00:00Hey friends I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we're going to talk about

00:09the lip flip.

00:11This is a treatment that is done with botulinum toxin and I want to talk a little bit about

00:15what to expect and just some of the things that are slight annoyances with a lip flip.

00:20I also want to talk about correct injection and just the orbicularis oris muscle in general.

00:27The more you know, the more educated you are, the better results you get.

00:30So the orbicularis oris muscle is the muscle that is a circular muscle around the mouth

00:36and it's responsible for the puckering.

00:40So when you move your mouth, when you speak, when you chew, the muscle that is the orbicularis

00:47oris around the mouth is circular and it's like a sphincter muscle and it closes and

00:52opens.

00:53So when you treat the upper lip with a lip flip, you relax that muscle, it doesn't squeeze

00:58down so hard.

00:59This allows the lip to kind of have more fullness.

01:03Another benefit is that if you have a really narrow upper lip and a lot of your teeth and

01:09your gums show, now a gummy smile is treated up here by the nose, but this can help with

01:16those who have a lot of tooth show and want a little less of their teeth showing.

01:21So as of right now, when I'm talking, you can see these, what we call little triangles

01:26up here by the top of the tooth.

01:29When I do a lip flip, it's been a while for me now and I will be doing another one soon.

01:33When I do a lip flip, it relaxes my lip, makes the upper lip fuller and when I talk, only

01:40the tips of my teeth show.

01:42So this is something to keep in mind about the anatomy.

01:46Not only does it give the lip more fullness, but it does affect the way your teeth show.

01:50It also affects chewing and drinking through a straw.

01:55Now drinking through a straw is something we should probably avoid as much as we can

01:59anyway, just because that repetitive motion on a straw does cause the vertical lip lines.

02:05I've been working hard at using a cup with a spout instead of a straw, which is a really

02:10good tip if you have wrinkles around the mouth.

02:13Now somebody recently asked me, can you do a lip flip to make the bottom lip more pouty?

02:19You certainly can, but if you relax the top lip and you relax the bottom lip, you are

02:26definitely going to have a lot more difficulty with drinking, chewing, and when I say difficulty

02:32it's just going to feel a little weird.

02:34You'll still be able to chew.

02:36But one of the things that people notice when they first get a lip flip is it can make you

02:41drool a little bit in the corners of your mouth.

02:44The very first time that I did this, it only lasted a few days.

02:47You just have to get used to the more relaxed feeling in that muscle.

02:50I definitely wouldn't start off doing both the upper and lower lip.

02:54I would just do the upper lip first, see how you like that, and then maybe move on to the

02:58lower lip.

03:00Now let me show you how I treat the lip.

03:02So for my upper lip, I'll go here, here, here, and here, and I just put one unit in each

03:12of those spots.

03:14I love the Rentox, which is my favorite botulinum toxin.

03:19Toxta is also one of my favorites, and Dehantox is a really good toxin as well.

03:25If you don't want to bother with mixing Tox with sterile saline, you can definitely use

03:30Inatox, but it is not my favorite.

03:32It isn't as long-lasting, doesn't kick in as quickly, and doesn't have the same strength.

03:38Now I've used so many toxins, and the ones that are my favorites, I love because they're

03:42tried and true.

03:49Now if I'm going to do a bottom lip flip, which I don't generally do, but if I were

03:55going to, I'd just do here and here, just underneath the pink of the lip.

04:02You're going to go very superficial at an angle, both in the upper and lower.

04:06So the needle goes in at an angle just underneath the skin, one to two units in these spots.

04:13I prefer one, but that's definitely something you can do a little more, depending on your

04:19response and the results that you get.

04:23Same thing here, go in at an angle, shallow angle of entry, and then you get one unit,

04:30one to two units in each of these spots.

04:32I think the lip flip can give beautiful results, and do so many things.

04:37Not only make the lip a little fuller, but again, it helps with the tooth show, and this

04:43can be so beneficial for so many people.

04:46I personally prefer when I have a little bit less of my teeth showing when I talk, and

04:52just the tips of my teeth are showing.

04:55This can help if you have receding gum line.

04:58It can help if you don't have the most perfect teeth.

05:00And certainly, it makes the lip look fuller.
