00:00:01Welcome back to the runway.
00:00:03Congratulations for making it to the final three.
00:00:07I'm giving each of you $8,000 and you'll have five months at home to design a 12-piece collection
00:00:13that will be shown at Olympus Fashion Week here in New York.
00:00:20All of the most important people in the fashion industry will be sitting front row watching your work.
00:00:26Let's bring out the models.
00:00:31Congratulations, girls, for making it this far.
00:00:34But as you can see, there's four of you and only three designers.
00:00:39The model who is associated with the winning designer will get the fashion spread in Elle magazine.
00:00:45Wendy, you won the last challenge. You have the first pick. Who do you choose?
00:00:49Thank you. I choose Melissa.
00:00:53I am now one of the last three models and I'm going to be in front row.
00:00:57I'm now one of the last three models and I'm going to be in fashion week.
00:01:01And I'm by Wendy's side, so I'm really excited.
00:01:06It's Jay.
00:01:11Alrighty. Carousel.
00:01:13And I have to say, I've worked with both Martinique and Jenny, and you're both amazing walkers.
00:01:18And she said, we'll put Jenny for the last four challenges, and she really did a great job for me.
00:01:24And so I'm going to have to go with Jenny.
00:01:28Sorry.
00:01:30It's okay.
00:01:31That means you're out.
00:01:33Bye.
00:01:34Auf Wiedersehen.
00:01:35Bye.
00:01:36Bye.
00:01:37It is what it is. That's all I've been saying this whole time, and I'm going to keep saying it is what it is.
00:01:42And you take from it what you may.
00:01:44And I think that, like, I've done my job, and if my job is done, then it's time for me to go.
00:01:49Okay. Good luck, and I'll see you on the runway.
00:01:52Bye.
00:01:53Bye.
00:01:54Bye.
00:01:58The Project Runway experience has refueled my love for fashion.
00:02:04I'm so inspired.
00:02:06Going through nine challenges and, like, doing decent, and never winning, never losing.
00:02:11Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
00:02:13But I might be the bride at the Bryant Park show.
00:02:16And I want to win this thing.
00:02:19When I came to try out for Project Runway, I just sort of assumed that you had to be formally trained in this field.
00:02:25And I'm an example that you don't.
00:02:28You know, I came in almost last in a lot of challenges.
00:02:32It's just really sweet to know that the two times I pulled it out were the two really good times to do it.
00:02:39Because I got the Banana Republic challenge, and my dress is going to be worn to the Grammys.
00:02:44Wendy, Nancy O'Dell did pick your dress to wear to the Grammys.
00:02:48If I win, this will change my life forever.
00:02:53I'm excited that I came here, and, you know, I just wanted to rely on my creativity and my talent to get me to the final three.
00:03:01And that's what I did.
00:03:03And that, you know, I was just able to do it in the way that I wanted to, without sort of playing any tricks or games or stabbing anyone in the back.
00:03:10I'm proud that, you know, I had four wins.
00:03:13The winner of the silent auction, you're the winner of the wedding dress challenge.
00:03:17You have won this week's challenge.
00:03:19Karazhan, you have won again.
00:03:21This is what designers, you know, dream about.
00:03:24I'm going to put everything that I've ever learned in my life into it.
00:03:29I cannot wait to get to Fashion Week.
00:03:31I can't wait to get to Fashion Week.
00:03:41I'll see you soon.
00:03:42Bye-bye.
00:03:43Bye.
00:03:44Bye, Wendy.
00:03:46Bye.
00:03:47Bye.
00:03:48Bye, Heidi.
00:03:49Bye.
00:03:50I'll meet her winners next week.
00:03:51I'll see you at Bryant Park.
00:03:53Bye.
00:04:04I'm traveling to check on the various collections of our three finalists.
00:04:08I'm looking forward to seeing what they're able to do with months to work on their designs,
00:04:12as opposed to the two days they often have during the challenges.
00:04:17Right now, we're in Lehman, Pennsylvania.
00:04:19This is the town that I grew up in, and I am the youngest of six children.
00:04:26We're country people.
00:04:27We're doing country things.
00:04:29I'm going to get you, Tim Gunn.
00:04:31Don't shoot.
00:04:32It's Project Runway calling.
00:04:33Hello.
00:04:34How are you?
00:04:35I'm great.
00:04:36Good to see you.
00:04:37Well, here it is, Tim.
00:04:38Wow.
00:04:39This is it.
00:04:40This is where all the magic happens.
00:04:41I don't know if it's magic, but it's where something happens.
00:04:44The Grom's studio.
00:04:45This is wonderful.
00:04:47Yeah.
00:04:48I don't normally stand in my studio with a gun, but...
00:04:50Well, you didn't know who I was when we were in your driveway.
00:04:52No, I didn't.
00:04:53I was like, who's on my property?
00:04:55You're beautifully organized.
00:04:56Well, I try to keep it color-coded so I know what's going on.
00:05:00So, let me give you a tour.
00:05:02Here's the kitchen.
00:05:04Let me put my gun down.
00:05:05It's not loaded, I hope.
00:05:06Actually, it might be.
00:05:07Do you like my wig?
00:05:09That's not your hair?
00:05:10No, no, no, no.
00:05:11It's my...
00:05:12I was just thinking...
00:05:13I thought you were growing it and coloring it.
00:05:14Yeah.
00:05:15Right now, in the process of putting my collection together,
00:05:17I'm about halfway through.
00:05:19I'm getting very nervous and excited about completing my collection.
00:05:23Up until about a couple weeks ago, I felt on track.
00:05:26Now, I kind of feel off track a little bit.
00:05:28You'll pick it up.
00:05:29Just because of the holidays, but...
00:05:30You'll pick it up.
00:05:31January, I'm locking all the doors, and I'm not leaving.
00:05:34I have every confidence.
00:05:35You're going to take me on a tour of the community?
00:05:37Yeah, we're going to take a tour of the town,
00:05:39and it should take about four to ten seconds.
00:05:42Stop.
00:05:43So, this is about it, Tim.
00:05:44Small Town America.
00:05:47It's where I live.
00:05:49Feeling...
00:05:50Here is the yard where all my dad's concrete pieces are.
00:05:54My dad started a concrete company in the 60s,
00:05:59and he makes septic tanks for sewage,
00:06:02and every time you take a poopie, think of us.
00:06:05And he designed all the forms that these get built into.
00:06:10And your mother designed the shapes and the actual pieces.
00:06:12Yeah, the forms.
00:06:13This is where you get your own abilities from.
00:06:15It's true.
00:06:16It's in the genes.
00:06:17And my mother did needlepoint,
00:06:18so somewhere in the middle came fashion.
00:06:20Came Jay McCarroll.
00:06:21Yeah, it's true.
00:06:22How did, you know, the craziness that is Jay
00:06:25come out of a small, normal American town like this?
00:06:28And the answer is, I don't know.
00:06:33All I can think of is that I'm the youngest of six,
00:06:36so I got all the kind of weird, leftover parts to make a human.
00:06:42Hello.
00:06:44Tim, this is my mother.
00:06:46I'm delighted to meet you.
00:06:47This is Tim Gunn from television.
00:06:49And here's my sister, Janet.
00:06:50Hi, Janet. So nice to meet you.
00:06:52And my niece, Molly.
00:06:53Hi, Molly. How are you?
00:06:55She's being shy.
00:06:56This is weird, isn't it?
00:06:58I hope he gets a job out of this.
00:07:01Tell him about how he used to wear costumes
00:07:03in the front yard with the band.
00:07:05That's how he got started sewing.
00:07:06I was making flights for the band,
00:07:08and he said, show me how to use a sewing machine,
00:07:10and I've been sewing ever since.
00:07:12Ever since he'd been a little boy,
00:07:13we knew he'd eventually end up doing something with his life.
00:07:16I think he'll go far.
00:07:17People were mean to me growing up, you know,
00:07:19and if you're artistic and you're, you know,
00:07:21experimenting at age 14 or 16,
00:07:24people want to call you names and try to hit you.
00:07:27But he set a trend because shortly thereafter,
00:07:30everyone else had the same thing,
00:07:31so you were always the trendsetter.
00:07:33I marched to the beat of my own drum.
00:07:37This process for me has been a huge confidence booster.
00:07:40You know, like, you are a valid designer, you know,
00:07:43competing against these other people.
00:07:44What if I was to win Project Runway?
00:07:47You were going to get liposuction
00:07:49and get the heck out of league.
00:07:51Ha ha!
00:07:53I want my collection to be something
00:07:56that people wouldn't expect from me necessarily.
00:07:58I feel like a lot of people are going to expect
00:08:00something really kooky.
00:08:01I'm going to have goats on the runway,
00:08:03and while I love that, and while that might be great for me
00:08:0610 years from now, it's not going to be good for me for this.
00:08:09Let me walk you through my idea for my collection.
00:08:12Great.
00:08:13It's this whole idea of music and stereotypes
00:08:16and, like, hip young kids
00:08:18and how music relates to those stereotypes.
00:08:20You know, indie people listen to a particular kind of music
00:08:23and they dress a certain way.
00:08:25Earthy crunchy people listen to a certain type of music
00:08:27and they dress a certain way.
00:08:28So we have, like, day, night, skiing, clubbing,
00:08:31sochi and sochi-ing, groceries,
00:08:34cooking on the corner.
00:08:35This one's very, very red carpet evening.
00:08:37Very.
