00:00Hey guys, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging.
00:08So many of you have reached out to me lately asking for an update on my gastric sleeve
00:12surgery in more detail.
00:15So I have shared like the weight loss and just brief updates on other social media platforms.
00:20If you're not following me on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, you can find me by searching at
00:24Gorgeously Aging.
00:26But I've had some specific questions, so I wanted to go in depth and just share my six
00:31week update.
00:32Weight loss, mood, energy, how my abdomen is actually healing, my workouts, what I'm
00:39eating, and a supplemental treatment I'm doing to burn fat.
00:43So I will share all of that in this video.
00:45So as of six weeks post-surgery, I am down 34.1 pounds, which ends up being 14.5% of
00:53my body mass, which has been reduced.
00:55I am off high blood pressure medications, which was one of my primary reasons to have
01:00the surgery done, to be overall healthier and to feel better in my skin.
01:05Following the death of my son, Drew, almost two years ago, I went through a very heavy
01:09period of grieving, which is understandable.
01:12And during that time, I really didn't care much about myself.
01:16It's during this time that I gained a pretty significant amount of weight.
01:19I was ready to take my life back, to take my health back.
01:23I was ready to live in a way that I felt was honoring my son rather than feeling tortured
01:28every day with emotional pain.
01:30I've tried many other things in the past, including GLP-1 medications, namely Sexenda,
01:36which I thought was wonderful for appetite suppression and weight loss.
01:40Unfortunately for me, and if you saw my medical charts, it's pretty thick, I am diagnosed
01:46with severe metabolic disorder.
01:48Part of that is my hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, and Hashimoto's disease.
01:53I've tracked my calories for years and years using MyFitnessPal.
01:58Somebody commented, in fact, a couple people commented that I have no self-control and
02:02that I just needed to get self-control.
02:04I've never really eaten more than 1,500 to 1,600 calories a day, which for most people
02:10is a calorie deficit, which leads to weight loss.
02:12I've never been a volume eater or a binge eater.
02:15I sometimes make poor choices or comfort eat, but it's usually not in excess.
02:21I know my story in terms of getting gastric sleeve isn't probably the typical story because
02:26when people look at me, they just say I'm a curvy woman and I'm not obese.
02:30However, with the high blood pressure and my health deteriorating, I knew that I needed
02:36to take some kind of action sooner rather than later.
02:39So at about five weeks or last week for me, I kind of hit a weight loss stall.
02:43Things started to really slow down.
02:45At this point, I upped the exercise a little bit, still staying in the guidelines that
02:50are recommended post-surgery.
02:52So walking, light hiking, I'm doing some swimming, not vigorous, but more water aerobics type
02:59stuff that's gentle on the body.
03:00And I also just started doing some very light weightlifting and I'm doing planks to tighten
03:06up my core muscles.
03:08Now working out, nutrition have always been a really big part of my life.
03:11So I know the principles of weightlifting and I know the principles of good nutrition.
03:17I'm just really, really focusing on doing everything right and taking care of my body.
03:22It's really hard to undo the two years of damage that I've done in grieving and not
03:26taking care of myself.
03:28So I'm committed to doing my absolute best.
03:30Now doing my best doesn't mean perfection or that I'm expecting perfection out of myself,
03:35but I do want to make sure that I'm doing everything in my power to be successful at
03:40rebuilding my health, rebuilding my fitness and feeling better about myself.
03:45I'm eating mostly high protein foods.
03:48Every two to three hours, I'm eating about a half a cup of food.
03:51And what that looks like is maybe a Greek yogurt at 6am, at 9am it might be two scrambled
03:57eggs.
03:58At 11 or 12, I may have some chicken with refried beans topped with just a little bit
04:05of cheese.
04:06And again, these are just half cup portions.
04:09So you're eating frequently high protein, very small portions.
04:13For an afternoon snack, I may have a half a cup of cottage cheese.
04:18For dinner, it may be some tuna fish mixed with a little bit of light mayo.
04:22Or I also love lean ground beef topped with a little cheese or lean ground beef topped
04:29with taco seasoning, a little salsa and some light cheese.
04:33Greek yogurt is something I've always loved.
04:35So actually all of these foods are foods that I really enjoy.
04:39So it hasn't been a hard transition.
04:41What was really difficult for me was the two weeks before surgery having only liquid or
04:47protein shakes and then two weeks following surgery only protein shakes.
04:51I shouldn't say it was hard.
04:53In hindsight, looking back at it, it went pretty smoothly.
04:55But by the second week post surgery, I had been on liquids for about three to four weeks.
05:01I don't know if I did liquids two weeks before surgery or one week.
05:04That's kind of escaping me right now.
05:06That's all such a blur.
05:07But by the time I was two weeks post surgery, I was ready to get into more pureed foods
05:12and soft foods.
05:13I am following the diet to the letter.
05:16So that means no alcohol, no caffeine, no soda or carbonation.
05:21I'm not really eating any kind of refined foods.
05:24Everything that I'm eating is whole foods.
05:26So I really haven't gone into my pantry at all.
05:29Everything I'm eating tends to be stuff that are from the outer aisles of the store like
05:33produce and dairy and of course meat.
05:36Recently I have added having a few teaspoons of peanut butter every so often.
05:41Not every day, but maybe a couple times a week.
05:44Healthy fats do sometimes help you move past a weight loss plateau.
05:48Those are the two things that I found helped me move the scale and reduce more fat when
05:52I get a little bit stuck or reach a stall.
05:55And that's your body's natural way of defending itself.
05:58So it doesn't want you to lose weight.
