00:00Oh
00:10My god
00:12Follow me
00:26Good morning boys and girls. I mean designers welcome to our world of toys FAO Schwartz Christian is waiting for you inside
00:42Oh
00:55Welcome to the iconic FAO shorts
00:59It is time for project runways most feared
01:04Most revered and famed way to torture design the unconventional materials challenge
01:13I'm happy now fun and whimsy are widespread across runways everywhere
01:18Now Tom Brown doing teddy bear top hat and Milan Gucci models
01:22We're sporting gremlin bags and skirts and Moschino just sent models down the runway in full float
01:28Your unconventional materials challenge is to create whimsical runway looks from toys
01:36All the toys you see here, this is a two-day challenge
01:43Yeah, the judges are not gonna want to see a whole dress made out of stuffed animals at the fabric
01:49That's not impressing anybody. You have 45 minutes to shop. Okay, and you each get
01:56$2,000
01:58This challenge is really about creating new textiles and like leaning into your ingenuity what you all can do
02:04Yes now for your models. Okay, grab a bear
02:09Those are your models
02:11Oh
02:15That was who I had back to your spouse back to your spouse back to your spouse
02:19All right designers, you'll have sketch time when you get back to the workroom
02:25Okay
02:37What are you getting
02:40Oh
02:46Again let's go back to season 19. I went home on this challenge, but this time is different though, baby
02:54This is my store. I already know as a kid. I love toys, but growing up in Haiti
03:00I've never really got them people trying to survive. Okay, let's just put it that way
03:04But first time in the United States, my mom was just showing me around and you know
03:08She took me to a few chores. I was still young and I thought it was the most magical place
03:12I would like to buy this little girl's dress. It's probably one of my favorite places in New York
03:20I've always been interested in fashion. I've always been a high-maintenance queen. My favorite thing to do as a kid was dress up
03:26I'm talking like my great-great-grandmother's first with the satin gloves
03:31Like I wanted the good stuff to me whimsy is making sure this thing is fun and playful. Look how cute this is
03:37Is it worth $20 just for the pop? I mean, okay, let's just treat ourselves
03:43Carathon what are you getting? Oh all these little colorful little macaroons
03:48Wow, look at these you cannot be getting I don't need any more of these. You don't know that. I don't know that
03:54That's a lot. You've had so many of these I had five. What if I need seven?
03:59One of the coolest parties that I ever had when I was a kid
04:02I think I was probably like eight years old
04:04My mom bought a bunch of blank teddy bears from the dollar store and then she and a couple friends helped us make our own
04:09Customized teddy bears and it was so cool
04:11I gotta say that was one of the things that really got me going as a designer seeing them work if I've made clothing for
04:16Teddy bears, I'm sure I can make clothing out of teddy bears
04:24I'm getting to how much are they?
04:26Thank you, what are these picking up a lot of little pieces because I want to create my own textile so that's cool
04:32Oh, yeah, those are mine Rami
04:35What are these? Those are?
04:37tight
04:39Tight. Yeah. Oh
04:40Look at Kane ten minutes. If all of you send out plushy teddy bear thingies and umbrella dresses. I'ma lose it
04:50Oh
04:51Have this for my boy at home
04:53When I see all the toys makes me feel I wish my baby were here. I
04:58Kind of draw inspiration from the moments that I had with my baby with this talent
05:03I'm done shopping for the challenge. I'm shopping for my boy now
05:10Do I have a game plan
05:14The one thing that it's not exciting to me is
05:17Unconventional like toys in the real world that unconventional stuff does not exist
05:23So my only game plan is to spend all the money that they give us so I have
05:28options
05:29I'll figure it out. All right designers. You better hurry up. You have four minutes
05:43Get hot in here
05:47Puzzle chaos in line
05:55All right designer that's time that's it you need to be in line checking out
06:12This is gonna be fun
06:17Back again
06:24Animals flying over there vectors. It's like a creepy toy sale. I'm really psyched about these my cool text
06:31My bitch is from the future
06:39So I think I'm going with like a Red Queen look all cards the whole thing I love it
06:47The theme I'm going with is space jam glam a lot of times people here whimsical and go colorful
06:54I want my girl to go the opposite route with a futuristic feel in my head
07:00I see a top with exaggerated shoulders and some beadwork and also a skirt mirror mirror on the wall
07:07Who's the winner of it all?