00:08:38So then the idea of the headphones popped up.
00:08:40It's this whole idea of kind of, like,
00:08:42just be who you want to be,
00:08:44plop on your headphones and ignore, you know,
00:08:47the people that are racing by you.
00:08:49You have your own style, you have your own thing, so...
00:08:51Just be yourself.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:53When you have these.
00:08:54You just close yourself off.
00:08:55But that, see how that adds kind of an instant...
00:08:58Yeah, it does.
00:08:59It will be what pulls them all together.
00:09:00I'm not leaving this house for the entire month of January, so...
00:09:04And you have the fabrics you need?
00:09:05I have everything.
00:09:06Everything, good.
00:09:07I just need to sit here and do it.
00:09:08Okay.
00:09:09Bye-bye.
00:09:10Thanks for stopping by.
00:09:12I met with Tim and I feel like I am behind,
00:09:13but I think it went pretty well.
00:09:15Bye.
00:09:16Get off my property, Tim!
00:09:18I mean, what's he going to say?
00:09:20I'm brilliant.
00:09:21I hope Tim has a good time at Wendy's house.
00:09:24I'm not.
00:09:26I wouldn't want to be trapped in Middleburg, Virginia,
00:09:28with Wendy Pepper.
00:09:33Today, we're in Middleburg, Virginia,
00:09:35checking up on Wendy Pepper.
00:09:40When I was told that Tim was going to come down
00:09:42and have a visit,
00:09:43I was kind of excited because I really like what I'm doing
00:09:45and I thought it would be neat for him to see.
00:09:49Hey!
00:09:50Wendy!
00:09:51How are you?
00:09:52How are you?
00:09:53Come in, come in.
00:09:54Great to see you.
00:09:55I'm thrilled to be here.
00:09:56Welcome.
00:09:57Thanks for letting me come.
00:09:58Oh, absolutely.
00:09:59Now you're on my turf.
00:10:00That's right, that's right.
00:10:01Well, show me around.
00:10:02Okay.
00:10:03This is my office in here.
00:10:04Terrific.
00:10:05Conveniently located.
00:10:07Inspiration board.
00:10:08I'm very inspired by certain different periods in art,
00:10:11and obviously my family is the most important thing to me,
00:10:14so I keep pictures of them there.
00:10:16I couldn't have done this without the support of my family,
00:10:18my husband, my daughter, my mother.
00:10:21Everybody has pitched in in their own way.
00:10:24So this is workroom number one.
00:10:27This is my cutting table,
00:10:28and here is my main workroom where I do my work
00:10:32and also where I have the viewing parties.
00:10:34I have a small business in my house.
00:10:37I work for individual clients who need beautiful clothes
00:10:42that personify this Washington, D.C. style.
00:10:46She's very talented.
00:10:47She is indeed.
00:10:48I'm very impressed with Wendy.
00:10:50I think it's been very gutsy to go this route on Project Runway.
00:10:55It looks to me like it's not all easy.
00:10:57Finn, can you come out and meet Tim?
00:10:59Hi, Finley.
00:11:00Hi.
00:11:01How are you?
00:11:02Good.
00:11:03Good.
00:11:04Very nice to meet you.
00:11:05Finley was just doing a little sewing.
00:11:07Finley's sewing?
00:11:08Yes.
00:11:09Look at the little machine.
00:11:10So she works on her little dress form
00:11:12when I'm working on my bigger dress form.
00:11:18Finley made this for the judges.
00:11:21How great.
00:11:22So she said, you know, I'm going to paint this for the judges.
00:11:24No, I just made it because remember I had nothing to do,
00:11:29and then he told me that I could paint.
00:11:33I did.
00:11:35So I'd like to show you a couple things I'm working on.
00:11:38I'd love to see.
00:11:39So we had the opportunity to take a look at some of my pieces today,
00:11:42and I would say they're all in various stages of construction.
00:11:46This is a skirt.
00:11:47This is another piece I did.
00:11:49This is the train.
00:11:50When I first came home, it was fall.
00:11:52The leaves were starting to change,
00:11:54and so basically I started identifying the color scheme.
00:11:58I liked the softness of this jacket, which she can remove.
00:12:01This is looking a little bed jacket-y to me.
00:12:03Okay.
00:12:04The skirt and the top are looking so modern.
00:12:08Yeah, it is.
00:12:09And really innovative.
00:12:10And this is just looking a little, I don't know,
00:12:14Rue McClanahan on the Golden Girls.
00:12:16Tim has just been an invaluable asset to me.
00:12:18He really reached in and found the weak points in what I was working on.
00:12:22I'm going to respond as best I can.
00:12:24I'd much rather have that discussion here
00:12:26than on the runway in New York.
00:12:28I just wanted to lob out a couple of thoughts,
00:12:30one being, be wary of over-designing.
00:12:32Be really objective as you can be about your marriage of the textiles,
00:12:36which I feel you have an innate gift for.
00:12:39Okay.
00:12:40It's like, just be you.
00:12:41Okay.
00:12:42I thought it would be nice to take a walk through Middleburg
00:12:45because it's really something that I cherish so much,
00:12:47being a part of this small town.
00:12:49Every time I go somewhere, if I go to the post office,
00:12:51I know the people, and they all watch the show.
00:12:54Ever since the show has started,
00:12:55I've become like this minor celebrity in my town.
00:12:58I'm so excited to see you.
00:13:00Yeah.
00:13:01Go, Wendy!
00:13:03I didn't pay him.
00:13:05I wanted to bring Tim to visit my great-grandmother's house.
00:13:09She gave it to the National Trust when she died.
00:13:12I do come here quite often, especially to the gardens.
00:13:15Wendy, this is too much. This is like Dynasty.
00:13:20Really wonderful. What a treat to come here.
00:13:22Wendy, this has been really special and really wonderful.
00:13:25Okay, well, I just want to tell you
00:13:26that I have so much food for thought
00:13:28after our little discussion today.
00:13:30Above and beyond just how nice it is to see you,
00:13:32it was just great to have you look through my stuff.
00:13:34It was a real pleasure.
00:13:35And I appreciate it because now I have to throw it all out.
00:13:38I am so grateful for Tim's comments today.
00:13:42I want to win. I'm a good competitor.
00:13:44Did he make me have second thoughts? Yeah.
00:13:47I'm going to change everything.
00:13:49Go remake the whole thing.
00:13:55So Tim is in L.A.
00:13:57I was really happy that Tim came to visit me
00:13:59because I really wanted to work with him
00:14:02and sort of, like, editing the line
00:14:05and showed him some of the fabrics that I had selected
00:14:08that I was going to be working on.
00:14:10Kailasan, how are you?
00:14:11Hi!
00:14:13I really wanted to take Tim to my favorite fabric store
00:14:16in Los Angeles, F&S Fabrics.
00:14:18I've been shopping here since I moved to L.A.
00:14:21I'm not originally from L.A.
00:14:22My father is in the Air Force,
00:14:24and so we traveled a lot.
00:14:26I have a very tight-knit family.
00:14:28My grandmother sewed, and I made her a pair of shorts
00:14:31when I was in kindergarten,
00:14:32and I sewed the legs up, and she couldn't get in them.
00:14:35When I got to junior high school,
00:14:37that's where I learned how to sew.
00:14:38I never had any formal training like fashion school.
00:14:41I pretty much self-taught from, you know,
00:14:43my home economics class.
00:14:45It flows. It flows like...
00:14:47It flows like metal, but it's back to,
00:14:49how do those 12 looks look on the runway?
00:14:51Yes. Yes.
00:14:53I was really anxious to hear what Tim Gunn had to say,
00:14:56so I took him to see my collection.
00:14:58I'm already inspired.
00:14:59I can't wait to hear about everything.
00:15:01The whole concept is, um, I call it flight.
00:15:04One day, I decided to just take a break
00:15:06and go to the movies, and I went to see The Aviator.
00:15:09My idea was to sort of take that, you know,
00:15:12glamorous, elegant look, but turn it,
00:15:14take it to the future.
00:15:15Okay, so it's not retro. It's not vintage.
00:15:17It's today. It's really now.
00:15:18It's today. It's now.
00:15:20A lot of what we did in the challenges,
00:15:22there were some restrictions on it.
00:15:24What I'm doing for the show is completely carousel.
00:15:27This is what I love to do as far as detailing,
00:15:29and just put it with a nice pair of pants.
00:15:31See, I did hand, uh...
00:15:34Stunning.
00:15:35Detailing.
00:15:36This is, um, a patent leather.
00:15:38All right.
00:15:39I have one concern.
00:15:42I'm worried about the fit
00:15:43and these darts in the breast.
00:15:44For me, for you,
00:15:45it just looks a little chunky, that's all.
00:15:47A little bit bigger corset, corset?
00:15:50Right.
00:15:51The proportion will work still.
00:15:54I have about four criteria
00:15:57when I think of every piece.
00:15:58One, does it look like something that I would do?
00:16:00Two, would Tim Gunn come in the room and say,
00:16:03Stunning!
00:16:04Would Heidi wear it out?
00:16:06Would Michael Kors say it's sexy?
00:16:08And would Nina Garcia put it in L?
00:16:10Like, literally, it's gonna be, um,
00:16:13around the clock from now until I reach New York.
00:16:17Time is definitely a factor,
00:16:19but I always do my best work under pressure.
00:16:22And any time I get tired,
00:16:23I'm like, you are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:16:37Good evening.
