00:00:00The AFC East here's how they stand the Patriots with three wins in their last
00:00:04four games right back in at Miami with a tough one today they play at Seattle the
00:00:08Jets have won today and in the AFC West the Denver Broncos with two straight
00:00:14losses in the division for the first time in six years now at 500 trailing
00:00:18the Raiders and two other clubs at the Broncos last year their fans well
00:00:23remember were four and four at one point then won eight of their last nine and
00:00:27they were right on into the playoffs again as we look at Bill Belichick in
00:00:33his second season as the New England Patriots head coach talked to Bill who
00:00:36coached here for a year with the Broncos earlier in his career he will make a lot
00:00:41Steve out of the there's his counterpart Mike Shanahan about the elevation
00:00:45Belichick says hey it's cold in Buffalo and Green Bay it's hot Miami it's high
00:00:49here doesn't make any difference that's a psych job John it won't affect these
00:00:52players today Broncos kickoff as the Patriots Kevin Falk takes it at the
00:00:59three-yard line breaks it across the 18 and a hard jarring hit head high on
00:01:05Kevin Falk and he is taken down inside the 20 as Tom Brady in his second year
00:01:11for Michigan six round draft choice 2000 draft comes out his numbers the big one
00:01:17no interceptions he's been mistake free says his coach even in practice he's
00:01:21been mistake free and when a backup quarterback comes into play for a team
00:01:26they really rally around him and they really needed something at the point in
00:01:29which Brady came in and they have really snowballed on they are playing very
00:01:33inspired football Brady very confident comes in with a quarterback rating of
00:01:38almost 93 at least the Broncos survived the opening kickoff last week at San
00:01:43Diego the opening kickoff was run back against them for a touchdown they were
00:01:47out of the game early Antoine Smith tries to run and he gets a load of Bill
00:01:51Romanowski now Wilson we look at the offensive front for Tom Brady the New
00:01:56England Patriots offensive line coming together with the rookie light Compton
00:02:01Woody and Bruzy and Robinson Randall across the front Antoine Smith the
00:02:07prime runner Mark Edwards the fullback Troy Brown leading receiver in the AFC
00:02:11started today David Satch with four touchdowns a hand in all four last week
00:02:15and the tight end is Rod Rutledge open backfield now as the Patriots look to
00:02:21throw off a quick drop nearside throw and a big rush is put on as Brady is
00:02:26knocked down and as a penalty marker down we could have a roughing the
00:02:29passer maybe a hole came very late it might be a hole it's yeah it's going to
00:02:35be roughing a passer not something you want to start a game with done last week
00:02:41the Broncos gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown a penalty can put you in
00:02:45just a bit as big a hole personal file rubbing the passer 95 defense
00:02:53Kavika Pittman is called for the personal foul so Mike Shanahan sees an
00:02:58incomplete pass instead result in the first down for the Patriots well that's
00:03:02one thing you do is the young quarterback Tom Brady went right to the
00:03:05head and that's kind of a message Tom let's face it they want to get inside
00:03:09the young quarterbacks mind they want to make sure he knows it's not going to be
00:03:12a day in the park like it was in Indianapolis a week ago Brian Greasy and
00:03:17Brady with high regards for each other they competed for the starting job at
00:03:21Michigan greasy quarterbacking team that shared the national championship in 97
00:03:26Michigan and Nebraska pro national champs Brady a backup Brady went on to
00:03:31be big 10 MVP there is a hand up now as the ball is given to Antoine Smith and
00:03:39there's not a whole lot there is the Broncos who've been having some problems
00:03:42stopping the run shut it down early
00:03:45Washington McLaughlin price and Pittman across the defensive front
00:03:51Mobley Wilson and the veteran Bill Romanowski the linebacker those are
00:03:55three excellent linebackers they can run cover and they can punish on a tackle
00:04:00if it's a very concerned about Delta O'Neill who had four interceptions in
00:04:04one game this season
00:04:06Alex says you throw it to his side it could be coming back at you on a second
00:04:11down throw a good pitch over the middle goes to Troy Brown and Brown with his
00:04:1540th catch of the year is taken down by Delta O'Neill it brings up third down
00:04:20see Troy Brown a lot of people kind of raise their eyebrows last week when
00:04:26David Patton had a hand in four touchdowns but this is the guy Troy
00:04:30Brown is the guy that defenses worry about he's a good receiver a quality
00:04:33playmaker and the emergence of David Patton is only going to make his life
00:04:37easier
00:04:38Patton has certainly emerged last week with that phenomenal game
00:04:43two touchdown receptions ran for one through for one against the Colts here's
00:04:47Brady
00:04:48nearside throw nicely done to Mark Edwards in the fullback takes it in and
00:04:52Edwards on a third down and a long to play gets it out to the 49-yard line
00:04:56again on the play of about six yards in a first down
00:05:00this is what the Patriots would love to do on offense get the ball out of Brady's
00:05:05hands make some first downs and keep Brian Greasy in the Denver offense off
00:05:09the football field the best way to take a crowd out of the game on the road to
00:05:13just hang on to the football Patriots have a measure of confidence here as you
00:05:18know last year they won here at Denver ending an 11 game losing streak in the
00:05:25Mile High City here's a throw what a beautifully thrown ball and catch as
00:05:28again Troy Brown comes down with the ball and Brown now gets the ball inside
00:05:33the 45-yard line
00:05:35that was a good throw and a good catches Detroit Brown come across the middle
00:05:39you'll watch and you'll notice look where his shadow is and look where the
00:05:42ball comes right out of the Sun and he plucks it out of the air with a guy
00:05:46right on his back
00:05:47good coverage by Eric Brown that's a great throw and catch tough to defend
00:05:51Brown with after the San Diego game when the Patriots rallied from 10 points down
00:05:55to win 10 points down with five minutes to play he said that Brady wouldn't let
00:06:00any of us believe we could lose the game
00:06:03here's a hand up to Brown earning up field he finds a gap and Brown is in the
00:06:07open field moving on the Bronco defense as he is down now inside the 15-yard
00:06:14line going to look like he was caught and stopped
00:06:17Troy Brown finds a way and gets a head for a 31-yard gain
00:06:22well this play looked like it was ill-fated from the start he'll come in
00:06:25mushy kind of looks hesitant as he comes across gets the pass and right here the
00:06:29Denver Broncos gotta say we've got him three guys are right there and then he
00:06:32cuts back against the green and you see here that's the difference he's just
00:06:37very patient with the football in his hands not something you'll see with a wide
00:06:40receiver. Greg Robinson-Randall the right tackle with a huge block to spring
00:06:45Troy Brown so now the Patriots challenging on their opening possession
00:06:49Brady deep drop looks to screen the ball he does Dan Plonk-Schmidt is taken down
00:06:53from behind by the middle backer Al Wilson real strength of these good
00:06:58Bronco backers is great foot speed they can run anybody down but it was plus
00:07:03yardage as the ball is advanced down to about the nine-yard line you said it
00:07:07Don that was that was Al Wilson Al Wilson is a middle linebacker and
00:07:10usually those are the guys that come up to the line of scrimmage and tackle the
00:07:13running back between the tackles but these three guys Bill Romanowski Al
00:07:17Wilson and John Mobley they can run and they're very good veterans they know
00:07:21what's going on out there well he ran him down from behind but it was a four
00:07:25yard game Brady is now four for four throwing the ball for 22 yards in this
00:07:30opening drive another quick out this one comes to the near side and Curtis
00:07:35Jackson one of the fastest Patriots is knocked out of bounds at about the six
00:07:40yard line so that will bring up the third down and the Patriots will need
00:07:44two yards for the first down it's interesting that since Tom Brady has
00:07:49taken over Don you see all the receivers getting involved especially with the
00:07:53absence of Terry Glenn who's inactive today Tom Brady your backup quarterback
00:07:58doesn't have that history with the team he doesn't see it players evolve into
00:08:01his comfort zone so he comes in and tries everybody and right now they're
00:08:05all coming through for him he sees the field he spreads the ball around now the
00:08:09handoff and Antoine Smith is stopped no gain maybe a loss of two yards on the
00:08:15play on third down they don't get there so the field goal unit comes out Adam
00:08:21Venatieri having another good year for the Patriots he's in 10 of 11 field goals
00:08:26it's not much longer than an extra point drive you see right there that line of
00:08:30scrimmage is just controlled by the defensive line of the Broncos Chester
00:08:34McLaughlin just refused to be pushed and Antoine Smith had nowhere to run
00:08:39that football they just dominated the point of attack 25-yard field goal attempt
00:08:44by Venatieri it is on the way and on the road the Patriots take an early three
00:08:51nothing lead as their quarterback Tom Brady with a lot of timing patterns in
00:08:55five or five throws for 26 yards in the drive
00:08:57Leto and Brady talking it over Leto said I'm gonna do everything I can to help him

