00:20In France, the left claims President Emmanuel Macron is stealing the legislative election
00:25from the people by appointing conservative Michael Banner as prime minister and rejecting
00:29to appoint economist Lucy Kastetz.
00:34And in Palestine, the occupier's troops leave Janine, leaving death and destruction
00:39in their wake.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with news.
00:54The president of Honduras, Omar Castro, condemned the destabilizing actions taking place in
00:59the country against democracy.
01:01The head of state ratified this Friday that her government belongs to the people and that
01:06she will continue defending their rights in spite of the complex circumstances the country
01:10is going through due to the interference of the United States.
01:14The president pointed out that her government is facing a crisis and assured to be ready
01:19to repel the attacks in defense of the will of the Honduran people.
01:23Mr. Mara Castro emphasized that the armed forces, the popular organizations and the
01:27unity of the Free Party will defend democracy, its independence, sovereignty and dignity
01:32without forgetting to be an axis of anti-imperialist resistance.
01:43I call on the Honduran people to get organized.
01:52But I also call on the Liberty and RE Foundation Party to maintain the political unity because
02:04we need to repel the coup d'état that is being planned by the right wing and those
02:18who staged the coup d'état in 2009.
02:30The Honduran head of state rejected any links between political leaders and drug traffickers.
02:39We understand that a member of our party made a terrible mistake without informing
02:51the coordinator, the candidate and the party behind our backs and we deplore any action.
03:08Or any negotiation between politicians and drug traffickers.
03:25We do not accept it and we will not allow it.
03:33In Venezuela, the Vice President, Telci Rodriguez, who is also Venezuela's Minister of Energy
03:37and Petroleum, has toured the Orinoco oil field to see that the industry continues to
03:43strengthen.
03:44The facility, one of the most important in the country and named after Commander Hugo
03:48Chavez, was toured by the delegation, which also included the President of Petroles de
03:53Venezuela, Hector Obregón, and in a leading role, the plant's workers.
03:57During the visit to the facility located in the south of the country, which extends over
04:02five states, they reviewed the recovery and development plans and reaffirmed the commitment
04:07to contribute to peace and the growth of the country.
04:15The Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, ratified the summons by the Public Prosecutor's
04:20Office to the former presidential candidate of the Venezuelan ultra-right, Edmundo González,
04:25to make statements in relation to a series of crimes he is accused of, among them his
04:29responsibility for the publication on an unofficial webpage of fraudulent elections records.
04:35We give you more details with our correspondent Luis Guillermo Garcia.
04:43Prosecutor Tarek William Saab recalled that Edmundo González has repeatedly ignored and
04:47disrespected the authority of several institutions of the Venezuelan state, first of all the
04:51National Electoral Council, by not signing an agreement to respect the results, which
04:56he did not recognize and then endorsed, through different means, the publication of false
05:01minutes in an electronic media, accusing the electoral power of fraud.
05:06Then, he disregarded the summons issued by the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court
05:10of Justice to present his arguments and evidence of his accusations and, finally, he did not
05:15appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office, after this agency ordered his presence in
05:20three occasions.
05:26In this sense, as we informed you, the Public Prosecutor's Office ratifies the summons
05:32with the arrest warrant in progress for González Urrutia to be interviewed, and ratifies that
05:37he is requested and must be presented and brought to justice, as it corresponds within
05:42the framework of the Constitution and the law.
05:51The denunciations of electoral fraud made by the ex-candidate of the ultra-right, endorsed
05:56by corporate and political powers of the United States, were followed by multiple violent
06:01acts carried out by groups financed by the extreme right, several of which have already
06:07been ordered by the authorities, who point to Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo González
06:12as those responsible for these criminal operations.
06:21They are the intellectual actors of the death of 27 Venezuelans during the days following
06:25July 28 and of having mortally wounded 190, of which 100 are police and military officials
06:32and of having attacked and destroyed 400 state and also private properties, such as schools,
06:38high schools, universities, health centers, educational centers.