00:16:38Hi.
00:16:39Welcome, how are you?
00:16:40Here I am in New York.
00:16:41I'm part of the final three,
00:16:42and I'm at Olympus Fashion Week.
00:16:45When I came up to the W Hotel and I opened the door,
00:16:48the room is spectacular.
00:16:49This is, again, a huge transition from where I live
00:16:52in the country, you know, back to the Big Apple.
00:17:00What's up?
00:17:01What's up? My name is Chris, how are you?
00:17:03My pants are falling down.
00:17:04Oh, okay.
00:17:05Nice to meet you.
00:17:06Being here in New York for Olympus Fashion Week,
00:17:09it's very fresh and new to me,
00:17:11because, of course, I've never experienced
00:17:13it as an amateur fashion designer.
00:17:15See you bitches later.
00:17:17Good luck.
00:17:21Wow.
00:17:22Oh, wow.
00:17:23Oh, my God.
00:17:24It's a Wendy Pepper.
00:17:26Look at this place.
00:17:28Oh, my God.
00:17:29Oh.
00:17:30Let's have a look around, shall we?
00:17:32Oh, my God.
00:17:34This is fancy.
00:17:36Jay.
00:17:37Yeah.
00:17:38You want to come bunk with me?
00:17:39Am I going to bunk with you?
00:17:41Um, let me check.
00:17:43I don't think so, Wendy.
00:17:44I want her to realize that she was playing
00:17:47such a bizarre game on the show.
00:17:49You know what, Wendy?
00:17:50I've had a really hard time watching the show.
00:17:52Wendy, you've said so many mean things about me, dear.
00:17:54Here, I'm going to lay it out on the line.
00:17:56I was going to come in here and completely ignore you,
00:17:58and I can't do that.
00:17:59You're a human, you know?
00:18:00You're an interesting person, and it's just a shame
00:18:03that I had to see what happened come out on this TV show.
00:18:06I just, I want to see the real you.
00:18:08I want to see the real you.
00:18:09I feel like the last time was a bit contrived.
00:18:11I know you're a really interesting person.
00:18:13You were in the Peace Corps, which I didn't know about.
00:18:15I didn't hear about any of that, you know?
00:18:17All I heard was this weird stuff, and that sucks for me.
00:18:20That's a lot coming from you, dear.
00:18:22No, I'm not being condescending.
00:18:24I'm just saying that.
00:18:25Weird?
00:18:26Me?
00:18:27From you?
00:18:28I just don't know why you weren't fond of me.
00:18:30I was always fond of you.
00:18:32I wasn't fond of you because you were playing a game.
00:18:34I was on a game.
00:18:35I didn't approach it as a game.
00:18:38It's a competition.
00:18:39It's a contest, but it doesn't mean it's a mind game.
00:18:41It's not a game.
00:18:42It's not a game.
00:18:43You are a one, ruthless bitch.
00:18:46For me, it's all about who has the goods.
00:18:50I think you're talented.
00:18:51Now, unfortunately, I'm going to try and beat you this week.
00:18:54I feel like if you think this is a contest based on talent,
00:18:58then you shouldn't be here.
00:19:00Okay.
00:19:01Crazy.
00:19:02Crazy Wendy.
00:19:03Go with it, I guess.
00:19:04I don't know, you know?
00:19:07My goodness, lady.
00:19:09Why did you put me with her?
00:19:11Cara San?
00:19:13Cara?
00:19:15Cara, where are you?
00:19:19Thank you for coming.
00:19:21I think fashion week is going to be crazy and hectic and exciting.
00:19:26This is my opportunity to show the world what I can do.
00:19:30Cara San?
00:19:31Sure.
00:19:32Checking in.
00:19:33This is not.
00:19:34Oh, it's open.
00:19:35Jennifer!
00:19:43Hey.
00:19:44How are you?
00:19:45Good, how are you?
00:19:46Hi, Cara San.
00:19:47Hello.
00:19:48Look at this place.
00:19:49It is pretty exciting, isn't it?
00:19:53With Wendy, it's just like I have no desire to interact with her
00:19:56or speak to her or say hi, how are you doing, anything.
00:19:59Show me around, Jen.
00:20:00Show me, show me, show me.
00:20:02Is this just these two rooms?
00:20:03Just two bedrooms.
00:20:04Jen and Cara San, they don't really have much use for me.
00:20:06We didn't really end on a very good note.
00:20:09Where's my bed?
00:20:10I don't know, I guess in there.
00:20:12Okay.
00:20:13She was really unhappy to see me,
00:20:15but then it didn't even compare to how unhappy she was
00:20:18when she realized that we were supposed to be in the same room.
00:20:21I'm going to get the pillows from the bedroom.
00:20:27Good night, Cara San.
00:20:29Chamber.
00:20:30I'm so glad you're here.
00:20:34Wow.
00:20:35Wow.
00:20:36This is my first official Fashion Week collection.
00:20:40It's going to be a lot of work this week.
00:20:42I'm ready.
00:20:43I mean, all the glitches that I should have had,
00:20:45I should have worked out by now.
00:20:47All my seams are finished.
00:20:48My vision is exactly how I wanted it to be.
00:20:50I have a lot to do before the show.
00:20:52I need to be very focused and organized from now on.
00:20:55Hey, you guys.
00:20:56Hi, everybody.
00:20:57Hey, welcome back to New York.
00:20:58Very exciting.
00:20:59So we're at the Cotton offices, and this will be your working space.
00:21:02You all have a lot to do.
00:21:03In addition to getting oriented here,
00:21:05you're going to be meeting with the fashion show producers.
00:21:07You're going to have a casting call with models,
00:21:09and Heidi will be overseeing all of that.
00:21:11So you have a lot to do, a lot to think about,
00:21:14a lot to get ready for.
00:21:15You're part of Olympus Fashion Week.
00:21:17I'll see you all later.
00:21:19Bye.
00:21:22We had a meeting with John and Stacey.
00:21:24I'm Stacey. I'm the show producer.
00:21:26So let's go through the day.
00:21:27Bright and early, 6 a.m., we get to the tent.
00:21:30Your clothes arrive shortly thereafter.
00:21:32The girls are called for 6.
00:21:33Part of the time backstage should be spent
00:21:36walking each of your person, dressers,
00:21:38through what it is they're doing.
00:21:40It does take some time to dress 12 people.
00:21:42The guests will start arriving at 9, 9.30.
00:21:44500 people have to be seated.
00:21:46Start at 10.
00:21:47You have your 12 girls go two on the runway at a time.
00:21:50So that's how you should think about your music.
00:21:52And then there's the finale, which is all 12 followed by you.
00:21:55And you might want to consider things like
00:21:57lint rollers and double-stick tape
00:22:00and an iron and an ironing board.
00:22:01I'm starting to get butterflies.
00:22:03For the first time.
00:22:04Chills.
00:22:08Hey, John. Hey, guys.
00:22:09Hi.
00:22:10We're seeing a lot, a lot of girls today.
00:22:12We're going to bring them in one at a time.
00:22:14Hi.
00:22:15I'm Sarah.
00:22:16I'm Heidi.
00:22:17We saw about 75 girls.
00:22:19They presented their books and their cards,
00:22:21and we had them walk up and down the hall
00:22:23to see how they could walk.
00:22:28Hello.
00:22:29Hi.
00:22:30You look so funny.
00:22:34I'll take her.
00:22:35Finally, someone makes me laugh.
00:22:38I was judging girls on personality.
00:22:40I'd rather have a group of bizarre girls
00:22:42because that's my vision.
00:22:43Me, I'm going off of, can she walk?
00:22:45Is she a good hard walker?
00:22:47A lot of the girls are really too skinny for what I do.
00:22:50I had my list in front of me of the dresses
00:22:52that were going to be in my lineup,
00:22:54and I just did my best to match the girl to the dress.
00:22:58I predict we're going to have some fighting here.
00:23:00I'm going to kick your ass, Carison.
00:23:02Bye-bye.
00:23:04Then we have three special girls
00:23:05that you guys each get to choose one from.
00:23:07Who's that?
00:23:08Celebrity models.
00:23:09One is Maggie Reiser, who's available for this.
00:23:12She is very, very hot right now.
00:23:14Another is Ujwala.
00:23:15You'll surely recognize her in the picture.
00:23:17And Michelle Buswell.
00:23:19I saw Maggie's card, and I picked it up,
00:23:21and I said, this one's mine.
00:23:23I reached in and sucked it back out.
00:23:25You like her?
00:23:26Carison wanted all the girls with names,
00:23:28and that's kind of obnoxious to me.
00:23:30I'll give up Linda if I can have Cynthia.
00:23:32I'm still going to fight on Cynthia
00:23:33because you have Maggie Reiser.
00:23:34Are we fighting over Neri?
00:23:35No, I have Neri.
00:23:36You're getting all the good ones.
00:23:38Was I aggressive in model selection?
00:23:40I would say probably, yeah, but there's nothing wrong with that.
00:23:43I liked Gia.
00:23:44She is yours.
00:23:45How should I trade for Neri?
00:23:46Lee Yeager.
00:23:47I don't like her anyway.
00:23:48Cool.
00:23:49I'm done.
00:23:50Go!
00:23:52So after that experience,
00:23:53we went and saw Michael Kors at his studio.
00:23:55Here's the one thing I think that you have to remember.