05:59So it kind of recalibrates to push past that stall, having a little bit more in the way
06:04of healthy fats and also increasing the workouts just a little bit, nothing crazy, helps push
06:10the needle.
06:11My mood has been pretty good, but I did have a few really odd days of feeling blue and
06:16I don't know if that's just my grief still kind of creeping in because that's a lifelong
06:21journey and I know grieving my son is going to be something that is with me forever and
06:26has significantly changed who I am.
06:29There is no greater emotional pain than the loss of a child.
06:33And that's something I think is just going to have to be accepted.
06:37And hopefully I learned to navigate beyond those types of days.
06:41I'm not somebody that has a food addiction or ever has had that food addiction.
06:45So I haven't felt any kind of loss for eating or food.
06:50I feel like I'm eating enough to satisfy my body and hopefully nourish my body so that
06:55I can reach my fitness goals.
06:57And I know there are so many people out there that struggle that food has become their closest
07:02friend and their source of comfort.
07:05In my time of grieving, I did feel that comfort and that big warm hug of foods that felt comforting
07:12to me.
07:13Having said that, I never felt any type of food addiction, which I think makes this process
07:19for me easier than maybe somebody that has had a food addiction for many, many years.
07:24My energy levels are improving day by day, but that is something that surprised me a
07:29bit after surgery.
07:30I knew it was to be expected, but I was really wiped out.
07:33Each day the energy levels get a little bit better.
07:37It takes a tremendous toll on the body to have a major surgery like a gastric sleeve
07:41where they remove, actually remove a portion of the stomach.
07:44I know that seems like a really extreme way to go for somebody who is curvy but not morbidly
07:51obese.
07:52When I was looking over 50 and post-menopausal, I really wanted to do something that was going
07:57to be more permanent.
07:58I've done the yo-yo, especially having, I've done the yo-yo of diets, of feeling great
08:04after losing 30 pounds and trying as I might to keep that off and having it creep back
08:09up.
08:10That's still a risk with gastric sleeve, but gastric sleeve is a tool to help me stay successful.
08:16I made the investment out of pocket to have the surgery done and I don't want to waste
08:21my money by not being very disciplined and really focusing on health, nutrition and reaching
08:27my goals.
08:28Quite frankly, I am sick of the yo-yo.
08:31I'm sick of feeling really good about where I'm going health-wise and then having that
08:35all slip away and then doing it all over again.
08:38Obviously, gastric sleeve surgery is not the right solution for everybody and quite honestly,
08:43I think if people followed the kind of principles that they outline in the post-surgery diet,
08:49eating high protein meals every 2-3 hours, only a half to 3 quarters of a cup, getting
08:54in about 20-30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week, that anybody could take those principles
08:59and use them to lose weight and increase muscle mass.
09:03Eating more frequently and eating more protein does help you to feel fuller longer, which
09:08leads to weight loss.
09:09It also helps to keep the muscles from deteriorating as you're losing weight.
09:14Supplementally, I am using an RF cavitation machine to do fat cavitation, often called
09:21lipocavitation, on the fat in my midsection and sides.
09:25I've done 3 treatments now and I will show you guys the tutorial and my before and afters,
09:31which may be a little skewed because I am actually losing weight, but I'm treating areas
09:35that are very stubborn for me, like my belly and the little fat pockets underneath my bra
09:40strap in the front.
09:42So even when I get thin, those pockets of fat tend to stay, so I'm treating those areas
09:47with the fat cavitation and my husband has also, he's not dieting, he has some love handles
09:53on the sides, doesn't matter how thin he gets, he always has these love handles, so he's
09:58offered to let me experiment on him.
10:00So we have a controlled study of somebody that isn't dieting.
10:03I'll show you my journey and as I work on his problem areas, I'll show that as well.
10:08The fat cavitation machine that I have is one that has suction, so it actually has radio
10:13frequency, red LED light, and suction as one of the heads for this device.
10:19It's a pretty robust device, but if you're ever looking for a cavitation machine, definitely
10:23get one with suction, which makes such a difference.
10:26The one I use is actually a really good price point and if you're interested, I'll link
10:30that down in the description box below.
10:32Again, I'll have a tutorial or at least a little demonstration coming very soon.
10:37You guys can also find more over at Rumble.com or just Google Rumble Gorgeously Aging and
10:43you'll find me there.
10:45There's a lot more full length tutorials there and advanced skincare and facial rejuvenation.
10:50So overall, I have absolutely no regrets getting the gastric sleeve.
10:55There was a period of discomfort following surgery, but each day that improved and I
10:59totally expected that to be an issue for the first week.
11:03I'm feeling so much more like myself.
11:06Going through the grieving process after Drew's death, I lost myself completely.
11:10I just felt like the rest of my life was going to be mourning the loss of my son and knowing
11:16that I would never have him in my life again.
11:18I just couldn't fathom how I'd ever get beyond that.
11:22And there's still days where I feel that loss profoundly, but I do realize that I'm not
11:29honoring him living the way that I was living.
11:32But more than anything, I want to honor him.
11:35I want to live a life that he would be proud of.
11:37And I want to be present in my kids and grandchildren's lives.
11:41He has two beautiful children that he left behind and I want to be the best grandma that
11:46I can be for those two beautiful kids.
11:49I want to thank those of you who have been so kind and supportive, not only through my
11:53weight loss journey, but just through this really difficult time since Drew's passing.
11:58So many of you have been strength for me.
12:01You have been so supportive, so kind, and so understanding.
12:05I can't even put into words how much that has meant to me.
12:09Thank you for being you, for being amazing, for being a beautiful person, because that's
12:14what the world needs.
12:15Thank you for watching today's video and remember, be good to yourselves and to others.
12:19I'll see you next time.