07:10I feel like the unconventional challenge shows you who you are
07:13It really brings out that creativity in you I got some rates let me do it. Let me know if you don't use these
07:19The outfit I'm trying to make is a short crop jacket made out of the stuffings of a toy piano
07:25With a gaucho kind of pants the one thing I do remember from my childhood is that took piano lessons
07:31My parents wanted us to have culture and learn things when we came to America
07:36So grabbing the piano was actually a homage to my childhood
07:40My parents were really you know sacrificing for me and my siblings I
07:47Have a little love-and-hate relationship with unconventional
07:50It's the unconventional materials challenge if I were a judge I might put you in the bottom
07:54But I don't just be giving up on stuff. I don't I don't do that
07:58I'm going to do unconventional, but I have the right not to like it
08:05Where do the batteries go
08:10I
08:17Am making a chain skirt out of H's and other various things
08:22This is my your jam my jam. I've got this idea for a really cool hip situation
08:29I purchased some children's umbrellas that are gonna make this perfect geometric hip line. That's so modern and couture right now
08:36It's gonna be a door can't wait. I cannot rest on my laurels
08:40I won last week, which is huge, but it's a little crazy that there's no immunity
08:43But this season one minute you can be on top in the next minute. You can be going home
08:48I need to figure out as if I can get these beasts out coming up. Let's go
08:54Stress is real right now. This is quite aggressive
08:58What it's not telling me a story. It's not giving me a clear point of view. I don't know why you did it
09:10Oh
09:15You're killing it
09:27Hi
09:28Hello, sir. How are you? You have a whole dress already draped. Well, I've got big ideas
09:32She's gonna start out and be like a princess. Okay, and so she will reveal the badass Queen bitch
09:38I am making this gorgeous black-and-white strapless mermaid gown with these sculptural hips
09:44And then I am gonna make these panda bears like a fox doll. That's really cool. This is a lot of work
09:50I mean, I'm real fast. I know but I'm gonna push it today. I'm gonna push it real hard figure out what I can do
09:58Mila you got unicorns and I got puzzles
10:02I'm gonna make a skirt and it's gonna be like this fabrication this whole skirt
10:08I'm making this skirt out of beautiful jigsaw puzzle tiles that look like a painting
10:14The inspiration behind this look is magic
10:18What's the top the top is going to be a fur hoodie and then you sure?
10:25Too much. It's not as like
10:28Sophisticated as I feel like your clothes are if this were 13 years ago
10:33I don't think I would have picked plush unicorns. That's my material in season 7
10:39I chose black and white corrugated plastic paint tray liners. That's on-brand with who I am
10:45But you know, there's another side of me that's developed in the last 13 years
10:49That is softer and I think that that's why I want to try something new
10:54If you can make it feel really new and modern, it'll be exciting
11:03Brittany hey, I see your tea party over here. Yes tea party is smashing the mosaic
11:08That's what I thought for like the bodice and kind of make like really intricate make it look like beading and then have the skirt
11:13Just be insect me full
11:15No, you can't just use this fabric the tent
11:19But it just looks like fabric
11:21Like with it or turned or it's in rows and cut up and you've got to show that it's something else in a way
11:29Okay, I will I'll push it. Bye. See ya Fabio
11:33You can't just do a card
11:35That is so easy. You've got to do something to these cards fold them mold them. Maybe they intertwine. That's what I mean
11:43Got it. Wow, maybe a little too dry for me could have used a little lube
11:47But I guess what he's saying makes sense
11:50I'm gonna rethink what's gonna happen with these cards cuz I'm still gonna use the cards
11:53Hi, you have the most stuff I think do I yes
11:57So the idea is to kind of create a collage on a fitted dress you've got dragon
12:02I do I got dragon and then I have these from the kites as well
12:09Growing up in
12:11Palestine kites for me were a sign of like joy and hope
12:15When you look at a kite, you always have your head up high and you're looking up to the sky as a kid who lost
12:21their mother at the age of five
12:24living under military aggression and curfews and dark times really for me
12:30Symbolic of keeping your head up and and looking for the brighter side of things. I may use them
12:36Almost like a sleeve detail if you need it like edit yourself a little bit. Yeah, can't wait to see me too
12:49All right, let's go these are just heads this is quite aggressive it is I am I'm gonna use them
12:57Is that what we're doing?
12:59Maybe no, you're not. Let me show you the sketch because I think
13:05What
13:09My idea is to make a trench coat I wanted to do a version of that but whimsical
13:15I want to bring like the campiness a little bit. Mm-hmm. What's the rest?
