00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we're going to do a micro
00:09needling session.
00:10So before we get started, you guys, I will let you know I have prepped my skin ahead
00:15of time.
00:16I washed my face thoroughly with the CeraVe Salicylic Acid Cleanser to give it a nice
00:20deep clean.
00:21I then alcohol swabbed my skin and applied a topical lidocaine.
00:25I let that lidocaine sit on for about 20 minutes and wiped off thoroughly with a alcohol swab.
00:31I then went over it with sterile gauze and a little bit of water just to make sure all
00:35of that lidocaine is off the skin before proceeding with the microneedling.
00:39For those of you brand new to my channel, my name is Stacey.
00:41I am a 52-year-old master medical esthetician with over 30 years experience in the salon
00:47and spa industry as an owner, esthetician, cosmetologist, and permanent makeup artist.
00:53Skincare is my passion and I love sharing my knowledge to help others reach their skincare goals.
00:58If you like this video today, don't forget to give it a thumbs up but also hit that share
01:02button and text it to a friend.
01:04If you've been with me for a while, you guys know I've been using the Dr. Pen M8 for years
01:09but I did just get the Dr. Pen A10 to give this a try and I'll tell you right off the
01:14bat that one of the things I like about this A10 is that you can see the numbers on the
01:19dial much, much easier, especially for over 40 eyes.
01:24So it has 5 speed settings, and we'll talk a little bit about speed in just a second,
01:30and it's easy to see where you're at because the little blue dots light up as you get faster
01:36in speed.
01:37You hold and press to turn this off.
01:39Now these cartridges are a one-time use.
01:41You don't want to use them more than once because they will no longer be sterile but
01:45also because the needles inside become dull with each use.
01:48The quickest way to get skin infection is to use these needles more than one time, even
01:54if you're only using them on yourself.
01:56Today we're going to use this Ultra Lifting EGF Ampoule.
02:00This is from Amazon and I will list it down below.
02:03All of these things here, you guys, can be bought on Amazon.
02:06These are consumer available products.
02:09This is a very cost effective skin serum and booster and it is needle safe.
02:14Now for those of you new to microneedling, you can't microneedling just any skin serum
02:18or any skin product.
02:20It has to be something that is needling safe for the skin.
02:23So I like to apply my serum to a cotton pad or a sterile gauze pad.
02:28You can just drip it on the face, but I find that to be really messy.
02:31So I'm going to go ahead and just apply some to this pad.
02:36Now as far as speed, speeds are really dependent on comfort.
02:40Typically the faster the speed, the better the tool glides.
02:44And if you look at the Dr. Penn website, in some of their videos, they'll also say
02:48it's really personal preference and comfort.
02:51But as a general rule, the faster the speed, the better it glides.
02:55You don't want to snag the skin or tear the skin.
02:59And sometimes when that the needles are moving too slowly, you risk a snag.
03:03Shallower depths are just fine, done more frequently, that's more cosmetic grade microneedling.
03:09And deeper depths are going to build collagen a little faster.
03:14Medium depths are great, not too deep, not too shallow.
03:18Typically the bonier areas like the forehead, it's more comfortable to go a little shallower.
03:23I'm going to do 0.5 on my forehead and go a little deeper on the meatier areas.
03:28I'll list the depths on the screen as I go.
03:30So I'm going to go ahead and turn it on.
03:32I'm going to go up to a speed of four and I have a setting of 0.5.
03:36We're going to start on the forehead.
03:38Work in sections.
03:39I find that to be easier.
03:41And whether you go in circles or up and down and back and forth, it doesn't really matter.
03:46There's no right or wrong way.
03:48So I'm going to go ahead and apply some of this to the forehead.
03:51And I forgot to put on gloves, you guys.
03:54I've already sanitized my hands, but I do like to wear gloves.
03:58Something to remember is if you bleed a little bit, that's totally okay.
04:02And everybody's a little bit different.
04:04Some people bleed easily, some people don't bleed at all.
04:07All right, I'm going to go over that one more time.
04:09It tends to dry out fairly quickly.
04:12And I like to go back and forth.
04:15Move down.
04:16I'm going to go on this right side of my forehead.
04:28The faster speed does help this to glide a little bit better.
