00:30In El Salvador, local and international human rights organizations report that the state
00:34of emergency has seriously violated children's human rights.
00:41Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:42I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:46We begin with the news.
00:47The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting with leaders of independent
01:03opposition seeking to ratify a consensual path for the preservation of peace in view
01:07of the upcoming presidential elections.
01:09During the reception at the Miraflores Palace, the head of state highlighted the approach
01:13with the opposition sector, which ratified its willingness to preserve peace, to work
01:17for the development of the country despite its adverse stances.
01:20In the meeting, Nicolás Maduro highlighted his pronouncement in favor of peace coexisting
01:25in the search for a consensual path.
01:27President of Parliament Jorge Rodríguez underlined the hope that these types of meetings will
01:32be repeated and sent the message that beyond the differences they can converge in common
01:36proposals for the defense of peace.
01:43The Colombian government informed on Tuesday morning that it had concluded the bilateral
01:47ceasefire with 24 structures of the so-called Central General Staff of the dissidents of
01:52the Extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, commanded by Iván Mordisco.
01:56Likewise, it was specified that the ceasefire would be maintained with 16 structures belonging
02:01to the Gentil Duarte and Jorge Suárez Briseño and with the Raúl Reyes Front, members of
02:07the Central General Staff, with which the executive has been in dialogue process since
02:11October.
02:12The announcement was made by the Minister of Defense Iván Velásquez, who stated that
02:16the order given to all the Colombian Armed Forces is to carry out offensive operations
02:20with all their capabilities against the blocs and fronts that deviated from the government's
02:24offer in search for peace.
02:34The President of the Republic decreed a bilateral and temporary ceasefire with respect for the
02:41civilian population between the General Staff of the Magdalena Medio, Commander Gentil Duarte
02:48and Commander Jorge Suárez Briseño Blocs, and the Raúl Reyes Front, for a period of
02:55three months.
02:57The order given to the military forces is to, with all their capabilities, carry out
03:04offensive operations against those organizations, those blocs and fronts.
03:11The former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo presented the documentation to formalize his
03:15political movement, Todo con el Pueblo, before the National Jury of Elections as a previous
03:19step to run again for the presidency, according to his lawyer, William Paco Castillo.
03:24The lawyer also clarified that this is not an immediate re-election, which is prohibited
03:28in Peru, in addition to the fact that the presidency is currently held by Dina Boluarte,
03:32but that former President Castillo can be a candidate as he was back in 2021.
03:37Furthermore, Pedro Castillo's lawyer dismissed the accusations against the former president,
03:41alleging that at no time he disbanded the governmental organizations, but rather that
03:45they remain operating.
03:51The International Monetary Fund forecasts for Argentina have worsened.
03:55It now expects economic activity to fall by 3.5 percent in 2024.
04:00The figure is much more pessimistic than the 2.8 percent drop initially forecast.
04:04Among the causes of this new debacle are the fall in consumption, both by the state and
04:09by private consumers, and a decrease in the purchasing power of salaried workers.
04:13The lack of demand causes private investment to also suffer a sharp drop.
04:19Argentina is currently the only country that will have a fall in its activity in 2024,
04:23while countries such as Brazil and Mexico will increase between 2.1 and 2.2 percent.
04:30And the social crisis that Argentina is experiencing during the Government of Higher Malay is worsening
04:37due to the increase in poverty and homelessness.
04:40Tele2's correspondent in Argentina, Juan Carlos Bartolotta, pointed out that the increase
04:45in poverty, which reached more than 50 percent of the population in May, and the lack of
04:49assistance policies on the part of the national government and the city of Buenos Aires, worsened
04:53the problem.
04:54Bartolotta commented that the census organized by NGOs and associations that help people on
04:59street situations carried out in December 2003 revealed that around 10,000 people are
05:05homeless.
05:06The journalist stated that Buenos Aires concentrates 85 percent of the homeless people in the whole
05:12country.

05:29Welcome back.
05:49In El Salvador, a report presented by several local and international human rights organizations
05:53highlighted the state of emergency declared by the President Nayib Bukele has seriously
05:57violated the human rights of children.
06:00In this sense, the report claims that 3,000 children and teenagers have been detained
06:03during the war against the gangs.
06:05In this way, it also emphasizes that minors have been totally victimized, on the one hand
06:10by the gangs who have abused them, and on the other hand by the security forces who
06:13have mistreated them.