00:10:34really needs some help from the rest of the guys on his team they need to get a running game going
00:10:38and take some of the pressure off him to produce every single week as he said Steve everybody's
00:10:44trying to play the perfect game and you can't do that we've got to realize there's going to be
00:10:48mistakes we have to bounce back from not get tight about it you've got to get the game back to playing
00:10:52and having fun again as they hand up to Mike Anderson is for a short yardage there's the
00:10:59offensive front of the Broncos Teague Friedman four-time Pro Bowler from Boston College and
00:11:04Neyland Neal and Alexis Neyland the anchor of the line Anderson and Hape the focus runner and
00:11:13fullback Smith and Kennison the wideouts Harswell a tight end third down Greasy and the Broncos
00:11:20needing for your side throw nicely done and so was the tackle as the takedown is short of the
00:11:27first down marker Rob Smith catching his league-high 52nd pass but Ty Law was right on him
00:11:34so there's no first down of the Broncos have to punt the ball defensive front of the 3-4 set of
00:11:43the England Patriots Hamilton Mitchell and Pleasant the four linebackers Grable Cox Johnson and Pfeiffer
00:11:49Law Buckley at the corners Jones and Aloy the safeties now the punt Kevin Faulk is back deep
00:11:58all his hit downfield and Faulk running back in his 29 if he can feel the ball he can not so not
00:12:08a great day for Faulk the opening kickoff he was almost taken out of the game with a hit high hit