04:35So if you're taking aspirin or fish oils, you might find that you bleed a little bit
04:41more than people who don't.
04:44You can go back and forth a couple of times.
04:48That's really personal preference.
04:49If you're just getting started, you may only want to do that once.
04:55I really want to get this really thoroughly today.
05:00So I'm going to go back and forth and up and down.
05:03Now the redness called erythema is normal.
05:06And again, a little pinpoint bleeding is normal.
05:10Now don't be afraid to go over the eyebrows.
05:13The needling stimulates collagen, but it also can stimulate hair growth.
05:21So you don't need to press hard.
05:23Just gentle pressure and let the needles do the work.
05:27I'm going to saturate my gauze pad a little bit more here.
05:31Now EGF stands for epidermal growth factors.
05:35This is going to help really improve the skin texture, tone, boost collagen, and have the
05:42skin behave a little bit more like it was younger.
05:45Okay, we're going to go over this half here.
05:48The redness gives you a little bit of a roadmap so you know where you started.
05:56I like to go between my brows really well because I have some enlarged pores there.
06:07And if it starts to dry out, make sure you add more solution, more of your EGF serum
06:15or whatever you're using.
06:22So the needling itself, regardless of what you use for serum or skin booster, is going
06:27to boost collagen.
06:30And when done monthly or in regular intervals, you really will notice the difference.
06:37I usually try to shoot for monthly, and if I do it shallow, I can do it every couple
06:41of weeks.
06:42If I go deeper, monthly is enough.
06:52As far as the speed that you move with your hand, adjust according to how it feels.
06:59If you get going too fast, sometimes it can be uncomfortable, so just slow things down.
07:04You want a good result so you don't want to rush through it too much.
07:10Microneedling, in addition to stimulating collagen, will also help the texture of the
07:22skin.
07:23It will improve acne scars, it'll smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and help with hyperpigmentation.
07:31I want to go over the center here a little bit more.
07:40This is one of those treatments for me that has very little downtime.
07:45I'll be red for a day or two, and I usually don't wear makeup for two days.
07:50Some people will go back to makeup right after 24 hours.
07:53I want to go underneath my eyebrows here just a little bit.
07:56I'm going to add a bit more serum.
08:00I'm going to go under the eyebrows, just to tighten up the eyelids there a little bit.
08:11I've noticed a difference doing this on the way my eyelids look, both upper and lower
08:16eyelids.
08:17It definitely tightens them up a bit when you do this regularly, so I try to do it every
08:22month.
08:23I know it's hard to find time to do it when you consider your skin might be a little dry
08:34and red for a day or two.
08:36For me, that healing usually lasts about three days, and then my skin looks great.
08:42So, you don't want to do it down in this eyeball area with the needles, like this thin skin.
08:49Just right above.
08:52And be gentle.
08:53That's very thin, delicate tissue.
09:01Alright, I'm going to go under this eye.
09:03Now, I did a mesotherapy treatment not long ago.
09:07If you want to hear more about that, you can go to GorgeouslyAging.com or Rumble.com.
09:13Just search Gorgeously Aging.
09:16For more specifics on advanced facial rejuvenation...
09:22So, I definitely want to go a little deeper right now.
09:25I'm at 0.5.
09:26I want to go to 0.75.
09:29And just under the eye, I'm not pressing, I'm just letting the needles do the work.
09:34And you can stamp rather than drag, which I find works better right under the eye.
09:41And this will help build much-needed collagen in that delicate under-eye area,
09:46where we tend to get kind of crepiness and wrinkling as we age.
09:51And then also, these crow's feet are a good place to make sure you're thorough with the treatment.
10:00I'm actually going to go a little bit deeper.
10:02I'm going to go 1.0 depth here.
10:06I really want to build collagen under the eyes.
10:12Now, it's not very uncomfortable at all.
10:14There's some vibration and a tiny bit of poking feeling.
10:18I generally leave my lidocaine on for 20 minutes,
10:21but some people like to leave it on for 30 or 40.
10:24Just depends on your preference and your threshold for discomfort.
10:30Microneedling is a very safe treatment to do at home.
10:33Provided you do it correctly.
10:36And if you're not confident with your ability, definitely check into med spa treatments.