06:47The also President of the Citizen Power, Tariq William Saab, highlights that Edmundo González,
06:53through his lawyer, José Vicente Haro, states that he is not responsible for the publication
06:58of the false tally sheets and that this is the responsibility of the unitary platform
07:02led by Maria Corina Machado.
07:04However, the Attorney General pointed out that it is public, notorious and communicative
07:09that the former candidate proclaimed his supposed electoral triumph based on these fraudulent
07:13publications.
07:14However, the Attorney General emphasizes that the presence of González Heredia's lawyer
07:19before the public prosecutor's office is a sign that this attorney recognizes the authority.
07:29Edmundo González Urrutia recognizes the Venezuelan institutionality.
07:35He recognizes the public ministry, which has a value for democracy, because indeed, if
07:41he presented himself as the electoral standard bearer of the most extreme right, and even
07:46boasts that he was a diplomat, the least a diplomat should do is to respect the rule
07:51of law, to be in the right if he is required and to present his allegations based on an
07:57ongoing investigation that has been made public.
08:07According to these announcements, the authorities are continuing their investigations into the
08:11various acts that sought to carry out a coup in Venezuela after the July 28th elections,
08:17in which President Nicolas Maduro won.
08:28Mexico's President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that there is no possibility of suspending
08:32the reform of the judiciary as it is a decision of the people.
08:36This is how she responded after being consulted by the media about the beginning of consultations
08:41on the reform announced by the Supreme Court of Justice.
08:44The President-elect assured that a few people cannot reverse the decision of the Mexican
08:48people expressed on June 2nd.
08:51She assured that the decision rests in the sovereign power and that it will be the best
08:56for the country.
09:02Who has to decide the constitutional reform are the deputies and senators, and as it says
09:08in the constitution since 1939 that sovereignty resides in the people, but also, the only
09:15one who has the power to change the constitution is the constituent, which in our country are
09:22two-thirds of the chamber of deputies of senators and majorities that correspond in local congresses.
09:29We must make the popular will.
09:33The President-elect called for calm and stated that reform is the best thing that can happen
09:38to the country.
09:41Nobody has to worry.
09:43The fact that the judges, ministers, and magistrates are elected by the people of Mexico is better
09:49for Mexico.
09:50That means more democracy, more independence of the judiciary, but also, as I have explained,
09:56the way in which they will be elected to be voted.
09:59Who will decide who will be voted is through a broad call, is the best thing that can happen
10:04to the country.

10:29Welcome back.
10:35On Friday, Brazilians arrived to the commemoration of the Amazon Day amid severe regional drought
10:40and surging wildfires.
10:42According to the National Institute for Space Research, INPE, over 38,000 fire outbreaks
10:48have been recorded throughout the Amazon just in August.
10:51The INPE specialists asserted that humidity and smog from wildfires are spreading to Sao
10:57Paulo metropolitan region due to the drought and the low flow of the Amazon rivers.
11:02So far, some 62 municipalities in the region have been declared in a state of emergency,
11:07while local authorities estimate that over 330,000 people have been affected.
11:18In Córdoba, in the central region of Argentina, the forest fire season has started, prompting
11:23the province authorities to declare a state of disaster.
11:27Precisely, the governor of Córdoba, Martín Jaroira, informed that the fires have consumed
11:3212 hectares of land affecting the state of Cala Mochita, Punilla, Colón and Santa María,
11:37and added that they are working to reduce the damage and help the victims.
11:42In this regard, the secretary of climate risk management of the province acknowledged the
11:46bravery of the fire department, whose performance prevented a major tragedy.
11:55In France, the left claims President Emmanuel Macron stole the legislative election from
12:00the people by appointing conservative Michael Barnier as prime minister.
12:04Despite the fact that the left-wing coalition New Popular Front won last July's legislative
12:09elections, the French head of state refused to appoint the economist Lucie Castex as head
12:14of the government.
12:15In turn, the French left has lashed out at the decision, with the founder of La France
12:22Jean-Luc Mélenchon asserting that the elections have been stolen.
12:26Likewise, the French Communist Party, the Ecologists and the Socialist Party have all
12:30expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment.