13:19Originally, I wanted to use these. Okay. What are these a little boomerang? Yeah, they're boomerangs. They like yeah
13:24No, you have to go like this. Why? Oh, you have to go straight. Let me do it
13:29like that
13:33Yeah, me too, so I think this is your chance can't be but still really cool fashion
13:38I think that is gonna excite them. Okay. Yes. No, good luck. Thank you
13:49Yeah, I'm coming to you because that's looking fabulous, thank you, what are you making I am thinking about making a raincoat
13:56Everything
13:58I'm trying to marry the toy with my style. So that's why I decided to go with a hood
14:05This is a teddy bear. I'm using a wooden pepperoni pizza pepper. Oh sure. Yeah, so I had to drill holes in it
14:13Yeah, what can be the base sure mix with some other stuff, but I haven't figured out the whole thing
14:19Could it be this I don't want it to look all like this. Hmm cuz that's very innovative. Very cool
14:25I don't know yet growing up. Did you like toys or play with toys?
14:29Growing up. I was a tomboy and plus I have ten siblings. So Wow
14:33You get a toy in the house the last two days and there's no more. Yeah, never again. We didn't really need toys
14:39Use your ten people to pick on. Yeah
14:43Absolutely
14:47Be a noisy runway I know that
14:50Like
14:54Hello, hi, sir, how are you? I'm
14:57Stuff everywhere finding yourself here. Yeah, where I'm from. There's no such thing as whimsical
15:02So when Haiti, we don't have fairy tales. It's reality if you want fairy dust and I'm the wrong guy
15:09But there's no way there's joy on the art music. Yes. My mind went street wear
15:15Cool so I took a bunch of pianos which are over there my version of whimsical would be you know
15:20What makes us happy which is a culture of music of food to art?
15:23I am going to make her pants out of these the painting fabulous amazing. Come back to my office
15:30Okay, the chair is gonna be one of the sleeves. The chair is one of the sleeves
15:34Oh and the baby blanket is the other sleeve
15:37They're putting so much stuff. This is very graphic and cool
15:42Maybe the chair will be dead. Yeah, and then we just use this for the baby. See how we work
15:50There you go, I get out of my house
15:58I think I have a really good idea. Yeah, I'm gonna use this in my skirt
16:01Mm-hmm, I'm gonna cut these into like little strips and collect them and just make it like cotton candy. Mm-hmm
16:07When you have only like three obviously it doesn't look like when that whole thing. Oh, no, I know what you mean what?
16:17Stress is real ain't it? There's no joy over here. Okay. What about the Wanda?
16:30I need my emotional support
16:32Here you go the last one well the last one who's not taking apart in a strange way
16:38Coming up Brittany. What did any other little piggies go to the market? What did any other little piggies go to the market?
16:45You said what damn?
17:03I
17:07Reworked my my top
17:09Like after Christian's critique of it, and I want it to feel kind of magical but still feel like ready to wear
17:14How are you guys feeling though? Do you think you're gonna be ready at the model fittings to fit something?
17:18No, no, you should be ready to go on the runway. Yeah, that's it
17:23I'm ready to get started like to get better because I feel like today's gonna go by really fast
17:33Let's hop to it. Oh
17:37My god y'all this room needs Jesus it needs more than that so much stuff everywhere
17:43The fingers are burning
17:46Fabio and Brittany seem a little stressed
17:48They were going glue gun hard which to me is usually not a unconventional win, but they have committed
17:53I think a truly good unconventional look doesn't need a glue gun here look cuz I'm really proud of this. I want it
18:00I'm gonna do a proper like a waistband. Oh, I think it's gonna be a perfect length
18:04I can do the elastic like pretty much the size of her waist when she put it on you will see the last exactly
18:09Problem-solving on steroids. That's what project runway is
18:18Do you think this looks okay this texture like I want to make the whole body like this
18:24Because if you get half done and then only half is done and you run out you're screwed
18:29I'm gonna have to whore myself around to find enough. Yeah to complete the look
18:34It's my mission to find as many boomerangs as I can. Do you have this color? Not that color on this?
18:40Yeah, I would love them. Thank you
18:44It's a little bit of a suspense for me because I
18:47Don't know if I'm gonna get them in my hand if Kato could just give me half of her yellow wheels
18:53I will have more than enough. Yeah
18:59Victor are you using those little piggies or no? No, I'm so I can have them for sure. Oh, okay, Brittany
19:06Did any other little piggies go to the market? What did any other little piggies go to the market?
19:11Oh, yeah, all of them are going to the market
19:12We're all going to the market
19:14My girl's gonna be a little late cuz she's gonna have to come from the future to meet up with you
19:18So what my girl damn?
19:23That's gonna be in commercials next on project
19:30I
19:32Everybody
19:37Everyone feeling whimsical
19:41Who wants a model me you need
19:45Here they come
19:47I
19:56Wanted to be like fun
19:58People yeah, so all this is from like inside of a piano
20:02Right since we're coming off a win. We got a we got a really bring it
20:09Let's try this on first it's gonna be a little cold honey. Have you seen inside?