00:12:27scoring on their opening drive as they went 74 yards in 10 plays delving in the field goal
00:12:32by then a Terry Brady perfect throwing the ball five or five 26 yards he hit four different
00:12:38receivers standing in again another throw another catch Troy Brown putting moves on it Brown breaks
00:12:45it down the sideline and now a penalty markers fired in could be a face mask as the Broncos
00:12:50try to defend him we talked to the Broncos yesterday the guy they were most concerned
00:12:56about the name they pointed out more than any other was Troy Brown and he saw it on that play
00:13:01and as a desperation face mask trying to get their hands on him I think the fact that Tom Brady is
00:13:08six for six on the day you see there's the face mask not it's not that bad and there's another
00:13:26one but I know Tom Brady is just playing so mistake free and they're just dinking it down
00:13:31the field it's a huge confidence boost for this offense I think Brady is the key to it I mean the
00:13:36guy is cool in the pocket as you can find that's he was a 33-yard plus for the New England Patriots
00:13:4318 yards on the fast play 15 more on the penalty so the Patriots thriving again Brady swings the
00:13:51ball out beautifully makes the connection and darting ahead and inside the 30-yard line down
00:13:56to the 28-yard line is the Kevin Falk out of the backfield you know this offense is really blossomed
00:14:03and Brady's hit four different receivers actually maybe five now and there you see Drew Bledsoe is
00:14:08in uniform today for the first time since his injury in the Jet game so many weeks ago he was
00:14:15throwing before the game the emergency quarterback today the backup will be Damon Heward hits back
00:14:23Falk on second and short he breaks into the secondary he does get ahead for enough for a
00:14:28first down as Kipman makes the knockdown but the Patriots continue to move the ball down after down
00:14:35is this Brady's bronze well look how they've done with Tom Brady a quarterback a three-and-one record
00:14:40which is really the only number that matters but the scoring is up so much yeah and this is it
00:14:45too five touchdowns he hasn't thrown an interception coming into the day yet 134 tries coming into the
00:14:50day still hasn't thrown an interception and is perfect today what more can you say about the
00:14:54guy when you watch him he really is a lot like a tall Joe Montana he's the same look out there
00:15:01quick setting up and he sees the whole field every snap the market great ones beyond accuracy spotting
00:15:10the guys coming open another penalty prior to the snap false start 77
00:15:17well Coleman our referee and Bill Belichick sees Mike Compton call for the penalty is left