12:33In this context, Mélenchon has called on the French to demonstrate on the streets to
12:39defend democracy next Saturday.
12:50The message was nullified.
12:52And now we discover a prime minister who has been appointed, with the permission and perhaps
12:57at the suggestion of the national rally.
13:01Whereas the second round of the legislative election had been entirely focused on defeating
13:06this national rally, it is the person closest to its positions who is appointed, virtually
13:14a government of Mr Macron and Ms Le Pen.
13:19Furthermore, the leader of La France Insoumise also emphasized that the decision nullified
13:23the message of the legislative election which was defeating the advances of the far-right
13:28party in the nation.
13:32The election has been stolen, the prime minister carries a message of negation of the will
13:37of the French people, and this is not the first time.
13:42I therefore call for the most powerful mobilization possible on September 7th for the respect
13:48of democracy, for the respect of the proper understanding of what our republican institutions
13:53placed under the sovereignty of the people.

14:21The government of Russia announced on Friday it will impose restrictions on US media, an
14:26action that comes in response to Washington's sanctions against Russian media outlets.
14:31The restrictions were announced on Friday by the spokesman of the presidential office,
14:35Dmitry Peskov, in reference to the coercive measures imposed on media outlets such as
14:40Sputnik and some of its workers.
14:43For its part, the Russian ambassador accredited in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, assured that
14:48sanctions have become a kind of discipline in political sports for the United States.
14:54Furthermore, the diplomat stressed that these measures are aimed at pressuring independent
14:58countries and highlight the risk of a dollar-centered system.
15:08In the Philippines, the former major of Bamba and Alice, Leal Guo, was extradited back to
15:13the country early Friday after being arrested in Indonesia.
15:17Guo, who had been on the run since July, is accused of human trafficking and links to
15:22organised crime, specifically involving a gambling centre where hundreds were allegedly
15:27forced to run scams or face torture.
15:30Her escape route included Malaysia and Singapore before her capture on September 3rd, 2024.
15:36Upon arrival in Manila, she was taken into custody by national police.
15:41Guo faces multiple charges, including theft and money laundering.
15:45Philippine President Fernando Marcos Jr. called her capture a significant step in combating crime.
15:56The United Nations Organization announced that the number of people suffering from catastrophic
16:01hunger will soar in 2024, largely due to the conflicts in Gaza and Sudan.
16:06According to the most recent release of the Global Food Crisis Report, at least 2 million
16:11people now face the most critical level of food insecurity, an increase of more than
16:15double from the previous period.
16:18The report confirms extreme food shortages and contemplated coping capacities and warns
16:23of a markedly increased risk of acute malnutrition and death.
16:28The report also detailed that the impact of the war and severe restrictions on humanitarian
16:32response have led to a total collapse of food, health and protection systems, with
16:37catastrophic consequences.
16:39In Palestine, after carrying out the largest military incursion into the occupied territory
17:05since 2000, the occupier troops leave Jenin, leaving death and destruction in their wake.
17:10The end of the siege of the city and its refugee camps has been confirmed by the local authorities.
17:16They also certify that the genocidal army has withdrawn from the vicinity of the government
17:20hospital and the EBN Sina Hospital, where they had been stationed since the invasion
17:26of the West Bank began on August 28.
17:29The local government, confirming the complete disengagement of the Israeli military, reported
17:3439 deaths, more than 130 wounded and almost complete destruction after nine days of violence.
17:48In Palestine, health workers started vaccinating children against polio in the southern Gaza
17:53Strip on Thursday, after concluding the first phase of the immunization campaign in the
17:58territory's central areas.
18:00Vaccines are being administered by local health teams, in coordination with UNICEF and the
18:05World Health Organization, as an urgent measure to prevent a polio outbreak, after health
18:10authorities confirmed the first case reported in 25 years.
18:14There remains a risk that polio could re-emerge as a regional or global outbreak.
18:20It is important to note that the disease reappeared in Gaza as a mutated virus from the oral polio
18:26vaccine.
18:27In this context, Hanan Balki, World Health Organization regional director, made a few
18:32statements.