20:14Oh
20:16It's all gonna be cards
20:18The placement is perfect. Oh my god. This is perfect
20:22What?
20:23If you walk it's feel better
20:27Better right? Okay, cool. Cool
20:30What is this this is the back from the piano
20:35And she will have a hat and also a baby swimming flow and a pacifier
20:41What uh-huh, why yeah, that's she's a baby. Yes, really. Mm-hmm. Oh
20:49My god, that's my baby's the moment
20:53Okay, yes
20:56Why are you crying no, this is not crying
21:02Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, okay, and let's talk about a few things real quick
21:11Okay, this gray dress
21:14You can't show that it's it's a wrinkled mess. So they'll tear you apart
21:26This gray dress
21:29You can't show that it's a wrinkled mess
21:33You are dark and sexy and glamorous. Those are your clothes and avant-garde and that's what you should do here. Okay. Thank you
21:42I
21:44Got a painted
21:46Tape it. You're gonna have a little red cross for a jacket that you can do a reveal and throw on the ground
21:51Okay, and this will have the hood and then I do still want to add this to my skirt, too
21:56That's dope, but you can't see
21:59You have to see
22:01I just love it. Thank you
22:06All right designers tomorrow it's runway day love it happens quick good luck. I'll see you tomorrow
22:12Bye. Bye guys
22:16Kind of want this for myself
22:18Okay, let's go
22:23What are you using now a dress with the texture on it nice
22:28Ruffles definitely I
22:30Changed my design immediately. I'm adding ruffle texture on top of the body to bring some fairy-tale kind of
22:37Energy better work on it and I look there's no toys there at all
22:45How's it going
22:50Leather almost because it is it's rubber
22:54You
22:59Drive enough. I really need to cut toes at this point
23:02I don't have enough yellow boomerangs Kato has some boomerangs, but I don't know if I'm gonna get them in my hand
23:10When we were in all-stars previously
23:12Kato and I were very competitive against each other and it wasn't a good feeling
23:17Kato is love you could call it a curtain. Where's the design?
23:22Oh, you didn't think I was gonna win I
23:25Am in big trouble. I don't have enough to go all the way up. So at this point, I'm kind of counting only on Kato
23:32Maybe if she doesn't use them, maybe I'll use hers
23:36Sure, I didn't want to like
23:40Thank you, I'm gonna give you these thank you last time. I think I was probably a little too
23:45Competitive, you know what I mean? Yeah, I was definitely immature and I'm sorry
23:49I after that season I left home
23:53And I thought of you a lot. Mm-hmm. I had to like air that out eventually
23:58It takes a lot for anyone to admit when they're in the wrong much respect to him for just saying. Sorry. I
24:05Appreciate that Victor. Look at this healing energy. We got in this room right now
24:10Bring the wonder bring the whimsy
24:14I'm stressed. Why are you stressed the back looks so cool. I
24:23Haven't heard I have shoulders. I just got to put a body on it if it took me that long to do that piece
24:30I'm just gonna come up with something else for the body quickly. I have this piano
24:35Classy fabric that I'm gonna use as a base, but it's simple math equations
24:39Am I being realistic and am I gonna have enough time to finish you guys ten minutes left
24:48We're going he's gonna go and spray it come on, baby
24:53Don't the mosaic
24:57This ain't the jam right now
25:01With three minutes left in the workroom you figure out a way to make things
25:07Burn your finger faster one last time for the road
25:13All right, everybody it's time we have so much
25:23Oh my god, it's magneted to me
25:26Oh
25:33The night before the runway of the unconventional materials in every single season is always a really really hard night
25:39So the fact that we get to go to a wine bar
25:42Decompress with each other. It's so needed. Oh, it's toasty in here
25:56It's
25:59Very emotional
26:02But it is so nice to see his face he see his smile I just want to enjoy every second
26:12Are you nervous you think we're gonna have enough time to finish everything? No, I don't really get nervous but
26:19How about you
26:21Me I'm trying to make this fabulous coat
26:25Thank you, and just hoping that you know, I'll have enough time to finish everything by tomorrow
26:47Coming up your mom has to be dressed in like eight minutes
26:51No immunity
26:53What I want to know from you is why not try?