06:15In this regard, the report states that 1,000 children and teenagers have been sentenced
06:20to prison terms of between 2 and 12 years.
06:23It should be noted that in many cases, the minors were forced to make false confessions.
06:34Several groups and organizations have criticized the installation of barbed wire fences in
06:38some of the trials through which migrants pass by the Colombian-Panama border bound
06:43for the United States.
06:44The measure has generated controversy both in the country and internationally.
06:49The Panamanian government began its administration with the aim of putting an end to the irregular
06:55migration that has caused a humanitarian crisis in the Darién, for which José Raúl Mulino
07:01announced measures before taking office.
07:04The patrols of the National Border Service have begun to set up blockades in most of
07:12these border paths, and so far one of these has been left open, notifying both the Colombian
07:19authorities and the people arriving at our border, which is the only place through which
07:25passage will be allowed.
07:28More than 520 migrants crossed the Darién in 2033, and an estimated 800,000 people are
07:35expected to end up crossing these tiers en route to the United States.
07:39The Panamanian government will repatriate those who enter without a passport, and also
07:44put up wire fences at some entry points, which has generated several criticisms.
07:49Putting a stop to this exodus is what puts us in discussion.
08:01How is it done?
08:03There is a position that is to repress, to close borders, in that case of the Darién
08:09plug, it is to plug the plug, which is quite difficult.
08:13The people who organize the exodus, maritime routes, etc., use it.
08:19I believe that this position is not effective.
08:25Although the Panamanian state has the right to manage its migratory policy, what this
08:30type of action does is dehumanize the migrant population, first, because the same thing
08:38happened in Texas last year, they put up a fence and streamers and everyone in the United
08:44States condemned it.
08:46It so happens that now Panama is doing it, and they are not criticizing it.
08:52This is a violation of human rights.
08:56Second thing, they are going to provoke an imprisonment or social entrapment in the area
09:01of Colombia and in the beach area, especially in Acandí.
09:08The Panamanian government agrees that the conditions of the migratory flow in Darién
09:13are often subhuman, and even President Molino has described the money it generates for those
09:17who profit from it as cursed money.
09:20However, he has opted for strategies against the immediate consequences of migration without
09:25addressing, at least not publicly, the structural causes.
09:31The issue of a trade embargo, or whatever you want to call it, embargo, blockade, whatever
09:37nomenclature you can give it, what is certain is that it is an absolute and total violation
09:44of international law.
09:46I have not seen any other country endure more than 50 years of these policies.
09:52It does not punish the governments.
09:54It punishes the peoples.
09:58The United States will bear the cost of repatriation following an agreement signed with Panamanian
10:03President José Raúl Molino on his first day in office.
10:08For Telesur, from Panama City, Rega Chandiramani.
10:13Haiti expects during the following weeks and months the arrival of more Kenyans that will
10:17join forces with policemen and soldiers from Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Chad
10:22and Jamaica for a total of 2,500 personnel.
10:25The Kenyan-led mission is meant to support Haiti's national police, which remains understaffed
10:30and underfunded, with only about 10,000 officers active at a time in a country of more than
10:3411 million people.
10:36According to the UN, the mission also aims to call criminal groups accused of killing
10:40more than 4,450 people last year and injuring more than 1,660 others.
10:47Despite these facts, Amnesty International warned about the arrival of the Kenyan troops,
10:51giving their track record of using excessive and unnecessary force against civilians.
11:02The President-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared on Tuesday that she would support
11:07with economic funds women who have been domestic workers and are in charge of caregiving tasks.
11:13During a meeting with women between 60 and 64 years old, many of them indigenous Mazahua
11:18and Mixtec, Sheinbaum assured them that her government will recognize the housework they
11:23do by giving them an economic support, a law initiative that is expected to be approved
11:28next September.
11:29In this sense, the elected president assured that the measure will bring more autonomy
11:32to women by allowing them to have their own resources.
11:35The action follows in the purposes of Sheinbaum's campaign, which promised the implementation
11:40of reforms and programs to promote substantive equality and eradicate violence against women.
11:49U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet on Wednesday with the Ministers of Foreign
11:54Affairs of 11 countries of the American continent.