10:46It's really quite simple after you get the hang of it.
10:53So the truest benefits come not just from the Skin Booster.
10:57In this case, we're using that Amazon Skin Booster.
11:00In this case, we're using that Amazon EGF formula.
11:03It comes from the needling itself.
11:09I like to use the same gauze to apply because once it's saturated, it's not going to oversaturate.
11:14If you keep using a dry one, it's going to suck up so much of your product.
11:18But that's my personal preference.
11:22Alright, so we're going to go around the cheek area here.
11:26You can see I have a tiny bruise here that's from the under eye mesotherapy treatment.
11:32I like to do those pretty regularly.
11:36It depends, you know, the first three months I do them in a series,
11:39and then I do usually quarterly thereafter.
11:44So here I'm just going along the cheek.
11:47Trying not to go too fast.
11:50Again, I like to go in straight lines instead of circles.
11:54So I go horizontally, and then I like to go vertically.
11:58Just to make sure I'm getting everything.
12:07And again, I'm at the depth of one with a speed of four.
12:16I'm going to go over my nose just very quickly,
12:19but I'm going to bring down that depth because the nose is very bony.
12:22So I'm going to bring the depth down to 0.5.
12:31And I do see improvement on the pores when I do microneedling.
12:37So that is another great benefit to refine the pores.
12:44So just remember, the bonier areas go more shallow.
12:47The meatier areas of your face go more deep.
12:53If you're looking to improve scars, you can go closer to 1.5 to 2.0.
13:00But you can work up to that.
13:03That's definitely much deeper.
13:13Now the upper lip. Also go a little shallower.
13:18Maybe not 0.5. I'm going to go to 0.75.
13:22This will help with those smoker's lines or vertical lip lines that we get as we age.
13:27Sometimes I call it drinking through a straw lines,
13:30because as we drink through a straw, which we should avoid,
13:34but I love drinking through a straw.
13:36When you drink through a straw, you definitely create those lines.
13:42So you Stanley Cup lovers, which I am one too,
13:45and I actually have a Hydro Flask with a straw, which I love,
13:48but I'm trying to avoid drinking out of things with straws.
13:51As I say that, I have mine right here,
13:53but I try to be cognizant of it because it does create wrinkles around the mouth.
13:57Now the upper lip is a little sensitive.
14:01I'm pretty numb at this point.
14:05So I just pressure with some light poking.
14:15I'm going to go over here and I'm going to up the depth.
14:18Again, those meatier areas can take a little bit more depth.
14:21I'm going to go up to 0.175.
14:32This really helps when you're starting to see that texture on your face,
14:36especially if you're perimenopausal or postmenopausal
14:40and you feel like the surface of your skin is a little dry, lackluster,
14:44and you can start to see lines or creepiness.
14:47This, doing it regularly, monthly, even after the first treatment,
14:51you'll see an improvement.
15:18If you have enlarged pores on your chin,
15:21definitely focus on that area a little bit.
15:24Make a few extra passes in those areas you really want to target
15:28and build collagen and refine texture.
15:47I like to drag it down the nasolabial fold.
16:10After about four days, you really start to see that texture.
16:14After about four days, you really start to see the radiance created
16:18by the microneedling as the skin is healing.
16:21I'm going to add more serum here.
16:41You can kind of see where we've been because of the erythema.
16:44You can kind of see where we've been because of the erythema or redness.
16:47This area, we're going to go to the cheek now.
16:53And you can do it in whichever fashion makes sense to you.
16:57I do like to do sections.
17:00Remember, the meatier areas, you're going to go a little deeper if you'd like,
17:05and the bonier areas, a little more shallow.
17:09Speed is key.
17:12Speed really isn't critical.
17:14It's kind of a personal preference,
17:16but the needles do glide better when the speed is faster.
17:19There is no hard and fast rule that you have to do this speed with this depth.
17:25So if anybody tries to tell you that,
17:27they're not being honest or maybe they're just not informed.
17:41If you feel like it's dragging,
17:43make sure you slow down and increase the speed of those needles.
17:53I want to make sure to go over this part of my cheek
17:55where I have a few enlarged pores there.
18:00I think the T-zone is a good area to give some extra attention to.