26:57I
27:24Still have to make a talk
27:26My intention is to embrace the organic aspect of it kind of freestyle it on the mannequin
27:32But now I'm realizing that
27:34There is just no time for troubleshooting
27:40Have to be so careful like every time you turn something because it's all paper and plastic for the shoulder ruffle detail
27:46I'm going to make it look modern and fresh by making it off-shoulder. It's not covered up
27:51It's revealing and it's sexy and fun and young
27:57Hi everybody
28:04Gather around for me. I'm gonna take a minute to remind you all what we're playing for here the grand prize
28:11Quarter of a million dollars supplied by pilot friction erasable pens, but you guys have been using for sketching and erasing
28:19Right a feature in Elle magazine
28:21And
28:23A career-changing mentorship with the CFDA
28:29Also, we added in six months of representation from agentry PR
28:35I've had the opportunity to have PR in the past. It's extensive
28:39I'm glad I don't have to take it out of my 250 cuz yeah, I'm gonna win. So carry that nine girl carry that nine
28:45All right designers. Here come the models
28:51I
29:08Got a lot of work to do
29:13Okay, what we're gonna do we're going to join them
29:17Next to bed just like that Wow
29:21We need a little
29:23Something I'm spray-painting the panda's eyes
29:25This is what I've got to do to really get this like villain aspect across like that is the whimsical part of my story
29:33Carousel, yeah, I've got this whole movie written for my character. Okay? Okay. She's the queen of the pandas. Guess what? Her name is what?
29:41pandemonium
29:42Are we ready?
29:44To
29:48Finish this look I have to use closures from a wooden toy to act as buttons
29:54I guess on the garments. I'm doing my best. I am doing my best
30:05All right designers when you're ready take your model to the Bobby Brown makeup studio and the trust me hair salon
30:14Make it flat as possible. I don't even matter. I would love some iridescence in her face like around her eyes
30:25We are doing something very like girly I would go glam
30:30Okay, we're gonna go into a little bit of a deeper liner
30:34Mila look how much lining is coming through
30:37Walk DeeDee show her I
30:41I mean, I knew it was gonna come through somewhat. I mean if you love it
30:50Kane yep, your model has to be dressed in like eight minutes. Yes, sir. She hasn't even tried it on
30:58No immunity. Oh, trust me. I know just saying
31:01I
31:04Sir does that little thing come off? Yes, it snaps off and she can toss it. I don't know if it's so whimsical
31:10It's kind of dark dark. There's dark whimsy
31:19This ruffle is very time-consuming there's no time to think even for a second. My body is shutting down
31:27Okay, if you don't put her in this in a minute, I'm gonna be mad be just in time Christian
31:42So it's down to the wire I've got like two minutes to finish the entire mermaid hem of the dress
31:46I'm literally cutting around this hem so fast
31:50All right, let's go. We're leaving
31:52I
32:16Have seen it all when it comes to unconventional materials in this challenge
32:21So I really hope you guys brought your Wow factor. There's some Wow
32:25Yeah, this is where you really know in my mind who's technically the greatest. So this is always really fun to watch and I'm excited
32:33Please meet your guest judge
32:36CEO and founder of global fashion brand Alice and Olivia
32:42designer Stacey Bendet
32:45Oh
32:46My goodness, everyone knows of Alice and Olivia. They have gorgeous women's clothing
32:51It's a huge brand and Brittany wears a ton of it
32:53So excited to be judging this challenge because I love all things whimsy
32:59We can't wait to see how you brought these toys to life. Let's start the show
33:15I
33:17Model looks so good in my designs the hi-hats look a little bit different. I cannot I'm upset
33:26It's really cool to see something that is colorful that I never usually do that much like what even are those things
33:32I was trying to figure that out the initial design
33:34I wanted to be more overlaid on top of each other, but I think it's looking good
33:44Unconventional is a very tough challenge to see a completed look coming down this runway that actually speaks to whimsy
33:51But at the same time is a fashion-forward shape. I
33:56Feel like I hit all of the marks with this I
34:03Am super happy about it it could have gone wrong so many ways
34:06I
34:12Look walked on the runway. I died and went to unconventional heaven
34:21From not having any toys as a kid to creating my own is bringing me so much joy
34:37I think I really did an excellent unconventional. Look everything is good. Magnets are staying in place toys are secured
34:48Not a stitch of it is expected and it also comes together like an actual wearable garment. I am just loving how it turned out
35:07It is very hard to sell this material, but I'm glad I took the risk because it paid off I
35:17Think is a very strong design very strong vision. I just hope the judges can understand. This is my whimsy
35:24I
35:33Look it's completely finished. I love the way it's moving and walking. It's totally wearable
35:39It's so fun, I love it. I think I did a great job
35:42I love the fact that it's completed with a zipper and not sewn in or glued on. I'm really happy with it
35:48I'm really proud of myself. I have no concern
35:51It's a roller coaster
35:55I
36:02Everyone went in a colorful direction. I wanted to be opposite and gone a dark whimsical direction
36:10The wings are winging and I love that. I'm pushing it with the textures that I've created
36:18I'm feeling pretty whimsical about my look. She looks like she just came from the future
36:24Shoulders I love it. I'm aware that I
36:37Literally could just like cry right now. The dress is perfect
36:45You would never know that that is shredded tent and teacup
36:51I'm pleased
36:54I
37:00This look could probably be in one of my movies for sure now that I know that sewing is like riding a bike