00:23:57It's your opportunity to sell your clothes,
00:23:59sell you, sell the whole package,
00:24:01and in 12 looks, convince that audience
00:24:04of difficult people to fall in love with you.
00:24:07Michael Kors had a lot of good information for us.
00:24:10First off, each garment has to be fabulous,
00:24:13but it really is about the story you're telling.
00:24:15You've got to really look at it once you Polaroid those models
00:24:18and play with the order of how you show it.
00:24:21You're kind of taking them on a journey.
00:24:23So open with a wow from the outrageous outfit.
00:24:28You can have the quiet one then come after it
00:24:30because you're going to waste it
00:24:31if you throw the two outrageous ones together.
00:24:33I didn't know that you're supposed to open
00:24:35with, like, the super strong piece.
00:24:37So I've got to mix up my lineup a little bit.
00:24:39You have to keep an open mind that the right accessory
00:24:42could make or break the garment.
00:24:44Do you know anything about whether or not
00:24:45we're going to be using shoes from you?
00:24:47That's a very...
00:24:48Because I don't have shoes.
00:24:49I think that we're going to be able to do that.
00:24:51Okay.
00:24:52I'm excited to get to see a full presentation from all of you.
00:24:57Break a stiletto.
00:24:59I say break a stiletto.
00:25:00Thank you, Michael.
00:25:01Thank you so, so much.
00:25:02My pleasure.
00:25:03The one important thing for me in that meeting with Michael Kors
00:25:06was he talked about accessories,
00:25:07and I realized that I had not planned out my accessories.
00:25:11I can't believe that I'm not prepared for this.
00:25:15You know?
00:25:16I have to be perfectly honest.
00:25:17Having that meeting today with Michael Kors
00:25:19really shocked me into recognition of what's going on here.
00:25:23And what's going on is it's my ass out on the line on Friday.
00:25:31We've all been living together
00:25:32in what can only be best described as awkward circumstances
00:25:36because Karasun doesn't talk to me,
00:25:38and Jay sort of gets torn between the two of us.
00:25:41There's no time to play the game right now, I don't think.
00:25:45I'm trying to get these models organized.
00:25:48I'm playing the game.
00:25:49There's no time for game playing.
00:25:51That's so funny.
00:25:52The subject is like the big elephant in the room
00:25:54that nobody's been talking about.
00:25:55It makes me uncomfortable when you're not talking to her
00:25:57because I'm stuck in the middle of it
00:25:59because I'm talking to her.
00:26:00Yeah, but when you were talking to her, it was fake.
00:26:02It's not so much fake.
00:26:03I'm just trying to be cordial.
00:26:04It is a little bizarre that you live in a room
00:26:06and you don't speak to me.
00:26:07You know what? I know that, but I'm not fake.
00:26:09Do you know what I'm saying?
00:26:10I know, but you are bizarre.
00:26:12I'm not bizarre. How is that bizarre?
00:26:14If I think you're a backstabbing liar,
00:26:16then I'm not going to talk to you.
00:26:17So to me, it's not being fake, it's being real.
00:26:19You don't go out of your way not to talk to me.
00:26:21No, seriously.
00:26:22Okay, so who's the liar in this room now?
00:26:24You had a strategy.
00:26:25Yeah.
00:26:26I don't care about your strategy.
00:26:27I'm here for the competition.
00:26:29Hey, don't you think isolating me is a strategy?
00:26:32You isolated yourself.
00:26:34You decided to have your strategy.
00:26:36Jay doesn't isolate me.
00:26:37You decided to have your strategy.
00:26:39You know, I was very nice to you.
00:26:40I gave you a makeover.
00:26:41The whole time, you were trying to find people's weaknesses
00:26:44to turn against them.
00:26:45Tell me.
00:26:46You pretended to be people's friends,
00:26:47and you got up on stage and you stabbed them in the back.
00:26:48Who?
00:26:49Kevin.
00:26:50What did I say?
00:26:51Austin.
00:26:52I'll tell you what is so funny.
00:26:53You fucking hated Kevin, and you thought he'd fucking suck.
00:26:54You know what?
00:26:55I did, but Kevin knew it.
00:26:56You missed two things.
00:26:57Me and Kevin talked about this.
00:26:58Oh.
00:26:59You got here.
00:27:00However you got here, that's fine.
00:27:01How about talent?
00:27:02It's nothing to do with me.
00:27:03How about we're all here based on talent?
00:27:04You know what?
00:27:05That's what you choose to believe.
00:27:06You don't believe that?
00:27:07You don't believe that?
00:27:08Does the world believe it, Wendy?
00:27:10Honestly.
00:27:11Tell me the truth.
00:27:12Maybe if I kind of coerce them to fight with each other physically,
00:27:15I automatically win.
00:27:19Now that you've chosen the strategy for yourself,
00:27:21live it.
00:27:22Own it.
00:27:23Love it.
00:27:24You too.
00:27:25My strategy is to live on my talent.
00:27:26Wendy.
00:27:27Wendy.
00:27:28You don't have that option.
00:27:29One second.
00:27:30God.
00:27:31No one else.
00:27:32You.
00:27:33This is your strategy.
00:27:34No one else has a strategy.
00:27:35Jay, you know what?
00:27:36You have a strategy because you won't shut up.
00:27:37All right?
00:27:38Okay.
00:27:39I'm going to have him as your little whipping boy.
00:27:40Oh.
00:27:41Cheating.
00:27:42Cheating.
00:27:43You're losing.
00:27:44You're jealous.
00:27:45Get a reality check, Wendy.
00:27:46That everybody hates me.
00:27:47Everybody hates you.
00:27:48Why is it so important for me to let you know?
00:27:49Do you not think that's kind of a strategy right there
00:27:51to tell me that everybody hates me?
00:27:52But you know it.
00:27:53It's a fact.
00:27:54I don't have to tell anybody, Wendy.
00:27:55So you're not trying to weaken me by telling me everybody hates me.
00:27:57Wendy, I've met people like you, Wendy, my whole life.
00:28:00Oh, yeah?
00:28:01What are people like me like?
00:28:02People who pretend to be your friends,
00:28:03who stab you in the back, who will do anything.
00:28:04I live in freaking Hollywood.
00:28:05Do you understand that?
00:28:06You're going to need your soul one day, Wendy,
00:28:07and you don't have it.
00:28:14Today, just the fucking shit hit the fan,
00:28:17and it was fantastic to watch.
00:28:20You fucking hated Kevin, and you thought he fucking sucked.
00:28:22No, no, no.
00:28:23I did, but Kevin knew it.
00:28:24And you know what?
00:28:25You missed two face.
00:28:26Me and Kevin talked about this.
00:28:27It was just right in your face, Wendy.
00:28:28It was just like, wow.
00:28:31Two fucking cats, man, going at each other,
00:28:34And Karissa's not having the best day today,
00:28:36because with the Wendy situation, she's super tense.
00:28:39I don't understand why we can't do the wave in the front.
00:28:41Yeah, you can have the wave in the front.
00:28:43And then put the fake hair and somehow put the real long hair just up.
00:28:47I try my best.
00:28:48It's not I want to work with you.
00:28:50I know, I understand.
00:28:51Don't get upset.
00:28:52We try our best.
00:28:53How's that?
00:28:54I know, I know.
00:28:55I have a headache.
00:28:56This morning, Wendy Pepper and Jay just gave me a headache,
00:28:59and I really just wanted to come here and enjoy the experience.
00:29:03I'm not going to let Wendy Pepper ruin anything for me.
00:29:09Everyone, can I ask you to gather around?
00:29:11I have someone very special and very important for you to meet
00:29:15who is here to help you.
00:29:17Collier, can you come in?
00:29:18Collier is a makeup artist consultant for L'Oreal Paris,
00:29:22and he's here to help you.
00:29:24And I'm here today specifically to get a feeling of the collections,
00:29:28to feel the essence in what your story is that you're telling with them.
00:29:32Okay, so anything you need from me, I'm here for you.
00:29:34What I'm trying to do is to really help the designers hone in their vision
00:29:38so that there's continuity between all the models,
00:29:41and it's a look that really works with their collections.
00:29:44So my thing is called stereotype.
00:29:46What did you have in mind already?
00:29:48My makeup, I want to be very bleached out,
00:29:50more of an Alexander McQueen but not so white star.
00:29:53A lot of the designers have their own ideas already,
00:29:56and so that's interesting, and it's fun to work with.
00:29:59The concept of my collection, I'm calling it the thrill of the hunt.
00:30:03But I want them all to kind of convey a certain comfortableness
00:30:06with their own skin, if you will.
00:30:08Yeah, I think something as simple as a bold lip with a very neutral eye
00:30:13and a sculpted face would be very elegant and simple.
00:30:15I wish I knew jack about makeup, because whatever you just said,
00:30:18I'm like, whatever.
00:30:19Later, I'll show you.
00:30:20So basically, this is the Aviatrix,
00:30:23which is a cross between aviation and technology.
00:30:27What are you thinking?
00:30:28You can use a dark eye with not black.
00:30:30It could be a very smoky eye for each girl.
00:30:33And a color.
00:30:34You could bring in these bronze tones and all this earth tone.
00:30:37Smoky bronze, I love it.
00:30:38And actually, I can show you something on a model,
00:30:40so when we meet in a little while.
00:30:43Melissa, nice to meet you.
00:30:44Hey, Melissa.
00:30:45Hey, Julia.
00:30:46Hey, Jenny.