18:12I tend to rush a little bit,
18:14so it's always a matter of reminding myself to slow down.
18:19Okay...
18:20okay...
18:31I tend to rush a little bit,
18:33so it's always a matter of reminding myself to slow down
18:48And you can use a combination of circular motions and horizontal and vertical.
19:13If you have acne scarring, this is an excellent treatment for that.
19:42I'm going to do some circular motions on my chin.
20:11You can do some stamping as well.
20:21If you drink alcohol, you may notice more bleeding.
20:25When I was a drinker, I did bleed more, and I don't drink now, and I don't bleed nearly
20:31as much, and I actually heal up quite a bit faster.
20:38So I would avoid alcohol during the few days that you're doing the treatment.
20:43You can avoid it a day or two before, and a day or two after, and drink plenty of water.
20:49That's the quickest way to healing.
20:56I'm going to take some more serum and just go over everything.
21:06We really want that serum and that good skin booster to penetrate those little microchannels
21:12that heal up quite quickly.
21:13And if you'd like to know some of my favorite microneedling combinations, head over to GorgeouslyAging.com
21:19slash microneedling.
21:20Now, off camera, I'm going to go down my neck, but I don't want to bore you guys with too
21:24much of that buzzing microneedling.
21:26But you can do the same thing on your neck and chest to improve the skin tone, texture,
21:33improve wrinkles, improve those crepey areas that might be developing on the neck and chest,
21:38and boost collagen, which is so important as we age.
21:41So as far as aftercare, we want to be very careful not to be in the sun when our face
21:45is raw and just treated.
21:47So wearing a sun hat if you have to be outside, using a mineral sunscreen every day is so
21:53important.
21:54And then I like to use Avene Xyclophate, or Avene, I'm not sure how you pronounce that.
22:00And that is this product.
22:01So I'm going to let the Skin Booster absorb completely, we don't wipe it off or rinse
22:05it off, and then go over it with the Avene Xyclophate.
22:09So I'll be right back, and I'll show you how this goes on.
22:12It's very thick like a diaper cream, but it helps to heal the skin so beautifully.
22:17So I'm going to let this absorb for a couple of minutes, and then I'm going to put this
22:21cream on.
22:22Okay, you guys, so I did my neck, and then I applied a really heavy coat of the Avene
22:26Xyclophate.
22:27I thought my camera was running, and it was not, so I missed applying this.
22:32I like to take a really liberal amount, and this is very heavy cream that it really locks
22:35in that Skin Booster and the moisture.
22:38I reapply this every few hours over the next 48 hours.
22:42I use either this or the Bioderma Ultra Nourishing Cream.
22:47This is not quite as thick, it absorbs more quickly, but it isn't as occlusive or locking
22:53in of the moisture as the Avene Xyclophate Plus.
22:56I use both of these, it just depends on how dry my skin is feeling.
23:00And sometimes I'll use this, let it absorb, and top it with this to lock it in.
23:05It's important to be diligent in the first 48 hours after microneedling to keep that
23:09skin moisturized.
23:11You will have some redness, it'll look a little bit like a sunburn, and it'll feel very dry
23:15if you're not putting on lotion regularly.
23:18The more coated with lotion you keep it, the quicker it heals.
23:21Always remember after microneedling treatment to wear sunscreen or sun hats and avoid direct
23:26exposure to the sun.
23:28I like to wait at least 48 hours, if not three full days, to wear makeup.
23:32And when washing the skin, use cool or lukewarm water, avoid hot water, and use a very gentle
23:38cleanser like the CeraVe Cream Cleanser.
23:42Avoid active ingredients on your skin like vitamin C's and retinols, also acids, immediately
23:48after microneedling and for a few days until the skin heals, and then resume your active
23:53skincare ingredients.
23:54Some people will use retinols immediately after microneedling to create kind of a peel
23:59of sorts, but this will prolong the healing process.
24:03I personally don't because I have sensitive skin, and for me, it causes more harm than
24:08good.
24:09Thank you so much for watching and joining me today.
24:10If you like this video, give it a thumbs up, and hit that share button, and text it to
24:14somebody that you think might appreciate learning a little bit more about skincare.
24:18Please be good to yourselves and to others.
24:21I will see you next time.
