00:09Today I want to talk about an easy and effective way to treat hyperpigmentation or age spots

00:14on the skin. As we age we often notice this on our face, neck, chest, and backs of hands

00:20and largely this is a result of UV exposure or sun damage. For those of you brand new,

00:26I'm a 52 year old Master Medical Esthetician and my goal is to help you find affordable

00:31skin solutions. You'll also find a little bit of makeup, fashion, nutrition, and diet

00:47just search at Gorgeously Aging. Although there are a ton of ways to treat hyperpigmentation,

00:51some of them a little more aggressive and require an in-office treatment, and some of

00:55those treatments like chemical peels can be done at home. You'll find more of that on

00:59my channel if you just search my channel playlist and I'll list those in the description box

01:04below. But today we're talking about something very easy, using a proven ingredient to help

01:11reduce pigmentation or melanin in the skin and also protect from future damage. So today

01:17I'm going to share with you a new product, this is from Kiehl's and I love Kiehl's as

01:21far as skincare products. I've used many of their products and many of them I love.

01:25This is their Dermatologist Solutions range and this product is called Autotone Discoloration

01:32and UV Solution. So this is a sunscreen, SPF 30, but this has an ingredient in it called

01:39Melasil. This is 0.5% and let's talk just a little bit about this ingredient and how

01:45it will help your skin. So Melasil is an ingredient that inhibits melanin production within the

01:51skin. Now we all have different ranges of melanin and that's what makes up our skin

01:55and tone and color, but with sun damage over time comes the hyperpigmentation or the uneven

02:01pigmentation in the skin. Many people refer to this as age spots because let's face it

02:06as we get older we get more of that and the skin does start to look more aged. So Melasil

02:11is a first of its kind ingredient that helps to address localized skin pigmentation. So

02:18what's wonderful is you get the hyperpigmentation treatment, but you also get a sunscreen and

02:23sunscreen is so important. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking they're going

02:28to get nice and tan during the summer and then they'll wear their sunscreen after they've

02:32gotten nice and tan. And although a tan can look so beautiful, it is so damaging and aging

02:38to the skin. I would definitely suggest protecting the skin from the sun, wearing hats, getting

02:43under an umbrella, and using a fake tan to give yourself that nice bronzy color. Let

02:49me first show you this Kiehl's product and then we'll talk a little bit more about hyperpigmentation.

02:54So this is the product here. It is a nice cream that blends in beautifully, has some

03:01nice hydrating properties, and where I like to put this is on my face, neck, chest, and

03:08backs of hands because that's where I have hyperpigmentation. Now I don't have too much

03:12hyperpigmentation on my face. I've done a good job there, but I still like to use this

03:17product for the SPF, but also for the melasyl ingredient because it is a pigment inhibitor.

03:23So the melasyl will inhibit the UV skin darkening. This ingredient is well tolerated and safe

03:31for all skin tones. Where hydroquinone, a prescription skin lightener, can be somewhat

03:37irritating on some people, melasyl is more readily accepted for all skin types, including

03:44sensitive skin. What I think is really beautiful and unique about this product is that you're

03:48getting your sunscreen, which is so important, but also getting your pigment inhibition and

03:54your hyperpigmentation treatment. Over time with regular use, this product should not

03:59only protect the skin, but reverse some of that skin damage or that hyperpigmentation

04:04leading to a more even complexion and brighter skin. Now this isn't super cheap at $52, but

04:09you are getting a double whammy getting the melasyl ingredient and an SPF. The SPF in

04:14this product is a more invisible SPF in that it blends in clear, doesn't leave a white

04:19cast, and hydrates the skin beautifully. And for those of you wondering, melasyl will help

04:24with melasma and also improve post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne. The best way

04:30to prevent any hyperpigmentation, age spots, melasma, and uneven skin tone is protection

04:37from the sun with SPF and using physical barriers like hats, umbrellas, and shade to prevent

04:45any unnecessary sun damage. Above and beyond that, using some type of melanin inhibitor

04:51like melasyl definitely helps not only correct the damage, but prevent future damage. So

04:58I wanted to take just a quick minute to introduce you guys to this product, but also the ingredient.