00:30:47Nice to meet you.
00:30:48We're going to start with something, a very simple eye,
00:30:50more of a very romantic, flushed cheek, and more of a bold mouth.
00:30:54Oh, wow.
00:30:56It could be really cool, like, this whole white feel,
00:30:58this whole white shimmery feel around the eye.
00:31:03So we're going to create the smoky eye by just using lighter shades than black.
00:31:10I am so grateful to you.
00:31:11Yeah, you're welcome.
00:31:12I just learned a lot.
00:31:13You look like a f***ing alien, man.
00:31:15It's fantastic.
00:31:16You look great.
00:31:17And she looks gorgeous.
00:31:18Yeah, good.
00:31:19Thank you so much.
00:31:20You're welcome.
00:31:21And I can meet you on Friday.
00:31:22Yeah, you will.
00:31:25Thank you, Dollhouse.
00:31:26I love you.
00:31:27I work with the designers of Dollhouse
00:31:29to make sure I have the proper shoes for my outfits.
00:31:32Can you imagine the amount of jealousy I have over this shoe delivery?
00:31:36I looked over at Carousan's gorgeous, amazing handmade shoes
00:31:39and about had a heart attack because I need to find some shoes now.
00:31:44I think that that's my biggest problem right now.
00:31:47We're at Cotton Incorporated doing our model fittings.
00:31:51How are you?
00:31:52How are you?
00:31:54He looks like Buddha.
00:31:56Buddha.
00:31:57Jay?
00:31:58Yeah?
00:31:59Everything I intimated about the pants, I take back.
00:32:01Yeah, the pants are cool, right?
00:32:03Yeah, they're really cool.
00:32:04Is your idea that she's going to undo the belt and let the coat hang?
00:32:09Every single piece he's tried on, I feel myself like,
00:32:12wow, I really want to go and see it.
00:32:14I have great respect for him because when I look at his pieces,
00:32:17they have power for me.
00:32:22And I don't even like his pieces.
00:32:24I think that that is really what makes a designer
00:32:27because he's got some kind of computer up there.
00:32:31Oh, my God.
00:32:33It's like Gucci, isn't it?
00:32:35It's pretty.
00:32:36It's Carousan, though.
00:32:37It's better than Gucci.
00:32:38I love it.
00:32:39Carousan's work, I see that she has used her usual materials of fur and leather.
00:32:43I'm not so sure it's an aesthetic that I respond to.
00:32:46What size are you?
00:32:47Like a two, four, right?
00:32:48Yeah, we're getting there.
00:32:49Let's put the boots on.
00:32:51I love you in that.
00:32:53I don't know if it's the socks.
00:32:55It probably is.
00:32:56Do you have, like, any shoes or?
00:32:57Let me just have you walk towards me.
00:33:05Wendy, I mean, her work is kind of clueless.
00:33:08It's kind of an older woman making what she thinks younger people want.
00:33:12I love it.
00:33:20Hi, everybody.
00:33:21I want you to know that the shoes for Michael Kors have arrived.
00:33:24Did you go through these?
00:33:25No.
00:33:26Are you getting shoes delivered, or are these your shoes?
00:33:28I mean, I have mine, but I'm just taking secondary pairs.
00:33:32So are you at all lenient about those shoes over there?
00:33:36Here.
00:33:37No, I mean, it's fine.
00:33:38I mean, it's one of us who's going to use them.
00:33:40Okay.
00:33:41Walk?
00:33:42Let me see.
00:33:43You can walk okay in it?
00:33:44Because I really don't want to shorten anything.
00:33:46The rhinestones are catching the dress.
00:33:48It's just you have to be very careful because this can run because it's metal.
00:33:52Okay, take the shoes off.
00:33:53Take the shoes off.
00:33:54Okay, I'm going to have to get you smaller shoes.
00:33:56Hello?
00:33:57Hi, James.
00:33:58Hey, Carol.
00:33:59How you doing?
00:34:00I'm doing great.
00:34:01How are you?
00:34:02The problem with the rhinestone shoes, the rhinestones are sticking to the silks and pulling.
00:34:13I know.
00:34:15I have a snorkel resin in my hand right now.
00:34:18I have that to speak.
00:34:19Okay.
00:34:20That I can bring to you.
00:34:21All right, I'll talk to you soon.
00:34:23Okay, now.
00:34:24Bye.
00:34:25Bye-bye.
00:34:28Human, human, human.
00:34:31Well, I'm a very prompt person.
00:34:33I do not like to wait and I don't like people who are late because my time is valuable.
00:34:38Jay and Karasun have kind of a different temperament than me in that way.
00:34:45And they're busy chit-chatting.
00:34:47I take a shower every day.
00:34:48I'm going to take a shower today.
00:34:52The one thing you know is that I'm going to be f***ing bawling our eyes out right now, so come on.
00:34:58I just, I can't even begin to tell you what I'm going to do today.
00:35:01I'm always ready on time, you know?
00:35:03I'm so stressed for time right now and you're always late.
00:35:08And I'm the one who gets f***ed.
00:35:14Probably the biggest thing in my professional life is going to happen tomorrow.
00:35:18I got to get going.
00:35:19I got stuff to do.
00:35:21I got some good $9 shoes.
00:35:23Did you really?
00:35:24Let me see.
00:35:25What do your $9 shoes look like?
00:35:27Do we have any other choice?
00:35:28For shoes?
00:35:29Yeah.
00:35:30You know what?
00:35:31I don't really have a lot of choices.
00:35:32What do you think about these?
00:35:34All right, try these.
00:35:35Oh, my goodness.
00:35:37You know me.
00:35:38I'm at your service.
00:35:40You always come through for me.
00:35:43My goodness, look at this collection.
00:35:44These are beautiful.
00:35:45It's perfect.
00:35:46Perfect.
00:35:47What to do?
00:35:48Rubber cement on the inside.
00:35:51You want to try it and see?
00:35:52Yeah.
00:35:53Do you have time?
00:35:54Yeah, I have time.
00:35:55Sure, take your f***ing, take your coat off.
00:35:56Oh, my God.
00:35:57Her friend James came in and was helping her out.
00:36:00I wish I could have had a friend come in and help me.
00:36:02This would definitely save the snagging.
00:36:05James, he just wanted to do whatever.
00:36:08I mean, it was just small stuff.
00:36:09It's not like he was helping me design.
00:36:11She's got this guy in today, like, doing her s*** for her.
00:36:14I don't have that.
00:36:15I do all my stuff myself.
00:36:24I just had this huge present waiting for me this afternoon
00:36:27because I knew that Finley was coming to the workroom.
00:36:30She is the most important thing for me.
00:36:32Hi.
00:36:33There is no question that when I looked up and I saw her in the door,
00:36:36I was just like, I have everything I need now.
00:36:38I have my clothes, I have my models, and now I have my Finley.
00:36:45Is there only three people left?
00:36:48Yes, there's three people left, and I am one of them.
00:36:50And do you know who the other two are?
00:36:52Yeah.
00:36:53Who?
00:36:57I tell you, I just am so blown away by you all.
00:37:01Oh, thank you.
00:37:02You are something.
00:37:04You're something.
00:37:05I'm just so impressed with all of you.
00:37:08That's so nice.
00:37:09I've heard a lot about you and your granddaughter.
00:37:12The last person I would want in here right now is my mother.
00:37:16I'd be like, Mother?
00:37:18Fin?
00:37:19Where are you?
00:37:20This is Kara's son.
00:37:21Hi.
00:37:23Nice to meet you.
00:37:25All right, so do you want to come over and let's do a little bit of work over here, yeah?
00:37:29Okay.
00:37:30I'm so glad to meet you.
00:37:31I am a great admirer of yours.
00:37:32Nice to meet you.
00:37:34So do I have to go all the way down and out to smoke?
00:37:38Oh, no, you can go right out here.
00:37:39Oh, yeah.
00:37:40All my friends in Washington, they're all totally hooked, and they're hooked on you.
00:37:45Oh, great.
00:37:49The minute I saw you smoking on the show, I thought, ah, my friend.
00:38:00Janet.
00:38:01I was just going to tell you, Wendy's daughter's here.
00:38:04I feel so bad.
00:38:05I just look at her, I see, like, a little Molly, and it's really...
00:38:09Because, like, I talk so much shit about Wendy, you know, but...
00:38:17It's true, but Wendy's not that bad.
00:38:19You know what?
00:38:20I'm glad I got to have this week with Wendy, because for as delusional as she is about
00:38:24her character on this show, it was good to see her with her family and with her daughter,
00:38:29and her daughter is adorable.
00:38:35Maggie.
00:38:41Do you have all your shoes in?
00:38:42I'm thinking I do, but I haven't actually checked.
00:38:48Hey, Julia, it's Jay.
00:38:49I'm just calling to remind you to bring your black shoes for tomorrow.
00:38:53Shoes.
00:38:54I have only one chance.
00:38:55If you don't like them or they don't fit...
00:39:00Hi, John.
00:39:01I have a bit of a change with Maggie.
00:39:04Someone in her family passed away last night.
00:39:06Oh, no.
00:39:07So she had to get out of town, so it's not a very happy story, but...
00:39:11It's like everybody has done fittings but me.
00:39:16Everybody, can I ask you to gather around Jay for a minute?
00:39:19I want to talk to you about tomorrow and how we're going to be presenting ourselves on
00:39:24the runway and the order.