37:09You were back in it you can do it. This is just the tip of what I can create. I like the dog back
37:16I mean iconic
37:18I'm just so happy
37:25I'm not gonna sit here and tell you. Oh my god. This was the best thing I've ever done in my life
37:30It's not but I'm okay with it. I'm not mad at it and I'm not in love with it. I'm just hoping to say
37:38It is me but it's not
37:46I see a lot of different colors that are interesting. I see the flowers that's moving around
37:52I mean, I don't use plastic to make dresses
37:57But I think creating a textile that thought process does represent me because it's about having a unique approach in the
38:05Creative part of something that kind of gives me a unique angle as a designer in this competition. I
38:15Like the way my skirt has movement feels whimsical
38:19I
38:21Am proud of my fabrication
38:26Given more time I could have executed this look better. I was trying to color outside the line
38:38We've got the drama of the cape the hood
38:41This girl is about to allure you to get what she wants about to have a reveal and you and I can feel it
38:47Here it comes
38:50Oh, that's cute
38:53And it's a fashion show so I've got to create some drama and some special moments on that runway I
38:59Also kind of even want the designers to be a little surprised
39:04Definitely a whimsical moment. This is the best unconventional challenge we've ever had for sure
39:09You
39:13Designers what a fantastic show it's like FAO iconic
39:21You all delivered one of you will be the winner and one of you will be out
39:34We've scored your designs
39:37Fabio
39:39Carousel
39:41Hester Anna
39:43Bishme and Coteau
39:46You are all in
39:50Congratulations, thank you
39:52She did sing my name, right?
39:57We can breathe yeah
40:00Okay, here we are
40:05The seven of you had the highest and the lowest scores
40:10One of you will be the winner and one of you will be out
40:15All right, we're gonna start with one of our favorite looks of the night. Let's bring out the model
40:20All
40:25Right project
40:27You went home during the unconventional materials challenge last time and now how are you feeling?
40:33When I first came to this country, the first place I went was a food choice and I was
40:37Blown my mind growing up as a kid. I never really had much toys to play with
40:41So in my head, I wanted to create my own kind of toy rock star it girl
40:47So that's why I went with the base is a piano
40:50This is the baby floor toy
40:53And then of course, I had to go and create an entire painting over that and turn this into a puffer
40:58Wait, did you use the actual material? Yes, that's very impressive. Then then you can take it off. I
41:05Love it. I absolutely loved it. Thank you. It's cool. It's giving street style street wear, which is what you're all about
41:12I hope you feel proud of yourself
41:14This is a full circle moment knowing that this was the first store that you ever visited when you came to New York and I
41:19Think this is what this challenge is all about. So I'm really really impressed. Thank you project Jessica. You can leave the runway
41:28Shall we go for another one of our highest scores of the evening? Let's get the model out here
41:33I
41:41Came hello tell us about your look
41:43So I always thought about my favorite Disney movies where there's always an evil villain that disguises herself as someone sweet
41:51You have the evil Queen pandemonium. I wanted to do something really modern and sculptural
41:57So I also use the piano but I cut and sewed all of these chevron strips
42:01I loved it as soon as it came out
42:03That's a very hard material to work with the way that they met up just so perfectly
42:08I think that you really delivered on that
42:10To create something this fitted and this, you know, sort of beautifully constructed out of those materials
42:16It's not easy the humor of the pandas of the bleeding eyes
42:21I thought that was full of joy and I thought it was incredibly creative
42:26The bleeding panda filled you with joy
42:32Thank You Kane, okay next we're gonna look at one of our lowest scores of the night. Let's get the model out here
42:45Mila tell us about your look for the top. I used about eight
42:50unicorns and
42:52Gutted them and I decided I wanted to use a jigsaw puzzle to make a skirt. So I linked all the pieces together
42:58I love the fact that this had a wonderful movement my
43:03Problem with this outfit. It's not telling me a story. It's not giving me a clear point of view. I don't know why you did it
43:10What was the point of view fantasy and magic? It sounds big and it looks big. I
43:17Understand there were elements that I like about this. I like that you put it with a chunky sneaker. I like the colorful bobble
43:24Bracelet, it looks like you just didn't finish it
43:27And then you grabbed a bunch of things from the accessories wall to try to make it look like something
43:31I think it was that this process was quite time-consuming
43:33I had this very clear vision of what I wanted for the skirt and I I would have liked for it to be fuller
43:39Thank You Mila
43:41Okay, we'll get another one of our lowest scores of the evening
43:46I
43:51Took the the kite and I wanted to create a color story from
43:56This first one that I saw which was a butterfly shape of a kite
44:03Yeah, it's a childhood memory so it's like it's a deep for me but
44:11It's okay take your time
44:16I would see the kites like flying outside in the in the sky and I
44:21Would see all the colors out there and it was mesmerizing. I thought it was beautiful
44:25You know, I love the splash of color in the middle of the sky. So that was my inspiration. I love the concept
44:32I just think the construction of the dress fell short. It felt noisy both literally and
44:39metaphorically, I
44:41Probably could have edited
44:42Somewhat. Do you feel that it did not succeed or did you feel that when you sent it out on the runway that it was successful?