00:16:11which is as good a throw as you can make in any level of football perfect that was an absolute
00:16:17strike Brady finds patent behind the defense watches he trumps back the play-action pass and
00:16:24he looks out to his right then throws it right down the hash mark they tackle him right on the
00:16:29goal line and that is a touchdown this play was beautifully conceived they've been running very
00:16:33conservative offense through their first two series and then hit him for the big one when they
00:16:37got down close a 30-yard big one and now looking to extend the lead to ten to nothing is Adam
00:16:42Venatieri out there David Patton a wonderful story a guy who four years ago was loading sacks of
00:16:50coffee into trucks down in North Carolina 600 sacks a day he and his partner would load living a dream
00:16:59life now and he's in the end zone again and the Patriots underdogs down the road all of a sudden

00:19:01this week about Brady they said when he encountered there won't be a quarterback controversy but
00:19:05Brady will be involved in he'll be in a competitive situation and you can see by the way they behave

00:19:15come open he's got an open guy on the fly is Rod Smith and he's down the near sideline to the 35

00:19:38linebacker he said what about this Denver offense he says hey all you can say is Rod Smith's got
00:19:4351 balls coming into today that says it all he is the go-to guy for the Broncos beautiful play
00:19:50fake though by Brian Greasy really froze the defenders and then on a crossing pattern Rod
00:19:56Smith came free so now the Broncos mount their first challenge Mike Anderson the ex-Marines
00:20:04lands in town to the two-yard line some remarkable things today at Soldier Field in Chicago here's