00:39:26It's going to go Carousel, Wendy, Jay.
00:39:29Okay?
00:39:30Okay.
00:39:31Great.
00:39:33Carousel.
00:39:34Can I ask you a question?
00:39:35Out of your budget, how much did all the shoe stuff cost?
00:39:38No, no, no, no.
00:39:39I went to Dollhouse and I called James and I said, I really need shoes to match this.
00:39:45And so Dollhouse is doing this basically...
00:39:48Gratis?
00:39:49Yeah.
00:39:50When I first heard that Carous shoes were provided as a favor by a major manufacturer
00:39:53like Dollhouse, it occurred to me that this could be a problem.
00:39:57She had designed them, she had them manufactured, but she had not paid for them.
00:40:02They had the shoes made in China.
00:40:04Wow.
00:40:05You can tell they made the shoes because it's like perfect matches.
00:40:08I know.
00:40:12Jay, how are you doing?
00:40:13So you're doing this to your new fabric?
00:40:15Yeah, I added it already.
00:40:16Great.
00:40:17I'm working on getting this all shredded down to this kind of texture.
00:40:20Okay.
00:40:21These are too blocky.
00:40:22I wish I could help you.
00:40:23Well, maybe I could have invited a friend over to help me.
00:40:26Okay, I'm going to see you tomorrow.
00:40:28Okay.
00:40:29Get a little bit of rest if you can.
00:40:30All right?
00:40:31See you.
00:40:33Bye.
00:40:34Yes, carry on.
00:40:35Carry on.
00:40:42Hello?
00:40:43Hi, Carouson.
00:40:44How are you?
00:40:45I'm good.
00:40:46Hi, Tim.
00:40:47Everyone showed up and they look great in the outfit.
00:40:50Carouson, we have an issue.
00:40:52What is that?
00:40:53It has to do with your shoes, which were done gratis and as a favor.
00:40:59Okay.
00:41:00It's in breach of the contract that you signed.
00:41:02Okay.
00:41:03It's really illegal to have done that.
00:41:06Finally, something happens to Miss F*** Perfect.
00:41:09Ah, love it.
00:41:10Why is that?
00:41:11Because we were...
00:41:12I don't understand.
00:41:13Everybody...
00:41:14The contract says that you can't have anything done gratis or as a favor.
00:41:20That enhances the collection and that the shoes do.
00:41:23I do have an issue with her right now.
00:41:25As far as I know, the contract stated that we couldn't have favors from friends.
00:41:30And she's not paying for these shoes.
00:41:32They wanted you to be paying for that.
00:41:34But see, then again, we got shoes for free from Michael Kors.
00:41:38So what's the difference?
00:41:40Those are not the shoes I would have custom designed for my collection.
00:41:43But it's still free.
00:41:45You didn't pay for them.
00:41:46We all had access to the same shoes in that box.
00:41:48No, I'm saying.
00:41:49That's fine, but you still didn't pay for them, did you?
00:41:51No.
00:41:52Okay.
00:41:53So anyway, let me finish talking to Tim.
00:41:54So unless everybody who got free shoes, those shoes cannot be counted.
00:41:58Jay, do you have shoes from Michael Kors?
00:42:00Jay has a pair of shoes from Michael Kors as well.
00:42:03Wendy and Jay had to pay for the shoes out of their budget or use the Michael Kors shoes,
00:42:07which were provided to all of you equally, which is an even playing field.
00:42:10You got your shoes for free as a favor.
00:42:12Frankly, if you had to pay full price for those shoes, you would have gone over your $8,000 budget.
00:42:17You wouldn't have been able to afford your lawn.
00:42:19I'm going to get on the phone with Dollhouse tonight
00:42:22and take care of it before the shoes go on the runway tomorrow.
00:42:26Bye.
00:42:29So listen, just listen very carefully and don't respond.
00:42:33I need you to do something for me tonight.
00:42:35So I need an invoice for all 12 pair of shoes for every shoe that I'm using.
00:42:39I need it paid for and I need the receipt.
00:42:43At a good rate, of course, because I don't have much money left on my budget.
00:42:47That collection looked really expensive.
00:42:49So I'm thinking, how are you going to pay for those shoes?
00:42:51Some of the other designers went to a shoe store and got shoes for $5 a pair.
00:42:57So the shoes can be $10 a pair.
00:43:01That's fine.
00:43:02So Carousel said, well, then I'll pay for them.
00:43:04So charge me $5 a shoe.
00:43:06I felt that that skirted the line of fairness in the competition.
00:43:13Do you have a problem with the shoe situation?
00:43:16Honestly, a little bit.
00:43:18Why?
00:43:19I have a contract right here.
00:43:21I don't want it to come down to thinking that I'm unfair when I work really hard on my line.
00:43:27You can't fault me for being a professional.
00:43:29No, no, not at all.
00:43:30You can't fault me for having connections.
00:43:31Just because you have a relationship with someone doesn't justify the fact that you should get something for free.
00:43:36Anything that needed to be included in the collection was to come from that $8,000.
00:43:40We could get things knitted for us or specialty items, but you'd have to pay for them anyway.
00:43:44But look at your sweaters, man.
00:43:46No, no, no, it's not a comparison thing.
00:43:48I designed this crocheted thing and someone made it for me.
00:43:51But I paid for their work.
00:43:53Right.
00:43:54Not so keen on how she handled the entire situation.
00:43:57It could not have had bigger lights flashing over it that's going, favor, favor, favor.
00:44:03Are you going to check with me now?
00:44:05No.
00:44:06Well, then, you know, allow me to state for the record that I think she's pulling a fast one.
00:44:12Had to speak my mind a little bit because I feel very maligned by the cast for my own actions.
00:44:18And yet here's somebody who just holds themselves in such high regard.
00:44:21You know, they're so proper.
00:44:23I just really thought that showed poor character.
00:44:25Wendy, don't talk to me.
00:44:26Well, I will talk to you because I'm going to tell you that...
00:44:28Wendy, I am getting ready for a show.
00:44:30I don't care what you have to say.
00:44:31I don't want to hear it.
00:44:32Whenever you have to say, I don't want to hear.
00:44:35I'm not listening to you.
00:44:37...is hardly comparable to you custom designing your shoes and putting an arbitrary value of $5 on something that looks like your shoes.
00:44:46Just because you can't do it, Wendy.
00:44:48I did.
00:44:49I just heard you on the phone equate a shoe at a sample sale for $5 to a shoe you custom designed and had made to your specifications.
00:44:57You know what?
00:44:59And that, my dear, is not fair or above board.
00:45:05Miss Perfect.
00:45:07I just found her manner very entitled.
00:45:10It just shows how you're so f****** morally corrupt and you walk around saying how other people are just all f******.
00:45:18But you're perfect.
00:45:19But it's okay for you to fudge when it works to your advantage.
00:45:22But God help anybody if they fudge for their advantage.
00:45:26And that is what drives me crazy about you.
00:45:28You can try to make yourself look better all you want.
00:45:31I'm not falling for it today, okay?
00:45:32I'm getting ready for my show.
00:45:34I'm not going to argue with you.
00:45:36I'm not going to fight with you.
00:45:37I'm done with you.
00:45:39This is the big day that we've all been waiting for.
00:45:56Fashion week.
00:45:57Many, many, many years in the making.
00:46:00This is definitely the biggest turning point in my career as a fashion designer.
00:46:06Big day.
00:46:09If I win, that would be great because I would love to get it all out there.
00:46:12And as far as jump starting my fashion career, winning this thing is massive.
00:46:17I was nicknamed the long shot.
00:46:19I certainly feel like the long shot.
00:46:22But for me, that term has sort of tough fighting spirit.
00:46:29And I need that today.
00:46:30I need to feel that I'm a fighter.
00:46:33I have a lot to prove today.
00:46:50When I first walked in this morning, walked into this room, which is, I guess, the tent,
00:46:54and it was white and the chairs were set up and the runway, it was very emotional for me.
00:47:00I don't think it really sunk in until I actually got to the space.
00:47:04I got my blood pumping.
00:47:14When I got back at stage, it was intimidating for me.
00:47:18Okay, I came in here and I was like, it's like beer in the headlights.
00:47:21And I saw this guy and he just stood out to me.
00:47:23He just seemed to have all this presence.
00:47:25I just thought, I need to be like him.
00:47:28You're going to see this.
00:47:30I'm the long shot.
00:47:32And somehow our little chat ended up with me switching shirts with him.
00:47:39This has risen again.
00:47:41The receipt for the shoes?
00:47:42Yes, I have it in my purse.
00:47:44Dollhouse shoes.
00:47:45They charge me $15 per shoe.
00:47:47Carousel presented a magical receipt for these shoes.
00:47:50And I was a little dumbstruck.
00:47:53I thought $15 wouldn't cover the import tax on these shoes.
00:47:56Okay.
00:47:58My ex-model is not here.
00:48:00Have you seen Martinique?
00:48:01No, I haven't.
00:48:02She's kind of essential for me.
00:48:04Well, and Jay's missing seven girls.
00:48:06Get the hell out.
00:48:07Seven.
00:48:08I have them.
00:48:10Julia, why am I missing seven girls?
00:48:13Karen's not around.
00:48:15There she is.
00:48:19Now I have six.
00:48:20You have six, okay.
00:48:21It's getting better.
00:48:23But still, that's a lot.
00:48:24Yeah.
00:48:27Hi.
00:48:28Free help.