44:48I will stand now and honestly say I do love the color story. Yeah
44:52Thank You Rami lyrics you can leave the runway
44:58Okay, the next look was one of our highest scores let's get the model out here
45:03I
45:14Tell us about your look the bodice is tea kettles
45:18Tea plates and teacups. It's really beautiful. This took most of my time
45:23This is like 20 full panels on the tent
45:27Just the fact that you were able to create that number of ruffles and construct such a beautiful skirt in that time is amazing
45:34It definitely provides whimsy when I saw it. I kind of smiled. I really was very impressed with your ruching technique
45:42Thank you. You had a strong point of view
45:45Good job. Thanks, Brittany
45:47Hey, darling
45:49Let's move on to one of our highest scores of the evening
45:57Victor
46:00How are you feeling? Oh my god, I'm like sweating
46:04Everywhere. Tell us about your look. I really wanted to use this as a faux fur moment and the heads of the dinosaurs
46:11I really wanted you guys to see where it came from. And then I love these these boomerangs
46:19Those were like
46:21Spoons this is so
46:24Fantastic. I was looking at this
46:27Trying to find a toy. The complete thought is so
46:30Elevated and so she it's beautiful. I just hope you know that it's flawless. Oh, thank you. Thank you so much
46:37I mean you were able to take these stuffed dinosaurs and create a
46:42Shoulder and a structure and a coat that looks like it could be on a Paris runway really great job. Thank you so much
46:48My birdie you can leave the runway
46:51Okay, next we have one of our lowest scores of the night should we get the model out here
47:02Laurence yes. Tell us about your look. I use some boomerangs for grommets
47:11This is part of a piano and some wooden
47:14Pizza from a pizza box. Well, I do know you're a very good tailor
47:18What I want to know from you is why not try
47:26Because no I did try but did you I don't know
47:37Why not try
47:42Because no I did try
47:45But did you I don't know whimsical is not really part of my vocabulary
47:53Why did you want to come back to project runway, I think I grew in the last six years I've been on the show and
48:00Just to show you what I've been doing
48:02What would you say the story of this look was for you? I didn't really have a story as
48:08I'm getting to know you for the first time. I'd love to
48:11To have your work tell me something about you even if the challenge takes you outside of your comfort zone. I
48:18Know you're a good designer. I
48:21See sort of where you were trying to do a suede leather. I don't know but this was surprising. Yeah
48:30Thank You Laurence. Thank you. Maybe you can leave the runway
48:34Thank you
48:36Thank You designers we have a lot to discuss you can leave the runway
48:41You
48:43Bring it in
48:46This blew my mind they made all of those looks with toys toys
48:52Wonderful. It really was the entire show and display of creativity was so impressive
48:59It doesn't bring me joy, but we have to come to this every single time. We must choose someone to go home
49:04What do you think Nina?