00:21:42when the defense has a penalty the place the play should be blown there is not blown dead
00:21:47there's anything innocent gets into the end zone the Broncos think this should be a touchdown and
00:21:55and I think they've got a beat Don but there was a whistle that blew mistakenly watch
00:22:03you can the crowd doesn't like it but the simple fact of the matter is that play wouldn't have
00:22:18happened if the whistle wouldn't have blown now that the Patriots stopped playing you see there
00:22:24at the top of your screen the offsides and the papers just stopped and that's why the guy was
00:22:32that's why the touchdown happened and that's rightfully why they should mark this penalty
00:22:37off so Mike Shanahan with a setback early but the his team's still in good position with a first down
00:22:45positioned at the 24-yard line of New England this is the third week in a row the Broncos have found
00:22:52themselves down 10 to nothing so they've been in a hole that's been the problem with the streak
00:22:57they're on losing two straight and three of their last four Anderson Ted Johnson comes in and makes
00:23:05a hammer tackle Bill Belichick when we met with him yesterday signaling out Ted Johnson is one
00:23:10of the real bright spots of his team this year great play I asked Ted one time he called the
00:23:15defensive signals is it difficult what does it mean you to have that assignment he said it means
00:23:20I have a job at the ten other guys don't want yes that's about right it you know that Patriots
00:23:25defense they'll roll through about 15 or 17 guys regularly both on the front four or front three
00:23:32there either and through the linebacker Chris they got a lot of guys get a lot of time second
00:23:36and 14 Brian greasy and the Broncos here comes the rush greasy with a beautiful throw he gets
00:23:42his tight end coming with the ball is Desmond Clark and he is down and about let's see we're
00:23:48going to mark the ball he first and goal greasy with a great look it's great route by Clark a
00:23:56tight end down the football field and if you've got a tight end that can stretch a defense like
00:24:00this for a 20-yard gain out on the sidelines that's huge that is a huge matchup problem for
00:24:07a defense and Steve neither quarterbacks Mr. probably sees now four for four for 74 yards
00:24:13Grady eight for a 382 yards and a touchdown and now the Broncos answer is up the middle
00:24:20they go with their power back the ex-marine Mike Anderson takes it in
00:24:25and the Broncos have cut the Patriots lead to 10 to 6 with the extra point coming up
00:24:43Mike Anderson wants a marine always a marine he told us yesterday he was stationed in Somalia
00:24:58in his four years with the Corps now he thrives it in a power run into the end zone the extra
00:25:03point is hit up and good by Jason Elam and the Broncos are backed in the game down by three
00:25:14and four kicks off when we come back the Broncos answer on some excellent throws by greasy to get
00:25:24them in position and then Mike Anderson cameras it up straight ahead for the touchdown seven
00:25:28plays 80 yards took him a minute now Kevin Faulk is back to anticipate the kickoff of
00:25:35Elam a short spinning kick fault comes up on it number five 20 and fault drives it out close to
00:25:45the 24 yard line and there New England Patriots going offense again tonight on 60 minutes did

00:26:05talking to his prime minister Tarik Aziz who denied it a very very compelling story tonight
00:26:12on 60 minutes first down Patriots Brady eludes the rush makes the throw another connection ball
00:26:33on the field whether they catch in a fumble it looks to be and the Broncos will wait for
00:26:39the official signal I'm here it looked like the Broncos got the ball on the field if indeed it
00:26:45was a catch in a fumble it looked like Antoine Smith had it and dropped it and now it looked
00:26:49as though a Bronco had it for sure Patriots think they have it and so does the official
00:26:54which is really somehow a Patriot got the ball and they're gonna make it a complete a completion
00:27:02how the Broncos are waving it up like it was incomplete coming across is Rob Rutledge the
00:27:10big tight end well it's coming back they're rolling in an incomplete pass so it'll come
00:27:16back to the line of scrimmage which was the 24-yard line and it looked like Troy Brown
00:27:23actually reaching there and fought the book for the ball and got it out of the hands of
00:27:26Bronco defender and that's the first incompletion Tom Brady is thrown all day
00:27:33and that was a drop second and ten that's patent in motion Brady on a sprint out comes back near
00:27:44side on a draw the blockers are set and Kevin Faulk makes it ahead and crosses the 30-yard
00:27:49line gets to about the 31 that'll bring up third down and about four yards for the first down the
00:27:55tackle by quarterback and our Walker well as good as Tom Brady has been playing you can tell
00:28:00that the offensive play going by Charlie Weiss has been very conservative he's thrown one pass
00:28:05over 15 yards down the field and that was for the touchdown everything else has been very methodical
00:28:11very easy to complete they want to stay on the football field a lot of timing patterns at the
00:28:16end of the first quarter with a score in New England 10 Denver 7 will return to Invesco field
00:28:21at mile high right after this message back to Denver temperature in the 70s clear and sunny
00:28:37perfect weather as the Patriots now after opening up with a 10 nothing lead see the Broncos come
00:28:43back now 10-7 game Brady who's hit nine of 10 throws the young quarterback for the Patriots
00:28:49with third down and he needs for he might have got it free as the Cavica Pittman left early we'll
00:28:55see if he was drawn offside and Brady says it's going against the Broncos so a third and four