00:48:29Mom.
00:48:30Mom, hi, Lenora.
00:48:33Dad.
00:48:34Mom.
00:48:37You look beautiful.
00:48:38Oh, my goodness.
00:48:39It's such a good feeling to see my mom and dad supporting me.
00:48:42And they were so excited for me.
00:48:45And they're just like, you're just a winner in our eyes.
00:48:48And that was just what I needed to hear.
00:48:51All right.
00:48:53Okay.
00:48:55Hi.
00:48:56It's me.
00:48:57I'm really nervous.
00:48:58I have, like, two minutes.
00:48:59I have lots of stuff to do.
00:49:00It's fantastic to have my family see this,
00:49:02because, you know, they don't, they're not those kind of people.
00:49:05They don't see this stuff ever.
00:49:08I'll see you after the show.
00:49:09Okay, good luck.
00:49:10Okay, good luck.
00:49:11Bye.
00:49:12So, listen, what I want you to know is,
00:49:14we're really not trying to do a number on you.
00:49:16The producers are not going to accept $15 for those shoes.
00:49:19They're giving you three options.
00:49:22One is, no shoes.
00:49:24The other is, new shoes.
00:49:26The third is, use the shoes that we tell the judges.
00:49:30The shoes can't factor into their overall evaluation of you.
00:49:33I'm being penalized for having good taste?
00:49:36No, you're being penalized for because of the –
00:49:38And for having shoes that look designer.
00:49:40No, you're being –
00:49:41Because everybody else had to buy $9 shoes.
00:49:43No, but you're being penalized because of the terms and conditions of the contract.
00:49:45It says, no favors, you can't get things for free.
00:49:49For the producers, the price of $15 a pair is the same thing as zero.
00:49:53Okay.
00:49:54Then I'll do number three.
00:49:55Do number three.
00:49:56Okay.
00:49:57Okay.
00:49:58Great, okay.
00:49:59Thank you, Terry.
00:50:00Thanks, Carisson.
00:50:01There's only one option that I could really take,
00:50:02which was that the judges would not be able to judge the shoes
00:50:04and judge my collection.
00:50:10Hey, you're here.
00:50:12You're here.
00:50:13That takes it down to five that I need.
00:50:15Let's check on those headphones.
00:50:16Wow, this is f***ing crazy!
00:50:19All right.
00:50:23Are you guys –
00:50:25One broke.
00:50:26Two broke.
00:50:27Two broke.
00:50:28How do they break?
00:50:31They can't break.
00:50:32This is what I f***ing expected.
00:50:49Oh, you're here.
00:50:52I thought you were never going to show up.
00:51:12The mood is kind of really casual.
00:51:15None of this thing.
00:51:17Hate that.
00:51:18Really normal, just like you're walking the street.
00:51:21None of this.
00:51:23Gross.
00:51:24No, just really like, really German.
00:51:26Think really German.
00:51:28Like, ugh.
00:51:39Everyone break a leg.
00:51:46Hello.
00:51:49Hi, I want to welcome everyone to Project Runway.
00:51:52And this is our final runway show.
00:51:54This is our big finale.
00:51:56And our three designers have worked so very hard for this moment.
00:51:59I want to introduce our judges.
00:52:03Michael Kors.
00:52:08Nina Garcia.
00:52:13And Parker Posey.
00:52:21We have three really, really talented designers here.
00:52:24So enjoy the show.
00:52:25Thank you for coming.
00:52:32Hi.
00:52:37Hello.
00:52:40So, Fantasy Fly Girl.
00:52:43That's the name of my collection today.
00:52:45It's a cross between aviation and technology.
00:52:48I sort of took a mental page from Howard Hughes.
00:52:52You know, passion will make you crazy, but is there any other way to live?
00:52:56So this collection holds everything that I love.
00:52:59So I hope you enjoy the show.

00:59:16The most incredible part about today for me
00:59:19is having Finlay see my clothes on the runway.
00:59:22It's pretty special.
00:59:37I'm Jay.
00:59:40Hopefully, you know who I am.
00:59:43And I'm not really going to go into a spiel about my work.
00:59:46Why don't we just let it speak for itself?
00:59:49I'm Jay.
00:59:52Hopefully, you know who I am.
00:59:55And I'm not really going to go into a spiel about my work.
00:59:58Why don't we just let it speak for itself?
01:00:02I'm Jay.
01:00:04Thank you very much.
01:02:38It's a real pleasure to work here at the New York Art Gallery.
01:02:39To have my own show in The Tents is huge, it's massive, it's like the pinnacle of being
01:02:40a designer in New York.
01:02:41It's a huge opportunity.
01:02:42I'm privileged.
01:02:43I'm more than looking for inspiration.
01:02:44I have to say, Jay, you know, it was really, it was probably the, there were great pieces
01:03:07in all of them, but it was probably the only group that had a real clear point of view
01:03:11and a direction.
01:03:12The final show was so interesting. You really saw the personality of the designers. My favorite
01:03:18was actually Cara. I think she designed really much more for the modern woman and what they
01:03:23want to wear today.
01:03:24I love Parasan. I thought she was really good. How she, you know, I thought it was hip. There
01:03:31was a bit of the bling bling thing, and the cuts were really good. It was innovative.
01:03:36I'm rooting for Jay. I really liked his collection the most.
01:03:39I think Parasan was my favorite, and I think she's definitely going to win.
01:03:42I thought it was an excellent show. All of them were good, but Parasan was perfect. A
01:03:47pitch perfect show.
01:03:48Project Runway is just, it's been amazing. I feel great. It all worked out. It was the
01:03:54first time where it all made sense. Ever since October, it's been in pieces. Piles of fabric,
01:04:01things laying on the floor, things on hangers, and that was five minutes of just exactly
01:04:06what it needed to be.
01:04:10This is what the last six months has been about. This five minutes, 15 minutes of them
01:04:16going out on the runway, it's all these months. That's what it's about.
01:04:20It was so beautiful.
01:04:21Oh, thank you, Mom. Thank you. I'm so proud of you.
01:04:25You can be a mom and do anything you want in this world. I would say that basically
01:04:29next to my lovely daughter, this is, after 40 years, the most important milestone for
01:04:35me to cross. The fact that I showed in New York City during Fashion Week when I was sewing
01:04:40in my basement six months ago is an astonishing feat, and I'm really proud of myself.
01:04:57I thought it was an amazing show. I thought they did such a fantastic job. I loved it.
01:05:01Did you like it?
01:05:02I thought it was really great. You got to see their style.
01:05:04Yeah. For the first time, it was really just them, a whole collection like that. I loved it.
01:05:08Me too.
01:05:09So let's bring out our designers.
01:05:28Designers, we're back at Parsons Design School, and this is where it all began.
01:05:33This is going to be the hard part again, elimination time.
01:05:36One of you will be the winner of Project Runway. The winner gets a one-year contract with Designers
01:05:41Management Agency, a company that represents the business interests of fashion designers.
01:05:46You will also win a fashion spread in Elle magazine, a mentorship with Banana Republic
01:05:51design team, and $100,000 to start your own label.
01:05:55Before we bring out the models, I want to introduce yet again our judges.
01:05:59Michael Kouros, he's a design legend.
01:06:02Hey guys, congrats.
01:06:03Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
01:06:06Hi guys.
01:06:07And our third judge is one of the major stars of independent film, Parker Posey.
01:06:11She's seeing your designs today for the first time.
01:06:15Okay, let's bring out your models.
01:06:16Let's bring out the models.
01:06:27Models, one of you will also be a winner today.
01:06:30The model who is associated with a winning designer will get that fashion spread in Elle magazine.
01:06:39Okay, let's begin the questions.
01:06:40I want to ask you, Jay, tell me about the fabrics you chose, because I noticed there was a lot of knits in your collection.
01:06:45I mean, there's the aqua poncho.
01:06:47That was crocheted for me.
01:06:48I hand-beaded it.
01:06:50And the quilting.
01:06:51I did all the quilting.
01:06:54Horrible.
01:06:55Do you like that?
01:06:56I love quilting.
01:06:57I mean, I wanted that kind of tradition, nostalgia quilt look.
01:07:01That's a part of my history, you know.
01:07:03My sister's quilted, so.
01:07:04For me, it was very fashion-forward and very new.
01:07:07You end up dyeing a lot of these fabrics yourself?
01:07:09Not this.
01:07:10But some of them.
01:07:11I did a lot of dyeing.
01:07:12I mean, all the gloves and all that stuff was dyed.
01:07:15I think that it's a little matchy-matchy, DTM, a little dyed-to-match, we call it.
01:07:22And when she comes out, you get the quick emotional rush of, my God, she's fuchsia.
01:07:27She's pink.
01:07:28And I think that in some of these pieces, I lost the work.
01:07:32Sometimes I do think you get overly complicated.
01:07:36Like the, I think it was the mauve zipper, jacket.
01:07:40Uh, lavender, yeah.
01:07:41Lavender.
01:07:43But we notice everything.
01:07:47Wendy, maybe you can tell our judges what your inspiration was and what your idea was on your collection.
01:07:52You know, I live in the country, and so I just went outside from, like, morning to night.
01:07:57And, you know, it was fall.
01:07:58I saw the leaves falling, and I saw the grass changing color.
01:08:02And these things really made me want to make a collection, primarily for me, that was just full of texture.
01:08:10So, you're a mom.
01:08:11You live in the country.