11:57This is the Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity and
12:01the Americas, in which, in addition to the U.S., Barbados, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica,
12:05Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Uruguay will participate,
12:10according to the State Department in a press release.
12:13They will discuss ongoing collaboration to realize the atmosphere's potential to foster
12:18inclusive, sustainable and shared prosperity for all, the text reads.
12:22According to the State Department, the overall goal of the Partnership of the Americas is
12:26to make the Americas the most economically competitive region in the world.
12:35On Tuesday, it came out that the gunmen who attempted to assassinate former U.S. President
12:38Donald Trump last weekend fired from a rooftop that the U.S. Secret Service had declared
12:42outside its security perimeter.
12:45According to Kenneth Valentine, a former Secret Service Special Agent, the assailant was able
12:50to get to the rooftop of an unguarded building that was exposing a big hole in the event's
12:54security.
12:55The building was about 140 meters from the stage where Trump was speaking, and both local
13:00and state police claimed its supervision was not their responsibility.
13:04This lack of surveillance allowed the perpetrator, Thomas Matthew Crooks, to access the roof
13:08unimpeded and fire directly at Trump, raising his ear, killing one rally attendee and wounding
13:13two others.

14:13The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, said in a statement that it accepted China's
14:17invitation to meet with other Palestinian factions to discuss the post-war future of
14:21the Gaza Strip.
14:22A member of Hamas, political bureau and head of the National Relations Office, Osama Batran,
14:27said in a press release that the Anadolu Agency that Hamas and the Palestinian factions have
14:33received a kind, informed invitation from the People's Republic of China to hold an
14:37expanded factional.
14:39On Tuesday, China's foreign ministry stressed its readiness to provide a platform and create
14:44opportunities for Palestinian factions to reconcile and dialogue, but did not confirm
14:48the meeting.
14:49However, Hamas and the Fatah party already met in the Chinese capital last April.
14:58At least 10 Palestinian civilians were killed on Wednesday amid Israeli shelling and artillery
15:02attacks on several towns in the Gaza Strip territory.
15:05The attack occurred in the vicinity of the Sunna Mosque, south of the New Zealand Palestinian
15:09Refugee Camp.
15:10At least two civilians were killed and others were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a
15:14residential building which houses displaced people in the New Zealand area.
15:18In Gaza City, Israeli artillery targeted homes in the Tal Al-Awwa neighborhood southwest
15:23of the city, while warplanes targeted the Abu Iskandar area in the Sheikh Rabwan neighborhood
15:28north of Gaza.
15:34In a new and devastating wave of Israeli terrorist violence, the Zionist army carried out several
15:38airstrikes that wreaked havoc in the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of civilians and injuring
15:42many more.
15:43One of the most affected areas was the city of Hanounis, where 13 civilians were killed
15:47and many wounded after an airstrike targeted the Al-Attar area at the west of the city.
15:53Meanwhile, in Beit Lahya, northern Gaza, four civilians were killed and five others were
15:58wounded during Israeli shelling of a gathering of civilians at the Sheikh Zayed traffic circle.
16:03All health authorities confirmed that the death toll from the Israeli attacks exceeds
16:0738,700 and the number of wounded exceeds 89,100.
16:17Following Israel Defense Forces' drone strikes in southern Lebanon, at least five people
16:21were killed, including three minors, according to the authorities.
16:25Health officials confirmed the death of these two adults, while the army said that they
16:30are working to decipher the identities of these two deceased people.
16:34In the case of the minors, the national news agency said that they were hit by an Israeli
16:38drone in Umm al-Tut, a locality located in the district of Tire.
16:42In addition, the local press reported that the children were playing in front of their
16:46homes on a farm where their parents worked when they were attacked.
17:00More than 200 people have been killed as a result of consecutive attacks by Ukrainian
17:10forces in the Russian territory of Belkorod.
17:13According to the governor of that region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the number of wounded
17:16is estimated at 1,100 people.
17:19On the other hand, the city of Belkorod is the scene of frequent attacks not only by
17:22Ukrainian forces, but also by paramilitary groups opposed to the Kremlin government.
17:27This is demonstrated by artillery attacks on Tuesday on three localities in that Slavic
17:31border region, where, fortunately, no one was injured.
17:36Last May, the Russian army renewed its military offensive from the Kharkov province to prevent
17:40Ukraine from shelling border towns of the Slavic country.