49:06Well Rami, I didn't think his was the worst one
49:10It was the bottom half of his work that did not feel okay. It was ill-fitting
49:14It was really stiff on the bottom
49:16Yeah
49:16I'm willing to fight for him to see another day because of his conviction and his story and his passion
49:22There was a lot of thought that went into it
49:23It just wasn't executed as wonderfully as it could have been 100% Rami's look was completely finished
49:31We may not have all loved it, but Mila
49:35Laurence there was like a shoulder that was done or a breastplate that was done and everything else was like
49:40Let's just Hail Mary and see what happens, right? I was surprised at Laurence attitude about her project
49:46I couldn't tell that she wanted to even be here
49:49Sometimes you will meet people in the fashion business that have that attitude. It is part of fashion
49:54What counts is your skill set and the thing is the look was kind of crickets, too
49:59It's great. What was going on in the back, but you know, the runway is facing forward
50:03It was pretty bad. It was pretty bad
50:05And you know was also bad Mila the jigsaw puzzle half-finished skirt with the lining hanging out
50:11It lacked a story and whimsy. There was no
50:15Clear point of view and the ripped teddy bear top. I can't be positive about that. They both were not great
50:23I'm really torn
50:26All right, we all agree who's going home tonight
50:29Yes, let's talk about our favorites
50:31I loved how Brittany was able to construct a skirt that looked almost
50:37Couture turning pieces of a kid's tent into ruffles
50:41I feel like the mosaic bodice just was really beautifully executed
50:46It's impressive all the materials that she used she did build all of those on top of muslin
50:50Which I think is just an easy way out. There's too many superstars up here for her to play it safe
50:55I totally agree. Let's talk about Cain. I really appreciated the construction of that dress the way
51:02He used the umbrella pieces on the side and created that structure out of really unconventional materials, but it wasn't my favorite outfit
51:09I thought it was fun. I thought it delivered on technique showmanship on
51:14Storytelling is Cain number one on my list
51:18No, you really though sold it to me. I mean you were the real estate agent that I was I was taking out
51:26I was imagining you walking up the escalator to L with the bleeding pandas and the cave
51:32You know what? I mean? I had the whole vision in my mind. I still think it's wonderful
51:36I just have another favorite. I think if we're talking about which outfit was the most creative. I'm really torn between
51:44Two outfits Victor and proje. I know it was pretty equal. It's really tough
51:50Victor's look is very Moschino proje. His look is very Louis Vuitton right now. Like they both felt like they could be on the runway. I
51:59Really fell in love with proje story
52:02To make pants in such unconventional materials fit that well with a challenge
52:08He understands that his art is where it is and he knows how to apply it. But also
52:15Victor felt very much him too. So that's why it's such a hard decision
52:17I don't even know how he constructed those dinosaur shoulders. You could really see his expert tailoring capabilities
52:25He just chose the loudest most ridiculous things that if those weren't perfectly lined up it would have been a total failure
52:31It's really hard. They were both so good
52:35So do we all agree on a winner yes, yeah
52:41Okay, let's get them back out here
52:48You welcome back to the runway
52:52Kane
52:54Brittany Victor and proje. You all showed us whimsy in a way that brought us so much joy
53:01I don't think any of us have smiled so much looking at
53:04And you should all be really proud. Thank you
53:08Kane and Brittany
53:11You are both in congratulations you to our Southern Bells
53:17Sashay off the runway as Brandon said
53:23The winner of tonight's challenge brought a huge smile to all of our faces the look
53:29Transcended the materials it was made of and delivered full-on couture. The winner is
53:39Victor
53:40Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. How's it feel Victor? I just want to say thank you so much for your advice less
53:47Challenge, it means a lot because I want to learn and I also want to better myself. We were all impressed truly commendable
53:54Congratulations, you deserve this one. Thank you and Victor. You also win a prize
53:59What the favorite toys of any designer an industrial sewing machine an industrial serger?
54:06a full-on singer suite of toys, oh my
54:12Thank you
54:14Oh my god, thank you
54:16You have earned it project. You are also in and a special congratulations to both of you for really really executing against
54:24We loved your outfit. It was so special and so creative. Thank you. Well done
54:30You
54:34Know girl Victor
54:44Mila Laurence and Rami
54:48Unfortunately unconventional materials were not your friend tonight and you all missed the mark for different reasons
54:55Rami
54:58You are in thank you, you may leave the runway
55:09For such a fun challenge, this is the part that's not fun for any of us
55:13One of you will be in and one of you will be out
55:18Laurence we didn't see you in this design and ultimately it just felt uninspired
55:24Mila
55:27Your skirt and top lacked a point of view and ultimately just didn't feel finished in the end
55:33Both of you are very talented designers, and that's why you're here right now
55:37So, please know this was very difficult for all of us, but one of you has to go home tonight
55:48Laurence
55:51You are in
55:54Thank you
55:56Thank you for giving me a second chance, please. Please show us who you are. Oh, thank you so much
56:07Mila I'm so sorry, but that means unfortunately tonight you are out
56:13Mila it was great to see you. I'm sorry. This did not work out
56:17I wish I could have given you a chance to see me get back on track
56:20Thank You Mila for being here you may leave the runway, thanks for the experience
56:25Leaving the runway feels really surreal. I really did think that I was going to be safe
56:31I had a concept and I had a passion for it
56:39It just feels too early to go