00:43:27you're in the NFL you know you get nicked up during the season Don there's no time to heal
00:43:31and you heal up for a couple of days but you're always forcing your body to push beyond the limits
00:43:37of what healing would allow so your injuries all stay just a little bit raw and you see their play
00:43:41faking by Greasy has been crucial in this game and it's still working here late in the second
00:43:46quarter and he's throwing well Brian Greasy has hit 8 of 10 for 106 yards Anderson hit and knocked
00:43:55back terrific play by Willie McGinnis now in his eighth year a guy who himself has faced a number
00:44:02of injury problems and he's in good health he makes this defense go yes you can't predict it
00:44:09Don you never know which of your great players if any are going to be injured you don't know if
00:44:13they're going to be injured and be able to come back you know that statistics say that you're
00:44:17going to lose one or two guys maybe or struggle with it but some teams just seem to overcome it
00:44:22better than others right now Greasy and the Broncos have to overcome a third down and 11 play
00:44:30they go to a quick screen and the Patriots diagnose it a terrific defensive play coming up
00:44:38to make the hit was Terrence Shaw number 22 as he was reading that all the way and now Jason

00:48:11somehow the ball is threaded in but it's incomplete why Brown had it was stripped of it
00:48:17by Delta O'Neill so the first time today the Patriots have to pop the ball yeah this is really
00:48:27the first time when they've gotten a hand on one of Brady's passes a little bit behind Brown but
00:48:31that's a throw he's got to make Delta O'Neill is a guy that you know is so dangerous they've got

00:50:37it look like you had it but once there's a pileup it's the strongest guy that gets it it doesn't

00:52:41watch there he's got it now the ball pops down into his feet and Brian Cox jumps on it Matt

00:52:59then intercepted then fumbled twice plus a penalty not a thing of beauty but it was exciting
00:53:09and all in all thing it started with a simple slant pattern and that and it couldn't have
00:53:17turned out worse for the Broncos after the play was dead now they got a personal foul on the guy
00:53:23they thought recovered the fumble very rare play don't see a personal foul called on the
00:53:35quarterback often well not I told you Don at the bottom of the pile everybody changes
00:53:44Rocky Mountain Thunder now the stands are shaking this is a beautiful news
00:53:50stadium there's the same atmosphere and the same absolutely breathtaking shake of the stadium when
00:53:58these fans start to stamp the head at mile-high well they built it that way they built it so that
00:54:03it would vibrate like the old mile-high did and sometimes the cameras shake because of it and
00:54:10they get they get this place going and it is every bit the stadium the mile-high was
00:54:14these unbelievable fan base here in Denver this is a team that has had sellouts for 31 straight
00:54:24years only the Redskins can match that and for so many years the Redskins played the very small
00:54:29stadium RFK and this is that's one of the things about being a Denver Bronco the expectations are
00:54:36high Brady and the Patriot offense having to contend with tremendous noise now Brady rolling
00:54:44out throws and makes a perfect throw down to Troy Brown somehow Brady threads the ball in over a
00:54:51backer and right to his receiver tackle quickly made by Mobley and O'Neal but it's a throw equal
00:54:58to that touchdown throw as far as perfection then you see here that the crowd is absolutely going
00:55:02crazy and they call a pass play and Brady has the presence of mind to put just enough touch on that
00:55:08to throw it to his go-to guy I haven't seen him make a bad play let alone a bad decision in four
00:55:14weeks so now with the two-minute warning giving there's time out on the field they got a good
00:55:23one going here in Denver 10-10 with the Patriots ready perhaps to take the lead again Don Prigge
00:55:28with Steve Tesker only one punt for each side so far today lots of offense and great quarterbacking
00:55:33well you can feel the atmosphere it's not quite home to these Denver Broncos yet they still know
00:55:38what it's like to be at home in mile-high but Invesco feel at mile-high hasn't quite gotten
00:55:43there yet but I'll tell you what the fans feel like it's home because they are into this game
