security, self-determination, and the dignity they so rightly deserve.
12:57The Israeli forces keep up the siege against the Palestinian civilian population.
13:16In the past couple of hours, they have slaughtered over 27 Gazans.
13:19While the U.S. presidential nominees ratified their support for Israel's right to defense,
13:24As the U.S. is the main partner in the genocidal operation of the silence regime against Palestine,
13:28on Wednesday, the Israeli troops have been dropping bombs on a residential building in
13:33Hanjounis, claiming 13 lives.
13:35Meanwhile, the army killed a fisherman nearby, al-Mawassi, and minutes later, the Israeli
13:40forces attacked the Jabalia refugee camp, leaving nine dead, including three children
13:45and two women.
13:46The Israeli army further mounted an incursion into an apartment building in New Zerat Gaza's
13:51downtown, bringing about four fatal victims and 11 injured.
13:59In this context, United Nations Secretary-General Spokesperson Stefan Jaric said that the U.N.
14:03condemns the attacks perpetrated by the Israeli army in Hanjounis refugee camp in Gaza.
14:08Jaric assured that the Secretary-General considers unacceptable the use of weapons in populated
14:13areas.
14:14The spokesman reiterated that there is currently no safe place in Gaza, and appealed on behalf
14:18of the agency for an immediate ceasefire.
14:21According to Health Reform, these occupation forces have killed nearly 41,000 Palestinians
14:25since last October.

15:19Welcome back.
15:22Heat waves and droughts have triggered wildfires in the Amazon rainforest for over a week,
15:27stretching unhealthy air quality not only in Brazil but also in Paraguay and Bolivia,
15:32according to data collected by the Air Quality Index.
15:34In response, 37 military firefighters from Brazil's National Public Security Force are
15:38working on putting out wildfires in the Bolivian border strip.
15:42Moreover, the Center for Preventing and Combating Forest Fires of Brazil are leading efforts
15:47to extinguish 41 wildfires in the Pantanal wetland region.
15:51Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education of Paraguay decided on Monday to close schools nearby
15:56the wildfires as the air quality has been worsening.
15:58In this context, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio da Silva touched on the ongoing climate
16:02emergency.
16:08Our forests and rivers are a barrier against the climate catastrophe that threatens the
16:13planet.
16:14That's why the whole world is watching Brazil right now.
16:18As you can see here, the drought is coming more systematically.
16:22It's not happening gradually.
16:25And the Vietnamese Department of Dive Management and Disaster Prevention and Control report
16:29at least 143 deaths and 58 others are missing following the passage of typhoon Jagi.
16:35The most hit areas are Yen Bai, Cao Bang, and Lao Cai localities, while in Bao Yen district
16:41severe landslides have been recorded.
16:44The Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Lao Cai, and other senior government authorities
16:48are directly in charge of leading the search and rescue efforts.
16:51Meanwhile, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front launched a campaign to support
16:56the victims of Typhoon Jagi.
17:02In Laos, flash floods in the wake of Typhoon Jagi brought destruction in north-flooding
17:07villages and farmland, as authorities reported one person dead.
17:10The worst-hit provinces were Luang Namtha and Phong Sali, where residents had to shelter
17:15on poor floors and wade chests deep through murky waters.
17:20In this context, Luang Namtha, Deputy District Chief Sivarai Pankwep, said over 300 people
17:25from 17 villages were evacuated while the UN's World Food Program said to be very concerned
17:30for the safety of communities in northern Laos.
17:37During my work I saw houses were under water, many cows died while chickens and ducks were
17:42on rooftop.
17:44This storm was quite big.
17:46I haven't seen it like this since I was young.
17:49Meanwhile, Typhoon Jagi claimed four lives in northern Thailand and flooded thousands
17:54of homes.
17:55In response, the government mobilized the army to help affected families.
17:59Prime Minister Pai Thong Tharn Sinawatra stated that aid is on the way to around 1,000 families
18:05in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
18:09For its part, the health ministry deployed medical staff, volunteers and rescue workers
18:12to migrate elder people to safer places.
18:15The Thai Meteorological Department also warned that more heavy rains were expected, bringing
18:19the risk of fresh flash floods.
18:28The flood destroyed some of the wall.
18:30The flood water reached chest level.
18:33In some areas, the water level almost reached the roof of a two-level house, so that's why
18:37people need to seek shelter on the roof.
18:40Now the flood continues to rise.
18:42It is my first time seeing flooding like this in my 30 year of living here.
18:48On Tuesday, Indian authorities decreed a curfew and temporarily put off internet services
18:53in the northern region in a bid to quell clashes between the Mete and the Kuki communities.
18:58The conflict started in May 2023 and has claimed over 220 lives, as Kukis are demanding
19:02Maytays to provide them official tribal status.
19:05Currently, Maytays inhabit the Imphal Valley, while Kukis live in the surrounding hill areas,
19:11Manipur state.
19:12In this context, and in an attempt to bring peace, the government enacted the curfew for
19:15the Imphal Valley and surrounding districts, while internet service has been cut off in
19:19the whole Manipur state.
19:21Meanwhile, domestic security forces have been trying to repel clashes between the rival
19:25communities.
19:29I'm a woman who never, ever fails to deliver.
19:43At the SimĂłn BolĂvar International Airport in the state of La Guaira, in north-central
19:46Venezuela, the athletes from this country who competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic
19:51Games, held from August 28th to September 8th, were received with joy.
19:55Let's see the details.
19:58Some of the Venezuelan athletes who participated in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games were welcomed
20:04with music, family and friends.

20:28Here is the job done, it is done, mission accomplished soldier.
20:34As we say, proud to have brought our medal to Venezuela.
20:38There are others coming too.
20:40It is good that we are going to receive them.
20:42We keep on working, we have other accounts pending, but we keep on working for what is
20:46coming again, again towards the cycle of the next sports game.
20:5125 athletes put the name of Venezuela on high, achieving a total of 6 Olympic medals, 3 gold,
20:582 silver and 1 bronze, and 12 Olympic medals.
21:03I brought my message for people who want to motivate themselves.
21:06Especially my message is directed to people who have some kind of disability.
21:10The message is to set a goal, to have clear goals because dreams do come true.
21:14What for me before was a dream is now a reality.
21:17Not only the medals and diplomas obtained, but also the significant contribution of these
21:22athletes to the national sport.
21:25We improved 5 places in relation to Tokyo.
21:28What does this tell us?
21:29What does it mean that there is a development of the sport at all levels?
21:35With applause and euphoria, these athletes toured the west of the Venezuelan capital.
21:39Our people's power receiving those athletes who, with enthusiasm, dedication and a lot of care,
21:44raised the tricolor flag in the Paris 2024 game.
21:51Thanks to its outstanding performance, the Venezuelan federation ranked 34th in the world,
21:56an important advance that highlights the potential of the national sport.