01:08:13Was this about you as a woman?
01:08:17These clothes were demure, but a little bit suggestive where they needed to be.
01:08:21Well, you had one thing that was definitely not demure.
01:08:23You had an entirely see-through blouse.
01:08:27I just thought it was really, it was out of step for you, because I saw where you were going.
01:08:31It was autumnal.
01:08:32It was you.
01:08:33And then all of a sudden, I got boobies, and I was like, what's going on with the boobies?
01:08:37Even if you were 25 and a size 2, you wouldn't want to wear that.
01:08:41I don't know if it was personal.
01:08:43You know, I think you're a good tailor, and you know how to make clothes fit a body.
01:08:47I mean, listen, you tailored Charmousse.
01:08:49It's like trying to tailor a Kleenex.
01:08:51So, I know you can pull that off.
01:08:53Some of it, to me, was more successful from a professional point of view.
01:08:57But I think that you weren't able to concentrate on one category and make that category the best.
01:09:05Cara, I'm just curious.
01:09:07You mentioned Howard Hughes.
01:09:08So, the aviator, was that meaningful to you?
01:09:10Yeah, it was.
01:09:11Not so much the 30s, but the passion that he had for his art.
01:09:16He kept on saying rivets, you know, and just going over the fabric and going over my detail, my design, saying like, rivets, rivets.
01:09:22Like, it's how important it is for the cut and the design of it.
01:09:25Was this very personal for you?
01:09:27It really was.
01:09:28I always, like the sexiness of it, I always love to interpret that into anything I do.
01:09:33What was your biggest challenge?
01:09:34Getting the type of fit that I like.
01:09:36Like, the metallic leathers, I wanted them to look like silk.
01:09:40A lot of leather, a lot of fur.
01:09:42Yeah, and a lot of glamour and a lot of fur.
01:09:44Some of these dresses, I felt, could be worn to the Oscars.
01:09:47It's like, you know, they're really like thoughtful and provocative.
01:09:51And she's not glued into it.
01:09:53I mean, I've got to say that like you really, you understand someone's body.
01:10:00And that came across loud and clear in everything that walked out from you.
01:10:05On this dress, what's going on here, it's so, I mean, it's Gucci.
01:10:10I was thinking it and then all of a sudden that came out on the dress and I was like, oh my God.
01:10:16I really, in my line, did things that I've been doing for years.
01:10:19I was disappointed to feel so much Gucci in this.
01:10:22And it wasn't just those bits.
01:10:24I have to agree with Michael.
01:10:26I mean, down to the color, down to the fur.
01:10:28It's things that, honestly, I've been doing for years.
01:10:31And it's not things that, you know, I'm trying to take from other designers.
01:10:34You have one other thing that I was perplexed by.
01:10:36Out comes Letitia Burkauer, one of the best models in the business.
01:10:40She can walk in anything and you give her a dress that she can't move in.
01:10:46The minute she turned that corner, man, you lost the whole dress.
01:10:50Designers, models, thank you.
01:10:52You can leave the runway.
01:10:53I'm going to call you back soon.
01:10:56See you.
01:11:08I think I had a mixed-up collection. It's fresh.
01:11:11I mean, they're going to have their opinions, but I know I think it's cool.
01:11:15That's the point of having your own style.
01:11:18I tried my best. I love my clothes.
01:11:21Now, whether or not the judges even felt it had aesthetic value, I cannot control that.
01:11:25I can only do my best job.
01:11:29Something positive and negative was said about everybody.
01:11:33So, at this point, you don't know how they're judging.
01:11:36Are they judging on this one day? Are they judging on overall?
01:11:40The only thing I'm hoping is that they will consider the overall and the fact that I was consistent.
01:11:49So, this is the final one. What do you guys think?
01:11:51I'm very torn.
01:11:52I think it's between Jay and Cara for me.
01:11:57For me, it's a combination of I want to see something that's original, that tells me something about that designer.
01:12:03And then also, I want to leave curious about what can I expect from them, you know, coming up.
01:12:09How about Wendy's line? Did she go over expectations?
01:12:13Well, let's be honest.
01:12:14I mean, I think that she's got one thing that everyone in the fashion industry needs to have.
01:12:19She's tenacious. That's for sure.
01:12:21I think that, you know, she's too interested in listening to what we all have to say.
01:12:25And I think that, again, you've got to listen to your own heartbeat.
01:12:27And with one ear open, listen to what people have to say.
01:12:33You could really see, like, Jay and Cara's side.
01:12:36They thought about it.
01:12:37They thought about it. It was really like they were doing their best, trying to put all their most amazing things together.
01:12:41And it was coming from them.
01:12:43What I like about Jay, there's, like, some irony there. It's fun. It's colorful.
01:12:48And it doesn't take itself too seriously.
01:12:50I completely agree.
01:12:51It's so artistic, and it was so...
01:12:53Not from an outside source.
01:12:54Right. There's something in him that I think he has the depth to do more.
01:12:59It's almost kind of like, because he lives in this small town in Pennsylvania, he's just doing what he feels in his gut.
01:13:08What was your absolute favorite about Cara San?
01:13:10You know, her clothes are perfect.
01:13:12They're perfectly done.
01:13:13She's consistent.
01:13:14I liked a lot of the things that she has done.
01:13:16I did, too.
01:13:17I did, too. It was a beautiful show, and really, they were all tailored and made so well.
01:13:22Complicated.
01:13:23Well, she's also very professional.
01:13:24Very professional.
01:13:25Totally.
01:13:26She doesn't lose her cool.
01:13:27Articulate.
01:13:28It's all that one-on-one, like, I can just see her with the client.
01:13:31She's upbeat. She's got all that kind of stuff, which is great when you're dealing with a one-on-one customer, too.
01:13:37I do think she works incredibly well, and her clothes always look perfect, and that's where I'm having a very big problem in deciding between these two.
01:13:51So, we feel good with our decision?
01:13:53Yeah.
01:13:54We feel very strong?
01:13:55Because this is it.
01:13:56I know.
01:13:57Let's call back the designers.
01:14:07One of you is about to be named the winner of Project Runway.
01:14:22Wendy, you can be very proud of yourself.
01:14:28We all thought you did an amazing job.
01:14:30We all thought you did an amazing job.
01:14:32We feel that your line definitely has commercial appeal, but it lacks the level of consistency that the other two have.
01:14:39You're out.
01:14:43Auf Wiedersehen.
01:14:45You did a great job.
01:15:00But does that mean you're still in?
01:15:02Well, I'm still in with you, right?
01:15:04You know, it's devastating. I mean, you don't get to this level of a competition and think you're going to lose.
01:15:10But it was an honor to be there, and I'm going to keep trying.
01:15:14We certainly tried our hardest. No two people could have tried harder.
01:15:17No.
01:15:18I'm going home, and I'm going to open up my very first Wendy Pepper shop.
01:15:22I've always wanted to have my own shop, because people can come visit me and really experience what it is that I do.
01:15:30Because I do feel it's unique.
01:15:38Final two.
01:15:40Jay.
01:15:43Karason.
01:15:47One of you will be the winner of Project Runway.
01:15:50And one of you will be out.
01:15:55Jay.
01:15:57Your line was wonderful. It was artistic. It was out there. It was you.
01:16:06Karason.
01:16:08Your design was amazing, and your execution was flawless.
01:16:13It was beautiful.
01:16:21Jay.
01:16:26Congratulations. You are the winner of Project Runway.
01:16:30We felt that Jay has an original voice, and we really believe he's the next great American designer.
01:16:36What?
01:16:37That's nutty. Nutty, nutty.
01:16:40Karason, you did an amazing job. We love what you did, and you're going to go far.
01:16:47Congratulations.
01:16:52Thank you, Karason.
01:16:54Amazing.
01:16:55Thank you all.
01:16:56It was a very hard choice, guys.
01:17:06It's okay.
01:17:08I am disappointed. You know, I worked really hard for this, and I think that I have to just sort of go on faith
01:17:13and know that, you know, regardless of what happens here, it doesn't change my path in life.
01:17:19It's okay.
01:17:20I know. I know.
01:17:22It's just been a long road.
01:17:24I would have loved for my parents to see me win.
01:17:27But to have, you know, most of my family here to witness my first debut show, it was just amazing.
01:17:35It was amazing, and this is something that we'll all just always remember this time right now.
01:17:42This is really happening to me, really.
01:17:44You know what? Remember the moment. It's a great moment, season.
01:17:49You're the lost for words, for once.
01:17:53And Julia is a winner, too. She has a fashion spread in Elle magazine. Congratulations.
01:18:00Congrats, lady.
01:18:01Mom!
01:18:03When Heidi said that I won Project Runway, I could not formulate words.
01:18:08It totally surprised me, totally shocked me, and I still haven't really even processed it.
01:18:12You know, like, I'm the winner.
01:18:15I'm a winner!
01:18:19I'm so f***ing happy.
01:18:21This is not happening to me.
01:18:23It's happening. The show is great.
01:18:26What are you going to do now?
01:18:27Have a cigarette.
01:18:28This has really been great for me, because I've held on to a lot of insecurity for a long time in my life.
01:18:34And I've gained a huge amount of confidence from this.
01:18:40I've always had this vision, and now I get to share it with the world.
01:18:43Like, I feel like I can conquer the world now, and I'm gonna.
01:18:47F***ing damn it!
01:18:51Project J.
01:18:52That's all I'm saying.
